Review Sea Bay Hand-made Noodle - Eastwood

Lina
We first got take away and was so impressed, usually take away the quality can change but I guess these handmade noodles are so thick that it doesn’t go soggy easy. We really liked the mala spicy beef noodle soup so came back for this again and we still love it. Tried the xinjiang chicken noodle, we almost ordered medium size but the waitress was so considerate she told us that might be too much food for us so suggested a smaller portion. This saved $10 and food wastage. Overall the prices are so cheap here for the amount of servings you get. Overall the customer service was amazing. The waitress was so attentive and friendly. She apologised when our last dish took awhile but we weren’t bothered as we were enjoying our first main and dumplings. She even warned us upfront how long the pan fried dumplings may take anyway. I’ve been to other places too but this overall is great quality, service and value. Highly recommend

Enjoyed the food here, especially the five spice beef and the handmade noodles. Will come back to try more dishes. Very reasonably priced.

Average priced food, taste was aunthentic, and got a spicy chicken and veggie dish, only and a major gripe was that the chicken was mostly bones. Was spitting out a bone with every bite. Not sure if it was an experience unique to myself or if it’s meant to be served like this (probably not) but was quite disappointed.

4.7 - Style: Northern Chinese Food. Handmade noodles, soups, and dumplings. They've updated their menu. Plenty of cold dishes. The texture of the noodles (chopped, stir-fried or in soup) are springy and delicious. The amount of variety is amazing. Lamb skewers and buns are definitely a must-try and simple dishes like stir-fried Vegetables and Mushrooms will have your tastebuds singing! Today, I had Flavour Noodles and Snow Pea Sprouts - Yum!

Sea Bay has just received a nice reno/face lift, making the store look super modern and inviting. Dishes are generous and tasty. We shared the chopped noodles between 2 ladies. It was the perfect amount for us and the noodles had that great homemade quality/taste.

If you want real food and great service this place is a gem. This feels like home. Must try guys.

Their handmade dumplings and noodles are legit. I still don't get how they do it but I keep coming for more. They've got plenty of vegetarian dishes and they do it extremely well. For the price you pay, the quality and quantity is superb value.

Yummy hand made noodles. Good selection of chinese food. Decor not much, food very good. I ate in and took a couple of dishes home. Will be back.

Busy and efficient restaurant in a quiet corner of the busy area of Eastwood. Unique decorating with the items on the menu being shown on the walls. Quite cheap considering how big the noodle dish was. The noodles were slightly hard to chew and they were very loud. They gave us LOTS of noodles which we struggled to finish. The dumplings was delicious with the dough being quite thick.

Seabay is my go-to place in Eastwood whenever I am craving noodles. I highly recommend their Spicy beef noodle and garlic chili oil noodles. Their dumplings are also fantastic, though you do have to wait 15 minutes as they hand-wrap them. The pricing of the food is very reasonable and the portions are large. I took 1 star off for the service as the staff really aren't too attentive or polite but I will keep on coming back just for the food.

Very nice handmade noodles shop.
I love their chicken broth & strong texture noodles.
Also handmade dumpling with black vinegar and chili oil is good! Yam.

Visited the Seabay in Cabramatta but unfortunately a store hasn’t been set up on Zomato for that location so I’ll post my review here.

Pork Burger: 2/5. The pork was quite dry and salty and reminded me of pork floss. I’ve tried pork burgers in other locations and the meat is a lot juicier. The bread was a bit stale.

Pan Fried Pork buns: 4/5. I was really pleasantly surprised by the super soft top texture of the bun and crunchy base. though the bottom was a bit burnt, this was my favourite dish. I feel they were a bit stingey with the pork and soup filling but great nonetheless.

Xiao Long Bao: 2/5. Was extremely disappointed in this dish because there was no soup at all. Would probably try again but was keen for soup dumplings :(

Steamed chicken and mushroom buns: 2/5. I usually go for pork and chives as my preferred filling but we tried out chicken and mushroom today. I thought it was okay to try but wouldn’t order again.

