Review Charchar - Fremantle

Rustlers Steakhouse
We just by chance found ourselves in Freemantle for a cheeky getaway before attending and industry expo. While walking around we came across Char Char. The menu looked appealing so we popped in and asked if they had room. Thankfully the was quiet a selection of tables of 2 so we had our choice. The atmosphere was quite nice but lighting while very soft, it could be a little to gentle for some folks to read the menu. We opted for the Carnivore Feasting Plate. We also added a side of roasted leeks as well. We started with some still water and a G&T. When dinner started to come out we had to start consolidating our drinks from their bottles to their glasses to make room for the serving plates and dinner plates. (Tables just a tad to small for everything) salt and pepper was presented in 2 little ramekins for pinching and sprinkling on your food. We were asked if we would like anything else to drink. Unfortunately to make room for the food the drinks menu had been removed so we had to ask for it again so we could get a wine to go with dinner. Food was incredible! Steak cooked to a rested medium, beef short rib was flavoursome and easy to take off the bone while at the same time not so overcooked has to break up before inserting on your fork. And the mint salsa with the lamb shoulder was incredible. Hardiest issues for plates like that is eating fast enough so the food does not get too cold. Also had sticky date pudding ( a little spongy for our liking but was still tasty and this of course is only our opinion, other folks would probably really love it) finished with a short black and a digestive liqueur. All in all a nice experience. Great job team.

Great setting and views, prices are a bit above average, but food quality is excellent, fresh and flavourful. Drinks menu is extensive and reasonably priced. Staff and service is excellent. Would recommend and return for sure.

Absolutely will be going back again. Could not fault the food it was delicious!! The staff are wonderful and very friendly and everything was very clean. Would recommend to anyone happy to spend a bit of money on a well cooked and presented meal!

I believe that this restaurant is the best in the area. I like the environment and vibes. Staff are so friendly with a big smile. Service is great. In regards food, every single item I ordered was a very delicious and nice. What a nice experience we got here

A little bit pricy but you get what you pay for and considering it was a special occasion it was well worth it. Food was exceptional and the service was also top notch. It made a special occasion even that more enjoyable. Revisit December 2021 This visit unfortunately didn't live up to our first visit, although still very good food, the service wasn't as great, but it is still quite pricey. Still worth a visit if you haven't been and would still rate a solid 4 stars.

A great place for indoor gathering especially in cold weather. The medium-rare beef with good grilled and 'Char char', and the mushroom gravy is tasty. Sharing a good plate of fresh oysters with a touch of lemon juice followed by a great wine is excellent. This restaurant has a fine dining atmosphere. This is one of the places that your friends, relatives and visitors will remember.

Great service, great food, awesome venue, first time here, very good experience.

Way too overpriced for mediocre food. Paid $42 for what looked like slop on a plate that was meant to be lamb. My mothers prawns tasted absolutely awful and after enquiring they told us the prawns had been frozen from being caught two days prior, this meal was also extraordinarily expensive. The wait staff were wonderful but the food was ordinary and awful.

What a great night, food was Incredible , drink selection perfect and the service spot on. I actually thought it was a run of the mill Steak house but no, we only went in because it looked nice and had a lovely vibe and atmosphere but as we walked in was any thing but a typical steak house; the menu was well put together, each dish really worked and my big surprise was just how tasty the dessert was. We went for the Eaton Mess, total taste sensation even the dill worked on a dessert?!?! We had oysters, king fish, octopus, steak and crab linguine. This was not a Steak and chips, kids nuggets place, this was fine dining! Thanks guys we didn’t expect that at all! A really pleasant atmosphere, and a big tick from us, well done. We will be back!

Here, waiting for service. No gluten free booze. Staff running around, like headless chooks and they not busy. Not sure worth the drive. Food disappointing. When went to pay, she tried to charge me $300 for oysters, didn’t have oysters. Can’t see us going back, not worth it. Very expensive menu, but small portions. No kids menu, no kids drawing stuff.

Amazing venue with an even better view. Staff very attentive never went with out a drink or food. Plus it was the best steak of my 32 years of existence. Set the standard very high for steak in Perth :)

Came for dinner with my partner last night. Highly recommend natural oysters, tempura oysters, both salmon and beef starters Absolutely amazing and exactly what I wanted. Great flavours. Excellent staff Thanks so much for a lovely dining experience

Not a fantastic experience overall. I ordered the scotch fillet while my partner had the market fish, both were cooked very well but were terribly salty which killed all other flavour unfortunately. The staff are very unattentative and lack knowledge of the drinks menu ( even bringing the table next to us the wrong bottle of wine ) Very long wait after entreé to main and not once were we approached to see if we needed another drink, how the food was etc. Had to wait 10 minutes from ordering our bill to have it delivered to the table. All on a not too busy Thursday night.

Great venue overlooking the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour. Recently renovated and done with a touch of class and style. The food here is excellent, the service is excellent, you will love the menu and enjoy the surroundings as you dine...highly recommended.

Had lunch here today. Gorgeous day. We didn’t have a booking but were accommodated with a table as close to the window as possible. Service was impeccable, staff were gorgeous, efficient and friendly. Meal and drinks came promptly and were delicious as were sweets and coffee. Would come again anytime.
Dawn Blundell
Excellent day as always. Amazing food from Michael the chef, great service from our favourite waiter Jay and lots of laughs and love with all the staff. Will miss going for a few while renovations are on but can't wait for the reopening. Best restaurant in Perth.

The best steak bar none in Perth/Fremantle. Service is very attentive but not intrusive . Could not fault we will be back . The new premises and decor is just fantastic , an all round food and ambience experience in a great location..
Mike Fielder
Food was ok not great and portions were small, bigger disapointment was the service or lack of. After waiting for drinks went up to the bar and was ignored by two staff members. Once we finished our meals we waited for our plates to be cleared so we could order deserts after a considerable wait we decided to go elsewhere for desert. After placing our mains order we were not once approached by any staff despite having an early booking and the restruant not being busy.
Kylie-Anne Stokes
Great food, perfectly cooked steaks... enjoyed bubbles and mojitos, and all with outstanding service. Portions very filling... a great place for special occasions.

