Absolutely adore this place. Ambiance is great, service is wonderful, and food is fantastic. Our server -I didn't get their name but they were very short- was incredibly professional and looked after their own tables as well as helping new staff members out. Pretty impressive. Got a lemon lime and bitters but it was really really bitter. Even for a LLB. Almost like it had been made with grapefruit. I worked as a bartender for years and I've never had an LLB that tart. So maybe need to revise the recipe somewhat? Would also love to see images of Mexico on the big screen? Might make the place feel even more authentic. The beach scenes felt a bit out of place. Will 100% be back. Best Mexican food around.

Food tastes great 👍 they sure love their spices and I like the kick of it. Fish and pork tacos were great but chorizo taco wasn't good because of the rubbery texture skin. It was unpleasant to eat. Corn chips were a bit stale and guacamole was bland. Service was okay. We gave the feedback to a staff when we paid and the waitress said she'll pass it on to the chef.

This was a unplanned visit. Went out for pizza ended up at this place! No regrets. We ordered the Chicken Burrito, Chicken Quesadilla and Nachos. Serving sizes were very generous and super delicious! The ambiance was lovely and service was great.

A wonderful experience at Hecho. The barman Reid concocted the most amazing chili lime cilantro margarita. Popping with flavour. Possibly the best drink I have ever had. Well done! Oh and by the way the food was awesome too.

Yummy food, yummy cocktails. Decent amount of GF options on the menu. Had the pork tacos which are infused with orange. Delicious! My partner has tried all their tacos over time and their favourite is the fish taco followedly closely by the pork. Onion rings were the entrée and they were light and fluffy (best I've had). Definitely one of our go to places for comfort food as we can trust the flavour will never disappoint.

Really yummy! Ordered take away through Zomato app. Wasn’t ready when I got there on the recommended time but was only a short wait so no issues. Taquitos are soooo yummy and the chicken classic burrito is amazing. We got the chilli fries which were pretty good but didn’t really transfer well with takeaway- chips got a little soggy. Would defiantly try again dine in. Super keen to come back here with friends!

Unbelievably terrible service!!! Ordered on ubereats, kept me waiting for almost an hour and a half, and then cancelled my order without notifying me. If you can't do it, why keep customer waiting for soooo long??? And not even answering phone calls.

Went here on Saturday night with friends and while drinking my margarita, i found a little screw in my mouth. i told the staff and they apologised and got me a new one... it wasn't a hair, but a screw... and they still charged me for the drink. they could've at least remove that drink off the bill, or at least made the whole bill free for a very dangerous negligence.

I ordered from the Zomato app. I was told they would bring out the order when it was ready, when I came to pick it up. Despite the restaurant accepting the order through the app and me arriving on the expected time, I was told 20mins later that no one working there had any idea what my order was. I could see posters about using the zomato app in the restaurant so I am confused how this happened. I gave my name again and showed the server my order. The server’s was extremely rude and I did not find that she was trying to be helpful. After another 15mins my order was finally ready. When I got home I found that the taco platter was one short and we found a piece of plastic packaging in the Blanco Seafood Grande burrito. We found about 3 prawns in that burrito and no scallops. For the price and the wait...saying it was definitely not worth it is not enough

I’ve been to Hecho En Mexico a couple of times and had fairly good experiences. The first time I got corn, nachos to share with a friend and a beef burrito. The nachos were definitely the stand out on that occasion - lots of flavour and toppings. The beef burrito was nice however there was a lot of juice so got a bit messy especially since it was cut in half (more like a wrap than a burrito). My friend got the vegetarian chimichanga, which I tried some of - it was great! On my second visit I got nachos again, however this time they weren’t as good. I also got a stuffed jalapeño which wasn’t very hot so I was a little let down on this occasion. The Tommy Margaritas are fantastic - always a favourite of one at Mexican restaurants and these definitely bring my rating up from a 3 to a 4.

I’ve given this feedback directly to Hecho when this happened before - it doesn’t every time - and got no acknowledgement so I’m repeating it here. Pick up your game because your food is really tasty and I don’t want to have to ditch you.

Attended a family function here on a Wednesday evening, seated outdoors. To drink I ordered a Sangria and my meal was the Soft Corn Taco’s with Veggie filling and side of guacamole. It was absolutely delicious, the best Mexican food I can say I’ve ever tried. The service was outstanding. Our waiter for the night was so lovely, helpful and professional. I should have caught his name to thank him for his pleasant service and kind efforts!

Food good. Wait staff a little flakey. Ordered the seafood burrito asked for it to be plated on two plates as was sharing it. It arrived on one plate. Mandarin drink was too sweet. Cinnamon nachos were dry and more chocolate sauce flavoured. I wish I had ordered the fajitas! Order envy... so many alcoholic drinks to choose from.

Let me start of by saying that i would recommend this place highly, i have been to a couple of Mexican restaurants and by far i loved hecho en the most. The food was delicious, the staffs were polite and were keen to help us out and the ambience was very quick than most restaurants and the best part..they prompted us to utilise the discounts they were running...!!! Which was obviously awesome. My favourite was the taquitos and would definitely recommend if you are in for something fried n crispy. Loved it !!!

