Review Dumpling De' Chef - Cranbourne

We ordered a soup, dumplings and a chilli beef on rice. The soup was the worst I have ever had, it tasted like packet beef stock watered down to nothing, those cup of noodle soups you can buy from a Asian grocery are 100% times better. The chilli beef half the plate was covered in oil and the veg they used were a poor choice but it was still eatable. The Dumplings were nothing special but you could argue they are the best in cranbourne but that's nothing to be proud about as there is little to no competition. My wife is Chinese so we eat at alot of Chinese restaurants and this place doesn't deserve the high rating it has, but I must admit when this place first opened many years ago it was pretty good. Also owner was asleep in side the restaurant as people were dinning.

I ordered the steamed rice, salt and pepper chicken rips and pineapple fritters. I didn't receive the pineapple fritters or ice cream that goes with it, the steamed rice was so hard and dry it's like it hasn't been cooked and the chicken was pooling oil. I have ordered this several times and it's usually amazing but not tonight. I rang the restaurant to be told they would give me a store credit for the 2 small scoops of ice-cream only! The food was inedible but yes let's only focus on the ice-cream 🤦‍♀️ The lady who answered the phone was stuck in the middle for which I am sorry. Especially while the owner was being rude and dismissive I would have given zero stars if I had the option...

The dumplings were really good and had cheap prices, too (I got 12 dumplings for $13, I haven’t seen prices like that in a long time). The lady at the front desk was incredibly nice to us, and the service was good, especially taking into consideration that there was only one chef available.

The dumplings from this dumpling chef are really delicious! I have been to this shop many times. I love their specialty steamed pork dumplings and pan fried pork dumplings...every time I order frozen dumplings to take home. That’s my favourites shop ! !

I am a Chinese who loves and knows dumplings. I like the dumpling and the seating at DUMPLING de CHEF. If only regional areas have more Chinese restaurants as good as this one, then people in regional area would understand, accept and enjoy Chinese culture much more quickly. I don't blame locals in regional areas hold some kinda bias towards China and Chinese since I tried Chinese restaurants in the areas of west gippslands.

Ordered in store and waited 45 mins for my food. Not a good start!!! Got the food home to find the honey chicken I order had NO honey and the chicken was dry as sticks. Chicken and sweet corn soup OMFG!!! It was lumpy and tasted absolutely disgusting. Dumpling were ok. Sweet and sour chicken with rice was ok considering the little amount of sauce!! The prawn crackers must have been about 3 days old because they were very stale. Will definitely not be ordering from this place again sorry. 👎🏼

We ordered a huge order through Uber Eats & when the driver arrived, he canceled the whole order instead of transferring the job to a new driver! I called the restaurant to see what happened & what we could do to fix it. They informed me that they still have my order & it’s ready to go but there’s no driver. They said they will call Uber Eats first then call me back. I had another employee call be back & explained that Uber will refund me the first order. While on the phone we made sure to re order correctly & they stayed on the phone until the order came through properly. When the food arrived we were really happy with the amount we got and that it was all still hot. Both pork & veggie dumplings, vegetarian noodles/rice, sweet & sour pork & lemon chicken was super delicious. My partner said that the special fried rice really hit the spot! We even got a special little note saying sorry for the order being stuffed around with a couple drinks which was a nice touch for the uber stuff around, very thoughtful 😊 Thank you to the team for being super amazing & helpful. Will get food from here again!

Small family owned & operated business. Food is very tasty...I had the special fried rice & can say that it is in the top 5 best that I have eaten. Their dumplings are always awesome. They care about their customer feedback as well. Priced very reasonable & good potion size ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Found this place on google. Was expecting food like every other restaurant that serves similar items and was sooo wrong. The food here is completely of another level. It was all fantastic. The only down side is I couldn’t fit any more in my tummy. I whist wanted to keep eating. The dumplings the spring rolls the honey chicken the deserts. All unlike any I’ve ever had. I will never go anywhere else now. Service was impeccable fantastic people. Will return soon. I’ve already told my friends to try it.

