Review Jonker Street Restaurant - Doncaster East

Lovely family Malaysian restaurant.Good food, Good services and good price.

The curry laksa with soft shell crab was delicious. The har mee unfortunately is not a har mee at all. Three measly peeled prawns and a pork broth base is not a har mee. Feel so cheated.

Nice food quite authentic. Got the Malaysia taste seems one of the improved restaurant after lockdowns, food taste even better than before. So many others all have changed. Laksa seems nicer than before. The fish head bee hoon is quite very nice too. Price reasonable. Will come again the lady was very kind to my kid always smiling. Update: so long didn't eat the Laksa still very nice 👍

Love the Yam Basket Sweet & Sour Pork. Taste so good. Generous servings. The Ying Yong Watan Hor (Flat Noodle & Vermicelli) is full of Wok Hei with prawns, pork slices and vege. Cendol is authentic too. The Lady boss is very friendly.

First time here and we were pleasantly surprised by how delicious and authentic the dishes were! The clay pot rice drop noodle dish was especially impressive and truly offered a taste of home!

Truly fantastic Malaysian Chinese dishes. A lot of deep fried dishes. We ordered a beef rendang, a yam nest with cashew, a home made tofu Dish, a mixed vegetables with garlic sauce. All taste great. 10 out of 10. We have planned what to order (a fish, sizzling tofu, butter prawns) for the next visit. Can't wait to try more.

Amazing food and customer service. We always take away from Jonker Street. Nasi lemak is our go to and fish is amazing too.

Definitely my favourite Malaysian restaurant in Melbourne. The staff are always so friendly and we never had a bad meal here. All of the dishes we have ordered have been exceptional, with favourites including: nyonya fish, homemade tofu with mince, steamed chicken, salted egg yolk chicken. My mum especially love their Ice kachang and said they make the best one in Melbourne. nostalgic flavours we love and seek constantly.

I’d rate this place 10/5. Its def worth that traffic jam n the drive from the west to just taste their authentic Malaysian foods n drinks.

Went there after reading some recommendations. Surprisingly disappointing. Assam laksa - noodles thicker than 5mm. Even extra har gou did not help in bringing out flavor. Pineapple in big cubes. Mackerel in 2 or 3 big chunks (which I didn't mind if the flavors were good). Nasi lemak - fried chicken legs was dry. More batter than meat. To be fair, the staff was polite and gave good customer service.

Loved the food! Tasted just like home! Definitely worth the drive anytime!

Very authentic Malaysian meal, love all the food we had and drinks we had! Service is definitely fantastic! Abplace to go if u miss Malaysian food and hungry!

Another regular haunt for us. Easy to get too, food served up quickly and always super good. Love all the food!!.

Awesome food, impeccable service with a smile always, great place for a quick bite from their hawker menu or dine with friends through their authentic Malaysian choices over a bottle of wine. Don't forget to say hi to James (he's the one with a smile permanently stuck on his face) and he'll make sure you're looked after! BTW best laksa in town and that's no bull.
Sitparan Gnanendran
Generally good food and service. Nonya fish and bean curd always a good choice.

Its all about the food! This is the place for Malaysian food. Curry Laksa is awesome.

One of my favourite restaurants in the eastern suburbs
Mandy Smallman
Entrees of Lobak & curry puffs were very nice, as was the beef rendang. However the Kung Po chicken, while tasty was made with re-heated chicken, which has an unpleasant taste. I'll try this restaurant again, but will avoid any chicken dishes.
Kate Pang
Such a disappointment. Waitress didn't informed us that the fish head curry will be too much for 2 and horrors, fish head not even cleaned properly. THE FISH GILL IS NOT TAKEN OUT There's not much fish is the curry, lots of gravy (too much curry powder), lots of vegetables. When I enquired about the fish head not cleaned properly, the response is: oh. the supplier didn't clean it properly..I told the staff, I am sure your supplier didn't cook the fish head curry! Won't recommend this at all..fish head curry is still way better at Malaysia Kitchen and ShangriLa Rest. As a former F&B owner, I would not have charge for a dish that is unpleasant/unhygienic/unclean but???

It's my first time here and the foods are quite authentic and very Msian taste.

Chee cheong fan taste are too bad...disappointed
Andrew Tan
Order a roast hainanese chicken rice. Just a plain roast chicken without any taste. The Lor mee is terrible. No taste and didn't come close to anything. Staffs was friendly and helpful.
Kathy
ISO dinner delivered to our front door. Everything was yum! Salt & pepper calamari had generous amount of fried shallots. Yam ring with cashew chicken was generous in portion. Beancurd with minced meat, whoa, packed so much flavour. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will be ordering again.

Best place for malaysian food tastes like the one in kl.

Great value for money and friendly service. Delicious veggie spring rolls and curry laksas (veggie and chicken). A family hit!