Have been waiting to check out the new look. I thought it had a Bit of a winery feel and they will need the blinds on the Windows or it will get very hot sitting there. The food was as always very good. The service the same. I had the risotto and it was delicious. My husband had the rib eye and he said it was a better piece of steak than the one he had at Rockpool. A couple of things we didn't like, an extra charge for the sauce to go with the steak (have complained about this before) no tablecloths and the music was terrible. But we will return as it's one of the better restaurants in Fremantle. I don't think We've ever had a bad meal or service at char char bull and we have been dining here for quite a few years.

For a Wednesday night, it was fairly well attended so there was a slight wait for our table but we enjoyed a drink from the bar and when we got to our table, we had a lovely water view. The wait staff were so friendly and attentive and the food ... well, absolutely nothing to fault. Our meals were very flavoursome and tasted as good as they presented on the plate. Lovely wine selection and the menu had lots to choose from to suite any palate. We'll definitely be back. The only thing that ruined our night was finding a parking ticket when we returned to our car! Didn't realise that there'd be paid parking late on a Wednesday night and didn't see the sign as we drove in :-(
Deb Leech
This experience was not as good as other times. It took over an hour after ordering for our meals to arrive even though it was not very busy. The wait staff seemed quite inexperienced and a bit disorganised.
MeiTing Kelly Chen
Too expensive for the service and the food quality they provided. Food portion is also very little. Wouldn't go again.
Stuart
My wife had scotch fillet, flavor was ok but was not tender. I had the Kerrigan valley bone in sirloin and it was terrible. So sinewy in places i couldn't even cut it. Showed the half eaten steak with criss cross cuts showing my efforts to cut, to the waiter, he took it away and never came back. Never again will we eat at Char Char Bull. <br/>
Food Glorious Food
Lovely spot by the water. Was quite busy for a Sunday night, but not full. <br/>Food was small plate sharing style. <br/>Nothing quite stood out, but everything was pleasant and staff were efficient<br/>Price wise on the high side but was reasonable given the location and type of restaurant.
Julesandpep Alvaro
Entree and sweets we great, but the steak was very below average sinewy and I ordered medium rare it was well done and not seared. Like boiled meat. Disappointing for $58. One great waitress but other waiter average - pretended not to hear and understand when questioned about menu at some points of the day.
Jcart
Would rate higher but food is very overpriced for quality and portion size... owners must be trying to recoup the recently completed renovation costs! Bit late on reviewing as we dined here a little while ago but had extremely friendly and professional service from one particular member of staff, I think her name was CJ. Definitely recommend asking to be served by her! Very informed on choosing the right drink for your meal and was very attentive to our quite large table. Will be back, but recommend a look at the pricings and portion sizes to be a more frequented venue by our group!
Aidan Orangi
Just an overall average experience. Somewhat underwhelming. None of the steaks we ordered were prepared appropriately. Medium rare became medium and medium became well done. The sauces were delicious though. Especially the miso basil hollandaise. The Passion Fruit parfait was lovely. It was light and packed a fruity punch and had a good range of textures and elements that worked well together.
Gary Connelly
Far too expensive for what is served. Mussels appalling, a third hadn't opened and the ones that had were shrivelled up. Despite questioning the server twice, the wrong bottle of wine was served!! Being SSB and the fact they all taste the same, the ladies drinking it were not aware until I asked for the bottle. Care factor from staff - zero. I ordered the same beer twice and yet was served 2 different beers, next time I will bring my glasses!! Loved the old Char Char and went often, this edition doesn't have a patch on it.....never again :(

The food is spectacular! Nicest restaurant we’ve been to in a very long time and most certainly will be going back. 5 star view, ambience, service, food and cocktails!<br/>Will be returning again soon

Perfect restaurant for a date, dinner with family or friends. Very clean with prompt service. The food was very enjoyable with a magnificent view. I would recommend this restaurant and I'll definitely be back again.
Kayapao
Had a lovely dinner here. Ordered some olives to start. The kangaroo steak was surprisingly delicious, done rare, well seasoned and juicy. I used to hate eating kangaroo due to a bad experience 🤮 This place has changed my perception. The steak was also done beautifully with a side of peppercorn sauce. Highly recommended.

Hadn't been to Char Char in a while, and I have to say, it was as nice as I remember.<br/><br/>Food was lovely. I had the pork tenderloin, which was cooked perfectly but could've used more corn purée on the plate. My boyfriend ordered a steak, cooked medium rare, which came out exactly as ordered and he really enjoyed it. I would recommend ordering a few sides, as the mains don't really come with much. The kipfler potatoes with bacon and herbs were really good.<br/><br/>The service was friendly but our waitress seemed a bit shy - she didn't really do a good job of reading the specials.<br/><br/>The Entertainment gold card got us $30 knocked off, so we can't complain!

Now this place, it's fancy alright and has good ambience. BUT. The dessert is an abomination. They force us to pay a ridiculous amount  for a sodden whitish lump which they dare to label "panna cotta". They also put bird food (legit granola bars ppl) in their "brownies". The waitress even had the cheek to tell me that, "it's my favourite dish and I totes recommend it". The steak was ok though.
Sandhya1814
I give this place a 3.5 stars. <br/>Its not a cheap place, the portion size is small amd the price is big. They have a decent wine list but by the glass its really limited (disappointing). <br/>Ambience is good, customer service is good. <br/>Not a place i would revisit as there isnt a WOW factor.
DCnr
Was a bit disappointed with Char Char Bull. The service and steaks were a let down. They mixed up our orders - ie I got someone else’s well done rib eye and they got my medium rare. We didn’t pick this up till half way through our meal and it was not worth the complain by then. They also took their time with bringing our drinks. The entrees were good. I had the pork belly and tried some of my partners octopus, they were both delicious. I heard from our mate that the oysters were fresh.

