Review Richmond Oysters - Glen Waverley

This joint was a great place to dine in. Reading through the comments, we decided not to order the fish sashimi and go for the "Seafood Platter" instead. The seafood were fresh and the hot food served with the platter was excellent. The portion is generous for its price compared to your other usual fancy dining restaurants. Service was impeccable too. I would definitely come back.

Looked forward to some exciting food and ordered some entrees to gauge the menu. Found the tastes of the oyster dressings to be very mainstream, the oysters themselves were good, but overall average. Cevice fish was a winner, best of what we tasted. Scallops had grit through them - assume it was sand and again not very distinctive in flavour. Didn't bother with the mains after this as the staff didn't seem interested in serving us and for the prices we figured it was not worth it.

Good food, nice restaurant. We had a 2-for-1 voucher deal, good value. Set entrees, choice of 5 mains, choice of any dessert, glass of wine. We had paella and linguini. Good portions and enjoyable. Waiters are friendly enough and helpful.

Very satisfied with quality and quantity of food and friendly service. Seafood Grazer offered a nice selection of dishes to share, the paella was absolutely delicious, and we left the restaurant with large bellies. Would definitely come again.

It's not Richmond. Anytime we have seafood, we head to the original Richmond Oysters (in Richmond). On Saturday, we tried the Glen Waverley restaurant and we won't be going back. Here's why. 1) Service - slow and less than enthused. Numerous waiters walked past my table looking at me blankly asking if we'd ordered the food they were carrying was ours - it wasn't. 15 minutes to get a glass of wine. 2) Food - Oysters Kilpatrick with bacon but no sauce, less than impressive Lobster which had a floury taste. Overall there just didn't seem like there was any focus, and I don't know if it is their strategy to serve sub-par food. I won't be going back when I know I can go to the original and have an amazing meal and time.

Good pedigree, sadly NQR ..... They've expanded with the pedigree and big name of Richmond Oysters to Glen Waverley, prominetly located on one of the corner of Kingsway Parade, the food esplanade. This site is used to be occupied by cafe Zest 89 and the Steak place upstairs. Simply renovated, not much changed including the toilets, except the front glass, bigger, and brighter from the outside, must be from the new funky lighting. The simple A4 Menu with a quick lesson in Oysters is concise and very inviting. On the Food side ..... from the start Calamaris were not battered nor cooked well & cold toasted Bread and dip were okay. Wonderfully presented on a hot plate Saganaki was so tough , although those cherry tomatoes was the best perfomers, balancing the saltiness of the Saganaki. Seafood Risotto on a Paella pan was served as Paella Risotto (which we've ordered), salty and missing that crusty bottom. Linguini; pasta was al dente but the olio sauce was not quite right, I've ordered prawns as it was suggested by the waiter, but it came with crab meats. On the dessert side .... The Coconut Panna Cotta was off/bad/bitter/taste poisonous, they blamed it on the ingredient, the Black Olives, so another dessert was served, Chocolate Delice and it was bad too, the Chocolate was bitter and Ice Cream was tasted too much alcohol, could be good for some. Wines by the glass, pricey but mostly good; Heathcote Shiraz and Riesling, although the Fat Bastard Pinot Noir was ordinary. Waiting staff were busy with the full house, hence they were looking tired, the many loud noises of broken dishes coming from the kitchen did not enhanced the dining experience. I'm sure they are doing their best. I just hope that pedigree and legacy of Richmond Oysters can continue, as it was a very disappointing night. Surely you can do better, c'mon guys!

Delicious. I don't know what the previous reviewer is talking about. Absolutely delightful meal. Fantastic service. My parents enjoyed themselves and so did I. :):) will be back!

Good quality seafood and grills well cooked. Prices are about right for the quality/quantity. Service was friendly and competent but quite slow at times.

Big fan of the Richmond oyster bar in oakleigh, was underwhelmed by the new store in GW. Staff knowledge of wine menu and general menu was pretty average. Food servings also average for size.

Through Liven we found tacos on Kingsway (Main street in Glen Waverley)! There isn't a Mexican place on the strip, but Richmond Oysters does tacos, only prawn tacos. There are some more of them around known for their seafood platters, but this is a small branch.

