Review Thai Thani - Fitzroy

Alex King
I delivered food here Here is my thought while waiting to pick up my order. I challenge you (whom reading this) to give your best answers. How are we expected to love one person at all the time?

Had a wonderful and warm evening of which the highlight was the delicious food, my friend had a delicious looking crispy pork belly (I don't eat pork) and I thoroughly enjoyed my Spicy drunken noodles😌

My second fav place in Melbourne so far for Thai đŸ‘ŒđŸŒâœ…

3.7 Saturday night. Unusual Thai food here and we enjoyed it. Nowhere near as creamy and mushy as Thai can be sometimes. Maybe I don’t get out enough but I’ve not seen the like of a couple of the starters they have here. The Chiang mai sausage is a beauty. There’s seriously good heat in these and they have good deep spicy flavour. We loved this dish. It’s one of the more interesting Thai starters I’ve ever had and the heat stayed with me for a while after the dish had been demolished. By contrast, the crispy fried tofu cake wasn’t anywhere near as satisfying. The tofu had nothing to really lift it. The accompanying taro cake was nice and maybe helped a little. But, there was nothing else and as far as I could tell and the sweet chilli sauce promised on the menu wasn’t evident. Again, I’ve not had anything like the fresh spring roll which is, um, fresh not fried. Interesting flavour and texture here. We liked it the dish. On to the mains then. The Thai Thani green curry was good. The sauce is thinnish not thick and creamy as it can be sometimes. We liked it. The texture of the winter bamboo particularly sparked my interest in this dish which had good kick throughout. The Pad Thai here is a good one as well. A large serving with good flavour. We also liked that the noodles were thinner than usual. The Salmon Choo Chee curry is lovely too. We’ve not seen this in s Thai place before. The salmon was done beautifully and even had the promised crispy skin. The dish had good curry flavour that we enjoyed. The veggies were cooked perfectly too with some residual crispness still evident which we always love. To top things off, the rice was cooked superbly as well. Light and fluffy just as it should be. Service was adorable throughout. There were three young servers always at the ready at the counter to take our order, deliver dishes and drinks and clear everything away. Their efficiency and politeness was fantastic. The only slight downside to the evening was the bloke at the next table who kept looking over at ours. Like, constantly! I found it rather unnerving and started to stare back til he turned away. This was a good meal overall. This Thai food is different to the customary local Melbourne Thai but we liked it. We liked the restaurant itself too. We would happily return.

Not much people during lunch hour, nice atmosphere for having good Thai food.

Small place but amazing service and great food. They were short staff when we went but still provided great service. Food was delicious. Will go there again.

Just ordered a Pad Thai that is arguably one of the worst I have ever had. No meat in the dish, only dried tofu, and plenty of tasteless noodle. Very disappointing and would not recommend.

Food is amazing. True authentic Thai flavours. Best in Melbourne. Friendly staff and great Service. BYO a plus.

Best Thai food on Brunswick St Fitzroy! Family run restaurant - Jamie makes every visit a highlight!

Gr8 food.....ifffy(!) service........ . ....... . ....

Ordered vegetarian pad kee mao + crispy pork with chinese broccoli. Both portion was decent, with a lot of toppings. To be honest my pad kee mao probably had more veg than noodles 😂. And it was a bit too oily. In the meantime, rispy pork dish was nice and flavorful, with big cuts of meat.

Best Thai I have eaten in Melbourne. Period.

The food was not bad but they used Zomato Gold saying that 1 food and 1 free.
We went there and at the time of payment they said it is for our special menue only.
They use all different methods to bring you to the store and over charge you.
I reported them to zomato as well.

We ordered a few dishes from the dinner menu including:⠀
🍣King Fish Sashimi Ceviche⠀
🍖Caramelised Pork Hock (New)⠀
🍝Spaghetti Pad Kee Mao⠀
🍜Thai Slow Cooked Beef Noodles⠀
đŸ„˜Thai Thani Massaman Curry⠀
đŸ„Mango Sticky Rice⠀
🍾Strawberry Kaffir Cocktail⠀
đŸ„„Fresh Coconut Water⠀

Loved every single dish. The king fish sashimi was so fresh. The caramelised pork hock was tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. The spaghetti pad kee mao was a little too spicy for me but the taste was amazing.

The broth of the beef noodles was so rich and the beef were so tender. The flavours of the curry was amazing straight from the first bite, I could eat so much of these.

