Review O’town - Glen Waverley

Sunny Days Melbourne
O’Town in Glen Waverley has been around awhile and it continues to be a consistent player. ☀️The sunny bits: First up, the service was nice and welcoming. Ordering is done by writing down what you want so the chances of mistakes are reduced. It didn’t take long for our food to reach our table. The chicken noodle soup was comfortingly tasty. The laksa broth was full of flavour and the chee cheong fun was very authentic. Serving sizes were above average while prices were below average - my favourite kind of formula! ☁️The cloudy bits: The interior was slightly run down but it added to the authentic Malaysian experience. ⭐️The forecast: O’Town, you’ve done it again!👍

Went on Saturday night without a booking since everything else was busy and had queue. This place was quiet and almost looked like they were doing some work because there were some ribbon tapes near the front. The menu was extensive, I tried their fish fillet noodle soup which I never had before. Not sure what it supposed to taste like, but the soup was so bland. I like their fish fillet, it was nice. The portion was quite big, but I struggled to eat it as it was very bland. Also tried their roti canai with beef rendang. It was very nice, but very small portion which was weird because everything else was big in portion. Overall was a bit hit and miss, but might try other dishes because it’s quite cheap for the portion.

First visit to this Malaysian restaurant. Good spot as it is on kingways st thus plenty carpark. The restaurant has plenty 2 or 4 chairs table. The staffs were responsive but polite. Ordered nasi lemak and ipoh chicken + honey tea. Tasteful and yummy. Big serve too, should have shared 1 dish :D. Otherwise the price is great. Definitely recommended

First time being here since it relocated. Nice place, simple and no nonsense. Food was delicious and very quick. Also very competitively priced. Interior and atmosphere was also simple but warming. Good layout and easy for a small group of 4-6. The only reason it lost a point, was that I felt the menu needed a bit more detail on what was inside the dishes, especially for those who are new to Malaysian dishes.

Food below par, the worse is the chak koay teow I had has clam shell, and when I informed the waiter, the cook told the waiter it is very normal and common. Not even a word of sorry or take noted but rather defense. The chee cheong fun also taste funny.

as a Malaysian who comes to Melbourne, every now and then, my bench mark would be that of KL/PJ/Ipoh/Penang where street food rates at the highest rating. The street food is mediocre and below average and weakly presented. You would hardly find any non Asian patron here as opposed to other eateries along Kingway eatery. I have eaten in other Asian eateries a tad better but few would be as good as a good hawker in humble Malaysian eateries. Overall average and even 'good' for those whom don' t benchmark against Penang/Ipoh (Malaysian cities) hawkers fare 'what you dun know will not hurt you' or make you as critical as me.

Been there couple of times for some quick meals. Services were alright. Foods just average.

Good restaurant… food was okay no bad.. inside of the restaurant was soo cold

I felt like rojak during the night last Friday. So I ordered the Malaysian salad and curry Mee, the soup didn't had any taste which was quite disappointing, there was sambal chili that didn't make much difference. As for the rojak was a bit disappointed it had lot of sauce but the cucumber was a bit old that spoil it. The service was decent. I hope the broth for the curry Mee to be improve and have more taste

Beef rendang - meat is too dry and lack of spices. The Hainanese Chicken is too fatty. There is only thin layer of chicken meat as there is thick layer of chicken fat/skin.

Yummy the food is was great especially White curry noodle , ice kacang , samba kangkong I be back soon

Situated near the bus stops it’s a less busier part of Glen Waverley but nevertheless this joint is always packed ! We tried the authentic curry mee and satay skewers . The curry mee had good flavour but not much in the dish but noodles . The satay skewers was delicious , meat was a bit dry
Jamie
Our go-to Malaysian stop. The flavours are spot on. Although their roti can be a bit on the oiler side, we still get it sometimes. The dishes are all reasonably price.
Hungry Lil Devil
Great Malaysian place for a quick casual meal. Very reasonably priced compared to other Malaysian joints in Glen Waverley. Have been back several times already.
The Merlion
Tried the hokkien char mee yesterday, Singapore style, and it was not too bad at all. Quite impressed. This is a version of hokkien Mee which you can hardly find in Melbourne. Enjoyed it!

Off from the busy Kingsway strip, O’Town is still always buzzing during meal times. The good thing is that wait times aren’t too long. We ordered the dry Wantan mee, Assam laksa, Sar hor fun and vegetarian Mee goreng and all were tasty and flavoursome. The Rojak was nice too. The Hokkien mee was only alright - didn’t really have the wok flavour. Great value for money, generous portions and friendly customer service. Ample street parking.

Ordered hot coffee, but it was cold. They straight away put into microwave for heat up. Very disappointed. Even can not serve a good Malaysian coffee.

