Review Papirica - Collingwood

we've been here about 5 times and were not even from Melbourne. very underrated place. good luck finding somewhere else that does a great vegan okonomiyaki. the seafood okonomiyaki is fantastic too and has that authentic taste. they use good quality ingredients and you will feel satisfied / full after.

An unassuming cafe that serves such amazing and generous food! Been here a few times and it's definitely the best kept secret everyone should know about. A little slice of Japan in Melb

Ordinary Japanese restaurant. Home cook Japanese style and Small little items are in display. Lovely staff member would assist you for ordering, etc. we couldn't find the place well and we nearly passed. it is a small, command homelike restaurant. Food wise, it is Japanese food, no surprise, flavourosh food. Yaki soba was a bit disappointed but Om and okO was good. The main dish was the cheese cake for us. it was the best part of the food trip!!!

My partner introduced this place to me so we decided to visit on a Saturday afternoon. Queued for about 15 minutes at the door but when we got a table, we love what we saw inside the place. They have some really cool Japanese crafty goods and merchs, very cool and very hip. I ordered a seafood okonomiyaki and it was the best I have ever in Melbourne. Very authentic Japanese and very tasty!!! Highly recommended!!! Will come back again!!!

Great katsu sando using their house made shokupan and seafood okonomiyaki. Coffee could be improved by using more robust coffee beans.

Visited this most peaceful and adorable Japanese cafe to have my last meal in Melbourne - the decor was cute and whimsical, and the omurice was lovely to behold and delicious to eat. The rice is mixed with edamame, tenkasu (dried soybeans deep-fried in sesame oil - made by the owner himself) and miso. The sauce is similar to - or may be the same as - the sauce for their okonomiyaki (their signature dish) - think a tangy ketchup/Worcestershire/soy. I would love if they'd do a curry omurice as well. I also got a daifuku mochi to go and it was sealed with this too-cute little sticker. It made it safely back to Sydney with me and was delicious also. IG: @shazlikesponies

Okonomiyaki is good. Like the Yuzu soda. Waiting time is quite long (about 30 mins for the food) but good service

ドミおいしい!Really delicious food, fantastic host was personable and outfit is great. Love that the tea was served in Kyushu pot. Highly recommend; keep your eyes on this place! The music was really good too! Would love to see some live acoustic shows here (maybe in the future?) Best okonomiyaki I've had in Melbourne ありがとございます!( ◠‿◠ )

okonomiyaki is absolutely delicious!!! staff are the nicest people you will ever meet, the cafe feels so cosy and feels like home. would go back without a doubt. thanks so much for the hospitality, and i love the decor

I enjoyed a very homely Okonomiyaki. The pancake itself was beautifully done. Homemade sauce was not as thick as ones I've had in the past which probably used a stickier processed type, which I quite like actually. The cafe is very cute. Definitely go back.

Beautiful, honest, authentic Japanese food in a simple cafe. These people love their work and deserve support. Vegan option of their specialty, savoury pancakes is fabulous.

Can't wait to go back!! This place is really really special. Terrific friendly service and the loveliest decor - my 6 year old loved his okonomiyaki too. Total win!

Best okonomiyaki ever; better than most places in Japan even, particularly for vegetarian, vegan and GF options. Homemade sauce and mayo!! Nice atmosphere & interior, and oh my god, the MATCHA TIRAMISU......
Kristen Elízabeþ
So beautiful! Vegan okonomiyaki is to die for.

Fantastic food and service. My only criticism is it is not closer to my home!!
Ren Jin
Super cute little cafe and oh my! Such delicious vegetarian okonomiyaki!!!

Great food, great atmosphere and really filling! I'll definitely be back soon.

The BEST okonomi-yaki & fantastic coffee in a warm and relaxed environment with great service. One of Melbournes true gems!

Best Home made sauce Okonomiyaki in Melbourne!

Insta: melbfoodie_mark
YT: MelbFoodieMark
-
Adorable little Japanese cafe known for its authentic Osaka-style Okonomiyaki. Loved mismatching furnitures and cute decorations - very homely and relaxing :) Grabbed Seafood Okonomi-Yaki ($16) & Shouga-Yaki Donburi ($13).
Okonomi-Yaki had generous amounts of fresh seafoods and vegetables. It was flavorful and savoury especially with its special home-made sauce. Unparalleled compared to any other okonomiyaki I had in Melbourne! Donburi was average (not worth it) Highly recommend a visit
Best Omurice I have ever had!

