Review Le Gaulois French Restaurant - Glen Waverley

Went first time to celebrate my better half’s birthday. There were four of us for dinner. A pleasant surprise as the food was delicious and service excellent! Ambiance had a Gallic vibe even with French background music! We were full and thoroughly happy by the time we left. Will be back !

The food was very good, i loved the lamb. It was so tender and waste good with the roasted potatoes. I also had the duck, the orange sauce was a bit unique for me but it tasted nice. The waiters seemed nice, and the place being in a low-light environment fitted in well. I did think it was a bit expensive for the price of the food, but overall not bad. 9/10 for me.

Celebrated a birthday at Le Gaulois recently. You wouldn’t have known there was a French restaurant on the street if you weren’t looking for it! The decor felt like a pop up store with a few tables and chairs slapped awkwardly onto a room that is overdue for some updating or renovation. However, the French music and decor did help build abit of a rustic, homely vibe. We had the escargots and garlic bread to start. The escargots didn’t have as much taste or flavor as I expected, but the garlic butter sauce was good. It was nice to have some bread come with it to go with the leftover sauce, however, wouldn’t recommend it. The garlic bread was recommended in a few other reviews and I do agree that it was good, but when they meant 2 pieces it was really 2 small slices. For the mains, we had the orange duck and a beef fillet that was listed under the chef specials. The duck turned out great, with an excellent orange sauce. However, the beef fillet was abit mediocre and we regretted not ordering something more traditionally French instead. For dessert we had the crepe Suzette. As simple as it looks, it tasted amazing and came with a quality scoop of ice cream. We enjoyed the spectacle of having it arrive in a blue flame as well. Service was excellent and attentive, with a single waiter very capably attended to all 3 tables and constantly checking in to see if everything was alright. Main negative for me would be the portion sizing/value. Was abit disappointing to receive my coke in tap form as well, which tasted like sparkling water as there possibly wasn’t adequate syrup added. Would have expected a bottle. Overall, it’s abit mixed for me as I do like the joint but at the price point it is very hard to beat the other options out there with better ambience or portion sizing.

Great delicious 🇨🇵 dinner😋! Full marks to the Chef! 🏆👌👍 Had Escargots de Bourgogne with garlic butter sauce and chopped mushrooms, canard aux noix à l'orange and Cointreau sauce 😋, and crêpe Suzette flambée with vanilla ice cream. Friendly staff and timely service 👍. Best to book well in advance! PS. Forgot to turn off auto flash with crêpe Suzette flambée 🙃

A special birthday night out. The decor is a little dated now, and so was the clientele on the night we went, but that's what made it quiet enough to converse and enjoy the French chansons playing in the background. The service was excellent without fussiness. And the food itself? A smallish menu done impeccably. Overall, a local gem, easily overlooked, but that really would be a shame.

Majority of our food was nice. The service was courteous and the ambience is special and cozy in the area. However the receipt we received was not eligible for VIC dining program claim as its not printed. I have contacted resturant and told was there is no printed receipt. Be aware if you want to dine for the rebate.

Delicious food...good service. Local hidden gem! We enjoyed our dinner at the Le Gaulois last Saturday...even the dessert were nice and not overly sweet...definitely recommend it.

The sweetest local french restaurant around!
We didn't set ourselves high expectations going in however, was extremely impressed by the service and food!
There were only two waiters working but they did a great job getting around to each table efficiently.

The garlic bread is a must!!!

The food overall was pretty good, however my eye fillet was cooked to more medium than medium rare.

Esgarcot were a delight, plenty of garlic and quite buttery.

The lamb was lovely!

Definitely would come back, extremely cute little restaurant if you want a local date night experience.

A hidden treasure this place. My first attempt at French cuisine .. loved the ambience, the soft french music and the food was delicious. The wine and Snails in garlic sauce a must must try . Friendly staff and very reasonable prices .. we had a salmon and lamb chops for main

Amazing traditional French food, it was quite a different experience to all the modern French restaurants in Melbourne. Make sure you try the snails!!

I use to live in Syndal and regularly visited this really cute French Restaurant. The food is always delcious and service very attentive . This place is truly a hidden gem hidden amongst a busy main road. Very hard to miss but very worth finding

Been to this lovely restaurant a few times now and it seems to gets better with every visit. Tried new things each time on the menu and all excellent dishes. Warm cosy atmosphere with very well knowledged staff about what there serving. Would definitely recommend coming to those lovely French restaurant

A small restaurant which is quite unassuming from outside so easy to miss from the road. Thanks to carpet inside it doesn't get too noisy even when full, but the hard wooden chairs get a bit uncomfortable after a while and the decor upstairs looks very worn & in need of renovation. But onto the food!