We have high expectations on this restaurant as a few friends have recommended us this place. We ordered the fish head noodles and marmite ribs rice, the fish head noodles soup is way too milky, the fried fish head does not taste fresh. We don’t really like it, and the marmite ribs is just okay, nothing great for us. The service is quite good, very attentive staffs.
Melbournefoodieee
Nice neighbourhood restaurant.<br/>The fish head vermicelli and the laksa is a must try. The soup is very rich yet not too oiled.<br/>They have a good variety of weekday lunch sets with drinks but not so much for the weekend.<br/>We have ordered the famous drop noodles in clay pot, the taste was good but we found it too salty and too oily to have.
Fang Lu
Authentic Malaysia restaurant! Conveniently located at Jackson Court in Doncaster East, this is one of the only Malaysian style restaurants around the area.
Shish, The Foodie
Solid Malaysian (in fact Chinese Malaysian) food with generous portions. I love their Kangkung Belacan (waterspinach with sambal). It’s perhaps the best I have had in Melbourne. They make great beef rendangs, and their whole barramundi is really good too. I also love their teh tarek (milk tea) as it is not too sweet, unlike most other Malaysian restaurants. It’s a very casual place (nothing fancy) with quick service. Not cheap, but for the big portions they serve, it is acceptable. If you are mindful of your plastic waste, take a container with you as you might bring home some food.
Bear Noms
Great Malaysian cafe that has a great variety of food to select from. Tried the claypot rice drop noodle that came in a generous portion and had tasty pork mince. While it didn’t taste exactly like that of back home, it was good. The pork noodle soup was good. We also tried the lobar, which is pork meat covered with fried bean curd. Would be back to try more!

Its an awasome experience to dine in here for the first time as it was recommended by few of my friends and family, the food was scrumptious and would be coming back for more dishes to try out with friends, thumbs up 👍

My rating: 3.5<br/><br/>Jonker Street seems to be always packed especially on weekends. We were lucky enough to get a table without a reservation.<br/><br/>🔆LOCATION🔆<br/>Jonker Street is located on the corner of Mitchell Street and Jacksons Court within the busy Jackson Court Shopping Centre off Doncaster Road in Docncaster East.Good location with plenty of parking.<br/><br/>🔆SERVICE🔆<br/>The staff here are friendly and prompt service. When it is busy, you can really feel the rush within the restaurant but that is normal.<br/><br/>🔆MENU/PRICE🔆<br/><br/>We ordered:<br/><br/>N23: Fish Fillet Vermicelli Soup, $16.80<br/><br/>N16: Crispy Noodle with Egg Gravy, $13.80<br/><br/>🔆VERDICT🔆<br/>Jonker Street definitely serves authentic Malaysia cuisine, however some of the food is a little inconsistent in flavours each time I visit. I wonder is it because a change of chefs?<br/><br/>On this occasion, I ordered the Fish Fillet Vermicelli Soup. During winter months when its as cold as it gets with rain and chilly winds, noodle soup is the way to go.The fish fillet was bland, lacked in flavour which was very disappointing. The soup itself wasnt hot enough, I dont know if it had been sitting at the bench for quite some time or what and that was also disappointing.<br/><br/>My friend ordered the Crispy Noodle with Egg Gravy. Wow, the serving was very generous and the amount of meat on it was also fair amount too.  She couldnt finish her meal and had to take the rest home. They were nice to not charge for container and plastic bag as some restaurants do charge 10c to 20c.

We’ve been here multiple times to get our Malaysian cravings fixed! It is a bit pricier than our other regular diners but we keep coming back due to its location and dishes offered on the menu.
Sunny Days Melbourne
Jonker Street seems to be maintaining its high standard in food and service. It's always busy on the weekend so booking ahead is essential. The atmosphere when the restaurant is full brings back memories from the chaos in South East Asian eateries. Fortunately Jonker Street is well staffed and service is always good. <br/><br/>We ordered a range of dishes to share tonight. The beef rendang and fish fillet curry were king and queen of the night. The beef was tender and well spiced. The fish curry sauce was to die for - creamy, spicy and oh so satisfying!<br/><br/>The sambal beans were cooked perfectly. The scallops and broccoli had huge pieces of scallops. The salted egg chicken ribs were slightly dry but were saved by the savoury coating. <br/><br/>We love coming here and have never left disappointed before. <br/><br/>Here's my previous review:<br/><br/>This is a great place for Malaysian dishes. Large servings with quality ingredients combine to make it a worthwhile visit, everytime. Their weekday lunch time specials are reasonably priced. Today we had the Vegemite chicken ribs with rice and the bitter gourd pork with rice. Both came with drinks for an extra dollar. <br/>The chicken ribs were perfectly fried but the Vegemite sauce was slightly overwhelming. The bitter gourd pork was well balanced. <br/>If you can't make it to the real Jonker Street in Malaysia, this is the next best place!