One of my favorite restaurant in melbourne. Test is real Japanese okonomiyaki. And I like omurice too. Also Shop decoration is very pretty.❣️Staff friendly 👌
You must try PAPIRIKA cafe😇

The food was authentic and carefully made (which constantly reminded us about the food we savoured in Japan) and drinks were really refreshing. We really liked the okonomiyaki. Matsu and Akira were super cute and friendly to their customers.

The ambience was quirky yet cozy; in accompaniment with the pleasant service made it feel like dining at a friend’s home as to a restaurant.

Most importantly the food was absolutely delicious, nothing crazy fancy like the trend of most Japanese brunch/lunch places nowadays, but you could really tell each dish was cooked with love and care.

I would highly recommend their okonomiyaki and the omurice (with their homemade special sauce)!
Sophia
Cutest little place with Japanese decor and quirky items for sale. Really polite lovely staff, very good Okonomiyaki. We did ask whether the yaki soba was vego and asked for no bonito but it came out with some. We just scraped them off all good! Highly recommend a visit- it is a small place so so allow a bit of time if you’re visiting.

The food is ok, probably will try their dessert next time. The vibe is so good!

3.5
I’ve walked past and seen people in the window and did some research and discovered it was a quaint little Japanese place specialising in okonomiyaki. I enjoyed the pork belly version that I ordered. It was a decent serving size for $16. Cutesy interior with lots of knick knacks around the place.

Papirica has a quaint interior with small Japanese goods for sale that match the simplicity to the menu.

We ordered the omu-rice and okonomiyaki, the latter of which is featured as the signature dish.
The okonomiyaki was great value for money with its crisp, saucy exterior and fluffy inside.

Bonus - Papirica also has many vegetarian options on their menu!

We were seated along the window, a perfect spot to be eating Japanese comfort food as the rain poured down.

Tastiness: 4/5
Value: 4/5
Satisfaction: 4/5

Pictured:
- Omu-Rice
- Vegetarian okonomiyaki
Gabrielle
I did not expect it to be a small restaurant, but the atmosphere is quite cozy. I really like the Japanese style decorations. I ordered omu-rice, okonomi-yaki and chestnut red beans soup. I like okonomi-yaki better then omu-rice as it gives more flavour. The red beans soup is a bit sweet so it’s not my type. But overall the experience is great.

3.5
Cosy Japanese cafe.

I really like the ambiance of the place, though it was bit chilly inside. We booked for three as it was a saturday and there weren't lots of seats. The staffs were really nice though they did warn us for 25-30 mins waiting times for the food which was bit unfortunate, though in the end it took less time.

Omurice was quite yummy, the omelette was definitely the fluffiest I've had in Melbourne, the rice was flavorful and I really liked the sauce that came with it, also the fried lotus root was a great addition.

Now the specialty, we had the pork okonomiyaki which was yummy, bit crispy on the outside with great texture. Sauce was yummy, though there was too much sauce that it became too flavorful.

Vegan okonomiyaki was pretty similar in taste, just tad bit different imo as it was a little bit denser and even more flavorful so i think it'll be hard to finish.

Overall a great cafe for some unique Japanese eats with a need of some improvement.

( follow for more!✨)

xx,joelle
Sunny Days Melbourne
This hipster joint with its eclectic interior has a range of food that is slightly different from the usual Japanese fare around town. The warm, friendly service is just the antidote for a cold winter's day.

We had the vegetarian okonomiyaki which was fresh and tasty. The sauce was a great accompaniment and accentuated the vegetables. The nasu dengaku was a delight for the tastebuds. Grilled eggplant, onion, miso dressing and salad in an airy roll just made my day! And finally, the sesame smoothie was thick and full of goodness including banana, soy milk and azuki beans. Even though it looked like sludge, it tasted amazing.

While I don't usually venture out to this part of town, Papirica will definitely now be a good reason to do so.

gorgeous, cosy fitout, feels like you've come over to a friend's house for dinner. beautiful and very chill, friendly staff. these guys know what they're doing and do it very well. the okonomiyaki is perfectly cooked and the housemade okono sauce made it have its own unique flavour rather than the typical bulldog sauce. being able to add mochi was amazing. the cherry soda must be mentioned - perfectly sweet with pulpy bits. lookout for the okonomiyaki doll on the counter or the tiny green alien in the pot plants. this place is its own little world, love it.