The space inside the restaurant was amazing, there are so many sitting areas and the interior is brightly lit. Definitely would recommend to come visit if you’re looking for a place to dine in Docklands.

We came here for dinner and loved everything! We started off with the kingfish which was cured in a delicious fish sauce dressing
For mains we got the flat noodles ( char sew ew), massman lamb curry and grilled beef; the grilled beef was cooked medium rare and the curry was cooked so well the lamb was falling off the bone!
For dessert we finished the meal off with mango sticky rice and ice cream- the mango sticky rice is made with black rice for more texture and it was so so good!
Thanks for having us in!

3.5
Read the most recent reviews saying this was a venue that flat out denied Zomato Gold but I checked upon entry and they said it was all good to use. We had a fish dish with a light curry (that I can’t find on the Zomato menu). The piece of fish was really quite small (not sure if that’s because we were using Gold), but it was tasty enough and had a nice amount of spice. We also had the prawn stir fry with cashew nuts and it was sweet and had a nice amount of sauce. Overall, a nice Thai meal!

Having enjoyed a fantastic meal at Thai Thani in Docklands, I was intrigued to try the original in Fitzroy. Whilst the new venue has a gorgeous, large and modern space; the Fitzroy version is a lot smaller, and instead specialises in a more home style of food and ambience. There is a gorgeous mural on the wall, and the atmosphere is bustling and friendly.

We picked a great selection from the menu, with a bunch of starters and a few mains. Everything was delicious and full of spice and flavour. Fresh spring rolls were crispy and so fresh, and the accompanying dipping sauce was sweet and spicy. The shredded omelette on top was a fabulous touch. Fried tofu was creamy and delicious and also came with a delicious sauce. The prawn and pork cakes were amazing, with a crispy exterior and flavousome centre.

I loved the crispy pork belly main, as it came with loads of fresh veg, lots of spice, and the pork was crispy but still tender. A standout dish for sure. For something different, we went with a salmon curry as our second main. The salmon had perfectly crispy skin, and the fish itself flaked apart beautifully. The curry sauce had lots of complex flavours, and a real kick, which I loved.

Service was on point, and nothibg was too much trouble. It was busy and full, but the staff still managed to stay on top of things. I think the original Thai Thani is completely different to it's new sister restaurant, but it still has lots of character and an amazing menu, and is great for that authentic Thai experience.

Both the food and ambience were great here. Reasonable prices as well - the pad see ew I ordered had so much meat!

Came here expecting to use zomato gold, but they say they have contacted zomato to be removed from zomato gold partner. I find it hard to believe, as being in zomato gold create traffic for them. Food was good, price is okay but the portions are a bit small
Daviddong
Unacceptable!
Advertised as accepting Zomato Gold, but the restaurant was bad at service when I unlocked and spent a bunch of time to travel there to eat and then the staff refused it.
In fact, the food is not really good compared to other Thai restaurant that I used to be.
I wasted time and money here
Michelle
Listed as a participated restaurant for Zomato Gold but refused the deal without any reason. Extremely disappointed with this.

Food is average. Will not come back or recommend this place to anyone.
Ross Clark
NOT ACCEPTING ZOMATO GOLD

i am simply posting this here for the benefit of other zomato users so nobody else overpays for their zomato gold meal.

they are still being listed on the app as a zomato gold partner, however are not honouring the deal.

there was nothing wrong with the food! i will revise the star rating once this issue is resolved between zomato and the restaurant.
Thats My Food
I was craving for some authentic Thai flavors for quite some time and Thai Thani put all the craving to rest. I went in there on a Sunday evening when it was not very busy. The atmosphere in the restaurant is pretty chill and modern. They are a part of Zomato gold so that is a plus always. :D

I ordered a Tom Yum soup, a curry dish with lamb in it and coconut rice. First I would like to point out that the menu shown on Zomato is a different one than the one that you get in the restaurant, they need to update this one I think.

The Tom yum soup was just mind Blowing. The flavors in there were spot on. They were perfectly balanced and took the soup a whole new level. I was really really impressed with it. I got chicken in my soup which was cooked nicely. It was tender and soft. But I thought that the quantity of soup was very less. I ordered it with Zomato gold so I got it complimentary but still I think the quantity of the Soup could have been better given the price. I would definitely say that there will not be many places in Melbourne that will be preparing Tom Yum soup of the level that is being prepared at this restaurant.
Curry and rice were also a very nice combination. Coconut rice was a little sweet which complimented the spicy flavor of the curry very nicely. Curry was cooked in green pepper which was served on the plate and I thought was a very nice addition.