I really enjoyed their dry noodles with curry here! Probably one of the nicest I’ve had in Melb, since it’s not a dish you see frequently. Teh ais was alright, but probably wouldn’t order again.<br/><br/>Really love the kopitiam feel of this place.
Lil’MissNyonya
Been craving assam laksa and that’s what we ordered, in addition to chee cheong fun and hainanese chicken rice. The assam laksa broth was flavorful but only thing was the noodles were a tad bit too firm. Same with the chee cheong fun. Flavour and taste was good just that the cheong fun itself was a little too hard/ firm. Chicken rice was a good portion and fair. Ice kachang was really good. Very authentic and service was good too.

Tried O’Town for the first time last night given the good reviews on Zomato but was a little underwhelmed. We had the curry chee cheong fun - which to be honest wasn’t great as the the curry sauce was very watery like soup rather than a sauce. Also tried the pork Yee meen - it was a little on the bland side and the noodles seemed over cooked/soft, no bite to the noodles. The hainanese chicken rice was ok. Overall, good value for money portion wise and I would come again, but I would try other items on the menu.

Food 3.5. Long queue during peak hours, but 15mins wait..not too bad. Love their Pan mian and their Kueh Jab. I didn't get to take pics b4 I realized we have finished half way. Definately worth to go. I will be back.

Food portion was good and didn’t disappoint but the amount of seafood in the noodles and sweet and sour pork that they gave was lacking. Had only 2 pieces of squid and small chunks of chicken in the noodles while the sweet and sour pork had more veggie than meat in it. Felt kinda cheated but overall good taste and price. Nice place to go to for a decent meal below $10
Willtravelforfood17
I ordered the kway chap and a cold teh tarik and my friend ordered the Hakka noodles. We also ordered lor bak plate to share. The kway chap noodles were smooth and silky and pleasant to eat. There was a lot of pork belly in the dish which was really generous but it also had a lot of fat in it. In fact most of it was fat, which made the dish overly oily. The soup had a nice herbal taste to it. The Hakka noodles were tasty. There was a lot of noodles though but not much of anything else. The lor bak was a little dry but otherwise the flavour was good. The teh tarik was delicious. It was thick and fragrant. The food is very reasonably priced. I would come back.

*Review is for take-away only<br/><br/>We ordered in to have at the office after our usual laksa place was closed. How great that turned out because the laksa was so full of flavour and packed with a generous amount of toppings. I had the white curry mee with seafood which was enough to eat over two serves. There was the perfect amount of spice and tang 👌<br/><br/>The menu looks delish so will definitely trying this place again next time we order from Glenny!

The main reason why I'm giving a low rating is due to the service or lack thereof. The wait staff are very rude, perhaps it's been a long day for them but there should still be a certain standard of professionalism. Food was not fantastic, however what drew us to this establishment is the homemade tofu, which is found almost nowhere else. That was perhaps, the only enjoyable aspect of the meal.

FAST Review: O’Town in Glen Waverley<br/><br/>FOOD - Been searching for authentic Penang food? Miss hearing the Hokkien language? Then O Town is the place for you. Traditional dishes including Kwan Lo (Dry) Wan Tan Mee, Koay Chiap Duck Soup, Teochew Pork Rice, Chee Chong Fun with Traditional Prawn Paste & White Curry Mee help you reminisce the eating memories of home or that scrumptious overseas holiday to Penang Island. Try Malaysian styled western food with rice too. Drinks - Soya bean cincao, packed in a bubble cup is the must. Good price & great taste. - 4.5/5<br/><br/>AMBIENCE - Love the buzz of the atmosphere, like a Malaysian coffee shop but the owners need to fix their faulty front door, which never shuts completely and freezes you with the wild Melbournian wind gust. - 3.5/5 (Minus 0.5 because of that door!)<br/><br/>SERVICE - Staff are always friendly and multilingually fluent in all the essentials in Mandarin, Hokkien, Cantonese and Malaysian. Always meet the same staff, with is handy as they know our personalised favourites. - 4.5/5<br/><br/>TOTAL - A personal favourite that I eat in, take away or order for catering parties. - 12.5/15<br/><br/>TOP TIP: Order the Char Koay Teow requesting it be cooked with thin rice noodles ala Pad Thai style noodles. It’s lighter on the palate and guaranteed additional satisfaction.
The World’s My Oyster
A decent Malaysian feed but probably not the best in Glen Waverley. <br/><br/>I ordered the fish head laksa which was quite nice and hit the craving for laksa. They serve their laksa with only vermicelli and no hokkien noodles... but the serve of vermicelli noodles is ridiculous! SO MUCH NOODLES!!! Biggest serve of noodles I have ever seen and I was already full half way through the big bowl of noodles! The fish head was fried the crunchiest I have ever had in a noodle soup but the quantity of fish head is not as much as Laksa King in Flemington but Flemington is quite a way away. The laksa soup itself was not particularly fragrant or spicy and all the people on the table on the table who tried my laksa agreed it was middle of the road and 3/5.<br/><br/>The Bak Kut Teh has very strong herbal flavour and lots of meat. It was not on the menu but advertised as a special on the window for $18.50. One of the best Bak Kut Teh in Glen Waverley and superior to Grand Tofu in our opinion.<br/><br/>The Char Kuay Teow was just average and lacked the “wok hei” and tastiness at Grand Tofu! The positive was that it included pipis which is traditional in Malaysian Char Kuay Teow and a decent dish.<br/><br/>I may come again for their Mon-Fri lunch time special but I am unlikely to make the special effort to eat here given the fierce competition in Glen Waverley for Malaysian food.