Loved it and can’t recommend it enough!Great food , amazing cocktails, top service , staff very attentive and with a good knowledge of food and drinks they are selling. Will be back for sure !
Ilovebeansprouts
Great view, lovely atmosphere, but disappointing food. Steamed mussels were cooked inconsistently; some were nice and plump, while others were overcooked- dry & shrunken. Seafood orecchiette tasted pleasant, but again the seafood was cooked inconsistently, which was such a shame.  The chips and garlic bread were probably the most enjoyable dishes of the night. <br/>For dessert, we had the Caramelised Pineapple Tart and it was the most disappointing dish of the night. Felt like we were just served with a slice of canned pineapple, soaked in sugar syrup, on a piece of dough. The 'tart' was soggy and gluey, and though the yoghurt sorbet with the almonds was nice, as a whole, the dessert wasn't pleasant to eat. <br/>Love the service and the ambience, but the food was just underwhelming, especially for the premium prices we were paying.
F4fitfunfoodfly
We had friends from Taiwan. Ordered the mythai & Singapore sling, triple berry cocktail. I had the scotch fillet and octopus. The risotto was sea scented with prawns and fish chunks. Slathered in sun yellow butter. The steak was medium & crunched with a seared topping. You could walk to the beach to see tbe sun set before dinner. Worthy of a tourist visit if you're in Fremantle. Great friendly staff and live band on Sunday evening. A real treat if your visitors are from a country where only bankers eat bovine protein!!

The Fishing Boat Harbour in Fremantle has long been a port of call for fresh fish n’ chips. I’d often wondered what popular eatery Char Char Bull offered, but we never quite resisted that golden-fried fish from its neighbours. Now known as Char Char, the recently refurbished restaurant and bar is just as fresh as the fish next door. It’s probably more accurate to say re-built than refurbished, as the entire restaurant had been completely gutted. The new lounge bar area is perfect for a cheeky pre-dinner drink or two. They’ve done a tremendous job.

Two friends and I went for dinner on a Friday night recently. It wasn’t a particularly busy night. Staff seemed to rush around heaps which made the atmosphere not relaxing at all. It had a sense of disorganisation. For about 10 mins no one ever approached us to offer taking our orders (we had to get their attention at last). It took an hour for our three mains and one side dish to arrive (we didn’t order entree). No single staff came and checked on us during that whole hour. I ordered lamb ribs with chips and coleslaw. The meat of the ribs was chewy, dry and bland. Coleslaw was way too salty. My other friend ordered kangaroo and it tasted pretty good. But there was only one small fillet for $37 which is ridiculous in my opinion. The other main was a 300g scotch fillet which we believed it was more like 200g. Overall, food was below average and service was poor. Totally underwhelming.

Absolutely love this place. Best steak in Perth. All of the food here is amazing, the service is super friendly and very efficient. Atmosphere was lovely before the renovation, and even better now. Will keep coming back.
Saskia.wiseman
Quite disappointing, here for a work Christmas lunch. All steak very over cooked. ‘Tomato’ salad had one cherry tomato and would be better described as a rocket salad, especially disappointing for our guest who ordered this in a main size and found the meal terrible. Would not recommend and won’t be back. Entrees were okay
Buon Gusto
Very elegant place overlooking the habour. Food was very good. <br/>The prawn entree in caramelized lemon delicious. I had linguine with crab - maybe a tab more chili but I like chili. The steak was cooked perfect and was extremely tasty. As it was all so beautiful we had dessert sticky date and a deconstructed GF - can’t recall name but both very delectable. Definitely a must place to go for great meal n service.

Thank god Char Char has reopened! Easily my favourite restaurant in Fremantle.<br/>The new decor is fantastic and really sets a wonderful dining atmosphere.<br/>The food hasn't changed much and I'm really glad about that.<br/>The staff are still the friendliest in town.<br/>Welcome Back!

Absolutely incredible meat and dining. Amazing customer service that can help with any suggestions. This place is great for special occasions

Went to Char Char Bull for our anniversary dinner and as always the team didn't disappoint. The reservation process is always quick and efficient... (we called); the welcome was great and very friendly; the table was perfectly set and as requested and they even welcome us with a champagne drinks. The trout appetizer was great and buttery, the bread was delicious. The wait staff was friendly and efficient along with knowing the difference between being "in your face" all the time and not being around at all. The steak and fish mains where delicious and perfectly cooked... my better half loves the whiskey peppercorns sauce!!! The dessert was delicious albeit a bit on the big side... happy to return anytime and happy to recommend to everyone!!

Unbelievably delicious but expensive food. The steaks and seafood dishes are to die for. The decor inside isn't great, but there's a nice atmosphere. It's possible to have a fantastic night here if you can somehow forget about the prices or get someone else to pay.

After a big breakfast, we hardly stopped for lunch, but rather made it through to dinner before having some time to sit down for a serious meal. Driving out to Freemantle to admire the sunset before dinner, we had a table booked at Char Char Bull at the harbour for a delicious steak dinner. Arriving at 6.15pm, we were one of the only tables there. I really liked the quiet and casual yet elegant atmosphere of the restaurant. Service was also quite attentive and warm as well.

The staff here make the place. The bar man and the lady organising the tables are first class. They then passed me over to a great French waiter. The staff make this place. The food was great too.
Davidhalim.wijaya
Worst place and they even try to charge on what we did not have! No apologise ?? Even the manager susan( dont know whether is a real name) waitstaff georgia blaming us cause we didnot check the bill before we pay. Terrible service, terrible. Carefull people!notice the bartender from joe fish shack. They dont have enough wine glass for the table. 10 of us spend 700$ too expensive for terible service. Should fired the manager.

