If you are looking for THE BEST CHAI ever look no further!!! Made fresh in front of me (and served so perfectly) by the cafe owner who was the most lovely lady!! Go and "chai" it .... you won't be disappointed!
Come here for the Niravan Chai, nothing like you have ever tried before. Amazing flavours and great presentation. I know my Indian chai and this is the best in Melbourne and easily comparable with the quality available in Indian. The owner is lovely and personable. I would rate this place a 5 just for the chai.
Good food options but I bit of a miss. I tried the lamb bagel not very impressed but could be better with some improvements.
The delightful and friendly new owner is always very welcoming. This morning she recommended the Nirvana Chai. It was presented beautifully and turned out to be the best chai in Melbourne, with an amazing combination of delicious spices.
No wonder there are a lot of regulars and more people are discovering this interesting cafe just off Glenhuntly Road, almost opposite Officeworks, Elsternwick.
Go for the Nirvana Chai .....
Elsternwick is always a quirky suburb to go for my foodie experience; a blend of the old & the new world, plethora of Jewish bakeries, funky cafes, the people and just loaded with diversity.
This cafe is no different, modern but a little bit "worn" and a new operator in charge.
Food wise, brunch menu was enjoyable, above average and Latte was just average too (St Ali coffee beans?), however their Nirvana Chai made the 1 hour drive worthwhile ..... got to have it there, presentation, taste ..... and yes, we did visit a local Jewish bakery after, the joy of double dipping....... :-) on your day off.
All the very best to the new "lovely" and attentive operator ...... JT-25/07/2017.
Awesome all day brunch: put the Punjabi Chai (authentic family recipe) made with green cardamom, cloves and ginger on your bucket list! Generous serves and beautiful ingredients. We will be back!
Cosy cafe with great coffee and excellent customer service. Ideal place for weekend relaxation. I've been there few times and very satisfied.
Went there for breakfast this morning. Thought we will give it a go as it is now under new management. We were not disappointed. The big breakfast and sourdough with crispy bacon were very good and we had the best Chai Latte in town. Will definitely go back there again.
I went to Pound today to get a chai to take away, but the lovely owner convinced me to have it there, due to the way they serve it. I'm glad she did-it was delightful. A real chai made with cardamom, ginger, cloves and cinnamon. Would like to come back to try the food-lots of variety on the menu.
Really nice and well presented food.
After just one visit I'm quite conceived the 1 star reviewers below..all with new accounts...are fake reviewers written likely by nearby competitors.
Same fake reviews on Google.
The chips were amazing. Burger very good indeed.
I saw the mashed avo and it looked better than any id seen before.
Have no concerns in trying this cafe and shame pin those competitors writing the fake reviews below.
Dined today and after eating i was surprised this place was near empty. Food was incredible and portions very large. Coffee was also incredible. Good honest place a little bit off the beat and track in elsternwick. We will be back :)
Love this place! Awesome coffee made from Brazilian coffee beans and food is amazing looking and tasty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was totally blown away by the poor reviews for this cafe - there are too many unfulfilled people on this planet that always want to complain about something. I struggle to choose what I want to eat every time I visit here because everything on this menu I want! And what you get for the price is amazing, the new owners are doing a superb job and will do anything to please.
I don't understand the below reviews. I also came here on mothers day and I had a wonderful meal. We came in for brunch. The menu is very extensive with lots of things that I could have ordered. I settled on the pistachio crusted chicken burger with Asian slaw which was amazing. We ordered a large serve of fries which were larger fries, crunchy and cooked to perfection. My husband ordered the baked omelet which he said was great. My son ordered the wagu beef burger that he happily devoured. I don't drink coffee so they made me their house specialty chia latte using traditional spices - it is so good. The waitresses and the owner were all delightful. Next time I go,I'm going to order the pancakes with chocolate, apple and KitKat pieces. My sons have ordered it before and they say it is amazing - big enough for two people. Serving sizes are generous. We will be back again, in fact it is fast becoming our regular brunch venue on the weekends. Our experiences here have all been fantastic so not sure where all of the reviews from people that haven't given their proper names are coming from. Sounds very suspicious to me!