The onion soup for entree was delicious and the snails were apparently good with a strong garlic sauce. Previously I've seen snails already "de-shelled" but these were still intact and came with some nifty little implements to extract them.
The duck a l'orange was lovely, as was the fillet steak which came with some home made pate on top. These were only accompanied by roast potatoes and we would have appreciated the offer of more vegetables as the mains seemed incomplete without these but this wasn't available as it was a set menu for Valentine's Day. The other choices available were seafood for entree and salmon for main which did not appeal to us. There was only one dessert available which was the creme brûlée and this was acceptable and was accompanied by vanilla ice cream. The bread roll was abysmal as it looked like a semi stale supermarket roll from a packet. Tea and coffee were standard and I should mention there is a wide range of expensive wines available, probably too expensive for suburbia but we had a glass of merlot which went well with the meals. Service was efficient and polite.
Visited this restaurant tonight. Very disappointing to be honest. The food was not authentic and felt like a cheap Chinese restaurant trying to be French.

We shared the liver pate and prawn cocktail for entree. The pate was very cold and seemed similar to Coles quality, very hard pressed, not light and fluffy as it should have been, and it was served with toasted bread, not even tiny toasts. Disappointing. The prawn cocktail was interesting, it came with a side of iceberg lettuce, onion, cucumber, tomato and apple?

The prawns were ok but the sauce was definitely out of a bottle. All in all, it was not quality at all.

The mains were disappointing also. The barramundi wasn't fresh and had been frozen, the prawn cutlets were simply prawns in a heavy, sweet sauce again not nice.

The wine was well overpriced for what it was.

Service was abrupt, not friendly or jovial as you would expect from a French restaurant and was distinctly lacking in culture.

All in all it felt as though this restaurant had seen better days.

Sadly, although it is local, We will not be returning in a hurry.
On short notice my daughter and I were able to garner a table on Saturday night. While the boys were off at a 'Big Bash' this was the way petite she and I would rather spend our evening.

Unfortunately the weather was not conducive to tasting much of what looked great on the menu. It was swelteringly hot, so in spite of the temptation to the special Chicken and Celery Soup and most of the meat dishes, it was just. not. the. day.

Still, there was so seafood.....

A half dozen fresh Tasmanian oysters (Huitres Naturelles) with 'American Hot Sauce' and lemon. The oysters were either shucked to order, or not opened very long ago, as they still had all of their briny goodness, and were so plump and shiny, as if they'd just been pulled from the sea. It was the perfect start with our sparkling water, which we downed all night! The sauce was more of a Marie Rose sauce, as it was a mayo based option, my daughter and I both preferred the spanking fresh oysters just with the lemon in the end. Nearly forgot. we did grab a serve of garlic bread, two pieces of lightly toasted baguette, to munch as we settled i
n, it was fine.

I then selected a classic - and I could care less how out of fashion; (King) Prawn Cocktail (though our waiter wasn't sure what sort of prawns they were). A plate, rather than a cocktail glass of peeled prawns, with their heads still attached. They were perfectly cooked, medium, rather than large prawns, a moist and a delicious quintet. A chunk of iceberg lettuce was rather unceremoniously plopped on the plate with two little wedges of cucumber and the same of tomato - the same ingredients as partnered the oysters earlier, though some red onion slices too. Lo and behold the marie rose sauce was the same as for the oysters too.

My daughter chose Smoked Salmon and Prawn. This came with the same additions, iceberg chunk, cucumber, tomato, though it included capers. This too had the marie rose sauce. Again, the main ingredients were fine quality.

The best choice from the mains this hot day was the 'Fillet De Poisson Meuniere' a barramundi fillet with a lemon and parsley sauce. We were given fish knives which was a novelty for my daughter - in this case, they were more for looks, rather than purpose as we had fillets of fish, no bones, no skin, but still, Miss was pleased. The fish, once again, was perfect, just cooked as hoped. The sauce was actually both lemon-zesty and light, not a thick and rich sauce. Strangely, while we were given the fish on plates so hot the waiter had to wear mitts, it had those same salad ingredients, iceberg, tomato and cucumber pieces. As we were given a side of veg, I really think here, the salad was superfluous. Such a hot plate could potentially overcook a delicate fish too, it hadn't though. We both enjoyed the vegetables, the broccoli was simply steamed, the oddly shaped carrots, perhaps needed a minute or so more, but I adored the scalloped potatoes and the 'ratatouille'- that wasn't, but it's the closest we can think of in flavour, we could have had a serve of that and nothing else, it was great.

