Review Carriage Cafe - Fremantle

In 1912, the idea of building a cafe in the Esplanade park full of Norfolk pines was fantastic. Today, this 109 years old Carriage Cafe is still serving the community. Amazing! This cafe has a splendid view of the park. Surrounding this cafe is a natural environment for wildlife mainly birds. The Carriage Cafe was built around a few century-old Norfolk pines, making it very unique in Perth. The environment is peaceful and beautiful. A nearby children playground is convenient for the family. The friendly staff brought me a cup of hot flat white in the cold morning. The hot deal was quiche. Fast sold items are fish cake and small sausage rolls. I have a wonderful morning here, and I appreciate what this cafe can give as another relaxation place in Freo. Enjoy!

One of my favourite cafes, it feels so chilled sitting here looking out at the beautiful park. The food is always delicious and the staff friendly. They have put in new furniture and decorations and it has a good vibe going. Roll on summer, it'll be a great place to be!

my first visit here early in the morn sun. ordered breakfast burger, price very reasonable,flavour outstanding ambience very peaceful .service very quick but it was early coffee looked fresh I'm coming back. also plenty of room parking nearby wheelchair friendly great spot cheers

Terrible and slow service, all we ordered was milkshakes and they took ages to arrive and were undrinkable.

Always liked this cafe, been going here for over 15 years.

Easiest place to get to, extremely disappointing service. Took ages to get our drinks then forgot our food.

Great coffee, food and what a surprise the acoustic musician was. Fabulous way to start a Saturday morning.

Lovely lunch, great location and friendly staff

Great location! Right next to the play grounds. I took away small sweet potato chips and kid sized fish and chips for about $13. The sweet potato chips was quite a generous serve for $4 but u fortunately the chips on the kids meal was not cooked through.

I quite enjoyed the Carriage Cafe. I ordered the breakfast tower, a latte and babychino. The food was delicious! Lovely hollandaise. The coffee was nice and the babychino was perfect temperature (too often they are made too hot). Nice location on the esplanade near the play equipment. Will definitely return.

Very expensive. Two coffees and a small muffin cost me $16.70<br/>Coffee is grinders, and not made very well. Which is a shame as location is great.

Under New Management. Carriage cafe use to be one of my favorite places until the new owners came in. The food has gone from delicous burgers and salads to very over priced toasted sandwiches and awful lasagna. Arent their enough Italian cafe's around Freo? <br/>The owner does nothing but walk around talking about how nice the place is now and how horrible the previous owners were. He doesnt help staff and looks clueless. What a shame.

Thank you very much. The pancakes were delicious and I loved the amount of maple syrup offered. Great location with the skate park behind for my brother to hangout. I like looking up.

Good point, Best Burger in Perth! We will be back for sure! Bad point, The thick shakes aren't very thick!

Best coffee hands down. I'm not sure how he makes it, but it's the best coffee I've tasted. <br/><br/>They only use Grinders in which I've had many times before, but it doesn't taste like this.<br/><br/>It is a little pricey @ $4.80, but hey this is Perth, apparently we're all wealthy miners.....not<br/><br/>Not to worry, I'll start saving for next months cuppa.

Ordered coffees and a snack for the kids. Wouldn't be able to tell you whether they were any good. Youngest took a sip of her babycino, spat it out, and was hysterical because it was way too hot for a child and seemed to have burnt her mouth. Not much sympathy from staff. Left and threw coffees in bin.

Pretty decent. Visited this cafe for brekky on Friday 21st Feb 2014 while attending a conference in Freo. Ordered the brekky mexican burrito with eggs. Was presented very well and the food tasted good too.<br/>Was impressed with the roasted red chilli on top of well cooked eggs!<br/>Only regret is their EFTPOS machine charges extra for card payments which I find frustrating about restaurants in Perth.

Nice. Ordered the open avocado sandwich. Quite tasty, staff friendly.

Very reasonably priced breakfast options and great coffee. Food arrived very quickly. Close to Esplanade Hotel, would come again for quick and well priced breakfast in Fremantle.

Stuff all staff, no eftpos & super basic menu. Not really matching with the cafe style pricing. Do yourself a favour and go to Gino,s

I'm allowed to ask. Food served to me and my lady was average. We felt awkward and almost like we were annoying the bloke when we questioned the buns for the choice between brown and white. Bit silly but I prefer brown or wholemeal. Simple, I'm the paying customer.<br/>Burgers were ok, but I wouldn't return.

Satisfied customer.. I had the morroccan chicken salad and my friend had the lentil burger. The chicken was tender and beautifully spiced and the lentil burger gave any of the other 'gourmet' burger places a run for their money. We went early afternoon and the setting in the park was delightful, of course you run the risk of interaction with a bird but its a small price to pay to be surrounded by trees rather than cars and busy streets. The coffee was beautiful and much cheaper than other freo cafe's. The staff were friendly and hospitable. I will definitely be back, with family, friends, or my dog.

Mum. Wow, Don't know what you guy's got but my family won't return here.<br/>Both the man and woman were grumpy and unfriendly towards us. The burgers we had were slapped together and bland. The salad was old and not fresh and in general this was a dissappointing experience.<br/>So many other places in Freo for my family to spend a $100 bucks on a lunch out.

Friendly staff, great coffee. Been coming here as our Sunday breakfast ritual for well over a year, can honestly say I've never been disappointed with the food. I would recommend a visit.

Disgusting tables. I went there on sunday and the first table we sat down at, I was pooped on twice by a bird then got up to move and realized that the seat had not been cleaned and it ruined my jeans. Then after paying the astonishing price for just a burger I was disappointed with what I got, as was my mother. You'd think for $14 for a 3 ingredient burger they would be able to pull it off, apparently not. Despite being so close to the sea they didn't have fresh fish in their burger, I would've been better off stopping at some chain restaurant on the way home. Would not dine there again.

Have been forgoing the awful coffee and bland free breakfasts at the esplanade to hop over to this wonderful cafe. The coffee is wonderful and the brekky roll scrumptious. Prefer to pay for a pleasant start to the day and the blokes working there are not hard on the eye either !

Really delicious burgers!

Shady, relaxed lunch - Outstanding. Had lunch here last week. <br/>There are really only a limited amount of places you can go and be comfortable and relaxed with 2 kids in toe in the heart of Freo these days and fortunately The Carriage is one of them!<br/>They had a lovely kids menu (including fairy bread!) and an excellent all day breakfast menu as well as burgers and snacks.<br/>My husband and I had the 'Old Smokey' burger. It came in a turkish bread roll with BBQ sauce and salad. The meat was really tasty, one of the best burgers I've ever had actually!<br/>Their coffee is outstanding, much better than you'd get down the pretentious and often crowded 'cappucino strip'.<br/>The best bit though was that the kids were welcome and when they were bored, could play on the grass of the Esplanade park and still be within our view - I'd never let them 'run free' along busy South Tce.<br/>The service was great - quick and polite.<br/>We'll be back, many many times I suspect :)

Nice old fashioned ice coffee, shame they removed the cushions whilst the kids were still sitting on them...

Friendly Carriage. Just had lunch here, ordered the carriage burger and a cappucino, the burger was one of the best i have had in Fremantle. Coffee was great, staff and service was friendly, will be returning for breakfast tomorrow.
