I loved my visit here! The staff were so friendly and the cafe itself was nicely fit out and in a great location. There was a really nice vibe! The food was really tasty overall, the pancakes and nacho burger were super yummy but I felt like the greens salad needed a little more flavour (for me it almost tasted too green although such a stunning dish) coffee was great - overall a great place to stop for a coffee and some food during your shop!
Nestled in the hills of Eltham, The Main is a spacious cafe that is a welcome stop for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The eclectic menu has some delicious offerings, and the cake cabinet is laden with delicious looking sweet treats. Our waitress was attentive and lovely, and we were given a window side table with views over the main street below. The decor is modern and relaxed, and the cafe was very busy which adds to the buzzing vibe.
We began with amazing coffee and some of the best fresh juices I've had recently. Being a hot day, these refreshing drinks were a great start, and you could definitely taste the freshness.
There are some amazing savoury breakfast dishes to choose from, but the description of the breaky burger really enticed me. With a fried egg, bacon, home made hash browns and tomato chutney on a toasted brioche bun, who could resist it's charms? The toasted bun encased all the delicious fried goodies, and the sweet and spicy chutney was so tasty. All the goodness of a traditional fry up in a portable hand held casing. It was the best.
As it was a hot day, we also chose the yogurt and granola acai bowl. This generous bowl had a divine acai mix, plenty of yogurt, crunchy granola and amazing fresh fruits. Extremely filling, but so fresh, chilled and delicious; the crunch of the granola was the perfect textural balance to the creamy and smooth acai and yogurt.
The Main is definitely a pleasant cafe to visit, and is a standout venue in the area. The food is fantastic, the coffee is top notch and the staff encourage you to relax and enjoy yourself. We definitely enjoyed our visit and will return again soon.
Large casual dining venue (with its own private function space).
Lots of variety on the menu!!!
Hard to go past a wood oven pizza but the stuffed mushrooms and the eggplant fries are delicious.
Great cocktail list!
Staff are very friendly and is evident with the many locals that obviously visit regularly. Super attentive and helpful.
Head 20kms North East of Melbourne and you’ll soon end up in Eltham. Many art enthusiasts will know this area is home to Montsalvat.
Fun fact? It’s where my favourite news presenter Peter Hitchener resides!
It’s also where I found The Main café, cosily tucked away in the village shopping precinct.
If you’re from the East like me, you will know its sister café Giorgio’s of Armadale. You’ll find the same level of attention to detail at The Main, and a similar approach to the dining experience.
The venue itself offers a sizable modern space that’s big enough for the family gatherings, and intimate enough for that weekend catch-up.
The menu takes a Mediterranean slant, with lunch options which include wood fired pizza, pasta, burgers, salads, and a selection of share plates.
Stand out dish? The Baked Mushrooms with homemade ricotta & feta cheese topped with semi-dried tomatoes, wild roquette & crushed cashews.

We had a great experience at The Main! Love the overall appearance, vibe and atmosphere. Staff are super friendly. I was also happy to see how many vegan options were available.
We tried:
Trio of Dips - the bread was crusty, oily and yum! With hummus, eggplant and pumpkin dips. SO good.
Superfood Salad - a generous serving of greens, avo, asparagus, nuts, chickpeas, all the good stuff.
Vegan brownie - AMAZING. Def recommend you get this whether you're a vegan or not hehe
Espresso martini was delicious too.
Such a great place for dinner, drinks, with fam or friends.

This place is consistently good in all aspects. Whether you’re coming here for a bite to eat, a full on lunch or just takeaway, everything is great.
I’ve dined here with my kids many times at the restaurant part that overloooks Main Road but today was just a quick takeaway coffee and vanilla slice that is to die for. In fact all the cakes on display look amazing.
Staff can make or break a place and at The Main, I’ve always found the staff to be friendly, efficient and helpful. Kudos to you!
If you have dietary issues just let the staff know when ordering. High chairs are available for kids. Wheelchair friendly. Good parking at the rear in the main carpark.
Was out Eltham one night and needed somewhere to eat. I followed my nose and we ended up at Main a modern Australian restaurant / cafe. The wood fire pizzas we got were quite tasty. The volcano was flavoursome and my favorite however it's not something you'd call spicy.
The service was lovely, the lady was friendly and attentive
This place never disappoints, great customer service from the moment we walk in. The food here is great and consistent. The calamari salad is my fav, the Thai beef salad is my partners. The menu here is fairly big from pizza to steaks and amazing desserts and all served to the highest quality.
We look forward to seeing you guys again soon👍👍👍👍
