Review Elephant Corridor - Glen Waverley

Keyur Dandekar
Excellent place to have some spicy SriLankan food. We really liked the service and the food. Although they had an altered menu to select from on Mother’s Day, it still had a lot of variety to it. We had the butter chicken, the chicken tikka (you get 3 pieces but because there were 4 of us eating chicken they offered to add one piece at extra cost), the salt and pepper calamari SriLankan style (as an entree, there is an option to upgrade it to mains), kukul mas (chicken) curry, green jackfruit (polos) curry, string hoppers, and wattalapan. We absolutely loved the spicy kukul mas curry and the mildly flavoured green jackfruit curry. Both had distinct taste to it. The chicken tikka is one of the best that we’ve had in this area. Wattalapan is something that we tried for the first time and was a bit too sweet for our liking. They have a humble drinks menu to select from as well.

Best garlic naan and amazing crab curry. Amazing food that can't be faulted - will come here again and again. Portions are value for money, too. Wasn't expecting that much crab in the curry! It just kept giving :)

Food was decent, the goat curry was a bit spicy for me but the meat was perfectly cooked. They can work on their desserts. It was more about the service. They say it that you will always remember how someone makes you feel and so it was an experience to remember right from organising a table till the end. I just forgot to ask her name but I will remember the way she smiled even when she was super busy. #39

Went for an anniversary dinner hoping for authentic flavours and a tasty dining experience. Unfortunately, we were utterly disappointed with the flavours textures and spice mixes of the meals. Even the basic drinks were way off the mark. Hoppers were cold and lacked the crunch, prawn curry was way too mild after asking for spicy, dry pork was ok but lacked seasoning and lacked balance of flavours. Biriyaani was not good at all as the rice, meat and the overall flavours were completely lacking. Poor cuts of meat. One star for staff, cleanliness and time of service. Will not recommend if you are looking for authentic wholesome indo-sri lankan flavours.

Amazing place. Must visit if you want to try Srilankan cuisine. Many vegetarian and vegan options. Great experience and service. Kotthu paratha is recommended.

We ordered a chicken kottu and a Sri Lankan style fried rice. They were both so good and felt like we were back at home. Staff was friendly and they only took less than 10 minutes to get us food. Loved the ambience of the place

Amazing food, waitresses were very friendly and kind. However, I ordered a Jack Daniels for $8.90 and literally had a drop in a glass. Not worth the alcohol, definitely worth the food! 😄

Was on our list of restaurants to go for a while and we went there the first thing once the lockdowns lifted and this place certainly didn't disappoint! Loved all the dishes we ordered - Goat biryani was perfectly balanced with it's spices with the meat tenderly cooked. Paneer masala had a very nice peanut mix in the curry base and the red prawn curry complimented the rice really well. Veg kothu was actually the star of the day for us with a nice smoky aftertaste! Great experience overall

Great place with good quality Indian/Sri Lankan food. I was here with friends and we enjoyed the food so much the conversation was silent from us continually eating. Only feedback would be to keep the beer stocked up, the two beers we chose were unavailable so then we had a bottle of wine, which tasted good. Nonetheless would come back when I’m craving Indian food cause the place and food were great

we had dinner today at elephant corridor today. we ordered the hot butter prawns for entry ,beef kottu and chicken kottu for dinner and dessert was chocolate biscuit pudding and cream caramel . Every dish was tasty. we were very satisfied with the level of service as well. The staff was very attentive and friendly. we will be back.

Great experience here!!!<br/>The staff was quite attentive, tried to explain the tasting course they had when we visited.<br/>Food wise, omg, super amazing! We can even choose our spiciness level for the food.<br/>When we ordered, we thought it was not gonna be enough, but we ended up struggling to finish bcs the portion was generous.<br/>For someone who rarely taste Sri Lankan food, I'd say that this place is amazing and they're super brave in using spices, which create super colourful Flavor.<br/>Will definitely come back 😚😚

I was excited to go elephant corridor because of the reviews and we made a special trip out there. However, it’s highly overrated! We arrived at 9:05 pm and haven’t even sat down the staff remind us the kitchen will close at 9:30 pm and we need to order ASAP. If the kitchen is closed at 9:30 pm then you should clearly state that the restaurant close at 10 pm, not 10:30 pm. We waited 20-25mins for the food. It’s ok, we don’t mind waiting but food-wise it wasn’t amazing at all. There were a few girls walking around but I would say they offered poor services, not so friendly and too much attitude…I won’t be returning their anytime.

One of the more authentic food restaurants that I've been to. Their hoppers are light and the curries are delicious! Couldn't fault the food here.

Sri Lankan food full of flavour. Nice little place :)

We made a special trip out here after checking google for a late night restaurant. It wasn’t even 9pm and we were turned away at the door because it was a quiet night and they weren’t staying open. Disappointing

Amazing Sri Lankan food, I have been recommended by so many people to try this place and finally went ! I did not realised how similar Sri Lankan food was to Vietnamese/Chinese food i.e the spring hopper noodles and the kothu <br/>We loved the chicken curry ,this was very spicy so beware ! The beef kothu was very reminiscence of a sweet and sour sauce I have at home <br/>

Welcoming service upon entry. The restuarant is somewhat dim lit and the place is quite cosy.<br/><br/>Not too filling and slightly pricey, I did thoroughly enjoy the butter chicken even for the small portion which was full of spices and aromatic. The chicken was tender and slighlty sweet.<br/><br/>Out of the 3 naans we ordered - plain, butter and garlic, the butter was my favourite. All of which were all plump, soft and bready.<br/><br/>