Came here for dinner with my dad. The food was nice and the portions reasonable. I ordered the pork (I would highly recommend this dish!!!) and my dad ordered a steak. The steak came out exactly how my dad ordered it. I took the waiter's recommendation on the dessert as I was tossing up between two & he was right - it was delicious!!<br/>Food - ✅✅✅✅<br/>Service - ✅✅✅✅

What a disappointment to a place we have loved going to as a favourite. Smoked Salmon wasn't explained to be cooked Salmon but smoked over tea leaves (didn't enjoy at all and couldn't eat it) to their credit they didn't charge for it after a fair amount of discussion! Main course for my partner was fish - over cooked and dry. Our waiter Jay was really great and attentive - restaurant Manager however had attitude. Don't think we will be returning.
Kaz Belkus-Blair
The food tasted great. Was a little disappointed to find that the steak I ordered only came with one cup of mashed potato. Both sauce and extra sides, like vegetables, costs more.

For a seafood and steak restaurant, you charge $12 for Tiger Prawn Garlic Cream, and you serve bulk buy Asian prawns, and then argue when I point out that they are not Tiger Prawns, on top of a very average steak for $42, I would never go back.
Hippo309
Service was great! Fish and chips were so so so good! I asked for the scotch fillet to be medium, but the middle ended up being medium rare. Otherwise would've given this place a 4.5. Oh yes, onion rings were good too!
SweetPoison
Had dinner here with 7 other people on a Friday night. Atmosphere was beautiful. Service was lovely. I ordered the barramundi with no dressing- there was no fuss, they easily accommodated my requests. The balsamic grapes were delicious!! It is quite pricey for what you get- but we new that coming in to the restaurant. We were able to use 3entertainment vouchers for our table, which was also great! Good night. Lost points due to a previous experience with sand in my salad -which was replaced with an equally sandy salad.

Was in Freo looking for something different from the usual Cicerellos where we visit often. Was lunchtime and the place was empty, we were the only ones there. Was escorted to our table at the front window in the burning hot sun which I wouldn't have minded if they turned the air conditioning on, which they didn't. Ordered two plates of the daily special, the porterhouse steak and chips. Was instructed that they wouldn't cook it as I wanted, well done. Had to settle for medium which arrived bleeding through everything on my plate until it was a soggy mess. The waiter was the definition of the word 'snob', and made it a point to interrupt our conversation to rearrange the cutlery my girlfriend had moved slightly to the side. Should have gone to Cicerellos, will not make that mistake again!!

Went there twice for a birthday and New Year's Eve dinner. Had the angel hair seafood pasta and lemon thyme chicken breast. Both were absolutely delicious would definitely recommend to try this place!<br/>Staff are super nice and friendly! <br/>Best resto yet

Last night my boyfriend and I went to Char Char Bull to celebrate his birthday. We had previously gone here before, probably about 2 years ago and remembered that the steaks were cooked well. We were seated next to the window which had a lovely view of the harbour. The restaurant has a nice ambience inside however I would like to note that we were seated quite close to the other customers. Given that the night was not super busy, I would have preferred to have been seated a bit further away from other people because some people were talking quite loudly and we could hear their whole conversation. Nonetheless it was still a pleasant night. The waiters were attentive and friendly. We ordered some garlic bread for entrée as we were told that our main would take 30 minutes or so because it was such a large piece of meat to cook. The garlic bread was delicious – nice thick slices of bread and a very generous serving. For mains we opted for the 1kg rib eye on the bone which came with a serve of chips and choice of two sauces. We ordered the steak medium rare however some of the meat was slightly too underdone (I personally think that this is pretty acceptable just because I know a big thick piece of meat can be very difficult to cook). We ate the pieces that were cooked to our liking and the waiter and chef seemed to be understanding and nice when we asked for our underdone pieces to be cooked a bit more. The pieces returned to our table with a lovely sear on the outside and a lovely ‘seared’ taste to it. The chips were lovely and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Sauce-wise I am a bit like Manu, and love my sauces – I think that the sauce size could have been bigger (more is bigger!), particularly because we ordered such a big piece of steak. Char Char Bull is in the Entertainment book with a 25% off voucher. We actually got the discount but were told that we could keep our voucher for our next visit which was nice! Overall we enjoyed our night and would return.
Tasty Morsels
Just had lunch at Char Char Bull in Fremantle. The food was SUPERB! We had a succulent fillet of salmon on a bed of lentils and Rib Eye steak with mash in a beautiful bone marrow and garlic sauce. It was to die for!!! The desserts were just as delicious, we had the Raspberry parfait and the dark chocolate Marquise. The marquise was so silky smoothe and tasted just like a cherry ripe. The portions of the meals are generous and we also took the kids who had the kids menu and had good servings as well. The service was second to none. If you go there ask for Bram, he was a great host and our wait staff were fantastic and entertaining too. Definitely will be back, it's also in the Entertainment Book!

OMG, this place is really great! Beautiful location on the harbour. Inside it is lovely with a nice ambience, outside is chilled, sitting on the jetty people watching. The entrees are great share dishes and so delicious, such as the pork belly and the pate. We love the steaks, cooked perfectly. The cocktails and the desserts are a must!!!!