Only to find that on your return back home, you couldn’t find a restaurant that made a proper one?. Your search has ended. I have found the okonomiyaki promised land. Its name is Papirica. I love a good cafe jungle. Plus, it is super cute inside and the staff are mega friendly. Papirica is typically open during the day, but they also do dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, which is when we visited.

Absolutely PHENOMENAL!

FOOD: This is my first PROPER okonomiyaki but I’m pretty sure Papirica is gonna set a high standard for any future ones I might want to try but tbh I probably wouldn’t go to any other place than papirica anymore 😂 I ordered the seafood okonomiyaki with additional mochi rice cake and it was absolutely amazing! It was filled with seafood so you know you’re getting your money’s worth, the pancake is so fluffy and flavourful, the HOMEMADE sauce is amazing and the toppings of pickled peppers I think?, seaweed and bonito flakes were not skimped AT ALL! I personally LOVE mochi so I thought I’d want to try it with something savoury and my god... I’m never going back! Everything about this dish was so amazing and made me want to savour every single bite and when I got to the end, I was lowkey sad, but honestly, I’m probably gonna return hehe! It was absolutely worth $19 and is such a filling dish that is so flavourful and from the reviews, I think it’s pretty authentic so 5/5 for the food alone

SERVICE: I went when it wasn’t overly packed and I think it was a one-man show? But the server was incredibly pleasant and served with a huge smile and though, he was also very busy, he was still polite and super nice!

In my opinion, Papirica is a very unique cafe that specializes in a few dishes but you know, you’re getting the absolute best food with the absolute best quality! It’s so authentically japanese and super peaceful and adorable, it’s definitely a cafe that makes you want to take your own time and enjoy the moment! I’d definitely return for the life-changing okonomiyaki but hey, I think next time I’ll sneak in a cheeky dessert (I’m looking at you matcha tiramisu 👀)
Quince And Cheese
While I'm obsessed with okinomiyaki, I rarely eat it as there are few fish-free options locally. But Papirica offers an extensive range of variations to suit all dietary preferences. I tried their vegan version, smothered in sweet sauce and soy mayo and topped with a delicious pickled ginger. It's pretty reasonable at $13 for a bit serve, although I added mochi which bumped my price up a bit. I thought the mochi would be cooked in but they were served on top. Nevertheless, the crispy but still very chewy rice cakes made a delicious addition to an already wonderful combo of textures and flavours - definitely worth the $3. I didn't try my friend's curry but it looked just as good, and was also generous for the price. Lotus root, eggplant tempura and mixed grain rice bumped it up a few notches from your average curry rice. All in all, I was very impressed with this cute little cafe. One should note though that they don't do milk coffee - only batch brew - so if you're after a morning latte, get your fix elsewhere.

Absolutely delicious. Huge serving that left me full. Delicious variety, I had the pork belly with egg and cheese. The shop is really tiny and very cosy, reminds me of a little coffee shop I'd frequent in Shibuya. Absolutely love this place!

Best okonomiyaki ever! The sauce! Vegan taiyaki and vegan black sesame smoothie yummm! The nasu dengaku sandwich was delicious too. Great menu and cute interiors.
Inem
What a delicious okonomiyaki! I tried the pork belly one. It was quite filling and the sauce was definitely better than other okonomiyaki i had in various Japanese restaurants in Melbourne when the okonomiyaki would simply be drenched in mayonnaise. Papirica also does dessert really well. The green tea tiramisu and taiyaki were to die for. Portion is generous. Make sure you come with an empty stomach.

This place had cute decor, but the cleanliness was a little off. The cutlery and cups had to be wiped down before we were able to eat with them. There wasn't any air conditioning in the venue, which meant the atmosphere was a little stifling.
The food tasted home-cooked, which was a positive. The dishes we tried included the seafood okonomiyaki, which was quite bland and plain for my palate, even with the red pickled ginger on the side, as well as the buta-kimchi donburi, with an added egg. The pork in the donburi dish still retained its distinctive pork smell, which was slightly disappointing.
The overall experience was a little disappointing, as I had bookmarked this place for a long time and had high expectations for the food in particular.

This place is simply ADORABLE and they have some pretty unique japanese vegan dishes on their menu! I had their okonomiyaki and it was pretty tasty. I look forwards to going back and trying their curry at some point as well as they were unfortunately out of the vegan curry when I visited. The staff was friendly and service was quick too! Not to mention it's pretty affordable.

