Review Hong Kong Recipe - Eastwood

Very busy here. But, the taste was pretty good and very classic . Also, the prices are cheaper than someone else. Anyway, must be recommended.

Cheap and cheerful food. Very honest advice from one of the younger staff on the dishes that are to be avoided and the recommended dishes. Appreciate that. Food is generally authentic and good portioned. Deep fried items (e.g. fries) definitely have room for improvement. Pan fried dishes are good though.

If you’re looking for traditional Hong Kong style dishes, this is a must for you to try! The value for money means that I will come back again and again when I have my cravings. What this place lacks in service though, they make up for in portion servings and taste. French toast; Chicken cutlets with spaghetti; Pork chops with tomato, cheese and rice; Satay seafood fried rice

They have really delicious food here, everyone loves it, even the roaches here love it. Everyone please don't come here unless if you want the roaches here sharing with your food.

If you are after quick and cheap Chinese food this is the place to be! Very similar to a HK style cafe you’d find in HK!

Authentic, Hong Kong style experience. Tasty food at good prices, served quickly. Service is fast paced - don’t expect any niceties here!

Dirt cheap food thats tasty enough. Obviously a proper seafood restaurant has far better quality but at 3x the price. Get beef brisket dishes as they have the biggest meat portions compared to chicken, pork, fish, or beef topside dishes. Also get the borscht (luo song tang) - large size. less than $5 for a huge bowl of healthy tomato vegetable soup with some beef. Killer value. ALSO stop complaining about the 'poor' service- its part of HK cha chaan teng culture that there is minimal service to keep the cost of your meal as low as possible. You cant hope to expect any service when youre paying this little for food.

Really good authentic Hong Kong style cafe serving good Cantonese food. Very similar in style to cafes in Hong Kong. We had the beef brisket soup noodle with special herbs, which was delicious. Also had chicken fried E-Fu noodles, which were also very good but a little bit chilli. The iced lemon tea is also very good. There don’t seem to be enough service for the number of patrons though so service can be a little patchy. Arrive early as the place does get very busy on the weekends. The laksa is pretty average, a bit watery for my taste

In my opinion, this place is kind of underrated.

It's got some pretty good HK options plus some random Chinese options too. Just stick to the HK side and you'll be fine. Prices are cheap and service is quick so just drop by if you want a quick feed.

As a note, it is on the Korean side so don't get confused.

Extremelly RUDE and BAD Customer Service!
Not family friendly! DONT WASTE YOUR TIME to celebrate any birthday party there.
There are plenty other good restaurants in Eastwood. Dont destroy your mood by going here!

From what I can remember, this has been around for years. You can find pretty much all your typical Hong Kong Cha charn teng (Cafe) dishes here. My favourite is the baked rice dishes such as the beef brisket with Portuguese sauce and baked pork chop rice in tomato sauce. I saw they also have value sets which has a few options with soup of the day for a discount price.

Excellent value of money joint with lots of variety. We usually come here every month. This time we had the:
- OX sauce fried rice with pork chop (crowd favourite)
- Egg sauce fried rice noodle (kids favourite)
- Baked pork chop rice (HK style dish)

Good and tasty. Just come early and it tends to get filled up pretty quick, weekend or not!

I’d also recommend they stir fry eggplant with rice. Spicy (but not too much) with lovely soft pieces 🍆.

Has a rule that everyone must order something. Seafood fried rice with XO sauce doesn't actually have XO sauce. Waiters will glare at you when you ask them questions. You get what you pay for. So cheap food equals cheap service.

Food came out promptly and steaming hot! The milk tea wasn’t too strong or sweet and was perfect. Service was a bit slow. Atmosphere was nice and spacious and clean. Very cheap prices as well!

Extremely affordable and authentic Hong Kong cuisine. Highly recommend. Tomato sauce baked pork chop with fried rice, and lemon ice tea is my go to.

Come here if you want to experience HK culture - the place is loud, the tables aren’t that clean, the waiters are rude and always rushing past you. The food is great for value, flavoursome for a good price. Have eaten here regularly because the menu is huge, always something new to try!

Being a Hong Konger in Sydney I liked this restaurant, spoke cantonese and shared a table with another group, like in hk, menu is in traditional chinese, had 港式西餐 for lunch under $15. 吉列雞扒餐+黑椒汁+湯+奶茶, chicken steak was good but is it just me, the black pepper favour is a bit too much, like other cha chaan teng’s black pepper, milk tea is good
Jack
Creates a true and authentic ambience of a typical Hong Kong outlet. Had breakfast and the flavours takes me back to the streets of Hong Kong. They even have the chairs to match!

