The noodles are chewy, soup is not too salty, pork melts in your mouth, oyster mushroom has a tasty buttery taste - basically the whole bowl ramen is amazingly delicious and easily one of the best ramen I've ever tried. I hope that the portion is bigger though, but I'll definitely come back again! 😋

Best ramen I’ve ever tried!!! Tastes very clean and healthy, not as greasy and fatty as from other ramen places and still full of flavour. Broth tastes very complex and good proportion of meat and veggies. Pork belly is a thick cut meat.

😍Pork belly ramen
🤤Pork belly bun
😍Chilli bomb

📌Highly recommend getting the Pork belly ramen and adding a chilli bomb into the broth.

On a wet rainy Monday evening, our plans changed suddenly when majority of friends cancelled last minute due to the weather. So my 2 remaining friends and I still decided to meet up but not in the city.  They suggested to have ramen which I was all for it. My first time visiting Shop Ramen and I was quite impressed with the food quality.

🔆LOCATION🔆

Shop Ramen is situated on Smith Street near the corner of Johnston. Easily reached by tram or bus if taking public transport. The premise is very small and fits about 26 people at maximum capacity.

There is a large long communal table in the middle, with 3 small tables against the wall and a round table near the front that can seat 4 people and against the register counter there are a few seats there too.

The interior is very basic with light green tiles against one wall and the opposite wall is piled high with boxes of Japanese beer and other beverages.

🔆SERVICE🔆

The service was very chilled and relaxed, it matches the vibe of Shop Ramen.
I wouldnt say it is traditional ramen this place serves but has a modern twist.

🔆MENU/PRICE🔆
The Shop Ramen menu is simple with main feature clearly being ramen, but they also have rice bowls, cold noodles and buns.

Note: Home-made ramen noodles with free range chicken broth

We ordered:

Pork Belly, $17.50
(Shoyu ramen with nori, spring onion, marinated egg, king oyster mushrooms, Chinese broccoli)

BBQ Chicken, $17.50
(Miso ramen with organic red & white miso, burnt cabbage, red onion, buttered corn, marinated egg, peashoots)

Organic Tofu, $17.00(
Creamy vegetable ramen with tofu, sesame, kale, pickled shiitake mushrooms, peashoots, edamame and marinated egg)

Housemade Yuzu soda & lime, $7.00

Yuzu Sipper, $14.00
(yuzu shu, yuzhu jice, soda, dried orange)

🔆VERDICT🔆

Shop Ramen serves their food with a fusion modern twist. My Pork Belly Ramen came with Chinese broccoli which is an odd combination but it works! The pork belly was lightly chargrilled and was very meaty and tender! Yum!! The Shoyu soup was strong in flavour but not overpowering. The ramen noodles were chewy and slightly firm, really good texture. Overall I was quite impressed with my dish.

My friend who is a vegetarian (and was the one who suggested to dine here) always order the Organic Tofu ramen and he absolutely loves it.

Our other friend who had the BBQ Chicken polished his food so fast and drank all the miso based soup as well. Needless to say, he enjoyed it alot too!

If you visit Shop Ramen, come with the expectation that its not traditional Japanese ramen and you will maybe pleasantly surprised.

Noodles are fabulous and firm, ramen broth is rich and has plenty of flavour. Portions are decent, not overly large though. Dessert was matcha and black sesame icecream cake - delicious!

I loved shop ramen! It is such a cute place. It’s prices are so reasonable for the quality of food that you are getting there. The service was prompt and friendly. We had two different types of ramen with a pork bun as an entré and I could not recommend it enough! I had the pork ramen and it was simply delicious. A must when on smith street.

Super tasty ramen! The chewy noodles and clean but flavoursome broth were a stand out, but the pork meat was freaking amazing. So tender, smoky and gelatinous. I could eat this every day. Service was fast and friendly too.

One of the best spots around for vegan ramen. The broth is super creamy thanks to sesame, and features a punch of sourness thanks to marinated mushrooms. The space is small so there's often a wait, but it's worth it.

It doesn’t get any better than sitting down to a delicious steaming hot bowl of ramen!

This little establishment was small, intimate & authentic!

Ramen is one of my FAVOURITE foods believe it or not! I loved this broth is was full of flavour and coated the noodles so beautifully! The corn was a beautiful sweet of flavour, oozing yolk and well cooked pork! Yum

One of the best ramen places around Fitzroy if not in Melbourne. While they don't exactly do traditional Japanese ramen (e.g. kimchi found in tantan men), I would come here any day than a typical big name franchise ramen shop. The chicken broth is amazing and the texture of the men (i.e. noodle) is fantastic. You can also get different baos and alcohols and your order is served promptly. The place is not that big and gets full rather quickly, so expect some waiting time before being seated. The only possible improvement I'd suggest to the management is to provide some complimentary pickles to complement the ramen.

Holy Moly. It was a place of dreams even when I first heard about it. **Paging Dr. Phil** I’ve found my new crack-cocaine!!!
Seriously, do I deserve this?! To be fair dinkum the ramen at this joint is far better than the lame oily crap. And it’s located smack-bang on Smith Street. Can I say yum one more time!?!? I’m gonna, I’m gonna say yuuuuum!!!!!!!’

One of the best Ramen places in Melbourne, in my opinion. Broth richness was just right and both the vegetables and protein were super flavourful. A definite recommend!

Nice little ramen place that serves bao, ramen and a few cold dishes. We ordered the Shoyu, Shio and Tan Tan Men ramen. Although the broth in the Shoyu and Shio was pleasant, the overall taste was quite bland and the quantity of pork belly served was pretty low. The Tan Tan Men had very smooth beef brisket but the taste was a bit overwhelming. Staff were friendly and efficient, meals came out with very little wait time.

Excellent food, service and experience. Had the shoyu ramen and was great value for money. The pork belly cuts was generous, with two large thick cuts coming as standard and you easily get more when compared to the one small piece you get at Hakata Gensuke. Great vibe inside, the service is quick and got my meal about 10 mins after ordering. Great drinks on offer, I highly recommend the Orion beer which in my opinion is Japan’s best commercial beer.

Excellent ramen. Incredibly rich broth, good noodles and some of the best chashu pork I've ever had. I was a bit disappointed when I requested a few Japanese pickles and was told no but otherwise the meal was delicious. The sparse decor and average service are the only things holding this place back from a five star rating.

Came all the way across town to eat this noodly goodness 😋 well worth it, those who rated this a 1 star really are as salty as they claim the broth to be. Delicate taste, good service and really nice whisky. Thanks guys!

Giving it a 5-er for the vibe more than the food. I mean the food was still great though. The optional yuzu oil in the ramen is kinda interesting. Worth experiencing once, but i probs won't do it again.