Located slightly 'off the beaten track' from notorious Kingsway and right opposite Glen Waverly train station, O'Town is a Malaysian eatery specialising in cuisine from Penang, an island located north of the country. 3 reasons why this place gets my vote<br/>- Convenience (located right next to a large carpark and plenty of seating);<br/>- An extensive menu of food that you don't find in a generic Malaysian eatery, i.e. teow chew style rice, pan mee in soup, kueh chap, etc.;<br/>- Generous serving to price ratio.<br/><br/>O'town is perfect for solo dining and large groups. That said I have only had their ala carte noodle/rice dishes. Have yet to try their main meals to share.
Curiosity
Good Malaysian at an equally great price. One of the rare few establishments where you can find a plate of noodles for $10. It is conveniently located just outside of the busy Kingsway strip next to abundant parking.<br/><br/>The DRY CHICKEN CURRY NOODLES had a decent portion of meat and the noodles were flavoursome. <br/><br/>The WON TON NOODLES were well cooked and tasty. However the accompanying soup had severely overcooked wontons with the skin floating around in the broth. <br/><br/>I would recommend trying O Town if you haven't already (and picking up a bubble tea from local favourite happy cup after your meal :))

Order anything with kuey teow here. Highlights from the few times I've been here are the char kuey teow and the hor fun. The wok hei is excellent and it's only surpassed by Straits Cafe, with a slightly higher price and smaller quantity. The balance of ingredients is simple but well executed in both dishes. The price is also excellent and doesn't seem to ever change.<br/><br/>The service isn't a focal point but the novelty of the written down ordering system is great and it works. Guess this is why the rating for this shop is not high. <br/><br/>We've also tried the roti dishes and nasi lemak and a couple of other dishes and they were good but not the main draw. Definitely any flat rice noodles for this place.

The laksa is good - very good flavour I wish it have more ingredients...<br/>Roast duck noodles good<br/>I wish O'Town could open another one near to city that would be good
Tania Koh
Good food, prompt customer service. Assam laksa is fragrant and the condiments to go with it is not chunky (like most in Melbourne) but fine and enough to go with every bite. <br/><br/>I applaud the customer service as I initially found a strand of hair in my first bowl, but after voicing my complaint, a new bowl was made and given to me as quick as possible. <br/><br/>Manager/supervisor is very warm and welcoming.

Generous amount of seating and lighting. Tried the Penang kueh chap. Rolled noodles in aromatic soup. Decent besides the seasoning on the top of the chives smelt like the seasoning you'd get from an instant noodle pack and the noodles were all clumped at the bottom. Curry is spicy yet flavoursome. Service is average but a good place to go if you want quick food.

There's quite a few Malaysian eateries in Glen Waverley, O'Town one of the new ones now open for a couple of years. Inside had some Penang-styled art, perhaps a taste of things to come.<br/>Their menu and ordering system is similar to Papparich, jot down the code corrrsponding to the menu item you want to order. I got the Penang Kueh Chap which was a soothing herbal broth paired with slippery rice cakes and pork (which could have been more tender). I really wanted to try their curry fish head noodle but I've been eating too much rich food as of late.<br/>The food is affordable and we managed to grab one of the last tables, we weren't prepared to wait out in the blistering cold for a table anywhere!<br/>

I haven't been to this place yet, but did get a takeout from here. I had the Veggue mee goreng, because that was the only vegetarian option there. It had egg in it though, which is weird. Other than that, it had tofu, and it was spicy!! Their taste palete was good enough. I did enjoy my meal. I would definitely visit this place once to review about their staff and the hospitality. So far, this is a good place if you ever craving for authentic Malaysian cuisine.

