Lovely service from the young man at the counter. We ordered crepes - the Devine which had Nutella, banana and strawberry and the peanut butter one. Both were great however the crepe went hard quite quickly after it had cooled down. The decor is pretty cool, makes you feel as though you’re in an American diner.

Doughbox Diner is located in Brighton Le Sands on Bay street so it's slightly easier for you to find parking - we know how hard parking can be on The Grand Parade. Doughbox Diner began as a simple pizza bar and creperie in 2009 and it's the home of the hand held crepe cone! It's no ordinary crepe cone either (keep scrolling to see why). Doughbox Diner seriously creates a different dining experience, it'll bring you to the classic American Diner vibe. They have an extensive menu which ranges from salads, sides, hotdogs, sandwiches and melts, chicken and waffle, burgers, crepe cones, burger cones, thickshakes, soda floats, hot drinks and a whole range of desserts.

All too easy to be lazy and order from an app so I did! A few taps on the Ubereats app and my delivery was on its way. Fairly quick for dinner to arrive.

Had the Chicken And Waffles as well as Onion Rings. The chicken were strips which made it easy to eat as no bones! The waffles were fluffy in the middle but didn’t have any crunch on the outside so missed that texture. The accompanying honey mustard sauce and syrup were nice but the whipped butter melted on the trip here. Onion rings were nice and crispy and had a lovely batter to it. Nice dipping sauce came with it.

Halloween is usually one of the most celebrated holidays in the United States. Our visit to an American Restaurant, Doughbox Diner, on Halloween’s day was no different. They had a tombstone at the entrance and a few halloween-inspired dishes. Burgers, crepes and lots of desserts dominated their menu. They also had a few hot dogs and starters.

Four of us popped in to Doughbox Diner for dinner tonight and absolutely loved it. Between us we had three Fats Domino burgers and the Hawaii 5.0 Burger, which were all filled with fresh ingredients, huge AND super tasty + the seasoned fries were delish too. We've got our eyes on the cheese and bacon fries for next time!
There's a great range of Australian and American sodas, but one of us ordered the Choc Mudslide Shake and it was perfect too with cute extras to boot - whipped cream, wafer, sprinkles, a lollipop and cherry on top.
Highly recommended for experiencing a 50's style diner and a great feast. Our waiter tonight was lovely too, which made it an all round fab experience.

Does what it says on the box, American diner faves in a funky Happy Days style fit out. We had the rolled burger, chilli dog and chilli cheese fries, all excellent. We were also eying off the hot wings going to other tables, next time... A shout out to our waitress, she was a delight, helpful caring and humerous. A respecful suggestion, any chance of adding chicken and waffles to the menu?

Shout out to the waiting staff that served me and my friend last night. The service and food here is terrific and reminiscent of a 1950s American style diner. They let me customise my own choice of toppings for pancakes as I told them that I really wanted bananas with Reeses Peanut Butter sauce and maple syrup. The request for them was taken on well and I got fresh fluffy buttermilk pancakes the way I wanted:) They also serve you complementary popcorn upon sitting down. Now where else in Sydney is that even possible?

An adorable 50's-themed diner which has managed to become a stand-out on Enmore, which is quite the feat considering the amount of fantastic dining places on the road! Although small and often busy, I have never waited too long for a table and am yet to leave unimpressed with the friendly and prompt staff.

Now on to the food: the first time I visited, I ordered the 'Some Like it Hot Burger' which came with their fantastic, crunchy fries. Admittedly, I was not the biggest fan of the burger; I found it far too saucy and a little overwhelming. Nevertheless, I left satisfied as the portion sizes truly match up to the prices and I adored the ambience of the place.

However, it was the second time I visited that I was truly impressed. I ordered the classic burger cone which arrived quite promptly and upon the first, heavenly bite realised just why they were known for these babies. Delectably thin, crispy, and mildly sweet, the crepe is a great offset to the saucy American-style burger fillings that I found a little sickening with the bun.