Fillet steak with red wine jus & buttery potato purée - one of the BEST steaks I have enjoyed in Perth! It was cooked perfectly - medium rare. Along with the awesome food the service and wait staff were attentive and kept up with my table of 8. Drinks were always full, food came out at the same time and plates cleared promptly. If you love a perfect steak you must go to Char Char Bull. Well worth it!
Connoisseur Kev
Came for lunch Friday, ordered tiger prawns, fried buttermilk chicken and porterhouse steak with garlic bread to start. Garlic bread was tasteless, coukd not even taste a hint of garlic. Steak was over cooked a little but ok... but definitely not worth the money. The chicken was burt and so were the potatoes it came with. Prawns were tiny little things smaller.than a cocktail. Overall very poor food, wont be back again as this is now 3 or 4 times i have been here and each time the food gets worse.
Heather Reed
Came in earlier in the week and was blown away by the amazing food and service. Will surely return. I have been a few times before, honestly this place gets better and better each time I come. Thanks everyone!! Keep up the standard.
Renato
So well looked after by Vincenzo! The beef cheek terrine for entree was a star and the rib eye we shared for main was flavoursome and perfectly cooked. Brilliant food, excellent wine and superb service made tonight a return experience.
Anna Mcgregor
Food is good.<br/>Beautiful view and location.<br/>Prices are too high though and the staff are arrogant.<br/><br/>This could be a booming restaurant with some minor tweaks.
Loren
Food divine and a good ambience overall.<br/>However i still have that nauseating smell of smoke in my noose. Went for dinner and i have been served this delicious rib eye on the bone. Unfortunately it was served by a smoker person( French manager). All plate was surrounded by this small of smoke. I assume he were just back from a quick smoke during the service. Very unprofessional.. Disappointing charcharbull..

Single main course for 2 and a bottle of wine. Steak perfectly cooked. Sauces and vegetables not included in the prices so add, $16($4 +$12!) if you want anything but meat and potato purée on your main plate. Service standard very high - friendly attentive and professional. I would like to see the interior of the roof lined with wood, rather than the silver insulation material. We had a lovely night however the prices are too high and non- inclusive of veg and sauce or bread. All getting very standard in Perth restaurants, but I find it unacceptable. This means that a reasonable plate of food is now $50. So all up, our single course meals, 1 serve veg and I bottle of wine = $148. No dessert at $17 each. All gorgeous but no return soon til we get a bank loan. Prices simply too high, only complaint. Look at Melbourne prices sometime.

Waiting waiting waiting and then the lamb had been shown the pan but not sure if it actually got into it !!.... not very good at all. They really need to lift their game very very disappointing

Very Romantic with nice Seaview and very good ambience. Steak over cooked, very disappointed. Dessert was very good. Service amazing! Still a good time was had by all.
Katie Wilson-Dunn
Went for lunch on a Sunday afternoon, lovely view of the boats and amazing service. Had the scotch fillet medium rare and it was AMAZING. Craving a good steak and this certainly hit the spot, a bit pricey yes but very generous portions and amazingly cooked.

Great restaurant! Fantastic atmosphere friendly staff, prompt service great tasting hot meals loved everything about this place! Beautiful inside, worth every penny for that special date

This is my first time to review a restaurant, but becoming sick and tired of overpriced terrible food and feel the need to share my experience.  Upon arrival we were seated right on top of another couple, considering the restaurant was nearly empty, asked for another table.  The waiter became huffy and when we notice you could dine outside on the water (not offered), we said that's where we would like to sit, he walked off, in hindsight we should have left then.  Given drinks and food menus - ordered a cocktail, but found out the one we had seen on arrival and wonted was on another cocktail list - not presented to us.  Took ages for the drinks to arrive, considering the small amount of dinners there.  Ordered entrée and Main.  I had the Soft Shell Crab, it came sitting on slimy calamari, presentation was terrible, but the taste was worse.  My dinning companion had oysters Kilpatrick and considering the price, expected something fantastic, presented terrible and unappetizing, and very dry.  Main of Linely Valley Pork - pork chop was only eatable thing on the plate, could not decipher any of the other bits on the plate.  My companion ordered the steak, tuff and cold.  Sides of Steakhouse chips with rosemary and sea salt, are better at my local Fish and Chips, the Asparagus broad bean and fetta Salad was completely tasteless. Couldn't find any broad beans.  We had 3 different waiters and not one of them poured our wine after the initial opening of the bottle, for the prices they charge I would have expected a waiter, waiting at our table!Terrible experience and so very annoying to waste a monthly friend catch up over stuck a substandard restaurant.  Hindsight is installed for a reason, I will remember that next time.

I can't speak highly enough of this place, I walked past noting the special board which offered the usuals. I was in the mood for good fish yet the special was salmon. The manager asked what I would like to eat. I said I would love some local pink snapper but your special board only mentioned salmon. He then said to my surprise I can get you a pink snapper. He then walked off towards the Fremantle fish market returning with the freshest snapper ive seen in ages. Asked me how I would like it cooked, offering a wine suggestion. End of story. Fantastic.
Dark Angel
The service was outstanding. But thats where it ends. When paying astronomical prices, you at least expect a delicious and tender steak. I ordered the T Bone, and seriously, I have bought better quality from Woolworths. It was cooked rare instead of medium rare as I ordered, which I didn't mind. What I did mind is that I was given a poor quality cut which was obvious by the taste and the texture. <br/>Did I come on a bad night? I don't know. <br/>I wouldn't even consider giving this place another try because of the ludicrous price structure.
Emz
The staff are nice and friendly. Willing to seat us a minute before they are officially open. Might be minor but I was turned away by a place and asked to wait for 2 minutes for them to open. Fancy 2 minutes ! I guess they really don't know the importance of customer service.<br/><br/>Back to this place. Nice view. Not very impressed by a couple flies in the restaurant. I guess given the flies are out, might be difficult for any restaurants to keep them out.<br/><br/>Tried their wagyu beef steak. Cost is $57 for the steak alone and it comes with mashed potatoes. Generous size for the steak. Had to top up $4 for sauce. Like other reviews, you would think the cost of the steak is $57, surely they can throw in the sauce as well ? Sauce price ranged from minimum of $4. So judging by the picture, the sauce is a must. Otherwise, one would find eating the steak alone hard to swallow. <br/><br/>Needless to say the steak was really tender. Melts in your mouth. Very well cooked by the chef. Only down side i feel is - not much sides to go with the steak. Once the mashed potatoes are gone, you find yourself just chewing/eating the steak on its own and it becomes quite boring after a while when there is no other things on the plate to give an alternate texture.<br/><br/>The barramundi was very good as well. The outside was crispy. Fresh and perfect cooked. <br/><br/>End of my meal, it still troubled me that for sauces we for to pay $4 minimum. There was a $12 for prawn sauce on the menu. I would suggest the restaurant to consider not costing the sauce and make the patrons happy. I think for the patrons who are willing to pay that much for their food would appreciate not being charged for sauce and will be a repeat customer. I think if they were to charge $61 including sauce - customers will accept that and not be charged separately. You get my drift.

