Review At Restaurant - Crows Nest

Matthew
Overall experience was good , two of us went there for dinner , made a booking beforehand . Reservation is highly recommended , only two staff on the floor others busy preparing food . Ordered deep fried white bait , avocado&broccolini tempura , batter was very light and thin , well seasoned 💯 Then we ordered Snapper sashimi with white soy , it was the highlight of the dinner then we ordered second serve because it was too good but we requested it no spring onion Nigiri came after that , probably the entree and sashimi were very impressive the sushi didn’t meet expectation , the rice was a bit mushy not sticky enough , we sat at the sushi counter saw how the seared salmon belly was made but they were cold when served Meant to eat nigiri with hands but I used sanitizer so I picked a nigiri with chopstick , I’m an Asian and I’m good at using chopsticks but rice was loose , it fell apart , not a big deal well not end of the world but it shouldn’t be

Quality of food is great. The seafood is all fresh... the sushi set is good value, though my cut of salmon was a little chewy.... with that being said everything else was great. Even the tuna which I am not a fan of.... was really soft and fresh.... the condiments that went with each piece complimented the sushi well. The calms in the clam udons were really good too... The grilled kingfish head... was a generous portion... its definately too much for 1 person to eat or even 2 with other orders.. but it was good value and cooked/seasoned well. Overall food quality is great.... though the staff is a little rushed with us having to order quickly and having us leave and pay the bill quickly too...... I understand there are time limits due to covid but we still had plenty of time but felt they still rushed us out.

One of my fav places in northern Syd. Their lunch specials are such a bang for buck. But the food is amazing, so worth it even without the special. Highly recommend the Wagyu with fries, pipis and the sushi sashimi platter.

Received the news that this absolute treasure of Crows Nest dining scene, is closing down in April with the site being required for the light rail. Atsushi San has ran the perfect Japanese restaurant for about a decade now. Simply the best, pound for pound, Japanese restaurant I've ever been to. Having lived in Japan for several months, that says a lot. You could be eating at Tsukiji fish market, and it would be no fresher. Their sushi and sashimi lunch set is the best value meal we have ever had. I've personally been having lunch twice over the years and Tetsuya himself happened to be sitting next to me at the bar. That is the best endorsement one would need. Atsushi san and your wonderful team, thank you for the memories and the great meals over so many years. Gambatte!! Scott

Absolutely love the super affordable lunch menu here! The lunch sets come with a miso soup, appetiser (tofu & salad), a hand roll and dessert, along with the main. They let you mix and match the lunch sets so you can have a taste of more dishes too. Service can be quite slow sometimes as they only have one main sushi chef and two wait staffs.

Excellent Japanese food in a cozy space. Favourites from our dinner were the cooked options - tempura and Wagyu beef were delicious! Staff were also really friendly and accommodating as we had brought cake for a birthday and they helped us serve it.

First time trying this place last night. I've been to Japan many times before and can confirm this place is extremely authentic. The sashimi is very fresh and chefs are awesome too. Would highly recommend.

It’s my favourite Japanese restaurant. Amazing food and services! I used to be a regular at Toriciya. But I think here is nothing but better. I hope they will reopen after the metro is ✅

The food in this small restaurant is consistently amazing which makes booking absolutely essential. On my last visit I had for the first time the sushi combo where the chef puts together the best options he can deliver (I forgot the name of the dish). It comes at a price but it was the best sushi I've ever had outside of Japan! Other dishes are more reasonable considering the quality and you can't go wrong there either. My wife is Japanese and my Japanese friends also highly recommend this restaurant. So if you're looking for authentic Japanese food in Sydney you absolutely shouldn't miss At Restaurant.

For those in Sydney who like quality and fresh exquisite Japanese food, particularly sushi. I recommend ordering "omakase" the Chef special sushi of the day, the more pricy sushi option but definitely the best! The deep fry small fish is a treat and the sashimi with jalapeĂąo/yuzu is real good too. BYO is possible but some good sake and wine selection also available. They prefer not over booking so as to keep the service flowing, I recommend tel booking in advance and they will try to fit you in. The sushi is delicate, fresh fish finely cut, the rice perfect moisture and not too packed, and the size not too big not too small, just perfect so as to give you a perfect degustation. My favorite Japanese sushi restaurant in Sydney. Make sure you take the time to enjoy!

