Review Salted Board - Fremantle

So we walked in hungry but it took 20 to get a waiter. I then received my lemon lime bitters, it was supper sweet. The balance with the sour was awful so sweet. We wait 20 more minutes until our food comes out, my pizza was burnt so much I couldn’t eat it. The pasta was watery and tasted like 2 min noodles. The waiters claimed it was made freshly today. As it was packaged frozen garbage. I will never come back to here, the glaze the chefs gave me intimidated me and there attitude was poor. I don’t recommend anyone to this establishment.

Relaxed atmosphere and nice design without being a carbon copy clone of every other hipster cafe out there. Great location in Fremantle- good for people watching. The waitress who took my order was the smiliest person I've ever met but it was genuine and not forced. Food was well presented, tasted good and was generously portioned except for the bacon. Normal menu prices are not too bad for the location, lookout for the specials which are a bargain.

Two stars as responsive staff to issue. Poor food at present. We have been here a couple times and now unfortunately won't be back. First time was to get a cake after we couldn't find one anywhere, they made it specially for us and it was pretty good made the same day and could not have been more helpful. Got us out of a tight spot. Second time was last night. We had soggy tasteless marinara pizza (muscles still in shell is always a bad pizza move), no cheese thin and bland sauce, literally could not eat it and I eat almost everything, my partner had chewy gnocchi, very disappointing, she ate it cos she was hungry and left half. Lady came over and asked us honestly for feedback and was very responsive to hear it. She didn't charge us for our meals and apologised profusely. I hope they find a decent chef and maybe this place can come back alive in summer. She was lovely and the same lady that helped us with the cake last time. Could be a good place, needs a rocking chef or won't survive. Best wishes. 2 stars just cos you were so nice and I would not want to too adversely affect your profile, but you have to do better for my review to be better also.

Bacon and egg breakfast special served with just egg! Staff were fast to bring out the bacon - but only got 1 barely cooked piece...the bread was also barely toasted. Granola was yum though - very chewy, a couple of really hard clumps to chew through. Had to request a spoon also. Burnt coffee (wish I hadn't ordered a mug!) cool interior and nice staff though

Had dinner and found the service was good but it should of been due to the fact that the place was nearly empty. I ordered the battered Barramundi and chips and it was very ordinary to say the least. It was glorified fish and chips. My partner ordered the Pasta with Italian sausage and it was so small he was still hungry afterwards, not to mention that it was real average. The dishes were all over priced and for what we had very ordinary and nothing to them. I think we would of been better to go to Hungry Jacks!

Staff were friendly but it was slow to get meals, it took nearly 2 hrs from ordering to get pizza and we were the only ones in there. Would hate to think our slow it would be if they were busy. Pizza was okay wasnt the best. Ate here because it was in the entertainment book, if I had to pay full price I would have been upset.

I ordered the barra, prawns, scallops and chips with salad and told them I was a coeliac and couldn't have gluten. I got served a tasteless, soggy, poached piece of fish and a salad drenched in too much sweet balsamic to eat. No chips, no prawns, no scallops, no apologies. Too bad I had already paid. I felt like crying. I don't want to be a Coeliac, and they did not accommodate at all. They should have told me they couldn't do the meal. When I asked about the rest of my meal they said the rest had gluten in it and offered me some avo and tomato. I am quite sad about my lunch.

We just happened upon this place for breakfast and were enticed by the $15 big brekkie. The barister was so friendly and welcoming. Coffee was good and food was amazing. So yum! And great value. Glad we stopped in. See you next time Salted Board!

First time I've ever written a bad review but feel so strongly about how we were treated. I took my children out for dinner. I ordered the steak sandwich, my son the chilli mussells and my daughter nuggets and chips. When I received my steak sandwich it was full of raw onion and no greens. When I questioned where the greens were she asked the chef who said he forgot to put them in. My dsughter couldn't eat the nuggets as they tasted terrible and the mussels weren't fresh. When I mentioned my concerns to the waitress she was rude and charged me full price for all meals.

Was there late on a Sunday night, we only ordered coffee and cakes from the cake cabinet and what a disappointment. The pecan pie tasted stale and the tiramisu was meh. Coffees ordinary. Service was weird, the waitress was either tired or high but friendly enuf. Wouldn’t not go back

This place blows.

Went in with some friends and holy shit, what a dissapointment. Scrambled eggs were soggy, bread was hardly toasted and the "fresh squeezed juice" was freshly squeezed right out of a bottle. Bacon was so greasy and badly cooked it couldnt be eaten.

