Review Young George - East Fremantle

Alex Natale
Went to the Young George on a rainy sunday evening and it was the perfect place to be nestled in the sleepy suburbs of East Fremantle. We arrived and were quickly seated, with the special explained to us and drinks orders taken. Cocktails in hand (which were delicious) it was now time for the starters, we had the scallops which were beautify fresh easy to eat, followed by the prawn toast only complaint was there wasn't enough, lastly we had the milk bun fried chicken ramen sliders and OMG were these delicious. Seriously I'd be going back again just for these, if only they served a full sized burger of this. For mains we shared between the Oyster mushroom risotto, chicken gnocchi, lamb belly and the roast pork special (with a side of the fries potatoes W/ creamy truffle aioli...of course). All these dishes were nice and fresh and cooked to perfection. In summary, the food was fantastic, the drinks were flowing and the company was second to none. Young George chefs should be commended for their passion for food and the servers for their willingness to help and actually give good advice. I had high expectations for the Young George and I am pleased to say they were far surpassed in all avenues. Service: 10/10 Food: 9/10 Value: 7/10 Thanks to the team for having us, will be returning again shortly šŸ˜Š

My partner and I went to Young George tonight for her birthday, and from start to finish the experience was phenomenal. We were greeted by a very friendly waiter who seated us at the bar and made sure we were attended to while our table was finished being prepared. The place was packed, being a Saturday night, yet the staff were efficient and still took the time to provide great service. Our waiter explained in welcome detail the aspects of the menu and was clearly knowledgeable and passionate about the food on offer. We had the milk bun chicken, beef tartar, scallops, octopus, and potatoes. Each and every dish was perfectly cooked and had a unique and great flavour. All of them were delicious, but my highlights were the scallops and octopus. The scallops were so fresh, and I don't think I've ever had octopus that tender. The chefs and all members of staff should be commended for the quality of experience they put out. We'll definitely be back.

I have been to Young George almost 10 times now. Every time the food never disappoints and the cocktails never disappoint. This time the hit for me were the milk bun and fried ramen chicken and the ricotta rice and duck. The beef tartare has been on the menu for a while. And itā€™s always amazing. Even though the wagyu was tender Iā€™d prefer it without being sous vide. Itā€™s a preference thing. Love the staff who recommended us all the foods. Theyā€™re all attentive and really care about their work. Nice job Young George. Iā€™ll be back soon.

Cracking place. Not afraid of seasoning, some funky plays on traditional dishes and a really superb wine list. Staff is A1. Big, broad open tables and seating areas.

The talent is unmatched inside this cosy venue. Nourishing and nurturing (with their waste-less philosophy). Looking forward to coming back again to try the rest of the menu!

Food is good, but no air conditioning. Staff service needs to improve.

Great vibe, great service, great food, open late! Haven't been here before but the guy at the door actually convinced us to come in and we didn't regret it.. Deep fried chicken sliders were fantastic, beef chop chop was good if that's your thing. Potatoes were epic and the chicken was nice. Def go

Young George is the perfect spot for creative, flavoursome and well cooked share plates. The servings are carefully paired to have a contrast of textures and medely of flavours. On top of the food, the staff are warm and welcoming, and very attentive, making an excellent service. Here's a great spot to enjoy a nice evening out with friends & family.

the food was absolutely delicious.. it's the type of food that goes cold on my plate as I savior every mouthful and let my tastebuds succumb to each and every flavor of spice that is in my mouth.. it makes you drift off to other lands.. honestly, it's the best food I've eaten in such along time..

We held a 40th Birthday here last night (17/02/18). First off, WOW the food was AMAZING!!!! Everything about the venue, from the friendly staff to the cellar itself was absolutely brilliant! Everyone was commenting on what a wicked place it was and how incredible the food was! But more than that, management and staff were so easy to deal with from the get go. They were amazingly helpful in terms of budget and choices, and also made it super easy to be able to drop things off and set things up at the venue as we needed. I truly cannot fault this place! Beautiful venue, beautiful food, beautiful staff. Highly recommended!!

