đŸ˜±Lizzie's first impression: It is situated in an amazing area overlooking elwood beach -perfect for Spring and Summer days. The staff are welcoming and their dishes look impressive.

đŸ©Lizzie enjoyed: the aesthetics of the dishes are like no other - I was very impressed by all of them and they tasted delicious. The french toast was a stand out and so were the sweet potato fries. You can't go wrong with the hong kong egg waffles also. I went here for my birthday and my friends brought me donuts -the staff not only allowed me to take photos with their marble plate but also offered to bring us separate new plates!

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: the place was a little far out of the city but a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle.

🎖Lizzie rates overall: I loved this place and would love to come back to try more of their dishes.

Finally had a chance to visit the sister cafe to the now legendary instacafe - the Glass Den. Apprehensive at best due to my fairly average experience there I wanted to give this a shot to see if things were better on the other side of town...but were they?!. The Butler's Den could not be more perfectly situated - right by the beach with a direct view to it and parking on your doorstep. It has a very chill vibe and a good mixture of locals and the brunch crowd. Staff were SO friendly and were more than happy to cater to our photo-taking needs (no shame to stand at this cafe).

These Roti Hotcakes were very rich and decadent. They were more like roti fritters with cookies and cream icecream and caramel sauce. 4.0 for the oiliness. Very sweet and rich.

saw beautiful instagram photos of the brunch dishes here and was so eager to try them for myself. after a difficult period of contemplation, i opted for the french toast churros, and was not disappointed. perfect for any sweet tooth like myself, i loved the flavours, french toast was done so well, infused with flavour, and of course amazing toasted marshmallows, loved it. together with my brunch partner we also shared the prawn tempura ramen which had a broth full of a delicious flavour, the tempura prawns were crispy and nice, presentation so pretty too.
absolutely lovely. not a long wait for the food, perfect presentation and lovely scenery by the beach.

The apple doesn't seem to fall far from the tree when it comes to the styling and inspiration behind many of the dishes at The Butler's Den and older sibling restaurant The Glass Den. Switch out the surroundings of Pentridge Prison, throw in the beach and ta da!

Ordered the savoury pancakes special and grilled peach and avocado bruschetta, plus the vanilla waffles to share. The plating is outstanding, flavours are inspired and service was friendly. We will definitely come back!

The Glass Den is known for bringing pretty brunches to the north, and now their sister cafe, The Butler’s Den, has brought some of that magic southside to Elwood beach.

Went there on a Saturday arvo for brunch and immediately fell in love with the views from our table. The mocha was the perfect blend of coffee and chocolate without the overbearing sweetness that you get at a lot of other cafes.
We ordered the Eggs Benedict which was cooked to perfection! The balance of flavours was beautiful as was the freshness of the ingredients used! Loved our meal there and will definitely be back to try another of their amazing looking dishes!

Great location just beside the beach in Elwood. I expected a little more from the interior as it was quite basic. The painting of the girl was amazing... the menu was beyond amazing... The creativity in the dishes were next level. So many elements well made and perfectly balanced

> Vanilla bean waffle with brownie nibs, matcha soil, housemade strawberries, blueberries and citrus meringue <

These waffles have been circling the internet and teasing us every time it pops up on our feed, so it was finally time to check them out for ourselves. The waffles itself are quite thick and very tasty. When we have seen pictures of the waffles, we thought that the bubbles would make the dish seem hollow and thin, so to our surprise, we were very glad that they were decently sized. The vanilla bean ice cream with brownies are like heaven on a plate. Each bite of the waffle has to be eaten with the ice cream to really experience every flavour possible. The brownie is super soft and melts on the palate, this is especially true when you combine the brownies with the waffles and ice cream as it combines three incredibly sweet and delicious flavours đŸ€€ The matcha soil is a great touch to the dish as it gives the meal a crunchy texture whilst toning down the sweetness of every other element. We would have to agree with the hype about these waffles being so delicious and pretty. They were hands down one of the best we’ve had, and we are so glad we finally came down to try them. However, we think we have gained 10kg from them 😂

> Grilled peach & avocado bruschetta with turmeric cream cheese, kale, pomegranate, salsa, candy beets, dukkah, beetroot hummus and balsamic reduction on sourdough <

The second dish that we had to get at the butler’s den was the bruschetta. It looks so beautiful, decent sized, and delicious đŸ€€. The avocado is perfectly ripe and there is a lot of it. The peach element didn’t really work out for us. We think it may have been a little too sweet for this particular dish. However, the balsamic reduction seems to be a better addition to the dish as it is thick with a bitter and sweet flavour, which we believe works better with avocado. The turmeric cream cheese is very nice and generously spread over the bread. It gives the dish a tang and works extremely well with all the other elements. Similarly, the beetroot hummus is also very delicious and gives the dish a tang and a more rough texture.

The Butler’s Den is the newly opened sister cafe of Coburg’s Glass Den. Located in Elwood, right by the beach, it serves a similar menu, with a few changes to its well known counterpart and we couldn’t wait to try out the place and check out the neighbourhood as well!. We ordered a sweet and a savoury dish and and shared both.