Great varied menu, ideal for sharing with a group but there are great cheaper hawker food options to get your own dish as well! Loved the salted egg prawns and hawker noodle dishes are delicious! It gets busy on the weekend so book in expected peak times :) seems quite authentic which is very hard to find in Melbourne
Nean
Absolutely loved their take on an Ice Cendol.  It was delicious, even though it was a freezing night.  The tofu with pork mince was tasty, if not a little too sweet (only slightly).  Service was friendly an efficient.
Hangry Horace
We came here on Mother's day for dinner. The place was very busy and the restaurant was fully booked. We ordered the nyonya fish, yam ring with sweet and sour pork, kam heong prawns and a vegetable dish to share. The food was delicious and everyone was satisfied. The nyonya fish was my favourite as it was spicy, sour and savoury. Service was efficient. I would definitely recommend booking a table before dining here.
Michelle Phillips
Excellent service, food was awesome, the salted egg chicken ribs was my absolute favourite. The staff are so polite and respectful, loved eating out here. Thank you
Natalie Low
I have been here about 5 times now and im not about to stop any time soon~~~<br/><br/>The dishes here are tasty but i wouldnt say its cheap. Its all about the same as any other chinese malaysian restaurants.<br/><br/>The homemade tofu topped with minced meat on a sizzling plate is definitely a must try! Thats my go to dish to make my tummy happy 😁<br/><br/>Downsides: i wouldnt say the nasi lemak, curry laksa or beef hor fun is that great. Pretty average and have had it better at other places but good enough.<br/><br/>Still not a bad place to go to for a nice meal though :)
Tantalizeme
the restaurant was very busy when we arrived, so we waited 20 minutes for a table that’s fine. After ordering we waited 25 minutes for our order. It was hard with the restaurant being so noisy while the food took so long to prepare... Kitchen is very slow as not much is coming out of the kitchen as far as we can see. We ordered: Mandarin pork chops were the saving grace. Salt & pepper calamari were big and tender but the topping is mostly store bought fried shallots so not tasty at all, should’ve use freshly chopped and fried topping like everybody’s else. Egg gravy crispy noodle was good. Nasi goreng was very disappointing basically looks like a not so good taken-away fried rice and took another 15 minutes to arrive after other dishes had gone cold. Sadly we won’t be back.... :(

Yes to AUTHENTIC Malaysian cuisine. <br/>Yes to DELICIOUS offerings.<br/>Yes to GREAT PORTIONS.<br/><br/>Nuff said. <br/><br/>I especially love the sizzling tofu with egg. (Tofu lovers, go and try this dish!!) <br/>Highly recommended and will be back!!!
Kenneth Lim
The food is ok. Probably not suitable for individuals or small groups. Annoying 30 dollar card limit meaning that if you want to take away or eat alone, it’s cash only, even if you want to buy two dishes (one to take away), the pricing per dish is priced at 14.80 per dish ... meaning you are forced to buy a 3rd dish if you need to pay by card.. probably will eat here if I live around the area, but it’s not worth a long commute..
Sydney Food Lover
An extensive menu covering Chinese Malaysian cuisine. The noodle dishes are tasty and large servings so are perfect for sharing. Tried the Vegemite chicken ribs here for something different - a tasty glaze, a bit sweet and salty, I liked them! A good variety of dishes, it’s a small restaurant and always busy so recommended to book a table if you can.

This is my second home when I crave for homecooked food and I am lazy. I can rave all day about their foods on the menu or their special but it does them no justice if you don’t go in and try it for yourself. Hits the spot every damn single time. The staffs are always pumping cause they are always busy but they never forget to put a smile on their face and also on our face. BYO, and doesn’t chase their customers out even though the table had finished their meals, unlike some surrounding eateries in Jackson Court.
Gee
Another Malaysian restaurant, this time in the Doncaster area. We started with the chicken satay sticks which hit the spot and then moved onto the heart attack char kuey teow noodles and the nasi lemak. I found the nasi lemak to be really authentic and loved the sambal and crunchy sardines on the side. All in all, a great meal and it was necessary to walk a few laps of the nearby oval afterwards!
Willtravelforfood17
So excited that we found this place! We came here for dinner on a Sunday night. The place was half full and we just walked in. We ordered kung po yam ring, salted egg yolk bitter gourd and vegemite pork ribs. The food was so good! The bitter gourd was coated in salted egg yolk and was crunchy and fried well (only slightly bitter). The vegemite ribs were tender, sweet and savoury with a strong vegemite taste. Loved it. The yam ring was fried well, however, the kung po sauce was a little too sweet and sourish and didn’t really go with the yam ring. Otherwise the food was outstanding and we can’t wait to come back to try other dishes! Ps they sell prawn keropok (crackers) too so get a bag beforw you leave, it’s great!

Got to try the home made tofu. As a lover of vegetarian food it was fabulous. All food I've ever eaten here was great and recommend. To explore the menu as there is alot to try.<br/><br/>And who can resist those ducks in the window.<br/><br/>Staff are just lovely and very helpful.<br/><br/>Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Plenty of parking.

Place gets pretty packed on weekends. The pan mee didn't meet the expectation. Noodles was too thick and not cooked well. Broth was ok. Curry laksa was ok. Portion big with noodles only.
Eat And Be Merry Crew
Named after the Jonker Walk Melaka Night Market in Malaysia, Jonker Street Taste of Malaysia in Doncaster East serves up hawker stall cuisine for Melbournians. I would highly recommend their char kwai teoh. Full of 'wok hai', that smoky breath of the wok flavour, and it is loaded with Chinese sausage 'lap cheong' and lots of baby clams. Yum! I prefer Jonker Street's char kwai teoh over Pappa Rich's any day.
Jessica Bao
Extremely bad service, doesnt give me a 4ppl table when i have 2adults and a baby, ive explained that baby will touch everything on the table and we cant eat squeezing to the corner?! And i see 1 ppl sitting on a 2/3 ppl table... The manager just insist no bigger table can be given. How ridiculous