Even if this place manages to get multiple Michelin Stars, id still rather take a dump in my kitchen and eat that up instead.

Maybe they do good pizza and its just a shit breakfast menu. Maybe the serving staff are more polite and attentive at night. All questions i sure as fk wont find the answers to because fk that place, I'll NEVER go back

Gets one star because i cant give it none.

The tortellini was so rich it was inedible! The pizza vase was soggy and really had no flavour, I’m not sure why $50 plus is okay for this food!

Ate here on a Saturday night, and our experience wasn't that good. Wood fired pizza was not bad, though the pizza base a tad thick. Ordered the slow cooked lamb with cous cous and it was dry and terrible. The cous cous lacked any flavour or seasoning, the lamb looked grey and very sad on the cous cous and the dish came without a sauce. We decided to let the staff know, and what we were told was "the head chef is on leave so the sauce that goes with the lamb is not available, usually it has a depth of flavour but you will have to do without''. I cannot even imagine how a restaurant can get away with serving an incomplete dish and being so stand-offish about it...as if the customer asked the chef to go and not train anyone in his place! Obviously, we won't be going back.

Such a great little restaurant in freo with delicious pizza! Especially the pizza dolce, it was Nutella perfection! Thanks for an amazing meal we will definitely be back.

My wife and I ate here recently on a Friday night and ordered
2 pizzas with a couple of drinks. Reasonably priced food and drinks and I was
very impressed by the wood fired pizzas. Simple ingredients and the dough
itself was crispy yet fluffy inside. Perfect in my opinion. Will be back again.

Booked here for Wednesday night. Obviously there were quite a few walk-ins on the night. One waiter and one chef to service an almost capacity restaurant!! selected wines weren't available due to 'delivery issues'. Please Fremantle - we live here and we want it to be great - but how hard is it to maintain stock of your wines when there are so many bottle shops around??

Went here yesterday and can only say loved it..
There was 3 of us and were all blown away.
Great job guys keep it up we will be back for dinner

Possibly the worst dining experience I have had in Freo.
Table service was virtually non existent.
The ordered arrangements and the waiting was deplorable.
As a group , we were all disappointed.
Unprofessional and dismal kind of best describes my experience in the 'Salted Board' .

Used a groupon which was a gift and there were price limits which weren't stated on the groupon, whether it's their fault or groupons either way it is pretty poor as it is the customer who is being stuffed around.
Not a worry, we paid extra for what we wanted.
Asked the waitress for advice on what's good for mains and was recommended the gnocchi with pureed pea and blah blah blah.... she said the chefs are Italian. Great i said! I'll have that.
I loooove Italian food but that dish was just gross! I left half my meal it was that bad. My partner felt sorry for me watching my facial expressions with each mouthful.
As we go up to pay we passed another couple sitting at a table and I noticed the girl had left more than half her meal and was sitting there looking pretty unhappy.... the same meal. So we paid and guess what, on our way out another lady sitting there looking unhappy with just about her whole meal sitting there while her partners plate was finished. She had the same meal too!
I've never seen that in my life! Not only were you serving up absolute rubbish food, your staff were recommending it to diners.
The only reason I am giving a 2 and not a 1 is because the arancini was nice.
Oh and the garlic bread is a joke for the price.

Came here for brunch and tea. Had the mushroom, bruschetta and eggs meal. Breakfast menu branches out a bit from the typical eggs on toast and at the same time it's not obnoxious or overly hipster. You can get a reliable breakfast and not be bored. Food was very good. Tea was nothing special. Service was very good.

This was either an attempted rip-off or totally untrained staff Had a voucher two course meal for two. Limit of $12 on entree and surcharge for steak, On arrival told there was choice of only two entrees for voucher, although other entrees on menu $12 or less. THen told $22 limit on main Only one main $22 or less Waitress comes back Limit is actually $24 This was not stiplulated on voucher. To crown it all as we left they tried to charge us for second entree as voucher covers only one entree to share! After that who cares about food or service

I've been there for dinner, I had a porterhouse steak with mash and mix vegi ... the best steak that i ever ate, thanks to the lovely staff ! Lovely atmosphere!

The ambience was great, and good value on the Groupon vouchers we got, but the first impression ended there. The garlic bread was good but the polenta chips in the entree were very oily, when I remarked about this at the end I was told well they're chips.....The pulled pork slider was alright, filling and moist. The chicken parmigiana and the New York steak sandwich lacked flavour, very ordinary. Same oiliness for the thai green curry and spinach and ricotta pasta. Only the beetroot pasta dish was something I'd consider having again, very interesting and tasty for a non beetroot lover like me. The staff was accommodating, but a let down overall.

