Review Pent Thai - Epping

Nigel Grant
Not impressed. I haven't visited Pent-Thai for many years but remember the food being fabulous with exciting flavour combinations. This time we visited on a Saturday peak period in last week of Aug 2017. Firstly, the staff were absolutely useless by starting to serve my dish on the wrong table, then salvaged it off the plate on the wrong table & then served it at our table with just some apologies! Both dishes we ordered had very average flavours with little chilli used, no fresh Thai herbs used to season or garnish the dish and the jasmine rice was a just a gluey glob. We were so disappointed with everything and they were expensive which motivated me enough to write this review.

Best Thai in Sydney. It's greatest strength are many original and amazing dishes ranging from entries, fried dumplings to my personal favorite, the grills (they are out of this world)! It's only a few meters walk from the station (the side facing the street)

Yummy food, great value Banquet $30/head and BYO small corkage. Been there many times over the years can recommend the macadamia prawns if the banquet doesn't work.

Our favourite Thai. We love going there as the food is really tasty and very authentic. One of the best Thai restaurants in Sydney

The price might be dearly but when you taste the food, you know why!! The prawn with coconut cream and the noodle dishes in general are so tasty and staffs are so kind!!@

Pent-thai is a little hole in the wall. It's a bit like dining in a cave, the plaster walls are covered with some quite impressive traditional pieces and to top the atmosphere off they'll often play relaxing jazz music (?). The food is eerily reliable and never disappoints. Get the pad peanut.

Great service. Some unique and delicious dishes on the menu. Definitely coming back!

Best Thai food in the area. The restaurant provides an elegant atmosphere and is a nice place to meet friends for dinner. Fortunately, they deliver for those occasions when you want to stay in.

Over priced for the average Thai taste... Nothing special. Portions are small. It's thievery for the price they charge and the quality of food you get. Looks like one of those restaurants on the downhill spiral to closing down.

Personally, a huge fan of Thai food. Price isn't expensive in comparison to it's impressive quality. Great food, looking forward to go again. Make sure to reserve seats though - just in case it gets crowded👍🏻

What a find!!!!

We arrived and there was a group of six, we left and the tables were nearly full. In the time we sat, many take away orders were taken. An indication of the popularity of the place.

The food was also UNIQUE. At Thai many times, they added something special. The staples were enhanced with eggplant and flavours that seemed new and exotic.

The curry was awesome, the chef special and daily special seafood ocean paradise was a return item.

Great service and atmosphere.

Always went to the place next door (Pho Sam) with my parents on Sundays in the past, but never once tried the place next door which was Pent Thai, until many years later. Decided one day to try it with a friend, and to be honest, I think I consider myself fortunate finding a decent thai place locally.

Ordered the staple chicken pad thai, and it delivered on the quality and price of $12. The atmosphere was very cosy and quiet, loved the volume of the restaurant. Definitely a great place for chatting over some fine wine too! Service was average, the usual. Would I go again? I've been twice. You figure!

Originally we wanted to go to Kenny's which was nearby. When we got there only to find the shop has closed down and moved to somewhere else. So we ended up stumble into Pent Thai.

For a start we ordered vegetarian peanut sauce fried tofu. I ended up scrapping away the peanut sauce and went straight for the tofu. Tasted weird for us.

Then vegetarian Tom yum, it is not too bad and suitable for those who loves slightly more sour Tom yum.

Finally the vegetables and tofu red curry. It was creamy with lots of fried tofu. We voted it was the best dishes among the 3 we have ordered.

Service was good, for the food compare to other thai restaurant we went, it was just ok.

Got some home delivery from Pent-Thai with the order being spring rolls, pad khing, and pad si lew. The spring rolls were decent, with just the right amount of crunch. They were one of the recommendations on Menulog but I don't know if they really were that stand out to be one of their best sellers. Pad khing is a ginger dish, and it sticks true to its description with a strong gingery flavour throughout the whole dish. Very pleasant if you enjoy ginger. Pad si lew was standard, not anything above other Thai restaurants, but I liked how it wasn't overly flavourful which can make it really salty.