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to try the flavors of Thailand.

Not the best. Maybe cause it’s a fusion so it doesn’t taste authentic. The drunken noodle doesn’t taste like what the name implies. There wasn’t any alcohol to it. Pad Thai was wet and really just average. Most probably will not come back again
The Casual Diner
Will come back for:
+ Tom yum soup
+ Drunken noodles
+ Thai chilly basil beef

A great little eatery serving some pretty good and authentic street Thai food. Dishes were all well spiced with loads of fresh ingredients. I particularly enjoyed the Tom yum soup which had lots of seafood plus different types of mushrooms that really add a great textural element to the dish. The Thai chilli basil beef was tasty and delicious (particularly eaten with the coconut rice). And the drunken noodles was spicy and moorish. I found the prawn and crab cakes a little stodgy though. Service was quick and friendly, and the decor is typically arty and funky in this stretch of Fitzroy. Prices were also reasonable for what you get. Will definitely be back!

On a cold winters day we were craving curries. We both ordered massaman curries with coconut rice to share. The curries were generous, hearty portions. Came with a potato croquet balanced on top of the dish, which was a pleasant surprise. Beef could have been a touch more tender. But overall enjoyable (7/10)

Friendly service with a smile.

This is my favourite Thai place in Melbourne. I have eaten in here and ordered Uber eats lots of times, and have only ever experienced great quality food. I always order the crispy tofu and pork belly, both of which never disappoint.

Rated 4.5
Hubby recently worked on Thai Thani in Camberwell and conveniently we were near Fitzroy recently so we had to drop by their first store on Brunswick St. Est in 1986, I cannot say no to a good Hawker Thai style lunch. Lovely day so we sat outside with Kiba our puppy, the waitress even gave him a container of water
. thanks!!!

We both started off with the Thai Milk Tea which you definitely can’t go wrong
.

The massaman brisket curry with potato, corn, beans and rich spices looked absolutely gorgeous when it came out. Smelt beautiful and tasted even better! The beef was so soft and tender and the spices was just perfect.

Pattaya Beach Grilled Chicken – these marinated grilled chicken with thai herbs spice was absolutely tasty. Chicken was extra moist and serving was generous. so perfect that you almost didn’t need the sweet sauce next to it!

Overall a very delicious meal. Of-course we paired the mains with coconut rice which was on the watery side but still went well with both dishes Mmmmm..

“Short of screaming-hot Thai food, everything can be suitable for kids too.” – Guy Fieri

Suey Luey XOX

Awesome food, nice casual atmosphere. Perfect first dinner date or lunch with friends. The pork belly stir fry was the best. Good satay chicken too. Will definitely be back.

Just found this little gem in Firzroy. Cosy inferor and friendly customer services.
The pad thai was on point and curry was delicious.
Definitely come back again for another dishes.

Such a handy location. Must try their grilled platter. Very generous portions. Their cocktails were very good and go well with the food. Reminds me of being on holiday

Great food and friendly service. A family run business with recipes that span generations. Not sure why this place isn’t more packed. Great location also. Id recommend the meat platter or massaman curry, and if you’re not drinking, try the mocktails!

Really quite bizarre and rude service.
We went in just a bit after 5.30, we were the only customers in the place, so plenty of seating for anyone else that may have come in.
I didn't like sitting facing the wall so thought I'd change positions so I'm facing out with my back to the wall next to my girlfriend.
The waitress took real issue with this, made quite a fuss over it. She said if it gets busy I'm going to have to move back.
Overall just an unpleasant experience and really unneccessary rude service.
Can't fault the food though, very nice and tasty.
Just a shame I won't be going back to have it again.

When I decided to hav Thai food I came across this restaurant in EatClub and wanted to give a try. This place has got a simple decor & compact space. We were 3, out for late lunch. The menu is simple with options. We went for chicken stir fry with rice, pad Thai, pineapple rice... Of all the 3 dish we enjoyed pineapple rice most, stir fry with chicken was good jus that sauce was not sufficient for the rice quantity. Somehow all 3 of us felt not good about the pad Thai bcos of too much fishy aroma . The quantity was comparatively less for the price. The flavours were rich and fresh. I would love to see more friendly staffs while serving. The first waitress who took order was not friendly but then waitress who assisted end of the meal had a smile also friendly.

