Review Sir Charles - Fitzroy

Only tried their Sir Charles Blend Coffee. It's a smooth taste. There's no bitter aftertaste. The place looks awesome. Would love to be back for their food. Servers were polite and quick to ask us if we needed anything.

Great selection of deserts. They have had to raise prices due ti increased costs. Also 10% surcharge on weekends. Key lime pie great.

Really friendly staff, very accommodating to our group of six. Timely service. Great food and unique menu. First time I’ve tried a Hoji-cha latte and it was lovely. Would come here again to try something different.

I had the Sir Charles benedict which consisted of Panko Crumbed Eggs with Sriracha Hollandaise, Bacon, Fresh Chilli roti is the menu option but i opted for sourdough food was really nice, the coffee and juice where also nice and fresh. The venue is well set out and the staff are friendly in typical Fitzroy fashion parking is a pain but that's nothing against the Cafe. Will return and recommend

The waiting time is insane when busy hours. However, it turns out to be worthy. Food and busk cheese cakes are delicious. The potion and the coffee is mediocre though.

Sir Charles benediction was good and also the chicken potpie, but don’t try the potato gems, its not worth to try cause the size and price $10 for that small hash brown.

I never review places online. But this was very sweet so I feel it should be recognized. I’m currently in quarantine - so I was confined to order in today. I placed an order on uber eats. Waited about an hour and a half for the delivery guy who eventually cancelled after picking it up. I replaced the order and the next one went through (bit delayed again because Uber was having issues finding a delivery person again). Well, the food eventually got here. It was fantastic as usual. But the staff also must’ve noticed the excessive wait I had with Uber issues, because they wrote a cute note and threw in some extra free stuff just to be nice!! Very much so appreciated :) Thank you all. Happy new year!

Service was fast, and staff were very professional and very friendly, especially our waiter. Food was amazing and so were the coffees. The key lime pie was also perfect, and it was house made. The interior is also very welcoming and tidy. You can tell the staff actually care about their job. no complaints overall, perfect experience!

Friendly service here and my strong skinny latte was good.

But the highlight for me was the carrot cake which was moist and creamy and just perfect.

The poor barista appeared to be working alone and he forgot my cake, which was unfortunate and the waiting times were long.

But I'd definitely go back when I had more time.

Came here on a referral from a friend who lives in the area but she warned me that it's not a small quiet place which is what I like but said the food was good.
I ordered the eggs benedict on roti - OMG delicous. The iced latte strong and tasty. The juice my friend ordered was excellent.
They roast their own coffee on site and you can watch the dude at work. Seating is at a variety of high tables, high benches, little booths, tables and more - stretches right out to the back. It's very crowded at 11am. Very much a hispter place but there was the odd couple of us over 50.
Certainly worth a try.
$68 for 4 of us. Not bad.
Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. High chairs available. Parking not too bad out front but there is a time limit.
Toilets are unisex eg neither mens or womens and very clean.

Food, service and coffee are all okay here. I ordered the mushrooms with eggs and toast option. Although it tasted good and the eggs were cooked well they weren't very generous with the mushrooms which was disappointing as that was meant to be the "star" of the dish.
Foodiee
Big glass door with a very open space dining room. During my visit, there were only a handful of customers and the back section was sealed off, hence feeling a bit cold. The quality of the food was ok. The wagyu burger was tasty but the sauce on the salmon tasted a bit sour... the bowl would have tasted a lot better if served warm. The panko-crumbed eggs were a little disappointing as the skin was not crispy. Coffee was average. Maybe this was their off day.
Pinch Of Bacon
The food presentation was lovely but the flavour just lacked a bit of punch. They forgot to bring the tea so by the time it got to the table it was so strong that it would put hair on your chest. Also forgot to bring our other drink that we ordered later.

This is a great Fitzroy cafe in the heart of this suburb. As soon as I walked I noticed how spacious it was inside, it is very well decorated and inviting.

We all started off with some coffees; soy latte, skinny flat white and long black. Really enjoyed the flavour of the coffee that we all had another cup. I also couldn’t resist trying one of their smoothies. I had the peanut butter and banana flavour which was nicely rich and sweet.

We ordered three different dishes; buttermilk hotcake, pea and ricotta fritter, and smashed avocado toast. The hotcake was very soft, not overly sweet and nicely topped with grilled banana and berries. The fritters were very light, tasty and accompanied by two poached eggs and crispy prosciutto which was the ideal addition to the dish. The smashed avocado was also delicious and had a different topping of crispy cauliflower which was very yummy.

Definitely keen to come back to this cafe to try many of their other dishes!

The young guy (Steve?) had fantastic hospitality skills and we watched him greet and chat with several other regulars who clearly loved the service! he was great and a valuable asset to that business as was the great waitress who looked after everyone almost single-handedly. The great food was a bonus on top of our experience at this non-cliquey venue that welcomed all
from the ‘fill my keep cup’ folk on route to work to large groups with young families. Highly recommended

Sir Charles is a cool, modern cafe located in Fitzroy. Their staff were very friendly and welcoming, especially Sharon who looked after us!
For drinks we had the Strawberry Crush smoothie and an iced almond latte. The coffee was really nice, and the smoothie was very refreshing.
We also ordered the wild party, the smash, and the pink lady waffle. All dishes were delicious, with large portions.

All in all, an amazing feed with excellent service, and a great vibe! 😊

For the Brunch inspiration this holiday season, we would strongly recommend that you visit @sircharlesfitzroy like we did.
.
.
Starting from the ambience and interiors everything was schmick, very spacious with heaps of natural light and interior plants.
.
.
Coming to food - it was just mind blowing including the smoothies.
We ordered -
1. Golden smoothie with mango & passion fruit and strawberry crush - both of which were just amazingly good.
2. Prawn toast with fried egg 🍳- which had the asian twist to it.
3. The smash - avocado smash with eggs 🥚 which had plentiful of smashed avocado 🥑
4. Wild party - roasted mushrooms, poached eggs and sourdough bread 🍞
.
.
This was one of the best tasting brunch we have and we cannot wait to go back already!!

