Review La Bodega De Andres - Fitzroy

Mounica Kondepati
It's my first time going to a Spanish restaurant. I wanted to try paella very much so I searched for the cheap and best paella I found this amazing place. Where I like everything is tried. There is a lady dancing in Spanish style and a man with guitar playing continously I really appreciate their work. Paella took some time to come. In the mean time we were enjoying the music and dance with a glass of sangria which I loved

The place is so well decorated, the service is really good and the food is very yummy!! The prawns are amazing!!! By far my favorites with the sangria. The ceviche wasn't nice, too much olive oil... but all the rest was delicious!! Would definitely be back to try the rest of the dishes!

La Bodega de Andrés it's a place very well located near to Smith St. There, you can find classic Spanish food and bring to feel yourself as being in bar in Lavapies Suburb in Madrid. The restaurant is decorate as a traditional Spanish bar with typical elements from Spain as the "farolillos de Osborne", the Spanish flag and some cans and brands from Spain on their walls. The music is Latin. When we arrive to the restaurant it was playing some reggaeton music, that is not very representative from the Spanish culture, but after a while, the Sevillanas and flamenco music started to sound and it was great listened to this songs in the heart of Melbourne, good memories from my home country. The food is delicious. We asked for a seafood soup, "pulpo a la gallega/octopus to the party (galician style)", huevos rotos con chorizo/broken eggs with chorizo, and we must said it was really good. The price is ok, and no very expensive if you compare with other restaurants in the area. The waitress and the people who was running the business were very polite and attentive but I just missed a thing. One beer Estrella Galicia, but I recommend it 100%. I will come back

Delicious authentic Spanish food that we found walking down Brunswick street . A great selection of tapas sharing dishes and we loved it 😋👌🏻

Nice little place on Brunswick street. Spanish type deco and gypsy Kings music playing to make it feel more authentic. We had a few different tapas to cover us before a party. Crockets, eggplant, potatoes and pinchitos.(lamb kebab). All had good flavour and reasonable prices around $12 each average. Friendly service. I will return.

Never again, the palace was little busy maybe 35 guests but the waiter seems to handle it ok, but the kitchen in my opinion had a really bad time, we ordered croquettes and 3 beer after 10 minutes we got the beers after 10 minutes more the Spanish girls told us the kitchen run out of croquettes, we did not order anything else as entree as we were waiting for paella after another 15 minutes we received the paella that was not good taste funny and the color was not suggesting the freshness of the dish black mussels (boiled and frozen for sure) fish with a very funny taste we sent it back and the chef said everything was fresh (of course). We did not even eat half of it but the waitress said she was going to charge 50% because we ate half of it, also we got 25% of eat club that they did not accept. End of the meal 35$ for one quart of paella and half beer, the worse customer service ever.

Went here on a Tuesday night and had the calamari & huevos rotos with a couple glasses of wine. Calamari was light and crispy, and huevos rotos was herby and comforting. They also gave us complimentary jamón & cheese which was delicious and much appreciated. The food was probably the most authentic Spanish food I've had in Melbourne, the ambiance was so homey and Andrés checked on and conversed with all diners throughout the night. We had the campo viejo tempranillo and marques riejo wine, both amazing choice. Thank you Andrés, we'll be back soon!

I turned up very late. They graciously served delicious tapas. The lamb was divine; just the right balance of salt and olive oil. Eggplant and goat's cheese; superb flavours. A glass of Tempranillo was complex and rich. A sensory delight. Service was kind and efficient

We really enjoyed the flamenco music. We had just arrived from Spain and enjoyed the guitar and dancing. You could tell the dancer is from Spain. But the good let me say is authentically Spanish. The paellas are not like these paellas at la bodega se Andres in Australia anywhere
Don't miss it

Delicious Spanish staples in a rustic setting. Generous portions for the price. Friendly service and very accommodating of our 8 month old baby. Will definitely return.

Ended up here on a Friday night as nomada was fully booked and I was really craving Spanish food. Food was very bland and underwhelming. For the price and the decent rating on Zomato, I was expecting more quality, authentic and fresh ingredients but unfortunately everything we ordered was subpar. Ambience could be improved as well, better lighting would help too.

