Great range of cakes and savoury pies as well. The passionfruit sponge is a childhood favourite - light, fluffy sponge with fresh cream and a nice passionfruit icing that isn't too sweet. You can't pass up a tray of slices or bag of empire biscuits for the road trip.
The loaf cakes are great value and perfect for a tea break. They also have a shelf life of around 5 days, so there's no excuse not to take one home.
They also have a range of local products, including honey, preserves, and Zeally Bay sourdough.
When you’re starved after a sesh on the road . The unmissable blue sign of this institution will draw you in . The pies are Boscastle and satisfy the pie craving . But the passionfruit sponge is the real hero . Finish that one in the car .
Great stop along the GOR. Small range of freshly baked cakes amongst some other goodies such as loaves and pies. Opted for the fluffy chocolate sponge with chocolate shavings and wasn’t disappointed. Extremely soft and fluffy but wish there was a tad less cream between the layers. A great cake overall and would definitely buy again.
While we were wizzing back to Melbourne from the great ocean road we stopped past Freshwater Creek Cake for some essential pie refreshments plus an assortment of cakes and slices. This place has been in operation for decades and is an essential part of the journey for my wife’s family... therefore me. They have a range of good quality local preserves, lollies, chocolate and boutique slices. They are works famous in these parts for their good ole fashioned sponge cake filled with cream.
Today we picked up meat pie and vego pasty for right there and then, some apricot slice, passionfruit vanilla slice and a sponge jam round for an afternoon tea and some sour dough bread for ron.
Good old fashioned baking and quality Boscastle pies.
Will no doubt return when passing through the hood.
Yummy cakes and slices make this place a worthwhile place to stop on the way from melbourne to the surf coast, but if in need of lunch you can't go past the boscastle pies!
We have called in to this somewhat isolated yet delightful little cake outlet many times over the last few years. The cakes, sponges and savory quiches have been consistently well above average. And in addition, the cheery staff have always welcomed us with a broad smile. We have a good friend who has complained to us that the staff there are not so friendly. But he's a bald doggies supporter, so you can't really blame them for that.
Best passion fruit sponge cake ever! Imagine a delicious light, sweet, amazing sponge cake sold on a CWA stall at a country fair. Perfect with a cup of tea in a pretty cup at about 3pm.
It's a small store, but don't let that fool you.
You must try the Princess Sponge! It's to die for. The vanilla slice had good body. I ate the custard pie next. (It didn’t seem as sweat as I am used to, but that could be caused by the previous vanilla slice.)
Then the chocolate eclair. Then the apple shortbread.
Get here early, as the favourites go quick. I missed out on my apple turnovers. But we did get a super soft, light and fluffy sponge with jam and a good inch of whipped cream layered in the middle. Bring self control. It is hard to stop.
Hope you can find a parking spot. This place is a clear favorite stop for many.
We only sampled the cakes, but there are plenty of other goodies as well.
delicious sponge cakes just off the main road.
bought the passion fruit sponge cake and the chocolate sponge cake. both were good but the passionfruit much better (if you only wanted one).
also have lots of other baked goods on offer that I will have to come back and try eventually.
don't miss out if you're on the way to the Great Ocean Road.
We bought the lamb and Beef pies which were really tasty.
But the highlight was the soft pillowy, gorgeous smelling and sooo yummy delicious passionfruit sponge cake I have ever tasted. Not overly sweet but just right.
'Makes a decent birthday cake.' - Alix
'Delicious. They gave me an extra shot in my coffee for free and it motivated me to do a work-out. Then I ate their apple crumble, which I enjoyed. - Tom
'I was first intimidated by your signage. Then I tasted your Apple Crumble, oaty goodness with caremel undertones.' - Anna
'Wonder my surprise at your frozen apple pie. I can let go. She had tears in her eyes, then we put it in the air fryer.' - MM
'Goes well with white creaminess.' - Mook
Yummy cakes and slices! Hummingbird cake was really good. Didn't get a chance to try their pies, coffee was good. Looked like Nana's sponges, treat yourself if driving past...
Cakes and slices are great. Recently tried a pie and was very impressed with the flavour - best take away pie that I've had in a long time.