Old school HK style cafe/diner. The place's starting to get a little dated too. The service is ok, as expected. Had a sliced fish congee with a side of fried Chinese doughnut. The congee was average, there were fish pieces, but pretty much nothing else except for a few shreds of ginger. The soup base was not particularly flavoursome. The doughnut was freshly fried so was hot & good.

I go there because I like HK style milk tea. Food is average there, most are very oily (eg noodles soup and stir fry). As usual HK cafe, don't expect for service, they talk loud, impatient to explain the food and always try to fit a number of people group (mostly single or couple) in a single table. Hong Kong style!!
BAD BAD BAD, POOR SERVICE, POOR FOOD
Although their price are not expensive, but they make the taste very bad. Their attitude of their staff are very rude and make me dissatisfied. I have order a ice milk tea but finally give me ice coffee. I complaint to the staff but they just say they didn't make it wrong. And then I complaint to the boss, but he refuse to change for me. I definitely won't come back.
Hong Kong style Cantonese food. Food is hit & miss, depending on what you order. I only eat here because my wife loves their HK iced milk tea.

Their fried rice noodles are pretty good because it has that nice charred smokey smell. Meats used in most dishes are low quality, so don't expect too much because prices here are pretty cheap.

Good place for a quick cheap meal!

Service is quick.

Located in the mall with Aldi, Hong Kong Recipe is a cheap asian joint. Some of the reviews are a little harsh, some justified. Don't expect 5 star service or gourmet food. But you get what you pay for.
Ps. They do have english menus...just need to ask if required.

Classic chinese restaurant vibes, the waiter seemed incompetent, the food was hit and miss, some were good some were awful, price was cheap, I guess you get what you pay for. Would come again, rice noodles are good here.

Cheap, average food (you get what you pay for), comes out pretty quick.
Made couple of errors with our order but we didn't make a fuss.
Poor service though.
My parents wanted to make a booking for 11 people. When we asked for 2 tables they said no and pointed at a round table that would sit maximum up to 7 or 8 people. We said it was too small but they insisted that it is fine and 11 people can fit and then asked me if I wanted to cancel the booking then.

This place is classic. Today I went there and dropped a fork on the floor. A middle aged waitress saw that, came over, picked it up and put it back on my table. Did she mean I should just re-use it? You can imagine the hygiene in their restaurant.

Despite the restaurant size, this place is surprisingly crowded during Sunday lunchtimes so there is usually a wait time before you can get a table. I've been here a few times and the popular item appears to be their baked pork chop with tomato sauce on rice/spaghetti. It's not the best I've ever had (I actually preferred the one from the HK cafe in Carlingford Village but that has now closed down) but it is satisfying to eat on a cold day. Service isn't that great nor is cleanliness but it seems to be norm in Chinese restaurants in Eastwood.

Came here cause I was craving some Hong Kong style French toast and this one was far from anything like it, such a disappointment.

However my friend who had the the noodle soup said it was great and the chow mein crispy noodle was average/nice too.

Overall just average and does not remind me of Hong Kong food unfortunately.

Btw for those planning to go, the menu was all in Chinese!!

A local place I revisit whenever I crave classic Hong Kong cafe style food. Their menu include all the items you'd normally find in a HK cafe. Not pricey, plenty of seating - although it can get very busy during peak hours and weekends. As with any HK cafes, of course they have afternoon tea specials too.

Not the best service in the world, but it's a good place for a cheap, no frills meal.

Had a few good meals here which were very good. The service is slow but friendly. The one bad experience was when we ordered takeaway . The sizzling beef, one of the more expensive dishes, hardly contained any beef. It was just filled with onions. The special fried rice was hardly special either. If we had been given these in the restaurant I would have returned them. Despite this we will return.

Whenever we are here, we always have a crowd. Cheap, quick eats and always tasty. After 2pm there are afternoon tea specials for $6 something served with a free hot beverage, or if you want a cold beverage it's 80c extra. It's not a very spacious restaurant, and you don't always receive the best service, but you really just come here for the cheap eats

Always know what you're going to get here. A taste of Hong Kong for sure. Staff and food will remind you of Hong Kong. Very good for value, always a good quick feed here.

Food is good and is fast to come out. Gets busy and a little noisy but worth it for the food. Has an extended range of food and it's great quality.

I really love this place due to its authenticity of Hong Kong style Cantonese food. Similar to its Chatswood restaurant, it offers great Hong Kong style milk tea that I enjoy and think it is the best I have tasted in Sydney. There is a lot of variety of food on offer. But one of them I especially like is the steak (Chicken/Pork Chop/Mixed BBQ) set menu. It consists of a soup as a start, the main, and a drink like those in Hong Kong. There is also a small additional charge if you change the hot drink for a cold or special drink.

