Nice place to check out whilst on a leisurely Saturday or Sunday walk along the river. I really enjoyed wondering through the large nursery but I came primarily for lemon tart which was recommended and was delicious. Also had the sweet potato waffles which was tasty and came together well with a serve of salmon and poached egg.
Poyntons is s cafe inside a nursery along the Maribyrnong river. It is a lovely cafe surrounded by the beautiful flowers in the nursery. We came here for brunch on Easter Sunday, although it was quite busy, there are plenty of seatings available in the cafe. The cafe is brightly lit, clean and have many nice pot plants used as decoration within the cafe. We ordered coffee ( skinny and soy latte), Benny ( egg Benedict) and Sabih ( Israel eggs). The coffee was alright but the food was fresh and delicious. The Benny comes with chunky ham, bacon crumbs and house made tomato relish which go well together. The eggs are perfectly poached too. The other dish Sabih was something different, more of a vegetarian dish but it was so big portion that really fill you up. We were planning to have dessert initially but will have to save it for next time.
Fantastic menu, great views and good service given with smiles. I just had the best chicken fettucine special of the day and I send compliments to the chef 10/10. Breakfast is also served all day.
Only one downfall - it's breezy if the doors to the not fully enclosed area are open. Nonetheless I rug up in winter and love coming here.
The cafe is inside the nursery. The elevated spot allows you a nice view of the river and beautiful flowers in the nursery. The service was prompt. Place looked clean. We had smashed arvo and mushroom and grains. Both dishes were delicious! Desserts in the cabinet looked really nice... Next time!
Staff members were very friendly and helpful - their chocolate lava cake and raspberry cheesecake are worth a try (note that the cake slice is huge so it's good for sharing)

Well this was a little gem of a find. Sitting on the balcony with 180 degree views of the river and nursery it was impossible to not immediately fall into a relaxing holiday state of mind. With the $50 5 x tapas plates and two glasses of wine it didn't take much convincing for our coffee stop to turn into a wine luncheon. I really wasn't expecting too much from this little cafe but they really delivered. Food and service was exceptional, portions were very generous and even as the little miss piggy I know I am, not even I could finish off any of the plates handed to us. The waiter we had was so lovely, at one point we were surprised that another plate was coming to out table, he reassures us to relax, enjoy the views and to take our time. What a perk to the day, already impressed with the nursery itself but to top it off with such a lovely lunch was superb :)
Came here for breakfast and had the rosti .. so flavoursome..great service..bit pricey but ok as we its a treat go go put for brekky for a change..not sure why people complain when brekky menu stops at 11.. after 11am ita nearly lunch time!! Get up early
Byron's Vanilla Slice Blog
+3.5
Although I have eaten at Poyntons a lot over the years, I had only tasted their vanilla slice way back in 2013 - long before the Snot Blog's real inception. I recall seeing the Sweet By Nature logo throughout their cake cabinet, but in comparing the SBN slice to the Poynton's one - I'm not so sure they are they same.I'm sure that the vanilla slice was yesterdays to start off with...I mean who would deliver fresh cakes on a Sunday? Having said that; there were some real positives here with a whipped, rich vanilla infused cream filling. Pastry would have been crisp and flaky yesterday with a lovely golden baked colour and flavour - but today just not the right texture. Topped with a sweet vanilla icing and accompanied by passionfruit and raspberry coulis and an extra dollop of whipped cream - I had to be rolled out!
Good for bigger groups. Service was very good and the food was above par. Excellent view of the river if you are near the windows. Can get noisy.
