I love Dosas and whenever I have cravings for it or something something spicy and salty I can't stop myself from eating at Dosa hut footscray.I really like their food and service. It has become my favourite hang out place with my friends and family.I highly recommend this place to all.one must try at least once and you will be in love with this place I swear.
Went there with friends to celebrate independence day! Beautiful place, amazing and friendly staff! Yummy food! And sooo sweet of them to serve us complimentary lindtchocodosa! Amazing gesture by all the staff! Will surely recommend to everyone!
The food was delicious and flavourful,
the atmosphere was pleasant and soft indian music completed the ambience to my satisfaction.
The menu was very extensive, with equal amount of options for meat, vegetarian and vegan dishes.
We ordered non-vegetarian for 2 and it was a feast!
A dessert choice was also included. Server asked us for the desired level of spice
and the dishes had just the right amount of heat. It was a very enjoyable dining experience.
It has the best Chicken 65 Biriyani and Sichuan noodles weāve eaten, and the $1 dosas are great
Loved the food ... Specially dosas and biryani it was my favourite was delicious . We tried chicken 65 biryani and chicken dosa ... They r just super .... I visited with my friends next time I will come with family . The hospitality is awesome . service is superb Will keep on visiting . thank u
loved the food and most importantly the Environmentļæ½ Customer service was excellent, didnāt have to wait for food.. 100% fresh food with great deals.
I have been a Dosa Hut regular since this oasis of goodness first opened several years ago. I started with dosas but soon got stuck on the fragrant, restorative biryanis, wrangling with the goat or chicken decision and incapable of straying from this glorious item. Until this Ramadan, when I was tempted into the sensation of Haleem, a flavour I think I have been searching for my whole lifetime. I returned a week later for some more and managed again to resist biryani by also ordering schezwan fried noodles, a dish I had often ogled on the table of others. What a great decision! This Indo Chinese dish absolutely rocks! Thank you so much, Dosa Hut!
Loved my first experience here at this joint. PK looked after my friends and I and am definitely coming back!
You know you've got to the right street if you're craving for indian food as there is so many to choose from.
We tried Dosa Hut and had the briyani, garlic naan, butter chicken and they were really yummy.
The staff is really friendly and the service is good here.
This is just the place for warm comfort food that leave you with the feeling of being home.We went back here again a second time and can't wait to add this to our list of restaurants to frequent. The south indian food is as lip smacking as the north indian food.We are in love with their soft dosas , tandoori roti, butter naan, paneer butter masala and gobi 65...more reviews when we are done trying out their entire menu!..This place is highly recommended with friendly and thoughtful staff..we went there with our 12 month old toddler and the staff made it very comfortable for us!So guys please check out this place!
Itās casual relaxed ambiance. We ordered goat biryani as main, ginger chicken, crispy goat, gobi manchurian, chicken 65 as entre. The food was delicious and flavourful. The service was good. It was overall a nice evening with 5 friends and good food.
Great sour Indian food. My favourite is chicken biryani. Extremely fast service and with customer service team. Also loved the 70mm dosa. Must go place
Easy to book via Dimmi
Heaps of street parking but keep an eye on the time
Lots of options
A range of dosas (thin paper pancakes),Dosa sets (thicker pancakes), uttapam (double the thickness with toppings), idli (round steamed rice and lentil dish), wada, Chinese Indian options (noodles and stir fry) and biryani
We wanted to try something different as Masala dosa and chicken or lamb biryanis are common
We had the combination dosa with a filling of paneer lamb chicken and potato
It came with a side of two chutneys and sambar
Delicious and very satisfying
The potatoes were well flavoured
We had the chicken 65 biryani
Very unique
Well cooked marinated chicken in a sweet and spicy sauce mingled with basmati rice served with yoghurt and chutney
Spent only 15 per person and we were very full
My score 4 stars.Ā J & I had a late Saturday lunch at DH WF in early Aug.Ā Quirky interior was interesting & looked comfortable & ālived inā.Ā Ambience was good & the place was full of people ā always a good sign so far past the lunch rush.Ā Staff were plentiful & friendly - we were seated & given a bottle of water (& paper cups) promptly. Ā Never had dosas before, so didnāt know what exactly to expect.Ā Number of dishes available is huge, so menu is a bit overwhelming & not very descriptive (if it was it would be 10 pages long)!Ā We had a Vego biryani & Chef's special dosa.Ā The dosa had 4 fillings (2 vego/2 meat) which blended into each other slightly & made it hard for J to avoid the meaty bits.Ā It came with 3 dipping sauces - a red spicy one which was too vinegary IMO, a cooling creamy one (nice) & a veg curry/dal-like one (the best - J agreed).Ā I liked the dish, but didnāt think it was terribly filling ā maybe better to come mid-week & add their $1 dosa.Ā The biryani was good & more filling than the dosa.Ā From reading previous reviews, we probably should have tried the samosas too.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to dine at Dosa Hut in Footscray. A chain store of authentic South Indian cuisine in Melbourne and now in other states too. The staff curated a variety of Indo-Chinese and South Indian dishes to try. They were all really tasty and filling. My highlights were the crispy goat and the samosas. We definitely had more than enough food and drinks for the two of us and left very satisfied.

