Review Cicerello's Fremantle - Fremantle

Marvin D
Dinner on a Sunday night to avoid the crowd, food was good as always, we ordered heaps but mainly were just there for the fish and chips and of course the view. Fish was fresh and chips were amazing ☺️
Cheryl Jones
Returned to Cicerello's for fish and chips with the family on a cold and rainy day. Very pleasant to be indoors out of the cold. It was extremely busy with no spare tables inside, but it was only a few minutes for a table to become free. The fish and chips were superb. Even my fussy eater grandson eagerly ate all of his. The scenery outside- harbour with boats and all the other old wooden buildings, the beach- just beautiful. Fast service- the food was on the table within 10 minutes of ordering. Friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere befitting a waterfront seafood restaurant, delicious fish and chips, superb chowder, good prices, unbeatable views. We'll be back.

"No.1 Fish & Chips in WA" is perhaps a bit of an overreach.... I had traditional battered Fish and chips and it was well, pretty much like most other traditional fish and chips I've had in the past. Hit the spot, nice thin crunchy batter, the fish flaked apart abit so seemed fresh.. albeit a little bit oily and if eating outside be prepared for a higher ratio of seagulls to people...
Julie Hinton
Great portions, great staff. I needed extra cups and plates and the staff was so helpful. Sauce was a bit manky but the rest was amazing.

Went here for lunch Saturday 5th March 2022, and I wish I took the reviews alot more serious. Very very disappointing, the photos look great don't they, well I can honestly say , it was not good at all. Not at all. I definitely won't be returning, the seafood chowder was yukkkkk, just like all the old crab meat and whatever seafood they could find was dumped in there, all of it was so over cooked as well as old and very bland tasting, the lobster was well and truly cooked to a rubber point, the fish was dry, old, stale tasting and horrible. The whole meal was just of waste of time and money. Won't be going there again.
Joshua Quirk
Haven’t been here for years, but thought I’d give it a crack again while the bro was in town (bringing back memories from when we were kids!). Really nice chips and such a good location. Super cool having all the different types of fish in the tanks too. The kids love working out which ones are which. Overall, a nice drop off in Freo .. good work cicerellos 🙌
Jair
Chips tasted better than fish😅 and sauce isn’t enough for meal. I don’t think it’s best fish and chips in WA. But it’s nice at price though.
Rene Hersbach
Went here for lunch today had the fish platter with lobster battered fish mussels and prawns. Food was good and it’s got a nice view over the boats.
Susan Loye
Went for tea last night very disappointed NO potato scallops I mean your a fish and chip place and you run out really disgusting we also went cause you had the best seafood chowder and again was totally disgusting it was watery and lots of celery won’t be rushing back there very very disappointed was the best place for seafood and now not good at all oh and was very oily
Sam Baylis
Thought a place that claims to have the ‘best fish n chips in WA’ would at least be good... literally the worst fish I’ve ever tried to force down.. couldn’t finish it.. what a waste of money.. for what you get the price is definitely not worth it.. not coming back and will be recommending friends/family go elsewhere.. disappointing..
John Gladwell
Average quality fish n chips, felt like the staff were rushed however weren’t even trying to organise a better work flow. Drinks weren’t really cold. It’s a help yourself type of dining experience at a high price. Won’t rush back or recommend my friends going there particularly as there are a lot better food outlets in the area. 2 stars
Lorena Forlani Rebeiro
We don't mind paying for good quality food.. and I know how hard it is in business... but today was such a disappointment... we ordered a seafood platter around $85... salty...nothing of qualitymulliesdon't know what fish I had but It was old like leatherI hate writing a bad review but lift up your game and give your customers good quality & good value food...

Worst meal ever ! Ordered prawns with no chilli said I was anaphylactic! Prawns with chilli arrived ... Sent them back to get the tiniest prawns ever in there shell . Staff did not careless ! One dim sim I buy in Victoria for $1 cost $3 .. Ridiculous!!! Never will I recommend !!
Kari Penny Zeena
Service was fast and meal was large. Can tell quality of fish by its colour. Didn’t have local fish. Cost nearly twice as much as my local fish and chip shop in Albany which offers local snapper.
Mary Russell
While the fish and chips were great it was disappointing to have to wipe down our own table. The ladies room was a disgrace. On the whole was not a great experience.

Came here on a Saturday night and had the family platter. It was good but the service was better. I reached home and found out that i had left my wallet at the restaurant. I called them to check if it was still there and it was:) so glad the employees were honest. Thank you so much:)
Frank Camarda
Ordered 2 of the big tasting plates. Half crayfish that was only 1/18th worth cut up and put back in the shell covered in mornay not asked for. Mussels not cooked or cleaned. 2 tiny rings of squid. All deep fried very disappointed. Most unedible had to go around the corner and get something else.. Not good enough when you spend over $100 on two meals
Janet Lilley
Fish & Chips were excellent, crispy, golden, yummy & a good size serving. A little expensive but well worth it
Cynthia Valentine Duggan
It use to be a good fish and chip resto but now we were there the other day and the chips were hard and the fish batter was awful , it wasn’t crispy. I don’t think I’ll go back there again sad.
Julie Barrington
After living all over the world it’s like coming home, great views, great food, laid back atmosphere and I’ve been coming here for over 50 years!!
Lisa Gledhill
Coped well with the busy night WA day and great spot to watch the fireworks. Alway my choice for fish n chips thanks guys!
Christian Ball
Share platter was amazing value. Loved it very busy but not much wait on mothers day
Kristel Gorembalem
Loved the pepper squid here! My always go to order❤️ It’s always fresh and I love the chips aswell.