Overall, a good experience and I will be returning to the Cabramatta location to get my Shanghai fix!

Whenever I see a restaurant that has handmade noodles, i must give it a try and Seabay didn't let me down. Their signature dish is the Xin Jiang style chicken with their thick/flat handmade noodles. Servings are generous and we had to take away too. Service was probably a bit lacking, but it was quite busy when we were there. Will have to visit again as the menu is extensive and the quality of food was good.

This place is always my go to place for noodles and dumplings. The fried noodles were a good portion size and very tasty. Steamed dumplings were delicious and tasted fresh.

Large menu, very decent pricing and great authentic flavour! Great place for a quick tasty place to eat at, just don't expect any service, but the food and price makes up for it!

Really good handmade noodles and dumplings.

I particularly like the fried handmade noodles (although the pork is mince, so I prefer the other meats), the fried dumplings, and also the cold bean noodle.

The restaurant layout is long and narrow which is not so convenient, and the service can be hit and miss, but the food is great
Rita
The customer service is horrible. I don’t want to try again. They made a mistake and told us they can do nothing about that. I will never ever go to this restaurant again and I will tell all my friends of my experience.

This is one of my favourite places for a feed in Eastwood. I have been here a few times and I always enjoy the food! A very classic choice is the beef soup with hand made noodles. It’s simple and light, but done well. However, my absolute favourite go to are the fried hand made noodles. There’s just something about them that I can’t resist, and they are the ultimate comfort food. The noodles always have great flavour and the portion size is very generous for me personally.

I've also tried the chicken soup with hand made noodles and their fried chives egg buns (it's more of a pancake though), both of which are super enjoyable as well. Service is average, but you can't expect much in Eastwood and it's good enough when all you need to do is order your food. This restaurant epitomises what fairly cheap-ish and hearty asian food is all about.

Sea Bay is one of those restaurants that only few dishes well. To a point it iconic, I crave for that lamb spicy hand made noodle. It's amazing! Once a month...
Pan fried dumplings is best you get, the texture and flavor is truly unique.
Then there lamb skewers, decent and consistent.

Joint seems popular with the locals. While waiting for my takeaways, phone almost never stopped ringing. Apparently peeps ordering takeaways as well.

The veg dumplings were nothing spectacular 2.75/5. The fried hand made noodle w chicken 2.75/5 was again, like other noodles shop in the area, over-cooked. I guess most of their customers like it that way? I prefer it al-dante.. that said the flavour was alright.

Summary: Staff have terrible customer service and attitude. They switch off their lights to try to encourage customers to leave before the stated closing time (official closing time: 10pm ; actual time they want to leave: 9:45pm) without saying anything.

Full review: Staff have poor customer service. The Burwood branch is a lot better in all respects.

As an example, we were still eating as it was approaching closing time and they turned off half the lights to try and "hurry us out". You have a mouth. Use it. Give us a friendly reminder that you are about to close and would like to us to leave soon. We will not be offended.

I was still in the middle of eating when this occurred and I was eating at an average speed. About 5 minutes later as I tried to frantically finish my food, we were also asked to "pay first" which I was fine with. I asked whether it was possible to do a split payment to which they refused. Fair enough - many restaurants refuse to split bills and I accept that, but their attitude was appalling, rude, unfriendly, unwelcoming.

Whilst I was distracted paying, my bowl of noodles which I had not yet finished was then taken from me to be cleaned up. Yes, the waitress asked if she could take it, but it was obvious I wasn't done, was distracted (I was busy paying) and I even responded with, "I guess? Don't you guys close at 10pm?" to which she said "No. 9:30pm." - what does your sign say? It was 9:45pm at this time.

Not coming back here ever again.