The food was insane amazing! One of the best relaxed dining experiences I've had in a long time. Female head chef and female managed šŸ’“ The waiter was super friendly and more then happy to run us through all the gluten free options, so many, and veggie options. Definitely bringing the poochie here again one Sunday night.

Had my 50th birthday party in the cellar last night. What an amazing venue, fantastic food, excellent wine selections, fabulous friendly helpful staff. Wish I could do it all again there next week! Highly recommend with all the stars I can click on! Thanks Young George for a fabulously fun fiftieth!

Visiting from North Queensland. Had the Big Guv'ner Pale Ale and the three plate special ($25). Chicken slider, buttermilk chicken wings, and chilli squid. Awesome food, great location. Cheers Guys!

We were a party of five. The food for the most part was very, very good. The service was less than impressive. Our waitperson was knowledgeable about the menu however after our entree, after stacking the dirty plates ourselves, we had to actually ask her to remove them as she served the mains. Wouldnā€™t mind that if they werenā€™t charging the prices that they charge. Incredibly overpriced for what you get as far as portion size and service.

Lovely place good service great food and drink I had a late breakfast Good selection and perfectly cooked poached eggs friendly staff and nice use of space inside and alfresco dining spaces outside

Outstanding !! Superb food, amazing service - Meliss and Susan and Staff thank you for making my 40th a truly memorable event. Seriously the food was to die for and my guests were well impressed. Thank you so much xx

Absolute joke just paid $22 for a wrap which had egg and some ham in it which took well over 30 mins to come to table along with a cold greens dish that was very average never coming back need to pick up ur game guys
Vicki Anne Logan
Great service, friendly staff, good wine selection and delicious food. Looking forward to trying the dinner menu if it's anything like the lunch menu i know i won't be disappointed.
John Davison
Grossly over priced for what you get based on sharing. But not enough food to go around 7 people Multiple plates had to be ordered. And the wine prices What can I sayšŸ‘Ž
Sandra Nesbitt
Once again absolutely fantastic table service from the staff on duty. Great selection for the lunch menu . Three dishes for $25 . Our 6 dishes could have fed more than the two of us . We did it justice though. I am sure I will return if only to sample the drinks and desserts I could not fit in on this visit .......

Loved the food at Young George! The fuji apple doughnut desert - I didn't want the taste to end. Kept it in my mouth as long as I could...

Highly recommend Young George. Had a wonderful dinner. The Menu is amazing & delicious, so much choice. Thank you to the Management & Staff who were consummate professionals. We will definitely come back & let others know about this beautiful restaurant.

The food was sensational, and the serving staff were incredibly helpful in putting together the perfect vegan-friendly menu. Weā€™ll definitely be back!

Three girlfriends and I ate here last night and my oh my it was amaaaaaazing food!! We ordered the Beef Crackle, Broccamole, Milk Buns with crunchy chicken, Beef tartare, 3x cooked spuds, scallops with black garlic salt and the duck dish. All was beautifully presented and tasted even better!
E
All the food was very tasty but really the serves are just too small, the booze is overpriced and we left happy but knowingly ripped off, sad but very Perth.
Keith
It was our first time at young George yesterday for lunch it was well worth the travel from where we live food was simply amazing well thought out and cooked to perfection definitely wonā€™t be our last visit
The Chefs Wife
We're always eating out in our beautiful Perth and we'll let you know when we find somewhere that's well worth a visit. We love brunching, lunching, wining and dining. Sometimes it's a casual family meal, with our Little Chef in tow, but we do like something a little bit fancy too!. Like us on Facebook!

I have only a few words about this place as i am totally speechless.

The service was bad. The wait staffs ignored my table even though they were right in front of me. It wasnt even crowded for me to say ā€œyup they r tiredā€

The food was nothing to rave about.