Pent-Thai has been around for many, many years. Yet it has managed to survive and thrive. To be honest, I haven't been here for a very long time. When my friends suggested we catch up for dinner and suggested Pent-Thai, I thought why not visit an old food haunt? I think the restaurant seats up to 25 people and it was fully packed when I got there at 7.30pm on a Friday night. We were so hungry we decided to ask for all the dishes to arrive at the same time, i.e. entrees and mains served together. Tod Mun Pla (Thai fish cakes) - an absolute Thai staple. Finely minced fillet of fish blended with chilli paste, and Thai herbs which are then fried. Served with sweet chilli sauce (Thai style), cucumber and topped with crushed peanut. Yum! There were very authentic flavours to the fish cake. Bird nest spring roll (chef's special) - fried mini spring rolls filled with a mixture of crab, prawn and black mushrooms. Served with sweet chilli sauce and a side of garden salad. We chose this dish beca

Coming back from Kurri Kurri in the Hunter Valley, about two hour's drive north from the Sydney Harbour Bridge, my group of three stopped at Epping, a transit point for rail and bus in north-west Sydney. Jennifer suggested going to Pent-Thai for an early dinner. Opposite the train station along Oxford Street, the restaurant had staff dressed up in traditional Thai silk and colours. I had met the owner before elsewhere after being introduced by Jennifer and so I did have some expectations about this place after hearing so much about it. It was a late spring evening and we chose light selections to wind up the day. The best dish we had, I reckoned, was the aromatic and bite-crunchy deep fried chicken wings, not over oily and served with lettuce and a kicker hot chili sauce. KFC, better watch out! We also liked the pad see ew, with wide and flat rice noodles bathed in a gooey but tasty gravy mixed with fresh chicken slices. I noticed the Crying Tiger pork in the menu but we did not h

Pent Thai has been at Epping for several years now. I haven't been here very often despite its proximity because I always went to West Ryde instead. We were feeling lazy but hungry so we decided to try Pent Thai. From the outside it looks quite fancy. The Man was wearing his trackies so he was reluctant to go inside. The atmosphere inside, however, is cozy and the dim lighting makes sure that you're focused on your food and your friends. They also do free deliver for orders over $30 so I know where I'll be ordering from next ;) Chef's specials. The Man got the Crying BBQ pork (funny name) and I got a traditional pad siew with tofu. Very nice interior. Simple, but elegant. Pad siew. It was extremely sweet. The noodles were nice and greasy, not sticking to each other, and the there were enough vegetables in there for some fun chewing times. The tofu was soft and silky, not those hard cheesy ones that other places normally use. The Man's dish certainly was the victor of the night. The t

Used to love it. Sadly Pad Thai has changed hands and is no longer a great place

Best thai food in Epping. We only found this restaurant a few weeks ago, and have tried all of the chefs specials. The food is delicious and has a traditional touch. My girlfriend loves the herbal spicy duck, but my favourite has to be the bbq pork salad for its grilled flavour. The service is really friendly and entrees are great.

Brilliant. I hadn't been back for a while and gods only knows why as the last visit was great. Went back last night for my daughters 12th Birthday and the waitresses could not have been more attentative and professional, the food was amazing. We all shared a variety of dishes all very good but the Roasted Red Duck Curry and Fig Lamb stood head and shoulders above these. Absolutely magnificient!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't go anywhere else for Thai in Epping.

This is the only thai we eat at in the area, its not the best ever ir anything, its just good yummy food that meets expectations, im here 3 times a week for lunch specials and dinner. There are 2 different chefs, 1 of them is much better, but either way its still better than anything within a few suburbs of epping and i love it.
Chris
A little pricey for suburban Thai, but definitely the Best Thai in the area by a long shot.

The food was very nice, friendly service and nice atmosphere. However, the one negative that stood out for me was the tofu and vegetables - despite the tastiness of the tofu and vegetables I was sorely disappointed by the lack of tofu in the dish. Four small cubes of tofu and the dish costs $19. I question the value...

WOW. This place is amazing. The food is reasonably prices (it is thai food after all!) and the service is amazing. I can honestly say that I've been here dozens of times and I've never walked away disappointed! A must if you are in the area and looking for good thai!