I absolutely adored this cafe! I visited with the lovely @un , and we had a delicious brunch full of unique & Asian inspired cafe dishes

A contemporary, open aired space full. I loved the touches of hand written menus & abundance of plants which brought unique character to the space!

The smoothies tasted very fresh. I loved the richness of the cacao in the PB & Banana smoothie!

The food was impeccable. My favourite dish was the pink lady waffle, which was so sweet, with some added crunch & fresh fruit to top! I also loved the prawn toast, which was crispy, salty & topped with a perfectly fried egg that was also oozy.

Amazing staff, who are very kind & welcoming. We got some great menu recommendations from them.
Hello. Imnikki
Sir Charles' spring menu is one not to be missed. With an impressive selection of naughty and nice dishes, every taste bud would be catered for here.

We started of with coffees and as usual, they did not disappoint. Strong and smooth brew, and with a creamy mouthfeel. The smoothies are just as impressive - beautiful flavours and just the right thickness in consistency.

We tried a few dishes and the pink lady waffles and prawn toast were my favourites. The waffles had the perfect soft and fluffy texture, and the baklava crumble and kataifi pastry added an element of texture to the dish. The tartness from the fruits offset the sweetness of the syrup and fairly floss, making this a dish that was very well-balanced in flavours.

The prawn toast was similar to those you can get at yum cha but this was much more superior. Thick slice of toast that was both soft yet crisped, juicy prawns and the most delicious nam jim sauce.

The salmon egg benny and chilli scrambled were delicious too, and I couldn't fault the execution and flavours of both dishes. The saltiness of the haloumi and sweetness of the currants lent flavours to the otherwise very healthy white forest salad, a dish that was clean eating goals.

A very enjoyable meal and the prawn toast has to be one of my most memorable cafe dishes of the year. Thank you for having me.

After visiting this cafe a few years back I was very excited to visit Sir Charles for the second time.

All dishes are heavily inspired by Asian infused flavours and ingredients.

I really enjoyed the large warehouse space inside. Light bounced through the glass windows illuminating the timber seating and vast array of scattered green plants. This cafe has numerous seating options from small benches to large rectangular tables for bigger groups.

The coffee was delicious, as it is roasted on site. Cocktails and numerous coloured smoothies and juices are also on offer.

Dishes which I tried:

1) Salmon Benedict
2) Charles Garden
3) OMG Pancakes
4) Chicken Waffles

My favourite item would be the OMG Pancakes. This is the perfect dish for sweet- tooth’s. The pancake is light and fluffy in texture. The backlava crumble, rose water syrup and kataifi pastry work in unison with the other dish elements to create a magical dish.

Sir Charles does not allow split bills.

Booking however can be made for groups more than six, using their online booking system.

Looking forward to visiting again soon.

Invited to try the Spring menu, Sir Charles offers creative and tasty dishes in a spacious bustling cafe. We tried the following; salmon egg bennie, chilli scramble, white forest, prawn toast and pink lady waffles. Everything was outstanding, a couple of my favourites were the prawn toast which is a million times better than what you get at yum cha. Think thick crispy toast with actual prawns, fried eggs and apple salad. The chilli scramble was flavoursome and the eggs were scrambled to perfection.
Overall you can't go wrong with whatever you chose from the menu. Would recommend!

Its delicious but overrated. If you come here, you should order their signature egg benedict! The price is okay compared to the other brunch places.
Cookielessvee
Nice wooden tables and interior, each section with its own set up. Live ferns and oxygen bearing plants are placed around the cafe.

White forest - roasted cauliflower florets with haloumi, rocket, tanini yoghurt, almond, currents with an additional coffee cured salmon. An abundant amount of rocket and some cauliflower. The hallomi is in large chunks and the yoghurt and currents are about the only flavour there is to the dish. A slight disappointment.

Peppermint hot chocolate. Ever so sweet and so decadent. The drink is presented in a solid cup.

Prawn toast - thick, crisp soy caramelized prawn toast. Decorated with the sweetest apple slaw, crushed peanuts and a perfectly sunny side up egg. The nam jim sauce is full of flavours and a combination of tangy and sweet.

Thankyou for having us.

The best coffee and really fresh fast good food it's a must-try the way they crumb the poached eggs is really cool

I attended the Sir Charles Fitzroy new spring menu launch and OMMGGG I was so impressed with the new dishes! The team really went to great lengths to perfect them all, and each came out more delicious than the last. We tried;

- Salmon Benedict
- Charles Garden
- OMG Pancakes
- Prawn Toast
- Chicken Waffle

The OMG Pancakes and prawn toast were my absolute faves! The presentation of the pancakes were so unbelievable and I loved the middle eastern inspired flavours. The prawn toast was perfectly cooked, and was such a huge serving. The interior of this cafe is so stunning too, and very spacious.

Definitely one to visit - I can’t wait to go back 🥳

Such a beautiful place, cozy place to hang with group and the food are so goodddd.

The salmon benedict was too salty

It's all about the eggs apparently! But then panko-crumbed poached eggs served with Sriracha hollandaise, salmon rillette, spinach, burnt chilli on roti (Salmon Benedict) or wok-tossed mushrooms replacing the salmon for the Veggie Benedict are pretty difficult to pass by. Delicious. Good coffee and a lot of other items on the menu that have appeal will mean this big, airy, open cafe will be visited many more times!

