Bourbon and BBQ done right. $10 burgers on Fridays are the best in town. Fun little spot to hang out and enjoy the smokey goodness.

So what an awesome little place. Smoked Brisket was on point. Fries 🍟 where awesome and morish 😂 Burgers were great but the pulled Pork was over powered by the coleslaw e dressing. Bourbon 🥃 range was a killer in a good way. ☺ Drink list is great but not if your designated driver, maybe add a true Southern Sweet Tea. And staff were fantastic shout out to Ces. 🤗 Only annoying part was having to pay every time you went to order but understandable. Thank you for a great night.

The pulled pork was great and unique! Loved trying it! Fries and burgers were good too! The brisket was tasty like roast beef, which isn’t what I was hoping for in bbq brisket but good nonetheless except for it tasted like they used smoke flavor instead of actually smoking the brisket (I can’t confirm this but I worked in a Texas bbq restaurant in America and I’m preeeeetty sure about it). Again, it WAS tasty but not what I expected from a bbq brisket, so if you’re just looking for tasty meat, this is a good bet! Service was great and they were very accommodating to our very large group! Good place to check out!

Great experience all around. The chef knows his way around a smoker and turned out some really special dishes. Great value for what are time consuming meals that require a lot of prior preparation. Generous glasses of wine and friendly professional staff. Great little place with nice atmosphere to pop into for a small or large feed and a drink from their wide range served by a knowledgeable barman. Definitely a return job.

Maybe it was a quiet night, maybe it’s expectation not meeting outcome. This place could really be fun but the night we called in was like a wake. No atmosphere and it looked like everyone was waiting for closing time. Tried the buffalo wings which were good. Beer selection is a bit limited but if you like your whiskey/whisky your are in your element. Don’t think we will be back.

I don’t know why this place isn’t busier! The food is so good, great smoked meats, friendly staff, quick service and yummy cocktails. Absolutely recommend a visit.

My family and I went to this place as a high recommendation from a good friend on American Veteran’s day. Staff was friendly and the atmosphere was good. We ordered the pulled pork, brisket, fries, onion rings, and slaw. The pulled pork was terrible, and brisket was mediocre at best. Pulled pork was watery and extremely bland, and no sauce they offered could make it eatable! The brisket was slightly smoked, but very dry! The portions were ridiculously small for the price and quality of the main entree weren’t acceptable. The side dishes were very good, but I didn’t come for the sides, I came for BBQ! Being from America, we have been searching for a quality bbq place and this wasn’t it. All and all the experience was extremely disappointing, and we won’t be back!

Holy balls!!! Cannot recommend this place high enough.. the Philly cheese steak is no good if you're a lactose intolerant vegan.. for anyone other than that you'll be in meaty-cheese heaven... other than that you'll be having a cracking night drinking bourbon until your face melts. Champion bar staff and tip top service. Thanks for a great night guys!

The $10 cheeseburger and chips has got to be the best value in Fremantle on a Friday night!! Probably the best cheeseburger I’ve ever had!!! The thick cut pickles, thick, juicy beef patty and the melted cheese, so f$&king good!!! Thank you guys, you never disappoint with the food ��

Absolutely hands down the best BBQ ive eaten. I had the chilli cheese hush puppies, and from the pit i had both the brisket and pastrami and both were insanely tender, a generous smoke ring and a deep flavour that was damn near addictive. The drinks list is unique to say the least. In fact ive never seen such a collection of boutique and craft drinks anywhere! The custard and co cider was just perfect but the apple pie moonshine was out of this world. Sadly i must fly back to work, but only so i can afford my next visit!!! I will be back asap! And in the meantime everyone needs to experience this hidden gem. Dont know why i hadnt tried these guys sooner but now i know the answer anytime im asked what i want for dinner! Holy smokes!!!

Sen bloody sational, My first time there last night with a few mates and we absolutely loved it. From the decor, the cosy venue, the awesome drinks menu and some of the best North Carolina comfort food ever (smoked brisket, pulled pork sliders, loaded chips and so much more) and to top it of a two piece band playing some of the best toe tapping jazz I've ever heard. This place has it all and is now by far one of my favourite restaurants, can't wait to go back with the wife.

Fantastic food. Beautifully smoked and full of flavour. Wait staff were attentive and friendly, unphased by our fussy ten year old's requests. Would 110% recommend them

Went in for the first time today, service was good. The fried chicken Sliders were Amazing! The Chicken fried steak was below average at best, seemed like low quality steak, the greens were watery, generally bland and for $28 I was expecting a way better dish.

Just go one day and feel the vibe, eat the best brisket or fried chicken and have a bourbon from their extensive list. Worth checking out the live music too.

