Review The Grand Tofu - Glen Waverley

Antonia Law
Food is very nice and consistent. Been here 4 times, all with happy tummies. Staff are very helpful and friendly, they even get you kids cutlery without asking. Food comes super fast and steaming hot. All the items we've had so far are delicious and brings us back to Malaysia.

Great value with great taste food. Paid under $40 for the whole lot. I can’t believe the $12.80 sweet and sour pork which came in 2 big sized containers. We’ll definitely order from them again.

I had the curry soup for my Yong Tau Fu as well as their fried squid side dish. The curry was really good, not too spicy but has a lot of flavour. It paired well with the ingredients available. You can pick from a wide variety of ingredients to add to your YTF, such as meatballs, fish cakes, vegetables, noodles. It is pretty affordable as well. I’d recommend this place if you like having noodle soup dishes.

Was going to break up with my girlfriend, but the food here was so good that I decided, Ah life couldn't be that bad. Or at least, the pain of eternal struggle with this woman, would be tolerable if I could have a lovely meal here at The Grand Tofu every week. Thank you Grand Tofu for helping me not dump my girlfriend. And also, wow, the prices are sooo good. Like, my girlfriend spends all my money, so you'd think I'd be too poor to eat here. But, all this delicious food for 2 people for just $48? WOW!!! What a deal. I even had extra money to tip the staff, cos they're really good too. In summary, if you want to dump your GF, don't bring her here. Otherwise very good.

Loved this place. Awesome friendly service. Food delivered to table quickly. Loved the Yong Tofu with Curry base and egg noodles and Gado Gado. Even the Teh Tarik was great. Highly recommended

Looking for good Chinese crusine in Glen Waverley, Melbourne? I was presently surprised to stumble upon The Grand Tofu, an eatery which offers many delicious authentic food. You can get a big bowl of Young Tofu which consist pieces of tofu or vegetable stuffed with fish or meat paste served in a soup. You can choose your choice of soup base. We ordered a bowl each with Tom Yam and curry soup base. I would highly recommend their piping wok hey Char Kuey Teow (fried flat rice noodle served with prawns, chives, bean spourts and fish cake in a mixed black soy sauce). It's very nice and tasty. I went back to this place the 2nd time for their fried Char Kwey Teow and ordered the stirred beef white Kuey Teow.

Absolutely satisfying curry soup yong tau foo. We always say we want to try some of the other dishes at The Grand Tofu. Alas, we never fail to get the yong tau foo first. The portion size has always been generous - you can mix the noodles if you wish and the set bowl comes with a choice of 6 pieces of YTF. The broth is extremely flavourful, balanced and taste, on point. They thrown in some fresh taugeh (beans sprouts) and accompaniment of greens and walah, you have a balanced meal! So if you haven't been to this place or if you have and just cannot decide on what to get for the day, default recommendation is the YTF!

Just had a takeaway, worst Malaysian I have had for a long time only ordered 3 dishes roti with curry nasi Lemak satay chicken Oil, Oil, Oil, mainly the roti was soaked in oil (or maybe re-fried) terrible chicken curry was oily and below average the Satay sticks also oily below average Nasi Lemak was okay. Not going there again !! not unless I want a stroke .....

Excellent local Malaysian eatery. My go-to dish is the curry yong tofu, it hits the spot everytime!

Good food and staff were nice and friendly. Good location. Good variety of food and drinks. Can be busy at peak hour time’s.

Excellent service, great value for money, very close to authentic Malaysian cooking style.

I come here all the time and love this place. The egg gravy fried noodles are always delicious. Serving sizes here are massive and the prices are really cheap!!

There was a line as the restaurant was packed but got a table almost immediately. The staffs were nice and food came out pretty quick.

I was indecisive (as always) and the staff was really nice to just explain the dishes and her recommendations. Finally after an eternity, I made a decision to get their yong tau fu which is basically soup noodles with a variety of toppings.

She asked me to go in front to pick the toppings as it is easier that way.

I got the rice vermicilee and flat noodles, with capsicum, eggplant, wonton, bitter gourd, tofu and prawn balls.

It didn't take long to cook and the portion was big alright. All of the fish ball stuffed toppings were pretty generous in size and the fish ball itself was not fishy and had a nice texture. The veggies were also fresh and wonton was yummy. Oh, i got the clear soup and it was pretty tasty.