Sadly a case of a nice place to start off with but standards had dropped a lot recently. Wasn't happy with my dish as was too salty and the spring rolls were cold...had to get them to reheat. Won't be returning to this place.
Bun's Food Diaries
My sisters and I decided to catch up here last night and were left too disappointed. We both agreed that food was of good quality in the days following the opening of the store but standards have now dropped considerably.<br/>Starting with snack dishes - the satay skewers were dry and bland without the peanut sauce and the spring rolls actually came out cold. While they were lukewarm to touch on the outside, the filling inside was still cold. We told the waitress and she took away the plate and returned with the hot spring rolls so that was good.<br/>The bbq pork dish was too salty, my prawn mee would pass off as average, the chicken served with roti would have been better had it been served warmer.<br/>My sister ordered the roast duck with noodles but the dish she got was rice noodles in clear broth with fish balls, fish cake and some bits of duck. We were convinced this must of been a mixed up of orders but on questioning, the female staff confirmed it was the roast duck dish. What if someone had an allergy to fish? There is no mention of fish in the dish description... I still think she was nodding and saying yes without having understood what we were telling her.<br/>Needless to say, we would not be coming back.<br/>

Authentic Malaysian Hawker food.  Love the Fish Head Noodles and Kway Chap . Lack big round tables to order and share dishes from but a decent place with a good variety of hawker food to choose from
Praneeshan Ilanko
<br/>I ordered roast chicken with noodles.<br/>It was the coldest and driest roast chicken I've had. <br/>When I told them about it they went and microwaved the food and noodles become dry as.<br/>Absolute disgrace.<br/>Overall not an enjoyable experience, would not recommend it.
Sara Lee
great food. good service. environment is cosy.<br/><br/>I have particular absolute favourites there which I always go back to order for both dine in and takeaway.
Foodie Panda
had the maggie mee goreng during peak hour. flavour wise, it was really good but it was not as dry as an authentic mee goreng. overall, it was a generous portion and really worth the money!

Have been here numerous times. Had dine in and take aways. Was satisfied most of the time. But have the most pathetic Hainanese Chicken rice take away today. ? cut cost!
Dee Dee
My partner ordered the fish ball noodle with mince meat with flat rice noodle and really enjoyed the flavourful clear soup. I ordered the wan tan noodle which is decent but I thought the sauce is too sweet for my liking. That might be just my preference though. Noodle has nice texture and the accompanying soup taste good. I ordered the Penang lobak as well and was pleasantly surprise that it taste so good.
Omelette
Nasi Lemak • Hokkien Fried Noodle • Hot Soya Bean • Hot Cham <br/>To be honest, I still prefer Paparich when it comes to Malaysian Food. Ingredients used at Paparich are much fresher (e.g. prawns) and overall less oily. Soya Bean drink was a bit bitter but the Cham was ok. The only competitive advantage is the price.
The Whippeteers
3x Whippeteers were fairly IMPRESSED with O'town last Saturday.   What town is O'town?  OLD Town, that's what. <br/><br/>So, how was the FOOD?  Well, this Whip ordered the Tom Yum soup.  The other two ordered Char kway teow and a curry soup,  Well, it turns out we all kinda swapped, and ate each others meals!  All were enjoyed immensely.  The stir fried dish had a lovely smokey WOK FLAVOR.  The soups were spot on.<br/><br/>Service:  PROMPT,  ATTENTIVE, POLITE.<br/><br/>Ps this is a CHEAP EATS place.  Please don't come here expecting  LAVISH service etc LOL

With so many choices in Glen Waverley, it's difficult to make my way past all the other joints to get here, but I'm glad I did for the second time. <br/><br/>I like the easy way of ordering, like is done at Papa Rich too. I really don't know why more places don't adopt this system because you get time to look at the menu without a wait staff hovering over you. When you are ready, press the button and they are right there. They take the ticket and there's no mix ups, mistakes, or confusion because it's all written down. <br/><br/>So simple. <br/><br/>I'm no expert in Malaysian cuisine, but I've been to Malaysia a few times. My thoughts on my 2 visits are that the food is not as close as it could be to a Malaysian Hawker stall, but for Melbourne it's well priced with adequate serve sizes and just MAYBE, you might want to actually go to KL to taste what you are missing out on here. For Melbourne, it's fine and it's better than Papa Rich in general although less showy.<br/><br/>I'll be back.
Louis
Cold food, cold service. Come here for some subpar food if you're starving. Would not recommend. As a native of the cuisine, I am ashamed at the blandness of everything. Even the soup is bland and that's the easiest to make.
MCS-F55
Decided to come here as I was craving chew Cheong fun. Can't say it's anywhere near as good as the ones I had in KL but still, it's not bad. Fried kuey tiaw is one of the better ones we've tried in Melbourne. Egg noodle on the other hand is pretty average and the texture is slightly on the mushy side. Will definitely come back again to try their laksa, Nasi Lemak and other dishes.