Charles Benedict ($20)
⭐️ 4/5 ⭐️
🍴Interesting take on an #eggbenedict, having panko-crumbled eggs that were poached perfectly and bacon with siracha hollaindase atop roti. The portion was slightly smaller than average and we felt that there could be more roti than the thin slice to balance off the greasier bacon. That being said, all the flavours went well together and I enjoyed the unique deviation from a typical Benedict at this spacious and pretty cafe
📍@sircharlesfitzroy, 121 Johnston street Fitzroy, Melbourne, Victoria

Really liked the interior decorations and an overall nice place to sit in. Ordered the Pastrami Toastie that was served with a generous amount of cheese, and a good portion size (could only finish half and had to takeaway the other half).

Breakfast was amazing , I ordered the smash and the fried cauliflower was amazingly. The staff were super friendly also.
Eleanor
Coffee here was okay though the soy milk in their latte tasted nice.
Food here however was amazing! Definitely the highlight of this cafe.
The breakfast salad was packed full of greens yet very filling. The spiced crushed almonds really elevated the dish and was my favorite part of the dish. The pumpkin hummus was tasty too, not too creamy or chunky.
the sweet potato fritters has a twist to it where the fritters were baked and not fried. Thus it was soft yet still had the charred fritters flavor. My favorite part of that dish is definitely the sweet potato crisp on top! It had a good crunch to it and was very well seasoned 😋
FoodN
Nice smooth coffee. Eggs cooked well and the porridge is delicious ( probably not healthy at all but tasty al the same ). I often go early but imagine that it would get very noisy when full.

A stunning cafe in the very trendy suburb of Fitzroy!

We ordered the Popcorn cauliflower was next level INSANE! Wow. Yep this is a thing 👅🌞🌻
The Waffles; which were beautiful & simply delicious!

Super yummy food and a great atmosphere!

Sir Charles Benedict. Been wanting to try this place for a while! Seen the photos and posts and each picture made my stomach grumble 😂 this Asian inspired eggs Benedict was a great option. The Sriracha hollandaise was easily a point of difference and gave such a good flavour to the dish which combined the crumbed eggs and roti base into a delightful mouthful 😊 will be back to try the waffles ✊ 7.5/10 for overall coin, portion and flavour ☒
Bambina
sir charles is amazing, really enjoy the ambiance, food and service. One coffee is never enough, always get a mid week craving for the eggs Benedict with the soft fluffy rotti bread
Christine
One of the best brunch cafe in Melbourne!! Their egg benedict is one of the big yes. Definetely a go to place when you want to try something delightful with family/ friends. Been going back to here few times because their foods are just marvelous❤️

🥐 Sir Charles Benedict
Panko-crumbed eggs with Sriracha hollandaise, bacon and fresh chilli on roti
.
The best Benedict I’ve tried so far. Instead of using English muffins, they used roti bread. Using roti made everything less soggy and still remained the crispiness. It went perfectly with the crispy eggs on top. The whole dish was unexpectedly good and flavourful. I love it so much!
Would love to go back and try other dishes.
Makan2Melbourne
A staple because of their ‘Sir Charles Benedict’, it was a memorable dish. Came back a few times just for the benedict. The ‘Sir Charles Benedict’ had perfectly coated crispy egg, crispy roti, and not too much sauce. Everything in the dish works perfectly. However, I couldn’t say the same for their other dishes. Their other dishes tend to be inconsistent. Even tried their salmon benedict, which I thought would be the same as sir charles benedict, but it was way too much sauce, and everything became soggy, it was just not good. The fried chicken was unexpectedly good, though. It was crispy and flavourful, and it came with a refreshing salad. Also tried their truffle dishes, but it was just average. Wouldn’t recommend dishes other than ‘Sir Charles Benedict’ and maybe fried chicken.

Delish experience at Sir Charles - such an inviting cafe, full of greenery and light. Enjoyed a serving of the “Sir Charles Benedict” - panko coated eggs with a helping of sriracha hollandaise, bacon and roti bread - the food baby was satisfied 😂 My friend enjoyed the pork belly, making sure every morsel was munched up from the plate. Would definitely return 👍🏻

Explore with me? Follow me on IG:
@abbeyexplores

Isabella Pan took over the reins of Sir Charles 2 years ago. A former accountant, Isabella decided to team up with her cousin Tony to buy into Sir Charles when it came up on the market. They decided to keep the venues heritage, putting their own personal touch.

Sir Charles continues to pay homage to Sir Charles Augustus Fitzroy, the British military officer and politician that this suburb was named after.

Since my last visit, the coffee bar has moved to the front of this large Johnson Street site. It's still spacious and airy, with glossy white tiles, light timber furnishings, and copious greenery. The exposed beams accentuate the industrial feel, while the freshly painted white walls gives the cafe a clean cosy atmosphere.

Where a vintage probat once sat, is now a corporate meeting room, and the brew bar has the addition of wine and cocktails. The menu features coffee from AU79, and modern contemporary breakfast and lunch offerings.

The menu features the signature Sir Charles Benedict with panko crumbed eggs and sriracha hollandaise; French toast with gingerbread and white chocolate crumbs; and Buffalo Mozzarella on sourdough.

Coffee is sourced from AU79, with both espresso and filter options available. I was most impressed by their Espresso Martini, which paired well with the French Toast.

Raised my martini glass (and little finger) in honour of the great man who inspired the venues name, and the great humans who make it run like clockwork today.

We went there to have a brunch. The place was nice, I like the ambience there. The food were also good. We ordered salmon & sir charles benedict. All tasted amazing. They melted in your mouth and just blessed your morning.

Beautiful coffee and environment to work in. The clean and sleek interior amplified the rich and deep coffee tones. Unfortunately I didn’t have enough time and I am going to have to come back for food soon!

