Finally get to to try this place. Many people told me how good this is. Oh boy they are right. The photo you see here, is Polish lunch. It consists of a bowl of soup and 3 pierogi (there are a few soup and pierogi choices). I had the sauerkraut soup with potato cheese onion and bacon pierogi. Tell you what, I can drink that soup by the gallon. The pierogi is lovely.

Easier say, everything is spot on and very nice. If you happen to be in the area, definitely worth the try!

Such a cute bakery! I got the peorogi which is my favourite polish dish , the goulash , the Reuben and the chicken royal! It gets really busy but the service is quite fast

Peirogi is so good , I love the cheese and potato the best . The goulash is very hearty , the Reuben is a bit soggy due to the homemade sauerkraut cabbage and needs more pastrami . The chicken royal was amazing !

Edit: Had the Rueben sandwich today. Very delicious, fresh, and homemade but definitely a variation of the traditional Rueben sandwich as it has cooked cabbage/sauerkraut (bigos) rather than your traditional sauerkraut. I still enjoyed it, and found it incredibly tasty. Super fresh bread, and for $9.50 is a total bargain. Was full and satisfied after.

What a cute little authentic Polish bakery, and in Dandenong of all suburbs! Polish Rye Crust Bakery offers traditional homemade Polish fare at such a reasonable price, and affords eat in breakfast and lunch options, sweets and savouries, deli cuts, bread loaves, and decent coffee. What can't they do?! I tried the coffee and homemade cheesecake on my visit. The cheesecake was absolutely exceptional, tasting deliciously homemade, fresh, and of balanced flavours. I am so keen to come back and try out the savoury lunch options, specifically the Polish specialities! Keep up the awesome work Polish Rye!

Drop by and make a sandwich/roll of your own preference. Great fillings and bread options, costs around $9 but is a large size and well worth it

I dropped in here this morning for a t/a espresso coffee. This place was bloody hard to find but I got there eventually... or maybe it was just my driving hahaha

The service was good, the coffee was alright too. I didn’t get a chance to eat there today but the pastries, bread and small goods looked really good.

Hold that thought... I’ll be back lol

LIT!: we ordered a sandwich and a reuban sandwich for $9.50 which was an incredible deal considering it fed 2 people. It was very filling and it was so juicy but the rye bread was far from soft.

NOT SO LIT: the vanilla slice was such a let down. The base top and bottom was so hard that we could not break through the top. It didn't taste fresh either, we left 3/4 of it. Super disappointed with the cake but wouldn't mind coming back for the sandwich

This is what I’ve been looking for quite some time now, a lovely beautiful gourmet ,wholesome food, huge portion and no pretentious. I am hesitant to walk in at first when I arrive but I’m glad I did. (The front shop does not look like most trendy cafes I’ve seen but hey never judge book by its cover right 😉).

The ladies are so accommodating and caring. That makes me feel like I eat foods from my aunties at home. I just love the feel.

The food ..... real wholesome food , delicious and bangs for the bucks. No edible flowers, no molecular gastronomy stuffs, no edible foam, none of those scientific cooking methods. JUST REAL FOOD over here. Coffee is decent but huge! I enjoy my long black tough.

All in all, I do love his cafe very much and will return again soon. Highly highly recommended 👍

Part of me doesn't want to write such a positive review because as it stands now we can just get a table on a Saturday morning.  The more people that discover this place, the busier it will get.  That being said it's such a wonderful bakery it's simply too good not to praise online.  We were told of Polish Rye Crust through our butcher in Boronia (Fleisher's - exceptional continental butcher by the way) as we purchase our dark German rye from there which, is delivered by this business.  I could sit here and write many paragraphs about how wonderful the food is, how fair the prices are, how warm and friendly the service is or how just goddamn outstanding their baked goods are.  But rather than rant on and on I would simply encourage you to go and check it out yourself.  I drive almost an hour to get here and it's worth every minute.  I've only come here 3 times so far with my mother for breakfast but we already feel like regulars.  We rarely leave without a few full bags and will no doubt make our way through the entire menu in time.  Being from German heritage I can tell you that bakeries like this just don't exist in Melbourne.  Get down there and see it for yourself, but perhaps not on a Saturday morning so I can still get a seat!

Ordered:
1. Sauerkraut soup - was too salty for me but then sauerkraut is meant to be salty so I should of expected that, it’s comes with bread and butter which was nice
2. Original Cheese cake - average
3. Coffee - very good coffee

Will I go back: yes, it’s seems that their sandwich and baked breads are popular items and I’ll try those next time

Super friendly staff. My only issue - TEABAGS IN POTS!!!!! PLEASE use tea leaves.

OMJesus can this small hidden gem deliver a crackin' sandwich!!! SO much more than a bakery - a polish treasure if you will. Chicken Snitz & pan fried gnocchi are TO DIE FOR - seriously the best I’ve ever had. For the love of all things Polish & amazing food in general, head down to this Dandenong delight for some traditional, home cooked, honest & flavourful Polish food. Service was warm & friendly, it gave you that 'I'm part of a polish family' vibe. Pleaseeee open longer hours, I would be there 24/7! Love love love!!! Ps - coffee it smick too - winning!!!