Are you kidding me? If this place is only worth 3.2 then either I am Donald Duck or I went to a different place. Either way it shows how far we have come in this country from meat and two vegs. Sure, maybe the place is patchy in quality (having been only once I could not say) and--given the demographic of Glen Waverley--the standard is very high, but I use the following criteria: 1) nice food for the price. We paid $60 for five people (including a ravenous 15-year old boy) and we went away full with three doggy bags that we could not finish--making effectively, a second meal. Look at the photos and tell me it doesn't look good. It certainly was, and my company consisted of Malaysians--and they have standards. We are used to Flemington's fabled Laksa King (for which one has to wait outside in a queue, made to sit with someone else, and hurried out the door), and I reckon the curry Laksa was easily up to that standard. $10 a dish? You could not buy the ingredients and make it at home for that. 2) Good service. This food all arrived within 5-10 minutes. 3) Ambience. It's a Hawker place so one expects a big of noise. It was clean and comfortable. I'd recommend it for a quick eat for sure. Make sure you have the Malaysian coffee: it is so syrupy with condensed milk that the spoon almost stands up in it.  It does not get five stars from me because I only got three prawns in the Laksa. Unforgivable: 5-7 is mandatory. Other than that, a terrific new find.

Came here more than once and also did takeaway. One visit is insufficient to do justice since the menu selection is relatively large so I held on my review until I have tried a sample of some dishes that shouldn't go wrong for Malaysian eatery.<br/><br/>First impression is that it's a Papparich style restaurant, self order on paper, ring the bell for attention, colourful menu with lots of pictures and on the pricey side.<br/><br/>Now more importantly the taste. First experience:We had the roast duck/bbq pork on rice, "ban mee" and Penang cheecheongfun. Food arrived promptly within 10 minutes. Penang cheecheongfun was exactly as described and reminded me ofwhat I used to buy from the breakfast stalls in Malaysia. Roast duck was slightly on the plain side. Ban mee hit the ace with me as it was exactly what I expected, down to the generous anchovy and fried onion. A taste I haven't tasted for a long time. Lastly, portion is satisfactory against the pricing.<br/><br/>Really liked first tasting experience. Have been back to try the roti canal and fish head vercemili, they were reasonably well presented in taste and portion. Can't complain.<br/><br/> I still recommend this place as the go to ban mee. Way to go, hope it maintains its quality!

This is a great place for lunch there is a wide range of dishes some not on most restaurants menus. I have tried a lot of noodle dishes N32 char kuey teow  is my favorite, chicken white curry is very nice.<br/>The only problem is the noise at the evening meals otherwise service is good and food is good

Been here a few times and always had the curry laksa noodles with sambal (extra chilli sauce to mix into the broth). Portion is generous although just like any other Asian restaurant, more carbs on the plate as compared to protein. Service is efficient - write which item you want on the ordering pad and ring the table bell for service. Had the duck rice and pan mee, both tasty and satisfied my cravings:)<br/> <br/><br/>Update - revisited this place in November and was pleasantly surprised to know that they have started to serve roast meat with a choice of noodles/rice. Not bad for a close by location. Stir fried veggies were a little overcooked and salty, in my opinion.

We've had dinner here a number of times. It's always been hit and miss. Our last meal was pretty good. The char kuey teow had that unmistakable scent of a hot wok and everything hit the spot. We also had the Penang white curry laksa which was good. Tonight's char kuey teow was too sweet with chives that was old and chewy. The nasi lemak was also disappointing. The prawn sambal was an absolute miss. Prawns were frozen and had no taste. Sambal was watery. The chicken curry was good but I wanted nasi lemak not chicken curry rice. Very disappointing.
Snoopy
Very busy Chinese restaurant, located right opposite to the train station.<br/><br/>The hokkien dry noodle, like the taste of the dry soy sauce, a little salty to my preference, like the mix flavour with small anchovies and mince meats, and also fried shallot. Noodle texture was good, not too soft / hard. Personally thought the noodle was quite big portion. Fish ball was bouncy and good biting texture.<br/><br/>Braised pork with egg, the pork was quite fatty, flavour was okay, like the chilli sauce.<br/><br/>Overall generous and good value meal, worth to go again to try other dishes.
Khpn
Your run of the mill malaysian restaurant, however there were a few select dishes on the menu which are not usually found at others. We ordered the Kon Loh rice drop noodles, the claypot noodle soup, Penang chee cheong fun and the lobak. The food was nice however there was nothing outstanding about them. Service was good. Would probably not come back as there are better Malaysian joints in the area.
Facebook User
pretty happy with both the nasi goreng and curry chicken noodles<br/>service not too bad, place is cramped but can't expect much
Josephine
They accommodated 12 of us which can be quite troublesome for some restaurants. However, I was very pleased with how quickly everything came out. We ordered 3 servings of each entrees - chicken wings, satay skewers & calamari. All very delicious! We ordered so many mains, I lost count of what we ordered. Everything was splendid. The only negative was we had to wait a fair bit for the roti as they made it individually and we ordered 6. By the time the curry came out, our roti got cold and hard. Other than that, was pleasantly surprised with everything.
Panda
Penang rojak, wan tan dry noodle with roast BBQ pork, Penang white curry laksa. Ice kacang.. It's passable quality.... Hubby was fine with their noodle but I'm a bit more fussy. Would I drive 30mins again to this destination .. Maybe not. Hubby disagreed. Time to try out another outlet.. Hmm undecided. Hubby wants to try their Hokkien noodle!!

