Yummy exotic Ethiopian cuisine

Injera and all it's trimmings 😝
Another great Ethiopian Restaurant. Like most of the Ethiopian restaurants we've tried (and we've tried quite a lot) in Melbourne, Kokeb is pretty good. I ordered the spicy lamb tibs and it was very nice. Not too spicy but just hot enough. The spice flavours were out of this world. My wife ordered the Kitfo (steak tartare with butter & spices). It looked like cat food but I think that's just the nature of raw minced meat. My wife loved the flavours and eaten with the injera (the spongy bread), the kitfo was delicious. The restaurant was very small (only 5 tables in all total 20 chairs) but they do have a small live band on Saturday & Sunday nights.
The only real downer was we had booked a table for 1pm on a Sunday and when we got there, they were washing the floors and the owners thought we had booked for 6pm even though I rang them twice to confirm a 1pm booking. The floors were very slippery and with my wife & I both being disabled, it was a bit difficult so in future, just make sure the owners know exactly what time your booking is.
Despite all that, we would come back again as the staff were very friendly & the food nice.
Kokeb will appeal to those w.... Kokeb will appeal to the courageous amongst us who appreciate something a little left of centre. The food at Kokeb is anything but mainstream, but very tasty & fresh. Highly recommended and very well priced. BYO Wine is ok at $2.50pp.
