Review Small Bar - Crows Nest

A lovely bar with great food and atmosphere. There’s a area further in the bar that requires booking because it has beautiful lights. Great place for dates and friends gathering

Drinks were yummy, really nice vibe but the food was meh. We got the pulled pork burgers and duck pancakes and the sauce was really sweet on them and overpowering. Arrenchini balls were nice though.

Great food, Great service, Great cocktails! Small bar in Crows Nest ticks all the boxes. As a coeliac I feel so safe eating here and all of the staff are more than happy to talk me through the menu and answer all my allergen questions. The atmosphere is just simply fantastic and cozy, they offer 3 different sections, but out the back under the fairy lights is my favourite place to sit and sip.

What a great place little find. The small bar is the perfect place to catch up with finds, to have a drink or sit down for a meal. Nice courtyard out the back covered with grape vines and fairy lights. You can reserve tables so you need to get in quick for busy nights (Fri & Sat). Food is also great. Highly recommend the Tacos and truffle fries. Definitely will be back.

The service is good. The food is lacking. We had the tacos and the fish pieces were almost an afterthought. Same with the chicken sliders. both were almost present. The bar is lovely, but please pick up the game on the food. It’s tasty just lacking.

This is my favourite bar in Sydney! I go nearly every week (pre lockdown) and can't wait for it to reopen! A massive thank you for helping me celebrate my boyfriends birthday last night with the lockdown taco and margarita delivery, he had a wonderful night! 11/10 recommend this place for amazing food, cocktails and wonderful staff!

Excellent food. Relaxed atmosphere and great service. A real hidden gem amongst all the eatiries along the road. Well worth making a b line to it. Good for social gatherings or if you want to impress a client. You will not be disappointed. Best tacos in town!!!!

Cool vibe with a cosy feel about it. Great staff and the food doesn't disappoint. Suits having a drink while having a meeting, or casual layback drink with friends. Small bar fits perfectly into Cruisey Crows Nest

Fantastic venue, especially the back courtyard where we had our gathering. I had around 20-30 people and we took up half the area where everyone got to sit. Good selection of wine and other drinks. Food was super tasty. Staff were friendly and helpful. Especially Pippa who i dealt with for the booking. Price was reasonable. Would recommend!

Great after-work-drinks place in Crows Nest, not to mention the breakfasts at the weekend. Staff are always helpful and friendly. Love this place

We held my partners 30th here and it was brilliant! The staff were amazing and food was delicious and such great value! Highly recommend.

Just attended a function at Small Bar Crows Nest. The staff were fantastic as was the food. Would highly recommend The Small Bar. We were made to feel so welcome and look forward to returning

Such an amazing venue! The staff go above and beyond to create a really warm, welcoming atmosphere and ensure your experience is amazing. Special shoutout to Jackson and the staff for looking after me and my friends last night. Honourable mention to the chefs as well, the food will CHANGE YOUR LIFE! Definitely a place worth checking out - could not fault it at all.

This place is BIG on cosy, huge on service, and a great place to come and visit regardless of occasion.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent food and drink options.

We used to live locally but have moved away. It was so nice to see the place has been developed nicely in the intervening years with all that was good kept

Just threw a 2x21 birthday party here for 80 people. Awesome venue. Awesome staff. Great food and a lovely wine list. Almost wish I could turn 42 again sometime soon.

Do not come here for breakfast. Just finished up and had terrible bitter coffee that took 45 minutes to come out. Breakfast itself was avocados on toast, which would have been ok had it not been served on the most stale, chewy bread known to man. The bread could barely be cut with a steak knife let alone the butter knife provided. Would not recommend this mediocre place for breakfast. Not worth your time or money.

Had a function here in the outdoor courtyard. Staff were amazing and it was very organized and communication leading up to the event was great. Everyone had a great time and we've been back numerous times, love this place!!