For: <br/>The rice dishes keep me returning. Highly recommended Teo Chew Pork / Duck on Rice. Satay Tofu in Entree also worth trying.<br/><br/>Against:<br/>The drink standard for a Malaysia restaurant is not up to the scratch yet. Price is a little high. The taste changes every time eg. from crazily sweet to no taste.
JackieTan
Food has gone downhill. Lots of MSG and salt. Staff both kitchen and service staff have zero care factor for diners, chatting behind the drink counters and laughing, hence, mediocre food & service. Only looks like a decent restaurant when owners are around.<br/><br/>So sad to see when it was good before that it has now come to this situation.<br/><br/>Won't return.
Nancy Pollock
3rd time at this outlet, we ordered Pork rib noodles and Mee Rebus<br/>for 2 persons. Looked sloppy,  noodles covered in tons of sauce , nil<br/>presentation , taste salty and  MSG ala plenty as well.<br/>Not go back again , cannot compare with other restauarants in that area.<br/>The problem is it attracts ppl that are on the go who will go there because they cant tell difference.<br/>Step up , chefs.

This place is my go to when I'm in the Glenny area and feel like cheap, decent Malaysian food. I prefer O Town to Paparich because I don't have to line up, the portions are larger, prices are lower and food is better. In particular I like their white curry - it's a laksa-like soup with perfectly cooked chicken breast in a sweet soy sauce. The prawn mee is quite sweet but has a strong prawn flavor which I love.
MF
First time i tried kueh chap and it was actually quite nice, but i prefer something else like maybe fried spring roll with it, because if not it was only carbo inside, a bit boring.<br/>Their curry noodle was okay, but i didn't like their teo chew pork and duck rice, it was covered with brown colored sticky sauce which i didn't like the taste.
Judy Kanagaratnam
Ordered Sweet & Pour pork, Beef in Black Bean Sauce and Asam Prawns with Calamri. <br/><br/>I've dined thrice here before which has all been fabulous experience, but this would be the last time I dine or recommend this restaurant to anyone.<br/><br/>The Beef in Black Bean Sauce was burnt and bitter, The Assam Prawn were watery and tasteless and the Sweet and Sour Pork had a whole load of inedible pieces in it. <br/><br/>Either they have replaced the chef or the restaurant had lost its plot! Either way, never ever again!
Stevotango
There's so many options to choice from the menu rice to noodle with affordable price tag. Love the curry chicken serving with the nasi lemak and the char keoy teow is very flavourful! Will definitely be going back!
MissionBake
I love this place. We always eat here when we are in the area. We've tried a variety but some dishes that I always order are the sambal long beans with eggplant and their teochew style pork and duck combi. It is always packed but service is still prompt.

authentic Malaysian food ... we tried the pork rib noodles, prawn noodles and koay teow soup ... dessert was cendol ... all was good ... wait staff was attentive and efficient

Came here for a quick feed the other night and the food was sadly a bit of a hit and miss. Hear me out. <br/><br/>I think when it comes to the classic favourites such as mee goreng the food is good. It's tasty, the portions are generous and the service is fast and efficient. <br/>But when it comes to the stranger things on the menu, things that not many people would order that often such as the Penang Popiah. Popiah is a soggy crepe like dish encasing in this case, shredded radish, fried egg and sweet and sour sauce. It was not good at all. I tried one piece and ended up only eating the crepe and egg, while leaving the remaining soggy mess behind.<br/><br/>For dessert we ordered cendol, a traditional dessert that was served with syrup, shaved ice and sweet red bean underneath. The dessert was nice mainly from the red bean, but the overwhelming amount of ice froze the cendol and it was difficult to eat. The dessert was a bit overkill and compared to the Vietnamese che ba mau (3 coloured dessert drink), I much prefer the Vietnamese dessert drink any time.<br/><br/>Overall, the noodles were great and Le Boy reckons their other stir fried dishes are good too, which I don't doubt they are. But beware of the other less ordered items on the menu.
David Gunn
Honestly, their Nasi Lemak is actually so good - I'm very impressed.<br/>Furthermore, when I first started going there the Teh Tarik was not very good, it was always very very bitter and didn't taste at all like it did back in Malaysia, so one day when I was in there I actually met the boss and gave him some constructive criticism (of course after complimenting the food!) and he thanked me, and what do you know, the next time I went in there and had Teh Tarik it was perfectly done!<br/><br/>Point is, the food is good, service is good, and the owner is kind and takes on feedback!<br/><br/>Only bad point is their door...

Cuisine is authentic and the service is great. Food arrived about 10 minutes after ordering. Reasonable pricing, good food and enjoyable atmosphere makes this worth going to.