Walking into this place for the first time gave me the feeling I would be well taken care off. The front of house was quick to greet and tried to sit us as soon as possible. The service was prompt and friendly too. The ambiance is classy, tasteful and cozy. We looked through the mouthwatering menu and was told that they still had 2 serves of Crab curry (usually available for their Thursday service). We jumped at it and ordered a serve of that (crab curry), dry pork curry, pol sambol, bitter gourd & onion salad and a serve of idli appam (string hoppers - a serve is 15 string hoppers).<br/><br/>The crab curry came with all the crab eating apparatus (minus your own hands) and a serve of lightly toasted thick sliced white bread to mop up all that absolutely luscious and soooooo tasty sauce. Husband and I were so glad we weren’t on our first date as we were savages! We absolutely demolished the crab! We later ate the pork curry with the sambol, salad and the idli appams. They were all fantastic together! The pork curry had very deep flavours and the meat is meaty yet tender to the bite. The idlis were freshly made, soft and perfect. Pol sambol seem like a simple side dish, easily overlooked and taken for granted but not here! They used freshly grated old coconut meat to make the sambol (like it is meant to in tropical Sri Lanka). A lot of people are iffy about bitter gourd but the bitter gourd and onion salad is tangy sweet. The very thinly sliced bitter gourd is deep fried to a crisp first before being coated in the sweet-sour sauce with

Loved the layout and design of the restaurant was gorgeous, the style and look of the place was a 10/10 but that’s where it ends for me. food wise it wasn’t amazing at all! I could’ve gone to a hole in the wall to get best quality food and for a cheaper price.

Took my parents to hoppers night as a treat and it was a disappointing experience. The hoppers were tasteless although I can appreciate that the batter was paper thin. The egg hoppers were delish but the milk hoppers were a huge disappointment. Note to chef: true Sri Lankan paarl hoppers don't require the patron to put their own milk in the cold hoppers themselves - the milk should be put in at the cooking phase and made to melt in with the hoppers batter. The sambol was made with rancid coconuts. My dad ordered a cheese naan and they were too late bringing it out. When we said to forget the naan because we were finished eating, they said they had already started, which was a lie as it took another 10 mins for the naan to come out.<br/>Total bill was $110 which included two glasses of not-that-great wine.<br/>Won't be back as Melbourne has some amazing other hopper restaurants.

Hands down, THE BEST Sri Lankan food I've had in Melbourne !<br/><br/>My friend and I went here for dinner the other day and we ordered the chicken kothu and lamprais ( both requested to be spicy ). The chicken kothu was delicious and incredibly spicy, as promised. It was accompanied by a small quantity of sauce which was equally enticing. I had the Lamprais which consisted of the fish ball ( a cutlet ) , sambol , a mixture of chicken, pork and lamb curry and fried ash-plantain. I personally , love fried ash plantain. It’s a favourite for me when cooked at home and when I tasted it here, it tasted the same. The curry was also really spicy as requested. I recommend ordering this curry as it was a really interesting combination of all the three meats and tasted absolutely delicious. <br/><br/>All of the dishes I tasted at Elephant House werr very authentically Sri Lankan. I cannot speak for their other cuisine dishes that the restaurant presents but I can definitely guarantee that they comply to their promise of authentic Sri Lankan food. <br/><br/>The ambience of the restaurant is great and the staff there are extremely accommodating. I remember having visited them on a very hot day and the staff were very accomodating to our comfort levels despite it being busy at the restaurant. I have tried a couple of different restaurants for Sri Lankan food in Melbourne but this one’s taken the prize for me. It might be a little bit on the pricier side for some, but I guarantee that it's worth it!

I’ll be extremely blunt about this place and short on my review as Im unimpressed. <br/><br/>It’s overrated and oily, fatty and they offer small portion sizes for an expensive price. <br/><br/>Each dish is offered in a small manner, the drinks are average and the service staff need to be more professional. <br/><br/>The place itself is too restrictive in size and seating. <br/><br/>There’s really not much else for me to tell as there are better places that offer curries and other Indian/Sri-lankan cuisine for a better price yet have a superb quality with none of the over flowing cholesterol, fat, oil and salt.
Ken
[Rice Dishes] Sri Lankan Lamprais (Dutch Burgher delicacy) $22.5: Excellent.<br/><br/>[Mains from The Tandoor] Tandoori Chicken (Half) $15.9: Ordinary, lack of strong tastes.<br/><br/>[Desserts] Kulfi Pista $9.9: Extraordinary.

Came for dinner here on Saturday with my partner (K). Absolutely loved the flavors in all the dishes we had! I am a vegetarian, and finding good Kothu is a challenge. Other places overload it with cabbage and it ends up tasting like coleslaw, but Elephant Corridor does an awesome job at making vegetarian dishes stand out, instead of just being an option. K (the meatarian :) ) enjoyed his Chicken Kothu to bits! <br/><br/>Besides their amazing Kothus, the jackfruit curry and the sheekh kebab (from K’s review) were delicious! Highly recommend them!<br/><br/>Definitely one of those places you make a regular :)

Is one of the best place to have some quality curries. It is quite pricy but the price match the quality. Best choice for me will be red prawn curry, generous amount of prawns and well mixed seasoning/ spices. The egg plant and potato dish is also amazingly made, hint of sourness blends into the light chili flavor. Fish curry is dependable, the fish itself is like chunk of can fish poured into curry, was not a great experience, overall, it is a place to visit when I feel like having some curries.
I Love Food
Dined for dinner with work colleagues. We shared the devilled chicken, butter chicken, lamb rogan josh, chicken biryani & goat biryani with plain & garlic naans. I also had the ginger kid mocktail. All dishes were delicious with different flavours & spice levels. Very reasonably priced. Service friendly. Will return to try other menu items.
Rog
Food ok very rich and buttery. Very loud doof doof music which seemed inappropriate for this setting. I complained and they lowered it a tiny bit. The loud music caused patrons to have to shout over the noise making the whole dining experience uncomfortable. We gobbled down the food and got out of there never to return.