Went there for brunch on sunday. I had the green breakfast which was a generous portion of lots of greens beautifully flavoured with roasted almonds and pumpkin hummus. Really enjoyed it. And my partner liked his eggs as well. Good and quick service too. Would love to go back and work my way through the menu.
The smashed avo was amazing and the buffalo Mazzarella was even better.

Great #brunch vibes! The egg, salmon and veggie Benedicts are amazing and one of the best I’ve tried - it has an amazing sauce and roti wrap. Definitely, a must-try!
TheTwinsDiary
For all egg bennies fans, this place is definitely a must try!
They have 3 egg bennies option: Sir Charles benedict (with bacon), salmon benedict (with smoked salmon), and vegie benedict (with mushroom)
My favorite is the sir charles benedict :)

One of the most unique (and delicious!) eggs benedict dishes I’ve ever had!

FOOD: I ordered the Veggie Benedict while my friend ordered the French Toast and both dishes were amazing! I tried abit of the French Toast and I LOVED how cinnamon-y it was! The bread was also super fluffy so that was really amazing! For people who love cinammon-y dishes, you’ll love this! For me, I got the Veggie Benedict and it was... life-changing. As a Malaysian, my roti standards are high and Sir Charles did NOT disappoint! The mushrooms were cooked to PERFECTION! They weren’t too salty and with the roti and srirarcha hollandaise, it was absolutely magnificent! The panko eggs were interesting as well! I would HIGHLY recommend this dish to anyone and everyone! Loved this dish so so much!

SERVICE: Normal 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sir Charles is iconic for their unique brunch dishes and especially for their benedicts and I can see why! Their unique twist on them didn’t disappoint and instead impressed and I would definitely come back again for the same dish because it is just so so incredible!
Sense Of Food
📝: Named after Sir Charles Augustus FitzRoy, Sir Charles was established to serve some of the city’s best food and coffee. Their warm staff will make you feel right at home, so come in and say hello and warm yourself up with some comfort food this cold weekend!

❤️: The Smash—smashed avo with spiced peanut dukkah, dill oil, crispy cauliflower popcorn bites and poached eggs on seeded sourdough toast. A healthy and satisfying dish that will light up your day. Let that egg yolk ooze onto that smashed avocado and bacon. Incredible.

Stay tuned for Sir Charles’ rotation of weekend specials, especially their oldie but goodie chili scramble on toast. Cooked to perfection with a tinge of spiciness, mellowed out with dollops of creamy labneh. They’re not a regular here! They come and go once in a while so make sure you’re kept up!

Sir Charles is your classic cafe in the heart of Fitzroy. Busy but spacious, lush and green with amazing food and lovely staff! I had the French Toast, The Smash (avocado) and a couple of coffees and they didn’t disappoint. All really fresh and delicious!! Will be back again for sure! 🤩

Headed here for brunch, what a lovely and inviting space packed with people enjoying great food and really good coffee. My salmon Benedict was so tasty, served on roti this was an interesting twist but worked well. The chicken burger was delicious too. Plenty of seating but it can get a bit noisy. Head here for a great experience.

Such a lush, plant and light filled venue. We enjoyed some delicious green dishes and the serving sizes were great. The coffee was also delicious! They had a pancake special which we didn’t get but I wish we did, it looked amazing! A great spot in Fitzroy.

At first glance, Sir Charles looks charming with its bright, spacious and clean interior. First look at the menu also offers a creative, unique take on classic ingredients.

I ordered The Smash with a side of cured trout.
It’s a unique blend of different textures, however it’s a little let down. The smashed avocado’s texture was too soft & tasted a little bland it becomes overwhelming. But the poached egg was cooked to perfection and the crispy cauliflowers were amazing. Too bad there were only three pieces of it.

Service wise, the staff were quite attentive but the one that served us seemed unsure when we asked about the special menu.

Overall, it’s a fine experience but nothing really extraordinary.
Suzie Scribbles
Open plan, minimal and loud Sir Charles is everything quintessential about Fitzroy brunch. Yet the menu is anything but, with some unique takes on...
Leila
The space is so open and inviting, lots of gorgeous greenery and light. Quite possibly one of the nicest looking cafe’s I’ve been to in Melbourne. I didn’t have any of their menu items, just a coffee and a croissant but they were both delicious, and I will definitely be going back!
Jessica Sargeant (Unbeleafablefood)
The decor is here is SO COOL! Great vibes and service.

I tried the HOUSE MADE COCONUT YOGURT with granola and fruits. It’s not what I’d usually go for but it just sounded delish and I was definitely not disappointed. Such a sweet and fresh dish, light and filling at the same time.

I also tried a Magic coffee for the first time and its tinge BEST!
Chronicles Of Nardia
Sir Charles is located on Johnston Street in Fitzroy. Walking in I was swooning over the interior, a huge space filled with light & plants. One of the most beautiful venues I’ve had the pleasure of visiting.

The menu was impressive & creative which made choosing tough. We started with a latte & turmeric latte which were excellent. We settled on a few dishes to share & smoothies.

The spiced sweet potato fritters were presented beautifully with poached eggs, fennel, pomegranate & sweet potato crisps. We added cured ocean trout & it was a well flavoured dish that we both enjoyed.

The pastrami toastie was incredible, wagyu pastrami, grain mustard, smoked mozzarella, pickles, sauerkraut with a fried egg on top. I’m such a big fan of a good toastie & the flavours in this one were absolutely delicious.

We finished with the French toast. Christmas pudding spiced brioche with creme fraiche custard, summer fruits & a gingerbread white chocolate crumb. Another gorgeous dish that tasted even better than it looked. I loved the attention to detail, the fresh cherries were halved & pitted which meant that you could enjoy them as part of the dish.

