Review Aubergine - Dee Why

Love love love the Sunday afternoon entertainment. Kitchen is very slow. The bbq Chicken wings with blue cheese dressing was the highlight. We ate it so fast we missed the photo. Delicious! The steak was nicely cooked and chips were good but not sure it was worth the 50 dollars they charged. Bruschetta was average it was missing the balsamic and the garlic and some of the herbs therefore it missed a lot of flavour. The gnocchi was cooked well and tasted okay.

New owners, new kitchen, but everyone is very slow to get moving. We were the first ones there at 7:30am, and got our coffees fast enough. But the toast took another 30 minutes, and the oats/granola were pretty bland and out of a packet. We had to ask for honey/banana as they were on the ingredients but missing from the dish. Whilst we were waiting we were looking at the staff, but it took until the end of the meal for anyone to ask us if there was anything they can do, which is pretty late really.

A busy sunny Sunday morning, the place was standing room only, granted it was busy but in the time we waiting for our meal our parking ticket expired. We waited almost an hour for our meal. Yes it was busy but if you can't cater to that many people why have that many tables available? After the hour wait, our order was wrong and a 10% Sunday surcharge added to it all. Two of these things are tolerable but you cant make people wait, get the order wrong and charge a surcharge. Something has to give.

Nope. We were tempted in by the lack of a 30 minutes wait compared to the neighbouring cafes. Nope, bad idea. Poached eggs had firm yolks, and the tomato on the side was hard and just for decoration. Hallumi was plain, as was the french toast. Really uninspiring stuff. And we would have been better off taking the 30 minute wait next door, since our food took 40 minutes to arrive here anyway. On the up-side, the waiter was friendly, and it has nice beach views.

I shared a starter mezze plate with my wife while the kids had an early meal of fish and chips. The mezza plate was really awful. A poor selection of what appeared to be tinned/not fresh looking uninspiring items with a measly portion of hummus and bread etc. I have eaten here before and I didn't learn my lesson. Plain and simple it's just not very good (or that's my experience anyway)... The staff are nice though.

We had a lovely celebration of my eldest boy's 18th birthday. Sitting outdoors while flocks of lorikeets tried to interrupt our conversation with their noise was excellent. My smaller boys loved the kids fish and chips. They even ate the salad! The only minor complaint was the prawns. Not enough to be truly filling but no complaints about the flavours. The seafood arrabbiata was top notch. Liked the wait staff--hard working, friendly. All our meals arrived in timely fashion. Would recommend to friends and family.

This little restaurant on Dee Why's The Strand is a great choice for modern Australian cuisine with Mediterranean influences. We had a starter of artisan breads with different home-made dips - hummus, tzatziki, and a great combination of rustic extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar, yum! Then on to the mains - eye fillet with spinach on a bed of mushrooms and a Gorgonzola jus. The potato fondant was shaped like a deep-fried pear. The flavours were spot-on... even the self-proclaimed veggie foe managed to clear the plate. The other main was a festival of colours - chicken skewers with capsicum and red onion, carried by a creamy coriander sauce and saffron rice. For desert a plate of different sorbets and meringue. Needless to say we were stuffed after so much delicious food, all freshly prepared, and served by friendly staff. The Aubergine is now definitely on top of our list.

Food was great and they do a lot of gluten free options. It's right across from Dee Whey beach so view and location are excellent. Lots of parking down the street at the surf club.

Came here for breakfast this morning and this is what I have to say: - No peanut butter, like what cafe doesn't have peanut butter as a condiment for plain toast? - Over expensive menu - Small selection of food for breakfast - Sour coffee, luke warm coffee & curdled coffee where foam was filled half way down cup... managed to get 2 sips of liquid - Very long wait for coffee & food - Terrible customer service - Was told we could move tables to outside however request was never actioned or attended to. Other customers were seated outside before us, therefore leaving us on a table next to the till inside where it was loud as hell and no sense of personal space - Quality of food was o.k. but a massive amount of room for improvement. Safe to say I won't ever be eating here again

I dined here last week and was blown away by the food - the perfectly cooked scallops with pork belly is a must for entree. Great variety on the menu, fantastic wine list and wonderful service. Highly recommend!

We are over from Scotland visiting family in Sydney and we have now been here twice. This is without doubt the best food I have had on my trip. The food is stunning. On my first visit I had the barramundi with a citrus glaze and the second time round I had the eye fillet with a gorgonzola jus, both were beautifully cooked and tasted amazing. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My partner wasn't well for a couple of days before our first visit so didn't eat much but straight away the waitress suggested we could take the food away and was so concerned that she even recommended a good local doctor! I can't recommend them highly enough, the food is amazing, the staff are brilliant and the setting is gorgeous.

Aubergine is one of the best restaurants on the northern beaches. I dined there on two occasions and the service was friendly and attentive. The food was amazing!!! Highlights included a slow cooked lamb special, crispy skin barramundi and a seafood marinara pasta. Not to mention the most incredible limoncello and coconut cake. New owners took over in March and you can tell - it's excellent and worth a visit.

Had our anniversary dinner at Aubergine last Friday. We were well looked after. The staff were very attentive but not overwhelming which was great. Food tasted good, could work on presentation, tighten it up a little but still tasty. Nice cosy spot just a shame it wasnt a alittle busy. Will defnately return.

Awesome food and especially thank you so much to the girl who gave me a glass of ice water when I wasn't feeling well and boxed my meal up. :)

Food cold, service is terrible, can't even get BBQ sauce right! Manager did discount one meal but sadly discounted a side that didn't even arrive.

Fantastic spot for a nice and cosy lunch on a Sunday.
We popped in to Dee why and had lunch at Aubergine with some friends.
Menu is definitely Mediterranean and has a lot of option. New owners and chef have got it right. Good food, good location, simple relax and very friendly. Great quality of food at a very affordable price. We would love to go back and try the diner menu.

Service was adequate and friendly staff.
I didn't taste that much flavor in the eggs the bacon was too chewy. Expected a little more for the price.

Choose another restaurant for breakfast!. My wife and I are locals in Dee Why and like to enjoy breakfast on the strand during weekends. This was our first visit to Aubergine for breakfast and it will be our last. Apart from the luke warm coffee, both the service and the meals were substandard. My wife ordered smashed avocado with 2 poached eggs and semi dried tomatoes. What she was given was avocado chunks (that were browning), one terribly over cooked poached egg (instead off two) and canned sun dried tomatoes. My Mediterranean eggs were delivered as per the menu however, they were cold as was the ciabatta bread and extremely bland. When I approached the waitress the response was "sorry we had a big table, I'll tell the chef. Now that will be $43.20 thanks". Well done Aubergine, I will take great pleasure informing my friends, family and locals of how poor both the food and service was at your restaurant.

Below average - Avoid. Went here for breakfast and judging by that experience there is no way we will go back for dinner.
The food and service were very average. We ordered omelettes. We were in a group of 5 and they brought out 3 omelettes and the others didnt arrive for another 10 minutes. The reason I go out with friends for breakfast is believe it or not to have breakfast together.
They were over cooked and we could tell the filling was just plonked inside after. It came with greasy chips.
Ive realised now that its not possible to have a view and decent food together. This place is no exception.
Scratched off our list. Next.

Not a huge menu but the food served here is delicious, the service is excellent and the owner is very friendly and making sure his customers are looked after, this is the best on the Dee Why strip by far and a fantastic place to take overseas visitors. Keep up the great work guys!