This place is awesome ! From the service , drink selections to the food and atmosphere where else can you chill out after work listening to country , eating and drinking USA beer and bbq

I like something different and that's what this venue is - great menu of drinks, haven't eaten there yet but the menu seems diverse and popular from what I've seen. I highly recommend Holy Smokes to conniseurs of alcohol.

Customer service last night was exceptional! Credit to your staff who went above and beyond. We had our dog with us and struggled to find many places that were dog friendly, your staff ensured he had a great time too while we enjoyed your delicious food. Keep up the great work

Great service, great range of alcohol from all over the world and to top off great meals. I'm definately telling my friends and family about this place.

Friendly, great atmosphere. Perfect margaritas and the pork ribs we all agreed were the best! We will return to try other temptations on the menu.

The food, service, ambience, friendly staff and everything else about Bonsai makes it an absolutely fabulous place. Great for an evening out with friends. The set menus offer very good value for an up scale restaurant at around $50 to 60$

Went in search of some great food only to be told that they couldn’t take orders because the kitchen had been busy and they didn’t know what food they had left. It was 7:00pm and we were simply told to sit and wait. Poor form

Almost everything we ordered was delicious. We were a group of 10 and had a very wide range of dishes on the table. Hush puppies were not that great unfortunately, but that is a minor criticism. Portion sizes are quite large so next time I'll need ordering more prudently. Alcohol prices are good and overall the place doesn't fail to impress.

Came here quite late on Friday and was surprised to find that they had live music playing! Has a very nice and cozy feel to the restaurant. Food was quite fast. <br/><br/>We ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, Mac and Cheese Balls and the Pork ribs, they were all excellent. The buttered greens were amazing and the home made BBQ sauce and slaw too. The mac and cheese balls were the best though. We tried the Hot Buttered Rum too and it was perfect for cold nights. Pork ribs were very tender and delicious and fell right off the bone. Though it was just a little too smokey for my liking. <br/><br/>The waitstaff were really nice and friendly too!<br/><br/>Overall, a great night and experience! Definitely coming back on Tuesday for Chicken and Waffle night<br/> <br/><br/>Edit: Came back for the chicken and waffle however it wasn't as good as we hoped it would be. The chicken was not very flavourful nor very crispy. The waffle was too soft and mushy as it has been drenched in syrup and piled under the wet buttered greens! The portions weren't as big as the other "small stuff" like the chicken fried steak (which is massive!)<br/><br/>You also had to get a drink with the deal (we later found out) as it was printed in very very small font at the bottom of the menu and we thought it was quite misleading. However, that gave us the opportunity to try the fresh apple and sour cherry featured drinks which were incredibly tasty. The fresh apple one was the better of the two. Very fresh, light and not very strong. The cherry sour was very yummy too (but we aren't super keen on whiskey - even then I'd say it was very good!) <br/><br/>Featured drinks = Must try!

Good tasty food, rich but not greasy as can be the case with bbq joints. Fast service and music on Friday nights. A good addition to the Freo food scene

First time trying this place was very impressed with the food American style with beautiful bold flavours!! I came here with my partner and ordered chicken and waffles, Mac and cheese croquettes, loaded fries, pear and walnut salad with blue cheese dressing and for dessert the smores all of the dishes were super tasty the highlight for me was the croquettes and the smores but loved the other dishes just as much :) it's a piece of heaven for guys as there are lots of delicious meat dishes and deep fried deliciousness but don't worry girls they have suitable stuff as well like the pear and walnut salad with the blue cheese sauce beautifully balanced all in all loved everything 😊

Casual relaxed bar with sunny alfresco seats tempted me to give this place a try. Service is at the bar and ordered the chicken and waffles, buttered greens and chilli maple dressing, and asked the bar tender for a recommendation of wine. He gave several suggestions and I went with his first, the Pinot Noir. He kindly gave me a sample to try first too, and it was a very good Pinot. My food didn’t take too long to come out. Chicken was succulent and the waffles were fluffy. They also gave me their house made BQ sauce which was a great accompaniment to the meal. Love the music they played and good place to people watch. Will definitely be back.

Very aptly named, this place blew me away with how good the food is. Somewhat pricey but worth it imo. Hands down the best pork ribs I've ever eaten. Unfortunately they don't take bookings so if it's busy, you're in for a wait. Huge range of booze on hand as well, with lots of local beers and spirits. Will definitely come back here multiple times.

I believe I'm Aussie by blood but American by heart and this place gets my American heart beating. They do American grub so well and it's really homely.

I've been to Holy Smokes several times now, have shamelessly tried almost everything on the menu, and have honestly never been disappointed. The food is so tasty and really reasonably priced, and there is a HUGE drink selection. Only thing I don't love is the staff (occasionally), but with fast, cheap and delicious food I'll always happily return.