If you’re sick of dodgy or mediocre at best okonomiyaki, then you need to visit this place!! They bring you back to Japan in their dainty and petite cafe and cook you authentic and tasty okonomiyaki that reminds you why you feel in love with it...
Mel
What a gorgeous little cafe - perfect for a lazy brunch/lunch. We came to Papirica specifically seeking out okonomiyaki and weren’t disappointed. We tried both the seafood and pork okonomiyaki and they were great! Lots of flavor, yummy sauce and a good mix of textures with the vegetables with either squid & prawns or crispy pork. We were also tempted by the taiyaki on display - and were glad we ordered it as it was also delish, with a generous red bean filling and butter on the side. I probably would’ve given it a 3.5-4 (if that rating still existed) based on the food alone, but the cute ambience in the cafe, with its relaxed, quirky vibe and little trinkets on display makes it a definite ‘4⭐️’ rating for me. It’s a definite ‘will come again’!

Delicious seafood okonomiyaki and taiyaki! The prices are reasonable for great quality food. The people there are warm and friendly and the place feels very homey. All in all I had a great experience and can’t wait to be back.

This is the first time I’ve seen vegan Okonomiyaki on the menu. So excited to try it but a bit disappointed it was really dry and unflavorsome.
The serve was really big with lots of shallots inside and on top.
There was only one waiter in this tiny shop. The decor was uncharacteristic of a cafe that I walked passed it without realizing!!
The Japanese take "cute" to a whole new level so it's unsurprising that several people enter and become gaga at how cute this place is. We were lured here by recommendations of fantastic okonomiyaki. Greeted by smiling and friendly staff, we made our selections from the simple but plentiful menu.

Mouth-watering scents wafted into the room as our seafood and pork belly okonomiyakis arrived. These are the best okonomiyakis we've tasted in Melbourne! With wholesome vegetables, generous amounts of prawn and squid or slightly crispy pork belly, the Osaka-style pancakes were perfectly balanced with home-made special sauce and mayo. Every bite was packed with tantalizing flavours and comforting textures. Another friend thoroughly enjoyed her stir fried ginger pork and rice dish, commenting on the spicy but pleasant kick from the ginger.

The rustic space feels homely and inviting with two small rooms and a small courtyard at the back. The mismatched furniture and trinkets for sale add to the charm. Be sure to check out the fish-shaped cakes called Taiyaki. Today's filling was figs and custard - completely scrumptious.

Yum!
Probably the best Japanese pancakes in Australia
Light tangy and the pork belly so flavoursome
Make sure you try a brownie too!
Nice cosy atmosphere playing some great tunes

This little joint caught our eye while walking down Smith Street doing some errands. Luckily for us we haven’t had lunch yet so we decided to step inside. I’m glad we did.

Upon stepping into the restaurant, it is a very small restaurant with only three standalone tables and a bench against the front window. The place has a very homely ambience and very comforting.

On the menu there are two main sections for food; okonomi-yaki (roughly translated into Japanese pancakes, although not really pancakes) and donburi (rice topped things like curry or pork).

We had the seafood okonomi-yaki topped with homemade sauce and mayo. This place features Osaka-style of okonomi-yaki. It is filled with vegetables and the batter is very light and crunchy. It took me straight back to the time I visited Osaka. Typically the places in Australia serve an okonomi-yaki which is very thick and full of batter, more reminiscent of the western pancakes. This place stays true to the true Japanese cooking style. To quench the thirst, we had a yuzu-nade with mint. Yuzu is a citrus-type fruit which is commonly used in asian countries like Japan and Korea. Think of it as a Japanese lemonade! Very refreshing and pair well with the okonomi-yaki.

Definitely a place to visit for true Osaka-styled okonomi-yaki! Will definitely come back again for round two!!
Speccy
Cute & quiet cafe. Good service although food takes quite a while to come out. I had the seafood okinomiyaki & it was delicious. Possibly a bit too much sauce on top for my liking. Prices are pretty expensive too, but I suppose all ingredients are homemade