My sis got the vegetarian curry noodle and it was yummy. The noodle was the thin egg noodle and would be nicer with the yellow noodle but the broth was delicious and the veg spring rolls was so good, with some crunch and fresh veg in it.

Overall I really enjoyed the food and could see why it was so packed.

( follow for more!✨)

xx,joelle.

One of the long-term popular places on kingsway. We always love it and particularly my little child’s favorite dish is the sweet and sour pork with rice. Only the lemon honey drink tastes a little plain.

Loved coming to this place as it gives me a sense of nostalgia and they’re usually still open after I finish with my night shift at work (9pm). Food is usually served quickly and I love being able to customize the fillings for my yong tofu!

Another Friday means another eatery at Glen Waverly and this time it was The Grand Tofu. Now if you’ve ever walked past here, it gets super duper busy so we decided to get there just before lunch time. We were able to get a table for 6 quick smart and we already knew what we were ordering. I got the recommended combination Hor Fun which was an egg gravy dish with delish noodz. Filled with fish cakes veggies, chicken, prawns and whatnot, this was totes AMAZEBALLS! It was hearty, it was light and that egg gravy was so frigging delish.

Definitely a favourite in this area for good wok fried noodles, Yong Tau Foo meal and other Asian and Malaysian dishes. You’ll be spoilt for choice as everything always tastes great. I can never steer far from their Yong Tau Foo range with thin dry noodle and soup broth of choice (curry, chicken or tom yum). As a place that you just order, eat and go, it’s not a place to linger and chat (you’ll be handed the bill as a not so subtle cue to leave if there are queues which there ALWAYS is especially during peak meal times), neither is it the most roomiest restaurant - definitely not a pram friendly place. But the food is tasty, prices are reasonable, portions are generous and the service is prompt.

An overall pretty nice place - the interior had a very ‘authentic’ vibe. I ordered the BBQ Pork dry egg noodle. The beef was well cook and super tendon however I would have appreciate it to have been cut into slightly smaller pieces. The noodles were fresh and flavourful - I’d recommend giving your noodles a good stir beforehand to bring the sauce to the noodles on top. Our meals were super inexpensive and well worth it. Will be back soon to try the other items on the menu.

This is my second visit. When I first came here, I enjoyed it so much, but I also enjoyed it this time. It's good because it's not expensive.

My go to place after work! Always end up ordering the Hainan Chicken Rice. So tender & juicy. Comes with a side of soup. Great way to end after a hard days work!
Tessa
3.5 Stars
This place is absolutely buzzing. The wait wasn’t too bad and we were able to order quite quickly after sitting. It’s a little bit chaotic in there with dirty dish trays lying around but it’s cheap and cheerful fast food. The hainanese chicken rice I had was ok. I’ve had better and worse. The pick and mix noodles were decent. A big menu with lots of variety. I don’t think I’d go back anytime soon but it’s always a safe backup option.
Nini Foodie
Absolutely love the yong tofu here - I always get the curry soup and at least one stuffed eggplant and fried wonton (the two best fillings imo!)

We also enjoy other dishes including the black pepper steak with tomato rice and the crispy chicken.

Service can be quite rushed but I’ve always found them very efficient and like that there is always tea on the table. A kingsway favourite!

“Satisfied.” — my Malaysian family, 2019

Food: 7.5/10 (Curry Yong Tau Foo with Hor Fun, Fried Rice, Char Kuey Teow)
Service: 8/10 (busy Sunday evening)
Ambience: 6/10
Pricing: $

My Australian housemate brought me here a few months back and I remember being pretty excited, so I brought my Malaysian family here to see if they approve of this place. They left pretty happy 😊

Being the signature dish, the Curry Yong Tau Foo was obviously a banger. However, compared to my previous visits it seems that they went heavier on the santan (coconut milk, 椰浆) this time. Hence santan lovers would rejoice in this 🍲

Fried rice came out smelling really good, tasted good as well, no complaints there. The Char Kuey Teow, though, could be saltier but that’s just me and my salty taste buds 🤷🏻‍♀️

But what warranted Grand Tofu its four stars was the portion — our family of 4 ordered three dishes and all of us were stuffed in the end. Ended up having to take away the leftover fried rice 🍛

THEY ARE SO GENEROUS WITH THE PORTIONS! AND WITH THE MONEY THAT YOU PAY? FOUR STARS!

p/s: Some may say this review reveals the Malaysian bias in me...