I'm from Texas and this place has by far some of the best BBQ I've ever had! The sliders are perfection, and everything is so reasonably priced considering it's Perth. Have a great range of whiskeys and really good cocktails. Friday and Saturday nights live music which just sets the mood perfectly. Definitely a place to try out.. my bet is you go back for another round :)

I really loved this place , the food was good and reasonably priced. The only down side it is a bar so can be a little noisy, but didn't bother me to much.

Very very good, I've eaten BBQ all the way across the states and this joint shapes up like Barry hall against Brent Harvey in a fist fight. Not only is the food ridiculously yummy it's priced extremely well which is a rare beast. From the fried chook to the smoked brisket the flavour explodes in ya gob. Will definitely be returning to this fine establishment.

If I had a time machine I would go back in time half an hour so I had an empty belly and a full plate and I have another go if it. If there was a 10/10 rating they would get it.

Really good smokey ribs falling off the bones and the sliders were juicy, plenty of filling and wow! Great ambience with live music on Friday and Saturday and good selection of brews, sours and rum! Good work!

Relaxed atmosphere on a Thursday night. Really enjoyed the food, good choice of craft beer and whiskey. Will be back for sure. The house made BBQ and Chipotle sauces are tasty as well.

At first I was afraid, I was petrified... but a delicious Margherita helped soothe my 'What am I doing here' feeling. Delicious ribs, yummy chips with meats and liquid cheese, lots of wine... in the end it was fun.<br/>

More places like this are needed in Freo!!! A friend and I were way too excited to hear about Holy Smokes. The menu is small and cheap but delicious and we will be back to try some other dishes. <br/><br/>We had just had some highly disappointing cocktails at our previous venue and were looking to fix this problem...look no further. Their cocktail list has about 6 drinks on it but have no fear if you are a bourbon lover or whisky lover they have quite a large selection. My friend ordered the Indian Summer and she said it was well balanced and refreshing. I ordered the Kraken Old Fashioned - one of the cocktails of the week, on a whim - and it was smooth and easily drinkable. Kraken is a dark spiced rum and the orange and bitters set it off beautifully. <br/><br/>We ordered pork scratchings to wash the drinks down with. If you were looking for the perfect accompaniment to nibble on whilst polishing off a pint or two these would be it. For $5 a glass you get enough for two people - we didn't finish them but they were crispy and salty just like good pork scratching needs to be. <br/><br/>We also ordered meals - i ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was crunchy and well cooked. They add chilli to the maple mix on top and it jus takes a typical comfort dish to a new level. I prefer it, I think, to the standard. My friend order chicken fried steak - to which the bar tender asked to make sure we knew it wasn't chicken. Chicken fried steak is steak but int he preparation and cooking process it is treated like deep friend chicken...hence the name. This is the first and only place  I have seen this dish in Perth. Both dishes come with a healthy serve of buttered greens and were polished off fairly quickly. <br/><br/>These guys also make their own condiments - so try the chipotle and bbq sauces - all in house. They are awesome! <br/><br/>All up the food is cheap, delicious comfort food which will fill you right up. They also have live music etc during the week so will be back to see what they are like when busy.

Freo has desperately lacked a place like this. Great concept with the food and presentation, terrific value that allows you to try many items from the menu and sensational, unique cocktails mixed by staff who actually know what they are doing. This is the sort of place where you can chill out all night. Service at the bar could probably do with a few more staff but other than that, a total winner.

Holy Smokes is a cozy little bar and eatery in the heart of Fremantle, which delivers exactly what it says on the tin: great southern style American food and very potent (mostly) bourbon based cocktails, as well as home made crackling and jerky and a great variety of alternative (foreign) beers. Try the chicken waffles, they are to die for!! I could eat two lots in one go. And on Tuesdays they are on special :) <br/>If you fancy a casual dining experience and a relaxed drink, for lunch or dinner, this place should be right up your street. But beware, if you are vego you are going to miss out!

So yummy! We had a group of 4 so we tried quite a bit off the menu and everything had a beautiful smokey bbq flavour and was well balanced. Its a great place to go for drinks and some tasty eats. Must go back soon and try out some moonshine!

Its a bar, so pull up a stool. Interesting whisky selection and some nice beers. Mostly the food was really quite good with the standout dish being the pork ribs. Bbq sauce was great and the wings were nice. The brisket had a nice flavour but I doubt it was cooked for 10 or so hours in a smoker as it is supposed to be, it wasn't tender. Mac n cheese croquettes sounded better than they tasted (they weren't tasty) and the so called brioche bread was pretty horrible, tasted store bought. Perth being the global anomaly it is meaning NO TABLE SERVICE is the dissapointing norm and applies here despite there having waitstaff... All in all gourmet says go ribs!