The food was amazing, but the service was quite disappointing. There were two waitresses, who were friendly enough but definitely under the pump and needed more support. We had to ask for water, and when we did, we were initially only given 4 glasses - there were 10 of us. I ordered calamari but was given an octopus dish. When I informed one of the waitresses that this was not the dish I had ordered, she told me that it was and that I had pointed to it on the menu when I ordered. When I ordered, I did not point at the menu and simply requested the calamari. It turns out that I was given a dish that my friend had ordered, and that they had forgotten my calamari. I understand that the waitress was most likely very stressed, and that serving a large group of people who have never been to this restaurant before is not an easy task. However, to be told that it was my fault that I had the wrong dish was unprofessional.

The food is really good with generous portions, the staff is friendly and always keen to give you a suggestion.

I strongly recommend this place if you want to enjoy the best Spanish food. The chicken paella is great. 5⭐

We had dinner at this restaurant last night, when we arrived there wasn’t anyone else there. We generally enjoyed the food. The papas bravas were fantastic but the croquetas could have been crispier.
The service was very sweet. What annoyed me was asking for things from the menu only to be told they weren’t available - this happened about 6 times! I understand you might not have everything available on a quiet night but for goodness sake just provide an abbreviated menu.

The staff were lovely and attentive, however I have to say that the food was some of the blandest I’ve ever eaten. The ceviche looked like it had been cooked (and tasted that way too, whilst also lacking flavour), and something as simple as patatas bravas completely lacked in condiments and flavour. We had a few other dishes that were very average too. On the up side the patatas bravas were very crunchy, and the sangria was nice! Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant

Was there last night with a group of friends. A very warm relaxing atmosphere. The staff were very polite and professional. The Sangria was amazing, and all the food that we ordered was incredible. WOW cant wait to go back. Food Ordered - Croquettes, Octopus, Eggplant with goats cheese, Crunchy Potatoes, Seafood Paella & Squid Ink Paella with Aoli. I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant.

Amazing experience! Andres welcomed us with tasty tapas and finish our night with the most delicious Paella ever tried in Melbourne! Wonderful service by Andres and Sandra! 100% recommended! 🤤

Very good Spanish restaurant. Tasty food and excellent service. It is common to see Andres talking with customers around the tables. We took several tapas this time but we will come back for paella!

The croquettes here were pretty nice. Everything else was pretty plain. The fired potatoes tasted like the frozen store bought type, the ham was bland, and the meatballs had a very weird texture. The search for a good tapas place continues it seems

An authentic Spanish restaurant that we were excited to try, especially after we were seated and could smell the food coming past us to other tables. We enjoyed the tapas, especially the calamari. Papas bravas were nice and perfectly crispy, and so were the jamon croquetas but they lacked flavour. The $12 paella special was good value but a little too dry for our liking. The seafood could have been fresher, but for the price we aren’t complaining. Service was great and deserves a special mention. The restaurant itself was charming but on the night we visited was a little too quiet which detracted from the ambience.

Great place to go! Friendly staff, awesome food...best service ever!!!! It is hard (sometimes) to find food similar to the one in your country but this restaurant was 100% Spanish food! I fell in love with the croquettes, and taste the super refreshing sangria....during that night for a couple of hours I felt home was not so far. Thank you to all the staff and to Andres for the great chat!

The best Spanish restaurant in Australia!!! Croquetas, calamares, huevos rotos... (croquettes, calamari, scrambled egg with chorizo) it was amazing!! Olé, olé y olé!!

I absolutely cannot rate this place any higher. The staff were fantastic, the food came out really quickly, and every single plate were simply extraordinary. The waiter recommended one of the red wines, which was one of the smoothest I’d ever tasted. I have never written a review of any kind in my life, but this little gem deserves all the praise i can possibly give.

We really, really wanted to like this place, and as Fitzroy locals were excited to try this new restaurant. We sat down at just after 9. As expected the place was heaving. Great atmosphere and warm decor, exactly like places we have visited in Spain. We both understand when restaurants are busy, good food takes time. We ordered 4 simple plates of food and a bottle of wine (the wine list is fantastic). Our croquettes arrived really quickly, we now think they may have been sent back to the kitchen by another table as they were warm, almost cold inside. It then took over 50 minutes for our next plate of food to arrive. We asked a few times where our food was, to which our waitress replied it was one minute away. I could see into the kitchen and it appeared our docket had gone missing from the pass. We were waiting so long, another waiter walked past and asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu.... assuming we’d finished our meal. We would have left and gone somewhere else, but we didn’t want to leave behind our beautiful bottle of wine.
Food was so flavoursome and really enjoyable, but we won’t be back. Service was terrible.