Great ambience, nice and relaxed seating by the sea.. Feeling free to hang out and just chat away... Service was great too, the server and manager were friendly. One of the waitress accidentally knocked off a beer bottle and spill it onto my husband's phone. Luckily nothing bad, just surface wiped, no water damage.. Gave us all quite a shock though hahha... Food wise it's okay, price wise is expensive for a steak.. Needed add on like sauce or chips or sides... After the -25% disc from entertainment book at least bring the extras less painful :p special parking bay just right in front of the restaurant marked "private parking" and it's free..

Great dining experience. Friendly staff, beautiful food. You do need to order a side if you get a steak, but only one as they are big servings. Creme brulee is def worth a try for dessert even if you are full!

Amazing steaks. Conservative relaxed ambient feel. Nice staff. Great location. Right on the harbour looking out over the water. Would come back for their steaks alone.

Slightly disappointing steak! For an expensive restaurant I was let down by the lack of diversity in the menu! Would suggest they re vamp their menu, interior and creativity.

No good<br/>Food is nice<br/>Service is very average<br/>I went here because I had a $100 voucher as a gift<br/>Ended up costing $250 for two of us to eat<br/>Cost $12 for a sauce go on your steak ...come on!!!<br/>Extremely overpriced restaurant do not go here there are way better places in Freemantle<br/>Also I don't expect any side is included in your $60 steak<br/>Salads, chips, vegetables none of this is included and all cost extra<br/>

Why is it so hard to get a good steak in Fremantle? OK so maybe we should stick to fish and chips at Fishingboat Harbour... This restaurant always seems empty and there's good reason why.

WA Day evening and with Perth City so quiet and craving a good steak we decided to head into Fremantle and give Char Char Bull a go as it had always been great in the past. I hadn't been there in a while and I certainly was not disappointed. Classy but relaxed atmosphere, prompt, friendly service and beautiful food.  My steak was delicious as was everything that came with it.  Gluten Free options were easy to pick and the Swiss Chocolate Ice cream was to die for!  Great service, great food and some pretty fantastic company made this a really top night. I will definitely be back.

Fabulous!. Went here for a date night with my partner and was very pleased. We arrived early so sat at the single tables at the front of the restaurant and enjoyed 2 delicious cocktails. Once our tables were ready, I think the manager or owner? Kindly took us through and welcomed us. We both ordered steak and didn't wait any more than the average time. The steak was cooked perfectly to how we asked, and the chips were fresh and delicious. We both left very full and pleased. Place was tidy, friendly and delicious!

Decent food but totally long wait. We had a nice time at Char Char Bull.<br/>Food was decent and well priced for the portions and quality but the wait was really long. <br/>Table beside us with kids were getting edgy.<br/>Lovely decor and well mannered staff.
James
Worth the wait for great food!. This is one of my favourite steak restaurant! Great service, however the mains took around 45min to come. Lucky the steak was delicious so it was well worth the wait.

Great food, rember though, kids can be well behaved... One evening after my work finished at 6pm I decided to treat my kids to a meal at Char Char.. at the time (this review is like 5 yrs too late) my boys were 9 and 8..<br/><br/>I remember that the looks we got upon entering was ' oh no, kids' but I let it slide because I'm sure they've had to deal with kids before and some may not have been so well behaved.<br/><br/>We got a table that had white paper as a tablecloth and the waitress brought out some crayons.. my boys thanked her , then we made our orders. As we waited for food, we had fun (yeah me too!) drawing over the paper, we drew trees and gave each other maths quizzes.<br/><br/>The food was awesome. I had a beef dish over creamy mash with a deep flavoursome jus, the beef being soooo melt in the mouth (sorry for the MKR cliche)... the dessert ...omg so lovely - the boys each had a sticky date pudding and myself an Eton mess...the boys gave me a sample and the pudding so was soft and the flavour so lovely, my Eton mess was creamy and gorgeous.<br/><br/>I might brag here and say that the behaviour of my sons was impeccable.. no running around, no noise making, no trantrums because this single mum has brought them up to be good kids, well mannered and they've always been placid. I think this shocked some staff because they all came out and talked to us, including the head chef.<br/><br/>When we left, I paid the bill and I can tell you that their original expressions had changed.. they were smiling..Reminds me... need to pay another visit... I just don't like the parking

Forgiven. We waited a very long time for meals and one steak was undercooked - we pointed out to staff but didn't ask for ask for compensation . To their credit the manager deducted that meal from the bill plus 50% off the entire meal - no prompting from us . It's not often a restaurant takes responsibility for their mistake (:<br/><br/><br/>-----17 Mar, 2015-----<br/><br/>Why are we waiting ???. We have been waiting 40 min for 4 steaks and 1 roo - the place is not at full capacity - how can it take so long ??????<br/>No one has asked if we want more drinks - just removed the empty one- lost opportunity to make more money .....

Great night of food and service. Dined at Chat Char Bull recently and had a wonderful evening. The service was fantastic along with the great food. <br/><br/>The steak was so one of the best that I have had in a long time, cooked perfectly and the caramelised onion and peppercorn jus Devine. The only down side was the Brussel sprouts in the side of Veg.