Not gg to visit again and would not recommend
Queen Of Bad Timing
I love a good chef collaboration. Thereā€™s something very special about seeing two talented individuals bring their different skill-sets into the kitchen to produce a collaborative, cohesive meal. Cue: Young Georgeā€™s Melissa Palinkas inviting Liberteā€™s Amy Hamilton into her dining space for the ultimate dim sum den evening. Four courses of Asian inspired dishes and cocktails to matchā€¦ yup this first Young George collab dinner had my name all over it.

Zomato 19.10.17

Disappointing experience for a family birthday dinner. No staff in sight when we arrived. While restaurant is lovely inside, uncomfortable seating where we sank into bench seats at different level to the chairs. We had the glaring spotlights of the adjoining bottle store shining in our eyes only to be plunged into semi-darkness when the store closed. Ordered several tapas and main dishes to share including fish and prawns. Food was hit and miss and overpriced. Small portions. Five small ribs for $30. Long wait for drinks; confused service. Dishes were brought out randomly with long gaps in between. No explanation given by waitress at any stage. Forty five minutes after first dish arrived, we were waiting for last two dishes of fish and prawns. Most unusual to have seafood served last, after all the meat, potato and vegetables. Service in a restaurant can always be measured by how well customer feedback is handled- in this case both the waitress and manager were unapologetic, unprofessional and frankly couldnā€™t have cared less. Left a very sour taste for all after such great expectations given past reviews. Perth restaurants seem to have jumped on the tapas bandwagon and many hide behind minute portions, ordinary dishes and high prices while being able to take the pressure off the kitchen by randomly bringing dishes out whenever they decide to. So tired of being ripped off and disappointed in Perth. As Broadfield wrote recently- time for restaurants to wake up to the realities of operating in Perth.

Made a booking for a large group for dinner on the a sunday night. We had the goat halloumi trash fennel jam, lime, agave, pistachio; scorched broccoli, wild lemon sorrel, chilli, buttermilk, hazelnuts and pecorino; triple cooked potatoes with red curry mayonnaise; Rottnest scallops, peach bbq, pickled ginger and smoked bacon; and the pork hock with honey roasted apple, pine nut, sultana, puffed skin; wood and roasted piggy with trimmings. For dessert we had the compressed honey cake with white chocolate, pear and honeycomb; reverse maltesers, chocolate meringue, malt cream; and the bravo apple dumpling, ginger ice cream with walnut praline. Could not fault a single dish. Definitley coming back!
Belynda Deliva
Family & dog friendly cafe with a great breakfast menu. We had the crab cake benedict & YG sausage with poached eggs + green juice. Really good quality produce. I enjoyed the YG sausage dish more than the crab cake. The service would have been better if they had one more staff on floor but the team was really friendly and efficient. Would definitely go back again!

Went for breakfast this morning with friends (group of 6). Waitress was pretty unfriendly, no warm greeting or smile. Then she dropped boiling hot tea on my arm and leg. Didn't say sorry. Blamed it on the girl who filled the tea pot. Offered me a cold towel 5 minutes after the event. Bit late. Food was good but leaving with a burn mark on my leg and no apology. Pretty bad service. Don't think we will be going back.
THE ILLUSIVE FEMME
Visited this morning for brunch and got there around 11ish... Was told they were out of a lot of dishes on the menu after a busy morning. Bit of a shame as both of the dishes we wanted to try were all out. Went with the Crispy Tortillas ($17.50). They were topped with Fried Egg, Avo, Salsa and JalapeƱos plus a Chipotle sauce. The dish was nice, but the eggs were a little undercooked and the slimy film on top wasn't too appetising. After picking it off it was a nice, light dish with fresh flavours. Not a very substantial meal though so don't order it if you're hungry. L had the Poached Eggs on Toast ($12.50) with bacon, mushrooms and avo on the side (extra $). Eggs were cooked well but bacon was overcooked and burnt. A little too crispy. Coffee was smooth and easy to drink and staff were friendly. Liked the interiors too. Not sure if I'll return though - so many other cool cafes on the strip to try.
Rhondda Carnevale
An absolute must for a late night delight, what a find!! The food is nothing short of outstanding. Try the nachos not your average nachos. The white chocolate cheesecake is a surprise best dessert is amazing.