OK. Dessert. Hmm, I chose the Creme Brulee. Now it may be that my personal preference varies from tradition, but I like a cold, cold, silky custard below the freshly torched glassy-sugar top. I got the top, beautifully burnished with that perfect almost-bitter edge, but the custard was warm. That's a let down, it was smooth for sure, but I was looking forward to the wonderful cold contrast. As I said, that may just be my preference. Unfortunately there was an ice cream issue for me, that I don't think was personal preference. I did mention to the staff that the 'vanilla' ice cream just wasn't. Something was wrong with it. Not just that it wasn't to my taste, it tasted 'wrong'. While my server apologised to me, he also said they'd had no complaints. K, fair enough, some people don't complain, I wondered if the chef had tasted it though. I don't complain willy nilly, and we were the first guests for the evening having dessert. I hope they took note of others not finishing their ice cream, as I am confident that would be the case. Oh well.

My daughter loved her cherries. They were gently poached in kirsch, and served with a side of dark and rich chocolate sauce - that made miss very happy.

I'd like to go back again when much more of the menu would be an option - you know, if temps drop below 30C would do! Staff are friendly, when this little place is half-full of larger tables it's rather raucous in a friendly way, probably not the 'intimate' dinner a couple might wish then though! This is casual French food, with linen table cloths and napkins. I'd love to see a little more difference in some of the starters, but overall it was a pleasing meal, it would seem only best-quality proteins need apply, and that's a good thing.

This was hands-down the best- meat I've had the chance to taste. I had the Filet De Bouef (medium rare), and it was the most tender beef I ever had. Usually I find most beef in restaurants a bit chewy, even when I ask for medium rare. But this was the most tender and melt-in-your-mouth beef I've always hoped to enjoy one day in my life. The red wine sauce was also perfect - not too strong, but still strong enough for you to enjoy the rich, deep flavour, which complements well with the meat. The bacon also helped to add another layer, a salty addition to the already flavoursome meal, and helped to bring all the other flavours to life.

These dishes come with a side of vegetables too. My only feedback would be that I wish we had a bowl each!

My partner had the Veal avec Champignon. It was also very delicious. I only had one bite, but the mushroom sauce was so authentic.

The service is amazing. It is a small restaurant, and the food does take some time to come out. However the waiter we had for the evening definitely knew his stuff - and showed us a bit of what "fine dining" looked like. He was there seeing guests directly from the door when they came in, and walked them out. He laid out napkins, forks and knives with such fine style. He was working alone on the floor the night we visited, and I'm amazed he could put that much effort into every single guest who were dining there.

Tremendous effort, and I hope this quaint restaurant can continue providing fine, homely French cuisine in the southeastern suburbs!

Lovley restaurant and delishes cuisine. From entrees to desserts all the dishes are quite devine. Been here a few times over the years and never disappoints, service from staff is very welcoming and a very homely feel. Happily come back again and again and cannot recommend this establishment enough ☺

My friend and I went to la Gaulois restaurant last night for dinner and came away very disappointed. As soon as we entered the restaurant it was extremely noisy and cramped. Although the service and food was reasonable there was a major problem, I had to lean in to make conversation to each other. And there was one table making a hell of a lot noise who should have been told to quieten down to be considerate to other customers. in the end we hurried through our dessert and coffee and left. i will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. we were very disappointed.

Third visit in three years and the best of the three. The service here has always been impeccable. Quiet, attentive, knowledgeable and well timed. This is a quiet, intimate venue that does not seem to have changed over many years and I find this quite comforting. We had deep fried camembert entrees each as they are a favorite and they were fine. I had veal Normandy for main and loved it. My wife declared her duck main course was the best duck she has ever had with just the right amount of fat and it was cooked perfectly. Its a big claim but my policy is not to argue or question. We managed desserts as well. The profiteroles she had was the hero dish of the desserts but I loved the crepe suzette anyway. At the time I thought the wine by the glass was a bit pricey (my wife does not drink) but as we went to an upmarket steak place the next night the prices were on par. My one big disappointment was that they did not have soufflé on the dessert menu. I don't know if this is a regular thing or not but it would not stop me returning. I really enjoyed this visit - the food, ambience and service combined perfectly for a memorable night out. I must add that this was a mid week visit so it was quieter than I believe it is on the weekends.

