Service is nice! Meals are fast! We ordered chickatsu don and chicken don. Both come with omelette on top which was pretty new to me. The rice is a bit soggy but the chicken pieces are done right! Price is quite ok for Japanese lunch. Their salmon aburi is fantastic, I enjoyed dit very much! Thanks to Xihuahua š¶ for changing up the lunch plan againš
+3 standard points for food
+1 variety of sashimi like nowhere else
Noise level: quiet.
Japās table is really worth a try if you enjoy chirashi don. The head chef is serious about his food and it shows! The fish is sliced well, and is sweet.
Iām personally not a fan of ramen, but itās quite good here! The noodles are firm and each broth has a unique twist.

Service is polite and venue is small but comfy. They have a section with low tables and floor seating too.
Came across this cosy and cute little Japanese restaurant near Redfern station and it delivered. The sashimi tasted fresh and their mains were amazingly good. The staff know their stuff and even miso soup is cheap (only $1). If youāre looking for casual dining without the price tag and quality Japanese food then check out Japās table!
Honestly a fantastic hidden gem! Popular at lunch times with the uni crowd and it's clear why - the value for money is fantastic (would recommend the salmon don +2 pieces of nigiri for $12).
The nigiri that comes with the lunch options is unusual (looks pressed) - but every time I come here I'm thoroughly impressed with its freshness and flavour!
The service is wonderful and attentive and their salmon don is the best I've had - rice and salmon are perfectly seasoned. My partner loved their curry don (they use chargrilled chicken which lends a delicious smokey flavour).
Went here for dinner tonight - quaint little Japanese place with floor seating like in Japan and regular tables. Traditionally dressed Japanese lady serving and very sweet and nice demeanour. A cold towel to freshen up was a nice touch. We ordered a sashimi salad which was fresh lettuce, seaweed, and fresh kingfish, salmon and tuna sashimi. It also had a bit of tofu and a sesame dressing. Very nice. Hubby got the eel sushi which was also very good and also an asahi. Great spot for Japanese / they also serve edamame, agedashi tofu, ramen and don bowls.
Cute, cosy Japanese joint. The only downer is that it's very smoky because of the yakitori. The tatami seating is a nice touch, especially great for people who aren't too comfortable sitting cross-legged - there's a hole underneath so you can dangle your feet normally. The chicken katsu and egg on rice was tasty, the gyoza was great, the chicken yakitori also good. Only the agedashi tofu was a bit too heavy-handed with soy sauce in its broth for me. Note that's it's BYO only, otherwise there are just light beverages.
Great local japanese restaurant. Tasty food especially the teriyaki chicken don and chicken skewers. Sushi rolls are highly recommended especially aburi salmon. Green tea icecream is a slight disappointment.
loved it. got a banquet from the nice chap serving us (birthday, 10 top) he picked everything, kept our vegan friends ( 3 of em) happy with the best meal they've had in a restaurant in ages. BYO keep the costs down (beer and wine), generous above average sushi but thought the pork belly dish was only OK. good atmosphere too.
Fabulous service, quirky and ambient decor, and delicious comfort Japanese food. I have recently left Darlington, and miss this as my local go-to for dinner! Try the chicken skin & pork belly skewers (with sauce), the tokyo ramen, and the donburi are always a winner. Easy to eat comfortably for $25 - $30 per person, and I'm a piggy so it's always great to be full at the end of a meal for under $50!
I don't think I can rave about this place any more than I have, really. Despite my initial remarks on the challenging nature of cooking Japanese food, stay tuned for my next blog post about kyaraben (character lunchbox)! Google that one ;)