Another gem in the suburbs; the Reuben sandwich might not be super photogenic, but the flavours are totally amazing! Beautiful rye that was toasted with the right amount of crunch vs the chewiness of the bread itself. The pastrami was thinly sliced and flavoursome (without being too salty), the pickles also offer a change in texture when otherwise the sandwich may have gotten a bit heavy halfway through. The bigos on top is also delicious, and with the melted cheese, this really is just perfection in a sandwich.

Also try any of their baked goods as well, their pretzel is to die for!! The bagels are also as good as any you'll find in New York and even taste great eaten plain (sign of great baked goods).

It's totally worth driving to and stocking up on items. Plus, prices are totally reasonable!

I can't say enough about the polish bakery.
The Reuben sandwich is simply the best, full of what seemed like home made sauerkraut.
Huge choices of wonderful crusty and grain filled bread. I'm slowly trying them all.  The pretzels & salt sticks are incredible. The dark bagel filled with cream cheese is the perfect breakfast.  Yet to try the pierogi  as I never seem to time it right.
It's so worth the trip from the inner city. The coffee is wonderful, as are the staff.

There are not many places that make me want to rush back right away, especially a bakery/cafe and certainly not one in Dandenong. Will definitely be hurrying back to have the bagels again and lots of other new goodies.
Our party of 4 + 1 little human had all of the following for $70:
-4 bagels with various fillings (1 plain)
-Mushroom Gnocchi
-Vegetarian Perogi
-Danish with poppyseed mix
-4 coffees (VERY generous sizing)

What a discovery!!!

SERVICE: 6/5!
Blown away by the service by every single person here! I could tell from speaking to one of the ladies to make a reservation the night before, we were in for a delightful brekkie. There is just too much to articulate here on the service we experienced during our hour-long stay. You just have to go and experience it for yourself. I would happily pay double the prices to support such a business who understand traditional customer service.

FOOD: 4.5/5
Everything we had was thoroughly enjoyed and the only reason why it wasn't a 5, is based on personal preference on flavour. They are slight things though like the sourness of the jam inside the danish, or more seasoning would've made the perogi and gnocchi absolutley perfect. I dare say it was made and served exactly how it should in Poland.

The menu is extensive and EVERYTHING looked delectable. Even still, they had no issues whipping me up a tailored bagel filling due to my dietary requirements.
Gnocchi was also a great surprise, for around $10, the serving size was very generous. Gnocchi were pillowy soft and made in store.

DECOR & AMBIENCE: 5/5
Quaint and kitsch! Front and centre are the fresh baked goods and menu choices that cover every inch of the wall. Table setting and seating adorned with traditional tapestry was a lovely touch.

KID FRIENDLY: Yes, small dining area and no high chairs however they are very welcoming of children and even recommended what she may like to eat.

Went here on a Saturday brunch with gf due to the reviews and wanting to try Polish food which i have never had before. Ordered the pierogi 6 dumplings and asking 2 of each flavour (cheese, potato/vegetable/meat) and the Reuben sandwich. The menu on zomato has to be updated as its actually $12.50 for the dumplings. Pierogi was very tasty and the reuben was great for the two of us to share. Would definitely return to try some other things or if anyone could recommend further dishes.

After videoing a RACIST RANT on the main drag of Dandenong, the Whippeteers walked around a corner to the "Polish Rye Crust Bakery."

How was? Simply a delight.  A wonder.

We sampled a PRETZEL $2.50 and  SALT STICK $1.20.  Both were SUBLIME.
Great friendly, happy, cheeky service.  Must TAKE FRIENDS BACK!

Ps the RACIST RANTER said she doesn't mind if we put it on TV.
Pps The CARAWAY flavor of the salt stick maybe not for everyone.

This little bakery is a true gem, offering excellent deli meats, breads and polish fair. Staff are super friendly. I ordered some pierogis and a beef stew. The pierogis were excellent but the stew didnt have much meat in it. I have had their bagels before and they are awesome. Just as good as new york. Great service and ok value i would definately come back.

We tried this bakery out on a Monday for lunch and it was fairly busy. The service was very good where we were greeted first thing by friendly staff who were really patient with us since we were a bit indecisive about what we wanted.

We ordered a variety of things which included the beef goulash soup, vegetarian pierogi and the reuben sandwich.

The beef goulash was served with both rye and wholemeal bread and a serve of butter. The soup was very flavorsome with a variety of homely vegetables and a good amount of beef running through it. We both agreed that the rye bread was better than the wholemeal but both were very nice. Personally I didn't really like the butter, it tasted a bit like margarine.