Can't wait to return a third time and try a dessert and one of their famous shakes!

Great place! Limited seating but high turn around of customers, you don't wait long for a table. Staff are very courteous and welcoming. You usually have to order/pay at the counter but we had a group of 6 people (1 of which had to sit at the end of the booth in a chair due to an ailment) so our server offered to take our order and payment at the table. Excellent customer service.

We ordered onion rings for starters - they were great! Super crispy and the sauce they come with is awesome! Has a nice tang to it.

Our mains were the Fats Domino, Beanie Weanie Dog, Hawaii 5-0, a Classic Burger Cone and the What's Wrong McFly?. The burgers were great on all accounts, the Cone had a huge, almost offensive slab of red onion which just doesn't work (it was promptly discarded). I loved my Beanie Weanie Dog. The chilli had a good flavour and the added jalapeños gave a nice kick without being overpowering. 100% would order one again.

The biggest let down were the fries! The seasoning was great but they were overcooked. That's only a small complaint though.

All in all we had a great time and experience, and we will be back.

Such a cool place with a real old school diner vibe.

Really tasty burgers, fries and milkshakes. Really generous serving sizes too.

The service is also really friendly. It can get quite busy here and the diner is small so you may have to wait around for a table.

Would recommend for really tasty diner food

After reading an article in the inner west courier about the Doughbox Diner, it was my new life’s mission to dine here. Rescheduling my week, I couldn’t wait another night and decided to go. Parking proved to be quite the challenge but after almost 25 minutes, we managed to find a spot. (But obviously street parking is beyond their control)

Approaching the diner, the excitement was rising. It was like a breath of fresh air whilst walking in. Knowing that I wasn’t going to find a hipster in sight. Knowing that I wasn’t going to find quinoa on the menu. Knowing that they don’t serve some terrible trendy organic coffee. Knowing that there weren’t any healthy vegan options, straight away, I fell in love. I did the time warp and fell into a genuine 1950’s diner. It’s rock and roll heaven as the diner is fully kitted out in retro paraphernalia from black and white chequers to plastic red booths and a general feeling that you’ve just stepped into the Frosty Palace from Grease (or Hal’s Diner from A Cinderella Story if you’re from Generation Z).

We were greeted by a stunning friendly waitress who’s uniform was your typical 50’s diner outfit finished with the most flawless pinup makeup application and a victory roll hairstyle that was on point. She sat us down, gave us traditionally designed menus, water and hot, perfectly salted popcorn! From here on in, we just knew it was going to be the ultimate experience.

Whilst trying not to get distracted by looking at all the vintage décor and advertisements, we were gazing over the menu. It was so hard to narrow it down it one thing! First world problems, right? They have you covered from cheese fries to apple pie, from hot dogs to burgers, from shakes to soda floats and a really interesting concept called a Crepe Cone. (plus much, much more!)

Each menu item was appropriately named. We ordered onion rings, the Johnny B Goode and the Hawaii 5-0. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word ‘perfect’ as having all the required or desirable elements, qualities or characteristics; as good as it is possible to be. Needless to say, food was far and beyond.

Like, most people don’t realise this, but you can eat organic, healthy, vegan and even gluten free food without having to tell everyone about it. If you’re keen on health and fitness as your diet consist of organic and vegan bullshit, this definitely isn’t an experience for you (but definitely one you are missing out on). I probably ate two months’ worth of daily kilojoule intake in one sitting but I don’t regret one thing. Served in a basket, it was salty, greasy, cheesy, messy… just sensational. They even have you covered giving you wet wipes!

To wash it down, we also ordered a deliciously sinful cherry Coke soda float complete with genuine Coca-Cola Cherry Coke and ice cream served in a larger than life glass.

Pushing it for dessert, it was only fitting to share The Big Topper. Whilst eating it, I forgot about all my problems in the world. My only mistake was thinking I wasn’t going to finish it and ordered one sundae to share.

