Review Jade Pavilion Chinese Restaurant - Ferntree Gully

First meal out after the “freedom day” announcement from lockdown. We were looking for some nice Chinese based food and we weren’t disappointed. On entry, we loved the enthusiasm of the gentlemen that greeted and seated us after checking our vax status. The venue is a clean and open space with nice Chinese ornaments etc as expected. The menu is broad with pretty much every flavour you need if chasing a Chinese meal. We ordered: Hot sour soup Chicken and mushroom soup Half Peking duck (big and not inner city slivers in pancakes) Combination soft noodle Meals were delicious, ample and came out quick. Please note that the duck isn’t little slivers that most would be familiar with and you could almost just have these as your main with a rice. The combination noodle (soft) are egg/canton noodles and not the wide rice noodles (Ho fan) that you’d mostly know but was loaded with meat, prawn and calamari. The soups were delicious and the wife and I are still disputing which was the best of the two. Overall a great experience with efficient and friendly staff. Glad to see the turn over of take away and the max capacity here as we get back to normalcy. We left here happy and full (to the point of bursting). To the blonde woman at the table of seven, signing in isn’t a new rule and it was pleasing to see the old man let you know no sign in, no cert, no eat! We were glad to see him applying the rules of which we all live under to get back to it and support our local businesses. Thanks to all of the staff, especially with the help with the “doggy bag” to take away the remaining food. We will definitely be back to try more of your already tasty menu.

Authentic delicious food! Don’t often find little gems like this place. Super friendly staff, that I would like to thank for making our celebration extra special. We will definitely be back!

Booked for 20 for Mother's day. Was told adults have banquet, kids could order separately. On arrival chef decided kids must have banquet too. Not happy 😡 Son, daughter and 4 kids had to leave. Service was terrible. Had cold soup then entree. Waited over an hour for mains. Left instead. Previous owners terrific. Won't be going there again.

Took my children to a family dinner here for mother's day. Phoned ahead to make sure children could eat off the regular menu as there was a mother's day banquet being held. We were assured that would be fine for the kids to eat regular menu items. We sat for forty minutes before anyone came to ask us what we would like to order. Management refused to serve my children items off the menu and stated it absolutely had to be the banquet. My children have seafood allergies and i have severe wheat allergies, which the banquet did not cater for. We were told if we wanted anything other than the banquet, we would need to leave and find food elsewhere. The rest of the family stayed and ordered the banquet. The first meal was wonton soup and after half an hour, they were served chicken soup and told there was no more wontons left. They were then served a spring roll each and were left waiting for another hour before my mother in law approached the server and asked when the next meal was coming. The group were then informed that it was about to begin to be prepared. Plenty of people ordering food to go came and went and there seemed to be no issue with take away, however the family group and seemingly everyone else in the restaurant were left twiddling their thumbs. This place used to be our favourite place to go. Such a shame it's gone downhill. Would not recommend to anyone.

We walked out without paying! Were told when booking that we HAD to order a banquet, but could order off the menu for kids. That changed when we got there and no one could order off the menu - not even if vegetarian. After waiting 1 hour for soup (which we were supposed to get a choice, but they had run out of short soup - at 6.00pm!), then waited another hour for a Spring roll, we were asked if we wanted to "pace it out or keep it coming". Needless to say, we begged them to keep it coming. After another half hour we asked what was going on with our meals and we were told "we'll get onto that now." Won't ever be coming back. Doesn't even deserve 1 star.

OMG what happened!!!??? It was my family’s favourite restaurant. Todays experience was horrid. The waitress could not work out how to take orders. Continually kept on telling us how stressed out she was. Even told us to remember who ordered what, as it was too much for her to remember. Waited 20 minutes for drinks and the ice we requested never arrived. The birds nest combination has halved in size the nest itself was too hard for human teeth. Such a shame.

Ohh dear, what has happened. It's very obvious this place has been taken over. We got our usual takeaway of lemon chicken, beef, Singapore noodles and special fried rice totalling $85. Lemon chicken was dry and the batter overlooked and flaking off the chicken. The satay beef was tough and flavourless. The Singapore noodles and rice were bland and tasteless. I'm gutted because this place used to be AMAZING. It's obvious by other recent posts that I'm not the only one who feels this way. Won't be back unfortunately. Bit of advice to the new owners, sort yourself out or you'll be out of business in no time.