We went for a late lunch on a Sunday.. reached the place at 2pm and it wasn't crowded.. intact it was nearly empty. Before getting a table we were told that the kitchen closes in 30 mins which helped us order faster (a good I must say).<br/>We ordered a chicken kothurotti, jackfruit curry, Kashmiri naan and cheese chilly naan (requested them to add garlic butter on it). Surprisingly the food was quick and fresh. The food was exceptionally good and reminded us of home. So many spices and the flavor of cinnamon and black pepper really came through. The staff is respectful and friendly. Definitely a must visit when you are closer to Glen Waverley.<br/>Looking forward to try their hoppers which are available only on Sunday and Monday nights. Overall a good experience.

Our go to for Sri Lankan food! The service is always good, highly recommend making a reservation as it’s a small restaurant. The only negative in this restaurant is that it’s a very small space so the tables are quite close to one another. <br/>The must try dishes <br/>Sri Lankan style Salt and pepper Calamari: always cooked to perfection and has a great spice to it! <br/>Butter chicken ( not Sri Lankan) : great portion size and flavour. <br/>Black pork curry : I love this! Meat is soft and coasted in a rich blend of spices.. always reminds me of Sri Lanka. <br/>Koththu Roti: best street food but in a more refine manner. They have it in chicken , lamb or beef! I love the chicken one. <br/>Goat Curry: the meat is soft and the curry sauce is delish! But similar to the Pork curry. <br/>Highly recommend you try this place out! <br/>

I have been going to Elephant Corridor for years now and decided to go there again recently as my parents were visiting from overseas. They too have loved the food in the past. The experience this time however left a lot to be desired. On entering, we had a table booked for 4 but were told very rudely that in fact it was a booking for 2. On looking around the restaurant, i noted that there were a number of empty unreserved tables so there was no real need for the rude comment that it was a table for 2 that was booked. We then sat at a table in a corner after which 5 minutes in, a big cardboard container fell off a shelf and landed on my mum’s head, mistakes happen and we didn’t make a deal of it. On asking to move, we moved to a couch which on sitting on, sunk low and we pretty much fell off! Therefore we moved for the 3rd time. Finally the food arrived, taste in general was average- all the curries tasted pretty much the same. The Seekh kebab that we ordered was rubbery and could not even be eaten. We told the waiter that the kebab was overcooked and inedible, and the lady who served us was apologetic and asked if we could have another one brought to us, however since we had finished the rest of the meal we said we would just like that to be taken back. The bill then arrived and we found that we had been charged for the Kebab , on asking the lady who served us she said that shouldn’t have happened and the least they could do is take this off the bill. The manager- Gaya- however came to us and abruptly said well you ate it, so this would obviously be charged. There were 4 people on the table and we took 1 kebab, which only on trying to eat, we found was inedible and then wasted, Im not sure how he would have expected us to find a dish inedible without tasting it! Either way, it isn’t about paying for this dish that i leave this review, it’s the attitude of the ‘manager’ and the below average food overall . Suffice to say, i will never return to this restaurant. It was supposed to be a special dinner with my parents who were visiting from overseas and we however left shocked and disrespected - i even wrote the restaurant an email asking for someone to call to discuss this , however never had a response and therefore decided to leave this review.

The Glen, renown for difficult parking and heaps of restaurants that’s pumping with customers on every night regardless if it’s a weekday or weekend. Work organised a dinner and Indian cuisine was on the agenda, a booking at Elephant Corridor was made on a Tuesday night. If you are driving, you might get lucky and be able to snag a spot in front of the restaurant but if not, I’d suggest you make your way to the car park complex because you’ll be guaranteed a spot AND it’s free! The restaurant itself was quite darkly lit (guess it’s more date-y??) but the staff were super duper friendly and welcoming.

Had a lovely meal here, ordering the beef kothu, chicken tandoori, goat curry, lamprais and garlic naan. Our favourite was the garlic naan, goat curry and beef kothu. Chicken tandoori was a bit dry and service was average. Overall this restaurant has a great atmosphere - will be back for the kothu!

Located in the busy “Glenny” food district this Sri Lankan restaurant with a touch of Indian really delivers in flavour and value. We ordered the famous Sri Lankan Lamprais and the half tandoori chicken with a bottle of Spanish red wine and felt rather diverse. Lamprais without being overly traditional was cooked well with great combinations as pictured. Tandoori chicken is a dish that’s very difficult to get wrong and there was no exception here. An authentic menu as much as it can be with some great Sri Lankan and Indian options to choose from. Rarely been disappointed here and worthwhile if in the area.

I went the elephant corridor with 2 other friends and we all had severe food poisoning. This place recycles their food and healfh department needs to close this place down

Food— the Sri Lankan lamprais was delicious and filling. <br/>Ambience— the place is full but staff are able to accommodate customers quickly. <br/>Service— friendly staff.