😱Lizzies first impression: my friend recommended me this place as he knows I love mexican food and I can't thank him enough for showing me! The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. We were seated outside and they never ignored us/always made sure we didn't need anything else. (and this is my biggest pet peeve when staff ignore you)  🍩Lizzie enjoyed: We ordered the fries with chipotle aioli, the enchaladas and the Beef Fajita. I was soo hungry and first thing I saw when it came out, was a bloody large serving. Not only that, the flavours were spot on and delicious. The fries were nicely cooked and the sauce was on another level!  The enchaladas we had had the perfect toasted burrito wrap on the outside but covered in delicious creamy sauce. They even had  a side of rice and beans on the side. Very impressed.  The fajitas was delicious as it was still sizzling as it came out. The beef was fresh and tasted delicious. They gave a generous amount of tacos and tasted perfect with the compimentary hot sauces.  🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: N/A  🥇Lizzie rates overall: I would come back time and time again if I could!

Have been here a few times and the food has been good erverytime. The portions are quite generous and very filling. I came in a group of 8 and we ordered the 10 item feast for 4 people and a few fish tacos and were all satisfied at the end of the meal. The chilaquiles and the fish tacos are my absolute favourite. When I come alone I usually get the chorizo burrito and am stuffed! The vast array of free hot sauces also spiced things up a bit. Overall, beautiful fresh flavours with a kick!

It’s a cute little Mexican place that makes you feel as though you are in a mini Mexican town. The service started good but then it got a bit lacking. The male server was on his phone a fair amount and not really paying attention when we tried to grab it. While we were sitting waiting to order, 2 cockroaches walked under our table. The dishes aren’t all that clean, with flecks of food or just soap smear on them. The Mexi Mexi chips were a great standout start. The steak fajita was good but not exciting. The corn chips with guacamole and chili con carne was good, not much more to say about it and the quesadilla was nothing to run back for. Overall it wasn’t a very exciting experience and probably would choose somewhere like Fonda over this place again!

This is not a particularly gluten free friendly Mexican place. Few menu options when its really easy to accomodate for is frustrating. I had the tacos, two tiny tacos for $13 was really not worth it and definitely left me feeling hungry, taste wise they were nothing special. My friends had burritos and were pretty happy with them - considering they paid $12 for a pretty large filling size I can see why! Service was friendly and they have a tonne of different hot sauces which is great.

The decor and outdoor seating made me feel as though I was transported to Mexico! The food was delicious - I highly recommend the nachos as they’re probably the best I’ve had to date, and the chipotle aioli was so tasty too. The meal came at a very good price and was more than enough food even for a relatively big eater! I will definitely be going back.

Quite possibly the worst service I’ve ever received. We walked in to be find a table to not even be acknowledged by the girl working behind the counter who was sitting there on her phone. Ordered our food and forgot half our order so one person was finished for 5 minutes til the rest of the order came out. Complete lack of effort. Would have thought the staff were made to be there for free and against their will. Feel sorry for the owners who have put their money into the business. Disappointed because it had all the makings of a quality venue

The Creative Couple were craving Mexican food so we looked on Zomato and decided to check out Hecho En Mexcio in Fitzroy. Located on Brunswick St, it is super busy and it’s quite difficult to find free parking, they’re usually 1-2 hours free parking. Anywho, walking in we were greeted very warmly by the staff. We ordered our meals and chatted away.

Delivery order, paid extra for cheese but got none - paid extra for a reason as I love corn chips salsa etc with cheese - without the cheese it was crap. 2 meals arrived squished into their take away containers and were an unappealing mishmash of soggy ingredients, delivered barely luke warm. The highly anticipated churros were very dry and cold. The meals were very salty, and perhaps would've tasted better if served fresh and hot on a plate and not delivered - I'll never know because what I got was a huge pile of soggy almost cold ingredients stuffed into separate containers that didn't even look appealing enough to eat.

Just ordered through Deliveroo. Chilaquiles and the sweet nachos. The Chilaquiles were pretty good, just wish they had a bit more corn chips, the corn chip/filling ratio is a bit off. The sweet nachos were great, except they didn't have any strawberries at all, and barely any chocolate sauce either, which dampened the quality of it a fair bit. 8$ for some nachos with cinnamon sugar and a drizzle of chocolate sauce, and no strawberries kinda sucked.

Possibly the worst Mexican restaurant in the world. Nothing came as ordered and most of the food was still sitting on the plate when we left. No hard tacos, no guacamole, and everythjng was covered in black beans. Do not eat here

Quesadilla was ok, boyfriend said his burrito was terrible - bland and soggy. I enjoyed the chips with chilli con carne flavour, but he thought the chips were frozen and soggy as opposed to fresh potato. Rose with strawberry and mint sounded better than it tasted. Overall there’s something I can’t put my finger on about this place, the feel isn’t quite right. It’s half way between a restaurant and takeaway Mexican place. Probably wouldn’t return.

