Great place with good quality Indian/Sri Lankan food. I was here with friends and we enjoyed the food so much the conversation was silent from us continually eating. Only feedback would be to keep the beer stocked up, the two beers we chose were unavailable so then we had a bottle of wine, which tasted good. Nonetheless would come back when I’m craving Indian food cause the place and food were great
we had dinner today at elephant corridor today. we ordered the hot butter prawns for entry ,beef kottu and chicken kottu for dinner and dessert was chocolate biscuit pudding and cream caramel . Every dish was tasty. we were very satisfied with the level of service as well. The staff was very attentive and friendly. we will be back.
Great experience here!!!
The staff was quite attentive, tried to explain the tasting course they had when we visited.
Food wise, omg, super amazing! We can even choose our spiciness level for the food.
When we ordered, we thought it was not gonna be enough, but we ended up struggling to finish bcs the portion was generous.
For someone who rarely taste Sri Lankan food, I'd say that this place is amazing and they're super brave in using spices, which create super colourful Flavor.
Will definitely come back 😚😚
One of the more authentic food restaurants that I've been to. Their hoppers are light and the curries are delicious! Couldn't fault the food here.
Sri Lankan food full of flavour. Nice little place :)
Amazing Sri Lankan food, I have been recommended by so many people to try this place and finally went ! I did not realised how similar Sri Lankan food was to Vietnamese/Chinese food i.e the spring hopper noodles and the kothu
We loved the chicken curry ,this was very spicy so beware ! The beef kothu was very reminiscence of a sweet and sour sauce I have at home
Welcoming service upon entry. The restuarant is somewhat dim lit and the place is quite cosy.
Not too filling and slightly pricey, I did thoroughly enjoy the butter chicken even for the small portion which was full of spices and aromatic. The chicken was tender and slighlty sweet.
Out of the 3 naans we ordered - plain, butter and garlic, the butter was my favourite. All of which were all plump, soft and bready.
Walking into this place for the first time gave me the feeling I would be well taken care off. The front of house was quick to greet and tried to sit us as soon as possible. The service was prompt and friendly too. The ambiance is classy, tasteful and cozy. We looked through the mouthwatering menu and was told that they still had 2 serves of Crab curry (usually available for their Thursday service). We jumped at it and ordered a serve of that (crab curry), dry pork curry, pol sambol, bitter gourd & onion salad and a serve of idli appam (string hoppers - a serve is 15 string hoppers).
The crab curry came with all the crab eating apparatus (minus your own hands) and a serve of lightly toasted thick sliced white bread to mop up all that absolutely luscious and soooooo tasty sauce. Husband and I were so glad we weren’t on our first date as we were savages! We absolutely demolished the crab! We later ate the pork curry with the sambol, salad and the idli appams. They were all fantastic together! The pork curry had very deep flavours and the meat is meaty yet tender to the bite. The idlis were freshly made, soft and perfect. Pol sambol seem like a simple side dish, easily overlooked and taken for granted but not here! They used freshly grated old coconut meat to make the sambol (like it is meant to in tropical Sri Lanka). A lot of people are iffy about bitter gourd but the bitter gourd and onion salad is tangy sweet. The very thinly sliced bitter gourd is deep fried to a crisp first before being coated in the sweet-sour sauce with
Hands down, THE BEST Sri Lankan food I've had in Melbourne !
My friend and I went here for dinner the other day and we ordered the chicken kothu and lamprais ( both requested to be spicy ). The chicken kothu was delicious and incredibly spicy, as promised. It was accompanied by a small quantity of sauce which was equally enticing. I had the Lamprais which consisted of the fish ball ( a cutlet ) , sambol , a mixture of chicken, pork and lamb curry and fried ash-plantain. I personally , love fried ash plantain. It’s a favourite for me when cooked at home and when I tasted it here, it tasted the same. The curry was also really spicy as requested. I recommend ordering this curry as it was a really interesting combination of all the three meats and tasted absolutely delicious.
All of the dishes I tasted at Elephant House werr very authentically Sri Lankan. I cannot speak for their other cuisine dishes that the restaurant presents but I can definitely guarantee that they comply to their promise of authentic Sri Lankan food.
The ambience of the restaurant is great and the staff there are extremely accommodating. I remember having visited them on a very hot day and the staff were very accomodating to our comfort levels despite it being busy at the restaurant. I have tried a couple of different restaurants for Sri Lankan food in Melbourne but this one’s taken the prize for me. It might be a little bit on the pricier side for some, but I guarantee that it's worth it!
[Rice Dishes] Sri Lankan Lamprais (Dutch Burgher delicacy) $22.5: Excellent.
[Mains from The Tandoor] Tandoori Chicken (Half) $15.9: Ordinary, lack of strong tastes.
[Desserts] Kulfi Pista $9.9: Extraordinary.
Excellent place to have some spicy SriLankan food.
We really liked the service and the food. Although they had an altered menu to select from on Mother’s Day, it still had a lot of variety to it.
We had the butter chicken, the chicken tikka (you get 3 pieces but because there were 4 of us eating chicken they offered to add one piece at extra cost), the salt and pepper calamari SriLankan style (as an entree, there is an option to upgrade it to mains), kukul mas (chicken) curry, green jackfruit (polos) curry, string hoppers, and wattalapan.
We absolutely loved the spicy kukul mas curry and the mildly flavoured green jackfruit curry. Both had distinct taste to it.
The chicken tikka is one of the best that we’ve had in this area. Wattalapan is something that we tried for the first time and was a bit too sweet for our liking.
They have a humble drinks menu to select from as well.
Best garlic naan and amazing crab curry. Amazing food that can't be faulted - will come here again and again. Portions are value for money, too. Wasn't expecting that much crab in the curry! It just kept giving :)
Food was decent, the goat curry was a bit spicy for me but the meat was perfectly cooked. They can work on their desserts. It was more about the service. They say it that you will always remember how someone makes you feel and so it was an experience to remember right from organising a table till the end. I just forgot to ask her name but I will remember the way she smiled even when she was super busy. #39
Amazing place. Must visit if you want to try Srilankan cuisine. Many vegetarian and vegan options. Great experience and service. Kotthu paratha is recommended.
We ordered a chicken kottu and a Sri Lankan style fried rice. They were both so good and felt like we were back at home. Staff was friendly and they only took less than 10 minutes to get us food. Loved the ambience of the place
Was on our list of restaurants to go for a while and we went there the first thing once the lockdowns lifted and this place certainly didn't disappoint!
Loved all the dishes we ordered - Goat biryani was perfectly balanced with it's spices with the meat tenderly cooked. Paneer masala had a very nice peanut mix in the curry base and the red prawn curry complimented the rice really well. Veg kothu was actually the star of the day for us with a nice smoky aftertaste!
Great experience overall