A tiny restaurant in Glen Waverley that serves up yummy, simple French food. I can't really comment on how authentic it is, but the food tastes very homely, and the overall ambience of the restaurant gives off a very "grandma's homecooking" kind of feel. Although tasty, the dishes were a little too rich for my liking, probably due to a heavy use of butter. It was an enjoyable meal, and I would likely return.
Jimmy Chew Food
Sauces and flavours for the meats are excellent, though perhaps slightly too rich. The porterhouse was not really medium rare as ordered, a bit over-cooked. The escargot were very buttery but reasonably enjoyable. Overall I enjoyed the meal despite the imperfections

I had dinner with my family of 4 for my ex's birthday. Wow, is this place stuck in a 70's time warp! Sole meunière?? Are you kidding me? Meal was expensive and completely underwhelming. My ex did enjoy his duck, but the rest of us were left saying wtf? We paid $360 for four, including drinks which I reckon is a lot for a very suburban tired old place. I don't understand how they keep attracting customers in the 21st century!

I thought I would do a trip down memory lane to one my favourite restaurants growing up. Our family would always have special b'days at Le Gaulois, a french restaurant in Glen Waverley. We used to get so excited when we had booked dinner as we loved the hearty food and the lovely service. I hadn't been for over 7 years and after having a crap French meal the other night I booked into see if Le Gaulois was still the same. It was a Thursday night and there were only 2 tables booked in the restaurant. Everything was exactly the same as I had remembered. We were pretty ravenous, so we ordered some herb bread to start off with which packs a lot of flavour and butter. I was pleased to see that the menu hadn't changed at all and there were still my favourites on there. For entree we shared the duck pate which came with some toast. The pate taste reminds of fois gras, it came out with a tangy cranberry and mustard sauce. I've always loved the Scallops in mornay sauce and that was one

Fair Average Quality. It is quite a time since we visited this little French restaurant located in the east of Melbourne. Actually, it was a trip down memory lane as little has changed in the intervening period since we were last there. However, I do believe the chef has changed. We chose to visit on New Year's Eve, to keep us from the ravages of New Year's Eve revellers in the city.

Both of the entrees and main courses we enjoyed were very presentable and enjoyable. Carole ventured her King Prawn Salad was very, very enjoyable, and one of the best she has had recently. On the other hand, my escargot was good and I thoroughly enjoyed it, beautifully buttery with a fine selection of herbs and crusty bread to soak up the remnants after the escargot had been devoured - I did enjoy it.

Carole thoroughly enjoyed her Duck a l’Orange - again, very fresh and amongst the best of recent times. I ordered the veal and mushrooms which duly arrived and I thought was delicious. Couldn't fault the dish and enjoyed that part of our meal. We had a salad to accompany the main courses which once more, was very fresh and delightful. The scalloped potatoes were of excellent quality and enjoyable – these accompanied the main courses.

The portion control was quite tight which left room for dessert. Carole chose the trio of ice creams which was quite a disappointment in contrast to the first two courses. I always have had a soft spot for Crepe Suzette, so it was a disappointment with the quality of the crêpes served. Unfortunately, they just didn't do it for me and I was most disappointed with the very tight portion control and the quality of the sauce that accompanied the dessert and the crêpe in general. The deserts were very disappointing and contrasted significantly from the quality of the first two courses.

Coffee and tea were served, and once more, the quality was very disappointing indeed.

Table service was disappointing and whilst our courses arrived with a suitable spacing between, the communication skills of some of the staff was particularly difficult and hard to get your needs understood.

Wine list was adequate, portion control quite tight, perhaps unnecessarily.

Prices – we felt the prices were somewhat higher than they should have been set, and even though it was New Year's Eve, the quality of the meal did not deserve the high prices that were attributed to each course.

Overall, the first half of the meal was enjoyable and the quality was good. However, the second part was very disappointing and really depressed the overall favourable impression of the restaurant. Finally, we felt the wait staff communication difficulties really let the kitchen staff down and also reflected adversely on the restaurant.

The question is would we return – at this point with so many other great restaurants in Melbourne, we would find it hard to return, but will probably consider doing so at some later stage.

Pretty yum. Went on a Sunday night and it was pretty quiet. Was greeted by a lovely gentleman (I can only assume the owner or owner's son as he looked like he worked in corporate Mon-Fri) and seated. The place felt pretty cold with a draught coming through.