We loved everything about Sir Charles, from the amazing food to the beautiful spacious fitout. As a plant lover, the abundance of green & living plants was a delight. Thanks so much for having us.

The coffee here is really good. Atmosphere and staff is cozy and friendly.I order the French toast, yum but a little bit sweet for me , probably try egg Benedict next time.

THE BEST SALAD I HAVE EVER HAD.

I was pleasantly surprised by Sir Charles.

I love my breakfast greens and my word did they give me breakfast greens. I asked for more spinach, kale, mushrooms and an extra egg. The portion was HUGE. I loved it.

The staff are also super friendly and I really enjoyed my meal. The atmosphere was relaxed.

The menu has all the classics, some with an Asian twist. They also have a cake cabinet with many many goodies.

9/10

4.5/5
The sir Charles eggs benny was an absolute cracker of a dish. Eggs cooked perfect, lots of very tasty hollandaise and good amount of bacon. Really good! Smashed avo also tasty. Nice fit out and friendly service

Hire more staff! It’s a large floor but at 10.30 on a Monday morning they only had two people making coffees, staffing the register and waiting tables. My coffee tasted like chai because they hadn’t washed their jugs properly.

Throwback to when I first started brunching 5 years ago, Sir Charles was one of my introductions to the art of brunch. Fast forward to today and I had the pleasure to be invited back to experience their new summer Asian-inspired menu!. What stood out to me most when walking into Sir Charles was how modern the interior was but how it has kept its warehouse origins with exposed beams and old signage from its history. It makes it stand out from being cookie cutter modern. There is also an obvious care from the staff for food and service, not just for myself as an invited guest but looking around it looked as though most customers got the same treatment which impressed me. Based on this impression in the first 15 minutes, I was excited to try some of the food!
Hell's Kitchen
What a great place to hang out and have some quality brunch. Although the food took 30 mins you quickly put emotions aside when you experience the panko crumbed eggs in the Sir charles benedict dish. Price was surprisingly good for at $29 all up.
Table service there is pretty good as well, all waiters/waitresses seemed positive and enthusiastic
I look forward to trying something different on the menu next time
Who’s that guy? He was the a British military officer, politician and member of the aristocracy,. who held governorships in several British colonies during the 19th century [skip] [skip] [skip] Australia …. Back to the original story of our food journey cause it’s not a history lesson 🙂

Have been coming to Sir Charles over the years and always ordered the iconic Benedict. Finally tried their French toast special and it was so good! Loved the cream fraiche and the balance of the fresh fruit! Service was quick and pleasant. Will be back!

Have been here a couple of times now and enjoyed my brunch both times! The coffee is also very good quality. I really like the atmosphere of this restaurant - spacious, modern and a great laid back place to eat on the weekend.

We went here during winter but it was a sunny breezy one! Recommended by my brother who happens to be a uni student. The place is convenient clean and is pretty nice for chit chats and the service was excellent. The food was good and has its own complexities (in a good way). In terms of price for a college student it is kinda pricey but is definitely worth it.

4.5

We came into Sir Charles the other day and loved the beautiful industrial interior. The menu was a really intriguing one and I had so many dishes I wanted to try but sadly could not order them all.

We opted for the salmon benedict on roti bread, the buffalo mozzarella and the beef cheese burger. The salmon benedict was outstanding, love the crispy flakey roti bread and the flavourful hollandaise sauce . If you visit Sir Charles I recommend getting one of the benedict’s as it is a signature for a reason.

The buffalo mozzarella was a really nice refreshing dish, would love this in a salad form next to a steak ! The only thing I would have liked on this dish is to add a salty element on the dish as the flavours are very delicate. Nevertheless it was still a beautiful dish

The cheeseburger was really delicious, we loved the chips so much – extremely crunchy and not greasy. The burger patty was really juicy and tender, although it did not come out medium rare which we advised ,we still thoroughly enjoyed it !

Thanks for having us in !

Trying to be polite but this place is very disappointing. Coffee straight out was not drinkable and the food was pathetic. Scramble is were watery and almost tasted like powered egg. Toast was pressed in a sandwich press which I find really lazy on the chefs behalf. Ordered a side of halloumi fries and we frozen out of a packet from coles chucked in the deep fryer. We told the waitress/manager about our experience and she didn’t care.

I had brunch here with a friend on Saturday and left very satisfied. The staff were lovely, and service was very quick. I had the Mork hot chocolate which was delicious! I also had the panacotta which was delicious. Will definitely return!

Having bookmarked Sir Charles some time ago it was a treat to finally pay them a visit. The cafe decor and fit out is trendy, cool and sophisticated.

Service was really good along with the menu. My partner and I both ordered the beef short rib and we shared the loaded fries. The beef short rib was beautiful to look at with vibrant colours popping out and the rib centred on the plate. The taste was nice however the short rib wasn't what I was expecting, it tasted a little bland and I couldn't taste the tamari or ginger as promised. Not a bad dish by any means but just not a 'knock your socks off' dish. The fries, OMG - my tastebuds were in heaven! Everything about this was just spot on, the chilli bursts, the parmesan and coriander.. yuuum

Coffees were excellent, definitely a place to try if you're in the area.
Tinmans Treats
I came here on a Sunday morning with a friend who was invited to try their menu.

There are some dishes that are worth the hype, and the sir Charles benedict is worth it. An Asian inspired version of eggs benny, I really enjoyed the panko-crumbed eggs and the sriracha hollandaise, and it was a nice change to have it served on roti. An inspired choice.

We also tried the beef brisket burger, and shared the smoothie bowl special. I do have to give special mention to the home made fruit roll ups – it brought me back to childhood.

