Review Mexican Graffiti - Geelong

We had a delicious dinner here to celebrate the end of the school year. The food was absolutely delicious and came out super quick. The cocktails were also very yum! Service was super friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back again soon.

Worst enchilada I ever had. The chicken tastes like nothing. No lime, no coriander, no beans, no season at all! The sauce is a lame, tastes like can. I felt they simply buy stuff from the Mexican area of Coles and put them all together in the restaurant. I've eaten better in a hospital. They don't know what good food is. Also, I awaited 40 minutes for this. Unfortunately I don't have anything positive to write.

Great atmosphere. Reasonable prices and the food is yummy. I recommend trying the bullets. They are amazing. This place is becoming our new go to place

This restaurant was amazing the food was great the fish bowl margaritas was great. Staff were amazing we were there for hours and had such a great time.

Tired and limited. Orders delivered were incomplete or incorrect and arrived haphazardly. Best bit was the cheesy garlic bread. Shout out to the young staff - they get the star - who were lovely and pleasant but struggling (place was far from full). Know hard to get staff but doing a disservice to these young people who were doing their best. Maybe this place rocked in the 80s but lots of better food at better prices elsewhere in Geelong for groups and families. No doubt there are followers of this place, and no disrepect to them, but they seem a lot fewer nowadays.

It's been around 10 years since we have last been to Mexican Graffiti so we thought we should really give them a try again. And well, I'm glad that we did try them again as we won't go back for at least the next 20 years. Ok so where to start. 1 - wanted taco's, but got told, despite them been corn tortillas, they could not do them gluten free and instead had to have los taco's instead. I did say I was happy for them to take an ingredient out if the tacos so that they would be gluten free, but no, there would be no negotiation, if I want gluten free then I have to order from the limited gluten free menu. 2 - we went during COVID in which the government has strict rules with how close you can be to other tables and how many you can have in a venue. Well, I highly doubt these guys understood the rules they had us right in tight next to another table and the amount of people in our section was surely too many. 3 - the quality of the food that we did get was pretty average. Now, that is all the negatives. There were however some positives of the place and it is for this that we did not walk out and go somewhere else. The venue is very kid friendly. They have colouring books to keep the kids entertained. The food is very plain, which while disappointing for the adults it is good for kids. The cocktails were not to bad. In closing, this place is a Geelong icon, it has been around for many years and no doubt will be around for many more to come. They do know there clientele and do cater for them. If you are new to Geelong and are looking for a genuine Mexican experience then stay well away from here. If however you are a family and looking for a different sort of venue to your pubs and want somewhere that is relaxed, easy going and friendly then yeah give these guys a go.

Was once a great restaurant, but seems to be now just microwaved slop that has no taste. Had a function of about 30 people and no one was happy. They really need to have a good look at what they are serving. Nachos were an absolute joke, everything else was flat from being microwaved. A waste of money. Never again.

very disappointed in my experience. attended tonight, and honestly so dissatisfied with the over all meal. i bought the beef burrito with a side of fries. beef had no flavour, what so ever. fries were soft and the over all meal was not hot. cheese was burnt and stuck to the bottom of the plate as if it had just completely melted out. yet, customer service was great, meals came out fast and everyone was friendly. used to be great and a family go too restaurant years ago, but seems to have gone down hill :(

So disappointed - Cajun prawns not at all hot - so disappointed. The rest of the family seemed to enjoy their food. When I asked about the cajun prawns - I was told it was very spicy - I believe they forgot the spices on mine. So so disappointed

Very friendly staffs. However, the food highly disappointed me.

The food came in a tin foil like tray and the food looked like it was microwaved if you expected some fresh meals this is not the place.

Had some hit and miss meals under previous ownership but had dinner with family here at their request last Tuesday night. New (I haven’t been for a while so maybe not new) ownership has turned this place around! Ordered meals and not even 5 minutes later, entree was on the table super hot and fresh and then maybe 10 minutes later so were our mains just as hot and fresh. I was SO impressed that we haven’t been able to stop talking about it.