OMG!! Amazing service and lovely coffee, I don't understand their comments below, I have been there a few times before and never had a problem. I had an awesome waitress, super friendly and helpful, keep up the good work!
Being a local we are spoilt for choice in Elsternwick now. This is one of the hidden gems on a side street. While it lacks the bling of newly opened up places like Bang Bang. It does excellent coffee (probably better) and consistently very good food with great service. We stop here often for coffee. Last time there my partner ordered a coffee and I while not hungry after spotting Asaam Chicken curry on the menu, couldn't stop myself. Both were excellent and my partner ended up ordering a second coffee.
I have been kind of busy trying to find new places to eat. So it's be hard to revisit places, there are too many. This one I tried so long ago I can't remember when that was. Moreover, did I like it there? I seem to recall liking it, so why didn't I return?
Well today I did and I can confirm there is no reason to stay away. I left very happy, how could I not? I had just devoured their meditarian salad. So I will be ensuring I don't wait as long for my next visit.
Usually really like Pound, but we waited over an hour for our food which was unacceptable. The waitress did tell us that there would be a bit of a wait but an hour is too long. It would have been nice to have been given a free coffee as goodwill while we waited and waited and waited but nope. My sister said she will not go back there again.
If almost go as far as saying best coffee and breakfast this side of town. Coffee always spot on and food is always delish! Hard to spot and looks a little uninviting from the street but the service, food and coffee (and old school beats) make this place a true winner.
Mobile review. Outstanding! So far these guys are my favourite, coffee is fantastic (st. Ali) and food is delicious.
Calamari Salad. Super tender!!!!! Best calamari salad in world!! Chefs special seasoning and recipe!!!!! I use to hate rocket leaves, now I love it!!!!!!!
The food is good. I love this place. The food is always good and so is the coffee. Its relaxing, has wifi and the service is fast. An added bonus is the waiters do not have a hipster attitude which is refreshing for Melbourne.
Love Pound. We are regular breakfast/lunch eaters. Best eatery in the area
Fantastic Lunches!. Had shakshuka today for lunch and the presentation and taste was outstanding! Not my first visit there and certainly not my last. As a huge coffee drinker that I am, I have to say that their coffee was sensational as well.
I had a decent and well presented freekah salad which was fresh and very substantial. My drink came at a fairly rapid pace but the meal probably could've come quicker. Otherwise it was a very satisfying lunch.
Has been a long time favourite, feel it is starting to wane but still a good experience. Olive bread brekky or elsternwick eggs?!
Great coffee great food! Quinoa salad is delish!
Pound is one of the few places I've found that serves really good gluten and dairy free food! Not only is the food good but the coffee is great! Huge improvement when they changes coffees to a st Ali blend. Great staff too!!
Great place. It's a great place to work with a great cup of coffee or food.
I tried their mocha the first time and it had just the right amount of sweetness to it - not too much chocolate, just the way I like it.
Perfect Breakfast and Coffee. I love their breakfast and premium coffee. This restaurant offers high quality food and coffee. Their staff are very friendly. I definitely often go there to have breakfast and lunch.
Love the coffee. They changed coffee beans which is impressive, definitely love it
Worth your dollars at Pound. Recommended by a local Elsternwick friend and was not disappointed. Greated on arrival which is excellent, service was quick and friendly. Breakfast was really well presented and flavorsome. I had the Soft Breakfast Taco, beautiful folded eggs with a nice tomato relish, came with avocado on the side, gorgeous. My partner had the Elsterniwick eggs, eggs Benedict on a bagel which looked great and inspired them to announce to the world that 'this is what a bagel should taste like'. Oh and yes the coffee was good also!
Top Spot. This cafe is simply super. We went in for lunch and there was a good buzz about it. Not too busy and we got a seat outside in the sun. The staff are really friendly and happy to have a laugh. We ordered a chai and a cappuccino and the cap was one of the best i've had (and the barista claimed it was one of his best!). The chai was a bit weak though. For lunch we had a Tuna Melt and a New York Bagel. Both were really top quality. Loved the NY Bagel with cornbeef, swiss cheese, mayo, and radish. Overall i recommend this place highly. Definitely try it out!!