We had weekend lunch at Jonker Street and had a mixed experience. <br/>The Char Kuey Teow and Beef Hor Fun were very good. <br/>The Curry Laksa had too much chili for me. I know some other people like that, but to me it lacked balance and overpowered the coconut milk and other spices.<br/>The hot Teh Tarik was the worst I have ever had. It was very bitter and seemed to have no condensed milk or sweetness. I'm not sure whether it was a one-off mistake or that is the way they make it.<br/>The restaurant was packed with local Malaysian families so seems to be generally well regarded.
AaronN
I’m not sure why it’s taken us so long to eat here, but all I can say is I wish we had discovered it earlier. Food here was great and the laksa and beef rendang were highlights (even if they were super spicy). Give this place a try folks.
Tolandofoz84
We’ve been to this place few times.. the first time was good.. but lately somehow the food is not as flavoursome? The vegemite chicken was unusual but somehow works =P
Michelle Bong
Our go to place for authentic reasonably priced Malaysian food. The Laksa is to die for and so is the char kuay teow with decent servings. Staff are always attentive and friendly.
Luv-nice-food
I went there with group of friends.. not my first visit. We ordered fish (forgot to take a pic) , 4 seasons veggie (recommended but we asked less petai as we dont really like petai), yam ring with chicken, choy heong tofu (recommended), scallop and sweet sour pork (Supper Inn ones are much better coz they are crispier and taste better).<br/>We also ordered dessert ice cendol and ice kachang both nice..
Kein
Ample parking, really authentic cuisine. Probably one of the few places in Victoria (the only one I know of) that you'll be able to get mee hoon kueh - soup is flavoursome, wife enjoyed it. Char kuay teow isn't spicy, despite menu warning, tends more towards sweet (reminds me of Puteri's version). Will definitely be back. <br/><br/>
LoveEatLoveCook
Authentic Malaysian restaurant, generous portions at reasonable price. Quick service with friendly staff. Sure will be back to try out other dishes.
JKGasMan
Had the Dry Wonton Noodles and Cham Tarim during lunchtime. They have lunch specials on so worth trying the dishes on this menu. The wonton noodles were delicious and springy with the correct taste. Cham tarik rounded off the meal nicely.
LiveToEat
Huge improvement with the new owners.  its so much busier now then when it was Ron's place.  At least its truly a Malaysian eatery now...and it shows with the locals.  One of the few places with "home made" Pan Mee which my mother always goes back for.  Service is friendly and efficient.  One thing - be nice if they added hot drinks for the additional $1, especially now.
Sharon Lee
Came here as highly<br/>recommended by a friend. Overall had a good experience everything was really tasty. We ordered the char kway teow which was slightly spicier than I expected but I still managed to enjoy it :) my hubby ordered the Beef rendang and really loved the flavours; probably one of the nicest we have had but we were really let down by too many fatty pieces of beef fat/sinew.<br/>We would have given a higher rating if not for this. Management should take note of this ...
Lady Aprilia M
sizzling pork and ais kacang.. The food really good and the staffs are friendly.. the price bit costly but worth it to try... Nice environment
KLLYXNG
My family and I frequent this restaurant a fair bit and it is always busy for a good reason.<br/>We don't usually book for a table as we only wait about 10 minutes max but it's always good to for your first time. <br/>This time pictured is an iced bandung with cincau, crispy noodle w egg gravy, 4 seasons, fried tang hoon, beef rendang, claypot pork belly (can't remember with what) and ice cendol.<br/>Food is consistently good and flavours are authentic. Sometimes service is a little mute as the waitresses never say anything when they attend to your table but that's just nitpicking.
Choc Pudding
Went here with some friends and they had 6pm and 8pm seating. It was definitely busy place. The place is simple but nice and clean. We had some fried tofu, vegemite pork chop, salted egg chicken ribs and sambal with four veggies in it. Overall they all are good, although I think the spices are rather mild compared to Petaling Street. The salted egg chicken was something I had never had before and it was nice and rich. It is okay, I guess not disappointing but I would probably go to somewhere with a bit more kick to the taste.
Food Coma Survivor
One of my favourite Malaysian restaurants. I come here all the time with my family, the dishes and rice are the best. Definitely order the lamb dishes, kangkung belacan, 4 seasons vegetables, yam, salted egg chicken ribs, yin yong noodles, nyonya style fish, and the bitter gourd. All of them were perfect, and the salted egg dishes are always so good. Service is excellent, but it does take awhile for food to arrive. Make sure to make reservations on weekends.
Kylie