I've been here a few times for dinner and it's a really lovely atmosphere. They do charge a surcharge for credit cards so I recommend bringing cash (although it's a pretty reasonable surcharge so it won't break the bank). The food arrives pretty quickly and the burritos are great. The drink options are good too - we usually order sangria.

Don't eat here if you are vegan/vegetarian or have dietary requirements of any kind. The food has been great when they have sent me when I ordered but they have sent me meat meals on a number of occasions when ordering vegetarian food so now I just avoid ordering food from there all together.

I was walking down Brunswick Street with friends and they noticed the beers for about $4 each so we went in for a drink. It was about 3 in the afternoon on a Tuesday so the restaurant was pretty empty. I don’t drink beer so I had the pineapple and mint sangria. My sangria was yummy and it reminded my friend of a mojito. They have artwork from another one of my friend’s favourite street artists; Kaffine. I’ll have to come here for food with this friend. The lady working here was friendly enough, she may have been disappointed that we went just for one drink hehehe.

Would like to see clearly marked vegan options so I don't have to bother wait staff, who were really nice and accommodating. Food was really nice, however I prefer Trippy taco and gringo vibes which have more vegan options plus vegan cheeses, sour cream and meats which I like as a treat when I go out to eat. Loved the burrito. Very filling and flavoursome, and it was packed with ingredients. The corn chips not so much..the chips stale and my friend and I thought you could make a dish like that much better at home. Decorations around the restaurant gave it a nice touch.

If you are hungry, these burritos will certainly fill you up! The grilled chicken & the fish were both delicious, & plenty of sauces the give extra zing. The filling in the chicken was slightly cool, & I think they both could have done with some extra grilling. The service was very slow - only one person behind counter. The burritos took a LONG time, so order ahead of time if you are in a rush.

I never had such strange and weird nachos in my life. I was playing pool at Red Triangle where the staff will organise the delivery of food from Hecho En Mexico. Unfortunately I didn't realise I had to choose a filling - the staff member at Red Triangle didn't inform me of this so he automatically chose the vegetarian filling. I thought nachos came with salsa, sour cream, guac.... Got none of that!! I got a tiny bit but not enough. The majority of my meal was broccoli, potato and barely any corn chips! So disappointing and was almost inedible. I wouldn't recommend ordering the nachos!

A very casual Mexican resturant with great decorative interior. Love the paintings. The staff were friendly and accomodating to which to choose and share. Food was delicious. -0.5 for cocktails which were just full of ice and had 4 sips of drink. Haha but flavoursome... but still thirsty 😂

Not a huge fan of Mexican food which is why I opted for a burger, this place has not made me want to eat it at all now. Cleanliness was lacking as the person who wiped down the tables decided to put the menus down before the table dried, causing soapy residue and a chemical smell to form and get on our hands. The cutlery also had soap marks on it as well and to top it off, the chicken was grey and pink on one side. Staff offered an explanation claiming it was marinade but I've never heard of such a thing.

After patronizing this establishment, I can say indubitably that this is NOT Mexican food. It is just a dumbed down "australianized" version of what australians think Mexican food is like. Mexicans NEVER eat tacos in crunchy shells, nor do they eat aioli. They cannot even get the names on the menu right. The dish is called CHILI CON CARNE, not CHILLY CORN CARNE. If you want to eat authentic Mexican food you need to go to Mexico. You will not find it in australia.

Ordered via UberEats. Veggie burger was solid, nice pattie and sweet bun, could've used a bit more spice as I chose the hot option. Held together well and looked good. Chilli veggie fries were a let down though, as they were under seasoned and bland. Overall not bad. A good late-night option.

The staff weren't very responsive or overly friendly, the guy wiped our table before we sat down and left it covvvvered with slimey soap bubbles which smelled really strong and gross. Now that was a meal that I've been waiting for! Everything was delicious, I could have licked the plate...no shame. We ordered the vegetarian chimichanga, veggie nachos and the chicken enchilada. Lovely assortment of flavours and textures in every meal - although with Mexican how can you go wrong with spices/cheese/sour cream and salsa. Only issue I had with this place was that it took well over 35 minutes for our food to arrive. But it wouldn't put me off returning, especially when it's also just a nice environment for socialising

MISLEADING MENU! I ordered some tacos for my celiac girlfriend. They were listed on the menu as gluten free. She ate them and commented that they didn't taste like corn tortillas, so I called the restaurant who confirmed they were NOT gluten free. My poor gf was sick for days afterwards! I emailed the restaurant and have received no response. Do not go here!

Not awful but probably wouldn't come back in a rush. Staff were a bit pushy on adding extra sides making the meal go from cheap to more expensive than I would have liked to have paid, for what I got. Portions were large and you could find some good deals of you were not feeling too hungry. For example starter nachos were pretty cheap, even with added guacamole (for an additional fee) If Mexican is your scene then might be worth a try but not the greatest Mexican I've had

If you are looking for an authentic Mexican experience then this is the place to go! Ever since I discovered this restaurant a few months ago I have been back every time I am in the mood for Mexican, the food is decently priced and tastes great. The nachos are my personal favourite, it is hard to find good nachos around Melbourne since most places have the typical greasy, bland corn chips with salsa (taco bill). This place does fantastic and flavoursome food and is worth a visit!