First time dining at young George and what a little hid gem it turned out to be. Amazing food and wonderful service. Great place to come in a group as you can share or a couple. Keep it up guys.

We went to Young George last night for my birthday dinner. Had never been there and found it by googling and using this app.

It was a great find! The vibe was relaxed and friendly. Busy but not hectic. I had two totally delicious cocktails and husband easily found a beer he liked.

We were advised how to order by the friendly waiter and took his advice, ordering lamb ribs from the small plates section, the heirloom tomato salad from the vegetables bit and the woodfired duck.

It was all totally delicious. The ribs were standout. Generous serve, an even number so it was easy to share them and with devine sauce and flavours.

Heirloom tomatoes were yummy too, with quinoa and fresh flavours. The duck was interesting, served on a waffle and with strawberries. I loved the sweet/savoury combo but my husband wasn't quite as keen.

We were comfortably full and impressed overall. If we lived closer I think we'd be back again soon.

We were feeling rather undecided about what to have for dinner on a Sunday night and decided on Young George based on their "wood roasted piggy with trimmings and cider $25".

Many menus these days have detailed descriptions of their offerings. Not Young George. The menu reads simply and they let the food do the talking!

What arrived was, beautifully cooked pork, a zucchini, sweet corn and white cabbage slaw, a salsa made with multicoloured cherry tomato halves, a side of smokey bbq sauce and a crepe. The seasoning was perfect and you could taste the original flavours of the produce.

We also ordered the pork cheeks with fermented cabbage and apple. Pork cheeks were crispy and not overly salty. Cabbage was crunchy and a nice tang. Apples tasted like they had been infused with coriander. It was so unexpected and enjoyable.

We were so pleased with the mains we decided to try a dessert- It was alright.

All in all we thought the food was top notch. We liked their concept, their creativity, that the meals were balanced and complete ( we didn't need to order a side of vegetables) and the execution.

We'll be back to try the other dishes!

We came to this place on a Wednesday night. It was really noisy and crowded and we were seated near the door. We ordered mutton tacos and beef short rib. The tacos were very flavoursome and the meat juices were flowing. The short ribs were very tasty but wuite peppery. For dessert I ordered the malteezer which wad like a deconstructed malteser. It was very good and creamy with a chocolate meringue base. The service was extremely bad and we had to walk to find a waiter 3 times.

We were two couples dining out on a Saturday night and although it was very busy, the wait staff were polite, professional, efficient and friendly! Food was excellent!!!! Everybody needs to try the potatoes! It's on the menu and is served with a divine dip! The pork, tacos, and beef were excellent and beautifully presented and of course their beers are par extraordinaire! Well done Young George! I would recommend you in a heart beat!

Amazing food presented artistically. The flavour combinations are always perfectly balanced. Fabulous service in a funky atmosphere. I've been here 4 times and every time it gets better. Can't wait to go back

Only been here once so far. We followed another reviewer's recommendation and had the duck with prosciutto - and some wine and snacks. We'll be back.
Corner building in a delightful restored old part of East Fremantle. Worth a visit day or night.

Came in for some drinks and nibbles one evening. Two Words. Duck Prosciutto. Epic, epic dish. The duck was astounding and beautifully plated with cornichons, wholegrain mustard and quality bread. Worth a try. Duck Prosciutto.

Great food and knowledgable and friendly staff. Have the ramen fried chicken!!!!! So so so good! Cute little heritage building. We will be back.