We had a truly wonderful lunch at Mexican Grafitti thanks in particular to amazing advice, attention and service from Hilary. One of us is celiac and both of us are pescetarian. Not a problem! There is a gluten-free menu, and Hilary talked us through a range of additional options the kitchen could offer to meet our needs. She had an extensive knowledge of the menu, and a delightful, friendly, warm, gentle, and confident style. The food (we both chose GF tofu tacos with frijoles and corn salsa) was fresh and delicious! Hilary even reassured us the kitchen had changed chopping boards, knives and gloves while preparing our meals to avoid any accidental gluten cross-contamination. We were so grateful, as so many restaurant staff are dismissive or even tetchy when we gently and politely ask for help with gluten-free options. The coffee was excellent. Great prices and nice decor. We will be back often!

Overpriced, tasteless, microwaves food. Chicken tacos were watery, the taco shells were supermarket level. The mixed platter was so microwaved the food was stuck to the plate. Really disappointed.

My wife & I are disabled pensioners and my wife is in a wheelchair. We booked a table and when we arrived, we were immediately introduced to our table. Within 5 minutes, a very friendly waitress gave us a menu each. We chose our meals and she came back to take our orders. My wife chose a chicken burrito with rice & corn salsa. I ordered La combination ( chicken enchilada, chicken taco, chicken taquito, rice & beans). The burrito was very nice. My enchilada was nice & tasty but the taco, taquito & beans needed some seasoning, salt, pepper anything! A little disappointed considering we traveled a round trip of 140 kms by taxi just to eat here. I ordered the Jalapeño bullets and I'm glad I did. They were outstanding. A little seasoning would have made a 4 star meal 5 stars.
Quite disappointed with my visit to Mexican Graffiti. When my friend told me we were going out for Mexican for her birthday I was so excited for a big, fat, bean/rice and guacamole filled burrito. I couldn’t help but laugh in disbelief when my plate came out. I ordered the chicken burrito with chips and corn salsa on the side. The burrito - a sad, small, empty piece of slop - only had some chunks of chicken and some weird wet tomatoey liquid inside. The fries looked like they’d been bought straight from maccas and put onto the plate. The corn salsa was mainly shredded iceberg lettuce with cucumber. There was no guacamole even though I asked if it came in the burrito. The meal had no flavour. Most of my friends didn’t finish their meals. In terms of atmosphere, I felt like I was sitting in a camp cafeteria. Overall it was a very disappointing experience and I don’t think I’ll be returning to Mexican graffiti. Some people may enjoy that type of food and environment but it definitely isn’t my cup of tea.

Always enjoy the Mexican here. Best in Geelong if you just want normal Mexican food not this fancy stuff popping up all over the place ! The beef tachos are the go to! Service always great as well
Ribena
Great service, and I like the ambience, but not the most authentic Mexican food. It's a bit hit and miss - with the food being great on some days, and not the best on others.
Mark Fox
Terrible customer service. They made an error and served medium nachos instead of the small nachos ordered. Did not realise until pay point when they read back the order for payment. Refused to alter bill. Explained did not even realise we had been served a medium size. Cashier argued point as we had eaten most of it. She went and spoke to owner. Came back saying they would only charge us for the small. Paid and asked for the receipt. Charged for the medium nachos. Blatantly lied. Didn't bother anymore and left. They have now lost a customer who visited there several times a year and quite often for birthday gatherings. All over $4. Not impressed.

We walked in and my whole dinner group and I all felt like inconveniences to be there, the staff were not very welcoming and to top it off my meal consisted of dry rice and disappointing vegetarian tacos.
Bird Of Prey
This was pretty ordinary for someone who loves good Mexican. The avocado dip looked like it had been made 3 days prior and the staff weren't that excited to see us. A good venue for kids, but we won't be back anytime soon
Hailey
Very basic and plain meals, not sure if that's due to only picking vegetarian options. The flags are certainly the highlight. Service is quite good, friendly.
Dugfish
Not sure why it gets so many bad reviews. Food was good - fairly plain but I prefer that to heavily salted / spiced, service was fine, the only issue was that it was noisy as it was well patronised. I'd go again for sure.