Well priced, authentic Mexican food - great menu and good service, the only gripe I have is that it can get a bit squishy inside the restaurant but this may also be because every time I've gone, we get seated on a table in the centre of the room near the cashier where people line up to pay and there's not enough circulation space... Sneakers – I came in here for lunch with a couple of friends. I tried the chicken taquitos, the seasoned chips and a hot chicken burrito. The chicken taquitos were delicious. They were nice and crispy with lots of delicious flavour. The same can be said about their spicy chips; the Mexican seasoning was awesome. The burrito was pretty standard though it was lacking cheese and sour cream, and their method of making it hot was to just pour tabasco sauce on it. My friends ate a vegetarian burger, chilli con carne and fajitas, all of which looked ok. Service was lacking – we stood there in the restaurant for around 3 minutes before just finding our own tables. Our table had a porcelain Mexican-style skull filled with cutlery, and it was disgusting. It had several chips out of it and it was covered in various sauces and filth. To be honest I wouldn’t return here even if I was in the area. Cleanliness of the restaurant – 5/10 Cleanliness of plates/cutlery/glasses – 3/10 Cleanliness of the menus – 2/10 Service – 3/10 Wait time for food – average Food overall – 7/10 Ambience – 3/10 Value for money – 5/10

This place has given me a new love of Mexican food, most of their menu can be quite comfortably (and deliciously) made vegan as well with no compromise on taste at all! Service is always great and the decor/murals have such a cool vibe (okay maybe a little tacky but it's fun!) Lovely active restaurant that I'm so glad to have stumbled upon, definitely one of my top faves for Fitzroy and I'll be back again and again till I've exhausted the menu.

Service was slow on Queens birthday where we waited 40 mins for our food to come out. Having said that, it was definitely one of the better served Mexican I've tried. The vege chilli fries were a delicious appetiser, not too heavy and not too light either. Great vegetarian options as well on the menu.

I found this place wandering around during lunch. The first thing you like is that this place is friendly and not in a hurry. I have tried mostly their burgers and I must say they are yummy and delicious. The meat is juicy and tender and with all the sauce oozing out, it really feels good. Only advice is that since the sauces ooz out you may want them to pack as take a away, that way it is more convenient to eat.

Have been here for Dinner once and also ordered home delivery. We sat outside which was heated and comfy. The waitress we had was great and had a good knowledge of the food that was served. Had a perfect mojito which is pretty hard to find! We had enchilada and quesadilla and both were delicious, fresh and had a good size portion. As we enjoyed it so much we ordered take out recently and it was obvious they don't put half as much attention on the takeaway dishes which was a real Shame. We ordered a side dish which was wrong when we opened it so we wasted our money. If we were to try again we would go and eat there.

Ordered delivery and the best word to describe is disappointing. The food delivered looked like it had been heavily shaken, turned upside down and then thrown across the back of a truck - it was difficult to even determine which dish was which. Most dishes were Luke warm (if that) and $90 worth of food (after the first time order special offering 15% off) felt like a huge rip off after waiting an hour and a half and seeing what we got. The taste of the food itself was ok... At best. Not a fan and won't be ordering from here again.

If you want a tasty and fast burrito, it pretty much the only option in Fitzroy/collingwood. If I wake up on a Saturday hungover with Mexican food cravings then I'd come here. Cheap eat, but good value! The food isn't mind blowing, but it's pretty good, and fantastic for the price. It seems like it's appealing to backpackers with their decor and drink specials. I can handle the strange choice of gigantic painted naked ladies but I have to say the flashing LED lighting on the bar just looks tacky and is off-putting! I'd recommend sitting outside instead. Great options to satisfy vegetarians, and tortillas are the right kind (corn, ie gluten free). Their concept of heat isn't very spicy. I ordered their most hot option and wasn't blown away, but you can always add extra hot sauce. They also do takeaway & home delivery.

Love the place and the staff service... It's one of the best Mexican cuisine I have ever tried. The service is quick and highly appreciable. The variety of liquor and food items is excellent. I have visited the Restuarant many times post my workout and the staff has taken care with the kind of low calorie food I requested them. The ambience is tacky and makes u feel like a Mexican... A few of us thought we'd drop into this place for some Mexican and boy were we disappointed. Absolutely disgusting!!!! Don't waste you're time here. Wish we kept walking. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone let alone a street rat. It's been several hours since I ate the veg ensalada and I still feel nausea. It wasn't even a proper salad. Just because you throw lettuce on top of some tomato sauce and capsicum does not make it a salad. Nachos were disgusting and for the amount you pay you were lucky if you got 15 cheap corn chips smothered in nauseating salsa shredded beef. Being in Fitzroy/Collinhwood there are so many other amazing places to choose from....

Good food at reasonable prices. Service is always friendly and prompt and there is never a long wait for meals even when they are super busy. I always choose hot sauce so this doesn't bother me but my friends have said that the medium spice is not spicy at all. Lucky they have a large choice of delicious hot sauce bottled on the counter!

