DELICIOUS!! I could taste and feel the level of care the Chef took preparing and cook these dishes. Amongst the best in Sydney I've had. We'll be back.. often!!

Curry laksa was creamy with the right amount of heat. Assam laksa (on special) had a great depth of umami and tangy-ness. Would highly recommend for those who like bolder flavours. Generous servings and lovely staff!

Six of us went for dinner last Saturday night and I have to say, the food is sensational! The service was great with the owner making us feel most welcome, even though we were the last to leave. Both Malaysian and traditional Chinese cuisine options are on the menu. Its a shop style atmosphere, but that is part of the charm and really, who cares? Go there for the quality and flavour of the food! I will certainly be travelling back to eat there again.

Wished that I live nearer, whenever I'm at Epping, I'll drop by. This weekend's special is NL which I make often enough so ordered mee goreng instead. Every ingredient was cooked right. Smokiness from wok hei, tau geh still crunchy but doesn't taste raw, chicken is tender and well marinated (satay?), noodles is slightly al dante which gives a good bite, and prawns are plump. All in all a very flavorful dish without a pool of oil on the plate after you finish.

Latest review: Food still very nice and probably better than before. Laksa was good but missing sth I don't know what. The restaurant was crowded on a week night. But again, not cheap for a Malaysian dining. Old review: What I like about this place is that they're family-run business. Seems like every family member has their own role and they do their best to impress. Nice characteristic of this business. Although the store is slightly hidden away from the shops along the main road, people seem to be able to find their way to here. Hence it tells about their quality and how well they're building their business. Ok food wise, not the best malay i've had. Their chicken rice was good and in a decent size but i found their laksa a bit blend. They have quite a wide range (from small dishes, entree, side dishes, mains to deserts) for the size of their kitchen, hence that's pretty impressive. We ordered stir fried water spinach as a side and it was great too. Price-wise is decent for the area. Considering that there's not much Malaysian restaurants around this area, it's worth a visit. :)

The two of us had a beef rendang and a sambal chicken, plus spicy wings for entree. We paid around $70 for that, including $4.50 per person for plain steamed rice! Wow. The prices shocked me, since we had lunch at another Malaysian restaurant in the next suburb (Eastwood) just the day before, where we paid about $35 for two dishes which included steamed rice. At least the food should have tasted better here but, it didn't. The quality of the chicken and the beef was nice and tender. The seasoning and flavour about average, nothing special.

Really authentic Malaysian cuisine! Had the Assam Laksa which was bursting with flavour and wonderfully delicious. I haven’t tried their other dishes, but almost everyone and myself had a form of laksa so I believe this is the go to choice. Would recommend!

We live the seafood and chicken combination laksa. It's not on the menu (that I have seen) but they will make it for you if you ask. Their take away service is super fast.

Great Laksa, great food, feels like a home made food, very cosy very homie, would highly recommend....

The food here is amazing! We have tried several different dishes on the menu and are blown away by it all, the only problem is trying not to fill yourself up on the delicious spring rolls... The service here is excellent, so lovely and friendly. Thanks for all the delicious food guys and we will be seeing you again soon :)

Love it. One of the best Laksas in Sydney. It's getting busier and busier. They need to expand!
Lynne Morrow
We enjoyed the curry chicken and the curry seafood.

love this place. Will come here instead of papa rich for char kway teo ANY day. chicken laksa is always amazing, and soup is full of flavour. I always have such a hard time choosing between these two dishes. reasonable prices too!

The laksa dishes are definitely to be raved about. Kangkong belachan is good too. But the char kway teow is a disappointment.

This is not the first time we visiting the local Msian restaurant. Knew from experience their Char Koay Teow wasn’t up to mark but we were in a hurry so settled on their weekday lunch specials.

Wife has always liked their laksa noodles. Creamy coconut soup with lots of sprouts and tofu puffs.

I on the other hand wanted a good old fashion stud fry up so had the nasi goreng. Very nice with lots of char or wok flavoured taste.

The place unfortunately is rather off the normal foot traffic but if you are in the area- worth a quick pop down!

Ordered chicken curry laksa, too much oil, had to skim oil from the soup ended up filling half of the empty rice bowl. Other than the amount of excessive oil, taste was fantastic

We frequent this great little local gem for authentic Malaysian food. I think they have one of the best Assam Laksa in Sydney. Perfect balance of sweet and tangy and just the right amount of fish. Too bad they only have it as a weekend special.

Average or just above average curry laksa soup. My noodles were soggy by the time they arrived at the table. But the soup base was definitely ok.

Also tried a mix of stir fried noodle dishes, the CKT, and lunch size Singapore noodles, fried rice. All these stir fried dishes were really drowning in oil, and for the amount of oil, no wok hei. Also very little protein in all of these!

The chicken was very tender for the hainanese chicken special, but their version serves the chicken soaking in soy sauce. Unfortunately rice was not flavourful at all, just a bit greasy. This was $15 or $16.