Amazing food and lovely staff! We usually take away and the food is always ready to go when we come to collect, I hope one day that it moves into a bigger space and has more dining in room, thanks Dumpling De Chef!

Last minute decision to go out for dinner. The place is a little noisy only because of its size but that doesn't take away from the food. My wife had fried hokkien noodles with prawns which she enjoyed thoroughly. I had the sweet and sour pork with fried rice. Just the right serving for me. We also had the pork fried dumplings and the special fried pork bun. The whole meal was great as was value for money. We will be back. Loved the food.

Ordered vegetarian dumplings and beef dumplings with my husband. Vegetarian were delicious, not a single fault or flaw with them, so well done guys! Beef ones left a bit to be desired and tasted a lot like it was just sausage roll filling, so we might pass on those next time. Ordered curry chicken with steamed rice and it was delicious. Husband enjoyed his order of garlic prawns. Overall, I'd rate food a 4 out of 5, presentation a 2.5 (standard, not above average), and service a 3.

By far the best Asian food in Cranbourne! we have it 1-2 times a week and there isn't a dish that l haven't liked so far. Good prices as well

Yum Yum Yum we had vegetarian fried rice which was delicious and vegetarian pan fried dumpling which were great and the spring onion pancake was something different and also very nice The staff were lovely too Thank You we will be back

Best dumplings I’ve ever had and I’ve had dumplings in multiple countries! Although as of late their Chinese broccoli and oyster sauce hasn’t impressed me in taste like it used to. <br/>I will always eat here for dumplings!

Pretty average dumplings, and average service.<br/><br/>Tried the pork dumplings and the chicken and prawn. Unlike other places where pan fried means only one side is fried these dumplings felt like they were deep fried, the whole thing was crunchy. The fillings were ok, there was a good amount of prawn but the flavour was ok. <br/>Service was ok, staff kept rushing customers coming in, saying that they were closing. Food came in a decent time.

Can you ever say no to super hot and spicy Dumplings!? Not me atleast. I can finish their whole Garlic Chilli Oil. On a suggestion, in a different container mix Garlic chilli Oil with Vinegar sauce on the ratio of 3:1 trust me thats heaven.. only if you are a spice lover. Staff is just so happy. I cannot stop praising about their juicy Dumplings and Deep Fried Squid Tentacles(suggested by chef) and yasss.. I loved it!! I always prefer to sit outside because of my addiction to spicy food... because that cool breeze work as balance for me to the Hot Food. P.S:: I get to make my food spicy here, else they have mild flavors too.

Dumpling De Chef is probably my go to place for affordable dumplings and Chinese cuisine. Located on the main road it can sometimes be hard to find a parking. The restaurant is small with limited seating and it always seems to be busy. Meals come out very quickly and the staff are delightful.

Great service, great dumplings (sweet and sour pork was also amazing) and overall great local dumpling place! Will definitely be returning here.

Came to this area for work purposes and saw this dumpling place.<br/><br/>The ambience is small but suit my style. The price is affordable as well. So glad that I can still manage to find dumplings in the area.<br/><br/>Definitely coming back if I am in the area again.

Our go to for take away dumplings. We've never eaten in as the restaurant is tiny. But don't let that fool you, their dumplings are absolutely delicious and freshly made.<br/>Couldn't recommend this place enough!

Came here to get takeaway for dinner. I ordered black bean which was over $15, Vege spring rolls, fried rice and Vege pan fried dumplings all came to $40 and they chucked in a free bag of prawn crackers. This place is quite small and enticing. Doesn't fit a lot of people inside, glad I got take away because everyone would be able to hear my loud voice lol service was quick although the dumplings weren't the best they were small and I've had way bigger and tastier ones at Pings in Clayton. Blackbean wasn't worth the price but was nice, veggie spring rolls had some werid black stringy stuff in it. Eehhh. Nevermind.