A Wednesday night, ordered takeaway - only after they took payment did they say it would be an hour. 1 hr 15 mins later I phoned to ask how my order was going. 'The driver left 5mins ago and it's only a 5min drive, should be there in minutes' 10mins later my phone rings 'Can we have your address again we haven't left yet' Cold expensive slop arrived. I visited the restaurant and informed them that I'd use my scoopons. It all went fairly well until the food was brought to the plate. We discovered that our burritos were 40% smaller than the one at the next table. The nachos were served on such a small plate. I had to goto another restaurant to finish dinner! Poor show Hecho, terrible strategy. Scoopons are used to lure new customers into the business, and you've managed to use them to work against you.

If i was't so hungry i would of returned this piece of shit meal back pronto for the following reasons: 1. it was cold. 2. your fries portions were the size of a Mcdonalds happy meal serving, if not smaller. 3. fries were also VERY soggy and tasted like they were sitting in the ugly ass brown paper bag for an hour. 4. burrito was small and extremely average. 5. The pulled pork at Mad Mex is divine. Flavoursome and fresh. Go there and not to Hecho En Mexico. Recently had my first visit to HeC and ordered the pulled pork quesadilla. It was bland. Not bad, not good, just bland. Even the salsa couldn't perk it up. The $4 beer was pretty tasty though.

Went with a friend Tues night and were seated quickly upstairs (as downstairs was full) Ordered cheese stuffed jalapeños which were yummy, corn chips with guacamole and salsa which were average (not much flavour with the guacamole and their cornchips were overlooked and a bit bland) and for mains I had the chorizo enchilada (chorizo was a bit dry) and my friend ordered fish fajitas, both of which were tasty with black beans and rice. Staff were attentive and friendly, music was cranking electro Latino which is a bit off putting as it feels like you're in a banging club not a restaurant. It veers closer to the tex mex side of the border with more of a cheesy sour cream hit to the dishes, so probably not my idea of mexican but they make up for it with a laid back non-pretentious staff and atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks and a relaxed dining experience..

Not bad mex but not the best I've ever had!. This place caught our eye due to its very colourful avante garde paintings on the walls and the colourful umbrellas outside. Plus it had a $3.99 beer sign! It was hot and we were thirsty. We were excited about this place, none of us had been here and we thought why not. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who spoke very quietly and was a bit hard to understand. Anyway we got beer! We got the menus and we proceeded to order the nachos with con carne but were advised minutes later that the con carne was not ready could we please change our mind. So we went with the shredded beef. nachos were very tasty and full of flavour. Our mains were a different story. All of us had pulled pork - we are all pulled pork lovers and two of our party had the pull pork burrito which quite sincerely very bland. Made with just that pulled plain pork (no seasoning or sauce) and plain rice (again no cilantro), my soft tacos were not bad had more flavour than their burritos. I wouldn't say it was great value for money for what you got but it was ok. we are going to give it another go and try something else. Hecho please improve your pulled pork!!!!!

Wonderful experience. I was craving a burrito late one Friday night and I recalled this Mexican place on the corner of Brunswick and Argyle that I had passed countless times - so I decided to check it out! Ordered a big burrito with everything, accompanied by a bottle of cheap Mexican beer. Delicious! Exactly what I was craving and it hit the spot perfectly. Service was wonderful, the waiter was very friendly and attentive; despite it being a very busy Friday night. Will definitely go back for more! (Especially if I find myself craving burritos again).

Try the chili con carne nachos. Nice casual Mexican eatery - reasonable prices. Food was nice enough. We especially liked the chilli con carne nachos & the jalapeno entree. The hot salsa with the burritos was indeed very hot or perhaps it was the quantity. Either way my table were all sweating even though we consider ourselves chilli lovers. The fish fajita was very generous.

I can't help but laugh at a majority of these recent, positive reviews as I wonder whether I sat at the same restaurant tonight. The service was confused: is it table service or do you order at the counter? Some people had table service, some didn't. We were sat near the kitchen so I could see how much love did NOT go into the food. We had the nachos with chewy beef and no seasoning and about 3 strings of cheese and the "ensalada" topped with old looking lettuce (slightly brown around the edges) and with cheese that looks like that pre-grated "mozzarella" that you get from the dairy section in the supermarket. Granted the food is cheap and in this case, you get what you pay for. Will never go back. No matter how hangry I am.

