Review Bravo Trattoria - Crows Nest

Em H
This was the garlic bread. Basically two slices of sourdough bread with butter on them for $8.50. I really enjoyed their pizza last time during the lockdown but the quality was much lower this time - I know the restaurant was busy but with that quality (cheese was tasteless, tough and oily), you can’t ask $20-30 for that. Very disappointing :( , will not visit again.

Being lucky enough to have travelled to Italy, and having an Italian background, I can safely say that the food here is the closest you can get. The pizza is an absolute must! The dough has that thick and puffy texture like in Italy. You can easily tell that the tomato bases are all hand made and not out of a tin, and that the meats are of the highest quality. Obviously this level of deliciousness comes with a compromise at being a bit more expensive, but going out for me is about the experience, and this restaurant gave me a five star experience. Not to mention, after you finish eating too many slices of pizza, you can finish off with gelato with too many flavours to choose from!

Staff need to tell customers what the specials are. We dined there last night and only after sitting there waiting for our meal did we see the specials on the whiteboard? The meals we had were basic but tasty. Both of us had pasta.

Bravo Trattoria is an Italian restaurant which we stopped by for dinner on our way back to Sydney. The setting is very casual and has a very heart-warming environment. Our dining experience was excellent. The waitress that served us definitely made us feel special and was very courteous to all our needs. We ordered pasta and pizza. They taste very different, and extremely rich and creamy in texture. Later I realised that the pasta are made in house. The firmness of the pasta is just right. Not to firm, not too soggy. Very impressive. The pizza we had I must recommend for you to try is the "Rucola E Prosciutto". The cheese and the ham was just a superb taste. Cannot describe it in words... You simply have to try it if you are pizza fan. I would like to compliment our waitress at Bravo Trattoria (I should have asked her name) for her timely service and the cooks for the excellent food. I am a big fan of Italian cuisine. This restaurant is definitely one of my favourite in Sydney. The only thing I did not like about the place was that the sitting were a little tight/uncomfortable during my visit (dine in as five guests). I believe due to Covid-19 social distancing rules, tables were spread out and arranged to maximise distance between them. This may not allow Bravo Trattoria to set up comfortable large table. I hope they able to have more comfortable table which sits 4+ people in the near future as I love to bring friends too!

Everyone at our table said their meal was delicious. The pasta marinara was rated one of the best in a long life. It you are looking for quality Italian look no further...

I ordered 2 coffees yesterday to take away. One Latte with 2 sugars & one Cap with no sugar. Latte had no sugar & cap had two, what an easy order to get wrong & l also repeated it twice. Took the coffee back and another guy served me, he said easy fix. I said it was such an easy order. The guy continued to stare at me with the creepiest smile on his face. I could not wait to get Out of there! We were going to go there for dinner this week but I way am l going to the creepiest restaurant in Crows Nest!!!

We were here for lunch last Sunday. The food was mediocre, pizza too soggy and oily but the gelato was excellent. Our server was exceptional and when we went to fix up the bill with our server we gave them a tip saying it’s for them and them only so they pocketed the tip. The boss came from the restaurant to behind the counter and yells at her for pocketing the tip. We decided to sit at the park afterwards and the server walks up to us and said that’s why I don’t make much working here, low hourly rate and no tips. We sat there dumbfounded and shocked as this restaurant can have a lot of potential in being the best Mediterranean food in Crows Nest.

Amazing service and yummy food... highly recommend this place

Their pistachio gelato is to die for!! The hazelnut and coffee flavours are also very good. All the flavours were amazing - strong in flavour but not too sweet nor artificial tasting. The coffee on the other hand isn’t that great.

Pretty good food but a tad on the expensive side. Good portions though, the pizzas were large and tasty and I really enjoyed their Penne Messina. The desserts were good, and the Cheesecake was particularly nice. The gelato was nice too.

Overall the restaurant had a good vibe, but we were seated in the corner which meant little ventilation and rather dim lighting, which I wasn’t a super big fan of. I’d want to be able to read my menu without having to shine my phone torch onto it! Other than that, the staff were friendly but a bit slow to respond since it was a busy night. Will be back in the future for more of their food!