Authentic Malaysian cuisine with hawker's flavour. <br/><br/>Ordered the Bbq pork dried noodles with dumplings (this is really yummy), Fried mee (msg was a bit too much but overall taste ok) & steamed flour rolls with fish balls & curry soup. <br/><br/><br/>Very interesting menu with varieties of Penang food which you don't see often in other Malaysian franchise restaurants. <br/><br/>This is a very satisfying meal and will definitely come back again.<br/><br/>Total $29 <br/><br/>

Went here with the family and even with a booking, we still had to wait for a table, with another group of people and the entrance was very small so it was very squishy and awkward. <br/><br/>The ordering system is based on writing down the number of the item from menu on a docket with the table number and then pressing a buzzer. I understand this is for a more efficient service however even after the pressing the buzzer numerous times throughout the dinner, it was hard to get waiters to come over to order extra drinks etc.<br/><br/>The food was hit and miss, the curries were yum however the standout dish was the hainanese chicken rice which was the best. We were not happy with the combination noodles as the mixed meats were overcooked and extremely chewy, the spring rolls were very standard.

A pretty straight-forward service; the same concept as PappaRich with pen-paper-buzzer order.<br/>Real lemon, hot tea served was a nice treat. <br/>However, the pork yee mee - was bland, which was disappointing. <br/>But the dry noodles with chicken curry had aroma and taste, though nothing beyond average.<br/>Not sure if I'll try more items here.

Very impressive on our first visit with the quantity and taste of the Malaysian fare on offer. Being Malaysian makes you slightly more demanding of the traditional favourites such as curry laksa, har mee and assam laksa. But subsequent visits have revealed deteriorating quantity and quality of the food, so still undecided on whether we'll be returning or not

Big portions, reasonably priced. I usually go for the hainanese chicken rice as its probably the best value for money in the range of Glen Waverley. The char kuay teow is also good, with crispy pork fat bits throughout the whole dish. Yummy, cheap lunch option

Not the most authentic, wholesome place around, but they keep me coming back with their tasty dishes, huge menu, very generous portions, and the odd authentic aspect to many of their dishes that can, for an instant, make me forget I'm eating in Australia. I enjoy their cheong fun, white curry mee (which surprisingly tastes a lot like singapore katong laksa), fishball hor fun soup and kueh chap. The kon loh mee is ok but very oily. Before going, my expectations were quite low, but I have been pleasantly surprised several times. Glad they're in the Kingsway area anyway.

The Pork Ribs Yee Mee ($12.5) arrived at our table looking and smelling quite delicious. Despite being cooked with visible cubes of lard, the noodles were actually a bit on the bland side – however this was made up for by the pork ribs with a satisfying flavour hit each time we gently pulled the meat from the bone. Overall, it was quite a nice dish to tuck into away from the cold winter weather outside.

After finally selecting what we wanted, you have to write down you order on the supplied sheet and press the button so they come by and collect it (guess they’re trying to phase out customer service…how sad…). My kopi'C came out and it on the description it said it was evaporated milk coffee (not really sure what that meant but WHO CARES). Very sweet and delish. LOVE IT!!!<br/>We got a sharing dish, the penang chee cheong fun which was the traditional rice noodle rolls served with shrimp paste, chilli sauce and sweet sauce. This was a dish I’ve never had before…and I don’t think I’ll get it again. There was an after taste which I didn’t enjoy but luckily there were other people on the table that enjoyed it….

O Town.......O No!. This used to be my favourite Malaysian restaurant to visit. Great food and fantastic value for money.<br/>Unfortunately they have introduced a new menu and you know what they say....."new" does not always mean "better"<br/>The prices have been increased for almost all dishes<br/>We ordered 2 noodle dishes and were moderately stunned by the size of the servings, which were definitely smaller than previously. So essentially we were paying more for less<br/>The service was reasonable <br/>I hate good byes but it looks like it's "bye bye O Town"

Mixed feelings. I would say that O'Town is another place of Hit's and Misses' at Glen Waverley. When you've taken the gamble and order something random on the menu, it might turn out to be good or bad. Examples of good dishes that i've tried are the kueh chap and hainanese chicken rice. They are savoury and generously portioned as well as decently priced. Dishes that require heaps of improvement- curry laksa (fish filets were still frozen! ), hor fun (definitely not as good as Straits Cafe at Wantirna as it was runny and lack of ingredients) and cheongfun (overwhelming in taste, unbalanced seasoning). Service is relatively average, expect to wave down staff constantly when it's busy. An occasional visit would be fine but maybe not that often.

Not authentic Penang food.. The food was awful. The menu with the photo of the dish we ordered did not look anything like it and we tried to explain to the waiter, he was so defensive!!!<br/>The rest of the dishes were no better! Will not return for sure!!!!

Nice Malaysian Hawker style food, traditional, tasty. About Time. Love this place, tasty food, traditional Malaysian dishes, and finally a great Sambal.<br/>Service was Good, on our first time there we didn't really understand the system and we had no problem with Customer service and their enthusiasm to help was great.<br/>There Sambal dishes and curry dishes so far are great. Can't wait to try other items on their menu.<br/>I will definitely be going there again.