All the food was delicious and looked pretty enough. Entrees were the stand out. The mains were nicely cooked, but each dish was just the piece of meat and then the 4 of us shared sides of scalloped potatoes (super cheesy) and "seasonal vegetables". I would have preferred a little more thought go into each main and have a complete dish come out. But with one bloke in the kitchen, this is obviously the best way for them to churn out the food.

Entrees won out in the end, but still an enjoyable meal. Would go again.

Quack quack.. This place ran like clockwork. We'd made a booking and were running a little late. Got seated immediately and felt welcome as you should at a restaurant. Each one of the staff were polite and prompt on our orders. We ordered the snails, which neither of us had ever tried before. Quite surprised to find that we both enjoyed them

We went there for Mother's Day, it was very good and staff were nice and polite. We did not have to wait as it was not busy but just smooth service and very nice food. We will come back!

Excellent Service. This is an absolutely gorgeous restaurant with excellent service and good food! I was greeted with such warm welcome by the waiter and was escorted to my table. Everything on the menu seemed mouthwatering just from the sound of it. I ordered Special Eye Fillet which came with beautiful mushroom sauce (I have to admit it was one of the best mushroom sauce i've ever had!). For dessert I had crepes which was again more than what I could ask for!!! Everything was awesome, and especially the service offered by the young waiter (he made sure I never had an empty glass of water)! All in all, this was one of the most pleasant restaurants i've been to, and I'm definitely coming back!
Chris Mcmullin
Decent but not great. Pepper steak was cooked to liking but the sauce was more like gravy than a cognac base with green peppercorns. The duck, somewhat tough, with orange sauce had no taste of orange, again more like a base gravy, with a small orange section the only clue to the listed fare. The profiteroles were good but the creme brûlée was extremely bland. End result satisfied the hunger but won't be back, not a good anniversary dinner when you expect fine dining.

Average food - bad services - too expensive for the presentation quality - room for inprovement - shall not get the waiter to do the dishwashing - too cheap - asian owner

Aderlaide. My family had dinner in the restaurant last Sunday night. We ordered onion soup which was terribly salty that we never had before in our life. The fish my son ordered was quite good but the steak with beacon wrap was quite salty and cooked poorly. I had been in this restaurant 3 times recent year, This was the worst experience I had. I guest the chef probably had changed and now was not a French cook. I think I would not go back again and feel very disappointed.

Excellent - always fully booked !. Have been here several times and never disappointed.

Lamb cutlets, duck l'orange and eye fillet steak all perfect.

Desserts excellent (crepe suzette fantastic).

My only criticism here is the meals were slow tonight (fully booked Sat night) and the desserts took almost 40mins to come out. The service definitely could have been faster. A three course meal for four took 3 hours tonight which pushed our patience.

The wine by the glass menu is very limited so best to B.Y.O as the extensive full bottle list is very pricey.

Overall excellent food and ambience and a surprising gem in Glen Waverley (Syndal).

Will definitely be back.

Lovely restaurant. Beautiful food. Steak (both mine and my partner's) was cooked perfectly. Very reasonably priced for a special dinner. Service was excellent. Will definitely go back.

French in the suburbs. Food is quite good and is value for money. Wine list is ok with a range of options available as well as aged cellar releases.
Basic settings and service is good.
Good value suburban restaurant - Well worth the visit!
Robert_boot
Bad experience. Oh, mon dieu, terrible! We went there to celebrate a friend's 60th. Even though there were but few diners, we had to rpeatedly request to be served, the snails (escargots) were tiny and yuck, making me think that they'd been harvested from the footpath on a rainy night, crap wine, not French but Asian, the toilet upstairs was filthy and the prices would make Maxim's blanch. Give it a miss.
Min_dex
Good night out. Great service and food. Good atmosphere and reasonable prices. We will definitely be back again.

Interesting. I came here with a group of friends and ordered the Lamb Steak... It was VERY rare, almost Blue Steak. They didn't ask me how I wanted it cooked. It looked like they only seared the sides. I had it returned and cooked a little longer. Also tried the Snails and Crepe Suzette.
For the price, I wasn't too impressed with what I got.
I wouldn't go back again.

The rare lamb steak knocked my very resilient tummy for a six ! Not so sure I want to go back.