I always come here after late nights at uni. Decently priced and big serving sizes. The curry soup base is a winner and I love the eggplant stuffed with fish paste.

I would give 2.5. This restaurant is definitely overrated. It's too crowded, I've been to some Vietnamese pho restaurant, they're reasonably crowded, but this one?you need to move the table to get you seated and move the table back. Food- salty. Seriously, we ordered fried squid tentacles, fried noodles and tofu laksa, all are way too salty- no exceptions. I have attached a photo for fried noodle, nothing like what it sounds like. And the menu was different from those in here. Service was good, until we found they missed one of our order. Won't come again.
Hungry Big Potato Bear
Food quality and taste is very underwhelming. Soup was bland. Crispy noodles were not crispy. Space is extremely tight so you can constantly feel people pushing through your seat. Very unpleasant. Restaurant is very busy so I’m not sure what is good about this place
Bestmelbournefoods
I love this place! Super affordable & nice food! My mum and I always get the Tom Yum soup base & choose 6 toppings! The food is a great value for money!

If you want genuine Malaysian Chinese food with a genuine Malaysian Chinese restaurant atmosphere, this is the place for you. Definitely a local favourite.

It's got everything: your classic Malaysian Chinese dishes e.g. chicken rice, hokkien noodles, KWAY TEOW (definitely a favourite), beautifully charred and stir-fried; wide variety of drinks e.g. Kopi, Teh etc.; unsmiling but incredibly efficient waiters; extremely quick turn-around when it comes to tables and seating; lightning fast take-away service (and food service in general); no split bills - truly the quintessential Malaysian Chinese experience.

Not the prettiest restaurant - can feel a little greasy, but it smells darn good and the food... Oh the food. I've made many a friend a believer through this restaurant.

Don't be put off by long lines - they pass quickly, and besides, long lines = good food. The wait is worth it.
Corgi The Foodie
Food wise - 6 big pieces of fresh yong tau fu in a rich, hot curry soup- perfect on a cold autumn day. Service wise- don’t expect smiles but very efficient. Great for a no fuss meal

I was ordered the salted fish fried rice, unfortunately the taste is totally crap and tasteless.i have been here for so many times, but today is totally made me felt so disappointed with their food. And the chicken was tasteless as well.
After I had my dinner at grand tofu,I started confusing am I order salted fish fried rice or plain rice with scramble egg, chicken and finished with tiny bit of salted fish.
Dina Lobo
The Assam laksa was a 5/5 and the char kway teow was a 3/5. The waitress was quite hospitable. Will be visiting again and maybe try some other dishes.
Jack Stevens
Possibly one of the highest food quality:service time ratios in Melbourne. Possibly one of the highest food quality:price ratios too. Just all round fantastic execution of simple, delicious food.

Basically any addition to the laksa will be a banging accompaniment, and they get the balance right in their salted fish fried rice so you're not pulling a sour face by the last few bites. The homemade table sambal is fresh and sweet. I have no complaints about the grand tofu whatsoever.
Ed
I was hovering somewhere between 4 and 5 stars for The Grand Tofu, but ultimately chose 5 because I just can get past how good the meals are for the price that you pay.
We took our Malaysian housemate here recently and she was so excited to be able to eat homely food for a good price.
An old favourite meal is the curry soup base and a choice of 6 toppings, but the entire menu is full of other delicious items too.
The atmosphere is busy, especially at dinner, but definitely worth the wait.
If you’re the kind of person who loves spicy food in any form, then I urge you to give this place a try to satisfy your chilli needs.
Munchk1n
Lots of options on their menu, quick service, good food, good portion sizes, reasonable prices. Will definitely be back to try their extensive menu!
Melvin Lay
Had the Singapore Fried Vermicelli. Fair to say, it was extremely tasty and to my liking! Much better than the ones around the area and was well worth it. Price wise was very good and quality over quantity
Luke Martini
This place was so good. I measure these places by the fried rice - get the simple things right and the rest is sure to be good. The rice here is amazing, and the salt and pepper squid, beef and black bean and lemon chicken dishes were delicious. Definitely recommend this one.
WillEat2Eat
This place is always crowded with people. You sit very close with other customers, but they have a really good and fast service.