Been to Cicerello’s on many occasions. The crumbed whiting with chips and coleslaw was great and is why I have given this review one star however over the years the dinning experience has progressively got worst and tonight was the one that one I could not let pass. The table we sat at was not clean and had to ask one of the staff to come and clean it. There was a rubbish bin right next to us inside the restaurant. Then the buzzer went off to collect my order and there was no forks. We started eating to avoid the food going cold then had to get up for the third time and get a fork. If I am to come back I expect some serious changes. Remove the rubbish bins from the inside of the restaurant. Improve hygiene by cleaning and wiping every table and have eating utensils readily available all of the time.

Location is good .view is superb.the banana cake tastes very good..

Cicerellos is consistent and never disappoints, really enjoyed the hoki fish and chips, loved that I could grab vinegar and chicken salt for the table.
Ricky Emilius
Cicerelo's been in Freo for a while, it's one of many fish n chips place I used to frequent during my uni days. It is now much nicer, well decorated and themed restaurant, the platter that we had was good, ordered another extra fish and chips, though quite expensive for overall amount, lobster was quite tough, chili mussel was quite good but not really the best. Still we enjoyed the fish and prawns they're really nice.
Antony
Been here with friends and family, tried fish and chips, chicken burger , chips, chicken Tikka pizza and more . Burger , pizza and fish chips was disssapointing didn't have good taste couldn't finish it . Only good thing is ambiance and the location of the restaurant
Matt
Pretty standard fish and chips. Price is alright taking into account the location. Can be quite busy at times given that its Freo. Plenty of tourist dining here.
Lunarcry
Taste was just ok. Nothing to rave about. Portions were small. You can get more generous servings for the same price from my local fish and chips shop.
Amanhasnoname
Its a touristy spot with touristy food. so obviously it will be a little different to our usual fish and chips shop.
If you are a tourist you will find it reasonable in comparison of the surrounding restaurants with hiked up prices for simple meals. you can get away with a 20$ meal where you will at least be full, maybe not fully satisfied but nonetheless full after walking around fremantle for an hour or two.

If you are a local, you might not like this place because well, its "touristy" so either accept the fact that it is and support it. or save your fish and chips appetite for your local fish and chips shop and do harm to yourself or these tourist fish and chips shops in the area. because seriously if we keep closing down our own restaurants, tourists will have nothing to visit or to eat.
Wonus Ng-Ong
HUGE portion of chilli mussels. Fish and chips were not bad fish held together and was not flaky. Prices a little on the high side as it is a bit of a touristy location. Overall a decent place for lunch if in Fremantle.
Rob Hagarty
As a local I think it's very embarrassing that this place has such a status as a 'must visit' place for tourists. To be honest, my local chippy's fish and chips taste far nicer and are half the price. Cicerellos is very disappointing these days considering many years ago it was a top spot for fish and chips. The prices are ridiculously expensive and the service average. The food is always overcooked and you only get small portions of the seafood and huge portions of chips. Don't even bother to try to afford the condiments or alcoholic drinks as these are sure to send you over budget. Extremely disappointing Cicerellos...lift you game!
Peasant From Perth
Went on Easter Monday, was quite busy and crowded. Service was pretty quick and got my food quickly. Order fish and chips and a seafood basket, both tasted quite decent. Would love to try the chilli crab and mussels next time.
Stuart Ives
The quintessential Fremantle Fish and Chippery. Charming old building with a well cared for aquarium. It IS more expensive than your suburban equivilant, sure. Today I paid $41 for what was a modest lunch for two, but it is always quality. The service is efficient and the staff usually very friendly. I’ve been coming here since I was very young and I’ll continue to until I’m very old. Never change Cicerello’s. Never change

Can you take home unfinished wine when purchased ancillary to a meal?

There appears to be some confusion among some licensees regarding the removal of unfinished wine from the premises when purchased ancillary to a meal. Essentially, a person who purchases a bottle of wine ancillary to a meal at a licensed venue is permitted to take the unconsumed portion of that wine away with them on completion of their meal.

For example: A person buys a bottle of wine at a local licensed venue where she has gone to eat. She only consumes one glass of wine with her meal. When she is ready to leave, she can lawfully take the unfinished bottle with her. However, this is only the case when customers purchase the liquor ancillary to a meal. For instance, if a person purchases a bottle of wine in a tavern or hotel without ordering a meal, they are not permitted to remove the unfinished portion from the premises.
Similarly, in licensed restaurants that are permitted to serve liquor without a meal (that is, the licensee holds a Liquor Without a Meal permit), a customer cannot remove the unfinished portion of the purchased wine unless they also bought a meal. This is because the Act states that unfinished liquor can only be removed from the premises when it is purchased ancillary to a meal.
For example: A person has half an hour to kill before catching his bus home. He enters a licensed venue and purchases a bottle of wine, of which he only consumes two glasses before having to leave. The law says he cannot take the remainder of the bottle with him when he leaves the venue.
However, if he had ordered a meal with his bottle, he would have been able to take the unfinished portion of wine with him.

And so GM (Rishi) from Cicerellos. Your promise to me was that you would refund me all my money if I was proven right. You showed me your interpretation of the RGL rules....but its wrong!!!! As many thousands of restaurant patrons to licensed premises will tell you around Perth and Australia.