Surprise 40th wedding anniversary. On the 1st march 2015 I surprised my mum and dad at char char bulls for dinner with family and friends. I booked in for 22 people I opted for set menu which char char bulls were happy to alter for our guests needs. On the night nothing but first class service. Guest had 3 choices of starter and main. Which were all big portions filling and above all super tasty. And presented beautifully. The sweet option looked spectacular on the plate and tasted amazingly. The food was out of this world crazy good. I will be back will out a doudt.

One of our favorites. Love it, great food, great ambience, such a gorgeous location!<br/><br/>We go to the Char Char often and are always guaranteed perfection. Never had a bad meal there. Their hand cut chips are perfection, Angus Scotch Fillet is wonderful, melts in your mouth.

Family dinner disappointing. Ordered the Ravioli for dinner and was very disappointed. Absolute rubbish! I have had better pasta from tins at the supermarket. <br/>We ended up buying Maccas on the way home and if your reading this I suggest you do the same.

This used to be our favorite restaurant however it was very disappointing tonight. The presentation and quality of the food has changed, and not for the better. I'm guessing that the chef might have changed. Unfortunately we won't be back. Meal overpriced and no better than pub food.

Went for a meal here a few days ago with my wife and it was beautiful. From start to finish the staff was brilliant and most of the food amazing. I had the squid an crab for starters and it was class but if I was to complain it would be the fact that it was overloaded with way to much salt. I suspect that was a general mistake tho. My wife had garlic bread to begin with and was really good an loads of it. If we had of known how much garlic bread we would have got we probably would have had it to share instead of 2 starters. For main we both had steak, mine a medium Rib Eye on the bone and it was perfectly done and a taste sensation. My wife had the fillet well done and hers to was beautiful. I had mushroom sauce and my wife had pepper sauce. Both really nice only I'd had liked a bit more sauce than the portion you get. For sides we had chips and crispy onion rings and once again both really nice. All with a bottle of wine we could eat no more so skipped desert. Out of 10 a strong 8 if not a 9. Only deducting a few points because it was pretty expensive but honestly who cares when your getting amazingly good food! Will defo be back

Such a disappointment. We've been here a few times and always enjoy our meal. today was embarrassing. We took friends out for a thank you meal. Zucchini flowers - 2 on a plate and tiny for $22. my husband had the barramundi $42 for the smallest meal in history - 2 roast potatoes the smallest piece of fish so so day. oh I cringed when I saw it. I ordered mussels. The worst I have ever had. no imagination. The tiniest mussels ever witnessed. served with dry Rye bread. Our friends did enjoy the pork. We were supposed to go to rock pools but thought we would stay local. Oh and $12 a glass of chardonnay chosen from an ordinary wine list. Terrible start to new year. Children sitting on next table allowed to enter and sit with NO shoes on! !!! AN explanation and apology for such below standards would be greatly appreciated.

Nope. I looove pasta, so I was looking forward to my crab angel hair spaghetti. Good portion but barely any crab and the pasta was very very dry!<br/><br/>Would most definitely not pay $42 for it

Booked in for dinner at 7pm on a Sunday night. Got there and waited 20 minutes to even get a drink order!! Wasn't busy, entrees were cold, always struggled to get a drink as every wait staff ignored us bar one (Chloe) if she wasn't working we would have left or never gotten served. One wait staff charley, I don't think I saw him do anything the whole night. Mains and cocktails were great!! But for the wait and the $250 price tag we won't be returning.

Return visit Jul 2015: Went for dinner this time. Had a good time but there was one big issue. My wife's pasta was full of broken clam shell. Not pleasant and potential for injury. However, the manager handled things very well and we ended up having a good time. My steak was excellent - one of the best I've had in a while ................................................................................................................................................................... Nov 2014: Much improved from last visit. Our first visit to Char Char Bull some years ago wasn't very good. Decided to try it again because of good reviews on here and it came up trumps. Good food, good service, decent wine list. A bit on the pricey side but the location makes up for that. Wife had the Fire Roasted Quail, I had Shark Bay Crab Angel Hair Pasta. Both excellent.

Desserts - sublime; one out of two steaks very good. Busy Saturday night (25 Oct) with a wedding function in separate room. Waitress was attentive and food came out promptly. My eye fillet was very good (medium rare), however my husband's porterhouse was rubbery and fatty cut. Our guest were happy with their Five-hour slow cooked Beef Cheek Pappardelle Pasta and Seared Kangaroo Loin. <br/>Our desserts sublime. The restaurant was busy but we could talk without shouting. There was no unnecessary music playing. As the restaurant is carpeted and tables are clothed, I would recommend this place for hearing impaired people.

Worst place ever. Overcooked steaks for everyone at the table. Waiter was too busy chatting with the next table to take our order and none of the other staff were inclined to take our order because we weren't sitting in their section. Tried eating the salad served on the side and found a tiny slimey black slug. Told the manager about it and he tried to tell us that was beetroot. Pretty sure there was no beetroot in the salad and that beetroot is not slimey? No apologies at all about it either. Don't bother with this place. You can get better steaks elsewhere!

Fantastic Meal and Service. An absolutely delicious meal and an enjoyable experience. I ordered the pork rib eye and my partner ordered the slow cooked beef cheek. The meat was cooked to perfection and everything was very tasty - even the garlic bread! Most importantly we were extremely impressed with our waitress, Francine, she was efficient, friendly and made our overall experience one to remember!