There's no shortages of Chinese cuisine in Eastwood, but there's not many places around that do hand-made noodles. This place isn't rated very highly, but I think it's a decent eat for the price and the size of their dishes. You can tell by the people in the restaurant eating by themselves that this is more of a place you go when you need a quick meal that tastes like home.

We ordered the Hand-made noodles with Lamb and the Chicken with flat noodles, both costing $13.80 each. Firstly, the portions are huge! It's great because you only need one dish to fill you up. I really love the hand made noodles - they're chewy and thick and just the way you want them to be. There wasn't too much meat in the stir fry unfortunately, but it had a lot of flavour to make up for it. If you love your carbs, this is the place to go.

Downside is that the staff here really only speak Chinese. If you don't speak it, be prepared for a lot of gesturing at the menu. Will be back when that handmade noodle craving hits me again!

Look I don't know why people are expecting a 5 star Chinese culinary experience when they go to Seabay.
But if you are feeling lazy and are keen to drown yourself (for both the night, and lunch the next day) in thick, chewy handmade noodles with a tasty sauce for $13.80 you have found a winner.

Edit: Price increase :'(

Despite the bad reviews this place actually has some really good home made noodles. The noodles are chewy and firm. The Xin jiang style chicken is a good sharing option as it comes with 2 servings of noodles.

The service is average and apparently the waiters English isn't the best (we ordered in chinese) but still good for a flavoursome, very filling meal.

Good thing the noodles were actually really tasty, because it was quite the hurdle putting through the order. No one seemed to fully understand what I was asking but after an almost 10 minute phone call, the general message seemed to have gone through.

I don’t think they have an actual vegetarian noodle option on the menu because I did have to ask for it, and was told stir fried noodles were the only option. This was absolutely fine so went with it, but it did seem a bit of a rip-off as the cost was the same as the meat options but there weren’t a whole lot of vegetables, mostly noodles. Nevertheless, clearly the noodles are their specialty as it was delicious and worth getting again.

Unfortunately it went a little downhill from there with both the vegetarian dumplings and fried shallot pancake being rather average. Initially I was after the vegetarian spring pancake, but this was sold out and the lady on the phone mentioned the fried shallot pancake with no real explanation but I ordered it instead anyhow. Is it usually meant to be just pancake? Because where were the shallots? Tiniest specks ever, I could barely tell the difference if they were there or not and it was mostly just pancake. Reasonable taste but probably wouldn’t order it again.

The vegetarian dumplings were a little sweet and was mostly just carrot. They weren’t the best and I probably wouldn’t order these again either.

Noodles are the way to go here, no doubt about it.

Well, that was an ordeal. English these people do not speak. It took a good two minutes of asking what meat was in the dumplings to ascertain there was indeed meat in the dumplings. "wha mee? Yes, mee..." Same goes for asking no capsicum...as soon as she asked what, we just straight up said no vegetables. HOMG

Food itself was okay. The dumpling skins (by the way, it was pork inside) were a bit on the thick side, but the homemade noodles were good.

Visited here for the first time in over a year and their dumplings and handmade noodles are still good. However the dish was let down by an unbalanced "hot & sour" soup (not hot enough; too much vinegar).

Not a fan of sticky tables nor waiters that speak Manderin by default (and are unable to understand or communicate in English)...

OMG! It looks like they are finally reopen for business! My friend and I were devastated when they closed for renovation without any hint as to when they will reopen. Their spicy beef hand made noodle soup is the only reason we go there. Good soup + it's spicy enough for the spice lovers and chewy noodles! Other meals are 'ok'. Yes my review is biased. No one does that soup like they do anywhere in Sydney. Will be heading down soon.
Sweetandyummie
Good place if you just want pan fried dumplings and noodles. The servings are decent and the food always comes out quick. The atmosphere is relaxed and a good place if you just want to go in and out.
Tracey
Ordered the veggie pan fried dumplings and the veggie stir fried handmade noodles. All round mediocre, the stir fried noodles were lacking in flavour so we had to pour in our soy sauce/vinegar/chilli oil mixture. Overpriced for the quality and taste.
Just Feed Me
They do great stir-fried handmade noodles, can be a bit greasy but always delicious! The dumplings are good, not the best I've had but they're probably the best you can find in Eastwood. They usually say it's a 15-20 minute wait on the dumplings but I find that they always come out faster than that.