Tried this place for lunch with work colleagues during the week. Our thoughts- This place is a rip!!! The wings, burgers and tacos are what you can get at a takeaway joint. The mains are overpriced and what you could make at home for much less and the desserts aren't anything special either. They had a bottleo also which had a good variety. George street is a great location but there are plenty of other options worth to. Give this place a miss.
KutsikFood
Fabulous food, conscious cocktails and savvy service. A great experience for an intimate evening or a group get together. I recommend this place of you are in East Freo and looking for quality.

Rainy and chilly morning with great flat white in a mug and watching the street view, what a great morning. Son in law eggs, crispy pork hash, sambal oelek Mayo, herb salad....... OMG this is the dish I will die for, is a "Must " try dish.
Crispy tortillas, chipotle, fried eggs, avocado, salsa, jalapenos was devine.
Very friendly service.
I might be wrong but still have to mention I really can smell a very strong bleach smell, maybe they use to clean the floor.

The Breakfast Confidential
George Street in East Freo is this little foodie hub tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the main city of Fremantle. Thereā€™s a handful of cafes and restaurants that are all worth visiting, but on this occasion I was there to dine at Young George. Set in a typical heritage style building, this restaurant has a warm vibe and friendly staff to match. The open kitchen is great for watching the magic happen or to salivate from food envy as you watch the plates whisk by.
Irene Ellora
Gorgeous food! The brioche for the French toast was deliciously moist and soft. My son in law eggs was interesting but in the most delightful way! The hit from the chilis definitely woke me up in the morning! The eggs were cooked perfectly and the sambal oelek mayo really complimented the salad that accompanied the eggs! Being Mother's Day, it was very busy but the service was on point and the atmosphere was fabulous!
Molly Grigson
It's located in a really nice spot on a corner. Nice and quite. It's nice and quirky. Only down fall is food took an hour to come out and on my order they forgot the avocado
The Life Of A Designer
A local gem of Fremantle, Young George is situated just off the Canning Hwy and is a mix of a bottle shop and a wine bar. The wine bar is situated inside the old existing Fremantle terrace house with exposed bricks, and low ceiling, while the restaurant is located in the modern part of the Victorian building. The restaurant features a great extension at the back of the room, which offers a great contrast in between each style. We can see it from the flooring, which is kept as a timber flooring in the original part of the building and polished concrete through the extension.

$15 pizza and beer sounds like your every day promotion, but holy crap those pizzas were so worth it! Friendly and helpful waitress also let me swap the beer for a glass of wine. Will be back!
Foodrinkperth
Fabulous evening! Recommend this local neighbourhood gem! Tasty food, well priced and some different food combos! Stand out dish the nachos beef tartare with fried Jalopeno! Excellent staff with attentive service!

Seem to be a bunch of mixed reviews of late. I came in looking for something to take away, anything really, food or drink. I asked if they did take aways and they did. Waitress was completely useless and unhelpful and more interested in chatting to the guy eating his meal at the bar. The menu looked more suitable for dining in so I asked the PMT waitress what would be a good dish to take away. She responded with Well it depends what you like. YOU DON'T SAY. The fact that I'm asking for a recommendation or your help means I'm happy to trust your expertise! Clearly she had none. Sadly I'm still tempted to return as the menu does look good, but I'm in no hurry. Lucky there is the amazing George Street Quarters 2 seconds away!
Dan The Cake Man
A few years ago I came here for some drinks and it was a great place to hang out. Being in George Street it is away from the bustle of Freo, but still has the Freo vibes in a relaxed and friendly way. Having studied the menu before I went, it was varied and inspiring, not the same old same old. This I had to try after having done a few breakfasts out this week.

Upon entering I was surprised how big the place is; lots of nooks and crannies to sit, relax and enjoy the paper and watched slow pace go by on the street. They had several papers waiting for customers; bonus score! The car mural has gone to lighten up the place a little more.