Pretty sure lots of other people heard you.

That's $72. And next time don't make a scene in front of all the other customers. If what you're saying and doing is wrong (ie not allowing us the cap to our wine and remove the unfinished portion of wine) then be the bigger man and accept you're wrong.

And while I'm on this rant......I ordered a meal for one seafood platter with a side of snapper or barramundi.....the only fish Cicerello's said they had was Hoki. Strangely the person said if I ordered the premium fish and chip meal I'd get the snapper......but the snapper was available for $14 as a side......but apparently it wasn't available as a side, nor was the Barramundi. This restaurant's brand and fame is seafood....apparently???

The 'piece de resistance'.....within 2 mins of ordering my seafood platter, it was ready.....I suspect none of it was freshly cooked. It certainly didn't taste like it!!!! I suspect through this entire rant. people just want to know what the food was like.....it was sub standard and clearly not fresh.

As we left, we notice at least 3 tables of patrons at Kailis managed to keep the lids on their wines.

Suffice to say, this will be our last visit to Cicerellos Fremantle.

This is the where to go spot if you are looking for a good seafood in freo even perth. Always crowded which mean a lot people like it. The main thing about seafood is it freshness. And here it always turn up fresh. And good ambience. Located by the wharf is always an extra to eat seafood and looking at the sea at the same time. Taste of the foods are amazing. Several time goes there and the quality keep steady. As good as always
Alan Lee
Expensive for crap. Worse than a local fish and chip shop with double the price.
If this is the home of fish and chips as they state. Then the home needs to be demolished and a new one rebuilt. Even if the price was a third of what we paid, I would still be writing this the same way.
The fish tanks were ok to look at !
Zara Cavalot
Lovely day for fish and chips. It was very busy and despite the long wait to order, they did well to get the food out in good time. The tempura squid was tender yet a bit soft and not very flavourful. The chips were a great size and the fish was yummy! Would love to see mayo as a sauce option. The service and restroom cleanliness could be upheld better on busy days. Not a bad time.
Gdkf
Pricey but a freo institution!! Large variety that doesnt come cheap! Entertaining people watching stop-just be careful when ur stepping out with your trays of food cause those seagulls will swoop in to grab!
Ghada Akchir
we go there almost every month....last time we had lunch was very disappointing .......they increased their prices ,and lowered the quality ,,,,,they fool you with a huge portion of chips that are sooo dry and cheap quality......you could see all plates were left with huge portions of dry chips that were only good enough for seagulls.....most tables were dirty ,,and food was far below average considering the hefty price the charge......Kailis is not any better ..if it was not the location ,both them and Kailis are a rippoff and horrible food
Vina
Nice place to eat. Nice ambience but decent taste of fish and chips. The fish and calamary were fresh. Portion was big and enough to share for 2 people
Poe Wardoyo
Not sure what happened to this place but they no longer serve the best fish and chips (or even any other item on the menu). I don't think I'll recommend this place again.

We came to visit from Sydney and heard a lot about the seafood in Perth so we wanted give it a try at Cicerello’s. We ordered the squid, snapper, grilled fish, fish & chips and some sides. Unfortunately all of the fish was over cooked and was lacking in taste. The only dish that was ok was the Fish & Chips. We also enjoyed the side salads, potato cakes and dim sums. We wished we had had a better experience. The restaurant has a really cool fish tank though and great toilets.
F4fitfunfoodfly
We had snapper, barramundi, prawns and abalone. Fish was hot and flakey after coming out of the fryer. Abalone was chewy and oceanic in flavor. We were there late in evening so not as crowded.
MissFoodie
The fish and chips we ordered tasted average. As for the prawns, they tasted really good. However food here tends to be on the pricier side. My overall experience was so-so.
Leslie Yapi
My go to fish n chips when in Perth.
They are not the best but somehow i keep coming back, maybe its due to childhood memories.

But..
The SEAFOOD CHOWDER is perfect here!