Pathetic. They like to think that they are a fine dining steakhouse? Get real ....... over priced average quality steak, tacky decor, rude staff.<br/>This place relies on the tourist trade and drunks spilling out from the nearby pubs to survive.<br/>Graham Bolton has clearly lost the passion after all these years

Just had a most excellent evening at char char bull: food was very good, staff were excellent - professional and attentive, service was prompt and efficient, tables well spaced, ambient background noise was unobtrusive- free from loud music to try and talk over ... Six of us ate and all of us loved our food (reasonable portion size and all delicious) and the friendly staff, and the fact we could talk and hear each other without shouting! Pricing was quite good considering location - loved it would go again no worries

Worst meal I've ever had!. I like to dine out a lot! Espically on special occasions !, I found this restaurant to be the worst I've been to to date !, wait staff were to busy gossiping to notice we needed anything, also not a smile on anyone's faces, it seemed like to much of a hard task to put the steak knifes down in a nice manner( thrown on the table), also it's quite pricey! $30- 53 for a steak.<br/>Obivouously wanting the best , we went for the best cut of meat,<br/>For it to be servered still mooing an blooded on the plate after asking for well done! My partner would of done a better job of he went into the kitchen and cooked it himself !, having complained then watched the chef glare at us from the kitchen, awful service, prob the worst dining eXperience I've had in perth! I warn against other diners going to this place! You would do a better job on the bbq!

Mini Fillet. This is a small Fillet Steak, cooked Medium is how I like it. I always get the Garlic Prawn Sauce & a side of Vegies. Friendly service, great view. I do think the price is a little high, but if it's for a special occasion & you want to splurge, this is a nice place.

Best Steakhouse Restaurant South of the river!. Fantastic steaks cooked to perfection! these guys really know what they are doing when it comes to cooking beef. excellent service and wine list to match. A highly recommended restaurant to dine at, while visiting Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour.

Perfect delicious steak and really nice lamb loin. Oysters were really fresh and delicious. Service was very good - friendly and attentive. The pavlova dessert was a bit uninspiring and eggy but overall a nice evening.

Char char bull-crap waiting times!. A disappointing night! It started with waiting 20mins at the bar for our table which was booked. No apologies were made. <br/>Finally when we were seated, and ordered our meals, it took 20mins for our entrees to come (which was reasonable). However, we waited 40mins for our mains (the two of us ordered steak and 2 side dishes) and were neglected by staff whenever we tried to flag them down. <br/>We didn't even bother looking at dessert. <br/>For the price paid, we felt ripped off by the poor service although the food was sort of decent. I wouldn't be going back.

Went to chat chat bulls in Saturday night. Ordered the steak well done and it was very overlooked. Ordered a second glass of wine and that diidnt come. I cancelled the glass of wine. Expensive and I suppose that's because of the view during the day. Second time I have been there and still the same. Won't be going back again.<br/><br/><br/>-----01 Sep, 2014-----<br/><br/>Over rated

Expensive, very small serving...only good thing was the view..... I went to eat the other night there and the food was expensive and the serving were so small that when. I left I was still hungry so ended up going to one of the fish and chips store next it. I order the barramundi plate and I got a plate that looked like a entree.....fish was the size of maybe two 50 cent pieces and I also got two very small halves of potatoes and then it simply had some green sauce on top....never returning to this place...lucky For me I had a discount voucher.<br/><br/>Definitely not recommended!!!!!!

No value!. Service average, prices high for food that mostly lacked flavour. Lack of ambiance. Overall a disappointment.<br/>This restaurant cannot be recommended.

RED RAW!. I decided to give this restaurant another chance and it was another BIG mistake - they pride themselves on having the best steaks in town - that's a joke!. At my table everyone ordered seafood which was delicious - i ordered lamb and it was served very very rare (the waitress omitted to ask me how i wanted it). Not only was it rare a majority of it turned out to be FAT. Even though I commented to the waitress that i was not happy with my meal no effort was made to appease me. A simple compensatory coffee would have been better than nothing at all. IT IS VERY OVERPRICED AND OVERALL I HAVE BEEN VERY DISSATISFIED ON BOTH OCCASSIONS. I WILL NEVER GO BACK.

Average. The service was average. Hard to get the attention of the waiters, dying to order a second drink but could not get anyone's attention. It was so hot inside. I asked two different waiters if the air con could be put on, both said they would find out and get back to me, neither of them bothered. It was so unbearable we ended up not staying for coffee and desert. The slow cooked beef cheek pasta was average. The pasta was really bland. My hubby had the steak. Who sells a $44 steak and then charges an extra $4 for the peppercorn sauce??? Outrageous. Very over priced for what we got. We couldn't even get anyone's attention to bring us the bill. We had an awkward conversation with the waitress at the till about the bland pasta, she told me I was the first person to ever say the pasta was bland. Then offered us a free drink as we were walking out. Very strange. We won't be back.

Hardly any beef on the menu. For a place called Char Char Bull I expected more of a steakhouse than a surf n turf. Although I enjoyed my meal I very nearly didn't even try the place due to its almost-complete emptiness (next to an absolutely packed establishment, never a good sign - but then I don't like noisy eateries so also a good one) and for lack of finding much in the way of red meat on the menu.<br/><br/>I'm glad I did. Although the garlic bread was sized like a main and the pork belly like the starter it was, both were very nice. The garlic bread was very cheap considering portion size and the pork belly was fall-apart perfect on lovely soft lentils. The mixture of flavours was divine and although another slice of apple would have been nice, it was definitely worth the price.
Freo Diner
My partner and I used to go to Char Char Bull for all of our special occasion dinners for both the food and beautiful location. A few weeks ago we had dinner at another restaurant, and decided to head to Char Char Bull for their amazing sticky date pudding. Upon arrival we were greeted by a staff member, and when we told him we were there for desert his response was " it's going to be a 40 minute wait because the kitchens very busy". Now that could have been somewhat understandable, even if we were only there for desert and it would have only taken about 10 minutes to plate up- however the restaurant wasn't even half full! Probably will not be going back as we were made to feel extremely unwelcome. A very disappointing experience from what was a really good restaurant in our books.

Bad food bad service. Very disappointed! It took ages to order a drink. Staff weren't very friendly (seemed under to much pressure) one waitress I fond extremely rude! My fish was not fresh or cooked very well on whole we were all disappointed with our food

Such a great surprise, amazing food not one element that I could fault, great service and beautiful restaurant. A higher priced menu but completely worth it. Definately something for a special occasion or treat.