The sushi is top quality and the staff are very friendly. Highly recommend!

Always enjoy our meals here, for both lunch and dinner! Very fresh, good quality food! Dedicated chef and staff, we admire the chef's dedication to the food he creates, hard to come by these days! Thank you Atsushi-san!

I was very disappointed by your lack of service. A cockroach fell on me at lunch today (Friday 2nd March 2018). I screamed and brushed it off. One of your staff caught the cockroach, but no one said anything to our table - no apology or anything! No compensation was offered either, just a shrug of the shoulders when we raised the issue of the cockroach with them. Your food is excellent, but you really need to work on your service.

We have now had two very good meals here. Delicious food and very good, friendly service. We'll definitely be back.

Great value lunchtime deal, Thursday through Sunday: $20 for starter, entree, main and dessert. Wonderful freshly prepared Japanese food, get a seat at the counter and watch the chef do his stuff!
Minna Bennett
Yummy yummy sashimi!!! Excellent dinner. The fish was fresh and light. Will definitely return and recommend to others.
Cheryl Harbridge
Excellent food and service! A must!!!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Was very good but the wait last visit was WAY too long. The sole chef at the counter spent all his time dedicated to serving the omakase menu and everyone else seated at the tables were lower in priority unfortunately. The karaage chicken is great and sashimi is decent as well.
Kathy Pejakovic
Delicious food, great service. Definitely coming back!

Best modern Japanese restaurant in Sydney bar none. Visit here, and enjoy.

Their lunch sets are excellent, great variety of choices

Simply pound for pound, the best Japanese in Sydney. Incredible freshness, authenticity and value for money. Brilliant!

Fav sushi place in Sydney, reminds me of sushi from Japan where what appears to be just a slice of fish on rice but yet taste amazing.
Megan Marett
Everything was spot on and really yummy

I've been going this restaurant for years - when it was fuuki now - I love it even more now. I take everyone I know there and never had I a bad meal. Food superb, service friendly and its a byo. My only Criticism is that these days its so popular that if I don't book, I cant get a table - note to self, be more organised!!!!

One of the best traditional japanese sushi restaurants in Sydney and a hidden gem in Crows Nest. Highly recommended

No signs except when presenting you the bill (at the end) that card is $50 min spend. Got charged $50 for $47 bill.

Absolutely love the super affordable lunch menu here! The lunch sets come with a miso soup, appetiser (tofu & salad), a hand roll and dessert, along with the main. They let you mix and match the lunch sets so you can have a taste of more dishes too. The sashimi is a hit & miss as there has been quite a few times where it’s not very fresh. Service can be quite slow sometimes as they only have one main sushi chef and two wait staffs.

The food is really excellent - great sushi and sashimi in particular. The service was friendly but disorganized, with a lot of people seeming to achieve not a lot. It’s also a bit cramped - the gap between our table and the next was less than 2cm. Don’t go for the ambience or the snappy service, but do go for the food!
Joy Of Eating Out
Best sashimi on the North Shore. Order the omakase sashimi and let the chef take care of you. Butter clams, shellfish miso, rainbow sushi are great too. The lunch sets are amazing value and quality. Service is top notch. Book ahead, it gets busy.

Hidden gem in Crows Nest!

Decent Japanese, BYO!!!!!!!!
The At sushi set (10sushi with 6mini rolls) was so perfect! Usually restaurants would put cucumber mini rolls at the side, but this place puts tuna roll 😍.
Hot food was average, but will definitely go back and try other sashimi/sushi 😋

Have known about this place for ages and always pass by but finally got to try it last night. Sushi here is LEGIT, wish I had come here sooner.

Omakase sashimi set was fantastic. I don't ever recall having proper pickled mackerel in Australia, really takes me back to Japan, and they even had bonito. Mackerel had negi and ginger on top, balancing out the slight fishiness. Kingfish and salmon slices were premium cuts, and appropriately so considering the cost of the set.
@Sushi set was also on point. The large grain sushi rice used has great texture and is flavoured just right. If it was served just slightly warmer it would be perfect. Nice simple accompaniments on some pieces, really demonstrates the knowledge of the sushi-ya.