The yakitori was definitely the winning dish, super fresh of the grill. Essentially it is a chicken skewer but they use the WHOLE chicken, you can get breast, thigh, liver, heart, and giblet. We went with the safe bet of thigh. They were simple, well cooked and had the perfect amount of sauce. I think we both regretted not ordering more!
Iād walked past this Japanese restaurant countless times and read many good reviews until finally we gave it a go. Al and I were looking for brunch and he was not particularly excited about the cafes in the area. He wanted more meat. Japās Table offers the typical sushi, sashimi and donburis, but what I really wanted to try was their yakitori . The chicken skewers come in 4 varieties: breast , thigh , skin and heart . We ordered two of each. Thighs, breast, and skin yakitori ($2.80 each) All the skewers were delicious. My favourites were the hearts and the thighs, the skin next and finally the breast. Just because itās not as juicy as the other bits. Heart yakitori ($2.80 each) We also had miso soup and a seaweed salad . Good soup, good big salad except for the vegetable oil in the dressing. Iād prefer a touch of sesame oil instead. Miso soup Seaweed salad It wasnāt a super filling meal but it was nice and service was very friendly. Will be back. Japās Table 245 Abercrombie St Darlingt
Jap's Table is a great little place. The food is delicious, simple and flavoursome (and reasonably priced too). I'm glad I have this so close to my work - a little bit of Jap's Table helps break up the dreary work week in the cubicle farm.

Simple Japanese street food dishes in a simple setting. Yakitori Alley arrives in Redfern, all it needs is a few drunkenĀ salary men.
Excellent. Japanese-owned and -operated Jap's Table does decent home-style Japanese cuisine at a reasonable pricey or slightly pricier than the average Japanese restaurant in, say, Chatswood. The ambience is relaxed; the staff are lovely. The Engrish / Ingurisshu and the spelling errors are a plenty but that adds to the charm of this little, cosy eatery.
Jap's Table also has a nihonma, replete with fusuma and tatami, for little dinner parties. If your dining companions or other diners have no experience with this sort of thing, it is always fun to watch them negotiate with this change from your bar table or Western dinner table, too.
The food at Jap's Table is generally great, but the variety is rather limited and the food is a little dearer than some other nearby Japanese options and, of course, those located in the Lower North Shore. However, with your usual staples (or at least izakaya staples, though no alcohol is actually sold here), you should be good to go and you will thank yourself for trying Jap's Table.
We would recommend Jap's Table, in particular the oyakodon and the plain salmon and tuna sushi. There are also interesting yakitori (e.g., heart muscle, skin), a strength of Jap's Table, for adventurous diners.
Dinner. This is about the fifth restaurant on this site in three years, and i hope they stay. We ate like kings for $30 each - actually that felt a little steep but the food was great. Very fresh, came fast, and both classic japanese and unusual items. Wild mushroom soup, big seaweed salad, sashimi nice and fresh. Some simple and delicious crossover items like grilled corn. Delicious miso soup served with chicken skin as a surprise starter.
The women running it are super efficient, friendly and no-nonsense.
Cheap traditional yummy Japanese. I've been this restaurant's biggest fan since it opened an I always look for excuses to bring friends here before/after uni. I love the dons in the cute hexagonal boxes which are only $9 with free miso soup. I recommend the salmon don (lots of salmon sashimi on sesame seaweed rice) and the charcoal chicken don (prefer without covered egg as the chicken and rice become soggy). Udon is alright, don is better choice imo. I also like to buy some sushi pieces when I walk past on the way to redfern station from uni.. $2.50 per piece with free takeaway miso soup. My fav are the semi-raw beef and tuna ones. The restaurant itself is very open and pretty much doesn't have a wall on the street side. A novelty is the traditional seating area where you take your shoes off and walk up the steps to a raise wooden platform with mats to sit on.
Great food, fantastic service. We love Jap's Table! We'll eat there at least once a week. Simply menu, fantastic service, fresh ingredients :)
Great yakitori. Not many places in Sydney do good yakitori but this is definitely one of them!
Tasty food and very reasonable. Will definitely go back.
The food here was realy good but the service was really slow and they forgot to bring us one of the dishes we ordered
Great food and great service ! Try the salmon - yum!