Not what I call Mexican.... My husband and I thought we would try this restaurant, on a Friday night was really busy and thought this was a good sign.
However one of the worst restuatant experiences we have had! Service was slow and unfriendly, the meals came out before the drinks. The food was awful, being gluten free and a nacho fanatic I chose nachos which was just a plate of cheese with a tiny side pot of sour cream and another pot of sweet chilli sauce??!
My husband got the burrito which was cold and tasteless with a side of fries.
Our 'margaritas', my favourite - lemon, shaken, salt; were absolutely horrid, actually tasted like dishwashing liquid served in a plastic martini glass with clumps of salt barely scattered over the rim and not even a hint of tequila...we had to send them back and get promptly out of there.
Really an awful experience especially when we rarely get out for dinner.... Stay away!!
Jtp
Slow service. Overpriced. Vegetarian burrito consisted of steamed, unseasoned vegetables.

This restaurant used to be the place to go when I was younger but now the food is terrible, overly priced and offered by people who clearly do not enjoy their job
Aurei
There's nothing good about this place! Service is lousy, the food is microwaved and overpriced and the toilets are dirty! Stay away!

Festivus - Okay..more of a family spot. It was better than Ok so worth a tick
Typical Mexican ambience and pricing
Food was good .... Service a little slow
Kathee
I can't believe how bad the service was, first the waitress forgot to bring out our drinks then when she did bring the drinks there was a fly in one of them. The first meal arrived and 30 minutes later we had to ask for the second meal and again wait for the second. This is just not acceptable sorry we won't be back...

Bad Mexican Food. I have been going to Mexican Graffiti on and off for the past 25 years. It used to be great, and I always recommended it to my friends, but sadly no more.
Tonight I had undoubtedly the worst dining experience possible. Main courses arrived literally within 3minutes of our ordering before the drinks and before the Entrée. How could they be cooked in this time??? The answer was obvious when the "meals" arrived cold, unappetising really the WORST!!
Would warn everyone off going. This consumer is talking with his feet and I will no longer be a customer and will not be recommending Mexican Graffiti to anyone else.
Lisa Hickey
Likes it. Lovely food, great service, but a little over priced. I had a before 7pm special wrap full of salad, and a side of fries. Huge meal. Hubby had chilli can carne was a little small. My all time favourite at this place is churros for desert. :-)

Don't listen to the rating!!! This place is much better than the current 39% it's rated at!

We have been to Mexican graffiti almost monthly for a number of years now. They are extremely consistent with their good. The salads and vegetables are always very fresh. The food tastes good. It's not fine dining so don't expect fancy foods, it simple and always a fun experience! The service has been fantastic of late. Very positive and attentive.

If you want a casual, filling and tasty meal that won't break the bank, Mexican graff is where it's at!

Never again. Have been going to this restaurant going on 20 years and sorely disappointed in my experience tonight. You would think with the number of bad reviews on here that they would lift their game but no. I ordered Taquitos thinking I would try something other than my normal supreme nachos. What I got had no flavour what so ever and the beef was dry and claggy. The "salsa" on the taquitos looked as thought it had been in the microwave and was also dry. Luckily I had fries on my plate to have something decent to nibble on. What used to be a beautiful, tastebud explosion of a restaurant has turned very sloppy in what it presents as meals.

Best Mexican in Geelong! Always happy when I leave!

We ordered the seafood basket and the ribs for takeaway. Apart from the portion are small, Our seafood basket had really thick batter. I will not be back.

Great!. Mex Graffiti is the best!!! Oily, fatty... straight to your arse goodness!!! Sometimes the service is slow! But usually pretty good!
Daniel
Normally pretty good!. I love Mexican Graffiti - we always go there and it is usually pretty good. I think they must have new chefs or something because the meals have gone down hill! I ordered nachos and they chips were stale. The chicken Enchilada had hardly any chicken or cheese and it was over cooked. The food was really dry & looked as though it had been sittin gin the oven for hours. The taco in the LaCombination was also soggy and broken!
Goldy
Awful service and the food not good either!
Jacob
This place has gone downhill majorly. The food itself was OK (apart from minced beef that tastes like tuna). The lady on the door could learn to smile once in a while and stop taking calls when people are standing there waiting. Mains took an hour to come out after we finished our entree.
Shane
Skip it. Horrible service and dry food wont get me back. Waste of money

This is a restaurant with food like your mum used to make back home. Except your mum did a better job of it. The staff were even worse than the food as if it were troubling them to ask for service after being seated for 15 min. The waitress refused to ask my friend his order, instead asked me, 'what does your black friend want?' The food was mediocre at best and was short ingredients advertised in the menu. I think this was the worst food experience in my life, and I've eaten dog food as a joke once. Don't bother.