Uni and snapper special was a real surprise, definitely some of the freshest uni I've ever had in Australia, so creamy and sweet.

Grilled mackerel was executed nicely, real juicy and the right level of salt marination. Skin could be slightly crispier though.

Pricing is definitely on the high side, especially if you're trying to get full on sashimi, but is definitely appropriate for the quality. Honestly it was a 5+ star meal on food, but service was eh. The girl serving was nice and attentive, but the male server was brisk and cold. Drinks list needs abit more variety as well to be a real 5 star. Definitely will be returning in future to try the rest of the menu.

The best place for good Sushi in North Shore!

The place: Clean and Tidy, traditional Japan Sushi bar environment.

The food: must try - Tuna, Kingfish & Salmon Belly, Eel, Scampi.

They also have seasonal daily special fish that is not on the menu, depends on how lucky you are, my favourite is the Toro! (Tuna Belly) in different levels of fat. Also swordfish and bassgrouper.

Wagyu steak is also my favourite and must try the Sake shot, only $3.

The Staff: Nice and friendly, Sushi chef is from Japan and have been in the shop for a long time, very experienced in making great Sushi, the style of Sushi is pretty much similar to the Omasake in Japan.

Booking Tips: Very popular during lunch so must book a day in advanced, dinner walk-in around 6-6:30 and after 8, you will always get a table. But mostly booked out 7-8.

Price: The reason lunch is more popular is because they have Lunch set menu, excellent quality and cheap! $20 for Sashimi Set & $25 for Sashimi and sushi set, plus rice, handroll, tofu, salad, miso soup and ice cream. Will definitely get you full!

Dinner is more pricy but definitely deserve it, typically $70-100 per 2 person.

Others: Lunch paid by cash and dinner can use cards.

If you are looking for a good Japanese restaurant in the lower North Shore area then this place is a must try. I came here for a Saturday lunch and was happy to see there were a lot of choices from the lunch menu. The lunch deals are really good value for money as you get 2 sides, a choice of hand roll (depending on what main you get), miso soup, choice of main and a dessert, all for about $20-$25.

Finally tried At Restaurant as a few of our friends had recommended their sushi. Placed an order for the Omakase sushi set.. then realised shortly afterwards that the sushi chef prepared all of the sushi and sashimi on his own (with no assistant) so prepare for a long wait especially on weekends... Our sushi took 1.5 hours.

Was the wait worth it? I must say that the quality of the seafood was great... however the rice was dry and hard which made the experience not enjoyable. At that price point we expected so much more. I'd like to believe that it was probably just a bad batch for the day but I'd definitely think twice before coming back here..

Good sushi, nothing special but I don’t think it’s worth the price.
Steak was really good but then again for the portion I don’t think it’s worth the money.
Great Japanese food in Crows Nest. Both the sashimi and cooked food (tempura, teriyaki) were enjoyed by all. Would recommend!

Remember to book in advance as they rarely take walk-ins.

A solid Japanese dining experience at crows nest!

My favourite for the night would definitely have to go to the wagyu steak potato net. The wagyu cuts was so tender that it literally melted in my mouth. Even thinking about it is making me drool. The cuttlefish leg tempura would have to come to a close second.

As a side note, it is difficult to secure a booking for @ restaurant, so I would advice anyone that wants to dine here to book at least 1 week in advance.

I've been wanting to come here for a while now. Every time I call to book there are no availabilities. By chance, late last Sunday we entered when they were close to closing up for the night, and thankfully we weren't turned away. The food here is so delicious in a low key venue. Japanese food is my favourite so I've tried many dishes across many restaurants. The dish which I have not had before which we ate here is the hot soba (listed on the specials board), pictured here. It came with truffle oil and it was divine. I will definitely return.

We love going to "Mr At". Food is delicious and fresh and the staff are wonderful. There is always a good atmosphere and importantly as a judgement lots of Japanese clients!!

@Restaurant was the very last institution rated 4.2 and above which I tried. It took me four attempts to secure a place at the popular restaurant - they were closed on ANZAC day and fully booked on the two other occasions (even though seats were empty for several hours) - but the effort was not worth a single bit. In my opinion, it was one of my worst food experience.