Walked off the street for this, no expectations. I bought the Slow cooked pork ribs red curry. The curry and flavours were 5/5, the meat was 4/5 due to it being slightly dry however I highly recommend this place.
Michael J. Kyle
Very friendly service and a few good paleo options. I had the stir fry with chicken medium spicy no rice and it was solid. Great value for the price. And it was super quick and easy on a night I didn’t know what I want. Imagine they are great for a takeaway or delivery option too.

Went here when we were actually on the way to Tora Dumplings next door, but that was shut on a Tuesday so chose to go to Thai Thani instead. I thought it was new, but reading from the reviews it has been around for a long time but is just under new management. Pretty sure that the interior changes recently. It looks nice, fresh and open. Service is friendly. Food was ok. I had the prawn pad Thai.
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
Thai Thani is now under new management. It’s a phrase that often causes apprehension, but in this case it’s certainly not a bad thing. The husband and wife team previously started Pok Pok and Pok Pok Jr, running them successfully for 6 years before selling them, and breathing new life into Thai Thani instead. They’ve retained the name of the previous establishment, which has been running since 1986, but refurbished the restaurant and completely refreshed the menu.
Spartacus
This is one very under rated little gem. A friend and I walked in randomly one time as we were starving and couldn't be bothered to pick a place. To our surprise, this humble looking little restaurant happened to be one of the best modern Thai restaurants I ever had!

The price is quite fair, ambient and decor are average, but rather comfortable and homey. Great selection of items on the menu, and the prep time was supremely speedy. Modern fusion Thai dishes were on point and full of explosive flavors!

Keep up the good work guys, I'm going to be a regular!
Iris Myandowski
I'm not horrified by this but neither am I terribly impressed. It was a consolation prize after everywhere I wanted to eat being closed. I wanted something spicy and that was delivered. That Hillbilly cider sure is good so good choices with the drink selection.
Brunchtime
Came here with a group of 7, tried a variety of dishes. The highlight was definitely the massaman curry, would avoid the Thai green chicken curry next time (the chicken Thai was quite fatty and the curry sauce was very thin). We tried some vegetarian flat noodles which were super tasty and better than the chicken pad Thai. Fast service and nice decor.

We went looking for somewhere warm on a cold day. This place did not disappoint. It was warm and inviting. It was clean and affordable. We had the pork belly and chicken cashew. Both were excellent with just enough spice to draw out all the flavours. I've been a few times since and find it mostly consistent. The service is good, although there have been times when it's slow that the girls seem more interested in their iPhones than their job. I've had the coffee a couple of times as well. I'd say it's 3/5 but for me doesn't go with the style of food at all. The jasmine tea we found was very overpowering and at $4 a little on the pricey side.
Alayna Sendijins
The food here is delicious; perfect flavors and I love how they make it perfectly spicy when I asked them too (some restaurants either make it unbearably spicy or does nothing at all) so yay. However, the portions are just ridiculously small for the prices. So many people I've spoken to who have been here are delighted by the food but are not keen on returning due to the portion size.
MY NAmE IS Lee
Went to Thai Thani for lunch today. I ordered the stir fried crispy pork belly and my bf ordered the braised pork hock. Overall the meals quite yummy, but the service was not the best. The waitress in there looked grumpy and not very welcoming as we were the first couple customers to visit of the day .😓 We would not be happy to go back somewhere have this kind of service.
The City Lane
Thai Thani has been operating on Brunswick Street since 1986. While the name may not be new, the food has undergone a recent revitalization and we were invited to taste the results.
Nibble And Wander
This place is so underrated! It was amazing. Thai Thani, small venue with two floors with a wide-variety menu. Staff are super friendly and attentive. Food was absolutely delicious, you get authentic Thai flavours and it's priced too decently for what you receive. Usually when I eat Thai food it's either too sweet, too salty or too acidic but Thai Thani's is balanced so well. Each dish is packed with flavour either with dressing, sauces or complimentary sides. I loved every dish and I can't wait to come back with my family!
Gastrology
It is a Friday night on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy and Thai Thani is bustling and vibrant. Melbourne is filled with Thai restaurants but Thai Thani manages to stand out from the crowd. The decor is modern and relaxed, with grey, white and wooden hues dominating the colour scheme. . We loved tasting our way through their new winter menu. To start, the tofu and taro wraps were a winner. Think crispy tofu skin encasing melt in your mouth morsels of taro and tofu which go down a treat with the accompanying sweet chilli peanut sauce.
Peach-Water
If there was one cuisine I had to eat for the rest of my life, it would most likely be Thai food. I crave Thai food on a regular basis and always on the search for new Thai places. Recently I had the pleasure of visiting Thai Thani located on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, where I was able to sample some of the most authentic Thai dishes that were inspired by the owner’s/head chef’s childhood.