Had a yummo dinner here the other night with some friends. Decent portions, v flavoursome and good presentation. We got only vegetarian options (jackfruit curry, fried cauliflower and okra, and vegetarian biryani) and it was delicious. Gotta say though, if you like spice, make sure you ask for it hot. We hesitated a bit and asked for medium level spice, so the food was not very spicy - next time we'll definitely ask for it spicier!

This is one of the better Indian restaurants Glen Waverley has to offer. The place is small and cozy and generally they are quite busy which can sometimes mean that you may not get a seat when you walk in on a weekend. The food is nice although I feel the restaurant is quite pricey for the quantity they provide. The containers you get the dal in is very deceiving and I feel the quantity does not justify the price they are charging. Overall a good place, if you’re in a mood to get some Indian food and live near Glen Waverley, this could be your place but there are plenty of other restaurants that offer similar quality food for better quantity and cheaper rate.
AC
It was my first time dining at this restaurant. Ambience of the place was noisy and busy which added to the charm of the place. The service was really good and we had a lot of help with the menu. The food was delicious and we would have over-ordered if we were not stopped. We had a couple of specials. The fish special had a good kick and unfortunately the fish used (I believed it was tuna) was a little dry. The breadfruit curry was delicious.. would loved to have more breadfruit in it though). The goat vindaloo was my favourite. I would definitely return to the restaurant to try more items in the menu.

We went for lunch on Mother’s Day and we had the banquet which was really good value. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. I highly recommend this place for authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. We will be back again.

The food was good and the service was excellent. Gayant displayed excellent customer service skills making the experience very memorable. Highly recommend

I miss the friendly customer service we used to receive a few years ago! I went with a couple of friends during the weekend and the two girls serving weren't very friendly. Bring back the old friendly staff. Even though the food was good we don't feel like coming back to be served by not so friendly staff. Customer service is paramount at restaurants!
Sumaiya Rizvi
Loved the devilled beef, go medium if you love your chillies and spice. My chilly tolerance is pretty high and was advised by friends that anything more than medium would be too spicy to enjoy! I’m glad I listened, can’t imagine eating anything more spicier that what we ordered. Sadly their cashew curry is no longer on the menu, it would have been ideal to have along the devilled beef. They chicken cooked in spinach and potatoe fry were the other two side dishes we got, portions were fairly small, but nevertheless tasty. Hope they bring back the cashew curry!
Elissa Raines
Yummy Indian food but quite pricey compared to your standard Indian/ Sri Lankan restaurants. I would come here for a special occasion where money is not really an issue.
Dimzib
Good Indian food, but not outstanding. The food here was just a little too rich, but perhaps the wrong combination of dishes were ordered. The menu here is rather confusing and could do with a simplification. The ambiance of the place is very nice, with a sophisticated setup and professional staff.

I have been going to Elephant Corridor since the day it was opened. The staff at Elephant Corridor used to be one of their strongest assets and they were always nice and courteous. However, recently the staff has changed and the service has gone down the drain. This Saturday, my partner was working at night so I ended up going to Elephant Corridor to have dinner by myself. It was around 9:15 pm and around 4-5 tables were free inside. The manager asked me if it only me for dinner and when I said yes he said we are fully booked out and can only offer a bar seat. He made me feel very unwelcome. This discrimination against people eating out on their own is not fair. You should be making all your customers feel welcome regardless of whether they are eating out alone or not and saying you are fully booked when there are plenty of spare tables is not nice. Even though i love their food wont be returning their anytime soon.

Love love love!! Been here many times and just adore the food and the staff are lovely. Great for vegetarians and they even offer vegan wine!
MG
If you order just the Sri Lankan dishes then you are in business. Salt and pepper calamari is a hit so is the onion and bitter gourd salad. All Sri Lankan style curries are awesome however the Indian curries & entree items are disappointing. A bit pricey for what they have on offer.

Elephant Corridor has been in Glen Waverley for as long as I can remember. Went here for the first time very recently on a Monday night for a family birthday dinner (7 adults, 2 kids with various allergies). The restaurant was very full, which is no mean feat for a Monday night and especially in Glen Waverley when it has to compete with so many other restaurants and eateries. <br/>The staff were friendly, efficient and obliging. Even the 2 kids with their various allergies were catered for well. Our dishes came out in good time, despite the restaurant being busy. I'm not too familiar with Sri Lankan cuisine, but the dishes at Elephant Corridor were lovely. <br/>We ordered about 10 different dishes, including the delicate bowl-shaped hoppers (with and without egg). The stands outs for me were the crispy squid, mub crab in a curry sauce (came out dramatically presented), prawn curry (prawns were very large) and grilled red tandoori chicken. The raita yoghurt was a bit sweet though, which tasted a bit off. Overall, had a great experience at Elephant Corridor and will likely be back again.

Great food enjoyed Sunday night great customer service friendly staff delicious chicken curry and fried rice. Very attractive setup thanks love to visit again

This place was amazing. I had some food off their menu that I’d never tried before and they were yum. Staff were lovely and the atmosphere was great. Will go back for sure. Thank you.
Willtravelforfood17
Their food is yummy and pretty authentic sri lankan but is getting more and more pricey. I miss the buffet breakfasts they used to have on sundays with a spread of hoppers, string hoppers and milk rice and curries and sambals. They stopped it awhile ago maybe because it was not profitable.