I ordered an assortment of dishes including the miso soup with clams, cheese gyoza, unagi sushi and sushi roll with avocado and prawn tempura. First, The miso soup was sandy (yes, sandy) because the clams were not thoroughly washed. Second, low-grade rice grains was used for the sushi and the sushi was poorly compressed, rolled and slice (look at the photograph). The sushi roll disintegrated almost immediately and it would be better that I ordered a bento. Third, the gyoza was oily and soggy. I was not too sure if they had filtered the oil from the gyoza after frying. Last, the unagi just stinks.

Located on Pacific Highway in Crows Nice, @ ("at") restaurant is a small but popular Japanese eatery. I had the omakase which meant Chef's choice and he/she provided a selection of 13 sushi/nigiri. Each sushi was well made, though I found the urchin one a bit weird tasting. The marinated roe one was amazing though. Overall I thought whilst the food was great...the price of $70pp was a bit high eapecially since we had to order more food! Perhaps you can just pick the individual ones yourself when you visit.
Foodie2016
Poor customer service, atmosphere is non-existent, quite pricey and overall a poor dining experience. Definitely avoid. There a lot of other Japanese restaurants in Crows Nest that I would go to.

The exterior may not look much but it's what they serve count. A good cozy Japanese restaurant located on the pacific highway, very easily being overlooked. They offer tasty modern Japanese dishes, the blackboard special is what you should look out for! A pleasant dining experience. Will be back for their value bento lunch specials!

Amazing food, lovely delicate and fresh, the interior is basic and could do with being slightly less harsh with the lighting but can't fault the food, would have been 5.0 except for the ambiance.

Burning Rainbow Roll and Fried Mackerel are my fav dishes. Love the fresh sashimi and sushi. The pork dish was also tender and soft. It would go well with rice.
Micku
The food is here is alright. I wouldn't say it's top notch just average to be honest. The food here is not cheap if your here for dinner and you would need to pay at least $50 to be anywhere near full. We decided to come here after a friends recommendation but we found it to be just alright. Ambience is OK. Not too busy. Overall, our experience and expectations we just average. Customer service is friendly and not over the top.
Farhad Shahabian
Drove all the way from Coffs Harbour to be told they were closed!!! It was 9:00pm and was turned away... (FYI hours are until 9:30) not much for customer service 🙁!

Very tasty sushi and other fresh seafood dishes. The soft shell crab and the aubergine starter was two of the highlights for me.
The venue is ok, depending on the occasion. It's informal and and sort of a cafe style.
The price is a little more than suggested here - we spent about $110 without booze. Staff were lovely. Overall a good night and I'd definitely go back.

It was okay. The servers were very active to assist. We had a special lunch menu, and the price was affordable. We just couldn't have tuna which is my favourite sashimi. I will try tuna next time.

The closing time is 9:30pm. But when I entered this restaurant at 8:20pm, staff said to me it already closed! It was more than one hour before the closing time! How can they say like that?! I was so upset and disappointed.
Auvickiwk
Very disappointed want to try their lunch on a Thursday around 1:30pm. But the waitress said it will take up half an hour to wait for lunch, even though there are lots of empty table. I think they should put the restaurant sign close if they decided not doing any more business. What a good service restaurant. Certainly impressed and remember for it. Never mind this is not the only Japanese restaurant in Crows Nest.
Foodie Mookie
Terrific Japanese food in Crows Nest with the Omakase (chef's selection) the highlight. You must book ahead as it is a small restaurant and is very popular. Worth a visit if you like fresh seafood.

Definitely recommend!

Especially the lunch is a steal deal. 20$ for 4 course meal:

1. Simple green salad, a small agedashi tofu: Delicious tofu!2. Miso soup: First place that had option between white and red miso soup. Loved the red miso soup (was more salty than miso - hence loved it)3. Plenty of options available, but I chose the sushi platter. Big enough. The size of fish hadnt been compromised even though the meal was cheaper. Loved the presentation too.4. Hand Roll: Lots of options available, but chose scallop. This was the best part of the entire meal and absolutely loved it.5. Green Tea Ice cream: There were a few options available such as black sesame ice cream and plum wine jelly, but I took the green tea ice cream and it was good too.