Coffee was decent and service was particularly stellar. Definitely worth a visit for the Asian-influenced eggs benny.

You get great food and amazing service from the friendly staff! The ambience of the place is really great too for a relaxing day! 10/10 would definitely recommend to a friend!

Fantastic brunch! Prepare to line up though, this place gets super busy. Such an inventive menu and excellently executed. Loved the eggs Benedict and the smashed avo was delish. Servings are massive - you won’t leave hungry! They have some great baked sweets too if you want to take some away or have some with coffee. Highly recommend!

This place has been on my bucket list ever since i saw their famous waffles. The restaurant is spacious and relaxed with indoor plants to make it feel like your in a mini garden. We came on a Saturday morning before the afternoon rush. Even though it was only 9.30am their all day lunch menu was a hit for breakfast!

What we had....

Beef Short Ribs: We were recommended to try their beef short ribs. The ribs were tender and juicy and were soft. Accompanies with roasted carrots and a light salad this is the perfect hearty meal. An yes! you can have this for breakfast because its an ALL DAY LUNCH MENU!

Special of the week: Calamari salad with coconut dressing.
We were happy to try one of the specials for the week. It is great when restaurants have a new special every week as it makes you want to come back every week. The salad was fresh with lightly fried calamari. The salad was a perfect combination of flavours with Green Papaya, cucumber, shallot, roasted rice and a Tamarind and Coconut Dressing.

Coconut Panna Cotta:
As usual a sweet is a must! This Panna Cotta wasn't a smooth wobbly one. Instead it was textured and was accompanied by sorbet and jellies bringing the flavours together.

What an amazing cafe! We can’t believe we haven’t visited earlier. The food was fresh and delicious. The Eggs Benny has a different spin on it which we loved and stood out. The loaded fries were so good you have to pull yourself away to stop eating them. And our favourite dish was the smoothie bowl - the coconut yoghurt, made in house, was absolutely perfection! Definitely a place to try!

breakfast was just not bad but the muffin was really a killer. like the pistachio cream. the cake was neither oily nor dry, and a lil baked to hard on the outside.
Good Food Good Mood
I was invited to Sir Charles today to check out their new menu. I started with a PB banana smoothie which had quite a cacao taste to it. We chose to try the French toast, coconut panna cotta and beef short ribs.

The strawberry and coconut French toast was a very uniquely presented dish that resembled a jam roll. This was accompanied by chocolate ganache, pistachio cream and lemon curd. Very interesting elements that worked cohesively together and I enjoyed the soft texture of the chocolate. I also applaud the creativity of the dish.

The panna cotta had quite a desiccated texture to it owing to the coconut and wasn’t the smooth texture I tend to expect with a dish of this nature. I really enjoyed the feijoa purée however. Once again very different and some real thinking outside the box here with these flavour combinations. I adored the freshness of the green apple sorbet and there were plenty of textures to keep it interesting including a lovely light apple jelly and some compressed melon.

The beef rib was our final dish. I had expected more punchy flavours from the tamari and ginger glaze and think it would have been elevated by a bit more seasoning although it was certainly an impressively presented dish much like all the others. Great new menu

Original review
I was excited to be invited to Sir Charles as I’d been trying to visit since last year. The space is absolutely amazing with lots of fresh flowers, greenery and pops of graffiti peeking through the window from the Fitzroy streets. There’s also a AU79 coffee roasting section which you may be lucky enough to see in action.

We ordered a coffee and a green smoothie and awaited our food. My healthy plus 1 chose to make her own breakfast (eggs your way with a side of spinach and kale) while I went to town with the smash, adding a side of house cured ocean trout and also opting for the waffle sandwich for good measure. The smash was a bit of a unique rendition of this brunch classic with the inclusion of crispy cauliflower and was very tasty.

The house made peanut butter choc chip ice cream inside the waffle was a revelation. They should sell it by the tub. This one is a really exciting dish and a must order. After all if you’re sharing it as a third dish it’s only half the calories.

There’s plenty of variety on the menu with something to suit everyone and they often mix up the dishes to keep it interesting for everyone so there will always be something new to try. They are also rather famous for their Benedict so plenty of options for next time

Worth going for the Benny selection with roti bread and sriracha hollandaise. About as unique as you can get! A really nice sun filled venue with great staff and a buzz about the place. Go early on weekend.

Nice service, every bit of food we were served was totally yum! I m gonna visit again for sure. Felt freshly cooked and on top quality. I ate so much though on a negative side.

Such a pleasant atmosphere. Definitely sits there amongst my few favourite brunching spots in Melbourne. Actually, one of the best smashed avocado and toast I’ve had in a while! Absolutely love the updated Spring menu, such great dishes to sit and enjoy within this glorious cafe.

Sir Charles Fitzroy
I visited Sir Charles this morning and it was absolutely fantastic! Firstly the light, open interior is really welcoming.
We absolutely spoilt ourselves and ordered the Beef Brisket burger with chips, the Eggs Benny, the Stracciatella and the Smoothie bowl special! They were all fantastic with the Stracciatella and the Eggs Benny being the two standouts. I highly highly recommend you order these dishes. They both offer something different and unique in the Melbourne brunch scene.
The Stracciatella dish is kind of like a fancy bruschetta with the cheese offering a fresh light flavour. The perfectly toasted sourdough and the olive oil give it that real Mediterranean feel. Loved it!
The eggs on the Benny dish are Panko crumbed and they’re served on roti bread with bacon and a sriracha hollandaise. What a winner!
Thanks for having us!