Very good ice cream. However they wouldn’t let you mix flavours (half scoop of one and half of another)
Bland and unsatisfying mains. Got a nicely cooked chicken with no flavour and a few partially boiled cubes of pumpkin.
No impressed!

One of my fave lunching spots in Crows Nest for many years now- ever since they were at their old spot now taken over by the new Woolworths! Excellent pasta, delicious gelatos and the service is always very warm and friendly

Been here many times and never disappointed. Great food and the lasagna is the best I had. Not to mention the gelato. One happy customer for sure!

I came to the restaurant with my boyfriend the other day. We had coffee and ricotta cake with pistachio ice cream. It was a warm day- we sat outside under the shades, nice and cool. It’s a relaxing place to chill, enjoy food, breeze and sunshine. The pistachio ice cream is my favourite- I have tried pistachio ice cream at a lot of restaurants but no luck. But bravo trattoria’s pistachio icecream is really rich, not too sweet, and it doesn’t have bitterness.

This is one of my favourite places in Crows Nest. I like their Pizza, Pasta and Sandwiches. Their coffee and deserts are also good. In particular I like their eggplant sandiwch, dop pizza Their staff are always friendly and provide great service. I have been going there for a few years now and never had any bad experience.

My mocha was great but the corn and zucchini fritter i had was too thick and not crispy. I felt like it was not really cooked through so was quite mushy. My friend had the same dish (but with smoked salmon) and had the same comments about the fritter. The poached eggs in my fritter was cooked beautifully though. Table service was good once we sat down although when i went in initially i actually had walked right into the restaurant, stood around waiting for someone to acknowledge i was there and not seeing anyone for a few mins i walked out again and decided to wait for my friend inside. I would have decided to go elsewhere at that point if i had not already arranged with my friend to meet there. Not a place I'd visit again unfortunately.

Just didn't quite hit the mark for me. The pizza wasn't bad, I just feel like they were very light on the toppings. I've had better pizza elsewhere.

Bravo always had a special place in my heart, I used to go all the time with my family and get beautiful traditional italian pizzas and pastas that were to die for, the price was reasonable, the restaurant was quaint and cozy, and the gelato was delicious. But then they moved to another location, and everything was just a little bit different. Prices went up, food wasn't as cozy, restaurant was more modern than classic, and gelato was just not as good. That's me being picky, I will say the food is good and I do enjoy a delicious pizza, but tread lightly on the price!

Unfortunately we did not have the best first experience at Bravo Trattoria. Started off well but after our salad and pasta arrived it went downhill. The table next to us came in and ordered after us, yet got both their pasta and pizza at the same time before us. We didn’t think our pizza would be much longer, so patiently waited but there was no sign of it for a good while. In the end it came out almost half an hour after the pasta, and this was after checking up on it two times, each time being told it was “in the kitchen”. In the meantime, the table who had arrived after us had already finished their meal and left, AND although this is technically not the restaurant’s fault, the kid on the other side of us decided to sneeze all over our table and shower us with his snot/spit on our arms and salad. Great. Not only were we waiting an excessively long time for one pizza, we get sprayed all over with spit. 😑

Food wise it averaged out to be ok. The salad was light and fresh, pizza was nice but quite difficult to keep toppings on and so much cheese, pasta definitely felt overpriced. However, the taro gelato was actually spot on with its strong taro flavour. Would recommend it.
No Guilty Pleasures
The place that got me fell in love with pasta.

I'm used to Asian food and have eaten pasta elsewhere before. But I didn't know I love pasta until the glorious Fettuccine Bosciaola I had here. Loved the creaminess and pasta texture. I'm no pasta expert but this dish keeps me reminisce.