Simple decor and as it was a Saturday afternoon, found parking easily. Will definitely visit again.
Orange_tree
Good value lunch set with prices ranging from $15-$25 depending on the selected main. They offer a choice of red or white miso soup; I went with the red which had a stronger and more robust flavour than the white. My chicken teriyaki was quite a generous portion and enjoyable enough though not very memorable. The sashimi and sushi combo set looked terrific though and I suffered a bit of food envy. A simple green salad, a small agedashi tofu, a hand roll and a dessert completed the set. The black sesame ice cream was a nice sweet end to the meal. Service was typically Japanese - subdued but efficient and friendly.

Overall a great little local restaurant with fresh sashimi and Japanese dishes. Lamb cutlets were delicious, sashimi was quite fresh, good variety of nigiri. Only thing was that the beef tataki was quite mediocre though.
Debbie
What works:
It's simply set up inside but the sushi bar and dining tables are very clean, upholding the ways of a traditional Japanese sushi bar. Chicken karaage amazing. Soy miso soup lovely and not salty. Ceviche awesomely fresh and with the right touch of acidity.
Sushi & sashimi combo was delicious as the fish was so fresh and treated/served at the right temperature such that it felt like the fish actually melted in my mouth. Sounds kind of silly but that is the only way i can describe it. Teriyaki chicken was really nice texturally and flavour-wise (not too sweet or salty, not dry) but i would like it with more crispiness on the very edges. :)

What doesn't:
Nothing to fault. If i really want to pick on something it would be the two waitresses could be more attentive and proactive.

Overall:
A small restaurant that you can easily overlook while walking/passing on the Pacific Highway in Crows Nest. But it offers a chattery atmosphere with simplicity authenticity in context and in food. So in my books it's a good venue for a simple, meaningful catch up with a few friends.
MSGCafeteria
The @ Restaurant is rather non-descript from the outside - you could easily pass by without noticing it. However, once inside, you enter a traditional Japanese restaurant with wooden decor and floorboards. When I first arrived for lunch, the waitress wasn't even sure if they could fit one diner, even though the restaurant wasn't even half full at the time... Anyway, having confirmed that it was possible, I was then asked to sit in a spare seat. By sitting at the bar table, you get to see the sashimi chef at work in front of the vast display of fresh seafood. All of their lunch sets (either $20 or $25) come with a complimentary appetiser and salad...

I have been eating at this restaurant for over 8 years when it was previously know as Fuuki. It is the most authentic sushi dining experience I know of in Sydney. It is just an absolute pleasure to eat in a restaurant where the passion and dedication for the art of cooking really comes through in the whole experience of being there.

Has anyone heard about the experienced Japanese sushi chef in Crows Nest? Even in Japanese society, @!Restaurant is a still hidden gem. Chef Atsushi started his career as a sushi chef 29 years ago. Since he moved to Sydney in 1993, he worked at Yoshii and Sushi e, and NOBU in the Bahamas. Here is an interview of Chef Atsushi:) http://www.washokulovers.com/chef/atsushi-saito/

Nice little authentic Japanese restaurant along Pacific highway, which unlike others, is not run by Koreans. Menu is simple and daily specials are presented to you on a black chalk board.

Ordered dragon ash roll. A bit small/too simple for what I thought it would be. Fresh salmon would have tasted better as supposed to cooked.

Small sushi set was fresh, enjoyed each bite.
The miso eggplant was really nice. Creamy and sweet, really recommend. Was surprised with the wagu steak and potatoes fries, really tender and juices. Fries were a little too salty but otherwise a good dish, nice served with rice.

Overall service is really prompt and we enjoyed our night. Dinner service does become busy so its best to make a booking

I love this place! I have been here many times. The salmon avocado salad is great, as are the wagyu potato nest, asari udon (although I wish they'd serve the tempura on the side) and basically any sushi/sashimi. I've been once during lunch time to have their lunch special- that was really great value and I didn't feel that the quality or service was any different from usual, which is not always the case with specials!
AdzTheFoodie
Had dinner here on Friday night! Pre book as it gets really busy! Amazingly fresh sushi and sashimi. Quality and freshness of good is impeccable. A lil hidden gem. Will be back for sure! Kingfish jalepeno is a must if you like raw fish. Beef Tataki was divine!
Anna
Delicious! Very fresh and all the food is melt in your mouth good. It is ridiculous how amazing the kingfish jalapeno is. Could get this again and again. The extra kick with the coriander blends wonderfully together. Also ordered the small sushi set and again was super tasty with even the rice made to perfection. I wouldn't get the rainbow roll again, not because it wasn't tasty, but it didn't stand out as much as the others and there are so many options to try which sound amazing!