Location wise, they are nicer than other fish n chips around.
Mr MM Smith
used to come here all the time as a kid but now that I don't live in Perth it's a one off, food was not bad, counter guy was a real lame dude, seagulls are not good, they swoop in and take your food, at the very least, put some kind of cloth over the outdoor area, it's not good.
Maria Euginia Felicia
Have been going to this place several times and service has been good, but today was very very disappointing the runner at the pick up station named “sebastian” was very rude to us when we asked for our food that we have waited for 30 min for 4 regular fish and chips and 1 squid. He then went on and said that we were blocking the way when we were well away from the keep clear sign. The manager saw us and started to get our food ready and when we got our food “ sebastian” went on to say to us “ don’t come back again”. Food at this place is very good but that server should be taught better and should know better as he had no right to say that for the business.
Wulan Sucipto
First time i come to Perth, everyone said you have come visit this restaurant and try their fish and chips if not than you haven’t been to Perth. Located in Freo near the beach make it a good place to hang around with your friends or family. The food serve quite fast and the taste is not too bad.
Sandy Do
A great location and a traditional must visit whenever i am down in Freo with my family. We ordered the seafood platter and chilli mussels. Food is pretty average but service is really quick. Good to not be bothered by seagulls too! The set up to order food and drinks is well sorted and easy.
Van Numbat
What’s the deal with the instantly melting ice cream? Tastes great but starts to melt immediately and is on your fingers before you have paid the bill. This has occurred to us a number of times in very mild weather.
Rachma Mctegg
Been here once 5 years ago, first time i stepped my feet in Australia and first time i tasted Australian fish&chips got recommendation by my friend who ever studied in Perth, she said this is the best fish&chips in town. Located close to the wharf in Freo i guess this is why this place so popular. fish&chips taste so so, fish a bit plain either the chips.
GlennM
Oh my god. This place is perhaps the most supremely disappointing place I have eaten at in Fremantle. After being told that the $16 fish and chips was frozen and from the east coast I upgraded to the $25 special. The restaurant feels like a school cafeteria from the 70s in need of a renovation, and the corral you go through to order is horrible. Then I was charged about $5 for a water, given a buzzer to wait for my food which is always classy, and served extremely average fish and chips. Oily and boring, plain batter and frozen chips. Take note of other fish and chip shops eg. hooked in Melbourne or hunky dory. Cheaper, better, friendlier, more interesting. I feel sorry for tourists who are expecting the best fish and chips in Fremantle only to be treated like saps and parted with their hard earned cash for an overwhelmingly disappointing experience. I urge people to check out Fremantle’s other amazing eateries like bread in common, Moore and Moore, holy smoke, duck duck Bruce, and many others all within a 5 minute walk of cicerellos. In short, don’t bother.
Affili.atewithfood
They're ok fish and chips...sonething tells me the Cicerello family doesn't own this anymore... It's gone up in price (at a strange incriment) and quality has gone down.
Foodie In Paradise
We came here for their fish and chips. The serving was quite big with massive amount of chips. I found the fish and chips very oily, felt sick after eating three quarter of it. The fish there used wasn't that fresh either.
Nice view and location. To me, it is really a tourist spot and not a place I would like to return anytime soon.
Sheera Brown
Seafood of your choice and more. Fish and chips is a given but why limit yourself so we had grilled mackerels/ sardines, clams and calamari. Had it by the harbour enjoying the view, careful that the birds do not swoop upon our meals. Nice ambiance, fast service, good food, a bit pricey though.
Lphpurple
The moment I saw the "natural" oyster, I thought the oyster had cancer. The colour is awful. The taste is bad.

Food is average. Price is average.
Mary Tan
Clam chowder was by far the most delicious items on the menu, however the the fish and chips and mussels were pretty average. Very touristy with a nice waterfront view (sit outside when the weather is nice!). Very busy on weekends.
DCnr
We had visitors and they wanted to try Cicerello's fish and chips since it was in the list of must-do for Perth. Sadly, it was really average, I've had better fish and chips at our local stores.
Chels Badger
For an obvious tourist attraction, this place does really great fish and chips. It deals with busy periods really well and you'll always get hot fish and chips!
FoodFirst
had the salt & pepper squid, barramundi and snapper fish. food was average and needed to go with more sauce, else it is a bit bland. weekends was packed but was not difficult to find a seat.
Jan
The seagulls here are a serious pest!
Saw one gull grab a whole fish off a lady's plate as she walked to her table with her food.

Disappointed with the huge bones left in my Snapper!
Going somewhere else next time I feel like fish & chips.
Avny
Hey food lovers,

Coming to Freo and not having fish and chips, is a bad idea. Beer battered fish and chips are so so yummy! We ordered two portions but ended up eating just one. Quantity is so so good especially for the price you pay & not to forget the amazing view of the sea 💙

Food 4.5/5
Ambiance 5/5
Kim Nicole Alexander
Me and my partner wanted something to eat after a long afternoon doing touristy things. I don't eat seafood so I ordered the beef burger, firstly it looked good (not sure why there was a random single pickle on top of the sauces) but as I got stuck in the roll was dry, stale like it wasn't fresh, the beef had some weird after taste to it, the chips were overcooked and weren't satisfying at all, i hate leaving food after I've paid 60 odd dollars for but I didn't want to finish It. My partner had the seafood plate to which he said it was really chewy and oily. I think he said the fish was 'ok' but he still ate it. This place was too overpriced for what you get! If it was tasty I wouldn't mind paying..I should of put the money towards the weekly shop than the 10 minutes experience I had at this place!

I came here last Sunday arvo with the family. We love coming here every couple months and for brunch. That day we ordered the family platter ($78) which came with sauces, coleslaw and a large soft drink to share and we also ordered the prawn pasta and mango white chocolate cheesecake.

Woah was the portion of the platter. We shared it between 4 people and couldn't manage to finish it. It was delicious. Only complaint is the pineapple fritter, it was really bad and the batter wasn't nice and crispy. The platter also came with a huge bag of chips which we could hardly dent. There was so much. Overall it was defiantly worth it.

The pasta I thought was okay (6/10) but my parents love it so we order it every time. And the cheesecake I thought was pretty good. It did lack some mango flavour and was on the sweet side. But I liked the combination with the white chocolate. Overall I think my family and I will continue to come here, we love the fish and chips and eating outside by the water.
Ruby
My mum and I think this place has best fish n chips in Perth! It's a great Family restaurant to dine on a Sunday afternoon.

Dining is indoor or outdoor...outdoor is nice and breezy, overlooking the water.