I’m not sure how this place has such good reviews here or other review sites. If you’re looking for a cheap fast greasy feed with simple carbs and not much protein at lunch ($10) then go, but otherwise I wouldn’t bother, especially if you have to travel to come here.

Bit of a mixed bag this one. While the taste of what we got was not bad, portion size or more to the point, the ingredients, can vary. The wan tan hor 3/5 was huge, the char kwee diao 3/5 had good wok hei but the mee goreng 2.75/5 only had 2 tiny shrimps. I dont think there is any other outlet selling sporean malaysian food in the area, unless you venture further up to carlingford. I think it warrants another visit from us 😃

Laksa and bak Kurt teh (weekend special ) is unbeatably delicious . Pork roll is my favorite too. Big portion , great value. Lovely family run restaurant .

Actual rating: 2.5

Decided to stop here for lunch after reading the good reviews and finding out that asam laksa was on special that weekend. It's a small shop tucked underneath an office(?) building so it's hidden from the street. We shared the asam laksa and the wat tan hor which the waitress recommended. Asam laksa was on the sweeter side but flavour was good. The wat tan hor was quite disappointing. Normally, the flat rice noodles are fried for a nice smoky flavour (wok hei) before being covered in an eggy gravy. The rice noodles here were lily white, likely because it hadn't been fried at all. Luckily, the egg gravy was nicely seasoned which made up for the blandness of the noodles. We bought a box of kuih ketayap (pandan pancakes filled with coconut and palm sugar) and kuih talam (similar to a firm custard made with pandan and coconut cream) for dessert. Another disappointment - kuih ketayap was hard and the filling was dry while the kuih talam was too salty. Service was friendly and food was quick. Overall, might not be a bad option if you're in the area (we might have ordered the wrong thing, the laksa seems to be the signature) but I wouldn't bother travelling for it.

Penang Cuisine is a bustling restaurant in the Genesis building in Epping. Came here with high expectations but weren't really amazed by our food. We ordered the Nasi Goreng, Char Kway Teow and Chendol (not depicted). The nasi goreng was really average but the char kway teow was quite enjoyable. Unfortunately the chendol was too sweet and weirdly came in a glass. The serving sizes here are really generous and it seems that their other dishes may be more promising.

Love their Laksa, we ordered their chicken laksa and that was amazingly good, pack with lots of flavour, big portion and decent price. Char Kaw Teoy and Lobak were okay.
Bw_betman
Came here after hearing good reviews on the laksa. It wasn’t bad but definitely not amazing. Easy quick dinner if you live locally but wouldn’t really call it a “hidden gem” per se

Really good laksa and their fried dishes also have lots of “wok hei”, a really smoky aroma, that is unique to wok fried dishes. Recommend you try the fried rice or a fried noodle dish to get the full effect.

It’s a small family run place with friendly service.

Parking can be quite difficult though

Authentic Curry Laksa at Penang Cuisine in Epping. Quite a hidden restaurant, only found out about it through reviews. The Hor Fun is so so only. Couldn't resist a good ol' Fried Ice Cream. Friendly staff

I have come here twice and was never disappointed by the laksa here. Our family decided to mix it up a bit last week and ordered salt and pepper squid as well as the chao kway teou (stir fry thick rice noodle). both of them were really greasy and salty and we didn't like it. However this won't stop us from coming back for noodle soups.

Never tried lobak? It’s a dish much loved in Penang, and central to any celebration or festival by Straits Chinese. These Malaysian five spice rolls ($6) combine tenderised pork mince with the crunch of water chestnuts, all wrapped up in a beancurd sheet and deep fried to a crisp. They’re one of the house specialties at Penang Cuisine, easily missed in its hidden corner within a modest commercial complex in Epping. And yet this compact 30-seater has a non-stop flow of students, families and couples huddled over steaming bowls of curry laksa, digging into plates of mee goreng fried noodles or squabbling over the last satay chicken skewer.

I had the chicken laksa and it was okay the fish cake tasted weird as did the singapore noodles they used in the laksa. Kinda like a freezer taste. Avoid dessert at all costs.

Thanks to my friend who took me to this hidden treasure in the Genesis building in Epping. Their laksa is delicious! Faire price, big portion and jam packed with lots of flavours! The shop is super busy, so better come in earlier than standing in the queue to wait later.

Great hearty dishes 😙 The nasi goreng was massive, way more than normal which was good to see. It did feel a bit heavy/buttery though so would be hard to finish. They only had meat spring rolls on the menu but the lady, who I presume is the owner, was more than happy to give us vegetarian ones. They were nice but one was quite soggy which was a tad off putting. The real star here has to be the curry laksa. It was delicious. I don't know much about authenticity when it comes to laksa, but either way it had a tasty soup with an abundance of veggies, perhaps could have done with more noodles though 😛, but that's just cause it was tasty and I wanted more!
Kelvin
Quite authentic Malaysian food as my Malaysian friends exclaimed the veggie curry laksa and bak kut teh are the nicest so far they have eaten in Sydney. The Fried Kueh Teow is superb as long as you do not compare to Penang Char Kueh Teow. The kueh teow is fried enough with wok charred smell. The mee goreng smells nice but the taste is not quite there. Overall we are still happy with the food and service here.