All in all, it was my first time here but definitely won’t be my last. Until I try everything on the menu at least twice, I will be your new regular customer. I would absolutely love to see this place expand and become bigger. Buy out each business on either side and grow so that way you're open 7 days for lunch as well as dinner!

Doughbox Diner is a great place with American vibes to grab some late night dinner around the area of Enmore. We ordered their Avocado Bite Savoury Crepe ($15), Melted Moment Crepe ($13) and an Old Fashioned Banana Split ($15) to share. The two crepes were both delicious and crispy and portions were generous. However, the Melted Moment Crepe did get a bit too sweet after a while. The Old Fashioned Banana Split was our favourite dish of the night. The Ice Cream flavours stood out and complemented the Banana perfectly. We will definitely be returning to try some of their burgers and other desserts!

Walking on the main street of Enmore, this cute little 50s diner is hard to miss popping with colour and character, standing out from the other dining options nearby. The staff are just as bright as the colourful decor & are super friendly and efficient. I decided to try the Burger Cone which I had never seen or heard of before. The Lot was wrapped in a crepe instead of a bun and was very tasty. The fries are delicious - crunchy, golden & dusted with their seasoning. There are plenty of shakes & floats on offer here but I decided to go for a good old fashioned Chocolate around the clock sundae. It was a perfect classic with plenty of chocolate fudge sauce & whipped cream. I was eyeing off the warm apple pie though so that will have to wait for the next time.

This American diner on the main drag in Enmore is only open in the evening. I went there on a Saturday night looking for a dessert after dinner. The place was packed, with people lining up outside.
The little diner is fitted out in retro style, with booths for groups of 4/6, with tables outside as well. The place has got bright colours all around and a lively feel, and makes you feel happy as soon as you enter. Now for the food. Doughbox has a range of desserts, crepes, soda floats etc. on offer, but I was drawn instantly to the milkshakes. I ordered the strawberry smash, and it was FANTASTIC!! It was a delightfully thick and creamy concoction, with additional thick cream on top. It also had sprinkles, a wafer and a cherry on top. Beautifully presented, no doubt about that. I will certainly be back to try out the other goodies on offer.

The way you order/get a table here just doesn't work. Well it didn't the night we went, maybe because it was rather busy. Some of the meals were slow to come out and I was slightly underwhelmed. We were planning g in having dessert here, but decided to go elsewhere. The theme of the place is great and the staff are friendly.

Love the setting, love the service and love the food!!!! This place has delicious desserts, and an American styled menu. Great vibe, though my advice is to either come earlier than peak or book a table, as there is limited seating and this place always gets packed out! But it's for a reason, this place is definitely worth the wait outside.

Intensely sweet choices on the menu but a delight to dine here. The interior and exterior presentation of the store enables one to feel as if they were truly going back to the past from the booths, to the signage, to the Elvis Presley and Marylin Monroe Vinyls hanging on the wall, to the old dial telephone and the waitresses with their outfit, hair and makeup! Amazing! She also had a mini helper even in the same outfit! Great place to catch up with friends, definitely recommend it :)

If you love a good schtick, then Doughbox Diner is the place for you! Decorated in the style of a 50s diner, this quaint eatery serves up crepe cones – Crepes get filled with a sweet or savoury mix of ingredients, being served up to you in a handy cone form. My favourite’s the Inferno: Pepperoni, Sujuk, Cabanossi, Mushrooms, Jalapeño, Chilli and Cheese? Yes please!

If there was an eatery that could perfectly suit my friend, Andrea, and I, it would be Doughbox Diner. For Andrea, there is a well executed 1950s theme, from the red vinyl booths and waitresses in hot pink uniforms to the authentic music playing in the background. I love the theme also but what makes me absolutely adore this place is the spin on the classic 1950s menu with their signature hand-held crepe cones.

Be transported back in time to the 1950s, an era of pin-ups, cat-eyes and debaucherous fun. There's probably something for the lads too but it's really all about the ladies and what a time to be alive! If you're like me (which I'm guessing you are) and sadly missed out on the good days, flick that FOMO away and head down to Doughbox to soak in the experience.