$5 My Arse!!!. I went into this terrible restaurant with a group of friends and saw on the menu "Nacho Wedges - $5" You beauty!!! I ordered the meal and when it came out to me I was shocked at how huge the meal was, I scoffed it down with some help from a few chums of mine. When the time came to pay for our meals I smugly slapped my $5 note on the table and made my way to the exit. When suddenly it was brought to my attention that my meal WAS NOT $5! and was in fact $25!! WTF MEXICAN GRAFFITI!?!

Great meal

20/9/12. La Combonation. The taco was fallen from its wrong placement (the mouth facing downhill) and it had broken, and was soggy there. I have eaten this meal at this restaurant fifteen times; obviously I like both however today's was careless and unloved.
FueledbyFood
Poor service. Waitress looked like she'd rather be somewhere else. Mediocre food. Avoid this establishment!
Tasouls
Terrible food and terrible service! The food was flavorless and lacked any Mexican flair. The raise the flag for service concept obviously didn't work and we had 4 successive meals come to our table that we hadn't ordered. Value wise, get more meat in the khan special sizzler at $19 than you do for the fajitas for two at $37.50! Never coming back, do not recommend you go!
Rebecca Carabott
Great tacos the best in town, better than any in Melbourne.... The manager is great, really customer focused and passionate about what he does!!
Kate
NO EFFORT. Worst mexican food Ive ever had!! Nachos came out looking brown and yuk, everything was just sloppy on a plate. Wont ever go back to this place. Service is beyong terrible, waiters cannot even be bothered serving u or looking at u. Its really not that hard to make nachos!!
Kat King
Worst Mexican I've ever had. Don't waste your money!
Indo
Really horrible food. Really horrible service. Should of stayed at home.
James Yule
One word. Terrible. This isn't an authentic Mexican restaurant. What Mexican restaurant offers chips, lasagna and teriyaki chicken? Their prices are cheap, but doesn't balance with quality. The food is still frozen and hard, just steaming hot. The beans I got with my beef combination looked like dog food. And the lame idea of raising a flag to get served? The waiters don't even notice half the time so you still end up having to ask. Definitely do not recommend. Taco Bill all the way!
Geelong Diner
OK for a party with your clueless young relatives. This place has always presented Tex Mex at it's worst.

Been around since I was a tadpole, and that's saying something.

It's always been fun. The closest you'll get to true Mexican cuisine in there is taking in a pinata.

Go the jug of margaritas and whack down a plate of Coon nachos and then get the mojito out of there.

I say this with love. I've had many great nights at Mex Graffiti, just no great dining experiences. :)
Jo
Worst service. The food was abysmal, but it was nothing compared to the absolute lack of customer service provided! Waitresses appeared sullen and even insulted when we tried to order anything from them.
On a table of 15 not one person could find anything but negative things about our wait staff & food. Drinks took half an hour to arrive, orders were messed up and entrees were not even brought out (but still appeared on the bill) and in the 3+ hours we were there not one apology was uttered and when questioned about the mistakes made they were downright rude!
never ever going there again!!!
Ben Crawford
Oops. I dont mind the drab decor,i dont mind the funny flags you raise when ready to order but uneducated waiter/waitresses who forget and stuff up orders and offer no apology or service outside of this aint cool.drinks were empty,no offer of more.food was okay but sooo not a legit mexican restaurant.ate, paid, got the "f" outta dodge.never been back.sorry guys, train your staff or forget about it.
Runya Ibraheim
Decor - fail Menu - fail Service - fail Food fail Should have trusted my senses when I saw teriyaki chicken on the menu, not very Mexican.
Matt Rollo
People who like this restaurant wouldn't know Mexican food if it hit them in the face! You'd get a better meal using old el paso products!

I love the atmosphere of this place very good value food I was so full I had to loosen my belt before leaving. Whenever we go to Geelong for the day we will have lunch at Mexican Graffiti.