You WILL be disapponted: Really poor Mexican food and really poor food - from someone who lived in Mexico. My partner and I ate at Hecho en Mexico today and we were really disappointed. I ordered the nachos with chorizo topping. She ordered the "ensalada", with specific request for no sour cream and no cheese, since she's lactose intolerant. After some time our meals arrived - but I received chicken instead of chorizo and her meal was covered in sour cream. I decided not to return mine, because I didn't want to wait. She returned hers and it was replaced quickly. The meals were not good. We were asked ahead of time whether we wanted hot, medium, or mild. We both indicated hot. I thought this would mean that they'd lots of delicious Mexican spices. What it really meant was that the meals were absolutely drenched in a sickly-sweet/spicy chipotle sauce, which really didn't even taste much like chipotle. This is not the way Mexican food is supposed to be served. It should be a plate of fresh, hot food with a side dish of either chopped onions, tomatoes, and cilantro (coriander), or a mixed pico de gallo, and a selection of salsas (rojo, verde, chipotle, etc). With our meals already soaking in the nasty chipotle sauce there was no way we were going to add any more. The food itself was really disappointing as well. My nachos were really pretty disgusting, and ended up giving me a stomach ache - small, tasteless nachos, not much cheese at all (and what little there was seemed to be melted to the plate at the bottom, just a little bit of avocado, thin and watery sour cream, non-discript chicken, not many beans - pretty blah. My partner's salad was no better at all. We both ate because we were hungry, not because we were enjoying, and we left wishing we hadn't eaten because we both got stomach aches from the ocean of chipotle sauce. Avoid this place. There are much, much, much better options for Mexican food in Fitzroy and the surrounding area. Don't waste your time and money on this one.

Nothing special. Took the family there for dinner yesterday, they seated us right by the door which was open and the wind was very cold. We ordered our drinks and mine came out but hubby's and the kids didn't until after a while of waiting I asked and then they were brought out. Entree we had the salsa and chips and the nacho's which were delicious. Then we had our mains hubby and I ordered chicken fajitas my son the taco's and my daughter the chicken quesadilla. Miss six enjoyed her quesadilla and master 8 enjoyed his taco's. My chicken fajitas however were drowning in a sauce and their was loads of onion and capsicum but not much chicken and my husband had the same problem. We were only given two soft tortillas as well which wasn't enough and I wasn't that impressed with the food. We finished with some desert of churros with chocolate sauce which were nice but very very oily and I think over priced. I lived in Los Angeles and have eaten lots of authentic Mexican and I would say this wasn't the best but it was awful either. Personally I think Taco Bill do a better job at Mexican food. Wouldn't go back.

Welcoming environment with authentic vibes. Greeted immediately by the manager, or the man with the hat, we were seated and ready to order within seconds. Our order consisted of a small burrito, chips and a drink for $9.99, a value rarely seen in authentic restaurants. We asked if we could order a coffee instead of a soft drink and with no hesitation the manager obliged. The food was brought out in timely fashion, as well our professionally made coffees. The food was top shelf in regards to size and even more so in regards to taste. Overall, the welcoming nature of the resturant and manager made our experience at Hecho a delightful one and one that will be experienced again soon. Highly recommend.

Horrible and infuriating experience. The worst experience of being out for dinner in Melbourne ever. Got there, the place was empty had a few drinks then ordered our meals. The place then filled up and as we waited for our food we noticed that people that came in after us were getting their meals. After 40 minuets of waiting I enquired where our meals were, the waiter the went to check he never returned to tell me. A further 10 minutes went past I proceeded to ask anyone. him again he gave me no explanation so I told him to cancel the order and we paid for our drinks and left. We got no apology or any reason for the order not arriving, what a horrible experience I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Quick fresh friendly. Decided to drop in on hecho for quick dinner on a friday nite before going out, Honeslty looking at the prices i was not expecting it to be just another mexican fast food place but i was pleasantly surprised at the quick and friendly service and the quality and freshness of the food. the cocktail menu is pretty good and the 3$ broo beers are the best. That makes hecho my weekly watering hole and a place to get a quick feed that doesnt hurt the wallet ;)

Awesome!. On a lazy Wednesday night, we decided to stop sown Brunswick St and have some dinner. We finally settled on Mexican. My husband had the fish taco's and I had the ensalada. Both meals were fresh and packed full of flavour! This was the best Mexican we have had in a long time. Will definitely be recommending Hecho En Mexico to others..... Well done!

Loved it!. I'd been hearing and reading great things about this place for months & am so glad I finally went for dinner. The food is fantastic, it's the best Mexican food I've had in Melbourne. The service was great & the mini cantina feel is delightful. I had the beef quesadillas, yum & very filling! The mojito was also good. I strongly recommend for dinner!

Dined here on Friday night and wasn't very impressed to begin with, even though we booked a table it seems as though we were thrown on the closet table and we had to remind the waitress that there were more people coming for out booking. We thought about leaving but glad we stayed! The food and margaritas were delicious and very fresh! We are nachos and I had the ensalda and the others ordered tacos and quesadillas... Everyone left very satisfied. Don't be turned off by the cafe feel, stay for the food, it's worth it and very cheap!... Hiring some better wait staff could also be an advantage but the one guy wearing the scarf was extremely good... We will return!

Terrible! Put in our order, it took over 40mins for food to come out and they got our order wrong. When I finally got the attention of a waiter and told them, they just stared at me and said 'oh.' I asked for the order to be corrected and was met with another blank look. Then I asked how long it would take I was told 'it'll take a while...' When the second attempt arrived it was still wrong! When I told the waitress she stared blankly at me again so I said not to worry about it as I was too hungry. The food was cold and bland. After the meal we waited for the bill that never came and were not offered more drinks or dessert. When I approached the counter and explained to another waitress about our order I was given a free chips and soft drink at my next visit card. I can safely say that I will not be going back to claim that!! You'd be better off to make Mexican at home!