Truly excellent at lunch/drifting into the afternoon on a sunny winter day. Amazing wines with friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff, combined with a great ambience. The selection for dining was fun and done well!!!
Treveatsworld
A great neighbourhood spot for breakfast. One of the best freshly squeezed OJs you can find in the lower north shore. Service is always friendly and the hash browns always hit the spot. <br/>Read the full post on the link below

It was a rainy afternoon and it was really amazing to find this cozy nook . We had the Saturday special , a platter to share with a bottle of red . It came with a portion of beef sliders- AMAZING with the maple mayo and pickles , fish tacos with mango salsa - DELICIOUS But just a bite size portion ( I sad 😭) , corn chips with Guacamole - I LOVE AVO and the olives - Not yum ( a bit tough). We also had the lamb skewers which were juicy and delish ! The wine 🍷 accompanied the food well. Looooooove the ambience (byooootifoooool) . Service was splendid ! Thumbs up 👍

Pathetic and non trustworthy staff. Left my Prada sunglasses after the office christmas party on 9/12/16 , called after getting home around mid night and staff confirmed that he found them and is going to leave them at front counter for pick up next day . Called next day in morning if I can go and pick up , got the response that they don't have anything. What should I interpret from this ???
MSGCafeteria
I recently came here to celebrate the momentous first birthday party of mini-Aunt T. Small Bar seems to be the go-to place for special occasions for MSG Cafeteria due to its convenient and central location so I thought I'd use this opportunity to document and share the food experience. Located along Willoughby Street (i.e. main food street) in Crows Nest, Small Bar faces some intense competition in the food stakes. There is limited seating outside the main entrance and along the long aisle towards the courtyard around the back, however the courtyard space is big enough to accommodate 40+ people.

Had brekkie here this morning. Quiant little venue and I'd imagine its quite a nice bar at night time. I ordered the quail eggs, but was informed a few minutes after ordering that they didn't have any. I found this odd for a fixed menu item but no stress, I ordered the green breakfast instead. It was like a home cooked meal and nice enough. Poached eggs were inconsistent - one perfectly poached and the other underdone. Coffee was bitter and I couldn't finish it.

It is exactly what it is, a small bar. Quite narrow with a long bar to your left and to the right are tables.<br/><br/>Have to say overall the food was not that great. The chips were normal crispy chips, nothing special, and came out with tomato sauce and garlic sauce. Corn chips were good in that they give you a lot of guacamole. Usually places don’t do this but here they don’t hold back and you are sure to have no shortage of guac. Sliders weren’t great, very bland and very basic. Unexciting. Chicken skewers were tender and had nice big pieces. I can conclude that when it comes to quantity Small Bar are pretty good, but quality was a little lacking.

Not a bad place, but not excellent either. <br/>Noisy and narrow shop, and it seems they are confused if they are self serve and service. Pay and order your drinks at the bar, ask for water from the passing waiter get told to go to the bar... <br/>Food was ok nothing to rave about.

Great cafe! Amazing food and customer service. The pizzas are delicious! We also enjoyed the hoisin duck and calamari. We went with 7 adults and two young children and they were very accommodating of us and even made room for our pram. We'll be back for sure.
Fortheloveoffood
A favourite spot for wine and food, but recently also went here for breakfast and it was fantastic. Had the green brekkie which was delicious. The courtyard out the back is a great space for both morning and night. Would definitely recommend!

We had the Small Bar Sampler & duck tacos with drinks. The food was average, fried fish, chicken skwer, cheese on bread, crumbed zucchini, mini burger. Nothing to write about. However, live music (from 5pm on Sundays) created a relaxed atmosphere - beautiful singing & piano - we enjoyed an uninterrupted girlie catch up. Extra 1/2 point for the music.

$11.50 bacon spinach tomato sandwich <br/>$7.50 orange juice<br/>Questionable value but generally good quality ingredients.<br/>Staff were friendly and service was fair.