From the retro candy cane seats (imported directly from America), to the flashy pastel neon signage, you will have to pinch yourself to confirm you've only stepped off a kerb in Enmore.

I may have a girl crush on diner doll, who is all shades of beautiful; but what I truly love is their aptly named 'desire' crepe-in-a-cone. Their crepe philosophy is simple. You make it thin, you make it crispy and you throw everything but the kitchen sink at it. Thus was the birth of the savoury crepes and more recently the burger crepes. For the non-conformists, there is a selection of waffles, sundaes and floaters on offer. Thou shalt not leave hungry or hypoglycaemic!

Prices are reasonable in that you pay for the food as well as the experience. Unfortunately, gone are the days where the crepes were made front of house with everyone crowded around ooing and ahhing (you will see the previous setup in a few pics). The novelty was sacrificed for extra seats and in a small diner, this was a winning move. To compensate, they have sourced an old school popcorn vendor (think 90s movie theatres. Mesmerising to watch) and offer free popcorn to diners while you wait for your food - It's a slow process as everything is made to order.

My one little peeve with this is that the free popcorn is restricted only to dine-in patrons. Those of us braving the elements hanging out the front of the cafe just stand there with envy. Which makes absolutely no sense since we aren't hogging seats, aren't adding to the cleaning up and frankly should be the ones getting the freebies!

Regardless, I am still a massive fan (if you couldn't tell already) because this place lifts my spirits and allows me to indulge. I would suggest against going as a post dinner dessert because the crepes are definitely not for lightweights.

I came to the Doughbox Diner as part of my 'last supper' before having major dental surgery. Knowing that I wouldn't be able to eat anything but mush for the next three months meant that I wanted to go all out! Doughbox has a great atmosphere that I really feel could only be improved by everyone wearing puffy skirts or greaser jackets and the waitresses scooting around on roller skates. And perhaps a little more seating.

Our party shared a selection of sundaes and waffles including the Jailhouse Rock Sundae and Chocolate Waffles. None of our desserts disappointed. The service was quick and the servings incredibly generous. I will definitely be going back.

Feeling a bit peckish after dinner. "I know a place, an American Diner, do you want to go?" asked my husband. Intrigued, I agreed.

This place stands out with its neon sign advertising its crepe cones. Then as I stepped in, I was overwhelmed by the retro decor, neon lights and the red vinyl booths. A lady uniformed in pink vintage shirtdress complete with hat that fits with the whole theme greeted us, "Is this you first time here?"

Popcorn is served complimentary on arrival. We had the Big Bopper Sundae, a rich chocolate brownie covered with Toffee, Vanilla and Peanut Butter ice cream, with caramel fudge, peanut butter sauce, toasted almond flakes, Snickers chunks, whipped cream and cherry on top. It was sickly sweet, definitely not for the faint hearted just like the warning on their menu. We also had the Lemon and Sugar Crepe, and it was like eating a Lemon Tart, tangy and delicious but on a crepe, if that makes sense. To complete the whole experience we had to have some thickshake. We had the Chocolate Mudslide, 1950s style, complete with whipped cream and cherry on top!

Overall it's a fun experience. I would come back again and try their savoury crepe next time.

Take a short stroll down Enmore Road and a skip back in time to enjoy the all-American diner experience at the Doughbox Diner. Above the door reads a warning, “Lost in the 1950s.” Sandwiched in a peppermint coloured booth, surrounded by snaps of Buddy Holly and Marilyn Monroe and with Elvis playing on the loudspeaker, we begin to see why.

