It was time for dinner in Gisborne and I was on the look out for Chinese. I saw Emperor Tang Restaurant and decided to eat there. I was the only dining in customer, but there were several takeaway customers patiently waiting.
The ambience is very pleasant and wait staff very attentive.
I had the prawn dumplings which were just right. Next was the shredded boneless duck which was delicious.
Well worth a visit.
We love it, it's local, open 6 days per week and the food is great. Everything is cooked fresh, the menu is extensive and you can BYO without being charged a fortune for corkage. The short soup is exceptional, the san choi bao as good as I have had and the tofu with snow peas is delicious. My partner usually orders duck which he loves but has enjoyed many of the items on the menu. The staff are lovely and always make us feel very welcome. If you are in a hurry, you need to let them know but if you enjoy a relaxing dinner with good food, it's perfect.
We've been a fan of Emperor Tang's for many years. They have that little bit of 'class' that is lacking in some local Chinese restaurants. White tablecloths, candles and not too crowded, plus a specials board with some really nice dishes. I recommend, matter of fact, I'm going there tonight!