I enjoy discovering little places like these
What a nice little place on the main strip in Fremantle
The food there was good but not impressive, it felt good for what was there theme they weren't overly priced, great presentation of there meals, I wouldn't mind going back there again, nice place to try out if you want change

This place is a disgrace. We tried to use the Groupon but the cranky waitress said it can only be used Monday-Thursday. This was despite the Groupon not stating anything about that. The waitress said they had spoken with Groupon and to take it up with them. The breakfast was no good anyway. Poorly presented eggs Benedict with no taste. The waitress also made us sit at a table right near the entry where it was freezing. Do not go here!

Very disappointing food and service. Coffee good but the food disgusting. Fish taco was a thin slice of fish with sliced tomatoes in a pre bought taco shell. The chips were cold. Wagu patty burger was good. Toilets out of action had to use hungry jacks across the road for the children.
Freoman
Nice ambience. Coffee was Columbian but with a flavour more like what my American friends serve. Food was ok but not huge amounts of flavour. Pleasant enough.

Nice setting, relaxed however the food was nothing special, had the special of the day, Barramundi but not impressed, chips were cold and the thinnest barramundi fillet I've ever had Barra should fall apart and be flaking this was not, having lived in the Kimberley and eaten Barra regularly this meal was a disappointment. On the up side - good coffee

We decided to give Fremantle's new place a go. The venue used to be Theobroma but they have transformed it to a modern style cafe. Nothing interesting from their breakfast & lunch menus. We asked if we can order from dinner menu and they said yes, awesome! So we ordered Fresh Egg Tagliatelle with Duck Ragu, Pulled Pork Slider, Ice Mocha & Flat White. Pasta was nicely cooked, just how I like it. They didn't make the pasta themselves and bought from an Italian providore instead, fyi. Duck ragu sauce needed more kick to it. I added a lot of tabasco to suit my taste. Pulled Pork Slider was alright. Pork wasn't dry and mustard mayonnaise coleslaw was tasty. As for coffee, they have their own house blend. My friend said her Ice Mocha was nice. My Flat White was alright. Service was sufficient. They also have a lot of cakes on display. I would give SB another go, but not too soon.

I was won over as soon as I saw that they have Matso's ginger beer on tap! Very quiet on a Wednesday lunch, but a great place to people-watch on the strip. I had the pie and beer-battered chips (oh, memories of Holly's at Kmart!) and the chips were great. The pie was a good effort if house-made but I think they can do better if bought-in. A tomato chutney or even Beerenberg tomato sauce on the side would also be better than the Heinz/standard one.

Free WiFi makes this a good group study or meeting spot during the day, and they're open in the evening later in the week. A great addition to the strip with an interesting and changing menu, and service was excellent when I visited. Well worth checking out.

I thought I’d walked the strip a thousand times, but somehow I have managed to walk past this place opposite the Monk Brewery without noticing it. This morning I decided to head down to Freo to discover this place that has been evading me since it opened in February this year. Now I was a little confused with opening time because the menu says on their website “all day breakfast 7am to 5pm,” but the website opening hours are 8am for brekkie. I assumed the latter and arrived at just after 8am to discover locked doors. The lights were on and the cook was inside. I thought I would stroll on by and enjoy Freo outside the tourist “push and shove” time and give it a go a bit later.

When I returned 10 minutes later the cook was opening the doors, so I asked if opening time was 8am, and he said yes, but they were running late today. He gave me the menu and said that coffee would arrive as soon as the manager or someone else arrived, as he did not operate the coffee machine. That was fine with me, so I studied the menu and enjoyed the hip interior all to myself. After a while, the chef asked me if I was ready to order and I decided on the Board’s classic smoked salmon benedict on a brioche bun. Soon the Italian waitress arrived and asked if I had ordered, I said yes, but not coffee yet. So she made a beautiful hot and strong long Mac topped up. Ah it was magnificent, the beans were prefect strong flavoured, and quite different to anywhere I had tried before. They do have their own blend which I discovered you can buy at the counter to enjoy at home.

The meal came out only a minute after the coffee and was nicely presented. The eggs were perfectly poached and the Tassie salmon was very enjoyable. I enjoyed the brioche bun, never had it with a benedict before, but it made it light. I had the place to myself for at least 45 minutes when folks started to arrive.

Nice place, with good food and excellent coffee; I ordered a second round after discovering they don’t do a Bloody Mary. Will be back to try their lunch or dinner menu.