Really impressed with the amount of flavour in the delicious dishes we ordered at Dosa Hut in West Footscray. The two highlights were the Crispy Goat and the Chefās Special Dosa. The Crispy Goat which the staff recommended, was like nothing I had eaten before. A delicious salty, savoury coating, crispy yet at the same time melt in your mouth delicious. The Chefās Special Dosa came with paneer, masala, chicken and lamb, so you could try a bit of everything with the lovely light, freshly cooked dosa. Will definitely return!!
Dosa Hut is a great little Indian eatery in West Footscray. Service is super attentive and friendly. Menu is extensive and can cater for all tastes. Food is reasonably priced and full of flavour. Some of the best dosa Iāve had in Melbourne!. Loved these light and crispy puri full of a tasty sauce. Great start to the meal!
We ordered Goat Biryani, Schezwan Fried Rice and Chilli Chicken. Biryani was satisfactory but we loved fried rice and chicken. This restaurant is perfect for Indianized Chinese dishes šš¼
We had lunch at Dosa Hut today. I had the plain dosa ($5.95) and a mango lassi, my mate had chicken dosa ($12.95) and a mango lassi. My meal was nice, though something was missing- i wish there was a description of each meal so that I knew the range of options- wish I had chosen something with cottage cheese. My lassi was okay, but i always find that they are not quite cold enough. My mate enjoyed her meal, but it was a tad too spicy while the lassi was too sweet for her. We both found a couple of short hairs in our dish- but we both say 'extra protein'.
Iām a regular to this place because of its epic dish ,The Hyderabadi biryani quality and taste. Today I tried masala dosa, goat biryani and Masala Chai.
The food was really yummy and spicy, just right to my taste. Would like to specially mention on the masala tea - it was filled with traditonal Indian spices like Cardamom, ginger etc.
Ambience was also pleasant and relaxing. This place is always crowded which shows its popularity and demandš
Hard to get good Dosa in Melbourne but this is good. I'd just get the classic two curry, rice, roti but you can get other good stuff too. Hard to get Southern Indian food in Melbourne andĀ I suggest to travel out to Footscray for this place.
As you would expect, Dosa Hut does some excellent, well, dosas! They are generously filled and we particularly enjoyed the chefās special which allowed us to sample four different fillings!
The biryani was also excellent - it was oh so flavourful - each bite was incredibly flavourful and the meat was well seasoned.
There was no way to end except to enjoy one more dosa - this time one filled with chocolate and topped with cashews!

Rated as the best Indian restaurant in Yarraville & the Maribyrnong area, we were excited. I do really like Indian food.Ā Located on a strip we spotted at least 3 places offering dosa, though this one was definitelyĀ the most popular. Arriving for dinner at 7.30pm the line was almost out the door for takeaway.
My partner and I were invited to dine at Dosa Hut, it was nice to try something different as our usual haunt is a few doors down.
The staff there were really hospital and generous, I let them decide what to order. We started with 4 different types of entreeās, to be honest, after all the entreeās I was full already. My partner and I really enjoyed the chicken, we also tried goat, fried cheese and one other delicate yoghurt filled pastry.
Our mains came quickly after, we had the chicken filled dosa - delicious! Slightly too salty for me, but I still really enjoyed the flavours, we were also presented with a lamb bryiani. this was probably my favourite dish of the night. Light fluffy basmati rice with softly stewed lamb hidden underneath.