Don't know why review below are all so bad?
Food tasted and ingredients are ok and good here, at least my pork rib dish was good to me.
portion are right for the price,
unless you just want really cheap food then seek elsewhere.

I just ordered off of ubereats the Grilled Fish Filet Hiramasa and pad thai. The fish was $22 and we paid for rice in addition. What little flavour there was, was nice but the portion was very small (about the size of two small spring rolls) and there was no sauce despite being cooked in 'curry sauce'. The fish was very dry and tasted fishy. The pad thai was completely bland, it was basically noodles and bean sprouts with a lime wedge on the side...I wouldn't order from here again.
Mostly Asian
Yes the service was fast but the message were all Luke warm and the chicken merely balls of fat.
My friend had the green curry. Small, bland and expensive considering rice was extra.
I had the garlic and pepper chicken stir fry.
I got three slices of carrot, three chunks of cucumber as well a a couple buts of broccoli.
Thankful for that measly amount as the garlic covered oil smothered chicken was so too fatty to bother with.
Careful, they charge $1 for a take home plastic tub.
Won't be back, rip off.

This foodie destination was once one of the top Thai restaurants in Melbourne. It changed hands about a year ago, as the owner confirmed tonight, and, I lament, the magic has gone.

This evening, as well as a few weeks ago, I requested stir fry Chicken with Cashew Nuts, which, per the current and old menu was: 'Chicken with water chestnut, onion, cashew nuts, carrot & dried chilli'. My favourite dish for the past 25 years. Tonight however, the dish was served with copious volumes of broccoli and capsicum. This has completely altered the compelling palate that I'm accustomed to and which was advertised on the menu.

I raised this with the owner who told me there is in Brunswick Street an expectation of dishes featuring more vegetables. Whilst appreciating this, I asked if I would be allowed to enjoy the old recipe that does not contain broccoli and capsicum. I was told "no, you cannot have that". Despite that the advertised dish on the menu does not feature broccoli or capsicum. I was somewhat incredulous. Even odder was, I was the only person dining in tonight (a Saturday night no less).

Perhaps not important if you're some person off the street who just wants a wholesome meal. However the slight becomes more important when you've been a supporter of the gig for 25 years, and have the quite reasonable expectation that you might be served the dish you actually requested from the menu.

1 star (plus an extra star as the food was fresh). But if you're actually looking for a Thai meal with both nuance and reliability, try somewhere like Jinda Thai. The prices are similar but the dining experience a world apart.