Also, great place for group lunch/dining. Looking forward to come back!

this place becoming one of my favourite italian rest so far, pasta and risotto cooked to to perfection yey the best that ive ever had in most italian rest in syd, been to plenty fancy italian rest, but couldnt find a really well decent flavour, most of the rest lack of the flavour, some served with undercooked pasta, even the place doesnt look quite fancy, but the flavour and taste was there ,well done bravo!
Jules
I hope they never take the lobster linguine off the menu. Pasta is cooked perfectly and they give a generous amount of lobster! I think it's stated as "chilli" on the menu but I couldn't taste any - don't forget chilli oil is provided on the table. My husband got the lasagne which was the best I've had in a long time! It's best to share though as it is quite heavy just for one person. Love this neighbourhood gem. Best to book if you're in a group or coming on a Friday or Saturday.

A good option for post-dinner treats in Crows Nest as they stay open fairly late. I can never resist a creamy gelato from their impressive homemade array. The flavours I've enjoyed are taro, coffee and pistachio. The pistachio and rosewater was too sweet. A single takeaway scoop will set you back $5 while dine-in is $6. So a little on the pricey side but not outrageous for this side of the bridge. Would like to return to try the sticky date pudding.

I used to come here in high school when they had 100 kinds of pasta on the wall menu, and boy has it come a long way since then! The restaurant is now warm and cosy, with truly excellent service and an extensive menu which caters for vegans too (even dessert). The pasta was fantastic and al dente, as I like, and the pizza equally good with a base of just the right density. Side rucola salad also good. Amazing desserts and 24 gelato flavours to choose from. Including dessert it set us back about $35 a head. Located on busy Willoughby road, it faces stuff competition from other Italian eateries but I think Bravo holds it's own. Bravissimo!

Worse lasagne ever! First bite, thought to myself, "hmm this is so bland..absolutely tasteless!". I had a couple more forkfulls thinking it'll get better as I reach near the centre. Nope! Cut it open and found about 12 layers of lasagne sheets stacked on top of each other with no sauce or meat in between. There was even no trace of bechamel sauce.. just whacked on some cheese on top. I was only able to stomach the crusty cheesy bits around the edges as I was starving. $22.40 for baked lasagne sheets??? OMG! Menu stated "Lasagne - just like nonna made". Well, nonna must've only cooked lasagne sheets and called it "lasagne". I'm a home cook and can make lasagne 100x better. Don't serve food that you can't make properly! We also ordered the "salmone -
fillet of salmon w prawn & cherry tomato cream salsa" $34.90. When they brought it to the table we were just shocked. Worse food presentation I've seen. The salmon was tiny with so much sauce slapped on top that you will find it hard to see the small portion of salmon. Three vegs were slapped on the side equivalent to dining at a pub/bistro where they serve $10 meals. Potatos were overcooked... dry and charred.

Seriously, it ruined my evening. Definitely will not be returning.

Rating is for gelato only. Haven't had the chance to try anything else here. Tried the black sesame, nutella, pistachio and cumquat. Loved every flavour. Might even go as far as saying that it was the best pistachio gelato I've ever had. Not as many flavour options as messina and cow and moon, nor any crazy new flavour combinations but I appreciate when classics are done well.

I come here for the gelato. After dinner mint is so good. Take away is cheaper. Service at the restaurant is friendly. Food was average, not bad but definitely not spectacular.

Bravo Trattoria has been my favourite Pizza restaurant in the North Shore for the past year but………..

The initial reason I loved this restaurant was because the Pizzas were similar to Via Napoli but better because their base was just firm enough to hold the toppings, an area where Via failed. Now, sadly it's fallen into the same category. The base is simply too sloppy from the juices of the topping. Granted, if you order toppings that release juices, your going to get soggy bases but this is no excuse when other top pizza restaurants can overcome this. Furthermore, the topping of my second pizza were all dry so there was no possibility for a soggy base but still I couldn't manage to hold it. Besides the first two times here, every other time has been the same quality.

Tonight was busy and we booked in advance. We ordered 2 pizzas.

The Bravo - Hot salami, anchovies, tomato, olives and basil. The crispy, soft and chewy crust reflected a good dough but as mentioned before the base was very sloppy and wet. The toppings were not evenly spread but the flavour was good.