This is now officially my favorite Indian/Sri Lankan restaurant! Though I probably say it's more leaning on the Indian side than Sri Lankan. I thought every dish we ordered was quite good!<br/>The Dhal was my favorite 🙂<br/>Service was decent considering it's a very busy restaurant. Please note bookings are a must. <br/>
FoodHedonist
Delicious food, worth coming but not exceptional to blow your mind away. Expected the rice to taste better. String hoppers were nice. Lamb dish and devilled chicken were quite tasty. Eggplant was average though. Overall a decent family restaurant for some Sri Lankan cuisine
CoolBeans
This is a fantastic restaurant. Have been here a few times and have enjoyed it on all occasions. They tend to get busy so it's always good to have a reservation. <br/><br/>There's a great buzz to the place and a lovely ambience. The staff are super helpful and friendly and also quite quick. <br/><br/>We ordered chicken kottu, chicken biriyani, fuzzy mango and a Sri Lankan ice coffee. They also serve you complimentary papadams and sauces to go with. Which were great. The food were delicious and drinks were super. The ice coffee was delicious! Although we can take a bit of spice the waiter suggested we go with medium spice and it was just the right amount of spice. <br/><br/>The food was delicious and the potion sizes were generous. Would definitely go back and recommend too.
Must Try Melbourne
If your looking for the best curried crab in Melbourne, this is the place. I was looking online for crab restaurants Melbourne and read some reviews and it does not disappoint. <br/>It's a relaxed restaurant, don't expect anything over the top or to fancy. But that's what I like. <br/>The food and drinks are very well priced so don't expect to break the bank account and the servings are great if your looking to share with friends. <br/><br/>My must try's would be the curried crab, calamari, chicken tikka and garlic roti.<br/><br/>Enjoy.
Clarissa
Went here for a spontaneous lunch and it was good decision! The lamb biryani and chicken tikka is definitely something to try! Will be coming back here if I need my indian/sri lanka fix...

Fantastic food and service. This restaurant is a gem in Glen Waverley. We were glad we found this place!! Love my fish curry! Staff were very friendly. Will surely return. Thank you :)

One of the most authentic Sri Lankan places i've ever been. Pricey? Yes but for the quality of the food it's worth it. Do be warey of the spice levels though as they're hot is spicy even for me who is Sri Lankan and can handle high spice levels. I've tried quite a few of their items and the most memorable ones are the goddhamba roti, vambattu moju, kothu roti, devilled chicken, lamprais and the madras lamb curry. Based on ordering delivery as well I've noticed that they're portions are smaller when eating in the restaurant so I don't go in and eat as parking is super hard in this area as well. Overall, a great food joint that I will definitely order from again.<br/><br/>P.S. their watallapam (dessert) is a favourite in my household :)

Which cuisine do we go with?<br/><br/>Srilankan Indian or Indian Srilakan cuisine?<br/><br/>Nicely and compacted set up, full on sensory experience, warm ambience.<br/><br/>We went with Srilankan at the end, enjoyable experience, we'll try those Indian Srilankan dishes next time.<br/><br/>

Came with a large group and food had been pre-ordered for us so can't say what they were - but everything we had was delicious. Service was great, and prompt even though they were busy at the time. Definitely on the more expensive side for Indian food, but you pay for the environment and service. Would come again!
AaronN
Service was very good.<br/>Food wasn`t bad either, the garlic naan was delicious,as was the tandoori lamb cutlets. We also had the eggplant with potato which was nice, and the onion bhaji and tandoori chicken both which were just average. Overall not bad,and would return to try other dishes.
Travis O'shea
WOW. this is my go to place when in the area.<br/>Great friendly service, outstanding menu and so much flavour. <br/>The atmosphere is always buzzing and the wine selection is good.
Helen
Quick service and a nice ambience although the loud rock music didn't really match! Started off with the usual papadams and for entree had vegetarian samosas. Shared mains of Sri Lankan beef, chicken biryani, Dahl makawani and eggplant curry with garlic naan. Lovely food but it was let down by the pistachio ice cream which tasted like cold sawdust and we couldn't eat it. The bombe Alaska was good however! Fairly cheap overall.
B. Spencer
Curry mud crab Thursday was a good idea, exotic cuisine for a change. Bread provided and it goes well with the curry. Didn't actually need to order too much more for 2 - just an extra serve of naan would do.<br/>

Came here a few weeks back on a recommendation from a friend and loved it. Had the devilled chicken, string hoppers and kukal mas which were all delicious! It pays to book as we turned up and they had to just fit us in as they were fully booked for the evening. On weekends they do hoppers which I would love to check out. Good tasty food albeit a bit pricey.

Highly overrated <br/>Had lamb and chicken gravies .. taste was awful<br/>Had diarrhoea next day .. I guess food was not fresh<br/>Poor service and too much attitude .. <br/>will not recommend this place
Chuck
Wow the crab curry is our favourite. They have a chilli mud crab night which we havent tried. The normal menu crab is good enough. Gets crowded so book ahead and get in with the staff otherwise you'll cop a table in the middle where you'll be cramped and feel like you're in a thoroughfare