I've been here a few times for their Malaysian cuisine - half of the menu items are spicy so not many options for those that can't stand hot food. Their laksas and har mee are good but their (non-spicy) fried rices are pretty similar.

The restaurant is rather small (max. 30) so be sure to come early or really late to avoid the crowds, especially when there is a large rowdy group, because the sound resonates/echoes within the room.

One of my favourite places to go for a laksa! I usually get the chicken one but opted for a seafood one this time round. It's quite a big portion with a decent serving of seafood with prawns, fish, seafood extenders, fish balls, squid (which isn't rubbery) and fried tofu which soaks up all the soup. You can have a choice of mixing the noodles - vermicelli and the egg noodle, but I prefer vermicelli only, the vermicelli is not soft and mushy, which is really good. Truly a hidden gem!

PENANG CUISINE - EPPING, SYDNEY. 32/74-76 Rawson St. On a cold night when you just want to stay at home, chill out (but not chill) and relax, you can do a lot worse than having a nice meal of take away Malaysian.

On a cold night when you just want to stay at home, chill out (but not chill) and relax, you can do a lot worse than having a nice meal of take away Malaysian. We decided to do just that and finally try the popular Penang Cuisine in Epping. It's a small place that has gained a reputation for good food at good prices - so if it lived up to its reputation it would certainly ticked some important boxes for us straight away.
The Gastronaut
One of Sydney's best laksas! It's very rare to find any Malaysian cuisine in the North West of Sydney and thank goodness there's one here. Sure the decor is dated but the food is delicious and prices decent. Love the laksas, especially the once monthly Assam laksa. All the other stir fried noodles and deep fried prawns etc are full of spice and heat to make them authentic in flavour. Love it! The rotti isn't the best nor their curry chicken and their nasi lemak lacks the deep taste of real Malaysian curries.
Combination seafood laksa rocks!
Great for a quick bite or weeknight take away.

Overall, it was unfortunate that we found the food at Penang Cuisine wasn’t quite as Penang as we wanted it to be. Perhaps the flavours were localized to suit the local taste buds? Or perhaps we just had too high expectations? Having stayed in Penang for a good 4 years before, it’s hard not to compare. If anyone of you have visited this place before, we’re more than happy to listen to what you think! :)

Ah the lobak. I’d always wanted to try this dish, and for just a touch over $5, we ordered three of them. Lobak is a fried minced pork and vegetable roll, wrapped in a beancurd sheet.

Penang Cuisine is a friendly, family-run little Malaysian restaurant. In the kitchen is the most wonderful auntie in a bright floral shirt and glamourpuss hairdo, cooking up mostly hawker style Malaysian dishes, plus a few Cantonese crowd pleasers.

Great food. I often visit this spot for takeaway on weekdays and it never fails to disappoint. Most dishes I've had here have been good - laksa is great, CKT, singaporean and hokkien noodles are always spot on. While it isn't my favourite no. 1 spot for Hainan chicken rice, I usually visit when it's on the specials board (about once a month) and I always find it enjoyable.

Very basic little set up, on cnr of Beecroft and Carlingford Rds (although address is technically Rawson St). Do not be put off by the lack of flair...they save it all for the food! Roti Canai with chicken curry was amazing, as was the Loh Bak (Lobak on menu) and both laksas we had were ridiculously tasty. Cannot wait to go back. Service was great - very friendly. Big thumbs up!
Momoliu123
Tasty Malaysian food. We came here for dinner on a very quiet public holiday Monday night. The lady who served us was very friendly. Food was authentic and delicious. We will come again.

Ordered nasi lemak, dish came was nasi goreng. Enquired why is this and was told that the menu did not have such item and they only sell it during the weekend. Waiter even challenged me to check the menu again. Horrible customer service. Chicken curry was a bit powdery, belacan beans was watery, Mongolian lamb was too salty. Having said that, the laksa and char kway teow were really tasty.

Overall, I would not come back as customer service was horrible and left a bad taste in my mouth

Good meal.. It's best to book a table beforehand as the place may get busy. 'Roti chanai with chicken curry' was really measly for the price paid. The curry was OK, but the roti was flat and doughy. 'Wa tan hor' had too much veggies and was rather bland. 'Har mee' was deliciously spicy. 'Penang fried kuey teow' had a great breath of wok and was definitely the best dish that we ordered tonight. Overall quite filling, if not satisfying.

Food 7/10
Ambience 5/10

I go back atleast once a month with Lobak cravings!!
Best Lobak I've ever had, great prices and nice service.