Service is table service here, and I was promptly greeted by a very friendly waiter. He took my order for long Mac and the son in law eggs, crispy beef hash, sambal oelek mayo, and herb salad.

Coffee came out quick, and I have to mention, as very few places do this right, it came out super-hot. I love when the coffee is more than just warm, and the flavor was strong and perfect. My son in law eggs arrived before I was half way through my caffeine fix. Beautifully presented and again hot. This dish had all the flavours, this is what a breakfast dish should be something to kick the buds awake. That it did and more! It was spicy, sweet, crispy and slimy, all good. Eggs were cooked perfectly with nice runniness of gold when I cut them. Maybe the eggs could have had a crispier coating, but all in all the dish was a joy to eat. If only more breakfast places served up dishes that packed a punch, then it would be hard to choose where to go! I will be back for sure, and also want to try their lunch/dinner menu.
Sue Somerly
Really loved this place, a nice little gem in East Freo.

Relaxed vibe and service.

I thought it was well priced and the servings were generous.

I loved that it wasn't the stock-standard menu - everything seemed so new and different to what the competition has to offer. And everything we had was absolutely delicious.

Will be back!
Paige AC
Great service and fantastic attitude from all three staff members encountered. Love the decor - some music to add a bit more texture to the atmosphere would go a long way.
Sheral Foodie
There is bother better then a waitress mutilating an order then blaming the customer for 'not ordering properly.' The Kale salad was average. No stars. Poo.
Affili.atewithfood
Overpriced and overrated. Venue has potential to be amazing. It used to be a wicked Spanish tapas bar - return to it. Expensive, confused cuisine is not a necessity in East Freo. Everyone has different tastes, I agree, but this does not float my boat.
Carraghgordon
A group of us made a late booking here on a Saturday night. We liked the menu and the fact it's a little like tapas, you order a few things between you to share. One of the group was vegetarian so we ordered a few vege things that normally we probably wouldn't get. BUT I think the veg dished were the stand out, they were delicious!! Every single dish we got was beautiful, tasty, imaginative and really reasonably priced! We had a great time. Only slight complaint would be our waitress was quite rude, but maybe that's just because we were a late booking... Over all great place, hats off to the chefs.

RATED Young George - Yes Yes Yes ... 6 of us went for dinner on a wintery night

This venue has always had a very freo welcoming atmosphere but now its is doing some great flavoursome nosh. The floor service friendly but did not prepare us for the feast of food to come. We tried a mix of share food including the beef chop chop, spatchcock, ribs, cuttlefish, pork, duck, lamb & couple of the winter veg dishes & pumkin pie ( maybe a slight miss not to her palate ) all were executed with great flavour & ample portion. The wine which is more my thing the californian bogle zinfuldel was big & bold & the barossa iz way shiraz was a cracker of a drop. As locals well sort off ( nrth freo) we definatley recommend you revisit or try for first time this new menu caters for all & we also welcome to freo the new head chef melissa, we will back soon... Next time we will walk : )...

Young George is a favourite of ours, we drop in on a regular basis for a glass or two and a quick snack. However there has been too many changes of late. Ā A change in the menu is expected but where have all the regular staff members gone?? And the sofas? Ā Not sure if Young George is a Bar or Restaurant these days? Ā Also the choice of Australian wine by the glass in very limited. Ā I prefer the 'old' Young George to the new.

Food was pretty good and the atmosphere was nice, but it's been a very long time since I've experienced such poor customer service at a cafe. Waited for over 25 minutes to have an order taken (prompted), and the waitress was rude, uninterested, and got the order wrong without sincere apology. Other staff were friendly and well-meaning but the mood was already soured. Shame.
Cassie Tanadi
Hidden treasure! Took me a while to actually find how to get in... But when I finally my way in the interior was amazing. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming. I had the truffle mushrooms and the flavors were really good. We also had the ramen chicken burger which was interesting but delicious.