Came here during the lunch special so the price was quite reasonable-yay. I ordered the shellfish linguini which I thought was nicely cooked and had a good portion of mussels and pipis. Customer service was also good.

Had a 70th birthday luncheon at Glen Waverley in March 2017. Excellent!!! All who attended enjoyed the set menu selection, wines and host Steve provided wonderful service. In fact, our guests are still commenting on the wonderful seafood, venue and service.
We continue to enjoy Richmond Oysters Glen Waverley & Oakleigh.
John

Been there last night with friends.good service very poor wine selection, food wise I had the salmon special was just over cook, my wife got the risotto saffron and was nothing special. Average meals sorry

How can I start this?

Such a shame they've reduced their platters selection...interesting as I find their platter not as interesting as pescare in century city.

Sorry to say but I find their platter very average and not really worth the price they set it at. Bring back the other platters, then we can compare.

Was very disappointed with the food.. mussels still had the beards on them and my scallops ( 6 x 5cent size scallops for 18$) had 3 pieces of sand/ rock in them! Food was way overpriced for the quality and quantity of the food served. The 1.5 is for the staff who are friendly!

I don't know if its because I ate in a different branch or ordered a different dish, but my experience eating here was just average and for me I wouldn't pay this value for the food.

The last time I ate at the Richmond branch, I really enjoyed the fresh seafood platter we had. But this time around when we ordered the cooked seafood platter in Glen the taste was just average.. had a seafood linguini was bland and disappointing.. They seem to be lacking waitstaff as well because the service was slow eventhough the place wasn't packed anymore

We had a very pleasant time at Richmond Oysters for a family dinner. We were shown to a table deep in the restaurant, right next to the impressive fish cabinet! The restaurant itself is sleek and the staff are quite knowledgeable. The menu is extensive - with so many delicious seafood choices we definitely took our time with selecting! Everything was cooked very well - my whole fried baby snapper was almost fun to eat! Would highly recommend the ceviche - we had salmon and tuna which was refreshing. Unfortunately we were a bit disappointed by the size of the portions in the prawn dishes. Next time we must try the decadent sounding seafood platters!

Despite hearing lots of good things from friends, the food was quite average, it was pricey for what we got and the service was low. They were unaccommodating with gf options despite saying gluten free options on the page. The waiters/waitress was also a bit too "attentive" as they asked a number of times asking whether we had finished with our meals. Finally, they wiped down our table the moment they took our plates away which made us feel like they were rushing to get us out of there despite it being a quiet night for them.

Overall, a disappointing experience at Richmond oysters.

It's take too long to wait! I don't know what the chef doing in the kitchen! That's a really bad experience! Not only for the waiting time, the customer service is really bad not professional and argue with me!

wouldnt recommend this place to anyone, slow service (it cost me one hour to wait), hotel food level.. if you want to eat seafood, maybe go seafood market, which will make you happier than this.

We decided to try Richmond oysters after hearing good things about this place and we also had an entertainment book voucher, so that was an added bonus! We arrived quite late on a Friday night (around 8.30-9) and the restaurant was still quite busy. We ordered the paella and clam chowder with hand cut chips. The chowder had great flavours however there were clams with shells (not sure if this is the norm) but some shells had broken and can be loose in the soup which made it an unpleasant experience to eat. My partner and I thought the paella was great as well as the chips (note: the hand cut chips are very thick!). Next time we will try the fish n chips!

Warm evening decided to sit outside. First impressions are lasting ones..... sticky table. Don't you hate that. Come on guys it's not an ice cream parlor on the Gold Coast.
Kicked off with the oysters how could you dine a a place with oysters in its name and not try them.
Linguini with crab meat for a main. Nothing jumped out at me to come running back for a second visit but with that said the area is hot with choices on where to eat.
Julie
We had the seafood platter for 2 people and 3 sides. The table was too small with the platter in the middle and as 2 sides were on the opposite side to me I never got to taste them. The hot seafood was also a little cold when it came out. For the money we paid, it was a little disappointing. Service is good but don't think I would go back.

