Review Omi - Glen Waverley

Traveling The World
Great little place for some udon noodle soup. Food was great and the service was great as well.
Cecilia Wong
Overall good experience. The food comes out looking very much like the pictures. Truffle fries were nice and truffley. We had salted egg soft shell crab udon noodles. Crab was nicely done and salted egg sauce was good. Soup a tad on the sweet side. Also had teriyaki chicken rice. Chicken was tasty but also too sweet and rice was a bit underdone and mushy. Probably would still go back there another time.

Nic solace that serves good karaage chicken. We had the salter egg karage chicken which was pretty good and was served with udon noodles. The place has ample seating in the common areas that are near this outlet on the same floor. The place does get crazy busy and then the service gets affected but it isn’t that bad. The food is always a served hot and that’s what matters when you want a quick lunch.

Extremely disappointed experience at OMI The Glen. We had our first OMI experience at Chadstone and thought it would be the same. End up the quality at The Glen is totally disappointed, it is more like a fast food/take away standard compare to like a restaurant standard but charging at the same price. Smaller portion using plastic bowl, less quantity, ordered wagyu but taste like normal beef, overcooked etc.. wouldn’t come back again. Will go back to Chadstone OMI as that’s the best!
Mark Yee
Bloody good stuff to be had here. Everything taste good with salted egg on top. Affordable price with a well sized serving. And with everywhere else charging you extra for additional sauce, OMI doesn't.
Stephanie Lo
Very yummy black truffle source!! The soup with udon is good. Love it. The pork scotch is good. Quantity not very large but enough for asian.
Howard Christopher
Good value for money. Quick fix for craving. Wouldn't order their fries again next time though. A little soggy after delivery.
Nat Cardenas
Worth the wait, very tasty and filling!!! Although it was a bit hard to find and the line to order our food was long, plus the preparation time, it was worth waiting. Beautifully presented, both the karage and wagyu were delicious. The fries were extra crunchy and to top it we had a green tea cream brulee, the green tea flavour wasn't too strong so people that don't like matcha or green tea flavours should try it.

i tried omi at chadstone and loved it so i thought it would be nice to give their new store at glen waverley a try too! it’s quite pricey for the serving size and when you see that most of the bowl is filled with rice, it’s debatable whether it’s worth it. the seasonings and onsen egg are always good but i think i would go to dumpling empire or waya next time.

Rate: 4.0/5
☆彡 Had lunch here - reminds me of Calia but more affordable and in food court - which has lots of (neat/clean) seating in the Glen. Ordered: aburi salmon rice bowl, with teriyaki sauce ($16.9) and soft-shell crab rice bowl ($16.9) and salted egg fries

☆ The good:
- i actually loved the salted egg fries, the salted egg flavour was relatively strong and a really good twist to regular fries. Generous in quantity
- aburi salmon was tasty as expected; soft shell crab was massive and tasty
- service is quick and efficient

☆ Not so good:
- as with some rice bowls, after finishing salmon/crab you are left with a huge portion of rice :(

☆彡 Overall, am definitely returning to the more affordable yet quality Jap food :) it does not even feel like we are in a food court

OMI is a new addition in The Glen that is absolutely worth trying. OMI offers different types of bowls ranging from their famous Wagyu beef, soft shell crab and even more. They offer a lot of different sauces and their salted egg sauce is a definite must try. The portion of Wagyu in the Ultimate Wagyu bowl was lacking value for the price vs amount of meat. Despite this, the soft shell crab bowl was extremely good value.
Their crêpe cakes of the day however are absolutely divine and a great way to finish the meal.
Foodforthebrokensoul
The signature wagyu beef was tender and delicious. Nice combination of sweet, salty, umami. The salmon with mentaiko was a bit fishy. The eggs were perfectly cooked, and loved the pickles. The portions were on the small side for the price compared to some other Japanese places I've been to.

I'm loving these OMI rice bowls. We loved the wagyu one more than the teriyaki chicken (only because we don't like too much marinade or sauce). The wagyu was very tender. You can also choose from their array of topping sauces - we chose wasabi mayo and spicy mayo. They also have udon noodle soup options so I'll be back to try those and their salted egg and black truffle sauce! Tip: ask to have the sauces on the side as it can be overbearing.

OMI is inside the glen in the food court area. It's an open area and you can actually see them preparing your meal. I got the teriyaki salmon and my husband got the curry karrage chicken. We also got spicy mayo fries. Everything was delicious and great flavours. Definitely recommend for a quick meal.