Lovely brunch here. Really great service abounds. Friendly, efficient and attentive. Beautiful coffee by two cups as well. Absolutely superb Bloody Mary too. Exactly how they should be made with just the right amount of spice. I was in the mood for something healthy and had the Breakfast Greens today with poached eggs. So as not to be excessively healthy, I added bacon as well. It was a fine dish. Tasty and well presented. I forgot to mention the space here which is very nice. Modern, stylish and well appointed. Love the fact that it’s not too squeezy as well so you don’t feel your neighbour is part of your dining party.

Love the vibes of this cafe - bright and spacious with good service. The breakfast options are also interesting...my personal favourite would be the Salmon Benedict. The sriracha sauce gives it the tangy spiciness that just adds to the flavour of the whole dish without overwhelming it...& the panko-crumbed poached egg was perfectly done. We also had the French Toast...that was interesting but the coconut and strawberry bits in the rolled toast itself got a bit too rich for me. The mushroom risotto was another favourite. Beautifully done.

Sir Charles is a large, spacious cafe located along Johnston Street Fitzroy that is good for groups of all sizes. Although Fitzroy is home to an abundance of cafes, Sir Charles is a standout and one that I keep returning to.

On this visit we ordered the smashed avo with a side of bacon and the french toast. Although these dishes are standard fare for most Melbourne cafes, these dishes are elevated at Sir Charles with a unique twist. For drinks we had a chai latte and tea.

The coconut and strawberry French toast looked like a lamington. This beautifully presented dish served with chocolate ganache, lemon curd, fresh strawberries & pistachio cream is perfect for the sweet tooth. The fresh strawberries helped balance the sweetness of the dish.

My sister had the smashed avo. She loved that the dish was heightened with the addition of spiced peanut dukkah and cauliflower popcorn bites providing both flavour and texture.

Overall I rate Sir Charles 4.5 ⭐️ out of 5. I was really impressed with the new spring menu and I recommend that you check them out. Thanks so much for having me, Sir Charles.

I came here after reading the previous reviews written one week ago about the amazing yoghurt smoothie bowl. I asked the waitress about it today and she said that it wasn’t available anymore which is a pity. It was on special for one week only… But I do suggest the cafe rethink to put a good dish that’s had great reviews back on the menu like because then that way, they can earn some returning customers. Anyway, we ended up ordering the smashed avocado and pannacotta. Service was slow (about a 25 minute wait on the food - Monday 11:30 am). It wasn’t really busy as there were a lot of empty tables. Still, staff are friendly and the atmosphere is spacious, clean and modern with lots of greenery spread about the place.
Back to reviewing on the food: The smashed avo was interesting… while it’s inventive to have the classic breakfast dish infused with Indian spices, we found that it wasn’t something that blended well together. (The deep-fried cauliflower was nice though) Portion size was also generous consider the price was $18 and included poached eggs. Meanwhile, the $16 pannocotta was tasty with lots of textures and flavours but the portion size was relatively small. Drinks-wise: The tumeric latte with almond milk ($5) was smooth with a hint of sweetness. The cappuccino was on the bitter side.

Stunningly gorgeous cafe at the busy Johnston St/Brunswick Rd intersection. It’s absolutely huge inside which you don’t expect from the deceptively low key front door. Would be perfect for large groups especially as the menu has many vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options to cater to dietary requirements.

I had the seasonal special Coconut Yogurt Smoothie Bowl ($15) which was plated like an absolute work of art!! Fresh, tart and tasty I loved the rich berry compote, fresh raspberries, strawberries and mango, delicate meringue pieces and the unexpected fruit roll ups.

With so many delicious options on the menu, I’ll definitely be returning!

We were very lucky to have picked such a lovely spring day to visit Sir Charles in Fitzroy. We arrived quite early for brunch at 9:30 and the cafe had plenty of sun soaked zones that added to the greenery to make the interior shine. The framed window into the kitchen let us all see what’s cooking and some seriously delicious looking brownies and slices in the main counter for those grabbing a coffee on the go to consider.

today we ordered the breakfast greens, which was a bowl with kale spinach, snow pea Chinese broccoli with spiced almonds, seeds and pumpkin hummus with poached egg. This delightful combination of wilted and crunchy greens was not lacking in flavour, the spiced hummus and spiced almonds with the freshly squeezed lemon added a lovely mix of sweet & sour to each mouthful. The flavours matched perfectly with the crunch of the greens and the yolk of the poached egg.

We also ordered the Sir Charles Benedict which was perhaps the most reinvented benny we have had in some time. This dish bought my tastebuds out to dance, the sriracha hollandaise paired with the most perfect Panko crusted son in law egg was served on top of delicious bacon and the most flakey roti. This dish is faultless and simply to die for. Now I know why it is offered on the menu with different options, bacon or salmon or vego, nobody wants to miss out on this!

Lastly and this was actually a surprise dish from the kitchen. We got to try the breakfast special for our “brunch dessert”. The coconut yoghurt smoothie bowl. OMG this was not only super pretty to look at, it was a very cleverly executed dish. With the super chilled coconut yogurt, fresh mango for an extra smack of flavour, to the delightful berry compote and meringue. The genius of this dish was the meringue, this was a savoury component on the plate and stopped it from being too sweet. Not to mention the hibiscus flower I found in the compote, I feel like I struck gold, I’m was in awe and do hope this migrates to the permanent menu in time for summer.

To drink we tried the P&B Banana smoothie, this drink was delicious, not too chocolatey, not too sweet, and a good balance of peanut to banana to cacao, moorish and oh so filling.

Standards are lifting so high these days that it’s hard to fault anything about today’s meal.

Thanks so much for inviting us in.

Highly recommend, by far my favourite brunch spot! We had the Sir Charles Benedict and Salmon Benedict they were both so tasty. Did not have to wait for a table and it was not too crowded! Must try!