Came here for dinner on a Friday night and we are able to grab a table anywhere we wanted as the restaurant was not busy.

Service: 5/5 it was impeccable the moment we stepped in to the moment we left

Atmosphere: clean, new, spacious and comfortable (no loud music thank God)

Food: 8 natural Pacific oysters with all the sauces, mussel pot, clam chowder and crab linguine. All the dishes were a standout, they all tasted amazing!! Serving sizes were acceptable too. But EXCEPT the linguine. Without prejudice, we found the linguine to be too average with no flavour at all (bland). It was too boring.

Even though the linguine was a let down, we will without a doubt return soon to try the other dishes.

Went for lunch with friends. Awesome experiences there. Excellent service! Fresh seafood, good coffee! Highly recommended. Definitely will go there again.

The oyster and lobster are fresh and yummy. Sashimi is not right with the way they cut and the dressing. The squid ink risotto is delicious too. Service (Michael) is extraordinary which made it a memorable dinner

Was hoping to get a seafood fix. Customer service was great, the place was really nice and clean. Seatings available inside for those cold rainy days and outside seats are perfect for those sunny days. We were told by the waiter that this Glen branch doesnt do platters. I was quiet disappointed to that. The biggest disappointment was the sashimi, it came out as a very small portion dish that had dressing. The 'salad'on top was more than the sashimi. Maybe will return for their grilled salmon or seafood pasta one day.

Richmond Oysters, what a shock i had with the price, I've seen and been to better seafood restaurants with better quality and the price didn't shock the hell out of me, had a platter of fish and salmon, felt like it was straight out of the freezer, without been thawed out properly, so overrated, should have crossed the road to China Bar...

Richmond Oyster Bar Glen Waverley is really very good. We found the food to be beautifully fresh and the staff were helpful and informative.

Soft shell crab, mussel pot, oysters, prawns and snapper were all extremely tasty.

Only criticism would be that the hard surface finishes of the restaurant tend to make it noisy, but I would very happily eat there again.

We have been here for Valentine's Day with appointment but wait over 1 hour for the food .................:.never seen any restaurant slower than this

This is quality Australian seafood with classy service. Baulk at the price only if you are fine with overfished and imported seafood, I'd rather pay a bit more here knowing I can choose sustainable . The menu at Richmond Oysters (in Glen Waverley) shows you where this fresher-than-fresh seafood comes from. On the menu you can find an easy-to-read break down of where the fish comes from - apart from a couple of NZ options you're looking at Aus from Albany (Western Rock Lobster) to Wallis Lake (Sydney Rock Oysters) and plenty of Vic fishies as well.

Getting to Glen Waverley is a bit easier for us these days than a trip to Richmond, and parking here is...well it *is* easier too, though on a Sunday night Kingsway was humming.

A pre-Saint Valentine's dinner just The Lovely Man and myself, a Seafood Platter seemed the only way to go. We added to this a whole crayfish ('Lobster') which seemed very good value for a special occasion at $80.00. The Seafood Platter is $158.00 and was, in reality enough for two, and a great price. Highlights were the Bass Strait Scallops and the Local Prawn Cutlets; real, delicate scallops not the water-pumped imports - and with their roe attached, perfectly cooked, and perfectly bouncy prawns with a drinkable sauce (yes I did) each served in a scallop half shell - three scallops each and two prawns each. A half a bug each with a great, fresh, salsa verde and the grilled fish of the day (Snapper today) were perfectly cooked and tasting of themselves (and a touch of smoke from the grill with the fish).

The XO sauce that we had with one of half of the cray was all you would expect - and yet - philistines we may be - the other half we had, 'natural' with just a little caviar was our favourite - can't beat mother nature's perfection! Great chips, yummy saffron aioli that I may have dunked more than just chips in.

The oysters were brilliant, had one in a Bloody Mary Shot (that was fun), O/H had a half a doz 'New Kilpatrick' he'd have again, thanks to the house-made BBQ sauce and there was an amazing pineapple and rum granita that 'magicked' my oysters to something out of this world, though the house sauce was nice too.