Elephant corridor was recommended to me by a Colombo local so i knew that it had to be good. I booked online and received an instant email confirmation. I also received a text confirmation 1-2 days before my dinner date.<br/><br/>There is heaps of free parking in the area but as the restaurant is located on a busy street with so so many restaurants and Asian groceries, it is difficult to find parking. I recommend that you are void the street parking as you will be stuck for a while and head straight for the undercover cark park with i believe over 540 spaces.<br/><br/>The restaurant has dark mood lighting and both indoor and outdoor seating. We arrived at 6.30pm to a very very busy restaurant so much so that one couple was asked to sit outside as they said the restaurant was fully booked out. So definitely make a booking.<br/><br/>White table cloths with brown paper on top. Free poppadum and green and tamarind chutneys offered once you order. Roving water fairies fill your glass. There is a bar and a decent drinks list. My friend went for the Shiraz and i for the sweet mango lassi.<br/><br/>We had been recommended the crab curry so went straight for it. You can also get Indian options like naan bread and lamb Madras but we were here for the Sri Lankan experience.<br/><br/>So we got the rice noodle Hoppers. You get fifteen round shaped vermicelli like noodles that come in white and a purplish looking colour. It is recommended that you eat it with this yellow thick Sri Lankan soup but we felt that we didn't need it. The yellow soup is slightly sweet and has a mustardy taste to it. We enjoyed it more with our deliciously thick crab curry. You get an entire crab and the tools to eat it and also bibs. Me having no patience used my hands to break the legs and draw the meat our with my fork like utensil. We asked for medium spicy as they had advised us that extra spicy is very spicy and i felt that the spice was good and strong without overpowering the underlying flavours of coconut and mustard seeds.<br/><br/>We also got the cauliflower okra curry which again has some delicious mustardy flavours with some turmeric. I loved the food as the flavours were so unique and each dish was quite unique.<br/><br/>Service is super quick. We were in and out within an hour. And though the restaurant had a big group celebrating their 30th, they were still good at providing service on time.<br/><br/>It did get very very noisy and hence we didn't stay too long. The desserts with golden fairy floss looked fancy but we were satiated.<br/><br/>Good portions. Amazing flavours. And good price. Definitely want to come back to get some egg hoppers

Came here mid week without a reservation, as I didn't think I'd need one.. we got a table, but I'd definitely recommend booking in advance to be safe. <br/>We ordered a range of Sri Lankan dishes, all medium in their spiciness. This was a mistake! I could barely eat a lot of the food, and even my partner (who is Sri Lankan) said the food was unusually spicy. Food was full of flavour despite this, but I would definitely order mild in the future. <br/>I would be back - except the service really let this place down. We had a hard time ordering drinks or getting our water filled up.. even getting someone's attention was a struggle. We then sat for ~10min after they'd cleared our table waiting for the bill, and were only offered the bill once we stood up to walk to the counter.. the wait staff were not run off their feet or any reason to explain this, simply inattentive. <br/>May or may not return, based on that.

Dinner for 4. The tandoori mixed platter was nice with prawns, fish and chicken. The stir fried calamari with madras sort of flavor was ok. Calamari was tender. Beef curry had good flavor and was tender. Naan bread was a little dry. The kutu which was meant to be a thickish noodle stir fry with eggs was average. Service I felt let them down a little. Think there's better Sri Lankan around.

We wanted to try Sri Lankan food for a change. It was a good choice. The waiter seemed to be very familiar with the menu and helped us choose great dishes and was totally honest with how much would be enough for 2 people. Thanks for having us!

I went to Elephants Corridor for the first time last night with a group of friends. Had an amazing dining experience. They serve authentic Sri Lankan food, each dish is flavoursome and tastes beautiful. Their chilli mud crab is a must try. The service was friendly, efficient and quick. 👍 will recommed to try out! <br/>

We went there to experience flavours from the Indian subcontinent and weren't disappointed one bit. Our orders were Crab, Kothu roti and tandoori platter platter. Crab was spot on...loved the roasted coconut based creamy sauce it was served in. Tandoori platter was a bit westernised, could do with a bit more flavour but was still good. Kothu roti a popular street food from southern india..bought back memories of time spent roaming the busy streets of India in search of the best street food.<br/><br/>Service was a bit slow but nice. A restaurant with no major flaws. It's a thumps up from my end

I bought a cashew curry from you yesterday evening and when we tried it, it had a funny taste. It clearly had gone stale. This is the second time this happened to me. Extremely displeased! You really need to start looking in to this issue.

Its difficult to find Indian restaurant in Glen Waverley. I am glad, I was taken to the restaurant by my colleagues. The place is usually crowded and is small to occupy more people. Reserve a table before you visit. We enjoyed veg food here. We ordered assorrted vegitable platter for starters which had onion pakora, tandoori mashroom, Spinach Pakora, Samosa and the taste was very good. The menu on Zomato is not updated. I had taken a mock-tail named ginger beer which had ginger and lime soda - a little more sweeter than I needed. For main-course we ordered Garlic Naan, Rice, Paneer masala and daal makhani which were too tasty for my taste buds as I was craving for Indian food. I will recommend and definitely a  good place to visit,  you would love Indian Food here.
Eat And Be Merry Crew
Elephant Corridor does a combination of Sri Lankan and North Indian cuisines. I had a lovely anniversary dinner there and I picked the location purely based on the warm ambiance and the evocative name which made me think of Rudyard Kipling. We all concurred that the Sri Lankan style salt and pepper calamari was the highlight of the evening. These were so tender and perfectly crumbed. The salt and pepper mix was different to that of the Chinese style, more aromatic and less peppery. We got the entree size.

