😱Lizzie's first impression: It is situated in an amazing area overlooking elwood beach -perfect for Spring and Summer days. The staff are welcoming and their dishes look impressive.
🍩Lizzie enjoyed: the aesthetics of the dishes are like no other - I was very impressed by all of them and they tasted delicious. The french toast was a stand out and so were the sweet potato fries. You can't go wrong with the hong kong egg waffles also. I went here for my birthday and my friends brought me donuts -the staff not only allowed me to take photos with their marble plate but also offered to bring us separate new plates!
🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: the place was a little far out of the city but a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle.
🎖Lizzie rates overall: I loved this place and would love to come back to try more of their dishes.
Finally had a chance to visit the sister cafe to the now legendary instacafe - the Glass Den. Apprehensive at best due to my fairly average experience there I wanted to give this a shot to see if things were better on the other side of town...but were they?!. The Butler's Den could not be more perfectly situated - right by the beach with a direct view to it and parking on your doorstep. It has a very chill vibe and a good mixture of locals and the brunch crowd. Staff were SO friendly and were more than happy to cater to our photo-taking needs (no shame to stand at this cafe).
These Roti Hotcakes were very rich and decadent. They were more like roti fritters with cookies and cream icecream and caramel sauce. 4.0 for the oiliness. Very sweet and rich.
AH-MAY-ZING!!!! Had the roti pancakes and they were insanely delicious! My other pic is my friends French toast. I can't recommend the roti pancakes enough!!!
saw beautiful instagram photos of the brunch dishes here and was so eager to try them for myself. after a difficult period of contemplation, i opted for the french toast churros, and was not disappointed. perfect for any sweet tooth like myself, i loved the flavours, french toast was done so well, infused with flavour, and of course amazing toasted marshmallows, loved it. together with my brunch partner we also shared the prawn tempura ramen which had a broth full of a delicious flavour, the tempura prawns were crispy and nice, presentation so pretty too.
absolutely lovely. not a long wait for the food, perfect presentation and lovely scenery by the beach.
The apple doesn't seem to fall far from the tree when it comes to the styling and inspiration behind many of the dishes at The Butler's Den and older sibling restaurant The Glass Den. Switch out the surroundings of Pentridge Prison, throw in the beach and ta da!
Ordered the savoury pancakes special and grilled peach and avocado bruschetta, plus the vanilla waffles to share. The plating is outstanding, flavours are inspired and service was friendly. We will definitely come back!

The Glass Den is known for bringing pretty brunches to the north, and now their sister cafe, The Butler’s Den, has brought some of that magic southside to Elwood beach.
The peach bruschetta was absolutely the best 🙌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 so amazing and the beetroot dip was just delicious. Definitely recommend this dish and definitely will be coming back here again ☺️ perfect place to spend with friends and enjoy company 💕
Delicious healthy food and the happiest, genuinely interested staff. New local for me for sure! And on the beach as well. Perfect for a stroll after a meal.
Very nice and presentable food. Great service by all staff when we went there today. Definitely will come back.
Service: 4/5
- Friendly, prompt and helpful
Food: 4/5
- Tasty, creative and enjoyable
Price: 4/5
- Reasonable
Ambiance: 3/5
- A little cramped and clustered
- Decor looked aged and lack of effort
Holy hat the plating looks of the charts.. amazing flavours. Definitely coming back
Food was outstanding and very well presented. A little pricey tho.
only disappointment was that they wouldn't split the bill, which fir a group of 5 friends was very annoying. I can understand if there is a huge queue at the register but this wasnt the case. Every other cafe in Melbourne now lets you split the bill - they need to revisit this policy!