Definitely worth a visit if youāre in the area, great option in the West if you are looking for something tasty and affordable.
then look no further then Dosa Hut. Whilst there are a number of Dosa Hut venues around town, on this occasionĀ we attended the West Footscray venue. With a no. frills, relaxed kind of vibe (think paper cups and cutlery in tins), the service at Dosa Hut in West Footscray is incredibly helpful and friendly, and the food off their extensive menu (it will take you at least 5 minutes to make your way through it!) is inexpensive but still incredibly fresh, vibrant and delicious.
I was invited by an Indian friend to come here. Really nice restaurant. we tried several dishes, they are really nice. Especially the chicken, juicy and fresh. Good place to try.
Awesome food and the best part is the options you get here, they have huge number of Dosa varieties from simple plain dosa to chicken and lamb dosa. They serve very nice mango lassi. And also the Indian version of Chinese food. We tried there utpam, chicken dosa, Crispy corn, mango lassi, rava masala dosa, pav bhaaji and the food was too good. Good work guys keep it up.service is good and price too reasonable.

Dosa hit has always been a bit of a hit and miss when it comes to food that is not Biryani or dosa , which is disappointing because the menu has so much more to offer.
In my quest to find my next favourite from the menu I had ordered this indo-Chinese triple noodles. The noodles were undercooked and the Manchuria was cold. The staff were cooperative to help but they felt the need to try the food in front of me at the table to see if I was right. Nonetheless they replaced my meal and the noodles was not cooked the second time around too.
I am sure they have some good food other than what they are famous for but on this day i didnāt find my new favourite.
The West Footscray branch is a lot smaller but more intimate than the CBD store. Itās located at the corner of the Indian strip of Barkly st where there are a number of Indian restaurants and groceries shops close to each other and it felt like Little India. Dosa Hut has star lighting against black ceiling and it felt like dining under the stars which was quite magical! Thereās so many dosa options on the menu and it is difficult to make a decision. Itās table service and youākL be given a paper to write your menu item. We picked the goat byrani and dosa special with mango lassi. The food is packed with flavour and taste authentic southern Indian! Price is very reasonable too. Definitely will come back to try the other dosa!
Excellent fresh Indian food. Love it. Highly recommend trying this place. Only suggestion would be for them to explain in English what the menu items are
Great food. Awesome service. Brilliant atmosphere. Will surely go back there for more. Tried biriyani (chicken 65 and lamb). Also tried Szechuan Fried Rice and Noodles on another occasion. Enjoyed eating there.
I ordered one spicy vegetarian biryani & one samosa. The biryani was amazingly spicy, i was crying & feeling happy at the same time. The serving for the biryani was generous. The samosa was freshly made. I love this dosa hut..
Similar menu to the shop in the city, but different specials.
Nicer seating area, better service.
Sambar idly, vadai are good appetisers before you dig into a dosa or two.
Six years ago I had a Biryani here and it was awful, which made me not eat here until now. Recently, I noticed them expanding and receiving quite a positive acclaim. So, last month, I tried their Chicken Biryani, Goat Biryani and 70mm Dosa; and they all blew me away. The taste (especially Biryanis) is top-notch, the service has improved a lot and the quantity will make you sleepy afterwards. Unlike other Indian joints, the decor is well-thought and plates are big & heavy (copper-based); why I'm mentioning this because I dislike the idea of those light steel plates with separate compartments for curries (makes you feel like you are dining in a prison). People were also devouring their Indo-Chinese dishes but being a Biryani-fan, I couldn't but resist ordering the same dish (why not - if something is consistently so good). On weekdays, this awesome Biryani and a can of Coke is just $9.90 - now how can you beat that!!!
Decided to check this place out and had a great meal. Very tasty and the staff are also friendly I would recommend if you like your food spicy. We have the dosa which was yummy. The chicken 65 and Hyderabadi chicken biryani which were both very tasty. The food was cooked and delivered quick
Dosa hut serves one of the best dosas in Melbourne and they have got a lot of veggie options as well. Good customer service and moderate pricing.