It's not cheap and I would say you would probably have to spend around $50pp to be comfortably full. Or maybe I just cannot control how much I eat when it comes to sushi/sashimi. Either way it was delicious and I will have to go back to try some of the other dishes.

Overall good, better than its predecessor. Good quality ingredients well executed and with slight twists to be different from standard Japanese food.

We came here for dinner a few nights ago and overall it was a good experience. The food was tasty, and I particularly loved the fried miso eggplant we got as an entree. We also ordered the karaage chicken, which was tender and well cooked, not too oily either. The sushi and sashimi platter was also delicious, and we followed with a Chicken Nanban.

The only real downside to this place was the price. I've been to many Japanese restaurants and while generally sashimi places are a little more expensive, it still is a bit too much to pay $22 for a tiny main dish of Chicken Nanban, especially when I can go elsewhere and pay a lot less for a single dish that would fill me up.

Good experience overall but the price combined with the portion sizes definitely lets it down a little in my books.

Love this place! Very traditional and understated food. Great deals at lunch time too!

Highly recommend their sashimi, but also the wagyu nest. Service is always impeccable.

@ restaurant is one of several Japanese restaurants situated on the busy Pacific Highway in Crows Nest. The cosy eatery was full on the Saturday night we visited. We started with the Beef tataki which was beautifully seared. The sprinkling of the fried onion on top added a nice crunch and the ponzu dressing tied the dish together.
Monica
Another excellent value for your money in Crows Nest.
Their lunch set menu ranges from $15 - $25 and comes with salad, side dish, your choice of main, miso soup, a handroll and dessert of your choice.
I had the Sushi set and it only sets me back $20 !
We went here last time to celebrate an anniversary. We order beef tataki for the entrĂŠe. It was really fresh and nice texture of the beef. Then we add some single sushi rolls, sashimi mix, and a rainbow for the side. We love the salmon belly and the salmon roe. Finally we up to the wagyu potato nest and terriyaki chicken as the main course. The portions are generous and have authentic taste of Japanese food. The idea of potato 'nest' is lovely. We will come back for another another dining experience with @ restaurant!

Went on a quiet Wednesday night at opening time. Nice authentic food, really fresh. Especially enjoyed the grilled salmon carpaccio. Apparently reviews here need to be 140 characters long so here we go.
Bruce
Spontaneous drop in that was an excellent experience!!! A real gem , the kingfish jalapeĂąo is serious and everything was truly excellent... Will be back!
Joe
Went here for the lunch course. All dishes are of very good quality, but a little on the small side. The fish is extremely fresh, and the staff seem nice. The rice seems a little dry compared to the sushi restaurants in Japan, but I think that's asking too much in view of the price. Overall great value.
Sus.licious
Love the food, fresh and authentic. Not a big menu but everything is nicely done. Must book, this place is very busy and it is small. Perfect for small groups, Japanese food and sake!
Hungry4more
Magnificent meal. We were a party of four. This restaurant though not big, had a great feel, you could see the chef slicing and preparing the fresh fish. The meals were were innovative and delicious especially wagyu beef with potato nest and broccoli and avocado tempura. Certainly not your average.

Sushi and Sashimi to die for! I was looking forward to this trip for quite some time, as it had been in the diary for over a week I was counting down the days. I had been here before and remember the fantastic lunch set menu. Even though it’s a set menu there are enough options to choose from. I choose the red miso soup, the tempura scallop hand roll and the black sesame ice cream. Then greedy as I am and because I don’t come here that often I took the Sushi & Sashimi main (also including salad and appetiser $25). As a drink we had a glass of plum wine ($8).