Something so weird happened! There were vegetables and rice with my onion ensalada!! Lucky the onion taste overrode the other ingredients and has now been left in my mouth all day. The blandness of the meal was extraordinary, and it was quite funny how I asked for a side plate and was told that there were no clean ones.... Instead of rather cleaning one and saying "yep, sure...just give me one minute." If I would eat here again: no need - the onion taste is still lingering!

Talk about food that is reheated and not made to order...... Probably should have gone by the negative reviews on this place as all their opinions were correct. Firstly, asked for Nachos to come as entree but no, they got the order wrong. My main burrito was served and we had to wait for my boyfriends main to come out 8 mins later, but also came with the entree nacho's. So we tried to eat our nacho's fast before they got cold and immediately had to start our mains. My burrito was really bad, it was prepared before and seemed to have been nuked in the microwave, very doughy tortilla filled with just beans and rice only few small pieces of chicken. My boyfriends enchillada was not very warm in the middle indicating that his meal too was just reheated. Do yourself a favour, stay home and cook your own Mexican.

Forgot our food. We started the bad experience with dry nachos. no cheese no salsa. They said thats how we do it. If I had wanted corn chips I would have bought some at the supermarket. We then waited a further hour whilst people who had arrived after us were being fed. Finally after deciding the table was inedible we asked about our mains only to discover that they had "lost" our order. They apologised gave us a free crappy Sangria and hurried off. The food came very fast, but in their haste the enchiladas here cold and we were by then to tired and hungry to complain. The other meals were very very average. Never eat there again

Pretty Great. Had a beef burrito which unfortunately came with black beans although I asked for it without. However, it was a pretty awesome burrito - fresh, spicy and hearty - and despite the black beans, I ate the whole thing. Also love the Spanish ciders.

So salty it was inedible!. We happened to be wondering around Fitzroy and thought we'd try this new Mexican restaurant. With kids in tow we ordered the kids menu nachos, Beef tacos and a Beef Burrito. The beef in both beef dishes was so salty it was inedible. The kids nachos serving was so small you could count on one hand the number of corn chips in their meal....OK I exaggerate....maybe 2 hands...oh they did put it in a massive dish so I guess they think that makes up for it????!!!! The sour cream we asked to be served on the side was watered down so it resembled a watery white sauce. Won't be going there again. If they don't pick up their game they certainly won't last. The service was also mediocre.

Worst mexican ever!!!. It is hard to find a good mexican joint in Australia, they mostly serve americanized versions. Hoping to grab a quick meal I wasn't too bothered so I made the mistake of going to Hecho En Mexico. The food and service here is beyond bad. Getting the attention of staff proved very difficult (people were in the restaurant but they weren't busy). I asked a simple question about the filling options and was met with a blank stare. I don't know why this was so difficult The food took way too long to come out and was not even good. Tasteless would be the word to describe, no spice and no flavour. Also if you are looking for a proper sit down meal this really more basic. The menu is not interesting just regular tex-mex takeaway stuff. Also the beer is served in tinnies, this says it all.

Being a local to the area, I've really tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt. Having tried it once and the food and service not been so great, my boyfriend and I decided to give it another go. We absolutely love mexican and there's no where else around here you can get it. But yet again, we have been disappointed. After this time, we won't be coming back again. The waitress took our order eventually after we had to explain what a "side" of corn chips and guacamole was, as a starter and we waited. When it came out, the corn chips were hot, half burnt and the small TEASPOON of guacamole was more like diced spring onions. At $2.50 a serve, when you can buy 2 avocados for $5 at the shop down the road.. You'd think they could at least give you enough for more than one chip!! I can't believe a 'mexican' rest has hot chips on the menu and no chips and guac?!!! Has the owner researched mexican food at all?????? Or even Westernised Mexican food???!! After my two tacos arrived and there was no sign of my partners burrito, we asked the waitress where it was. "Oh, burrito? I didn't get that" she said. I'm sorry, you didn't get it, after you read back our order the first time? Ok.. She asks if we'd like to order again, so we do. Eventually we get the burrito but it's wrapped in foil and placed on a tiny chopping board no bigger than the burrito itself. Huh? Won't go on but I don't recommend this place at all. Very little thought seems to have gone into this place, the decor, the staff and the menu. Better off at Guzman and Gomez any day.