Came here with friends who highly recommended this joint as the place to try dosa for the first time. We also got a biryani to fill us up. Flavours were very good, proven by the amount of Indian customers in at the same time as us (always a good sign) but what's lost points is the service. They gave the 4 of us just 1 menu although I saw a whole stack on the counter, they didn't provide us with extra cutlery to eat with and flagging staff down took a while. Also be prepared to have your clothes smelling like what you've just eaten all day long.
Been eating here since they opened and they still are the best. The staff are anyways friendly and Anil takes constructive critism on board. Proud of the success with the other chain stores and ate recently at Tarneit and it was amazing and the decor was beautiful. My only suggestion is that the food should all be served together. Sometimes the dishes come one at a time.
Busy restaurant but was able to serve us in time. Not impressed much with Pav Bhaji as Pav was hardly cooked and Bhaji tasted like some potato curry.
Paneer Dosa was an amazing choice and we loved it. Same goes with mango lassi.
It's worth Traveling to there
Staff friendly
Its packed every night
The roti dosci yum
A lot better than the King St one
I have noticed that if you go to a Indian food shop u r treated very different good work guys
Positive foods will be going back

Far from the very pedestrian curries that most Indian joints serve up, Dosa Hut provides Melbourne a taste of the lesser-known, but arguably more delicious Southern Indian cuisine. Not only was the food executed to a high standard, but it was also satisfying and very affordable.
For anyone looking to excite their tastebuds, Dosa Hut is the place to visit to satisfy those cravings.
You can not go wrong at dosa hut. Cheap and quick awesome quality southern Indian. Huge array of dosa - try the chicken noodles with a lassi - yum
Popular Indian restaurant with some Chinese influence amongst the menu. Dosa very tasty as well as chicken noodles. Busy but quick takeaway service as well. Plenty of Indian options in the nearby area.
Dosa Hut @Footscray
*A warm, compact diner in Footscray
*Nice menu options
*The $1 menu is a tempting offer!
*The service was warm, friendly and nice
*The food?
Good, to the threshold of excellence, depends on personal judgement!
I would rate the 2 items I chose, as close to excellent. But why? It wasn't warm enough for my standards (not expecting it to be super-fresh), but yes, it was fresh and mostly spot on. For an example, I've had the most flavorful, outstanding masala dosas ever, elsewhere. It's just that - relatively speaking.
I chose "Kanchipuram Idli" and the $1 dosa, both of South Indian origin. The K. Idli was spot on (See pictures!). Just that I have had better options of the same, so you'd say, am spoilt for flavor, freshness, and choices. That being said, they seem to specialize in the normal "Indian money-spinners", as any other Indian restaurant in town does. I found the Wyndham Vale Dosa Hut offering some nice options, too...
Verdict?Overall, a good to great choice for some quality South Indian. Would prefer them served, at least warm. Like I said, I've had the best South Indian .....then again, flavor lies in the senses of the Zomato blogger!
So many dosa options! And all the ones we tried were great! Spicy, authentic flavours, excellently done biryani and some not too sweet mango lassi to top things off.
The restaurant is in a fairly small space though the tables are placed well to accommodate. Staff are courteous and humble, always ready to assist. Highly recommended!
Dosa Hut@Footscray... never fails to delight my taste buds.
Every time we go it's always a pleasure. Great deals n absolute value for money. Unbelievable $1 plain dosas n lolly pop chicken. Idly very soft and sambhar very tasty.kids will love it. Refreshing mango lassis n tasty Dum Biryanis.
Indo-Chinese dishes are also good. Give it a shot.Highly recommended. The only drawback might be that you have to wait sometimes... but that happens when you go to a good restaurant.
Really a very cheap eat place, the staff are quite reserved and shy ....very humble. We ordered a few small dishes which really were gigantic. You will see on the menu 70mm dosa, it's enough for 2 people but if you are a big eater, you will smash it. We ordered the massala dosa, it has potatoes, bay leaves and herds. It has an abundance of flavour and comes on a metal tray with small dishes of accompanying sauces/curry/pickles. We also ordered the massala chai and ended up having 2 each. We ordered some Samosa, but they were sold out.
When we were on way out we saw some in the bay marine. See photo. We asked the cashier who said we only serves them fresh and these just came out. As gluten's we bought two for the road and I tell you what, they were perhaps the best we have eaten "ever" vegetarian Samosa with a burst of flavours that saw us eating them in the car with crumbs everywhere, laughing like school kids being naughty.