I loathe to say that, after patronage of 25 years, and numerous referrals to the joint from the hotel I operate, I shan't be returning or recommending it.
Disappointing; we wouldn't eat from here again.
Spring rolls & Drunken noodles (chicken). The noodles seemed dull, the spring rolls even worse.
Tom Bettles
Ordered via Uber Eats and was extremely disappointed! Both our noodle dishes were bland and the beef one came with no beef in. We had to leave the chicken satay as the chicken was not cooked, although the satay sauce was tasty. Won't be ordering here again. :-(
N
Ordered some dinner through Deliveroo and it was absolute disappointment. Cashew chicken dish had just a few odd pieces of chicken thigh and only like 4 cashew nuts and “Pad Kee Mao” drunk noodles was lacking flavour, meat and sauce. Also size was pretty small for the price.
Liana Lapuz
(Pad thai & fried rice) Terrible food. Was delivered through menulog. When we opened the containers did not have that authentic thai food smell.. Instead a strong scent of old dish rags... The food tasted even worse, we thought that maybe they wiped down the pans with an old rag before cooking. Only ate a few bites, the taste and smell was just too much.. Would not recommend at all
Judene Messi
I reckon this place is too pricey for their serving sizes. Food was alright, wasn't the best and was abit too oily for my liking. Ordered pad Thai and pad see ew
Melbourne Glutton
E-commerce espouses convenience, choice and value. Menulog has been doing a reasonably fine job of upholding these pillars. Despite being confined to my desk most days, I have still been able to sample different cuisines from a number of surrounding suburbs beyond the confines of the CBD. Thai Thani popped onto my radar because it was one of the few restaurants Thai restaurants, located outside the CBD, delivering to the CBD, AND which was already on Zomato. Given the recent spate of restaurant discoveries beyond the trusted embrace of the Zomato community, I was glad to return to the safety of its arms by choosing a restaurant that had been extensively reviewed.
Kimmy_desu
Food was quite authentic and tasty, except for the spring rolls which were frozen supermarket ones and tasted a bit miserable. Liked the tom yum soup, chicken salad (Larp Gai), roti and especially the stir fries (we had Pad Khing and Pad Bai Gapao). Service was a little slow but they were pretty packed for a Friday night so no biggie. I'd come back.
Zoe Garkinis
Been here many times. Love the pad Thai with chicken and vegetarian spring rolls! Tom yum soup also tasty. Always consistent. Their curries are too watery and spicy for me, I prefer them thick. (Red and green, masaman is thicker) the satay chicken skewers aren't the best I've had either but overall compared to other Thai places on Brunswick st this is my go to one. They are also a bit pricey for Thai cuisine in general.
Pam
Slooooowww service, two dishes were forgotten. Average food, fresh and had reasonable flavour - agree with previous review that the curries were too thin.
Jennifer.batcha
Terrible. My partner and I had a terrible evening at the restaurant. When I asked for a specific spot, I was told a cold flat straight 'no'.
The curry came in first and the rice never came. I asked if we could sit upstairs, they said 'no its closed'. Five minutes later a bunch of people were seated upstairs. We left midway, did not wait to be served with the rice because it was never going to come to our table. Never going back.

Great for a Thai place. I love this place when I came a few weeks ago. The service is so good and the food was absolutely thai-tastic!
Jeff
So so. The tom yum was right at the best I've had in Melbourne, in perfect balance. Unfortunately, the starters were from the grocery frozen section -- is it really that hard to buy these from quality food service? -- and the green curry while with nice heat was on the watery side and lackluster. The service was courteous and efficient and for the most part nicely paced, but unfortunately our curry arrived mere moments after our salad. The dining area was cozy and lightly decorated, but the back area is shocking and needs a serious cleaning.
EG
Waited 2 hours. never arrived. no refund!. Ordered via menulog and their customer service was unapologetic as was the restaurant. totally messed up valentines day. waited 2 hours. food never arrived despite continuously telling us it was on the way. did not issue promised refund!
Jlwow
Pretentious and Rude. Ever stepped into a restaurant and wished you hadn't? From the start i knew it won't be a pleasant dining experience when the 'head waiter' took our order with an attitude and then proceeded to verbally abuse his colleagues and threw his hands up in the air few times! Got worse when a poor staff was not familiar with banquet menu and couldn't clarify what we could have for dessert. The head waiter shouted across the room 'let me take care of it', stormed to our table and told us in a voice loud enough for the whole restaurant to hear that we "cannot have ice cream if we are having coffee!" We didn't even want any coffee at the first place!!! Extremely distasteful behaviour. What a terrible mistake to dine there, used to
like this place, I didn't know that the original owner sold the biz 6-mths ago :((

Disgusting.. No vegetables in anything, so oily, the meat was cut so small it was so dry and disgusting!!! so very bad.. pick up your game!

Terrific Thai night. Me and my girlfriend came here on our Valentine. The food was terrific, staffs were friendly and helpful. I had the soft-shell crab, which was absolutely amazing.
For a restaurant of its class, I highly regard Thai Thani on its value and quality. We both got a full stomach, if you're wondering.
Jwgayler
Don't bother. We used to love getting food from Thai Thani (eating in or takeway) but I just can't recommend it any more. Their food used to be great and service excellent, unfortunately though this is no longer the case.

Ordering through Menulog, our food was already slated to take 40 minutes to get to us despite living ~2 km from the restaurant. After an hour and a half and 2 phone calls (with the manager saying both times that the driver had been gone a long time and it should be with us shortly) our food finally arrived at 10pm, cold and inedible. This was one of the most disappointing meals I've had in the last year or so, especially considering the cost.