My recent trip to Spain really gave me a passion for Spanish food so I thought...why not drag my friends out to the latest Spanish spot in Fitzroy?! Literally still maintaining its new restaurant smell, La Bodega de Andres is in the food central suburb of Fitzroy and embodies the tastes and flavours of my favourite country!

This restaurant set a standard for how restaurants should treat their customers. Not only did the owner made us feel at home, he went above and beyond to meet all of our restrictions on our orders. The food was delicious. I would highly recommend checking this place out.

We relived our memories of Spain with Andrea’s authentic Spanish cuisine. The food was great, really fresh using delicious seasonal ingredients. We loved everything we ordered, particularly the lamb done in the tagine, the pulpo de galacia (octopus) and the squid ink paella. The bread they serve in the restaurant was quite amazing!! Honestly, it was better than my nonna’s and hers is pretty good. We were so lucky to have Andreas come to our table and introduce himself. What a lovely and funny man. A real character. We really enjoyed meeting him and hearing his stories. If you love authentic Mediterranean cuisine, you can’t go past this place. It’s a real gem. The atmosphere of Brunswick Street in the warm weather was lovely, and this place certainly adds to the Fitzroy experience. We will definitely be back to try the whole 4 pages of the menu!! Highly recommended. Do yourself a favor and GO!

We had such a great experience at La Bodega de Andres. The food was incredible as was the service and atmosphere. I highly recommend the octopus and paella negra. My friend is from Spain and she said the food is completely authentic! The food was washed down very nicely with a delicious jug of sangria. We'll definitely be back.

After living in Spain for two years I tried La Bodega de Andres last night. The food, atmosphere and Andres’ hosting skills were all fantastic and I’ll definitely be going back for some traditional Spanish cuisine soon. The black rice with prawns, clams, mussels and squid was great. Highly recommended.

I am always on the lookout for authentic Spanish fare and so we got to La Bodega de Andres literally as soon as I became aware this restaurant existed. We ordered some of the classics with a few wines:

-Patatas bravas with chorizo
-Artichokes
-Morcilla
-Mushrooms

Everything we ate was fantastic. We’ll definitely come back to explore some more of the menu as everything was spot-on. The only authentic touch missing was a basket of bread on the table. The prices of the dishes and drinks were all really reasonable as well.

When we stopped by on a Thursday the restaurant was pretty quiet and two wait staff didn’t seem to be enough to keep up with the drink and food orders as we had to wait a while to order wines, but the service was helpful and friendly otherwise.

I thought there was a good selection of wines and the selection of Spanish beers available is extensive.

I'd have to say this is the most authentic Spanish restaurant I have been to in Melbourne.

Amazing restaurant!! Great quality food and friendly service. I highly recommend the octopus, the croquetas and the paella!! I can guarantee it's definitely the best Spanish restaurant in Melbourne, so I will repeat for sure!

The food was really good and the chef personally took care of all the customers. We even had house special appetiser. Would go back for dinner again. 👏🏼👏🏼

My partner and I had dinner here last night. Overall it was a nice evening. We ordered the croquettes, salmon ceviche and marinara paella. 2 of the four croquettes were on the cold side and I think they needed a bit more flavour. The ceviche was on point and a huge serve, definitely the favourite of the night. The paella was nice but was missing something, maybe under seasoned? The seafood was really nice. Great wine list. The waitstaff were touch and go, one waiter was very attentive however the other didn't engage or seem to want to be there. Overall a nice setting, I do wish they would dim the lights slightly as it is overly bright for a late night romantic dinner. Nice night overall, I would definitely come back. As they have just opened hopefully these are just growing pains.

Fantastic atmosphere and true to the tapas cuisine. A must for anyone wanting to taste the real experience here in Australia. Also a big fan of Arcadia the mother restaurant. Please go and you will leave with a full belly, laughs and fun. Loved it
The croquetas, paellas, scallops and wine are to die for