Would definitely recommend

Dumplings are pretty good (just above average - white guy's perception). The wait is what kills me... They always tell you that it will take 15 minutes to make, but they always take half an hour or longer...
Crème Brulee Crack
This place rocks my socks. At one point, I was so obsessed with this place that I came here once a week for a month. It is a hole in the wall with typical Chinese restaurant service, but such comfort food! The lamb skewers are tender and flavoursome every time. One of my favourites is the cold bean pasta with cooked mince, raw cucumber and a good concoction of vinegar and soy sauce. They got the ratio right, tasty but with a lovely tang. The handmade noodles are a gorgeous texture, fresh and springy.
Chow Yum Fat
The service at Sea Bay is appalling. The narrow interior of the restaurant with it's puke yellow walls and those nasty knocked-off Ken Done paintings (or whatever new age artist with a paint flicking technique you fancy) render the atmosphere a disgrace. The tables and seating are utilitarian at best and I can't say much for management because the staff are NEVER the same. These poor minimum wage fresh-off-the-boat mainland Chinese university students must be treated really, really badly.

There's a new horde of wait staff every time I visit. And yet I DO VISIT every couple of weeks because Sea Bay Eastwood offers quantity and quality of food that can't be argued with. I forget about the walls, the dirty tables, the ugly floor, the shouting, the yelling and the tactless service ONCE the food arrives. :-)

The dumplings whether, steamed, boiled or fried are absolutely delicious. The seasoning is always on the money, the right balance of soy, sugar, a little cabbage or chives. At under eleven dollars a plate and featuring up to twelve or more dumplings, I can't stop when they arrive at the table. You'll want more when you're done with the plate. Wrappings are occasionally too thick but it's a good indicator none of this stuff has been processed out of a machine. Old granny is still out the back wrapping these delicious little parcels with love and care.

The North Western style Lamb Skewers are (I think) prepared over hot coals. With a slight char to them, the fragrance of the cumin really gets my appetite going. Slightly fatty, the meat is juicy as (!) on the metal skewers. I eat them like they're lollipops. Stir fried dishes are good too. Snow pea sprouts are gently seasoned with salt and a hint of sugar for balance, tossed in a hot wok and served ASAP. A great way to balance a meal where the carb load is high and full of deep fried oily items (depending on your ordering tendencies) The Black Fungus and Omelette stir fry is pretty awesome too and goes really well with a bowl of freshly steamed jasmine rice.

And let's not forget my favourite lunch meal - the Spring Pancakes. A thin wrap, prepared in a pan envelopes moist, tender glass noodles, finely sliced lamb or beef, black fungus, shallots and crunchy bean sprouts. When you order you'll get two, both cut in half, which means four portions. Great for sharing. And if you're by yourself this is all you need to order as it's pretty filling.

This list goes on, cold bean pasta, hand made wok fried noodles, spring onion pancakes. It's all damned tasty and damned cheap. Go for it. Eat until you drop. It won't hurt your wallet one little bit.

Seabay Handmade Noodle in Eastwood is a very narrow restaurant in size. The 68% like rate on urbanspoon is about on the money, I would have said around the 70% mark for cheap and cheerful Chinese restaurants. On the wall, there is a huge sign with the dishes and prices. For non-Chinese, you may feel intimidated by all the Chinese characters and the small shop front entrance but it's definitely worth a try.

The epitomy of cheap and cheerful, Seabay Handmade Noodle Restaurant in Eastwood has menu items that are around the $10-$13 mark and the servings are generous.