This was always a good restaurant, if a bit expensive. However, it has gone down hill. The portion sizes have decreased significantly and some of the meat (pork/beef) was tough. Ordered a takeaway dish and paid an extra $10 for extra meat (the 1 take away dish was $35 tot). Yet the container still wasn't filled to the top with the dish or even liquid. In the past the owners would also throw in a free bag of prawn crackers with orders over $30-40+ but no such luck now. I even miss the grumpy old Chinese lady at the counter who was a real character :-). At the prices that are charged the new owners need to lift the game back up. We won't be back I'm sorry.

We absolutely loved all the dishes here. The Mongolian beef, spicy salted chicken, lemon chicken, spicy sour prawns and roast pork with plum sauce. Everything was spot on in terms of flavour and texture.
Service was exceptional. Warm, friendly and efficient. Can't really fault this place.

A restaurant with large tables placed with individually folded napkins.

Each dishes is designed with an animal design carved from a carrot.

Deep fried squid - a thin crisp batter with juicy squid, seasoned with chilli, spring onions and shallots.

Duck fried rice- nice and oily and well charred.

Sweet and sour pork - a thin crisp batter drenched in sauce and mixed with thick chunks of veggies and pineapple.

Consistent, decent Chinese which isn't so easy to find in this area! Have eaten in & taken out & both are pleasant experiences. Customer service is always friendly. Don't have any particular recommendations of meals but good ol' westernised favs haven't been overly oily or sweet which is only a good thing!

After reading online reviews decided to try their takeaway as a test. Ordered 1 x large special fried rice, 1 x large steak and tomotoes and 2 x Fried home made dim sims. Could not be happier with serving sizes and quality of ingredients, as it was a phone order their was no waiting on pick up. Recommended if your into Chinese food👍

Authentic Cantonese food. Came here for dinner a few times and can't fault the food. Servings are huge and service is excellent. The menu is a bit suited for the Westerners but there are plenty of dishes to choose from that is good honest Cantonese food. Couldn't taste any msg as I wasn't thirsty afterwards. Will definitely go back

Lunch takeout from Jade Pavilion Chinese restaurant. One word sums up their lemon chicken dish... YUM!!! Don't hesitate to try this Chinese restaurant. Always has lunch specials too🙂 friendly ambiance if dining in.
5 out of 5

They have a good array of unusual dishes at this place and if I was to give feedback If I was to return, I would suggest backing off the salt. That is ruining your wonderful food. Too much salt in the fried rice, and Dim Sims which overpowers the taste. Salt is accumulative. Your competitor at Upwey doesnt do this and they have a roaring trade.

Ordered the take-away Dinner Pack 1 for $39 consisting of four large steamed dim sims, sweet and sour pork, chicken and vegetable and fried rice. Steamed dim sims were pretty good but didn't come with soy sauce. The chicken and seasonal vegetables were very bland and the chicken weirdly soft but tasted overall ok. The sweet and sour pork meat was heavily coated in batter. The sauce was very tasty and presented well. The fried rice was fine although a little plain. Often Chinese food makes me thirsty and although it didn't straight away, I did a few hours later. Although pretty bland overall, would still try again and try some different dishes.

The Jade Pavilion impressed us with both service and meals. I took my elderly parents to dinner there and they were welcomed very professionally. Accommodations were made for their needs, including western cutlery and the order of meals presented in the $28 banquet. (We found we couldn't fit in any dessert!). The sculpted garnishes were a lovely, flamboyant touch and the waiter, when I asked, kindly put ours in a container for me to take home to show my son. We'll certainly be back again.

I've always noticed this place but never been In to eat so thought I'd give it a go, definitely was not disappointed. Ordered one of the banquets which was reasonably priced with a decent amount to eat. The soup was absolutely delicious, I'm not normally one to rave about a corn soup but gee wiz this was magnificent, and if the rest of the menu was of this quality I'd be laughing. And... it was. Delicious fresh ingredients and fast friendly service, couldn't ask for more. I'll be back.