Gave this place a try despite the bad reviews but unfortunately I must agree with the bad feedback... After we were seated waited about ten minutes to have our drink order taken, no water or glasses put at the table (had to wait another five minutes to get staff attention to ask for them). Drinks (a wine and a beer) took far too long to come out considering how many staff they had on just wandering around looking completely disengaged, like they'd never worked in a restaurant before. It did get a bit busy throughout our dinner, but staff, although mostly friendly, didn't seem to know what they were supposed to be doing. The food itself (burritos) were ok, but nothing special. Having to ask for corn chips as a side dish at a Mexican restaurant as they aren't on the menu is a bit pathetic- they have hot chips on the menu but no tortilla/corn chips and dips?! However they do put corn chips IN the burritos. Hmmmm. Needless to say the corn chips that did come out were cooked (burnt) and mostly inedible and the salsa (they call it 'pico' but it's basically mild Old El Paso salsa) was pretty awful for somewhere claiming to be 'Hecho En Mexico'. Overall vibe was pretty bad- too bright, top 40 countdown music playing, we felt like we were at a Mexi-themed beach restaurant in Thailand... I liken this place to one of the many dives on Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares... Everything was just all wrong and I didn't even see the kitchen!

Best Nachos in Melbourne. Went there last night with friends and ordered nachos. Was surprised wen asked if I wanted meat in it, to which I said Yes and they were the best nachos I ever had since in Melbourne. As it was My first time there and I was confused, the staff on the other hand was very helpful and sweet. Definitely returning back :)

Despite having booked a table for 10 they had reserved a cramped table for 8 - we moved an empty table ourselves to sort this out. Staff seemed disengaged at best and getting their attention was hard throughout the night. On top of this the food wasn't all that - 45 mins between the first and last of our dishes arriving at the table and a very bland and luke warm burrito when mine (the last dish) finally arrived.

Ripped off!. Ordinary burrito, bland ensalada. the food came out so quick, I have to assume it was already made and just had to be microwaved. in fact my corona took longer. After all that i ws overcharged by nearly $10 on a thirty dollar bill. Next time we'll go to salsas.

Good Food!. We saw this new place in brunswick and we decided to give it a shot. Not authentic mexican food pretty much the same concept as MadMex but nicer. Choose between burrito, tacos, nachos, quesadilla etc, choose the filling and at the end the salsa. We tried the nachos with chorizo and the burrito with chicken, it was yummy, the chipotle salsa bit hot but perfect as mexicans is what we are looking for. The decoration is beautiful, the staff very friendly, the only thing that I was a little bit dissapointed was that nobody spoke spanish. :( Will go back for sure!!

Good Food. Awful Cocktails. The margaritas and mojitos are made with lime cordial, and the strawberry margaritas are made with strawberry ice cream topping. They are disgusting! The food on the other hand was very nice. We ordered beef nachos and tacos, and the meat was delicious and tender. I would go back and drink beer and eat the food.

A Mexican Resto that butchers margaritas... Really?. Ok let's start with the drinks, an essential part of the Mexican Resto experience... This place makes theirs lime margeritas with cordial, bad tequila. That's pure laziness and taste awful, we literally left ours on the table! But seriously, come'on! Key ingredient to nachos, umm... Cheese? We had to work hard to spot that and the burritos were filling... And that's about it! So if you're looking for a good terrace, god awful drinks and a stomach ache, this is the place to be!

Great nachos, average burritos.. Nachos are excellent! It's hard to do nachos well but they do. The burritos are so so. Too much gluggy white rice and black beans, not enough meat. We ordered a frozen margarita expecting it to be the normal green, sourish lime flavoured cocktail with salt on the rim, but it came out pink, sweet and berry flavoured with sugar on the rim. It was nice enough, but sweet, and not what I thought we ordered. The service is good, food is fast, and the value for money and food quality is much better than the previous mexican restaurant in this building. I am glad there is reasonably priced quality mexican in fitzroy again!

Definately go here. Came here the first day they opened - whenever i made an order that was not a normal one (i.e. requests for no beans, etc), they'd stuff it up....but now they run quite smoothly. ONLY CHEAP TASTY MEXICAN PLACE ON BRUNSWICK ST. i've been waiting for a place like this to open in the neighbourhood, so it's really great. don't let the tacky decor fool you, the food is real good.

In the 90s, Melbourne had a few places doing the odd nacho, taco etc etc etc The food of then is here now at hecho en Mexico. Only difference, the waitress is modern fitzroy, polite but a casual staffer. The cook is efficient but a casual staffer. Te food is just that, food with a Mexican orientation. So you get all the Mexican fare, basic menu, average price, nothing special, nothing to be in the weekend glossy mags, but also nothing to complain about. Lots of beer, but I asked for spirits and told they had none, though I think there was a communication problem there. Nice juices, quick service, the waitress was helpful and cheerful, she got a tip. No coffee!!, how can a place have no coffee?!? One thing, extra guacamole, a little thimble, 2.50 is a jip. So, was ok, good for a group to just pop in to , doin the check out scene. Pp

Went to Hecho En Mexico on a buzy Saturday for dinner and we left very impressed. Considering the place was packed,service was superb ,food was excellent and tasted so fresh. Their staff know what they are doing and was even offered a complimentary drink as it was our first visit. Well be back for sure!!!!

Hechos en Mexico is a new Mexican joint on Brunswick st in Fitzroy. It is about a ten minute tram ride from the city. I went on the night that I went to the International Couch. I didn't really like the vegetarian offerings at the couch as they were not substantial for me. So I went there and got takeaway. Normally I don't do this but I had to rush back to the Couch.