Pennae
It may be an institution and have a god view but locals agree that it's not as good as it used to be. High prices, average food, and a rushed feel - there's better to be found nearby. Leave it for the tourists.
Loni J
Does the job. Good location decent food. Marinated squid was definitely on point, some seagull control may be needed though as they are quite annoying
TheKnifeForkSpoonAndStraw
Probably one of the most known places in Freo! Have visited for decades and I'm sure will continue to for many more. Fantastic fishing boat harbour position and super relaxed cafeteria style seafood dining at a very reasonable price. If you are after fine dining do not come here, it's definitely family focused and hasn't ever really changed. (and we don't want it to either!) I usually order the 'Traditional fish and chips' and have never been disappointed, it's not brilliant but is always fresh and super hot when picked up. Definitely the place to visit for an inexpensive day out in Fremantle with the kids, let's hope it never changes!!
Foodie Loving Food, Food Loving Foodie
Decided to go back to Fremantle again to satisfy our seafood craving & if see we could get a better seafood experience than we did at Kailis! Alot of Zomato reviews in this area was hit & miss so it was really hard to decide where to go since Kailis seemed to get a higher rate. Settled on Cicerello's & ordered a variety of meals. Overall we found Cicerello's better than Kailis & price wise they are very similar. The taste & the way it was cooked was better. The variety is more restaurant standard, as oppose to fast food. Overall not a bad place to go to if you are in this area.
Casey
I visited on Saturday night and they were quite busy. I've lived in Perth my entire life so growing up my parents always took me here to eat in Fremantle. My boyfriend and I had a look around that area on where to eat for the best price. We got a tasting plate and regular fish and chips with tartar sauce. The tasting plate came out with cold and hot items. The fish was fresh, but the calamari was cold so it became chewy. I wanted chilli mussels, but when the dish came they were steamed with garlic and butter, which was very delicious. Overall we paid $57 with sauce and a bottle of soft drink. I think it's a bit expensive considering it wasn't all that great, but that's what all the other places approximately cost. We did look at the local shack outside area and next time I would try that.
Ashleigh Jayne
A pretty average restaurant, I prefer Mandurah to Fremantle. Staff are friendly but can be slow. Fish isn't as fresh as it should be. A lot of items are over cooked or over battered. They don't grill fish very well. Restaurant could be a lot cleaner
Ruben Esque
The fish was a disgrace. Not only is the fish imported on most of the menu items (and therefore possibly farmed), but it is also mostly frozen.
It self claims to be the No 1 fish restaurant in WA, while is this really means nothing, people may equate to being of the highest quality available in WA - SO NOT THE CASE!
When are restaurateurs going to offer Western Australians the quality seafood that we deserve from our coastline. All the great seafood is sent O/s and we get their awful seafood sent back to us!!!!
You are better off going to a Fremantle fish supplier to buy a whole Red Emperor and having it filleted all for approximately $35 and cooking it yourself in a Tempura batter - Divine!
Why can't our restaurants offer this to us?!!!!!!
The two plates of basic food cost $50 including one soft drink - it was very disappointing when it could be fantastic for about the same price.
Never again unless I hear that changes are going to take place.
Oh one last thing - the material used to fry the food is I think some kind of fat - it tastes awful. Try a first cold pressed WA olive oil.
Lady Marmalade
Went week night, 2 adults, 2 teens, $78 for a family platter, which can feed up to 5 people. Fish was good, seafood sticks good, prawns ok, calamari too spicy but nice, fish cakes awful awful awful, chips below par. You get a bottle of soft drink which you cannot change for a bottle of water. Includes 4 sauces and coleslaw too.

I waited until the next morning to leave this review because I was convinced I would have suffered food poisoning from the food I ate last night. It is a shame that one star is the lowest score available. Dined at Cicerello's last night. Granted it was a really hot day in Perth and everyone was dining outside for dinner, the restaurant was really busy. That's okay, you would think that the high food turnover would ensure that your meal was fresh. Not true. I ordered the tasting plate. The mussels were not cleaned properly, they all had their little fluffy beards still attached, the sardines were really bitter tasting and very brown inside (like they weren't cleaned properly), I'm sure the oyster wasn't really an oyster and the chips were cooked the day before... and the list goes on. Having just paid $75 for two meals, and still being hungry, I tried to purchase a couple of icecreams. Stood at the counter for a good 3 minutes waiting for service. There was a staff member on the other side of the counter, but never turned around to see the queue of people waiting. I just walked away. I believe Cicerello's had already robbed enough of my money that night. I've been coming for many years, but unfortunately after last nights experience (and the fear of salmonella) I will not be returning. It's a shame that last night many guests were unsuspecting tourists, and they deserve better in what is a prime tourist location.
Dpizzy
I found this place very over priced and the seafood and chips to be very oily. The view was nice. I think the prime location keeps them going as the food done nothing for me
Grant
Overpriced and very poor quality. This is not the Cicerello's of old: now just a tourist trap. Children's meal was especially awful, with the fish having a strange chemical taste. F&C at any local is better than here - won't be back
Freoninetyfive
Total rip off! Last night i ordered the prawn pasta which cost $25.00. The portion size was for a small child (even smaller than entree size) I complained and they wouldn't even put a little more on the plate. Left there hungry, and had to go buy take away food.