Love this place, we are regular visitors, as well as our friends and family, the best Chinese food around, at an extremely reasonable price, we enjoy the banquet. Say hello to Jimmy who is there to greet you as a long lost friend. Separate room for a large crowd also if you are celebrating a birthday or special occasion in a group. Lots of parking, restaurant is opposite Safeway, Ferntree Gully.

Food was good and reasonably priced. Very flavoursome.
Good if you want that retro Chinese vibe. Sizzling platters and hand carved vegetable bird garnishes.

Some of the best Cantonese food I have ever eaten, service is great food quality is also great, here on business from Sydney and a fan of "hot and sour" soup the Jade does the best I have ever tasted. The sour and spicy versions on the menu are well worth it so give it a try, I have eaten a lot of average Chinese food but fortunately this is not one of them. 5 Star!

First time my family and I ate at this restaurant tonight and Jimmy, our host was amazing. Really lovely and attentive. He helped us to order and we were very happy with the dishes. Food came out quickly and was really tasty. Definitely added to my top favs. Will be back for sure. Thanks Jade Pavillion! Keep up the good work!

I was so impressed with both the service and the quality of the dishes I ordered this evening. My 'go-to' dishes of spring rolls, lemon chicken, sweet & sour pork, steak & black bean sauce, special fried rice, and mixed vegetables was AMAZING.
Well done Jade Pavillon, you do good Aussie-Chinese food to an impressive standard!

This place has been my local Chinese place for as long as I can remember. The service is always good and food is great. Personal favorites are the Peking Pork or mixed stir fry basket.

Tasteless, Aussie-fied Chinese food. It was just OK. The waiter was very friendly, but it was otherwise quite disappointing. Check my review on Tripadvisor and you will see my full report.

Really Good... Except.... Whilst I agree with the other reviews, the food is great, the staff are friendly and helpful, these people (that wrote the reviews) are in a group of no more than 3, maybe 4 at the most... But I would point out that a group of more than 6, the service becomes very slow, granted that they're trying to dinner to all guests at the same time (which they failed to do) but still an hour+ between serving 4 entrees and main is a little too far.. Having said that, I would STILL recommend anyone going there.

Good standard. We love this restaurant. The service is perfect, you're always made to feel very welcome, and the prices are excellent. Although the food's only good, without being exceptional, the overall experience of eating here is great. Our Chinese home away from home!

BEST chinese food in the area!. Had the most amazing meal there tonight! They apologised for the delay in serving us but we found our Banquet was perfectly timed!!! Great atmosphere and they had non stop customers coming in to pick up take away which just goes to show you that a lot of people love the food as much as we did! Will become our regular place to eat after this evening.

Ben. Have been eating from Jade Pavilion for the past 6 years and the food has always been great. Great variety, well priced and good size dishes.
Danny and the staff are always friendly and the service is excellent.
We will keep going back, especially for the cantonese beef.

Couldn't ask for more. Had booked at another restaurant for 10 people but turned up... No booking! Called Jade Pavillion as I'd eaten a great meal there before and they were life savers! 10 people unannounced &10 very satisfied customers. Cannot speak highly enough of staff & chef's, awesome service & awesome food. Thanks Jade Pavillion.

Gwennie. Best Chinese food I've had in years. Eleven of us went out for our daughter's birthday and we ended up there after a messy start to the night - so they weren't expecting us. we all had something different and we each went away very satsified with our meals. Our waiter was also superb, dealing with 11 unexpected diners. I have "been off" Chinese food for years as haven't really been that impressed with the usual humdrum taste so was most pleasantly surprised. Want to return - and soon!

Really beautiful food and wonderful service! I can't believe I hadn't discovered this gem sooner. We dined here on Saturday night. We turned up past 9pm when most other diners were nearing finishing up. This was no problem at all, a table was set up for us and in no time we were tasting some devine dishes! Will definitely be back :)

Fantastic service. We had a short time for our meal. They told us how things were progressing and we got to where we needed to be in good time. Good was yummy!!

Fantastic. We eat at the Jade Pavilion often. Their take away is fantastic as well. You always get a good sized meal and it's always hot and fresh. The owner Danny is a great host, customers are always well looked after.