I love this place and think it is one of the best cafes in the area. Few things that they do so well - the staff are super friendly, they keep my favorites on the menu all year round (Sir Charles Benedict and Salmon Benedict featured below - super tasty and original) and you never have to wait too long for a table due to its space! Definitely recommend.

Normally, I don't bother to write reviews after a bad experience but after all the hype and the comments from other customers... Sir Charles is not worth the hype.

Pretty average. Came after the rush when the crowd was dying down. Ordered drinks when we sat down but those drinks weren't keyed into the system. Had to ask for them to check on our drinks 20 minutes later. Ordered a side of chips which were also not written down.

Ordered the steak sandwich but the sandwich was so oily from the excessive butter. The bread wasn't even toasted properly. The bread was still soft and not crispy.

Instagram worthy but definitely not worth the hassle of finding a park to visit this place.

Fitzroy – one of the trendiest suburbs in Melbourne and home to an eclectic spread of some of Melbourne’s top cult culinary destinations. It’s no wonder for Sir Charles really rises to the occasion to make a name for itself in Melbourne. The cafe epitomises Asian fusion brunch – when done well, this is by far one of the most impressive Melbourne brunch styles. With a spacey interior, dotted by hanging plants and a wooden design, Sir Charles has really left an impression in my mind and I wouldn’t hesitate going back to.

We were able to book the private room for 8 people on a Monday for a business lunch which was great! We did pre order however it still took 30mins for our meals to arrive. I asked for smashed avo on the side and was given 1/2 a cut avo which is my pet hate. The kitchen happily swapped it out for me when I sent my dish back. Everyone’s meals were delicious and great serving sizes. Coffee was good too!

Probably the best breakfast place I’ve tried. I sometimes wonder what the hype is all about with the Melbourne breakfast scene but this place justifies it. Try the roti bread Benedict.

Would I return? I do frequently in my dreams!

Sir Charles is another fantastic cafe in Fitzroy that is definitely worth a visit. First of all, the minimalist interior with plenty of lush greenery is really soothing! The open windows allow for heaps of natural sunlight to come in which is also nice. It is a large cafe with many different seating options even a private space. I dined mid morning on a Sunday and only waited a couple of minutes to be seated which I consider to be amazing for such a popular cafe at this time.

We ordered the Sir Charles Benedict and Salmon Benedict. If you are a Egg Benny lover you must come here are try their versions. They both come with Panko crumbed eggs, Sriracha hollandaise on Roti. Yes, thats right. Roti! A twist that was a surprise but so tasty. The meals were beautifully presented, check out my photos, but most important well balanced, tasty and filling. The long black and almond lattes were also good. If Egg Benny isnt your thing, dont worry, they have a varying menu with something for everyone including alcohol and some great lunch options making this cafe great for any occasion on any day at any time.

Service? Prompt and very polite with a smile.

Wrap up: A great top option in the area for all occasions and if your a Egg Benny lover!

Mind blowing! This place knows what to do when it comes to brunch! Absolutely amazing taste! The roti with egg plus bacon is the most unbelievable combination together! Will be back for more.

4.5
Another GOOD brunch spot in Fitzroy. Their salmon Benedict ( egg, salmon and roti) was soooo nice. Very good food & service. Will be return again. 这家的brunch很好吃,点的三种菜都没踩雷...咖啡味道还不错.. 抹茶拿铁就很一般啦..

Five stars for Sir Charles, for the amazing tower of hotcakes that cheered me up so fabtastically after night shifts!! !

Sweet confectionary yet not cloyingly so, and a delicious hot chocolate to go with it!

Food and coffee were absolutely superb. Had the cafe's interpretation of salmon benedict. The panko eggs were cooked to perfection. Not many places I know do almond latte the way I like it but this place hits the spot. Would definitely come back.

It’s trendy cafe. I like the fried eggs and the wrap. The eggs has been fried just right. But the burger was just so so. The chips were quite standard as well, too soft.

Had the wonderful opportunity to dine at this gorgeous cafe today! First of all, I really love the minimalistic interior with plenty of lush greenery! 🌵 The open windows allowed for heaps of natural sunlight to come in! ☀️ We ordered the dishes off their new winter menu & everything looked beautiful & it was truly such a dream spread! 💭 The plating was sophisticated & the pops of colour translated beautifully in the pictures! 👌🏻 I cannot remeber exactly what we ordered because there were just too many dishes! The side dishes were finger licking good and packed with so much flavour! 😋 What I am certain of though is that every dish was tasty in its own way and very well balanced! The savoury dishes had a surprise citrusy 🍋 element, while the creamy dishes had a few crunchy elements! 😍 For the drinks we ordered latte, matcha latte & three smoothies 🍹 all of which went very well with the dishes! An added bonus were the super friendly staff 😌 that made the dining experience so enjoyable!

We visited Sir Charles for a mid-week lunch. Upon walking through the door, we were warmly greeted, and directed to our table. The waiter suggested we try the new special of Fried Chicken Wings with a side of chilli slaw to share. This plate was a nice pile of Sweet sticky coated chicken wings .......yummo! This dish would go nicely with an ice cold glass of beer.....or 3!

We also ordered the Szechuan Pork Belly burger which arrived with a nice side of chips in a wire basket. The pieces of crackling in the burger was a nice touch.

The last dish we chose to share was a raspberry hotcake called “Berry Good Time”. A pretty and colourful dish with great flavours. We loved the raspberry purée. A good pairing with pour over Black Coffee, and a new addition to the menu of Baileys Hot Chocolate.

The service and food were great, and the coffee is always spot on. We’ll be visiting again.

We thank Sir Charles for having us. We experienced Sir Charles as guests, and all of our opinions are genuine and are based on our experience at the time of our visit.