My friends & family all agreed the portion size was stingy. Cicerello's are all about greed. They should be ashamed of themselves. I't won't end here. I'll be hitting all social media and reviews with my disgust.
Michael Thompson
The good stuff, the location and the fish tanks. The price for very average fish and chips is too much, $15 for basic fish&chips. Its obvious you're paying a tourist and location surcharge. The fish is 'fresh ocean frozen', it all looks the part but isn't very tasty and the flesh is mushy. I did enjoy the chips though, love hot chips with chicken salt and vinegar
Pete
Ordered fish and chips, crab stick, pineapple fritter, 2 dipping sauces and a coleslaw. Coleslaw was dry and tasteless, fish was very oily and most importantly portion size has dropped. Cmon Cicerello's lift your game. I have been coming here for years and I must say I'm bitterly disappointed tonight........ Now I've had my whinge, I'm off for a kebab :(
SweetPoison
I haven't been to this place in ages as I never really rated the menu. Wow. Soo much has changed. Menu was fantastic and food was delicious. Def would go back. Lovely atmosphere on the water also.

I went to this restaurant for lunch with my friends upon their recommendation. I really had no clue what to expect from this restaurant. I'm not a seafood eater myself but my friends were so I went along with them. I'm not a fussy eater, so I didn't mind.

I can tell you the view beside this restaurant as you eat is wonderful. Its a very big restaurant and there is so much room downstairs and upstairs.

We ordered the deluxe seafood platter which came with local crayfish, natural oysters and grilled squid with chips. We also ordered the roman style roast chicken. Everything in the seafood platter tasted like it's meant to taste. The only thing which I loved from the seafood platter was the chilli mussels, crumbed fish and fish cutlets. The rest of it tasted alright to me. I wasn't a big fan of the prawns either. Yes the fish tastes fresh but nothing that blowed me away. Since my friends are avid seafood eaters, they loved it.

In saying that, the seafood platter is quite filling. There were three of us and we were absolutely full by the end of our meal. I've gotta say, I loved the Roman style chicken with the cous cous and dressing. The chicken was succulent and it had great flavour combination mixed with it. The dressing was a great compliment along with the chicken and cous cous. Every element worked well together. I really enjoyed eating this dish more than the seafood platter. Also the chips that came with the seafood platter tasted fresh and crunchy. It was good.

For drinks, I ordered the vanilla milkshake. It was good. Altogether our lunch costed us $163. I would never pay that much for a meal, it's because my friend was here from out of town and it was a special occasion for him he bought me lunch. But given the fish is fresh produce direct from the sea, it makes sense that the menu here is expensive. It's okay for a one time occasion if your with close family and friends but as a local I wouldnt come this place again just for a casual lunch. It's set in a tourist spot in fremantle so I understand the high rates. But not me, haha!

Overall a great place with a nice view to look at while eating lunch or dinner. Staff is friendly and the food comes out on time. As soon as we finished our meals, the staff were ready to take our plates and empty our table. You get these buzzers to let you know when your order is ready so this place has an efficient system on food orders. Also forks, spoons, tissues and plates are all available at your disposal. They are set out beside the counter and upstairs as well. It's a self serve area and organized properly. No trouble at all if your looking for cutlery and plates.

A great experience for me in trying so many variety in seafood which I have never tried in my life. So going to this restaurant is a good place to experience it for people who don't mind eating fresh seafood for the first time.

So didn't stop by for culinary excellence ! Got fish and chips, sat on the decking overlooking the fishing boats and kept one eye on the seagulls !! A little like eating fish and chips at the waterfront in Cape Town - not fantastic food but brilliant to just sit & waste some time ! Fish was greasy, chips were good - my brother decided on a sausage of some kind (in batter) so not sure about expectations here !! but couldn't eat it - too awful. Had a jolly time but wouldn't recommend if you looking for great food.

One of those tourists spots that you visit when visiting Fremantle. Glad we visited but I'm not sure if we will visit again. Fish and chips were serviceable, flake could have been better quality as it was a bit grey and not white all the way through.

Overpriced... and the fish and chips are awful. I am old enough to remember the real Ciccerollos 20-30 years ago when it was a smalll business making great fish and chips.... now it just looks like a fast food restaurant.
LittleAsianGirl
Family favourite for fish and chips with a view. Seems the chilli mussels portion has decreased from the last time I was here, tasted ok, would have been nicer if it had a bit more chilli. The fish and chips was still tasty, deep fried goodness. Food was ready in reasonable time frame.

It's a touristy place. I've been to some small fish and chips places who are better than them. Can't complain too much because it's a touristy place who has good view and nice location. The fish battered a little bit soggy, and the grilled seafood was just okay. Nothing much to say about this place. But I found a few years a go they taste better. The price is a bit too expensive. They charge $2 for a tiny container of sauces (tomato sauce, tartar, etc)
Laura_dawn89
Sunday mid arvo quick lunch with some girl friends ordered the tradional fish and chips! Good size for the value! Fish themselves were tasty! The batter was a bit too much! Cant say ill go back anytime soon

Best fish and chip in WA for sure! Fresh fish with wide variety of seafood at affordable price! Places always so crowded so may require a bit of waiting to get a seat. But once you get the seat, the order queue is actually quite fast as they can open up to 5 counters. You don't wait too long for the food to come either!

Loves the fish basket $21.95 but you get 2 large fish, squid rings, crabsticks and plenty of chips. I love the fish: soft, fresh and delicious! The only downside is the set comes with one small tartar sauce. More please!

Never had a bad experience here! Always a good choice for a lazy Sunday afternoon. Usually order the standard Fish and Chips ($15ish can't exactly remember) which is of decent size. Fish is always well cooked as well as the chips. Love the fact that a complimentary lemon wedge and tatare sauce comes with.

Plenty of seating inside and out but just be mindful you may have to battle with the seagulls (although not preventable since people continue to feed them).

