Went there for lunch, the place is beautifully furnished and has a great ambience. The staff are helpful and attentive. The food is superb and is brought out at reasonable intervals. We took advice on which sake to have with each type of food. There is also a reasonable selection of Japanese beers. Expensive but no complaints!
Spent dinner on NYE at Sakana. It was absolutely beautiful and soooo tasty. Each dish was unique and came out quite fast. It was a set menu for the day instead of the regular a la carte menu. The NYE set menu included 5 courses @ $160 pp.

I was a bit worried but it was absolutely divine and I loved every course! The only pictures I remembered to take before digging in!
Delicious food with lovely Japanese flavours, lovely setting and good service. Unfortunately serving sizes are tiny. Like fine dining course size tiny so if you are hungry and intend to fill up, expect to pay close to 200AUD. I am a very small eater in general (read kid-sized portions) and I was still hungry, which almost never happens.
My husband and I are here on a recent trip to Daylesford after our wedding.
We went for the banquet option. Both of us were impressed by the quality, flavour and presentation of all of the food we ate. Service was fantastic, although it seemed like a pretty quiet night.
Overall we were very surprised to have such a wonderful Japanese dining experience in Daylesford. We definitely will be returning if the opportunity arose.
Absolutely amazing! We had the banquet they were able to cater for pescatarian and we loved every dish. The service was perfect, wine choices lovely and exceptional tea. Thank you
What a beautiful experience! We got a last minute reservation last night at Kadota Restaurant - the atmosphere made us feel very much at home and on their menu they explained the history and meaning behind some of their ornaments. It was nice to see so much attention to detail.
The food itself was also very delicious - the first couple dishes weren’t super outstanding but still tasted good. We really enjoyed the Akita-Komachi rice, it had some really unique toppings. And the Wagyu was superb! It was a shame we were a little full at that point.
Overall a great experience. Thank you for making our night :)
Amazing Japanese here in the ❤️of Daylesford. Passionate chef and staff. Decor is amazing and food is next level. You must try this when here. 10 stars! ⭐️ Aaron head chef is beyond a master of his craft. We came back for our 6 year wedding anniversary and we can’t not say how grateful we are for what we experienced, the energy, the passion and the experience.
The food here is next level amazing. The flavours, textures and delicate touches make this a one of a kind restaurant. A must try for all locals and visitors of Daylesford.
Had dinner at Kadota and it was understated and spectacular from start to finish. The Attica of rural Victoria! Every dish and pairing is thoughtful and elegant, the flavours are subtle but striking. Every staff member was a joy to interact with. Looking forward to the next time I dine here!

I've dined at a lot of fine dining places around the world (Michelin starred and otherwise) and in Australia and this is place makes my all time Top 10 and Top 3 in Australia. It isn't Japanese food in the most traditional sense, rather it carries the spirit of Japanese food but executed with a nod to other Asian cuisine and celebrates the purity of great Australian produce. All with zero pretense.
Every dish is thoughtfully constructed and perfectly balanced. You will be able to taste every single ingredient and each one makes sense being there. No one ingredient overpowers any other in a dish. The menu (I had the Luxury) also has a flow to it and has also been thoughtfully constructed. Building from a soft start into a great crescendo at the end with the mains and a lovely encore with the dessert. My partner had the pescatarian menu and it is every bit as clever (if not more so) as the normal menu.
I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The food was unbelievable and the staff were attentive without being overbearing. I would give it 6 stars if Google allowed that. 100% worth a trip if you're in Melbourne and maybe even if you're coming from somewhere else.
Make sure you try their house teas and the house made Ginger and Yuzu beers. They are excellent as well.
What an incredible evening! We didn't realise until the end that the lovely guy serving us and explaining the course and answering our questions was Aaron, the chef himself! How many places have you dined at where the chef presents your meal!?
Was so very special for our anniversary and is absolutely worth the sake pairing and the additional dessert.
We are not used to Japanese food but this was very special and something different. Thanks for such a special night out!
My partner and I had an incredible dining experience at Kadota while visiting Daylesford. We had the spring menu and it was just divine but the cherry on top was the wonderful, attentive service from staff and the owners. Each dish and paired Sake was introduced and explained as they came out and it made for a really fun and interesting dinner. Must visit!
Absolutely outstanding! My partner and I are both proud hospitality owners and therein critique our culinary experiences, as well as celebrate. And Celebrate is definitely what we did during, and after, our experience at Kadota. Not just every single dish, but every single element of each dish was just delightful….. excellent range of drinks (including the best sake we have ever had)….an atmosphere and service that was unpretentious (but would have every right to be given the quality of the food) and a presentation unsurpassed.
Risa and Aaron… an amazing story, and a pure pleasure to have the opportunity to dine in your dream. We will definitely return, but in the meantime will share with everyone we know the amazing experience Kadota is…. See ya in the snow!!!
