Friendly staff , classic old style pub that even had a meat raffle. Large servings for the price. Good quality. The Veal Kebab special of the day was outstanding. great flavour tender and juicy. It was difficult for any one in the room to finish it. Scallops , fishermans basket and burgers were all terrific.
Down side was a really noisy room as it was all hard surfaces, and the car park was gravel yet muddy.
This place seems nothing special from the front, but it is unspoiled and unpretentious. Hubby had the lamb shanks, which he loved, but the sauce was a little tomatoey. The meat was lovely and tender though. I had the Chicken Donny (or was it Donny Chicken?) and it was divine! The chicken breast was flattened and grilled, and covered in the tastiest sauce! It was billed as bacon, mushroom & chilli, and it was divine. The mushroom & bacon were chopped very finely so the mushroom was quite flat, so instead of being a chunky mushroom sauce the mushroom was a complementary ingredient instead of the 'star'. The chilli & pepper were certainly present, but not overdone so that the sauce was flavoured but not spicy. I can't describe how yummy it was. The staff were very friendly and hubby found the fireplace and couldn't be budged for quite a while!

One of the few original Aussie pubs left in Melbourne. Excellent atmosphere, service and great classic pub meals still exist here. There is a backyard for the kids to run around and a small arcade area/shed out the back. One thing that would complete it would be to install small a playground but in the meantime, the kids are thrilled by watching the trains chug by. Definitely give this place a go!