Typically a great bar for dinner and drinks, one Sunday morning I decided to try Small Bar's breakfast menu - we were almost the only table there so the service was quick! The green machine sounds ideal but I opted for a different healthy option; the quinoa porridge. Topped with coconut and banana it was really warming, sweet and well priced. I'm hoping that the Acai bowl will be great come summer.

We waited way too long for a standard fair breakfast. And to the table of people face-timing someone, take a long hard look at yourself. Also noticed people waiting over 10mins for a take away coffee. I salute their patience.

Small Bar breakfast. Small bar in crown nest does breakfast now. Walking past, the doors were open and the menu seemed good. I figured an $8.50 bacon and eggs roll was worth a try. The roll was solid, on a toasted brioche as seems to be fashionable the days. Very good value. Coffee was reasonable, although one cappuccino was quite milky. Long black was decent. Staff were great. Flexible and keen to get feedback.<br/><br/>They will need to deliver high quality coffee to compete with crows Nest favourites like sparrow and bean drinking etc... , But certainly seems a good option and location for reasonably priced breakfast.
Best Small Bars
Upon entering Small Bar, you may be excused for thinking it is not that small - a large welcoming bar at the front leads back through a seated area to the open terrace. On a sunny day, the combination of buzz and dappled light creates a welcoming feel to this outdoor area.

Definitely a perfect little spot to catch up with friends, or take someone out on a date. Although the space is smaller, and you find that you are sat quite close to other patrons, there is a sense of intimacy there. It’s incredibly warm, friendly and offers a relaxed atmosphere. I went on Tuesday night, and was told by the staff that they have live music on the weekends, so perhaps it would be a little more livelier then. Either way, whatever you’re after – you can pick a night that suits!

Overall, a nice little bar to catch up with a friend and grab a bite to eat.

Another one of the Sydney girls is leaving to head overseas sniffle. A leaving party was in order. We meet at Small Bar and settle into the dark surrounds, with extremely warm aircon inside and heat lamps for the prettily lit outside area. The level of noise is quite high, as you would expect from a packed bar on a Saturday night. The wines are fairly reasonably priced and I wished we had tried out the 2009 Hunter Valley Bogan Chardonnay ($6.50 a glass, $29 bottle). Next to our table in the inside section were a few antique mirrors hanging on the wall and a little bookshelf with interesting objects perched on top, that wasn't trying too hard like a lot of other small bars of the moment. The girls ordered some Cabernet Sauvignon, which after being at the Good Food and Wine Show all day was quite hard to drink, especially with me over analysing the glass (after the Riedel wine glass tasting event I attended). Yes, I've become a little bit more of a wine snob, uh oh. But I'm being unfair,

From the collection of antique mirrors on the wall to the dog eared Truman Capote novel nestled amongst a jumble of bric-a-brac, the bar radiates a convivial vibe of being in someone’s (very cool) living room.

Aesthetically beautiful bar in Crows Nest. A beautiful bar with a dim, yellow candle and bulb lighting, friendly staff and an impressive menu for such a small venue. The buzz is great with a definite mature clientele base. <br/>The music selection is vast and friendly and set to a comfortable background roar. If you don't fancy the interior music you can always sit out front without warmth and music to enjoy undisturbed chit chat. <br/>The bars are small and stylish with friendly bar staff.<br/>Everything was good until the food arrived. I ordered the:<br/>-Warm bread and olive oil. The bread was indeed warm but tasted stale and the dip tray was too small for the bread slices to be dipped in with insufficient olive oil.<br/>-Beer battered steak chips. The chips, although a good idea, were overbearingly oily and unpleasant.<br/>-Crispy Skin Barramundi. Although aesthetically pleasing to the eye, didn't deliver on the flavour spectrum. The barramundi was indeed crispy skin but dry, the corn purée didn't compliment the fish, the salad complicated the dish and the cream cheese(?) overpowered every flavour both texturally and flavour wise.<br/><br/>Basically a lovely place for drinks but don't come hungry for food. <br/><br/>6/10

High expections, sadly not fulfilled. Nice atmosphere, but rather hard to get a seat for 2. It's a nice place to catch up for drinks (limited selection - but fine for wine). Food on the other hand was a great disappointment. We ordered the beer battered chips (overly done and overbearingly oily), barramundi (an amalgamation of flavours battling for attention with the fish being overcooked and dry), warm bread with olive oil (bread was not so warm, but over toasted and tasted slightly stale)<br/>I have been here a few times for drinks and had a pleasant experience, but I wouldn't highly recommend it if you are looking to eat something that will fulfil your palates.