I shouldn't have had room for dessert - yes we ordered the extra oysters after the seafood platter - which doesn't sound so bad except that I didn't even mention there was also salmon, s & p calamari, anchovy croutons (great), mussle pot, tempura soft shell crab - and then more. It was all delicious. The squid ink arancini were not on the menu though, and the arancini we had in their place - we were unsure of for the first, but the second we grew to like. I felt there was a touch of marzipan flavour about them, weird (me), but there you have it, they weren't 'bad' and every single piece of seafood was perfectly cooked.

So in spite of that, I had dessert while he had a (very good) coffee - I often ask how his coffee is and he will say it's 'ok' - that he volunteered the information that it's good coffee means it's really good! Right, so the Golden Gaytime, how could I go past. Topped with Persian fairy floss, this was all you could hope, creamy, nutty, honeycombey...yummier than its namesake and a perfect way to end the meal.

Again, service is tops here, quality of seafood is too - get what you pay for I recon. Finally great, classy seafood closer to home. Though I bet the fish and chips here are winners too.*Tip, consider being a member of the Oyster Club for future discounts.

I was very excited when this came out considering I'm a huge fan in the one in Richmond. We got the platter and chowder as per usual and the flavours here feel like they have an Asian influence but it doesn't come together very nicely. But it's okay if it's the first time there.

Walked in around 9.15 and was pleasantly surprised by the service. Most places wouldn't take walk ins 15 minutes prior to closing, but the service was excellent.

Seafood was very fresh and the waitress knew the menu well enough to recommend dishes and portion sizes.

Service was very good. We ordered Seafood Platter, was plenty for 2 of us and you got good variety. Expensive but at the end of the days Seafood is expensive

I took my mother here for her birthday. Amongst the group of us we had a seafood platter and a red wine risotto for the non-seafooder. This joint gets noisy, very noisy in fact to the point where it was almost pointless trying to have a conversation with others on the table. The seafood platter was good but I most certainly wouldn't rave about it nor right a book about it. Apparently the red wine risotto was terrible.....and don't let me forget timing! The risotto came out the same time as our share/starters came out. Not all bad, the soft shell crab was an absolute winner.

Probably one of the worst seafood experiences I've had. Don't be misled by the Richmond Oysters name as it's a complete different level of food from its Richmond store. Oysters very fishy, king prawns tasted mushy like frozen ones. Service was good but at that pricing, not enough to make me go back.

Decided to try this new seafood joint, 6 of us celebrated a friends birthday.
admittedly the birthday boy wasnt a big seafood fan.

We had a selection of oysters as an entree which was fanatastic two types . Both were excellent, they tasted slightly different but hard to explain.

Mains we had a few serves of fish including toothfish which we had never heard of. Waiter explained the origin and flavour and pros/cons of it so we decided try. It was different to the normal fish we have tried. All our mains were really fresh seafood and some nice sides too.

Fabulous service by our waiter throughout, friendly and professional, even remembered our different types of water continuously topped up.

The bartenders Espresso Martinis were all awesome! nice and strong too.

This is a great place for all your seafood needs!

Took my husband to lunch at Richmond Oysters and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The staff were welcoming, topped up my water throughout the service and we enjoyed 2 courses of delicious food (calamari and soft shell crab) I'd definitely go back again!

Group of us visited the other night, greeted happily despite no reservation, we were not expecting to get a table. Waiter explained the specials and even gave us a sample of the wine we wanted. We opted to try the special scallops and they were amazing!! We ended up having a platter and Barramundi and a side. The platter was fresh and great value. The barramundi was a good size and tasted super fresh. One of the sides came a bit late but that was the only drawback.

One of the most freshest seafood meals I ve had plus the most professional waiter i can remember. Golden gaytime dessert reminded me of my childhood and was very good. Will be back again!

A bit pricey but it was a good night

Richmond oysters Glen Waverley is one of the best seafood
restaurants I’ve been to and I’ve eaten at the Atlantic and Water-Front and the
other two Richmond Oysters shops.