Would return.

Best battered fish :) I had the gold band snapper, it was so fresh and perfectly lightly battered. The coleslaw was excellent as well. Thank you Cicerellos! I will be back!

We ordered the platter for 2 to share among 4 people and really enjoyed the good variety. The portion is huge. The oyster Kirkpatrick was good too.

The Aquariums are looking really shabby! The used to look well cared for maybe about 8 or so years ago, but the standard has dropped greatly. poor fish and sea creatures! I dont ever come here for the fish and chips because it is pretty terrible, but the ice cream at the cafe is pretty good. I think its home made, or that is to say, not totally mass produced. Lots of flavor variety and the fruit ones are not too artificially sweet

6-May, Our visit to Cicerello's was a terrible disaster. We should have taken a few hints from shopkeepers that hinted at other places to visit when we mentioned we were going to Cicerello's, but we persisted. The eatery looks very tired and in need of a serious uplift. The process for ordering is terrible and confusing and you can see tourist struggling. For a fish and chip mecca, you can't even get un-battered grilled fish unless you go for the Sardines as we did and they were the worst we've ever had! They weren't cleaned and had a terrible off-taste to them. We also had the mixed platter, it had an over cooked piece of tough fish, two tiny prawns, one cooked oyster that was completely burnt, a bowl of mussel's that weren't cleaned and again were over cooked and finally a stack of something seafood with a skewer through it. We basically left everything on the two plates and ate our order of chips as they were the only item worth eating on the table. Oh and if your game to try this place, eat inside otherwise the seagulls will be flapping all over you and the table as soon as you take your eye off them! Should have gone somewhere else.

Food is extremely overpriced.

Quality is very poor. We order premium fish and chips and 1 regular fish and chips. The fish had more grey meat which tasted yuk than white fleshy meat. The chips were a joke.
If your 2 main menu item are 1. Fish & 2. Chips. You need to at least get those right.

For me, this place need a new painting-Looks a bit tired. However, we love the aquarium inside. There are different creatures Inside.my son always excited to come to this place.
Cleanness - excellent, they always keep it neat and clean
Food-the chips that comes with grill squids were nice and crunchy..
But the chips that comes with fish and chips were soggy😓
The rest of the food was nice
Overall, it's still a nice experience for me. Will come back again to see the harbour and feed the fishes😊

Yuck yuck yuck.

Overpriced with low quality stuff. The chips was soggy. The fish wasnt fresh. It tastes like frozen fillet of fish. The dip was a bit weird. I think they were trying to be fancy with tartare by putting herbs (i think basil) in it and it just ruins everything.

Sigh
The Life Of A Designer
The infamous Fish and Chips restaurant in Perth! Literally every single tourists I've met always headed down here for the fish and chips! Well, I gotta say, Their fish and chips serve is huge, generous, tasty and also, not oily and/or soggy!
Dvk
Had fish and chips pack here ($15). The meal were delicious and we couldn't finish it all. Highly recommended for eating out when you're in Fremantle area.
LittleGirlBigFood
Fish and chips on the ocean. Or jazz it up slightly with some prawns! This is an old Freo fave! Big fan

Used to be a regular here several years ago, so was disappointed to find its gone so far down hill. Overpriced and probably the worst fish and chips I have ever had. Its a shame because it's an awesome spot, and great building. The fish batter was soft, really oily and left a horrible after taste (sign of cheap crap oil that can't be heated enough to seal the batter/chips before soaking in), and they use thin chips now instead of proper chips like they used to. Over $40 for a serve of fish n chips, s&p squid n chips, and two waters...walked away both thinking it a waste of $40.
Dimbleby
Why do I do this? Just deep fried. That's all there is to say. Oh yes and also overpriced. It's just fish and chips dropped into a deep pan of boiling oil. But I chose to come here. Again. So it's my own fault.

So we arrived at Fremantle on this Sunday. visited the Maritime Shipwreck Museum and as per the general consensus, lunch, Cicerellos or no other. First, the one and only empty table facing the harbour in the carnival like atmosphere quickly secured, then in the long-long queue spilling over till the entrance to opt between the line of food and drinks or from the wall menu. Thereafter paying and returning outside while carefully balancing the tray with the items.
Magoo
Very expensive fish and chips ($43 for two people). I had the chili squid which was nice, wife had hake which she said tasted like it was cooked on a dirty grill. The chips were average. The shop was crammed and attendants were pumping customers through. I have no idea why this place is so popular.
Wags Out West
I enjoy walking around the harbour in fremantle and used to stop at cicerellos a lot for a naughty but nice fish and chips.
I always ordered the hoki and chips as I prefer the soft white flaky hoki fish to (I'm not sure what) the standard non description fish. I like to know what I'm eating. The portions are fine but you have to pay extra for a small pot of condiment, Mayo, ketchup etc.
the restaurant is very canteen like and you grab your own drinks and sides as you shuffle along to pay at the counter where you're given a buzzing disk that will let you know when your order is ready, and when it is your food arrives on a plastic tray wrapped in paper.
Cicerellos is right on the boardwalk so you can sit outside on bench seats looking across the harbour which is very nice.
Cicerellos is just fine but for the price and quality I go around the corner to Sweet lips.
Polonypolony
It has Perth prices with a nice venue but cafeteria service. The fish is good if you buy the premium "fresh" fish. I ask "Has it ever been frozen?" whenever ordering "fresh" food. The good thing about the service level is that you can discretely bring your own beer, or bring your own wine as long as you buy some wine to get their wine glasses.