Stop everything you are doing, do not collect $200 and head straight to Doughbox Diner!
I am so glad I have Doughbox in my life (for cheat meals only).
We arrived just before opening (which was 6pm) on a Saturday and there was already a line up. Good sign...
Once the doors were finally opened we all rushed in like a Myers Christmas sale, grabbed a booth (p.s there aren't many and it's quite cramped). Then proceeded to head to the counter one by one to order.
There is a selection of their signature dish, the savoury or sweet crepes filled with an array of amazing toppings which end up rolled into a crispy cone.
Thankfully they had a lengthy selection of Gluten free options which were both tasty and filling and you don't feel like your missing out on the yummy stuff either...winning!
We also tried the coke spider and strawberry thick shake!
This place is a must!

More than half of the menu, printed with colourful flair on laminated paper and up on the wall, is dedicated to sweet crepe cones and waffles that are evidently tooth-rotting and delicious. If you are looking to jump back in time and visit Doughbox diner, make sure you plan your crepe cones carefully, balancing savoury and sweet (and beverages) to fit in all those nostalgic flavours. A lesson learnt for our next stop at the Doughbox Diner. It’s a hip joint, dig it?

When on our way to get some World winning gelato at Cow and the Moon, we passed a small 50’s style dinner place that sells crepes, waffles, milkshakes and ice cream on the border of Newtown and Enmore. Doughbox Diner: a small bar that has been transformed to a proper 50’s American diner. With Cow and the Moon just winning the price for Worlds Best gelato you can imagine the line was crazy and we turned around after seeing it. Luckily there was some space at Doughbox so we got in and ordered a banana split and a thick shake with cookies and cream flavour. Doughbox Diner looks great, it has booths, white and red striped seats. A 50’s soundtrack and old comics on the walls. //Look at that!! The banana split was topped with a bucket of whipped cream and some sprinkles on top. The banana split was exactly how it should be. Nothing “cuisine” about it, no weird mixing of different combinations of ice cream like you see at Messina. Just three different kinds of ice cream, banana, chocolate sau

Cons: Idk if the overcrowdedness is part of the retro components, but almost on my every single visit I saw staffs trying to squeeze through customers who are waiting for their orders. And there were customers waiting outside to be seated because it was fully packed inside.

Takes me back to the 50s!!. Not that i was born then, but its such a cute retro area with waitresses dressed in pink outfit and red lipsticks to boot. The place is pretty small, so i wouldn't recommend you come here with more than 4 people as thats all the tiny booths can fit, if that. The menu is mostly split up into their savoury or sweet crepes menu, with some waffles and a good range of milkshakes and sundaes if you're not in the mood for a crepe. Their crepes are thin, and crispy and get wrapped up into a cone, fillings are very pizza like with the inferno crepe filled with cabanossi, mushroom, cheese, sausage, jalapeño and chill flakes to give it some heat. These are not like french crepes at all, but are fun and tasty. The sweet crepes can be a bit difficult to eat, with all the filling oozing out, we had the banana with chocolate hazelnut, peanuts, and custard. Not bad but a bit too heavy handed with the peanuts. Fun to try once, and quiet busy on a weeknight.

SOOO RETROOOO!. Came here after movies at Dendy newtown, really wanted to check it out after strolling past one night and seeing the 50's fit out. I had always dreamed of opening a retro milk bar and these guys nailed it! (cept I would have made the decor more red based - but no complaints on the pink!)
The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly, which I stress is a major major major bonus since most restaurants/small bars/wank fests in Newtown/Enmore can have rude staff. Rude staff are a major hindrance in making me pay the hipster tax on such items like $10 for a scotch, or $5.50 for a taco (Oxford Tavern, I'm looking at you!)

Otherwise, my own negatives aside, this place was so cute, so adorable, so sweet; which is perfect for being in the business of playful nostalgic milk bar treats.

Go on, enjoy the cinnamon donut flavoured icecream - loved it!