Big table of us tonight had lots of different things to
share and it was amazing I highly recommend it. The garlic prawns was amazing
the calamari was just heaven and my steak was great. For a seafood venue the
quality of the steak was comparable to that steak place down the road I loved
the bread on the bread board and the service and wine was great I will be back definitely.
didn't try any desserts but the golden gay time looked great.

First service, absolutely top class! We were seated outside and our glasses were always full and dirty plates taken away quickly! The food were also delicious and seafood FRESH! I do not like cook fish as I hate the stinky fishy smell, But had cooked salmon in the pasta and not a slight hint of fishy smell. Definitely will go back to share a platter.

After visiting all three i must say this one is the most interesting. The flavours are very Asian which is great as i love asian food! We had the snapper fried with xo the slaw on top was amazing the oysters where super fresh and the tuna on our mixed grill was to die for as was the eye fillet covered in herb butter. The service on the other hand needs work for the prices they charge they need to up the ante. on a number of occasions i had to ask for a refill and for the amount we spent i thought for sure we would have been looked after much better than that. in all i will say if you want good food go to Glen Waverley if you want great service go to Oakleigh and if your after atomsphere then Richmond is for you they are all great venues but they all fail to deliver in one spot or another. I will say it's worth the journey if you can afford it.
T
One time I went and had the atlantic salmon and tonight I had the mussel pot. Honestly it was delicious... can not complain! I have had mussel pots from cheaper places and felt the same though, similar to the salmon so that is the only reason I would not give it a 5! But overall the staff were EXCELLENT and the new venue is beautiful!! So good that it's on Kingsway 😍

I have been to richmond oysters twice now the first time we came had the fish and chips and it was well fish and chips was very nice and fresh, batter was very crispy and flakey. We also had the oysters angasi natural loved them.

Second time round we had the live scallops and the special pasta with lobster and we also shared a whole snapper with xo sauce and it was to die for. service is charming. we will return
John McDonough
Food was ok but overpriced. What came out did not match expectations - tempura oysters more beer battered than tempura, beans and fish under whelming. Also got a doggy oyster that I spat out carefully. That happens so it was just disappointing the waiter did not question. Hope it improves - I love the restaurant and cafe culture in Glen waverley and want them to prosper.

Ok so I've been to all three of the Richmond Oysters but this has got to be the best so far I thought Oakleigh was a step up but this is different and very cool looking venue. Glen Waverley I think out of the three is so similar to Richmond in a way but different in taste and service is great. Il start with the food it was fast and tasted amazing the chowder is probably my favourite at the Glen Waverley store and the scampi was seriously amazing but maybe a little too much $$ for the area but id still order it again just to revisit the flavours of the herb butter and cucumber. We also had the lobster with XO with our seafood platter and seriously was one of the best XO sauces I've tried for years, they say the chef makes it but all places tend to say things are home made. Everything on the platter was cooked to perfection. I will say one thing its very Asian influenced this menu!! But I guess it is in the middle of china town Glen Waverley. The service is fast and full of energy I love the way Richmond Oysters are not your typical stale staff that just come to do the job and go home our waiter had stories and all sorts to tell us and was very entertaining. The wine was great (not that Richmond Oysters have anything to do with wine) as always and the company was even better.
Andrew
This would have to the most overpriced restaurant that I have possibly ever been to
To charge $26 for 1 scampi is to the say the least, outrageous. $36 for 3 medium size prawns which were dry and over cooked is another example. I won't be going again.
Very disappointing
TSG
Reckon is totally overpriced. Big fan of seafood, we had the Thai fish cake(which is pretty chewy and lack of taste. this is pretty bad for $14). And the soft sell crab from the sharing menu as well( still lack of taste and a bit over fried which gave the taste of burned $16), the sharing Pattison is really small compare to the price. The grilled barramundi was ok , with a side of chip taste the same with maccas'a chips for $42). Don't think we will go back for the overpriced.
Michelle Leong
I have never been a fan of seafood for as long as I remember as I can barely tolerate fishy odours or the thought of having to work my way around fine bones to get a decent feed. My parents would be familiar with this picky habit of mine and often enough, resort to punishing me should I reject my meals.