I came here today with a Malaysian family who gave me a lot of delicious dishes to try out. I forgot to take photos because the food because I was too absorbed in the whole experience. Malaysian cuisine in general tends to be more flavoursome and a little spicier than what I would normally eat but I loved it all the same. As they had no complaints, I assume the food was also good enough for their experienced Malaysian tastebuds, so I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Alistair
Very busy and noisy, with tables packed in tightly, but food and service are good.Chilli pork belly was tasty as a braised pb dish, but beside some dried chillies thrown in, did not have any heat and very little chilli flavour. Pork was great, but ask for more chilli if you want hot.Water was filtered, service was fine except for people coming after us being served first.Beware upsell on rice, without disclosing extra cost.
Julycheee
Jonker Street is a very busy Malaysian restaurant. The staff were really efficient and friendly. The food menu is extensive. We  enjoyed our food except that the char kway teow was definitely below average - lacked a bit of wok flavour and was bizarrely sweet.
Dee Dee
This is my third time here in 2 weeks.<br/><br/>The Wanton Mee is really good. Good noodle and sauce. I didn't like the wanton - it's really hard.<br/><br/>The Pan Mee soup is tasty and they used the torn noodle instead of normal noodle. I'm not used to the thickness of the torn noodle. Prefer a lighter and thinner noodle but that's just a preference.<br/><br/>The Pork Noodle is a simple clear soup broth and not the rich pork noodle soup. If you are looking for a simple clear Kuay Teow soup - this is a good choice.<br/><br/>I'll definitely come back for the Wanton Mee and Pan Mee again.
Ingrid
too many good Malaysian restaurants in the area to waste time here waiting 45 minutes for one persons food to arrive after the other is served!
Coco
We had the char kuay teow and the curry laksa. The CKT was so so only, no wok hei. Curry laksa was good though.<br/><br/>Price was reasonable, service was quick. I wouldn't mind giving it another go to try the other items in the menu. <br/>
Min Kyung Park
As a local customer, this is a quite nice Malaysian restaurant. Expecially I love their Fish head noodle soup. It is the second to none in Melbourne. Absolutely, better than any other place in Melbourne. <br/>However, laksa is so so.
I Like Food :3
The food were nice the first few times we went but the quality deteriorated over time.<br/><br/>The last time we went we ordered Pan Mee, Steaky Pork Belly w/ Preserved Mustard, a vegetable dish, curry puffs and rice.<br/><br/>We requested for anchovies to be excluded from the Pan Mee but still found them in there when the dish was served.<br/>The pork belly was way too salty and the rice was burnt.<br/><br/>There were four of us but we were only given three cups. When requested for a fourth one, the waitress chucked the cup at our table! <br/><br/>Overall, very poor customer service and the food is a hit and miss. Hesitant about dining there again. <br/>
Andrew Tan
I am surprised with their roast hainanese chicken rice. Very plain roast chicken. I advice that they remove the word hainanese from their menu. The Lor mee is the worst I have ever eaten. Ruin my sat night eat out.
Lee San
Excellence customer service! Food was very authentic! Butter prawn lak Chee lala(pipi) definitely had the surprise! Highly recommended!worth it
Taeyeon's Hamster
Jonker Street provides an authentic flavour from a part of Malaysia. Although I'm not a native Malaysian, I can certainly tell the difference and quality this family business provides. I would dine at this place for dinner over lunch as their Curry Laksa noodles and Assam Laksa was so so. The Assam soup base was a bit too fishy for my liking.<br/><br/>On positive notes do try the Claypot Stew Lamb, Pan Mee (hand made shredded noodles with anchovies), Hainanese  chicken with real ginger rice, Oriental pork chop (milk battered) and pretty Ice KaChang to top it off. Their teh tarik (Malaysian milk tea) is not bad too as you can watch them tip it from up high into another container to make it all frothy.
Mad Lamb
This place is such a hit and miss depending on the day. I usually have the dry wonton noodle, a good-sized portion and pretty tasty! However the second time I visited, the noodles were terrible! Stodgy, strangely sticking together and undercooked. It's turned me away completely. Prices are reasonable, minimum $30 for eftpos.
Been?Here
Was looking forward to coming here to try out their food. On arrival the restaurant was full house and we had to wait 15 mins which was fine. We had a run through their menu and picked 3 of the "thumbs up" dishes and were ready to order by the time we were seated. <br/><br/>Unfortunately, as much as I would like to give them the thumbs up, I can only say their food tasted so-so on this occasion and the reason being the meat tasted quite dry and salty and perhaps both the Yam Ring and Vegemite Pork Ribs were prepared with the same sauce. <br/><br/>Food is also on the pricey side. Given the service staff were good here and they have a big menu and good crowd of customers, I will give them the benefit of doubt and say perhaps their other dishes are worth a try another time. <br/><br/>🌟🌟✨Yam Ring <br/>🌟🌟✨Vegemite Pork Ribs<br/>🌟🌟✨Lobak<br/><br/>Returned for more! <br/>🌟🌟🌟✨Minced Pork with Mee Tai Bak in Claypot<br/>🌟🌟🌟✨Bak Kut Teh