We go here every 2nd Sunday afternoon for a couple of whiskey cocktails and buffalo wings. I'd recommend the Sazerac, the old fashioned and the whiskey sour followed by 6 x smokey BBQ Wings. $15 for a whiskey cocktail and excellent prices for all food. Which is uber tasty.

The short: amazing tasty & friendly American style BBQ in Freo, what more could you ask for?<br/><br/>The long: I've visited Holy Smokes with my wife a few times now, and we will definitely keep coming back. The staff are always friendly and helpful, the prices are reasonable, and the drinks selection is extensive. The food has amazed us on every visit. Let me give you some highlights.<br/><br/>House made jerky - the house made jerky was surprisingly delicious and had me wishing I bought some more to take home.<br/><br/>House made BBQ and Chipotle sauces - these sauces are the nectars of the gods. Smother them on everything. Seriously good sauces.<br/><br/>BBQ beans - the beans are quickly becoming a favourite of mine. The full on flavour of the beans, BBQ sauce, and delicious BBQd meat chunks never fail to impress.<br/><br/>Mac & Cheese Croquettes - unlike other Mac n cheese bites I've had in the past, these are tasty, creamy, and crunchy. Smother with the sauces and you're in heaven.<br/><br/>BBQ meats served with brioche and pickle - all the meats are delicious, but that pulled pork is something else. Special mention to the delectable BBQ crust on the brisket.<br/><br/>Sliders - the sliders are crazy good, and surprised us with how much flavour is packed in to each one. My personal fave was the brisket and onion ring slider, but I'd happily get the Reuben and pork & slaw varieties again. (update: been back a few times, sliders are always fantastically tasty and great value) <br/><br/>Update August 2017:<br/>Cheese burger: had the double cheeseburger special today. Great juicy patties, bold house-made pickle flavor, mustard, and oodles of cheese. Devoured the whole lot without even a hint of the usual meat fatigue that goes with having multi-patty burgers. Would definitely get again. <br/><br/>Service & drinks: always super friendly, with a deep knowledge of the beers and drinks on offer. Happy to accommodate beer tastings. <br/><br/>

Those ribs though!!! 👌 we also had the brisket and the peach and ricotta salad; flavours combined complimented each other nicely!! Good prices plus good vibes and cosy atmosphere makes for good night out!! Cocktails tasted way too good!!! 😋

Yay! A good American BBQ place! Having visited Texas and gorged on mouthwatering BBQ nonstop we're so happy this is a place we can satisfy our BBQ cravings (it's not as melt in your mouth good but a pretty good attempt). It was a better experience than old faithful (bland meat). It was reasonably priced considered we paid $85 for 2 people (including 3 cocktails). Meat was oh so good, it was smokey! Which I know is a tedious and a hard thing to do (I love BBQ that much I've watched a documentary on it). 1st round was a tad chewy but 2nd round was spot on. Fried pickles were good, crunchy and not oily. Mac n cheese croquettes were scrumptious. Buttered greens a good side, not overly buttered. Reubens were delicious, IF you haven't had it before. I looooove reubens, if it's on the menu I'll have it. I was expecting a classic reuben but the 'buttered' sauerkraut was nowhere as good as the sour type usually used. Was there any Swiss cheese in it? I couldn't taste it or any dressing either and no mustard on the side. As a stand alone pastrami slider it's great but don't expect it to taste like a classic reuben or you'll be disappointed. Cocktails were balanced well and the guy serving was knowledgeable on recommending a good bourbon. It's order at the bar which is absolutely fine by me but management might wanna make clear signage, I saw a group seat themselves then wait 10minutes for table service and then walk out after not being served (it was busy but it's missed business). I really wish they did classic mac n cheese vs croquettes and the usual reuben since their brioche and pastrami is delicious. I guess they're doing their own little tweaks to the standard American BBQ menu but if it's not broken... Despite my criticism, I'm just happy there is a good American BBQ place in Perth!!! I would recommend this place!

This is how eateries should be, welcoming relaxing and great food and drink to be had. Today was a short stop and the food was great, relaxed and slow cooked to perfection, smoked meats as promised. Unsure about the chicken though, but regardless plenty more on the menu to try for next time , plus sample some of the whiskeys and beers to extend the stay. The head guy was spot on, well mannered and made us feel welcome to be part of the Sunday afternoon here.

Heard so much about this new place in Freo so went last night with mates and it didn't disappoint. Don't agree at all with the first reviewer's comments, as our food was delicious and really cheap !! The place had a buzz about it and the drinks and cocktails were ace !! Will be returning as we loved the place.

The portions in this place is very small and also quite $$$. We had ordered about 5 dishes among the 4 of us for dinner and weren't very satisfied after.