If you're after great Thai food at an excellent cost and with friendly, reliable service, do yourself a favour and just go to Jinda instead.
K C G
The food was mostly lovely. Initially the service was great - our ordering options were explained and they come back to take our order quickly. We got our entree - the spring rolls and curry puffs were half cold and soggy - like they'd been heated up in the microwave. The beef satay was warm and tender and the sauce delicious. A little after they'd cleared our entree plates we asked for our wine as it hadn't arrived. They brought it over quickly but it was a bit slack that we had to ask. We were never offered any water. The mains came out in good time and were all yum (red beef curry, garlic stir fried veges and pad see ew chicken). We loved the fresh vegetables and the quality of the meat was good. Dessert was good - ice cream. Overall we enjoyed the food for the most part but think the service could improve a little. We will come back though.

Useless. A small serving of ordinary food took far too long to arrive, lukewarm bordering on cold. Overpriced.

Great food, lots of flavour, especially the Tom yum soup, delicious whole snapper, friendly service, would recommend :)

THE BEST. I come here 2 or 3 times per week for a reason!!

I won't waffle on - the food was ordinary, and the service was terrible, at times rude. Won't bother going back!

Lovely food but the service left a lot to be desired. We were left at the door for over 10 minutes without being acknowledged. When we were finally led to a table we were again ignored for a long time before we could order. Our food was delayed while other tables seated after us received their meals. When we finally received our meals the roti was left out and we had to reorder it. It finally arrived after we had all eaten our fill. The food was very nice but I don't think I would return because of the service.

Excellent service! Excellent food! Coconut rice and the yummy sticky rice dessert were our favourites! Highly recommended and would def be coming back for sure!!

Thai Thani is def worth a look. It's not Mozart, but it's worthy of your hard earned with good food & friendly service. Recommended, but manage your expectations closely

Great all round. I went here with a friend on Wednesday night and it was one of the best Thai experiences I have had. We had a banquet for 2 people which was Tom Yum Soup - so tasty, then thai dumplings, spring rolls and calamari salad... If this wasn't enough we then had combination seafood (so fresh and tasty) and chicken green curry! I will be going back for more, the food is fresh, flavoursome and good portion size. Service was amazing and the staff very attentive.

Home delivered banquet was fresh and excellent value for money. Very happy

Authentic Thai. I love the food here, It always hits the mark. It is one of the few authentic Thai tasting restaurants in Melbourne. I love the beef salad and red duck curry, always amazing and they adjust the degree of chilli upon request. The customer service is above average. Special mention to the wine list - there are a couple of gems here. The special lamb cutlets with coconut curry sauce were simply spectacular last night. Highly recommended to all lovers of Thai.

Great service, nice food. We went on an ouffer voucher for $39 for 2 people, 6 courses.

The young waiter was very very attentive and friendly, other staff were also quite friendly and half way through our meal a lovely lady (owner?) came to ask if our meal was ok and we were enjoying it.

Ambience was quite nice if a little closely squished in once tables filled up, nice soft music not annoying or loud.

Overall the food was great.
Lowlights were: Fish cakes were very hot, spring rolls were tasteless but nice sauce. Beef satay skewers were tough and dry, but the sauce was great. Beef with chili and basil was tender but very salty, tasted like a lot of soy sauce on it, we only ate half. None of the mains had any vegies other than onions.

Highlights were: the tom yum soups (and they happily made a non-hot version for my 11 yo daughter) lovely flavour, chicken one had loads of meat, prawn had only 2 prawns. All entrees were beautifully presented with salad around them, very nice. Chicken satay skewers were nice and the sauce was great. Cashew chicken was delicious, tasty with heaps of cashews, best dish of the night.

Plenty of rice provided, we did not finish it and we were both very full when we left.

I would definitely go back. Would like to see more vegies in the mains, or the option to add them if desired.

Dinner on a voucher. We booked for a friday night, and although parking was a nightmare, we had a pleasant experience. The hostess was extremely welcoming, as were all the wait staff. On arrival, we were presented with the 'voucher menu'. Our drinks were great, very attentive. The food was extremely tasty. We were perfectly satiated, not too full, not hungry. The only complaint I would make, if any, was that we were a bit rushed. In and out in an hour. I would definitely go there again.

With a glut of Thai restaurants opening all through out Melbourne fans of Thai cuisine have quite a choice of places to check out. The Swine loves this. Thai Thani is reasonable without being out standing or particularly memorable. Flavours are authentic and prices are not offensive. While there may be a huge choice of Thai eateries the Swine thinks Thai Thani is good enough to come back.

Simply awesome. Wait staff very respectful and friendly, our food divine.

