It seems like it can be really difficult to find a good pie these days, so I'm thrilled to have discovered Tony's Pies on a busy street in Essendon. This cool bakery specialises in these pastry treats, but also has a huge array of sweet pastries too, such as vanilla slices, brownies and tarts.
The aroma when you walk in is intoxicating, so you know the pies are going to be awesome. We had a curry beef and a vegetarian, and they were both delicious., with extremely flaky pastry and really yummy fillings. The filling is generous, and seasoned perfectly.
Now that I have experienced Tony's Pies, I know I will be back to get more amazing pies from the friendly, efficient staff. It's definitely a winner.
Fantastic family run business that I’ve been coming to for years. They have all your Aussie faves, pies, pastries, quiche etc that you can get in regular or family size. Want something a little more creative? Try the lasagne roll or my personal fave, the cauliflower roll. It’s a dream. I’m getting a craving for one just writing this up. Definitely check them out.
Best pies in Melbourne. The lamb and vegetable pie is a Stella favourite backed up by the shepherds pie. If you’re in the area it’d be rude not to visit tony.
It's hard to find a bakery anymore, let alone one that serves awesome pies. I'm a little boring and order the traditional meat pie when I visit. Fluffy pastry and quality filling. Keep it up Tony!
Went to Tony's on a cold & rainy day- They definitely are the best pies in Melbourne. Service is exceptional, I will most definitely be returning!!!!!!
Had the lasagna roll and steak and caramelized onion. Was expecting a bit more, but was nice to finally try it after driving past so many times.
Really enjoyed the vanilla slice though!
The plain pie is average at best. However the pizza pie and Egg & bacon quish are absolutely awesome. Also they do good fruit pies and the sandwiches are always fresh and tasty
Wow! Cauliflower cheese rolls.... They are delish. Perfect for a cold winter lunchtime treat when you don't want to eat meat. I am hooked! Dangerous that I live so close :)
Great pies and such friendly service, a hard combination to come across these days. Coffee was awesome too. Will definitely be coming back.

Quiet local bakery that has been known to many for years as a family favourite. Serving an amazing library of pies and sausage rolls, I had to try it out!
Mushroom and steak pie 🥧 (4/5): their most popular pie, did not meet my high expectations. A bit too peppery for my liking. Mushroom and steak pie but I could barely make out the mushroom flavour. Wished the pie pastry was flaky. The crust had a nice thin layer which I liked about it. The highlight of the pie was probably the fattiness of that good quality steak that just melts right in the mouth. Some bits were a bit overcooked, but very yummy.
A bit overrated despite the abundant amazing reviews, but it was very mediocre for me.
Then I think about it, when do you ever get pies freshly made and bought? Most people just get their frozen pies from the supermarket. Worth the experience and you will most definitely see me back here!

Come here often to buy a meat pie. It’s pretty tasty. Haven’t tried any other pastries sure we will come back for different products :)
Friendliest staff and truely filling and delicious pies!! A must try if your in the area!! Had a family steak pie, soo good didnt feel like we needed to add sauce since it the gravy was just right!! Just for picture purposes added sauce on the plate. 100% will come back here after lockdown !!!
OMFG YUM!!! Finally, the smell of a REAL bakery! Perfect crispy buttery pasty, delicious and plentiful fillings and heaps of flavours to choose from! Add a seafood pie to the menu and it's complete! Didn't think I'd find pies that taste like old school country bakeries but this is a real gem. I'll be back over and over!
Where else to have a locally made and well cared for Pie? Great pastry (not too buttery and not cheap), lots of real flavours and awesome fillings. Great service too. I had a blueberry pie via the fundraising pie drive with the 5rh Keilor Scouts over 15 years ago and I was hooked. It's hasn't changed at all!