This is my second visit and once again it has exceeded all my expectations! Highly recommended! We had the Sri-Lankan chicken curry and the crab curry. Could not fault either, and ate it all of the generous portions 😁

Squashed in like sardines....... food average and meagre, dry chicken.... staff non attentive and snooty...had to ask 4 times for refill of water! music ridiculous for the genre of restaurant... would NOT go back

The best sri lankan restaurant in Victoria.but the Music should be way soft.it was like a night club. The Food is great. As said The best Lankan restaurant in Australia. The waiting staff should be more pleasant and not tp fake there Acsents. But what a wonderful place ELEPHANT CORRIDOR IS.<br/>

As a table of Indians and Sri Lankans, I can speak with some authority and have to say that we were not at all impressed with this restaurant.<br/><br/>Firstly, the serving sizes were all strangely different.  Chicken is markedly cheaper than Beef yet the butter chicken is served in a tiny pot while the Sri Lankan Beef Curry is a considerably larger serving. The Rogan Josh was even smaller (I thought it was an entree when it first came out).   The Naan is twice the average price and the rice is steamed and colored so nothing special in terms of food quality.<br/><br/>The Dining experience is terrible.  They use mirrors very cleverly because when you first walk in you think you are dining in a large restaurant.  However, you soon realize that it is only half the size and the continuous bumps from staff and patrons soon becomes unbearable.<br/><br/>Price is so ridiculous especially when you consider some of the serving sizes.  The food is of average standard but really there are more yummy options in surrounding suburbs like Clayton with generous serves at half the price.  <br/><br/>Oh, and parking around The Glen is a real stress since the cashed up Chinese moved in en masse.  To combat this, The Monash Council have provided a phone app for their parking officers to help them pounce on your car and supply you with a hefty ticket so beware as the fine is nearly $90 from memory.   <br/><br/>So, in terms of stress, hustle and bustle lol, dining at The Elephant Corridor in the Glen of an evening does provide a genuine 3/5 big South Asian city experience.  <br/><br/>If you're not really into traffic jams, parking hassles, crowded walkways  and after dinner parking fines then I recommend  getting your Indian/Sri lankan fix elsewhere.

Second visit to try out a few more dishes.<br/><br/>Onion Bhaji (which is a favourite, but highly-variable dish across Indian joints) was heavier than I'm used to, but tasty, nicely cooked and game with a thick tamarind "goop" that was very tasty.<br/><br/>Mains were the Chicken Makhani, Lamb Rogan Josh, Vege Biryani and garlic naan.  (I like to test what I call "baseline meals" - the standards that if they can't be done well I probably won't be back).<br/><br/>No complaints with any of the mains.  The Makhani was appropriately buttery and the chicken nicely cooked.  The Rogan Josh was one of the better I've had recently.  It had a nice sour flavour underlying the gravy and the meat was tender and broke apart nicely.<br/><br/>In both cases, the gravy was evenly thick - often I find the sauces are too easily separated into solids and oils giving an inconsistent result.<br/><br/>Only complaints - neither of which are significant.<br/>* that they don't seem to have an unflavoured rice option (sometimes some plain steamed rice is desirable)<br/>* the garlic on the garlic naan was a bit uneven and "globby".<br/>* when busy it gets very noisy.<br/>* the menu options aren't extensive for either Indian or Sri Lankan food, limiting one's options if you're after one or the other.<br/><br/>I've been looking for a worthy Indian joint for about six months now and this is only the second that I've thought worthy of a second visit.

Shocking atmosphere after much difficulty in finding a park!<br/>People packed in like sardines in a tin!<br/>I was wedged between my chair and the table cutting into my ribs!<br/>No atmosphere!<br/>Very noisy!<br/>Dhals were sloppy, pale and nauseaus looking but tandoori prawns, eggplant and potato curry and chicken biriyani tasted fine.<br/>Definitely not returning!

**Updated 30/11/18**<br/>The chicken biriyani...oh my goodness, it is so good! Loads of flavour.<br/><br/>SERVICE: 3.5/5<br/>Wait staff are always quick and attentive, water glasses are never empty. Manager could do with being a little more personable with customers.<br/><br/>FOOD: 4/5<br/>Items regularly ordered and always consistent -<br/>Keema Naan or String Hoppers with Kiri Hothi<br/>Tandoori fish tikka<br/>Butter chicken<br/>Chilli mud crab<br/>Devilled prawns or chicken<br/><br/>Servings look small but filling once you're done. Desserts are average.<br/><br/>DECOR & AMBIENCE: 3.5/5<br/>Cosy and romantic actually! Not much room between tables and nowhere to stand when paying, quite awkward.<br/><br/>KID FRIENDLY: No, crowded and noisy<br/><br/>

The food was all right but definitely overpriced... There are a better options out there if you'd want to spend this amount of money... One thing that put me off was the service, as one of the other reviews mention about not letting you sit somewhere else even when the restaurant was not that busy...  We asked for a different table cause the spot was quite chilly. the waiter went to the manager with the request and I actually saw him SWEAR with annoyance... That was enough to make us not go there again....

We are regulars. My family absolutely loves the sweet kashmir naan, rich garlic naan, sumptuous devilled prawns and Srilankan spicy chicken curry. Chicken and lamb biriyanis are tasty. Cheese naan is not that good. Crab curry is tasty but too small portion size. Chicken tikka is quite nice. Best Srilankan/Indian place i have tried in a  while.

Went there for a celebration the other night. We had a lovely meal, however our experience was soured by our first 10 minutes in the restaurant.<br/>After being seated we were asked 5 times by staff if we were ready to order (over the course of 15 minutes) We felt that this was a little pushy and rude.  <br/>As we were celebrating a birthday, we had a cake.  I have no problem with restaurants charging cake-age, especially if they sell cake, but a $10 charge for two people to eat cake in a restaurant that doesn't sell any is extortionate. Coupled with a $7 corkage (a little high but not unreasonable), we were a bit unimpressed.<br/><br/>Great meals but would never return for a birthday.

Good indian food in the area of glen waverley. Busy place so the best is reserved a table specially on weekends is this area crowed and busy. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Good spicy food, got variety. Price is bit on the high side but overall, its good authentic South Asian (Indian/Sri lankan) food, will go there again to pay my money!!