A new chef in the kitchen creating new menus is an exciting thing. All the more so when the new chef has the creative flair of Melissa Palinkas. You may have previously enjoyed Chef Melissaā€™s food in Mt Hawthorn at The Cabin or at one of her pop up Alphabet Soup Dining events at various venues around town (currently with truffle on the menu at 399 Bar) but recently she became part owner and executive chef at Young George in East Fremantle.
Gabrielle Trenbath
I love this place - it is well decorated and has a nice vibe. The food is amazing (esp the Pizzas) and the coffee is great. The staff are attentive and efficient
Mattyboyz92
My new favourite. Can not rave about this place enough! Such a cool venue with an amazing fitout. A casual chilled out vibe, nice and cozy on a cold night. The food is beyond excellent, the pizzas have the perfect crust and the best topping combinations, the handout chips are the best I've had and the Mac n Cheese, the Choc Carmel sundae is to die for. The staff are effortlessly cool, friendly and attentive. Oh and the playlist alone is reason enough to come here, a great mix of old and new with some classic gems and indie favourites. Definitely my new favourite!!!
Foodislife
Yummy food but allergy danger!. I never thought I'd find somewhere that does chips aswell as Little Creatures, never mind better! The pizzas are also pretty yummy. However, to not advise that a dish is covered in peanuts is pretty dangerous when you're allergic! The 'glazed pork belly with vietnamese slaw' (as advertised on the menu) isn't an ideal choice when you have a peanut allegry. As soon as I queried whether the nutty topping was peanut, the lovely waitress organised a peanut free version but to have known this before hand would have eliminated any risk and inconvenience. Over all, Young and George have created a lovely and relaxing atmosphere with nice food and great wine.

Prawn pizza fail. I just got the prawn pizza delivered, a generous zero from ten

That Pizza. Holy Moly. That pizza is to DIE for. I dont think I've had a pizza that good in Perth ever. So delicious everytime.
The wine and beer selection is great and the service is always friendly :)

Went there with friends on Sunday afternoon the place was empty,we sat at a unreserved table within half hour we were asked 3times if we were eating. The waitress then came along and asked if she could put a reserved on the table so we could sit there till 6.30,we said we would order food and we wanted to stay at this table, baffling considering there was other empty tables.food was nice ,

The tasty food and friendly service means that we will be back. I recommend the pork belly and pizzas with their light and crispy base.
Gourmet Critic
Scrambled Order of Orders - Young George needs maturation ... 'comes when it's ready!'. 'Comes out when it's ready ...' lots of connotations here but as an opening remark by a delightful young waitperson (why do they have to wear tiny shorts sexism for sale?') it said lots about Young and George (George Street in East Fremantle) - apparently part-owned by a food critic, 'Rob?'. We gave this hotch-potch of sometime morning juice bar, one-time good cellar, beer and pizza delivery centre and its set of menu papers (ordering arrangements difficult to comprehend - especially in light of first remark above) ...a fair chance - arriving early (they apparently set a 90 minute time limit for diners?) and it now looks like an untidy cafeteria - with utensils, serviettes open to fly-blowing on a steamy afternoon, milk jugs for water (leftovers from previous owners) ...odd furniture and tables in strange configurations - not a great first impression for my guests and no cold glasses for the beer at up to $12.50 a stubby! Drinks a little slow in coming and in keeping with what turned up after 30 minutes - two pizzas - before any starter shared plates and then (at the 15 minutes to go before being asked to move on/out) the final of our five dishes came out - a salad, which would have taken minutes to prepare - thank goodness we didn't order sweets or coffee. The process is wrong and diners need some direction written on the walls and in a more simplified menu - I suspect this is now somewhere between a thongs and singlets/once a business-suit place that used to have class - our unintended pizza entrees were little better than the local multi chains and twice as expensive - and our salad or 'sweet' was left limp ...it came when it was ready ...time to rethink, Rob et al?