Now this was a great find. @ ! Restaurant (“At Restaurant”) is a Japanese restaurant in Crows Nest and has definitely scored a spot on our list of favourite places to eat in Sydney...We will definitely go again to try more of their dishes.

This guy is the real deal. Stunning morsels of precision sliced seafood that begs consumption. The “At style” nigiri sushi plate is a yummy flight of seafood. Don’t leave without trying his finest work. I mean he does hold a crazy sharp knife you know.

This is simple, well executed, well priced Japanese. In Crows Nest, which seems to have become Little Japan of the food scene over the years, this one has an advantage. And

All the things we ordered were so nomlicious. The karrage chicken was well fried and the mayo always tops it off. It was a good batch of karrage but nothing special. Though with that said, it is a bit hard to get karrage 'wrong' but how cute was the presentation of it! The Kingfish Kama was very well made. The flavours were well balanced but best of all was there was a hint of salt on the skin. When situations like such happens, all it makes me want to do is lick every single part of that fish and wish for that moment of happiness to never end.
Do yourself a favour and try the sushi here - it is a little on the pricier side but you do get what you pay for and it's well worth it!

@! Restaurant has easily shot to the top of my favourite places to dine locally and I will definitely be back to try more of its modern Japanese dishes which are served with flair.

There are a lot of great Japanese restaurants in Crows Nest, so a newcomer to the hood definitely has to bring the very best. @! Restaurant (“At Restaurant”) is the latest Japanese restaurant with Atsushi Saito at the helm. Formerly of sushi e and Sushi Choo , sushi chef Atsushi Saito has broken away from the Merivale group and is part of the team at @! Restaurant which opened in early May this year. It looks like Astro Boy has followed him from Sushi Choo as well, who sits and watches over us from a shelf. Astro boy is watching over us The restaurant is packed on a Sunday night and we manage to snag the last remaining table. The menu is a double sided A4 sheet split into entrees, salads, soups, mains as well as various sushi and sashimi options. The dishes are a mix of traditional and modern Japanese, with a focus on various types of sushi. The blackboard on the wall also has some specials for the night. Cheese gyoza – $8 My eyes are immediately drawn to the cheese gyoza which are a g

Fresh and delicious!. I ordered sashimi, tuna salad, karage chicken and spicy tuna roll. They were all very delicious and really fresh. Service was quick and tentative. We had great meal. Ill definitely come back for more.

Went here on a Saturday night. Food wasn't bad rather it was incredibly average. For the price we paid I would have expected a bit more (ended up being $50/head not including drinks). Should have taken not of the other reviews here.

At Resuarant. I'd read the reviews mentioning the poor service. I have to say the service to be fair want that bad. As we hadn't been here before we weren't sure about the menu but we ordered a sushi plate $40, 4 tempura prawns, some vegetable tempura and 4 main dishes with water to drink. The sushi and tempura were very good but not cheap, the main dishes were pretty average. The total bill came to just over $160. I have to say that I've been to a number of Japanese restaurants around the area and they have better food at more reasonable prices.

Amazing Japanese at the right price!. This is a great local find, the sushi and sashimi here is super fresh and unbelievably good for the price. We tried this place just once about a year ago and pretty much never eat Japanese anywhere else now. The service is not as quick as some other places, but when the food arrives, it is always great and I have to say, I am very happy with a short wait for food of this quality. Great spot.

Great food & service. The lunch set is great value.

Food is fantastic but service needs major improvement. They tell customers to go away 5 mins before they open because they had to clean the place. If any cleaning is to be done it should be done earlier and not turning customers away. They should be ready to greet customers instead. People skills need improvements too with the wait staff. If it's not for the food this place is not going to last with competitions right across the street that offers a nice lunch too.

Best Sushi in Sydney. Do yourself a favour, and try their lunch sets ranging from $20-$25. Great value for money, also food is absolutely amazing.

NYUM NYUM Visited this rest.... NYUM NYUM
Visited this restaurant based on the good reviews i read here.

The 4 of us ordered 60% of the entree. For main, we had the beef and salmon. None of the dishes disappointed. All the seafood and meat were fresh and beautifully done.

Highly recommended. Will visit again to try the rest of the 40% of entree..