We booked same day for an 8pm dinner and were thankful we got a table. The food here is fresh, however the naan bread tasted like it was reheated or frozen. The crab curry requires you to crack your own crab legs! They will provide you a bib so you don't get it on you. Lovely restaurant and attentive staff. A great place for a small group catch up.

We rocked up for a late lunch, the restaurant was empty except for one other small group who were finishing up. We asked for a table on the side with bench seats, keeping in mind the restaurant was empty, they said no, as it was being set for dinner service! I suspect the combination of indian and sri lankan at the same restaurant will not sit well with the ex-pats  - the two cuisines are quite different and each have their own unique taste. To be honest, the annoyance of the seating and the terrible service by the wait staff overshadowed my recollection of the food. I didn't mind my meals, but my SL husband wasn't sold on the authenticity. Unfortunately the service sealed the deal for us and we wont be back for a 2nd visit.

Hard to find decent srilankan food in Melbourne so I rate this place the curries are pretty jam packed with flavour! its a bit crammed inside through

great sri lankan food. we came on the hopper night which is like a dosa cup. the decor is great and service was excellent too. the food served here is top notch. I feel the spices are toned down a little, but overall good flavours.

Elephant Corridor is all about respecting authentic and rustic flavours from both Sri Lanka and North India and the results speak for themselves with crowds continuing to devour Elephant Corridor's authentic delights.<br/><br/>The extensive menu features Sri Lankan and North Indian cuisine favourites such as butter chicken and string hoppers along with other exotic dishes you will not get anywhere else. The menu changes with the seasons, and utilises only the freshest ingredients.

this restaurant was recommend to me be a sir lankan lady, I am really glad that we went there the food was really good and so was the service. Lots to chose from and the staff are great and give you great suggestions if you do not know what to order. Do yourself a favour and eat here you will not be disappointed but you will need to book it gets really busy. We will be going back again very impressed

Indian food is pretty much a thing of preference - mild, spicy or blow-out😆 I like it mild and that is what I got - the Tandoori chicken was delicious - the saffron rice was not flavoured enough for my taste - my daughters had some Lamb Kurma and a vegetarian dish of cottage cheese which were both very tasty - I thought the pistachio ice cream was exeptional, both in texture and original flavours. Service was quick and friendly - god value for money.

A popular Indian and Sri Lankan restaurant in Glen! We made the mistake of not making a reservation so instead of waiting 45 minutes to get a seat inside, we were happy to sit outside as they have overhead heaters. I recommend the calamari for entree, as it has a good amount of spice! Unfortunately they only serve egg hoppers on certain days, so we ordered the stringy hoppers instead which was a little plain for my liking. Their butter chicken was my favourite main, which of course has to go with some butter or garlic naan. The pieces of meat in the lamb biryani was a little dry, but still a good dish. As we were seated outside, the waiters actually forgot about us - our mains didn't come until we asked about it, so to make up for it we were able to choose a drink each from the menu on the house, which was quite generous of them!

I have been here a few times (usually love the crabs) but yesterday the crab was slighly overcooked! Kulfi was also not as expected but the rest was good! Eggplant dish was a hit!
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
In the bustling area around Glen Waverley station, one may never run out of ideas on what to eat. Restaurants are aplenty, and one of these is Elephant Corridor, adding authentic Indian and Sri Lankan cuisine to the mix. Thursday night is chilli mud crab night, which tends to draw in Malaysians and Singaporeans, and Sunday and Monday is hopper night, where the thin, crepe-like bowl-shaped pancakes are served to the masses.

This was our first time to dine at this place.. We live 100kms away from this place and it was due to our convenience only we happened to dine at this place <br/>Omg!! I don't think I can stress this enough through words. This place is excellent. Highly recommended 200%. Will definitely go back. And it's def worth driving 200kms to dine out at this place. <br/><br/>Crab curry is a MUST try at this place. My native place is very well known for sea foods and it's varieties of preparations, especially different varieties of crabs and prawns. I have only enjoyed crab dishes from two places ever in my life. One is from my mum who is a master in cooking sea foods and second is this restaurant. <br/><br/>Cashew curry is another dish that we really enjoyed. We also had butter chicken, chicken biriyani and paneer masala. No need to mention individually, everything was so delicious and finger licking!! Not even a minor negative thing to comment!!<br/><br/>Well Done Elephant Corridor Team!!

I've been here twice now and it didn't disappoint.<br/>We didn't make a booking either time and they were willing to accommodate us. <br/>The food takes a while to come out but it's not worth complaining over because the food is worth it. Considering that you can choose your level of spice, I will assume that they make the dishes on the spot.<br/>The tandoori mushrooms on a sizzling plate are amazing!<br/>Both times we've been, we asked the waiter what dishes he recommends and we haven't been disappointed.<br/>They have a good selection of meat and vegetation options.<br/>Elephant Corridor is a place where it's worth stopping outside the box and having something other than the standard butter chicken because it'll taste good.

I've been here twice, both times I ordered a seafood dish & a vegetable dish. Both times the vegetarian dishes were being demolished, they were delicious, I particularly love the baby jackfruit curry, so exotic & different. However the seafood ones got sent back into the kitchen. Fish smelt & tasted off like they are rotten & the chilly crab was just crab shell, cracked open one claw & saw it was filled with 10% crab meat. When I complained the staff said she thinks it's worth the hefty price bc the sauce was nice.

Great place to have some good Sri Lankan food. Their specialty is the negombo pork curry and the crab curry. Good place to test your spice meter.