Fantastic friendly staff, nice bar food menu and pleasant atmosphere on a sat/sun arvo. Staff were more than willing to accommodate my stroller.

Great drinks and food selection. I love this place, have come here a few times and the food choices are great- you can get meals or share plates and wine selection is lovely. Love the outdoor courtyard

Best bar in Crows Nest. Easily the best bar in Crows Nest- great vibe, friendly service and good wine list. Perfect for a mid week local drink.
HG
Delicious food, excellent service and lovely wine - a perfect location for Sunday afternoon lunch. Thanks guys!

Meh, not worth the hype. The bar line is too long to drink, its too noisy to talk and too crowded to dance. Its a tiny pub, not a halfway house/speak easy/small bar that I expected.<br/>Been there a few times and wont bother again. If you are keen, get there early, grab a table, order share plates and a few bottles of wine then stay put.
Kylie
I like the atmosphere but never made it far past the front door as it was too crowded. Hugely disappointed by the French wine stocked here, but hopefully they can make a few changes and it will be worth it.

Unique experience!. We went after a Sunday afternoon shopping session as someone recommended it to us. The live music was excellent, tapas were nice and wine list great. We only wanted to eat quickly but glasses of wine followed one another and we had a very special time there! I strongly recommend it!

Ridiculously loud thumping music we were all yelling to be heard and in the end gave up and went to dinner somewhere much more pleasant. Would we go back - never!

Perfect place to relax. Have been a few times and keep loving every experience. Perfect place to catch up with friends, relaxing atmosphere - great wine list and love the menu. Perfect retreat when you just need to destress from the day. <br/>Can get busy at night and sunday afternoons.

Very Pleasant. Great place for an afternoon drink with friends!

Small bar revolution. Small Bar greets you with an understated entrance and a small brick and timber bar leading to the long corridor that hints at something wonderful at its end. The dappled light of the sun filtering through the hanging garden beckons and we find ourselves the lucky last people to get a table out the back. The winelist is a selection of about 35 mainly Australian and NZ middle of the road, easy drinking styles with a couple of Frenchies thrown in for good measure. What's wrong with NSW wines Small Bar? One token Hunter semillon seams a bit stingy to me, especially when it's your home state. The menu is brief and I have to say, a little disappointing. Don't get me wrong , the food is good here, just very safe. Small Bar delivers exactly what Crows Nest needs, a relaxed venue for a drink and a snack to catch up with friends and unwind. It's not really a Melbourne Bar, more of a shrunken pub and can get pretty noisy on busy nights, but the friendly staff and the candlelit courtyard leave us confident in our decision to park here for the evening.

Great Taste & Value. I took some clients here for a lunch and was impressed in all aspects. The attentive staff supply great, quick food that is very tasty and talk about value. $70 for 4 people to have mains and a bottle of wine. The client think's we're great, the boss thinks we're great - everyone happy. Great setting, the back court yard is a nice place to chat shop and the decor is very simple and traditional. The owners have done well. Top marks.
Tiff
Great wine selection - can be hard to get a seat at night. Cosy atmosphere.

In a good spot and busy for a Monday night but the SMH had included it in Good Living the previous week. Ok but service v slow and perfunctory. Tired rocket served with starter pate which was also a bit dry. Ok risotto and lamb burger, my mrs. liked her salad. Outdoor back bar needs work on the ambience and thump thump music was awful. The small bar revolution continues in Sydney but this Small Bar doesn't advance the cause much. Oh, no draft beer.