Make it different. Terrible. Being a local I have visited Thai Thani for more than twenty years. Nothing has changed in twenty years- including one of the original owners and her husband. Freshen it up please! Boring! Predicatable! Not fresh! Lukewarm food. Blah.
Jenny
We went to Thai Thani this week. Food was very average - curry was watery and the food was quite tasteless. You would think that Thai fish cakes for an entree would be safe and tasty but they were so hot and spicy they were I edible. No taste except a burning mouth! Won't be going back

I have been going to Thai Thani on/off for the past few years. Recently I returned and was thoroughly disappointed. I think there has been change of management and the food was awful. I love thai and I used to regard thai thani as one of the best thai restaurant in Melbourne. The salads were so salty we could hardly eat it and the curry was watery and vegetables undercook. I definitely will NOT return to Thai thani.
Dude
Dude. I came here years ago when it was very nice...we had a voucher and we found the service and food wasn't up to the standard i was expecting...the entrees started with were dumplings that seemed slightly over grilled instead of normally steamed flavour...our soups were too spicy then the mains came out we had 2 mains to share a seafood combination and pad thai noodles...both were lacking in main ingredients...pad thai was loaded with bean shoots and seafood combo had a very small portion of seafood...overall a disappointing experience...won't be comong back

Nice takeaway. Great takeaway food, always satisfied... ate there as well- better for small groups.

The generous banquet One ($25 pp) represents very good value and is available for a minimum of two people, not four. Food is very consistent, and service is usually very good. Bizzarely, they have an out of this world reserve wine lst which includes a stable of powerful, vintage reds from Wild Duck Creek and the even rarer Wendouree.
Nysstar
The sauce was too intense for my noodle dish :(
Adam
Pad thai was no good. Tasted like it had tomato sauce in it??
Tiong Yong Hui
It has the best Thai fish cake in town. Sadly there was no banana fritter.

Not bad but had better. Recently visited with some friends and found it to be good but certainly not the best I have had. Entree was rather average, we got satay chicken skewers which I found were a bit small and also spring rolls which were relatively tasteless. The main was better, red chicken curry was nice. Pad thai was average and overpriced especially considering it was vegatarian. The chicken mince salad I thought was the most tasty. The service was fine. I did not really like the setup of the tables as I felt too close to others (would not be good if you were on a date).

We are Siameeiz if you pleeiz, we are Siameeiz if you don't please.. Hot, fragrant, tasty and pretty please. The seafood with creamy coconut on scallop shells were really good. Dessert rice with bananas and home made ice cream was absolutely delish
Now we lookin' over our new domicile,
if we like we stay for maybe quite awhile. Yes sir we did

Satisfying Thai.. Located on the corner of Brunswick and Johnson Street I often eat here with my family and have never had any problems with Thai Thani. The staff are friendly and attentive and the owner often comes round to talk to us. We often order a round of entree's including Koa Grieb Goong (Prawn Crackers), To Man Pla (Fish Cakes) and Poh Pia Tod (Spring Rolls) and they are always hot, fresh and tasty. We usually also order the Gang Keow Wan (Green Curry) which is creamy and spicy, Pla Choo Chee (Deep fried fish) which comes with a delicious spicey sauce, Tao Hoo Pad Khing (Fried bean curd with ginger and onion) and Pad Pak (Chicken stirfry) which is an easy one for the kids and for a hit of vegetables. I also can't pass up the Banana Fritter after such a great meal.
I have never had a problem with the kitchen and have found food service fine. Entree's often come out quickly after ordering. The staff do a turnover of plates and the mains come out soon after.
Some Saturdays it is a good idea to book ahead or if you're a big group.

Disapponting. After being very satisfied with their delivery many times, we thought the dine in experience would be fantastic. It wasn't. Very, very long waits and poor service. In all it took more than two hours - it wasn't even that busy. Then they delivered the meals one at a time, five minutes between them. Hopeless.

No apologies from them at all, even after a complaint. The guy actually smiled and nodded.
Suedy
Lovely staff, but food is lacking. I'm sorry to say that despite the loveliness of the staff, the food here is a bit lacking. Very average Thai food. The "special Thai salad" was literally shredded iceberg lettuce with some satay sauce over the top and a few thin slices of cucumber and tomato around the edges. We ordered a banquet and had to leave before dessert because it took so long for our food to come out. Entree arrived 45 mins after ordering, mains an hour later... We had been there for two and a half hours by the time dessert made an appearance but it was so late in the evening we just had to go. Maybe it was just this night, but I won't bother to go back to test that theory.