This is a tiny place, full of locals with a feeling you are in another country. Try it you won't be disappointed and if your a vegetarian, it will be a joy.
OK so I went back the next day and had the 3 curries and unlimited roti bread.
Such nice people here.
Yummy food.staff was so friendly.quick service..Best south indian restaurant in melbourne..chk 65 and chicken biryani amazing..last but not least amazing lassi..love dosa..
I've lost count of the number of times I've eaten here. The range of Dosa's is superb, and the egg dosa is a particular favourite, along with dry Mushroom Manchurian and Gobi 65. The veg biriyani is pretty yummy too, although watch out for the chili- you really don't want to chew it accidentally. Wash everything down with a mango lassi and you have the perfect night out in West Footscray.
Been here umpteen times for their Briyani. I love their lamb and their chicken ones. Tried the Dosa but dun think I fancy it as much as the chicken or lamb biryani.Ā
The Mango lassi was nice and creamy. I find the biryani very flavourful and fragrant , due to the generous amount of spices the chef has provided. The meat is well marinated and rice flavoured just nice. tried their chicken 65 but find that it is a bit too starchy and not much meat given.Ā
Good place to come over for a delicious meal of biryani. Kudos to that authentic tasting biryani.
Saw it round the corner and made an impromptu plan to eat there.
I did have quite a decent experience compared to some of the bad reviews people had put.
Please do not go by the number of pieces of idli/vada mentioned. Sizes are deceiveing and it is more like a snack than a mini meal.
Dosa werenot bad. Would definitely visit incase of a South Indian craving.
Had tried the chicken dum biryani which surprisingly was very tasty and more than what I expected and since then been a frequent and loyal visitor of this outlet. The staff at times looks over stressed but would meet n greet you with a smile. A good place to share your lunch and dinner. Though, i felt the dosa menu was a bit heavy on the pocket as the biryani and dosa are the same for the owners. Dosa, however do not feel fresh at times but they have mamaged to nail the biryani.
Great value for delicious Briyani. I come here when starving and on a budget. Chicken Briyani is a must here. Service is so so. Definitely reflects the price of the menu
Had a wonderful late dinner tonight at Dosa Hut, where we tried dosa for the first time and were definitely not disappointed. We tried the palak paneer (spinach and cheese) dosa, butter chicken dosa, and chicken biryani, which were all lovely. They offer a huge variety of dosas which we are more than eager to try on our next visit. Casual, local, and affordable. We'll be back time and time again.
Tasty and affordable food! As the name suggests, their dosas are their speciality but do give the Indo Chinese menu a shot too. I tried the chilli Gobi which was crispy on the outside and soft cauliflower in the inside, marinated in sweet and sour spices. I've tried their chaats, both times I was disappointed. The service is fast but a little sloppy. Gets really busy on the weekend, I've seen lines out the door. Overall, a good place and cheap eat.
Best place to enjoy "Dosa" Indian type of food of crispy crepes roll with three types of sauces. You can have it filled with various options. Our favourite for Dosa are "Masala" (spiced mash potato) or Lamb.
Kohlbi is also great option for vegetarian dish. It's fried battered cauli flower. If you cannot eat spicy food, make sure you ask them to make it mild or not spicy at all. They are hot spicy.
this place is always packed, so its always good to go early when they open. I've always given the chicken biryani and mysore dosa a go as they do them very well. the biryani is very authentic and spicy and the mysore dosa is cooked well - crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. the only let down is the service and the decor is ordinary, but its not why i visit, its for the food
Its a small place which is always crowded.
the biryanis here are very good
Recently had Egg 65 biryani,as the name its very extraordinary!!
Mutton and chicken biryanis are always good!!
Best discovery ever of South Indian food!! Their variety of dosa amazes me and their dosa is really really good.. So many to be try and am planning what to order for my next trip. Hubby loves their vada and goat Briyani.. We order other snacks too but our eyes were way too big for our tummy.. I would recommend this place to anyone..
The food is really good. The space is cramped though. The food is so good that I can only take away 0.5 out of the rating.
The dosa was really well done, soft and a little crunchy. Pretty good for $8!