We tried the Yong Tofu with 2 different broth. You can choose 6 of toppings with broth and noodle. Tom Yum is really refreshing and tastes good, just a little bit lack of spices. It’s sour and refreshing. The Curry soup is very similar taste with Laksa, just a little bit too creamy. We hope that it will be a bit more spicy. They cooked the noodles perfectly. LOVE the beancurd and dumplings topping.

Overall, Still want to come back to taste the other food!
Foodbaby
Fast service and food comes out in good time. Can get pretty busy but can always seem to get a table. The meals are large portions which is good value for what you get.
M&M
This place has probably the most authentic Malaysian food in Melbourne that I’ve tried so far. I absolutely love their Assam Laksa and it tastes as good as the one from my favourite stall back in Malaysia! The only down side is that they charge $0.50 per take away container without notifying us of the charge beforehand, granted we’re not too fussed about the small amount but it would’ve been ethical to inform customers beforehand (like most of the other Asian eateries that do charge for takeaway containers).
Brian Kim
I think I just chose the wrong dish, because the ambience and service was great and most others find the food to be good too. The pork chops in plum sauce was too sweet for my liking, and the ratio of rice to pork to greens was way off for a balanced meal.
The Wandering Reviewer
Fast Chinese food in a very popular part of Melbourne. There is a glut of great places to eat around here so you have to be on your game otherwise people will just go elsewhere. The Grand Tofu had a great array of choices and the Mee Goreng was very good. The deep fried calamari a little chewy.

Come early if you'd like a seat as they don't take bookings. Very popular with locals.

Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Good parking out the front but there are time limits. Take away available.
Gavin Z. H. Chee
The prices are quite affordable and I absolutely love the curry soup noodles.

Best fried squid I've ever had and something I always get when I go, 10/10 would recommend. Skin is crispy and the squid is tender.
JC
You really can’t go wrong here, honestly. We’ve been sporadically visiting since uni days (which was at least a decade ago!) and it never fails to satisfy.

Amazing food, can’t go wrong with any of the noodle dishes - though I’ve never tried to select your own ingredients option.

Also be prepared to cue if you come at a busy time eg lunch or dinner
Choc Pudding
Went here and the menu looks amazing with nice pictures. Food came out fast and it was so tasty! I had their beef hor fun and couldnt fault it. The portion is huge for the price, there were lots of veggies in the dish which i enjoyed. I didnt need to use chili oil which i usually do with hor funs. My friend has the bowl of hot pot where you can choose soup base and the things in it. She had the tom yum base and it was very refreshing. Will come back again for other dishes
Davidsun1029
Good taste and resonable price. Wok dishes are excellent. Often come here for dinner, at least once a month. Mince-stuffing foods are their special.
Emptystomach
Been going there for years. Must order the “Yong Tofu” noodle soup. Pick your own fish cake / tofu and they will deep fried them for you, pair it with the curry laksa soup. Quick lunch fixed.
For more foodie goodness follow my ig: emptystomach
OverEating101
I come here for my Curry Laksa cravings and this place delivers!

At only $12 a bowl you get to pick about 6 ingredients (expect everything to be fish stuffed lol) and I usually get thick egg noodles but you can mix two if you like!
It's honestly such a delicious soup base, and perfect on a cold day!

Only thing is tables are way to close to each other. When Grand Tofu gets busy expect to be eating / sharing a table with 2 other friends you didn't even know you had..
The Biker Foodie
Good location. Plain decor. Good food and well priced.
However...
this ‘we don’t split bills’ doesn’t work for me. And the rudeness by staff when a group of 13 of us want to just pay for what we ate is amazing.
To ignore my outstretched hand and slam the change on the counter before walking away is plain offensive. After thanking them for a lovely meal and being polite this didn’t wash well with me.
There are plenty of nice restaurants in the area. I’ll spend my hard earned money elsewhere.
Megs
Always fresh and delicious dishes. Highly recommend the Yong Tofu, which is a soup noodle which you choose the soup base, noodles and dumplings. Absolutely delicious, been my favourite restaurant on Kingsway for years and still excellent quality and value... Oh, and super fast with food to the table!!!!
D Train McClain
Longstanding stalwart of Kingsway eateries.