This place is probably the best for dumplings around this area! Have also tried the noodles and main dishes and all were fantastic for a reasonable price. Friendly service too!

Dined inside this establishment, and can I say if it is a warm day, best avoid this. The place was so hot that sweat was dropping off us all, which as you can imagine set the mood for the ensuing dining experience. Dumplings were ok, but was so off put with the lack of a/c that could not think straight. Maybe try take away....

It's nice to find new dumpling places. I ordered the 12 pack of beef dumplings (fried) and was not disappointed. Juicy little morsels of yummy-ness. My partner got the 12 pack of mixed steamed dumplings and enjoyed them all. We also tried the sweet and spicy beef dish. I wasn't overly impressed with the meat dish, have had better, but when the dumplings are good I don't really need anything else. I will stick to just dumplings next time - and yes, there will be a next time (very soon.)

4 people $61: pork dumplings, pork buns, pork puffs (excellent) honey prawns (9 big ones), fried rice & soft drinks. All big serves. All good, except dumplings were just OK. Only about 8 tables, so book on this app. Very convenient.

On our way to Phillip Island and needed some dinner and came across this place online. It had great reviews so thought we give it a go, we weren't disappointed. Absolutely delicious! We had pork sui mai, BBQ pork rolls, satay skewers, spring onion pancakes, pan fried chicken and prawn dumplings and jasmine tea. Everything was fresh and super tasty. Only letdown was the satay skewers which were tough. We'll definitely be back!

Walked in randomly on a Saturday morning. Had the pan fried pork dumplings, steamed prawn and steamed prawn and corn dumplings. All were great. If you want something quick and delicious, definitely worth a visit.

I've been going to Dumpling de chef since it opened. Food and service has never failed me here. You must order the pork dumplings, and get your hands on some BBQ pork puffs if they have any available (the sell like hot cakes!)

Have had take away on a couple of occasions and have always enjoyed the dumplings. It's a funny little place could do with more space as there isn't any where to wait especially if it's busy. Very casual staff but they definitely know what there doing. I'll be back :)

Best dumplings in the south east! We have been here a few times and the food has not disappointed so far. The dumplings are all home made and the flavour that they have got in them is amazing! We also order lemon chicken and fried rice and they were also amazing. I would highly recommend that people order on the phone prior to picking their order up. Worth a try, it will not disappoint.

Came in around 6 30 after newly moving to the area because I'd heard great things about the dumplings! Ordered vegetarian steamed dumplings and wow, they did not disappoint! So full of flavour and such great value for money, kept me full for the rest of the night. Staff were so lovely too! But they could really do with an expansion or a renovation because there is barely any room inside at all. It's probably my fault for not ordering on the phone, but after ordering and paying, I was asked to wait outside for my dumplings and it was quite chilly out :( So I would highly recommend, but if you're going to order to take-away, call beforehand!

Been here quite a few times, and must say it is a tale of two cities here. Firstly the dumplings here are really really good, fresh and with great fillings they sure hit the spot, the pork Sui mai is probably the best I have had anywhere including Hong Kong, they are really that great.The rest of the menu though is pretty ordinary, it has that crappy westernised suburban Chinese food theme going, which is a shame because people even here in Cranbourne would really appreciate a well executed traditional menu.

Unfortunately it is too hard to place a phone order. Hung up on, then called up about the collection of half an order. I'm sure the food is fantastic but eating in would be the way to go!

Dumplings are fresh and tasty. The other dishes are great too. We've never had a bad meal here and the service is great - unlike other dumpling places! Its our new favourite place to go

Oh my goodness. Fried pork dumplings were so good. It's nice not to have to drive half an hour for lovely dumplings anymore, and $9.50 for $15 very reasonable too. The hot and sour soup was also really good, and always love a spring onion pancake!

I went here with family just over a week ago. We tried the chicken/prawn dumplings, special fried rice, lamb skewers and siu mai. As far as Chinese food goes, the food here is even a bit cheaper than almost anywhere you could go in Chinatown and definitely better than most places in Chinatown.