The first dish we ordered was the Oreo Waffle with vanilla bean waffle and berry pourover, oreo ice cream, matcha soil, hazelnut, white chocolate ganache, strawberry, oreo brownie bites, citrus meringue and burnt marshmallows. This was probably the most stunning waffle I have ever eaten! There were so many elements to the dish and it was so beautifully presented in a ‘spillover style’. The flavours came together perfectly with the waffle moist and crunchy, well balanced by the sweet ice cream and chocolate which was complemented by the tangy flavours of the fruit.

As the sister cafe to the now famous Glass Den, Butler’s Den provides patrons with a meal that is creative, very photogenic and undeniably Instagram-able. However, the flavours universally fell short on expectations given how brilliant the dishes were all presented, and generally could’ve been bolder and more forward – to match the vibrance of both the colours of the dishes as well as the location it is situated in.

Beautiful food with great flavours!

We were pretty excited when we heard our favourite brunch place - the Glass Den - had a new sister in town! Prior to visiting the Butler's Den we already love the fact that they allow booking via Zomato, which is a feature that not all the brunch places offer.

We came here on a Sunday morning and pleasantly found there were plenty of parking spots available right in front of the place (though with a small fee). We were quickly directed to our reserved table next to a window.

Hannah ordered the Denny Benny which she claimed to be one of the best she has ever tasted (4/5). The buns were slightly sweet while the crab was crunchy and well marinated. The eggs were runny which together with the tumaric hollaindaise did help balance the driness in the fried crab. We particularly enjoyed the use of pickled daikon and pink ginger to provide some sourness that cut through the fatty hollaidainse. The pea soil also added some visual and textural interest. Very solid dish!

Luke got the rocky road garden because he had been craving carb from the night before. This visually beautiful dish was basically french toast with a bunch of sweet elements. He enjoyed the light, crunchy (but not oily) french toast that went so well with contrasting cold and smooth strawberry ice cream. There was so much going on on the dish - sandy and fragrant matcha soil, almond hazelnut crunch, fresh strawberry, the sweet Nutella ganache, these cute meringue flowery things. It was fun to eat and the flavours also worked well together! Great dish! (4/5)

We also got a fried sweet potato chips with charcoal aoli which was great in terms of the texture and visual. The fries were crispy and not oily or dry. However we question the flavour as the light sweetness of the potato chips didn't really work with the salty/garlicky sauce - we would rather have the normal fries or a different sauce. (2.5/5)

There were indeed a lot of similarities with the dishes being offered at the Glass Den, most notably the Rocky Road dish and the Tempura Ramen. The portion here looked slightly smaller than at their sister as well. And finally, they could have invested a bit more in the store's decor - it looks a bit underwhelming/bland for a Melbourne's brunch place (from afar and inside it looks more like a fish and chips place). Other than that, the food looked and tasted great, the service was quick and welcoming. Overall 3.8/5

Whilst waiting for a friend to join me for brunch, I went for a stroll along Elwood Beach which is beautifully tranquil (especially in comparison to neighbouring St Kilda beach!) so the Butlers Den has chosen its location very well.

To me, it looks like a large beach shack from the outside(quite fitting really). And inside it is spacious yet simple. Floor boards, white walls featuring a lovely blue mural along the wall with just a hint of the shack feel with mixed and matched wooden chairs and tables.

Sister café to the popular Glass Den in Coburg, The Butlers Den is following in the same footsteps of serving ridiculously good looking food. But its not just good looking, it has personality too! Colourful, adventurous, creative, extraordinary, lovable, sweet

I had already decided what I was going to have before I even got here. The fried banana roti hotcake, decorated with matcha soil, oreo nibs, raspberry crumble, burnt caramel milk, hazelnuts and topped with house made cookies and cream ice cream and Persian chocolate fairy floss for $20 with a side of the vegan Choc Wow Smoothie (banana, cacao, almond milk, ice and cinnamon - $9) need I say more
. It was just as drool worthy as it sounds.

My friend indulged in the Vanilla bean waffle with brownie bites, match soil, burnt marshmallows, strawberry, blueberry citrus meringue, strawberry coulis and house made cookies and cream ice cream for $25 with a lovely St Ali Cappuccino.

The best thing about the Butlers Den is that almost every single menu item has an option to make it vegetarian OR vegan! This is how menus should be done! They also sell All Good Organic Fizzy Drinks which means that proceeds from sales of these drinks go back to the people who grow cola in Sierra Leone. In the bathrooms you’ll find “who gives a crap” toilet paper and Biopak biodegradable products are used for takeaway food and bev so a big thumbs up for caring for the environment.

The Butlers Den is a very welcome addition to the Elwood foreshore.

