Awesome..traditional food.. great atmosphere..a must place to eat
If you think you've found a better greek restaurant in Melbourne you better not drive home because you must be higher than willie nelson on 4th July
Years ago, this place used to be what was then, my favourite Greek restaurant in Melbourne, called Dips. Now it's replaced with That Greek Tavern, and I thought I'd give it a try and see what it's like there now as a whole new place. The aesthetics are the same for the most part, though freshened up a lot, and nice and clean. It's inviting and the staff greet you warmly and take you to your table promptly.
The menu is fairly extensive for entrees, with the mains a little bit more limited. A lot of meat platters and the usual fare. Prices seem a bit steep, but when you see the food come out, you know you're getting value.
I had the Whitebait for my entree and they were really good. There are heaps, so you could easily share them. I shared the chicken platter for main, and I have never, ever had chicken so succulent before. It was sooooo good, that there was not a shred caught between my teeth anywhere (I had no other use for my straw like I usually do elsewhere, lol). It was so moist and tender and cooked perfectly in a beautiful marinade. The others had lamb and said it was perfect and not in the least fatty. We shared a bowl of chips for the table (four of us) and it was ample.
The service was friendly, and the food came out fast. The music gave the night a nice atmosphere and yes, there's value for money. Would I come back again and recommend it to people? You bet. It'd be good for mid size groups of people or even for parties of two-four. Parking is easy and if you love Greek food, I'm sure you'll love it here too!
Friendly staff and great food every time
Very delicious dishes, generous portions, great ambience with nice music. Didn't have any room for yummy desserts unfortunately. Highly recommended for Greek food lovers
Solid 4 star restaurant!! Mixed platter for four is reasonably priced. The salad had flavour and was enjoyable, dips were amazing. The service was great and they gave off that family vibe I would recommend that if you love Greek food you must try this tavern.
Came here on a Saturday night with friends eager to get into a mix platter š
We ordered the the spicy feta dip which was tasty and the eggplant dip which wasnāt as Smokey as most eggplant dips. Both dips were served with some oily but delicious bread.
We ordered the mix platter that came with lamb, chicken, cutlets and meatballs.
Other than the chicken being a dry the rest was delicious and the lamb was phenomenal ! Crispy as hell on the other and juicy in the inside.
The service was very friendly and attentive and the food came out super quick!
Would definitely come here again.

I have been feeling under the weather lately, and been coughing like crazy! I'm still amazed by how much mucus my body can produce. If there's one advice I can give you guys, it's don't exercise when you're not feeling well! Early last week, I met up with a friend to play table tennis. I got an amazing cardio workout that night, but boy have I paid for it since. My friend is a pretty 'careful with his money' type of guy, so he's always looking for bang for buck places to eat. Surprisingly his track record with food recommendations hasn't been too bad! Thankfully on this particular night I was introduced by him to That Greek Tavern, and I thoroughly enjoyed this meal.
We had the $35pp banquet and as always it was scrumptious. The entrees included mixed dips, pita, saganaki and sausage and the main was Greek salad and mixed meats. The food was fresh and authentic. We will keep coming back!
Been here a number of times and it never disappoints.Ā Turning into a personal favourite as far as Greek places go.
I usually tend to end up going with the meat platter.Ā Ā The beetroot salad as a side makes for an excellent accompaniment.
The dolmades are a little small and served cold (my preference is hot), but they are pretty good regardless.
Service is friendly and the meals come out promptly.
Love this place. This fantastically authentic Greek restaurant provides a warm and friendly environment with great food. Everything we tried was fantastic and served super quickly. The meat platter for 2 was big enough for 3 with the lamb cutlets being our favourite. Finished off with Greek coffee we all left full and happy. Definitely recommend and will be back.
Came for dinner with a group of friends, we all ordered the set menu number 1 which was more than enough for us all (and then some, so much extra leftover we had to take it home as the meat was barely touched!)... really liked the atmosphere of the restaurant, and the assortment of mezze offered, we ordered some extra octopodi and calamari but probably didnāt need it in the end as we didnāt end up finishing everything... and there were 8 of us. All the dishes were really nice and coffees and sweets at the end of the meal included in the banquet were a nice compliment.