This restaurant was new when I patronised it in 2016. I was told the chee yoke fun was good but didn't feel like it so ordered the hokkien mee. It was only average. Nothing too memorable. Would I go back? Probably if Papparich was closed for good

Glad to found yet another Malaysian restaurant serving up affordable, authentic food! Most happy that they served traditional desserts such as bubur chacha, black glutinous rice and Ais kacang. Will return for other dishes.
Sezza
Came here for dinner and it was good. We ordered the Pan Mee, belachan fried rice, and claypot loh shu fun. The place itself feels like Malaysia. And I can't wait to try the other food when I go back there.
Tangertalks
I've heard mixed reviews about Jonker Street and while I was keen to try my own noodle dish (e.g. Laksa) I ended up getting sharing plates to share. We tried a good variety of things and I had a pleasant experience. The dishes we ordered were cooked well, had good flavours and the service was quick but also friendly.
Jeremy W
Named after a street in Melacca, I just had to try this place. It's located at the corner in a row of other food shops. The setting was nice and simple with a large image of the original Jonker street. <br/><br/>I ordered the Vegemite chicken, sweet chilly clams, butter prawns and the fried slice fish. I enjoyed them all! The Teh Tarik was good and served in the typical hawker style cup. <br/><br/>If time permits, I will definitely like to come back and try the other dishes on the menu. 👍🏼
Put The Kettle On
What happened to you Jonker Street??  A couple of months ago, we enjoyed our dining experience with you and this time, you were a huge disappointment.  Your chicken satay was bad, even with the sauce, it was bad. I could not get the weird taste out of my mouth, and it was also terribly salty.   Sauce was poor too. So inedible I had to leave it behind. Lobak was ok, but there was a tiny hair at the corner of the dish.  Nasi Lemak rendang was not rendang, I'm not really sure what that was, and your sambal was tasteless.  Chee Cheong Fun was the only edible dish. Once a upon a time, you came with rave reviews from many of my friends but sadly, we won't be back again.
Dave Singh
Tried the mee goreng...please don't do it ...unbelievably bad..the worst ever ...presume the rest of the food is the same ..lots of soy sauce to drown the noodles or whatever
Bernie L
This is a new Malaysian restaurant located in Jackson Court, Doncaster East. It serves Malaysian cuisine. We ordered the Wan Tan Hor and Har Mee. I would say the Wan Tan Hor taste pretty authentic, with the well marinated fried key teow immersing in the tasty gravy. As for the Har Mee, it is not bad. But, it does not impress me as much as the former. Feel that more punch and more prawny stock would enhance its flavour and overall taste. Good and speedy service. Generous serving of food. Just did a takeaway for the Wan Tan Hor again :)
Julie T
The best Malaysian food so far - with real flavour. <br/><br/>This place is great as the flavours are hot n spicy and not watered down for the Western palate. You can taste all the spices in the meals rather than being killed by chilies alone. <br/><br/>The  wonton mee (dried) was  very tasty, as was the curry chicken nasi lemak. The chicken was a tad overcooked though but the flavours of the rice and sambal were well balanced. We also had the char kweu tau which was tasty in flavour but very light on meat and veg (only had two prawns & 2 pieces of Chinese sausage) The only thing that was below average was the cheung fun but I may have ordered in wrongly and had a different expectation. <br/><br/>The service was swift and friendly and the place is clean. It's definitely one of the better Malaysian restaurants in the east. Although I like Penang Flavours, I don't like sitting near the kitchen getting oil smells in my clothes. Jonker St's kitchen is out the back so you won't get any oil in your hair.  I would definitely go back again and try all the other dishes. Prices were fair and as expected.

Century Egg Congee is a rip-off for $12.80 - basically a few strips of eggs and pork. Disappointing. Others are okay. The waiting area for seats should be enlarged or some reorganizing of furniture is needed!
Stephen G
It's pretty homie if I lived a little closer then this would be a once a month go to place for good honest tucker. <br/><br/>Curry lacked sauce and was served on a kmart plate. Laska was good.<br/>Other dishes were ok. It was packed most likely with locals. The owner who is a large lady who looks scary.<br/>With a few polishing touches to the food and a little love in the cooking this place could be great.<br/><br/>But its an honest 3.2 spuds out of 5.<br/>I'll go again hopefully they win me over hard to find good Malaysian food.<br/><br/>Advice: Try if you're in the area.
Adeleine
The service was great with a loud bustling atmosphere. The food was good value for money. One downside was the mininum $30 spend required for credit card and the surchage applied, which made it a little inconvenient. Overall a positive dining experience.

Great tasty food. Have had the curry laksa twice, the first time it was excellent and the second time very mediocre so perhaps consistency might be an issue. The Vegemite ribs were interesting and flavourful.

First time there. The most memorable dish was Har Mee, which tasted really similar to the one I tried in Penang and KL. The broth was rich and full flavoured. Luv it.<br/><br/>Fish head noodle and nasi lemak were average. <br/><br/>Sure I will be back for Har Mee in an hurry. Indeed, i just wanted to go back next day after i had it. <br/><br/>

After an intensive gym session last Friday, I found myself craving for Malaysian food and decided to take a trip up to Doncaster for some much needed refueling. While being located in a quiet area, especially at night, can be a dead zone for some businesses, I was surprised to see that there still quite a few customers in the restaurant despite arriving 30 minutes before the restaurant closes.

Cant fault this place. Most amazing authentic food and great service. Prices are also reasonable. Roast chicken is to die for. Lucky I work closeby yay

Enjoyed the entrees if lobak & curry puffs, main of beef rendang with roti was very nice. However, Kung Po chicken, while amazing flavour was made with re-heated chicken - a pet hate!!!! I do not eat re-heated chicken at home, I am not eating it at a restaurant. I will return, but won't order chicken.....anything.

I'm always always excited to try out a new Malaysian restaurant - still trying to replicate the feeling/taste of childhood dishes enjoyed in Malaysia and still haven't been able to find a STELLAR Malaysian eat anywhere in Melbourne...too sad. However, I did very much enjoy the yummalicious Wonton Mee (Dry) - closest genuine thing outside of Malaysia/Singapore. Their Pork rice was averagely average, but the Fishhead was also tasty (just a teeny bit salty) for those watching their salt intake! The ambience is pretty much zero, but wait staff are friendly and helpful with the menu. But the tables are oddly sized and a little awkward in layout.

