There is no charcoal chicken like this any more. You KNOW what happens to these places, you KNOW the hands these places end up in.

Fantastic, best chicken shop I've ever been to. Chicken is beautifully flavoured, hot chips are deliciously seasoned, the shop is always busy and food is always tasty. Generous servings, nice staff, doesn't compare to any other chicken shop in town!
Been coming here for years and still love this place. The best charcoal chicken I have ever had with a good range of salads, particularly the Greek salad.
Best Charcoal chicken by far!!, we had to buy it for lunch as the scent while walking past was irresistable. Also added the scallop potatoes and greek salad. I concur that the greek salad has too much dressing but all the positives outweigh this factor. For example, beautifully seasoned succulent chicken, great chicken salt tasting fresh chips and that scallop potatoes baked to perfection. The photo shows all the products which we ate at home as take away.
This place makes the most delicious charcoal chicken along with their stuffing it's a healthy yummy weeknight choice. The chips are always cooked fresh and the seasoning is amazing. The side salads are good too. This family shop are always so friendly and generous and have been that way for ages.
The chicken is so tasty because it's cooked over charcoal and they put heaps of herbs and seasoning on it. Chips are also tasty with all that chicken salt. Ummmm huh!
(But only loose half a star because they can close a bit early for my liking)
The tastiest and best value charcoal chicken and chips in the area and the family meal is the only way to go.
Be sure to ask for extra seasoned salt on your chips.
You will never be disappointed.

*Update November 2015 - I'm ruined for all other chicken now. Only from here or nowhere else. The scalloped potatoes are amazing.
*Update September 2015 - truly excellent chicken, even 2 days later when you're reheating the leftovers (the chickens are plump and huge). Chips are cooked to order and covered in a delicious seasoning. These guys really know their stuff. Got there just after 7pm on a Saturday night, and bought the third-last chicken (the customer behind us got the last two). They are popular for a reason.
Incredibly clean establishment and very friendly service. I've never quite understood why people buy cooked chickens from Coles when you can get a vastly superior chicken at a similar price from charcoal chicken places. This place is a little bit hard to find - it's in the carpark around the corner from Al Alamy. The chicken was excellent - cooked through yet juicy. The salads were really fresh and they also offer hot sides - chips of course, but also yummy potato bake, peas, and corn. Yummy!
I travel all over Melbourne for work and this one's the best chicken in town bar none. It's a old family business and the dedication to a great take away meal really shows....the birds are spiced with a special Greek influenced lemon/rosemary/oregano/sage? blend and if you are there in the shop when the owner sprinkles the magic it's an extra special moment. Chips are of a consistently high standard and we always go for the Greek Salad as that is also a reliable and perfect accompaniment. We live in Coburg and Tasty Rooster is always busy (on a Friday at peak time expect a line out the door) and has become a local landmark really.
This is first class world class chicken and chips. The best in Melbourne. You guys should consider coming to Carlton North area - you would be a huge success!!! Some empty shop fronts which you could occupy and we'd love to have you
Probably the best roast chicken, chips and salad. Chicken is tasty and cooked to a perfection (tender and juicy breast), Greek salad is fresh and with crunchy cucumber and fresh chips everytime.
Just missing tables and chairs to dine in, so that we can enjoy the food at their best condition.
Half a chicken, chips and salad plus two corn on the cobs for $15. Outstanding value and two very full happy adults! My only regret is not finding out about this place years ago!

Was given advice to check this store out the other day, couldn't be happier. Went in as a first time client on a super hot busy day and was welcomed by the front team nicely. Whole chicken cooked perfectly, excellent charcoal management with no burnt bits. As a client from Northcote, well worth the 20 minute drive.