The vegetarian pierogi contains potato, cheese and spinach with a thick layer of pastry. The texture was great and I loved how it wasn't like a traditional Chinese dumpling, I felt though the dumpling was slightly a bit bland and I think there was maybe a bit too much potato ratio but overall I enjoyed the flavours of it, just a bit more cheese would've helped.

The reuben we ordered was our favorite for the day. It was a very big sandwich though, but when sharing it was the perfect size. Something which I haven't had before in a reuben was little pieces of sausage cut up which was a nice variation.

Overall this is a great spot in Dandenong with a homely touch if you choose to dine in. Not your typical bakery but well worth trying.

The cheesecakes were well made if you like the baked variety. I preferred the sour cherry cheesecake. The squidgy, tart cherries was a nice accent to the otherwise 'background' flavour of the vanilla cheesecake. However, I'd be more interested in going back to try their savoury dine-in options.

If this little café were located in an easily accessible inner city suburb it would be constantly packed with customers. It is located on busy Foster Street with very limited parking but is still worth the effort of getting there.
There is a selection of delicious looking cakes and pastries, home made bread, a salad bar and a small deli section. Everything looks fresh. My ham and salad sandwich was fresh, light and zingy. The rye bread was lovely. You can sit down or take away and one day I'd like to try one of their soups with some pierogi (dumplings) for the lunch time special.

Polish Rye Crust Bakery in the heart of Dandenong sells pretzels. Babka, pierogi, baguette’s, cakes and more, most of which are made fresh on the premises. The bread is made with the kind of patience and attention that most foodies only dream of, using starter culture more than a century old.

Surrounded by lots of Indian shops and eateries, this Polish bakery is a refreshing little gem!  Staff are friendly, warm and welcoming- a very homely feel indeed.  A large group of us (about ten of us) visited for lunch during a busy period and staff went out of their way to accommodate us all as best they could!  The food is extraordinary!  So many exotic pastries, which even our Polish friend said tasted authentic too.  Great range of main meals too- my salmon salad (probably not the best thing to order at a bakery, but hey) was pretty good too.  Generous portions all round, come very hungry!

Sweets that are not Asian!. Dandenong is a great place for bakeries that sell exotic pastries. Middle Eastern, fk yeah!, tonnes of Indian sweets (I'm not so keen on those) and lots of Chinese influence in some bakeries. So really, it's a traditional European bakery like Polish Rye Crust that's the odd one out in Afghandenong. I'm always looking for something different to have with macchiatos from my fancy Italian espresso machine at home, which is why I popped in here after reeling at the high prices for baklavas at A1 Bakery around the corner. Polish Rye Crust had some good-looking slices, cheesecakes, biscuits and other Euro-style pastries.

What caught my eye most was the whimsical cream-filled swan, which is made from a puff pastry cut in half to form a set of wings, with a curlicue of baked dough set into the pastry cream like a swan's neck. They even dot it with a bit of icing to form the eyes. It's a bit dear at $5, but you gotta pay for pastry art. I was still pleased to walk out with that, a cream eclair ($4), some chocolate balls and a cookie made of cornflakes and sultanas for a total of $15. The chocolate balls ($2 apiece) merit special mention. They're made with a soft cookie-doughis interior that contains soft dried fruit (I think it was apple) and chunks of English walnuts -- more complex and interesting than they appear from the outside. I'd buy those again!

I visited this place twice last week and enjoyed the food and atmosphere.

I tried the perogie, goulash & vanilla slice. All were very tasty. The perogie was a bit overpriced for 6 pieces but it was very filling. Coffee was great and cakes were delicious. I'll definitely be back to try more.

Service was excellent and it was clear that the staff prides themselves on the food. You can tell there was a lot of effort and love put into creating them.

Best Bakery By Far. Need a sausage roll? A pie? No? A slice of devilish cake? Sandwich, rolls, bread made to your liking? Imagine bacon stuffed into your croissant in amounts that are not subway. Maybe something heavier? A hearty soup and crusty bread? Beef Lasagna? Polish Dumplings? Decent coffee with proper large sizes not the fake large cups. Very friendly Husband and Wife team always very accomodating to your needs. Food is delicious, prices are amazing! Oh banana bread. Bite into their banana bread for an explosive banana experience and wash it down with a nice coffee.....

Nice bread, helpful staff. On a journey out to Dandenong my partner and I were delighted to come across a European bakery that is strangely surrounded by a lot of Indian restaurants and boutiques. No matter, the staff were very helpful when we asked about the various rye breads. We bought one and also a pretzel and a bagel. I still prefer Aviv in Elsentwick's bagel but they were all pretty good and quite reasonably priced. We will be back to try some of the other breads.

The beef goulash served with bread was a real winner and very hearty. The dumplings were also great - filled with potato and fresh. We also shared a Reuben sandwich which was quite large and again tasted great. The coffee also isn't too bad. If cakes are you're thing then drop in as they had heaps to choose from. Homemade sausage rolls were also looking tops. Cheap, cheerful and quick - I highly recommend!