Had a great dinner with the family this evening, a gorgeous pizza, mac cheese and squid, all was beautiful. The staff were fantastic to our two children. Would definitely return.
Bo On The Move
Love this place but please don't ask me if I'm leaving. I really like this place. It's got a great buzz about it.

What I don't like is that every time I have been here I get there earlyish so that I can have a table to sit at and leisurely have a drink. I like to sit with friends and chat sometimes I eat there but I never know whether we will eat or not. So I make sure I sit at an unreserved table.\

Without fail I have been asked by the staff if we would mind vacating the table by a certain time. The last time I was asked this I asked the waitstaff if it had been set for a reservation. The answer was the reservation just came in,

Dear Young George please do not attempt to evict me from a table where I have spent good money and brought friends to just to pop someone else in. I will be rejecting your offer to leave in the future.

Thanks

Pizza delivery. Worst pizzas! Delivered cold. Limited toppings and completely overpriced. Don't waste your time and money!

Young George knows what's up.. Wandered in to Young George early one Saturday evening to beat the dinner rush. Sat on the couches in the front window. Drank fantastic wine and snacked on delicious, fresh, authentic wood fired pizza. Was told the pizza chef is from Italy and it shows. Best pizza base EVAAAHH. Also couldn't go past the mac and cheese. Very tasty. Picked up a bottle of wine from next door and waddled home. Loved every second.

Contented. Last night we had great tapas style entrees and pizzas with friends, plus, we all loved our cocktails, wine chosen. Service was fine.
Thanks, we are all return customers. Much needed in local vicinity, thanks!

Spot on! Atmosphere, service, food! Definitely will become a regular. And if all the negative comments they get is that they were so good before, get on board this place hits the nail on the head.

Finally somewhere selling REAL pizzas. After hearing rumblings of a new pizza spot selling authentic real woodfire pizzas i had to check out Young George. The menu was original, fresh and the pizza was hands down the best ive had in Perth and certainly a game changer from the current pizza scene. Along with the great eats was the vibe the place had to it, this is the spot!

Best pizza i have eaten. I can no longer eat pizza from anywhere else. Young George have totally nailed it. The base is absolutely perfect and the topping combo's are elegant and fresh and DELICIOUS. I haven't been able to stop raving about these guys since I ate my first slice. Oh and the chicken wings are insanely good.Oh and the morning coffees are spot on as well!!

Great pizza. Great vibe. Great crew.. LOVE Young George!! These guys have nailed it - amazing venue, great atmosphere, smart wine list, attentive service and unbelievably good pizza. Chocolate, peanut brittle & caramel Sundae is to die for.
Contrary to loubeany review (who clearly doesn't get out much) the prices are so reasonable...although she is right on the pizzas being the best on Perth ;)

A little expensive but totally worth it. Tried the new young George last night for a takeaway pizza.

Tried calling but the number went straight through to answer service which is odd.
My hubby ordered the pizza in restaurant and sadly no where to sit and wait for pizza which is awkward.

Got the pizza home and it was piping hot. Some of the best toppings I have had on a pizza in Australia. Best dough base I have eaten in oz and it was thin crispy and delicious. Don't like paying so much for a pizza but to be honest they are superb so it's worth shelling out. They have also delivered to me in mosman park which is very kind of them.

A few weeks ago we went to The Wine Store and Kitchen for dinner. We loved it and couldn't fault a thing. So much so that we went back the following morning to try breakfast. We live in the city and don't go to Freo that often so that gives you a good idea of how much we liked it. Tonight we experienced the Young George. Why the name change? Why the menu change? It was a winner before but tonight we were not impressed. The menu is cheaper as in what's on offer. The portions are smaller and the quality wasn't there. Some of the old dishes are still on offer but definitely not as good. Is there a new chef?
The service was ok. Our main waitress was nice and honest about the offerings. We did notice though that as the night progressed we got less attention. We could easily have had more drinks.
The love has gone.