There's been a lot of turnover on Kingsway strip recently, but Grand Tofu remains strong. Wide range menu of Malaysian Fare. Wok tossed noodles and plentiful and tasty along with Noodle Soup & rice dishes. My favourite is the Ipoh Curry CHicken Noodle dish. Can't go wrong. Reasonably priced and servings are quite large.
Chester
Located in the heart of Glen Waverley where the competition is high, The Grand Tofu serves Malaysian dishes for casual diners with the signature dish of Yong Tofu. Providing a customisable selection of tofu, dumplings, soup base and noodles to customers, their Yong Tofu arrives quickly with generous portions. Their other dishes are quite traditional; you know what you get without any surprises. I've visited this place many times and service is always friendly and attentive. Even with a full house, our food still comes out quickly.

We are always on a look out for the best seafood curry Laksa and I think I found it! Great flavour. Rich and not too much coconut which can be a downfall with many. Size can be deceiving. It’s in a small bowl but packed with flavour and seafood.
We had a Char Keoey Teow and it was superb. Always very busy so that’s a good sign. Great service. Highly recommend giving it a go. Reasonably priced too.
Tried the Penang Assam Laksa. Exactly like Penang! Great flavour and rich fishy and tangy broth.
Luke Wong
Quick service, reasonable price. Tasty food and heated hot. Great restaurant. Highly recommended.
Nice menu with lots of choices to choose from.
Must try if you are in Glen Waverley.
Alicia
My family and I have been coming here literally for years (since I was a little girl), even when it was down the other end of Kingsway near Glen Waverly station.
Even after 10+ years, it is my family’s go to place.
The Tom yum soup and the XO special friend rice are some of our favourites. I’d recommend this place any time on any day.
Kaseyzz
Wonderful Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine in Glen Waverley. The yong tofu is highly recommended as tofu is juicy and tender. The vermicelli with soup is my favorite. I am not the person who likes soy bean milk but I think the hot soy bean milk here worths a try as it’s smooth and sweet.
Porkknuckles
Very busy place. Parking available but best option is multilevel car park. Tofu wasn’t as crispy as I would have liked but still tasty. Curry soup was yum yum yum! Lobak was good too.

Overall, the tofu noodle curry soup was a bit mushy (they must deep fry the tofu then put the soup over the tofu) but it was saved by flavour.

P.s. Be careful walking on the floor. It’s a bit slippery.
David Food Leasing
DO: Curry chicken noodle

DONT: Forget about the customised noodle soup and toppings option.