Service: 5/10
Food : 7/10
Ambiance: 6/10
Value for money : 9/10

Come to this hk style cha chaan teng (cafe) without expecting too much, and you might be pleasantly surprised by the dishes here. The food on offer here is typical hk Cafe food.. Nothing more, nothing less.. I ordered the baked chicken chop in tomato sauce and fried rice.. It was delish! My friend ordered the beef brisket noodles, and that was yummy too. Next time I will try the spaghetti stir fry with meat. Please note that if you ask for a plate of chilli, the first plate is free, but subsequent plates costs 60 cents.

Hong Kong Recipe Eastwood is the kind of place you drop into for a quick mid-afternoon carbohydrate hit. All the Honkie classics are served here including wok fried beef rice noodles (hor fun), baked pork chop fried rice and beef and egg sauce on rice. Comfort food, just like they do in Honkers.

The food is tasty and outrageously cheap - consider that an afternoon tea noodle set consisting of a beef brisket noodle soup and iced lemon tea amounts to a measly $6.80. Like I said, outrageous. I don't know another place that serves food this cheap in Sydney!

That being said the service is USELESS - most of the wait staff are made up of disgruntled and poorly trained students. You ask for things a minimum of three times before you get them. If you're up for a sugar spike at ultra low cost, this place is not bad. Just ignore the poor service, like they'll ignore you. LOL.

Don't bother. Worst so called restaurant i have ever had the misfortune of even stepping foot into. The terrible so called "food", using that term EXTREMELY loosely, is rivaled only by the equally horrific customer service. Apparently a cup of tea, which was neither asked for nor wanted comes at a cost of $1.3 per person unless a dish is ordered each. This rule was not made apparent to us at any point while we were ordering and we were only informed of this after the food had come along with the justification that "it says on the menu"... in about size two font. With that being said, $1.3 is cheap compared to the $7 congee which may as well be a glorified bowl of water. Save your time and money and go elsewhere.

We wanted cantonese style beef chow mein but wasn't on the menu (in a form that we could interpret) and the waitress suggested other forms of fried noodle (which we didn't want). Opted for something that we could read. Beef fried rice.

Tammi Kwok Eastwood really seems to be buzzing these days. Eateries and shops are popping up like daisies in spring, and I – for one – am NOT complaining. So today it’s off to Hong Kong Recipe, located underneath Aldi, for a quick dinner. I’ve actually considered Hong Kong Recipe a few times before when I was looking for lunch spots, but was slightly put off by the MASSIVE menu. I didn’t manage to glean the restaurant’s identity or signature dishes from a quick browse, so I’ve always ended up choosing to eat somewhere else. Well this time we finally made it in, and after spending ages deciding, we ended up ordering the Shandong Chicken and the Deep-fried Garlic Pork Ribs. Garlic Deep-fried Pork Ribs The service was very quick, which was a surprise, since the restaurant was filled to the brim with rather large families. They also remembered all the requests for the condiments – we never needed to ask twice – which was also quite impressive. The food came without much fanfare, as Chinese

Worst customer service in Sydney. We had a garlic deep fried pork ribs over there and it was BURNED. All the ribs are clearly over-cooked with dark dark brown color instead of the golden brown color that you would normally get. Some part of the ribs are nearly black color with all the pork meat dried and uglily stick to the bone. You can hardly peel the meat from the bone. We tried 4 of them which are less burned and it was already tough and bitter. The young lady who claimed that she is the owner was very ANGRY that we complained with the burned ribs. She said loudly and disgracefully into our face:" This is not how you call burned! If you don't like this, don't order next time! We use our oil for two days and if you come on the second day, the color is like this!" Wow wow wow, I wasn't expecting apologies but not the scrolling either. She even charged us for the 4 pieces we tasted. I used to like to come to this place but not anymore. They may have some cheap and tasty hongkie food but their attitude is disgusting. Worst customer service you will ever experience in Sydney. (I really wish I had the picture of the rest of the dish with more terrible burns, but they took it away)

Have been here twice.Last time felt good, but this time the fish is distasteful. Never heard of using frozen dead fish cooking steamed fish.

Lunching. The salty fish and chicken fried rice was delish! Love how you can taste and see the pieces of the fish.

Their baked spaghetti could really be worked on though. Sauce did not seem like it was made from real cheese, and it was more like a clear gravy. Not baked enough - when I think of baked spaghetti I want to see the char grilled cheese on top like they do at other Hong Kong kitchen places, so it was a disappointment.

Would go back to try other dishes though!