Been wanting to try this place for a while as its been associated with Ron & Sue. After reading all the bad reviews we were very sceptical but here goes. We had the char kuey teow and the nasi goreng kampong. 1st impressions were that it was a generous serve, looked and smelled right. Prawns were fresh not frozen, overall tasty enough. Nasi goreng kampong wasn't absolutely authentic but the flavours were there, again a generous size. We'll be back to try something else.

Lousy and slow service. Waited for 45 mins, at least, for take away! Ridiculously unacceptable!! Very bad experience for a first timer. Food taste below average.
Lucky Star
Food was very average. The satay and Lohbak were oily, the prawn was not cooked well enough, could not eat the Kung Po chicken as the chicken was not cooked thru, the kuay theow was more of a Chinese flavour than Malaysian and there was nothing special about the fried rice. To top it off they mixed salt in the black rice dessert instead of sugar. The only saving grace was their kueh dah dah which very nice and the barley drink. Would not be returning anytime soon. Unfortunate because Ron did a good job before this.

Late Saturday meal at a new local. Unfortunately, it was quite disappointing and will not be going back. Although the Char Kuay Teow looked authentic, it lacked the flavour punch. The crispy fried noodles came with a complementary purple rubber band. At least it was purple and I didn't accidentally consume it. My chendol drink was made with coconut cream or a very thick coconut milk. Way too rich!!

Jonker Street in Doncaster is named after a popular street in Malacca, Malaysia which has now taken over the location that Ronz Roti Kaya used to occupy. The menu at Jonker Street is actually quite extensive, they offer an array of noodle and rice dishes, as well as congee which include your Malaysian staples like Nasi Goreng, and Curry Laksa but they also serve mains if you prefer to share dishes and take the opportunity to try a few more dishes at a time.

Authenic Malaysian meals with quick and friendly service. Highly recommended. Come early on Sundays it gets full very quickly. Closed on Mondays.
Hello. Imnikki
What a big difference does a change of management makes. Back when this place was Ronz, you could rock up without worrying about whether you can get a table; but now it's always full and your best bet is to book if you are in a big group. While still serving Malaysian cuisine, the menu now boasts a larger variety of dishes with the usual suspects thrown in. Can't say the taste were very authentic but must commend them on the quality ingredients used - the prawns and pipis were really fresh and meaty, so much fresher than those served at seafood restaurants. Very generous potion sizes, be prepared to roll out of the place after your meal. Drinks were memorable for the wrong reasons - iced chendol was all sweetness and nothing else, iced teh tarik was more like iced water tarik. Ice kachang was a bit disappointing - too much rose syrup, too little evaporated milk and gula Melaka and my pet peeve, lychee in my iced kachang. Great service though especially from one of the girls who actually waited outside the toilet for one of our friends to confirm her order because we totally forgot what she wanted us to help her order.

food was just decent (ordered char kuey teow and hainanese chicken rice- one raw piece )and they actually gave me a torn note for my change...

All the food I tried here so far are quite decent. Although it's still new, service is quite efficient and the wait staff are friendly. Also, the portions are impressively big! I had the hainan chicken rice; the generous servings of tender chicken really won me over. Definitely recommend it! I also tried the pan mee which was also quite decent. However, I wish there were more anchovies in it! The ais kacang and cendol were quite delicious too.<br/>Jonker St is definitely a nice place to drop by for some yummy Malaysian delicacies :)

I liked coming to Ronz's so I thought I check out the new shop now called Jonker Street. Menu has been added to and decor updated. Food was delicious and servings very generous. Service was a bit lacking. There appeared to be confusion over our order as one dish was missed and mains came out first with no rice but staff were very apologetic. It was very busy at the time but hopefully the staff will get through the initial teething problems. Will be back. Great to have a great Malaysian place so close to home.