TIP: Park in the multi deck car park. Much more convenient and not timed.
Sunny Days Melbourne
Oh boy.....Houston, we have a problem. Grand Tofu has a great reputation so I must have caught them on a particularly bad day when I ordered takeaway hawker dishes on a Sunday afternoon. First up, it took almost 30 minutes for my order to be prepared. The fried rice was mushy and gluggy with no hint of wok hei. The stir fried chicken with vegetables was unfortunately literally tasteless so I can only imagine that the chef forgot to season the dish. The Ipoh combination with egg gravy was packed in two separate boxes, which was great, but once again, it appears that the wok hei was having a day off. The only redeeming dish was the KL fried thick noodle - saved by the tiny pieces of fried lard:)
I accept that everyone can have a day off now and again but to serve 3 very mediocre dishes out of 4 dishes ordered is more like having a week off.
Sorry guys but with so many choices at the amazing food mecca along Kings Way, I will not be revisiting Grand Tofu anytime soon....
Foodie
Food here’s good, prices reasonable, portions huuuuuge.
I haven’t a picture of the Yongtofu, but I have had it many times before and it’s something I’d recommend to anyone that comes here. Go for the curry soup base.
This time (finally remembered to take a picture here), we were craving for some fried rice and decided to order two types.
When they arrived, they looked exactly the same 😂 they tasted the same too. The only difference is the char siew vs lap cheung and prawns
Soooo don’t order these two at the same time haha.
They’re both good fried rice. Just very similar dishes.
Camy Bamy
Our all time fav Chinese Malaysian Restaurant in Glenn Waverley. Took my family down here after our long drive in the Yarra Valley to rid of the alcohol hangovers =)
Dishes come out steaming hot, cooked to perfection. Classic Char Koey Teow is the best i have ever eaten in Melbourne. The Chilli Spice balances out the wok char, superb!
Yong Tau Foo dish was fragrant and the broth bursting with flavour. Always difficult to choose the 5 yong tau foo to add to the broth and noodles so many choices !
McFoodie Jones
Not a fan - may have picked the wrong meals but our meals were packed with MSG, grease & salt - flavours not enjoyable, messy & came out way to quick. Especially considering the competition in the area, I was surprised how busy this place was! But I guess everything is in G.waves? Overall, I would give it another go but try something different off the menu but won’t be back in a hurry!
South Indian Foodie
Great place for affordable and inexpensive dinners, ordered Malaysian fried rice which was delicious and sea food curry laksa for which we were given chicken by mistake(it happens) but that's alright we had the chicken one very yummy. Definitely recommend
Marina Ung
I was craving laska seafood and grand tofu has the most delicious and affordable meals here! Hands down, been a regular customer for over 3 years and counting! :) besides the English barriers with the new staff, everything was perfect! 😁
Pandy
One of the earliest Chinese Malaysian restaurant around south-east area. Service was quick and friendly. Food was decent. I’ve tried the salted fish fried rice, hainan chicken rice, char kuey teow and many others.
K
Large portions at reasonable prices! Service is quick and friendly. Everything came out in a timely manner. Will definitely come back again!
Melissa Phu
Food very worth the price!! I come here often for a casual brunch! They do their noodle dishes well. This photo attached is the Tom yum noodle!! Very delicious
Food Junkie
My family and I have been here many many many times. It has become our go to place for a quick meal on the way home. The place is always full and service is very quick.
As the name suggests, it’s known for its Yong Tofu. That is a variety of stuffed tofu and vegetables with fish cake and dumplings. But the other dishes that we have tried here are also delicious. Menu is your typical Malaysian Hawker food such as Nasi Lemak, Char Kwai Tiau, Laksa, etc. Well priced and a good size portion.
Jas
I never leave any comments about any restaurants.. but this one I feel like doing it. Ordered chao Kway teow and it was over fried as it tasted a little bit bitter. There was a very chewy texture type of thing in my mouth when I was having the noddle, and it turned out to be A RUBBER BAND. Showed to the waitress (she apologised) and I ordered another dish Singapore Fried vermicelli, then I tasted a lumpy salts or MSG ( I didn’t raise any concerns) Anyway, they charged me for all the dishes, I had to explain what happen to the cashier thought he would have known about the incident like he pretended he didn’t know? It makes me feel nauseous when I think about it.. never go back again, was disgusted by the whole experience! 0 star!
Moieats
Came here for lunch on a Sunday. There was a short wait for table as the place was packed. Service was pretty quick and our waitress memorized our orders well. The salted fish and pork fried rice was our favorite. The rest was pretty average. There are so many variety on the menu. Will definitely come back to try the rest.
K.jones
food was ok however the place needs a good clean. was seated next to the kitchen and toilet
:( was gross and off putting. kitchen looked really filthy from what i could see...
Streaky Eats
Very flavourful curry laksa, reminds me of those morning Chee Cheong Fun curry base back in KL, Malaysia. Hokkien mee was quite legit as well, apart from not having that crispy pork lard, which would then make it perfect.

Try an upgraded version of the curry laksa yong tofu with fried rice (+$2 for a basic fried rice). What I do is drench the fried rice with curry laksa, then take a spoon of the already drenched fried rice and gently dip into the curry laksa bowl then eat. Call me a mad man but it might just change your life.

The char koey teow was not too bad. Wouldn't say it's the best one yet. They added the slightest hint of crispy pork lard, though not enough to make a difference.

Bak kut teh was surprisingly good, enough herby taste with good amount of meat. Very enjoyable and will definitely get it again.
Yovita Aurora
In my opinion it is one of the best laksa I’ve ever tasted. I think it’s worth it to come all the way to Glen Waverly to visit this restaurant. You can expect a queue when coming here, but it didnt take too long time for me to finally get a seat. I think they also have another delicious menu. I’m gonna try the other the next time I come here. But I think they need to teach their staff how to be more friendly with the customers. Since it’s a busy restaurant, the staffs kinds forget to say hi and smile to the customers which is a bad service for me
Hangry Horace
We came here for lunch on Saturday. The restaurant was packed and there was a short wait for a table. We ordered the yong tofu and hainanese chicken rice which were both decent. The portions were sizable as well.