Customer service was crap, food was too sickly sweet

Good Penang White Curry Mee. As we know Penang White Curry Mee has exploded from its fame after people were seen buying the instant noodles packets. However the hype has sort of died down. I decided to try the proper non-MSG, non instant Penang White Curry Mee at this joint. Surprisingly quite nice to my liking, pipis, prawns, cuttlefish were in the bowl costing $9.50 (below $10.00) which is reasonable.<br/><br/>I've also ordered the Milk Tea (iced) with less ice- and indeed they gave me only 4 cubes of ice. Good service.<br/>I have to say 10X times better than Pappa Rich restaurants. The inside interior of the restaurant has the famous Penang street art murals. I have yet to try its Char Koay Teow and other dishes. Will definitely come back!

Better food than its competitor PappaRich. The noodles were admittedly cooked much better than over at PappaRich, where it seemed to be cold/microwaved. More flavoursome, overall. However, they were very much understaffed today (Thursday lunch), with one waiter for many tables, leading to slow service. Food is good though, worth the price around $10 a dish.

Authentic Penang food... Great Assam laksa and hainnese chicken with hor fun. Smiley staff and quick service. Good place if you're craving Malaysian food.

Takes time to understand the system. A companion and I walked into the lively O'Town and sat down at one of the few empty tables. The menu was on the table.<br/><br/>A wide variety of dishes at competitive prices. <br/><br/>Staff were rushing around the busy establishment but no one came near us. We had to ask for water. It became quite clear that few of the staff spoke English. <br/><br/>We waited. And waited. And waited. <br/><br/>What was wrong?<br/><br/>Aha! There was what looked like a "ticket" with the condiments. Sure enough it was the means by which customers write down their order. Each dish has a code that you write on the "ticket". Once the "ticket" was handed in the meal came quickly.<br/><br/>It was very enjoyable. <br/><br/>When you've finished you walk to the cashier (near the entrance) and quote your table number. The cashier understood our table number and told us the (very reasonable) amount of the bill.<br/><br/>Cash only.<br/><br/>O'Town is conveniently located on the northern side of the railway station. Parking can be an issue and City of Monash parking inspectors are very active in the area. O'Town is only one minute from the railway station and across the road from the bus terminal.<br/><br/>A very good place to visit. It does take a little time to understand their "system" but once you've mastered that you won't be disappointed.

Poor customer service. I am extremely disappointed with the manager and staff members there with lack of professional customer service!!! <br/><br/>Booked a table a month ago and when we arrived they could said that my reservation has been given to other ppl. Don't they check on contact numbers of the time of booking and the number of ppl??? Got to wait for 10 minutes for the manager to reorganize a table for us!!!<br/><br/>Asked for water and clean plates and a girl with the super long hair with no name tag, she just threw things on the table with a loud bang noise! If u r not interested to serve your customer with a long face, please go home!!! By today first time experience of dining at old town, I will never go back there again! If u want to have more customer, it's always word of mouth!! This is not the way you handle a business and way of ordering it's exactly like papa rich!!

Allow me to introduce the new kids on the Glen Waverley block, O'Town. I stumbled upon this place by mistake and although it was not an intentional visit, it did develop into a persisting thought that finally lured me into the premises. A Malaysian can never be bored of the sights and scents of anything that is reminiscence of home which is what you get here. After a quick scan at the menu, the bunch of us managed to narrow down our choices and pick a few dishes to share around. Char kuey teow ~ not too bad although a tad more heat from the wok would do wonders. Curry noodles ~ A very big bowl filled with oodles of noodles and topped with the usual accompaniments. The staff were considerate enough to plonk a small dollop of chilli paste on a spoon to which, diners can mix in whatever amount of paste they desire into the stock. Very flavourful and had a good amount of spiciness for my liking. Did struggle a bit to finish it off in the end! Sambal kangkung ~ On a separate day, we decided to be adventurous and headed out to Springvale aka the Vietnamese town of Melbourne. Most shops close at around 8pm so be sure to get in quick. And remember to bring some cash just in case! Longan and three colour bean sweet ~ Both drinks just as good as the ones we get from Adelaide:) Pho topped with beansprouts and a few sprigs of mint leaves ~ the stock was lighter in terms of flavour compared to the ones I get from Adelaide. Would have liked to have fresh noodles in the soup but can't complain much when a decent sized bowl only costs about $9?

O’Town’s decor is very reminiscent of the streets of Penang, with its British influence and Penang’s famous street art replicated on the walls. O’Town’s Hakka Kon Loh is served with fishball soup and taste wise it was oddly familiar, like a drier Pan Mee because of the mushrooms and crunchy anchovies. It’s subtle in flavour as I did require some sliced chilli to go with it but I was happy with the flavours nonetheless.