What a wonderful place to eat, like going back in time. The food was exceptional and certainly the best Okonomiyaki we've had in Melbourne.
Elegant, delightful and charming is how I would explain it.
Could sit here sipping tea all afternoon.
Little Picky Very Hungry
Always wanted to try out this Osaka Okonomiyaki specialist cafe 🇯🇵 I fell in love with this place from the moment I walked into the establishment. Such a cute venue, minimalistic, yet distinctly vintage Japanese feel🤖🌿
.
I ordered the SEAFOOD OKONOMIYAKI 🦐with Katsuo-bushi and Nori seaweed ($16); of course, extra cheese 🧀($2) and my friend had the Pork Belly ($16) with extra egg on top ($3) 🐷🍳
.
I have never been to Japan so have no idea what it’s supposed to taste like. I have no idea what the real okonomiyaki tastes like. But it looks promising and authentic💜 Their special homemade sauce and mayo were sweet and flavoursome, but perhaps a bit too much sauce on top.
.
The okonomiyaki itself was perfectly grilled, soft and not floury at all. It’s a bit too rich after few bites, that's where the sauce came in to balance out the greasiness. This is the second place in Melb that serves good okonomiyaki, the other one is Cafe Carpenter in Malvern East. Extremely filling, not a bad meal for lunch at all!🐱💕
.
We finish off the meal with NAGOYA OGURA TOAST 🍓🍞($9) which is sweet red beans on toast with butter & fresh strawberries. It is thickly-sliced, however not a fan of the bread, is way too hard to eat 😖 I think I prefer dorayaki then azuki toast after all🤔 Would love to try the Oshiruko or Matcha Tiramisu next time.
.
For drinks, I absolutely love love love my WHITE SESAME SMOOTHIE🌰🥛 it has soy, banana, chestnut and cinnamon in it. Very creamy and different. Their hot tea is a good paired with okonomiyaki too🍵💆🏻‍♂️
.
This is definitely a place for people craving for okonomiyaki, love the homestyle meal👨🏼‍🍳🍛Would come back soon xx

A new authentic Japanese restaurant in the heart of Collingwood. I'd recommend this place if you're looking for the best Okonomiyaki in town. Don't forget to try its Buta-kimchi don if you're looking for something lighter and yet still brings joy to a hungry tummy :)

Papirica does what it does (yummy osaka style okonomiyaki) very well. The pork belly is delicious and I can't really bring myself to make a divergence from this choice the many times we have been here.
Kayz
Had a simple quick seafood and and pork belly okonomoyaki for dinner here. Matcha tiramisu was actually quite good too. Fairly satisfying but simple meal. Menu is a little limited but quaint little shop. Worth trying if in the area.

I highly recommend you to go there and have their lovely meal. When I had it for the first time,I was surprised. The taste was really fluffy and mild, of course fantastic! It also remained me of my mom's one in Japan . To be honest, my mom is great cook but Papirica’s one is better than mom's. It means actual homemade Okonomi-yaki. Nothing more delicious. If you have it at the cafe, you'll definitely know what actual Okonomi-yaki is in Japan. Even if you had been to Japan and had Okonomi-yaki before. Hope you’ll like it.

A Smith St gem just south of Gertrude St this part of the strip is quieter than north of Gertrude but is well worth the trip.
Okonomiyaki is my favourite dish there and they have a vegan option. It is a traditional Japanese dish often made with leftovers or fresh vegetables. The first ones I ate had cabbage and carrot, hijiki in a omelette like base.
Since becoming vegan I have cooked. It myself using a flax seed vegan egg replacement to bind the ingredients.
If you haven’t tried this delicious dish Papirica is the place to get it. Vegan or not.
The restaurant has a shopfront feel on the front room and a bigger room behind for larger groups.
I will add photos and menus soon.
Celia
It's not a place that particularly stands out when you stand outside but it's relaxing inside with comfy seats and decorations thst give a vintage feel. The staff were really nice, when my seafood okonomiyaki arrived, the owner (i assumed) apologized for the time taken for the food to be prepared because seafood okonomiyaki takes a while to make. I didnt think it took that long and it was fresh and crisp. The okonomiyaki sauce was also flavoursome. It had prawns and calamari inside, the calamari was tender. Overall, a pleasing small cafe with okonomiyaki made by japanese people.