WOW WOW & WOW. OK fella's if you truly want to get in the good books (which can be impossibly difficult for me most of the time) then this is the place to take your Mrs (or girlfriend).

Food is fantastically fresh & wonderfully tasty.

Entres we started with the roasted eggplant half and I do not know what the Chef has done to it but it was like no egg plant i have ever had before (I ate the skin as well). Beautiful velvety, sweet meat of the egg plant and actually this guy has created a new taste which let me tell you is really great. Also had a karaage chicken which being battered fried MOIST pieces of chicken. Followed by a small plate of suschi and another plate of a white fish sachiimi (I think). MMMMmm.

Then for the mains we had the Waguu (most everyone else in the restaurant did too), Tepinaki chicken (both of these you really have to get). Also had the lamb cutlets which were moist, well cooked and probably the best cutlets i have had in my life next to Nana Todd's. Next time though I would stick with the Waguu and Tepinaka and get another full on Japanese dish just to keep to the Japanese theme a bit more.

Decore -pretty alrgiht really and would not be out of place in Tokyo.

Service - a bit slow to get the glasses to the table (its a BYO and we we had our own wine and I had one of their beers as well). But once they came the food & wine service flowed well.

Japanesiallity - Japanese Chef, Japanese Waitresses, Japanese beer & beautiful beautiful Japanese food.

I am truthfully still dreaming of the food both in taste, quality, quantity (yes I am 120kg, my son 110kg and my wife is of much less proportion) and we were all full.

NB - for correct names of the dishes go to the At restaurant site (or @ Restaurant) in google.

Amazing Japanese, definitely a favourite

Exemplary Japanese food and service.. It is obvious that these people love to show off their food skills. Here we had a fabulous evening; authentic Japanese food; excellently presented and a joy to eat.
We booked a table for four 7.00 on a Sunday. We were not sure that it was necessary, but we were glad we did because when we got there the small restaurant was full of smiling Asian faces; always a good sign.
It did take a while for our orders to be taken but given that almost all the tables were full, this was understandable. Four of us had a lovely time sharing various offerings; sashimi, sushi and hot dishes. All were stunning; we had a great time.

Very high quality food, delicious sushi. Authentic Japanese touches such as having a sushi counter where the chef makes the sushi, like you typically see at high-end places in Japan. I'd read about the sushi chef's a-grade experience and the results show. I'd tend to agree with previous review that it is the best sushi on the north shore.

North Shore's best sushi. @! restaurant is my go-to place for sushi. The fish is very fresh, and the sushi chef is extremely talented. From the traditional to the more modern twists, each piece was such a delight! If I had to pick, my favourites were the scallop and semi-seared salmon. There is also a good selection of drinks. I always order the umeshu (plum liquor). Can't wait for my next visit!

Highly recommended - my favourite. Yummy and friendly Japanese restaurant in the heart of Crows Nest, very popular with Japanese customers which should count for something!
Have been there many times and never been disappointed, delicious food, freshly prepared, friendly service, reasonable prices given the high quality of the food. My personal favourite, Asari Udon, delicious! Give it a try!

Food is good quality, not cheap but not your fine dining prices either. Service however is aabsolutely terrible, our order was forgotten and it wasn't until we asked that they checked. Waited over an hour for food to come, nothing was done to say sorry or make up for their mistake. Even though the food is good, we wont be coming back.

The grilled mackerel was one of best I've had. Uni ships were fresh and flavoursome. However, at this price point, I expected good quality Japanese rice. Everything was perfect up until the bowl of rice. I could not believe such beautiful grilled mackerel was served with the below average, overly dried rice, like reheated ... please do something about the rice! You can charge more for it too.

Delicious!. With a slightly confusing name and interiors that were nothing special, I wasn't expecting to have dish after dish of mouth-watering delicacies. But the food just blew us away. We ended up ordering more because we just couldn't get enough of the flavours and wanted to try everything on the menu. Definitely one I'll be telling everyone I know about!

Crows Nest's best kept Secret?. This is a fantastic Sushi restaurant (as good as anything I've had in Japan) that's out of the way in Crows Nest. The Mackeral is so tasty. The place also has a really nice atmosphere, relaxing to sit at the counter watching the chef. Reasonable priced and the food is excellent - a real gem