I'll be coming back here again...
The OG Kush of Dosa restaurants in Melb! I tried the chicken 65 dosa the other day and damn it's goooood! The Gobi Manchurian here is sick and also the Biryani here is EPIC and MASSIVE, like feed all your homies for the next week massive. If you craving to burn up a fat dosa then this is the place to do it!
Recently, I discovered Dosa Hut in West Footscray which specialises in delicious dosa's, a type of Indian street food, as well as many other South Indian and Chinese-Indian flavours. We visited on a Saturday afternoon, and saw that the restaurant was packed with people of Indian descent, many of whom appeared to be relishing their dishes - a promising sign of things to come!
As far as biryani places go, these guys ROCK. Their chicken dum biryani is to die for and has a cardamon nuance along with a spicy tasty base that flavours the tenderly cooked chicken and basmati rice. Accompanied by a masala dosa and 2 mango lassi's which were thick and fruity tasting, 2 people were stuffed for the princely sum of $28....good food, cheap. Top cheap eat!
Amazing Indian food! Cheap, fast and yet yummy! The thosai is one of the best I've tried in Melb.
Chicken 65 briyani would always be my first choice. Chicken is moist, slight spicy and goes so well with the rice. And the raw onions? When it's mixed with the chicken, it just gives this dish a whole new twist. Just be prepared with some mints!
Samosas are generous with filling and is an awesome entree.
Service is hit and miss, depending on which floor staff are working. I once had to repeat my order 3 times to 2 different individuals because the 1st girl (even after I've repeated my order twice) could not understand me. Having said that, the 2nd girl that served us was sincerely apologetic. So, all good :)
I love chicken 65!!!!!!! This place does everything with chicken 65. Food bit oily but once a week I'm up for it . Staff is very rude but understandable when 100 people comes in an hr . Just put little smile on your face though we understand your pressure. Smile it makes you beautiful.
Excellent cheap Indian. Famous for its Goat Biryan and it lives up to expectations. Service is warm but the meals came out at different times. Although it doesn't bother me as you're getting some of the best value Indian in town.
Cheap and cheerful Indian food. You won't be disappointed! Their servings are generous and prices are very reasonable. We have tried their goat biryani, chicken biryani and dosas. All of which were delicious and satisfying!
Worth a drive. Large families, laughing kids, crying babies, booming take-away trade and we had to wait (a couple of minutes only) for a table AND it was 3:30pm on a Sunday. Easy to see why: great food. Fresh, tasty and oh so filling. Dosas a plenty, birrianis, curries and even Indian versions of Chinese and Malay foods. What we had was delicious what others had looked even better!
Not romantic, not quiet, not a special event, not unless all you care about is the food.
Every Monday to Friday 12pm to 3pm, Dosa Hut are offering Gastrology readers a special price on their Biriyani/Noodle/Rice + Can Drink set. Usually $14, if you mention Gastrology, you'll only pay $9.95 for the set.
Best goat biryani!!!!!
I go there everyday to have their biryani, its authentic dum biryani from hyderabad, the staff is really good too!! Must have
First time dining in - really enjoyed the meal! Masala dosa was amazing, chutneys were super yummy and had chicken 65 as an entree to share.
Will definitely come next time to try chicken biryani š
The waitress was really friendly and helpful with our orderš
Fast service and the taste was on point. Made online booking and was confirmed. Good customer service.
We had the most amazing Indian food at this place! I couldn't believe how friendly the staff were. The atmosphere was great.
After a long hiatus, Dosa Hut is back!!!! I had chicken 65 biryani, it doesn't disappoint.
This is the iconic place where all the indian population in footscray goes to. I love their food!
Food was fabulous. Great service. We enjoyed the environment too much!! Staff was very friendly and helpful!! Will definitely be back and will recommend all of our knowns as well!!! Awesome dining experience!! Love you guys!!!
Great customer service. The food was good.
This branch on Barkly St in West Footscray is one of many outlets of this chain of Indian restaurants. The place is clean and unassuming. Parking onstreet can be a challenge particularly during dinner time. Good spread available from their menu. This time we ordered gobi briyani with samosa chat as entree. Both are tasty. Service is friendly although during to the busy dinner time, they are stretched and we have to get their attention.