I love okonomiyaki, I love Osaka okonomiyaki and papirica has that Osaka okonomiyaki that I love. Will come back again and again for my okonomiyaki fix....
Minda Barley
A Broadsheet write up directed us to Papirica and we found ourselves there on Saturday just before midday. . It was pretty quiet with only a handful of dining couples in there. The front room is sparsely furnished with a Japanese vintage air to it. There are various knick knacks mainly congregating at the front desk whilst the rest of the room is emptier.
Rebekah Jade Culhane
Finally tried this place after walking past it everyday for the last few months. A cute, small little cafe with minimal decor and a few vintage items.
I visited with 3 work collegues one of whom is a vegan. This place works perfectly as they have 3 okonomiyaki options, pork, vegetarian or vegan making it suitable for everyone.
They also have a few extra food options that are all quite traditional.
However, we opted for the okonomiyaki (what the place is known for).
A friend and I shared the vegetarian and the pork okonomiyaki. Both were very nice but I preferred the pork one as the vegetarian one was a bit thicker but also a little burnt.
Although very tasty, they are on the pricier side compared to some of the lunch deals around the area.
It is a good option though and the sauces are not the typical store bought sauces as they make them themselves.
Flying Forward
Having been featured on Broadsheet, I've been looking forward to finding good okonomiyaki in Melbourne. The precooked pancakes you find sitting under a hot light in a food court make me want to vomit.

Food - Being a vegan recipe, I'm sure Yutaka-san's recipe substitutes eggs for okra, as you get that hint of bitterness and stickiness, which helps bind the batter together. This makes for a pretty loose pancake though, as it's not as "tight" as more traditional recipes.

His homemade okonomiyaki sauce has a nice balance of sweet and savoury, however there was a little too much poured on, making it difficult to distinguish between the pancake and the sauce.

Not being a vegan, I ordered the pork version, which seems to be a few thin slices of fried pork loin under the blanket of sauce. I expected thin slices of pork belly rashers, which seem a bit more traditional, but hey, like ramen, okonomiyaki is a bit of a cowboy food.

What would be handy is if they provided one of those small spatulas to make sharing easier.

Not much to fault about the shyougayaki pork sandwhich, toasted fresh, it's reminiscent of a club sandwhich.

Venue - Being situated in Fitzroy/Collingwood, and catering to vegans, you would expect a bit of hipster quirkiness. Vintage items are scattered throughout and somehow everything just feels right.

I was so excited to come try the okonomiyaki. I'm not claiming to have eaten okonomiyaki extensively in Japan, but I've also had it a decent number of times during four trips. While an inexpensive dish, there is a lot to get right in a good okonomiyaki and I've never had a halfway decent one in Australia. However there were definitely things that still disappointed me here. The pork were large strips that were fried until black and tasted absolutely like cardboard. I literally couldn't break it apart. This was the same for both of our plates. There was wayyy too much sauce, which is not terrible... But I think it was partially trying to hide that the okomiyaki itself was very thin and sparse in its fillings. Honestly I felt like I was being made full off sauce and mayonnaise. Based on the horrible pork and the sea of sauce I can't actually make a comment on the other ingredients, okonomiyaki batter, and the way it was grilled.
PlasterPillow
Amazing! Their okonomiyaki tastes exactly like the ones i've had in Japan. Definitely recommend this cute little restaurant to anyone who loves Japanese food..or if you don't you will after this. Very friendly staff and great customer service. Will be visiting here again soon.

Best Okonomiyaki in Melbourne!
Can't believe it's also vegetarian! Their original recipe fooled me and I thought its with meat but not. Quite full filled. Taste so good but not too heavy.
JAPAN QUALITY OKONOMIYAKI// we came for lunch on Sunday & it was the tastiest Okonomiyake we've had in Australia. We spend lots of time in Japan, and I'm rather discerning with it & can whole heartedly vouch for it being awesome!
The house made Kim Chi (makes my mouth water as I type about it) is a must!
The okonomiyake isn't doughy or floury, it's really authentic.
We each had the pork, kim chi & cheese variety for brunch and we didn't need to eat until dinner! Well balanced, super tasty, healthier option= try it!
The fit out isn't so much a 'fit out' as it's more pared back home style. However it's cute & the nic naks are sweet.
We were in the back room, so I can't comment on acoustics.
Will return fo sho. Kim chi me up buttercup!

Best okonomiyaki in Melbourne, with great vegan and vegetarian options. A beautiful atmosphere inside as well as in the courtyard. Very friendly staff. 😊

Authentic homestyle Japanese food served in a cozy Japanese homestyle setting. A delicious little oasis made simply with love and care.
Good portions too, very satisfying!

This is a food home away from home. the cafe holds the most incredible pancake you could ever want to find outside of japan and is served up in a quaint cafe on smith st with old school tables and beautiful additions to your meal. it's simple, honest and real - and absolutely delicious!