Gamber e Rucola - Prawns, rocket, garlic and chilli. The flavour was good but again, the toppings were carelessly spread and there was once piece with nothing but cheese on it. Also, for the price, there wasn't enough prawns.

I follow their Facebook page and just wish they put as much effort into their pizza as they do on their specials they display there. After coming here so many times and having so much inconsistency in the pizza, it could only point to the pizza chef.

The waitresses they employ however, do always provide excellent and sincerely friendly service which is a credit to management and the owner is always friendly and polite too.

I've been meaning to try this restaurant ever since it opened up a couple of years ago. I used to enjoy my experience of going to their previous Crows Nest location before it had to shut down.
I finally went there on a Saturday night and even though I hadn't booked (naughty me!), the staff quickly seated me. The waitresses and their service was excellent! I had cannelloni which arrived in good time, and it was delicious!
All in all, a very good experience both, from a food perspective as well as service.

We wanted a take away pizza. My friend is vegan so we enquired if they could leave cheese off half of it and the answer was no. I thought this was just a tad ridiculous. Is it really that difficult? Luckily there are numerous other pizza establishments in the same vicinity.

I really really liked this place growing up when it was the homey establishment next to where Woolworths used to be.

The gelato is still really good! But I'm a little on the rocks about the food. It's not poor, but there is quite a bit of competition on the road and yet, it doesn't seem too much different.

Service isn't spectacular (given that it's always so busy), but everyone at the restaurant is really friendly and obliging.

A few highlights here: Risotto Pescatore, Feijoa gelato, Gnocchi Gorgonzola.

Had dinner here at bravo trattoria last week. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the sauce and fresh seafood meant this is now my favourite Italian place! I've been to a few in leichardt and prior, my favourite was Jamie's kitchen in the city. Even my friend who had the vegetarian pasta which I tasted had a pretty good sauce and perfectly cooked pasta. The pizza (can't remember which one but it had chili in it) had a stretchy and Chewy flour base just like pizza should have.

We had the dessert which was quite nice but I think a tad expensive.

Service was all smiles and helpful all night so can't complain there!

Value decent as well, and although busy on a Wednesday night it wasn't busy enough to be in an annoyingly long queue.

What I really should be writing is that this restaurant is crap and stay away! Stay away so I don't have to queue up for this awesome restaurant ;-).

The gelato is to die for ! Had the salted caramel and it was the perfect balance between salty and sweet. Also had a vege sandwich that was excellent!

Great Gelato, awesome Arrabiata... Great staff!
Give the pasta and gelato a go and see if you don't end up with a smile on your face because your taste buds and stomach are happy!
# Arrabiata and Gelato...
# Bravo = Belly Bonus...

Authentic and not at all generic, unlike other "Mctalian" restaurants that we've been to. Been coming here since they've opened, maybe 8-9x already. Never a fail, hits the nail on the head every time. Owner and staff members are always attentive and pleasant, good customer service. Try their Gelato, it's just as good Messina!

Gelato is amazing, food not so good. Love going here for dessert. The gelato is amazing, especially the salty caramel. But unfortunately the one time I went here for dinner, it was disappointing - we had a calzone (way too cheesy, and I love cheese) and a pasta (which was a bit bland). But that may just be our tastes...

Poor experience. Indifferent attitude. I took my 2 daughters here for an end of term celebration dinner tonight. We have dined here several times and also supported when bravo was in Falcon Street. We are also regular takeaway and gelateria customers. The fillet steak, dop pizza and salad were all very nice however the 3 pastas were awful, bland, boring and just unpleasant. I had to flag down the waitress to ask to change my dish (I had swapped my fillet steak with my daughters penne as she could not eat it). When I. Tried the penne, I also could not eat it and simply wanted to order another steak. I was told this was not possible as the kitchen was too busy and I think the waitress was suggesting I should just eat the penne that I was not enjoying. I explained that I did not care about. The money but just wanted a dish I could enjoy. I ordered the spaghetti chianti which I have had several times before however it too was horrible and I did not eat it.
The bottom line was that nobody cared or bothered to check with us to find out what the issue was. I also had to clear our own table and go over to the wait station to get menus so we could order dessert. Food and service was very slow all night. When I wrnt to pay the bill on departure, the man (who sadly appeared to be in charge) simply advised that they had deducted "a pasta" from the bill. I asked if he knew what the problem was and he said he did not. Even then, he did not bother to ask. Or apologise.
I am really disappointed to recieve such a poor and uncaring experience from a local restuarant I have. Supported and recommended for years. It was easy for the staff to see that I was celebrating with my daughters however we felt that we were an inconvenience to them. . We will not return.