One of Glen Waverley's oldest Malaysian restaurants, I've frequented here back in the day and I'd always get their yong tofu everytime. My own customised curry laksa with stuffed eggplant, dumplings and a few random items (almost everything is deep fried).

At first I thought it was just me but the curry broth was wayyy too salty. Friends agreed as we all got the same thing. Definitely felt it afterwards even though I was avoiding drinking the soup. What a disappointment and never risking that again. Rating is being generous as I've had better meals previously.

Luckily though there are other establishments that do the exact same thing (i.e. The Grand BBQ and a new one I've not tried in The Glen).
MELBFOODIEEE
loveeee this place so much! their singapore fried noodles and make your own yong tofu noodles are absolutely delicious. for the price, you get massive servings that are enough for two meals and the service is fast!!

Post-Peter rabbit feed with the fam ☺.

- We ordered: Yong tofu all round! (5x)

For the unfamiliar, Yong tofu is a specialty dish at The Grand Tofu which allows you to customise your order with the soup base (clear/laksa/tom yum broth), noodles, and toppings.

Although I've seen size of that bowl diminish over the years, the Yong tofu is still a hearty feed that never disappoints. A must try in Kingsway!

We rate Peter Rabbit 3/5 for those wondering 😎 Lucy Qi. This ain't rotten zomatos baby!
Jessica
Love this place so many different items to choose from. i personally love the tom yum soup and the Mongolian beef. Service is great and fast.

A lot of good reviews have already been written about The Grand Tofu. Been going there for quite a while, on and off and can summarise the following:
1) Consistent in taste, serving size and price;
2) Service is minimal but efficient;
3) Fairly extensive menu offering and majority of them are aligned to point 1
Vivian
Been coming here for years and I always get the curry laksa, the assam laksa, the har mee or the hainanese chicken. These dishes have been consistently good and after all these years this place is still always busy!
Jennitals
LIT!: Love this place for cheap, fast and (mostly) consistent food! The CKT was outstanding today and a huge serve for the price. It's sure to satisfy the Asian cuisine cravings

NOT SO LIT: today's chicken quantity was insufficient. Normally they do give more chicken.
If you want an almost overloading plate of food to prescribe you into a food coma but also won't burn a hole in your wallet then give grand tofu a try! For meals that are very budget friendly for the kingsway area, and that taste pretty damn good this is probably where you'd want to go for chinese/malay food. Shall recommend!
JKGasMan
Had an average experience here. We had our family dinner here on a Saturday evening. Ordered the assam laksa and loh bak. The assam laksa soup base was too sour for my liking, and they didn't use the correct type of fish for it. Seating spaces are rather tightly packed together to feel comfortable.
Wendy
Great service and waiting time is very short. A good place for late dinner. Deep fried squid is my favourite. Milk tea is not bad too.......
XiaoHui Teo
My favourite go to everytime I crave for some decent Malaysian food. Had their yong taufu as well this time and i definitely recommend it with their curry soup.

Good food with good price. Tried most things in the menu. Always be the choice when we do not know where to eat at Kingsway. Recently increased their prices but still reasonable.

Nothing extraordinary. Just average casual dining place. Food is okay. No split bills to pay by a card. Takeaway would be better as this place can be too loud

Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the vegetarian laksa which I had here but that was only because it smelt so delicious that I forgot to take a picture before diving in. Honestly a very homely and pleasant broth. Nothing dressed up or fancy, but for a wholesome meal, I would come back!

The place is super busy! I always come here for the Yong tofu which is very consistent. Their other dishes are also quite decent just the atmosphere is catered towards a quick meal

Had many a yong tau foo and countless more takeaway from here - I would recommend the curry soup - the tomyum is also half-decent. My favourites from the cabinet are veggie shrimp (shiitake, radish, and carrot wrapped in beancurd skin), tofu skin, and eggplant. Always a tasty and reliable meal - I pretty much get curry soup and varying permutations of the same yong tau foo every time. Fabulous.

Ratio Decidendi: So much has changed in Glen Waverley, but Grand Tofu continues to serve up some of the best yong tau foo in all of Melbourne…and dare I say Australia? For the uninitiated, yong tau foo is sort of like yum cha – in that it is not a dish in itself, but rather a banner for various smaller items which have a common element – typically, fish paste.