There is always two sides to a story.... This is in response to the review written 2 hours ago by Lean212, who evidently joined Urbanspoon two hours ago also, just to be able to give us bad review, full of mistruth and spite.
Lean212, its not our fault that after 25 minutes when we were calling out your name, that you did not come and claim your order. Its not our fault that after we sent two different staff members out looking for you that you still did not answer to the call of your name. As many of you would be aware, Doughbox Diner has become increasingly busier over the last few months. Tonight was certainly no exception. We made over 300 crepe cones tonight. It was total mayhem. 99.9% of our customers were completely patient, many watched in awe as we continued to serve the large crowds that were coming in and out. Somewhere down the line, yes your crepe was evidently misplaced. Had you have claimed it when we were calling out your name, this would not have happened. You were told that a refund would be issued to you, but you would need to wait. Only the manager has the authority (and the till passcode) to issue a refund. As the manager was also in the middle of making many, many orders - surely you cannot expect everything to be dropped then and there to issue your refund. Regarding your claim to us 'heating up' pre cooked ingredients, its very important that everyone is aware that EVERY SINGLE CREPE CONE is made FRESH TO ORDER, they are simply spread in the kitchen, then brought to the front. Its very visible from every corner of the shop. Again, if you were present you would have seen this.
Regarding the 'Cow and Moon' being much more efficient - simply transferring gelato from a tub to a cone is a little different, there is high skill and timing involved in what we do, this is the reason we continue to grow.
We are sorry you felt the need to be so spiteful, especially when it was so evident of the chaotic situation in the diner - lines out the door and people absolutely everywhere.

This place rocks my box! Such amazing desserts (I've tried the waffles and crepes). I will choose here anytime for dessert. Coffee is good also.

So good it's bad (for my waistline). I love this place so much, it's going to take me ages to get around to tasting all the delicious-sounding stuff they have on offer.

Tried their pizzas for the first time last night. These are really good, they come out piping hot and all the ingredients are lovely and fresh.

I struggle to get past their savoury crepes, so have only tried a couple of the sweet ones - and I still haven't made it as far as their icecream sundaes, waffles or thick shakes! Everything I have tried has been delicious and indulgent, and I really love the whole hand-held thing.

My one gripe: portion sizes. I would love to be able to have a smaller savoury crepe for main course and follow it with a taste of sweet crepe, but can't get near doing this with the current - very generous - sizing.

Great thick shakes although they don't have malt..... Amazing choice of sweet crepes my family had the peanut bliss and stated this was scrumdiddleumptuose and one of the best desserts she has ha in a long time, the other had the white delight and found this to be a party in her mouth, i had the waffle caramel affair....the waffles were very bland and eggy but the icecream was devine....The guy serving us was lovely and passionate whilst the lady was very flusterred, grumpy and busting his ball.

Delicious crepes!. A must visit when you're in Enmore next - if you love sweet and savoury things, you can't go past their handheld crepes - and you've got so many options to choose from. If crepes aren't your thing, they also have a wide selection of Gelato, and even waffles. They're not kidding when they say hand held crepes are addictive!

Great atmosphere really charming. The food was good. Very well presented, well themed and yummy. Was a bit on the pricier side but you're paying for the experience. It was a lot of fun and was also one of the most unhealthy meals I've ever had. Be warned that the servings are plenty generous, we couldn't finish all our food! There is outdoor seating but if you have a wheelchair or pram you wouldn't be able to sit in the inside area where the booths are. You would miss most of the atmosphere of the place.

We had a peppermint hot choc and plain hot choc. It was so good! Popcorn was served on the side. The staff were super friendly. Love the themed decor.

The place looks funky, in a good way. Good crepes. This is a good place when you want to have something different. It's pretty small though so expect to wait outside when it's busy.

Love the waiters and the kitsch set up- makes me think of Uma Therman and her $5 shake in pulp fiction it just has that funky comfortable vibe about it. I go here for the American styled soda floats- and sundaes... On arrival you'll get popcorn- and a friendly welcome. Great for casual chilled out encounters.

Love the thickshakes at Doughbox Diner. My fav is the strawberry. I find the burgers are just okay. Also nice and friendly service. Bring some cash if you can otherwise there's a small surcharge to pay by card. But the thickshakes... #worthit Mmm... I'll definitely be back here.