25 August 2017<br/>19 of us "invaded" this eatry at 7.45 pm. We had Thai style barramundi, seafood yam basket, steamed chicken, salt fish belly pork, salt egg chicken ribs, leafy veggie, cendol and ais batu kacang (sweetened shaved ice with red beans ). Almost everyone loved the dishes and service. So we gave them a big tip to encourage further good service to all customers. Please see photos at the back of my album.<br/><br/>13 August 2017:<br/>Had my favourite noodle here: Malaysia's national noodle, woon doon mien (please see photo 📷) The wonton (dumpling) was stuffed with lean minced pork, not fatty minced. The broth was just perfect with a touch of pepper added. The skin of the wonton was soft, smooth and thin. Noodle was steeped in yummy soy sauce, non-sticked. Picked chilli condiment was perfect although a tad too hot for me but then I ain't a hot guy. Go try it guys.<br/><br/>Today is my third time here. First dish tried Singapore Mee Hoon, second dish tried was Mandarin Sauce Pork and today was Gingered Spring Onion Fish Fillet. All yummylitious<br/>25 June: Brought three friends here. We had beef rendang nasi lemak, heh mee, deep fried tofu, teh tarik, claypot eggplant and pan mee. All rated 5* except pan mee (gets a 4)<br/>15 July: Had assam laksa today. The broth was sublime, exactly right, not too sour, not too sweet, not too salty. Definitely a 5*. For one on the road, I must have their teh tarik. Exquisite better than the ones I had in PJ's mamak shops. A friend I brought to this place some weeks ago have the teh tarik 10/10. For me a 5* again.<br/>02 Aug: tried the kon lou mien for the first time. The char siew tasted exquisite. The noodles and the sauce were great. Would have loved the wanton skin to be thinner and the pork meat added with some fat portions. But then, this is Melbourne not PJ. Melburnians are terribly health-consious<br/>10 Aug: couldn't resist coming back for the kon lou mien and teh tarik. The char siew was so delicious I wanted to order more of it. But the place was packed to the rafters. James had no time for me. The tea was heavenly. For the uninitiated, James used to work in the old school Malaysian kopitiam before, training under his granddad. So don't say I didn't warn you. Photos of my favourite dishes and drinks uploaded again<br/>21 Aug: Ala carte dishes for lunch. Brought a friend here. He's from Malvern East. Had beef rendang and belacan long beans (some call it snake beans). So goood, it's definitely a five* for these two dishes. And this place's reputation must have spread far and wide. For a seating capacity of 45 or so, a queue of 15 waiting inside and outside of shop means 👍👍👍 Forgot to mention we had teh tarik "two for the road" definitely 10/10<br/>30 Aug: Brought an Italian-Australian friend here to try the beef rendang and belacan long beans. Surprisingly he loved them. He liked the teh tarik as well<br/>21 September: tried the kong lou mien. Definitely a 5* for this dish. Reminded me of PJ. Restaurant almost full at 1230.<br/>

I think its only a new place. Could still slightly smell the fresh paint. Looks great inside! Really good picture along the wall which made sense when you read the story in the menu! It is a full size photo of Jonker street in Malaysia across the wall! Very cool! Menu was huge! Alot to choose from! But the food was great! Very fresh! Staff were friendly and helpfull. Will definitely be back! I loved the lemon sauce on the lemon chicken!

UPDATE 18/11/2017<br/>Well done guys, much improved .... some adjustment needed.<br/>9.5/10 $35.00 special Egg noodles, yeap that was special, especially the noodle, just Chinese "al dente"<br/>9/10 $22.80 Salted Egg Chicken Ribs, simple goodness, well cooked.<br/>8.5/10 $28.80 Scallop & Broccoli <br/>8.5/10 $28.80 Butter Prawns, wasn't as great as last time ... overcooked.<br/>8/10 $17.80 Sizzling Beancurd<br/>7.5/10 $29.80 Yam Ring & Kung Pao Chicken, good Yam ring, heavy Kung Pao chicken<br/>7/10 $17.80 Garlic Chinese Broccoli <br/>5/10 $26.80 Sweet & Sour Fish, was the worst of the evening, unfortunately.<br/><br/>UPDATE 24/10/2017<br/>Much settled and getting better .... BYO is ON<br/><br/>PREVIOUS<br/>Good bye Ron'z Jazz and welcome Jonker Street ......<br/><br/>Still within the family, but with a new management in place; better presentation, exposure, interior, Menu, more waiting staff, better service, etc. Very impressive wall print of Jonker Street.<br/><br/>Menu has changed, some are kept, more are added. I'm missing their fried glutinous rice from Ron'z, I think they should keep that one on the Menu. <br/><br/>We've been there three times so far since opening, Dinner, Lunch and Dinner.<br/><br/>Samosa; could have been an easy 8/10 if not for the "cold" part filling, wasn't fried thoroughly.<br/>Singapore Noodles; 7/10<br/>Salted Fish & Chicken Fried Rice; less chicken and more "small" cuts salted fish, that's the aroma, cooked very well though.<br/>Char Kwee Tiaw, missing that burnt, Lapchong, Pork lard goodness, impressive with those Pipies. This should be their signature dish.<br/>Curry Laksa, punchy Laksa broth, I would prefer more seafood/chicken & tofu, no need for BBQ Pork slices. <br/>Beef Rendang, is okay, nothing exciting, this should be their signature dish.<br/>Belachan French Beans, still good, eat them fresh not Take Away.<br/>Nyonya Fish ( Barramundi) sauce got everything but was lacking in punches, fish wasn't cooked well too, overcooked.<br/>Egg Plant in Claypot, Cantonese influence, needing more salted fishand perhaps chilies a bit bland to our liking and missing the Claypot.<br/>Egg yolked Prawns, another Cantonese influence, 6/10, missing crispiness.<br/>Tango Pork Ribs, another Cantonese influence, now that's more to our liking, just right.<br/><br/>Their desserts are "champions"; Ais Kachang 9/10 (Ice Kacand/ABC); palm sugar, coconut cream, perfect, best $7.50 dessert (no need for Vanilla ice cream) & Bubur Cha Cha 8/10, again cooked well & palm sugar (just needed a bit more and salt).<br/><br/>In short, on the food side they've lost the "edge" of authenticity and prepping, a few teething issue I would say or I hope so, as we would love to be one of their "frequent flyers" and hoping BYO is available soon, got to have some Riesling with your food.