It’s a classic place to go to for fish and chips. There’s also another Cicerello’s in Mandurah. Again, I have not been back here for a while but from memory the fish has always been fresh and the chips are great. The batter to fish ratio is good and not super oily. It is however a bit pricier than other fish and chip places. Cicerello’s gets really busy but there are plenty of tables around. The aquarium is cool to look at to pass some time while waiting for your food or to entertain the kids if you have any. Not too sure if the food quality has gone down since my last visit.
Eugene Lu
I found this place horrible. It is the worst chips and wedges place I have ever tasted. When you eat the chips is soggy and has a foul after taste. Never going back there again.
Catfish
Yeah, look, it's expensive but i thought it was far better than when i last went 7-8 years back.Really fresh fish, great chips, really impressed.
EnjoyinGodsBlessing
It used to be really good.. But now is just mediocre, portion drastically gone smaller and expensive for just a fish and chips >.< sorry to say, the only reason to dine here is for the place/surrounding, go elsewhere if u r looking for a good fish n chips
Annee Kim
My family and I ordered a seafood platter and also a dozen oysters... the fish provided in the seafood platter were really nice however they were a bit too oily... Because the salad and the prawns were placed in the centre of the concaved-in plate, the oil from the fish contaminated the salad, prawns and lemon... the salad was not very pleasing but luckily we bought a coleslaw on the side...
I loved the oyster, they were really fresh and felt as if they were just fresh out of the ocean...
Overall, the seafood platter could have been better for the price tag on it. I will probably come back for the oyster but not the platter..
Nikita.civello93
Would NEVER go back!. Absolutely disgusted in the food here. It was so greasy that paper didnt even hold together. All you could taste was the oil! Wasnt even attempted to be drained! The skin was still under the batter of the fish. The food came pretty quickly but only because there was no effort to make the food look or taste good. Overpriced for what it is! The crab stick fell in half when I picked it up. Dont know how the restaurant won an award for best in WA! Definitely need to up your game to keep that name. Will never return! Sad that it was for a birthday with 16 people and everyone couldn't even finish the food. Not impressed.
Casey Spice
Quite enjoyed my meal here. The outside area is a great place to sit and eat on a nice day. The seafood was fresh and the chips were hot. A little pricey, but it's WA.

Expensive, $14 fish and chips which are lousy compared to your other suburbs.Yes Cicerellos has lost the plot. Portions are small, pathetic and they now include tartar sauce to make customers to absorb the cost of expiring sauces. You can go to Noramara Fish N Chip shop and get a snapper for under $8.Yes SNAPPER not hake.I will not be returning ever till prices drop back to $11 for basic fish and chips. Needless to say soft drinks were highly priced too. They have over spend on fish tanks and fancy toilets and brought the cost to customers. Very poor form. This used to be the best fish and chips now is just a tourist trap. You can see those reviews below me, taking familiy and friends to this place and spoil a local staple to be high end rubbish fish n chips. The owner seriously needs a wake up call, I do NOT give a toss about Kalis Bros priced the same either. Both of the stores including Joe's are ridiculously priced for a basic staple food. For goodness sake is just fish coated in batter and fried. NOTHING special, so $14 is a joke, excluding parking you may need to pay. BTW, I would given a rating of 5 10 years ago. The quality has dropped a lot since then.
Livaus
This is the place where I had my first fish and chips ever and where we usually take overseas visitors to experience a bit of Freo waterfront. Food is decent, and aquariums are excellent to entertain kids while waiting for food. Wider variety of "family value" meals would be great.
Amanda Perera
I can't comprehend why this is known as the "best fish and chips restaurant". I ordered the fish and chips to see what all this hype is about. My verdict is that the dish is good but it certainly does not justify the hype. We also ordered the chilli crabs and mussels which were delicious but quite wasteful as it was drowned in sauce that had to go to waste after we finished our meal. Overall, I found the seafood to be of top quality and they were quite generous with their portion sizes. The only downside is that their prices are way expensive and unjustified.
Jessy Stone
Apparently this is the best fish and chips in Australia.. it's definitely not. Their fish and chips are fine but not particularly noteworthy. What is impressive about Cicerello's are their large and numerous Aquariums! They're amazing and add a lot of vibe and ambiance to the place. If you are seated outside you look out over the harbour which is great. Overall an above average place to have pretty average fish and chips.
Daniel
Great location and the food is always good, if a little overpriced considering its diner like mentality. If your happy to line up to place your order, to pay before you eat it (at a price point as though your not lining up to order it), and then to collect your food when it's ready, then don't be put off.
Eat Live & B Happy
Over-rated. Very expensive for non fresh & little ingredients used. Food was oily. Thick batter, thin fish piece. Prawn pasta had few prawns that did not taste fresh so a consolation of not too many to eat? Margeritta Pizza had loads of cheese and little tomatoes. Seafood chowder was like thickened corn flour. A busy night -market atmosphere with a noisy ordering system that one would have experienced more poise when being served at Coles or Woolies cashier' counters. 1 point for outdoor setting, 1 point for lots of chips, 0.5 for self-served vinegar & salt. How is this the "best" fish & and chips in Perth? Good marketing strategy?
Foodlover
Food wasn't nice as it used to be. They don't use local fish any more. Food is expensive for what we got. Use to go there all the time every time we in Fremantle or Mandrurah.