We opted to have ice cream at Bravo Trattoria , just a couple of doors down from Pino's. A little expensive - 2 scoops for $6.80, but the gelato's great. Had 1 scoop of taro and 1 scoop of ferrero rocher, which were delicious in their own right - but probably not the best combination to have side by side :/
Bad Table Manners
The creme brulee received a lot of love, but I enjoyed the gelatos most.

I went to Bravo Trattoria at Crows Nest on Saturday to celebrate my friend Sammy’s birthday. The two-level restaurant had a typical Italian restaurant atmosphere – perfect for couples, families and large groups. Peter and I ordered a classic meatball pasta dish – Spaghetti Polpette and Linguine Frutti di Mare, a seafood pasta. The servings were generous and they provided a good amount of fresh seafood. I also tasted some of the entrées that we shared as a group – Calamari Fritti and a traditional Garlic Pizza. Sammy’s girlfriend organised a cake for him all the way from Darwin- she is currently there working at the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA). But as the restaurant had its own gelateria, we were unable to cut the cake at their premises. The group came up with Plan B to surprise Sammy with the cake and convinced him to drop by at my place where we surprised him with ‘Bombe Alaska’ gelato cake from Gelato Messina. As the cake is finished with an Italian meringue, i

More than just take-away gelato, this restaurant offers some hearty pasta dishes that will satisfy.

After dinner and in need of a sweet fix, we wander up the road and around the corner to, where else but, Bravo Trattoria for some gelato. Except by the time we get there, Mistress and I are both distracted by the prospect of cannoli that we forget about g

I'm no expert on gelato but I have yet to find better gelato on the North Shore than the gelato at Bravo Trattoria. This, I think, can be confirmed by the queues at the gelato bar on Friday and Saturday nights, even in the midst of winter!

Below Average. If I was Italian and owned this place I would be ashamed. My girlfriend had the lasagna which had very little meat. I've had better frozen pizzas. Avoid

Poor service. We had takeaway. The food was good but my husband and I both had gnocchi and mine was half full. When I complained the managed insinuated that I was lying as the meals always have the same gnocchi amounts. Terrible customer service when all I was doing was letting him know for future. Made ne feel terrible and ruined an otherwise good meal.

Never order from bravo online, simply atrocious!. Ordered gnochhi, salad and their supposedly famous gelato. The gnocchi was bland and saltless, the salad had no dressing and very little provided for the absurd price, and the gelato was simply disgusting; they didn't even give the right flavours (just perhaps what was not selling). Never again!!!!

Loved it!. Went here late night last Friday. The pizza was cooked to perfection (great size too) and the dessert was huge and delicious! Well worth every cent.

Management treated us like school children! DO NOT GO HERE! There are better places nearby!. We decided to try this place after an evening with friends. My fiancé and I walked in and ordered a bottle of water and decaf latte eat in, and were also thinking about ordering some dessert to finish off a great evening. I will never, recommend, or go near this place again. All review websites have similar experiences to mine below.

However, the barista misheard us and thought we were getting takeaway. We sat at the entrance, and then decided to move further into the restaurant as there was a breeze, one of the wait staff sat us at the new table (who was in fact very friendly). I am thoroughly disappointed with how the MANAGER behind the counter treated us. As well as the the head waiter.

The manager was EXTREMELY rude, and disrespectful when we sat at the empty table.

Here's why: with the coffee taking longer than normal, I went to inquire about where our coffee was. He told me, actually more like commanded, that we sit at the table we were originally at because it was takeaway. I have never, ever, been treated like this as a paying customer - it was as if we were school children! I am many many years out of school... Who on earth treats customers like this?!