AMAZ-ING.
A much needed change for the Elwood beach. Perfect location to have such a top quality cafe. Changed from la porcetta but still doing pizza. The cafe menu is so imaginative and different. All the food that came out looked like a work of art. It felt as if it was a new chef final able to do what they want and it shows through the food. I ordered the eggs bene with pulled beef. The mustard was peared with the pickle ginger and other pickled vegetables. This totally works and was a flavour bonanza. The dishes are a little on the expensive side but well worth it. Coffee was really good and worth ordering a second. So glad that this cafe has popped up and is decent. All it needs now is a little refurbishment and they are on to a total winner

sister cafe of the glass den, we were ecstatic to find out the butlers den opened in elwood. The head chef has designed an incredible menu. Delicious food that has been designed to be 100% instagram worthy makes this cafe a must visit for those near and far from elwood. The food is presented to impress even the toughest of critics! We enjoyed the roti pancakes and also loved the tempura crab which remained crunchy after 10 minutes of taking photos! We will be here very often in the summer as it right by the beach.

Open for just 3 weeks, this gorgeous cafe on Elwood's esplanade takes dishes and presentation to a whole new level thanks to chef their extremely creative chef minipakchima. Located practically on the beach, this cafe will be the place to be in the summer and is already buzzing with families and customers alike. The food comes out looking like a work of art and seems to be of high quality. The Avo smash is great, we loved the brioche bagel and the brownie waffles are to die for! Our only criticism would be what seems to be rather exorbitant prices- 25$ for the sweet tooth dishes, 8$ to add 2 pieces of cured salmon to a dish and 9$ for an iced coffee. Prices aside, however we do recommend it!

A Great Space, with a wonderful Menu.

I recently visited The Butlers den over to the east in a place called Elwood and from the moment I arrived to the second I left I felt so welcomed by the two staff Members who we there on the day Gracie and Tay. On arrival I did the classic Jamie and ordered a flat white. Using St Ali coffee it should have been good and it was, it had a small swan on the top and i do love good late art. it was creamy and smooth. The points are earned here by the heat though I love it hot and it was served at the perfect temperature.

It was then time for some food so after a good 10 minutes looking at the menu I decided on the Brownie waffle, and I was not disappointed. This dish was quite complex with so many elements. A vanilla bean waffle with small chunks of brownies, a matcha soil and burnt marshmallows. It had a few fresh elements on the plate too including blueberries, strawberries and a strawberry coils too. This was finished off with a cookies and cream ice cream which was home made. Each element was great and it had the right balance of not too sweet or savory. I must also credit that the matcha crumb was not too biter when tried by its self.

I asked for this to be served with the Taro latte as it sounded interesting. It was that a sweet hot drink which reminded me of those sweets I used to get as a child that were purple, Parma Violets! So a good one and I would highly recommend it if you were to order a drink. After finishing off and as I was invited by the Butlers den they insisted I tried some more but I was so full. Tay told me he would bring me over something else so I did not hesitate on the offer.

He brought me over an iced coffee, and this was unlike any I have had before. Served on a cute plate it was a glass with a solid piece of ice coffee, a jar of hot milk and a side of sugar syrup. Now I normally hate cold coffee but it was so good. Poring the milk over to start it took about 10 minutes for the ice to slowly melt and the coffee develop. It was a nice flavor and not too bitter at all, the sugar syrup was not needed I did taste it by its self though and it was yummy. I think by now you have worked out I like sweet things though.

The Coffee was accompanied by a made in house muffin, looking amazing and tasting fresh. It was soft and fluffy, I did try the icing but after the sugar over load it was too sweet today. I am sure if it was tomorrow I would finish it off.

I imagine this place to be supper packed on the weekends and in the summer as it is about a 20 second walk to the beach in Elwood. All in all a wonderful place, a great menu and I would return. Every other plate coming out of the kitchen made me jealous and i want to eat it all. My only slight concern is that maybe the pricing is a little on the steeper side compared to other brunch places out there.

Restaurant Type: Brunch Café
I would like to thank The Butters Den for inviting me to try out some of the food on the menu.

I feel like I've struck gold with this gem of a cafe opening in Elwood. We went for lunch on Thursday and ordered two vegan meals, the Donkka Burger and the Tempura Ramen and both were delicious! The ingredients are so creative and the flavours complimented each other perfectly (sweet, salt and spice in perfect balance). Not to mention the presentation is too gorgeous to eat.
Will definitely be back. So glad to have a place that finally serves classy and delicious vegan fare on this side of town.

Great selection of vegan food on the menu, with some awesome creative breakfasts. It's great when a cafe offers V/VG options that aren't just the same food minus meat or dairy. The service was AMAZING. My wife and I came here for breakfast and the power went out in the kitchen; the waitress who was looking after us apologised and explained the situation. This would have been enough to satisfy us, but then the chef came out and personally apologised and brought out cupcakes for us. This was above and beyond, but then our waitress took 20% off the bill!! We couldn't believe the lengths they went to! A+++ A great addition to the growing V/VG options on the south side.

One thing I love about Melbourne is if you wait long enough to go to a restaurant, the restaurant will eventually come to you – or it’s little sister will! Glass Den in Coburg has been on my to-visit list for months, so imagine my delight when they decided to put their new addition to the family, Butler’s Den, a 15 minute walk from my house.

Food was outstanding and very well presented. A little pricey tho. only disappointment was that they wouldn't split the bill, which fir a group of 5 friends was very annoying. I can understand if there is a huge queue at the register but this wasnt the case. Every other cafe in Melbourne now lets you split the bill - they need to revisit this policy!