I do quite enjoy the food here, and come here regularly. The portions are huge and so the price is well worth it. I usually get the yong tau foo and almost always have to takeaway my leftovers. I must say that there is quite a bit of MSG in their food, but hey, it's to be expected. Been to other places in the glen area and there's definitely a reason why this place is always so busy!

Visited this establishment again after a while.
Ordered nasi lemak w beef rendang and cantonese sauce pork ribs.
Good to know that there is no bones in the ribs and the sauce is sweet and sour. The sauce is very generous.
Nasi lemak is also delicious with the beef rendang. The rendang is quite tender and juicy.
In the past I ordered fish head w vermicelli but that one has gone downhill by experience.
These 2 stands out instead. :)

Been here a few times. Quality of dishes have all been solid, portions are generous, service fast, staff helpful and prices more than reasonable.

I used to come here for their magnificent yong tau too. It was at that time, one of the best places to have it in Melbourne and I was happy to travel quite a bit of a distance just to have it. After a bit of hiatus, I am happy to find the same magnificent yong tau too when I visited this place recently. The laksa soup is my favourite, but other soup bases are also great. As for toppings, fried wontons and stuffed eggplants are my favourite.

Had the char kuey teow, wanton mee with pork, and some yong tofu from the front with soup. Overall it was decent, nothing exceptional about the food here. The pork with the noodles were dry and it was stained bright red from food colouring. I know this has been done in hawker stalls in Malaysia, but it tasted absolutely bland. The char kuey teow didn't look like the was fried enough.

Being a massive Malaysian street food bandit I had to try the yong tofu with the curry laksa soup. Having the abundant choice of goodies to soak in the laksa was the real MVP as it is unlike many other restaurants that offer a curry laksa. I went with the bean curd roll, fish ball, pork wonton dumpling, savoury doughnut, tofu eggplant and prawn dumpling to go with my hokkien noodle laksa. On a day where I was struggling with hay fever, the heat in the laksa cleared my nasal passages right out! Would get a higher rating but can’t be too biased as my impending illness made this dish serve a medicinal purpose more than one that scintillates the taste buds!

Delicious Malaysian Chinese food does not go unnoticed, even in a suburb as densely packed with good Asian restaurants as Glen Waverley. Expect prompt no-frills service and a hearty bowl of yong tofu soup noodle within minutes of ordering. I prefer the curry laksa soup base with mixed noodles. It's hard to choose which 6 ingredients you want at the counter, but that's why you just have to return!

Fancy noodle soup in this cold weather, check this place out. If u've been to Singapore, u must've known about Make Your Own Noodle style where u can basically design ur noodles, from choosing ur soup base, to choosing noodles and toppings. Of course they sell other dishes as well, but their special would definitely be Make your own noodle soup. They have three soup base: curry, braised and tomyum. I tried all three and found that curry is the most tasty. The richness from coconut milk make it more like laksa soup but tastier. U can choose 6 toppings, the ones I fancy were the ones with bean curd wrapping. They went so well with the curry soup base. If u dont like coconut milk, go with tomyum. The braised soup base was nothing more than a normal chicken stock base for me.

I ordered sweet and sour chicken, the capsicum and tomatoes were very raw, when it was supposed to be cooked, the pineapple was white in colour.

If you ever need some yong tau foo fix, this place will satisfy your cravings. It usually garners a long queue on weekends so be ready to wait! Their Ipoh Hor fun was great as well but the portion was so huge! Worth sharing. :)

Grand Tofu is an awesome place with great value. The service here is quick and it is always packed during peak times. You go in, eat, then get the heck out. This isn't the place to hang around and relax. There are some well tasting dishes that are generously portioned for a decent price.

You can choose a range of things to put in your noodle soup. There are also a variety of other noodle and rice dishes.

One of best dish ever is this egg noodle with beef. It is called "Wat Tan Hor with beef". You got to pronounce it right and the servers will understand. There is a prawn version somewhere in the menu. Its about $13 and so damn nice.
I work in an Asian restaurant myself, so I don't always feel like eating more of that. The Grand Tofu is the exception! Delicious food every single time, and good service. My favourite is the curry laksa, so good! Would definitely recommend the lychee or honey and lemon drink too. Never been disappointed! Great price too :)