To make matters worse, when I returned to the table my fiancé saw the polite waiter who seated us be lambasted by the head waiter. Pointing at your paying customers and demanding that your wait staff ask them to leave because they ordered coffee... I am absolutely furious about how we were treated. And looking at other survey's below on this site, it seems the management staff needs a serious overhaul as this is certainly not the first time they have treated customers badly. DO NOT GO NEAR THIS PLACE! Can not believe how we were treated...!

To the polite waiter, thank you. If you weren't forced to ask us to leave we would have tipped you very generously because of your kindness.

Owner is lovely. Have been going to Bravo's since before they moved to their new location - the owner is super lovely and I can never go past their coconut gelato! Woodfire pizza is delicious and love the family owned business vibe (you can sometimes see the owner's dad behind the counter).
Andrea Delapozza
Atrocious, ordered a garlic pizza for entrée, burnt and no garlic. My main was ok, but my partner's spaghetti dish was horrible. There is al dente and there is raw ... The tomato sauce was undercooked - seeing it was terrible, tasting it was worse. Called attending staff and advised sauce is not cooked. Staff member - who turned out to be the proprietor - responded that sauce was cooked for 5 hours in the morning, right ... I asked for the cheque and a take away container to take my half eaten meal (my partner wasn't interested to eat raw pasta with raw sauce) and got the response 'get the f¥#% out of my restaurant, the meal is on me'. I gladly took the opportunity (not without taking the opportunity to inform him about his low-life status as a looser an wanker) but my partner was stunned and she only got up when told 'to f¥#% off', really classy. Just walk 50 yards up or down the road and you'll find two really good Italian restaurants with friendly device.
Julie
Gnocchi Granchio. This is my favourite dish of all time. I haven't been able to go past it for about two years! The gelato at Bravo is sensational too. We love the Taro. They're always happy for you to taste different flavours. The staff are friendly and hospitable. The owners know us and we feel like part of the family. Love, love, love Bravo

Small servings, bland pizza. We dined inhouse not long ago and thought it was quite good, so with my wife 36 weeks pregnant we decided to get takeaway to satisfy her pasta craving. Big mistake and bitterly disappointed. Serving of pasta was child like in size, pizza was doughy and bland and the whole lot was over priced. We won't be back.

Lovely lunch. Attentive service and kid friendly, had a nice vibe for Sunday lunch. Had the chicken haloumi salad with pesto and potato, which i found fresh and filling for a salad.
Lou
Have the burger. It's delicious.

Stumbled across this and had a great experience. Food was fresh and high quality and the service was impeccable. Would go back and recommend to anyone!

Had been here before and enjoyed the food. Booked a table two days in advance and upon arriving they did not have our table for five ready. There were two tables for five that were reserved, but instead they pulled a small table from outside and sat us right in the middle of the thoroughfare. Then as we were settled they decided to remove a table and squish us all onto one table. We all felt like second class citizens. Not too happy... They clearly forget about us.

I used to visit this place for gelato but after discovered a mould on my cheese cake that I took away from Bravo. I stopped going there. Bad experience. I never try the food though.

The desert menu here is delicious.

We visited Bravo for an after dinner ice cream for my 3yr old. The manager harassed us because we paid for a takeaway cup instead of dine in. It was cold outside and we wanted to eat in. We didn't mind paying extra to sit at a table, but objected to having to move our partially eaten icecream scoop to a glass bowl. The manager was rude to us, frightened my son and refused to talk to us because we were upset. NEVER GO HERE AGAIN.
Karen
Before theatre dinner. Good spot for a meal before going to the Enmore - Just let them know you have limited time. The food is generally good, but the service is always lacking. I wouldn't go here unless it was before a show, but it is one of the better options for the area

Bravo to Bravos Trattoria. My regular! Everything on the menu is good. The prices are reasonable & the atmosphere is great. You cant go & finish your meal without trying their gelato - amazing!

No fuss, authentic, tasty Italian fare. Excellent, friendly service. Will be back for more gelato!