Un tresor veritable. Close your eyes and block your ears and you could be at a good quality suburban restaurant in Paris. The food is authentic and well presented; the service is excellent; the price is right. Its neighbours are Chinese, Indian and South East Asian, but it manages to bring a little bit of Paris to the banlieu de Melbourne. The attention to service exceeds that experienced in many downtown 'exclusive' restaurants. We will be back - often.

Having no idea about French cuisine, but keen to try, we were hoping for recommendations from the staff. Needless to say we left disappointed.

Value for money. We came here for Mothers Day dinner and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of food given that it's a suburban restaurant. The French onion soup was fantastic and gives some city establishments a run for their money. It was great that vegetable sides were served with our mains as often you need to order them separately which adds to the cost. Steaks were all cooked as requested which can be hit or miss as I'm into steaks that still moo. Lighting is a little on the dark side, but I suppose it adds to the ambience. All in all, well worth the drive!
Elle
This was our 3rd or 4th time here and have never been disappointed. We took friends who had never been. Everything was excellent, the service, the food, the price, our friends were very impressed. Thanks for another great night Le Gaulois! We'll be back with more friends.

Old favourite. My family has been going to le gaulois for so many years and it has NEVER been bad. food is always superb (sure, we all order the same dishes everytime the staff almost don't need to bother giving us menus, but why fix something that aint broke!), staff are very polite and efficient unlike so many restaurants these days where the staff seem like they're too cool to do their job properly, and the quaint ambience makes you feel like you could be in pareeeee! but i do find it quite dark in the dim light and often feel very sleepy by the end of my meal hahaha

my (highly recommended) regular meal:-
herb/garlic bread
pâté
vegetarian vol au vents or the main prawns
apple tart or sticky date pudding
Mark
Went there last Thursday with a group of friends service was great and food was good. Only thing I didn't like was vegetables served separately otherwise a very enjoyable dining experience

Gem of a restaurant. My husband and I have dined here several times , on our own and with friends, and have found Le Gaulois to be consistently good service and great food.
Between us, we have tried several of the dishes and have not been disappointed. Not only is the food delicious, the prices are great as well AND if you wish , you can bring your own wine. The only negative is that the toilets are upstairs although a little exercise can be a good thing after all that fantastic food.

Le Gaulois... C'est Magnifique!. I was going to take my wife to Le Gaulois a year ago for our anniversary, but decided to go to Russian Accent instead. Tonight (Wednesday) was our first dinner at Le Gaulois, and I must say that I was incredibly impressed. The wait-staff were Very friendly, very accommodating and extremely polite. A full professional service is offered here, just like days gone by. I don't usually tip, but felt so strongly about the quality of service that I left a generous tip.

Upon recommendation from other reviewers, we bought our own wine. The wine list offers a good selection, but if budget dining is a concern, then BYO is recommended.

We chose Escargot and I also had the soup of the day (chicken and asparagus), both were filled with rich and subtle tastes. We also ordered the herb and garlic bread for starters, the garlic bread was great, but the herb bread was nothing short of a work of art! Who thought bread could be so tasty? For mains, my wife ordered the Duck L'Orange and I ordered the Veal in mushroom sauce. Each was served with seasonal vegetables and scalloped potatoes. The vegetables were fresh and crisp. The veal dish was succulent and tasty, the sauce subtle and hearty. I was so impressed with the veal, it's close to the best I have eaten.

As for the duck, my wife gave me a few tastes of her dinner and I nearly fell off my chair! This was easily the best duck I have ever tasted, it was a succulent, generous serving (too often duck is mostly bones and shredded meat), whilst the sauce complemented the dish with a flavoursome and subtle taste.

For dessert I had the Sticky Date Pudding which was moist, tasty, and the sauce was sweet with hints of brandy. My wife ordered the Creme Brulee which she loved also. An amazing night from top to bottom, complete with the beautiful voice of Edith Piaf echoing in the background (naturally).

In regards to the ambience, it appears to have changed from the pictures I have seen previously. Dark-wood chairs and tables, linen table cloths and French Decor. My one slight constructive comment would be to change some of the pictures on the wall, lots of French pictures (most were ok), but I would recommend hanging some prints from some of the great French masters to further highlight the ambience and dining experience. The dim lighting provided a very romantic setting. Dinner cost us $60 a head, which was quite reasonable, as we didn't hold back in our selection.

I would highly recommend this quaint little restaurant, a real hidden gem in the Eastern suburbs. I am planning to return and try some of the other dishes on offer, and will happily recommend this dining experience to my family, friends, and urbanspoon.com browsers.