We came here as a party of three to check out the renovated The Glen (better later than never right?!). My friend recommended the salmon with salted egg which was on their displayed special. I have to say it was okish, wasn’t a fan of the runny egg but my friend showed me how to eat it ‘properly’ by mixing it all together which surprisingly wasn’t so bad. We also had the truffle fries which was ok, but nothing really to write home about. Can see why people line up for this place but I have to try their other dishes before I can give them five stars. Probably will be back but won’t be my first option.

I used to love OMI and didn’t mind the long queue although I still don’t get why they only have 1 cash register which made the service to be super slow!love the salted eggs karaage chicken and fish tempura however this caused me to have bad diarrhea like almost straight away, must be from the salted eggs sauce which might’ve gone bad. So beware of this!
We were so excited to be invited to OMI since we have been eyeing on this place for quite awhile. OMI Glen Waverley is located in the food court in the ground floor and it is so easy to find as you enter the food court area – just find the OMI light signage. OMI is well known for its simple on-rice dish with various proteins to choose from their speciality Wagyu Beef, Soft Shell Crab, Kaarage Chicken, Fish to vegetarian one that you can paired with lots of sauces that will confuse you because they are all delicious.
Yay: Wagyu Beef with black truffle, Salted Egg Crab, Matcha Layer Cakes
Nay: Truffle Fries was a tad too salty

OMG OMI 🤤

PROS
Great vibe, exciting menu with rice bowls and soups and a healthy variety of snacks. Tried the salted egg fries, don bowl with tempura fish with mentaiko sauce option, udon in soup with a soft egg and a side of grilled salmon with the optioned teriyaki sauce. Multiple sauce options for the dishes, you can customise your order (including veg optioned udon soup) and great service. Loved it!

CONS
Busy area, grab a good table first (in all fairness, was there during a peak period)

FYI
it's located on the ground floor food court area. So everyone can order from different restaurants 😁😁

Wow, how impressive is the new food court at The Glen?? Even among so many high quality vendors Omi stands out with their signature hand torched dishes that you can watch from behind the glass counter.

We came to try some of their new winter sauces and were blown away by how delicious everything was! We tried the wagyu don (large) with black pepper sauce, chicken karaage with wasabi mayo, fries with spicy mayo, yuzu creme brûlée and green tea crepe cake. The wagyu with soft boiled egg was amazing and really good value for the quality and size, I would definitely get this again! The black pepper sauce really packed a punch and was very heavy on the pepper which I liked, but could be overpowering for some. The karaage was perfectly crunchy and the wasabi mayo was probably my favourite sauce overall. Both desserts were amazing and I was pleasantly surprised when the brûlée had a clear and crisp ‘crack’. Loved that the crepe cake came with sauce and it was so lovely and light in texture.

Definitely recommend Omi for an A+ foodcourt dining experience!
Vivian
We came to Omi to try their new sauce menu and absolutely loved it !
The curry sauce was extremely flavoursome and we loved it with the udon noodles soup!
The truffle sauce ( not new) paired with the pork ( new) was a winner - so much flavour with extremely tender pork
Of course we had to get the salted egg fries- one of the best salted egg fries in Melbourne !

For a food court meal Omi has never failed to impress

Thanks for having us

Absolutely fantastic! I’ve seen this place a few times but I’ve never thought to try it until now. It’s a lovely venue and boy does it smell amazing! The fried chicken with wasabi sauce was sooo delicious on the rice. The Wagyu with pepper tasted amazing! I can’t even describe it. We also had the fries with their mayo and they were good! I’d like to try the truffle next time. Then omg, you need to get the matcha layer cake, freaking hell, it was incredible! And the creme brûlée was sooo tasty! Would recommend you check this place out!

Such a long line and Why am I not surprised? OMI is OMG amazing! There menu for starters is so hard to pick from because there are so many delicious options. Every thing comes in a bowl. Great sauces and great flavours! I can't wait to go back... **Disclaimer: although the restaurant has generously invited me to their restaurant this review is still based on my genuine opinion.
Whenfoodiesmeet
OMI this is so yummy 😍. We had the Wagyu beef bowl, it was full of flavour and the beef was cooked via blow torch 🔥. Great snack or meal and located at various stores across Melbourne

We loved out experience today at OMI!

OMI are known to serve premium Japanese-fusion rice bowls and they have just released a new range of sauces including the Wasabi Mayo, Sambal and Black Pepper. We ordered the Teriyaki Chicken, Salmon Udon, Karaage Chicken, Signature Wagyu Beef and the Salted Egg Fries. The food was absolutely delicious! We especially loved the Karaage Chicken and Wasabi Mayo combo.

The customer service was also good. The woman who served us was extremely helpful and recommend the dishes for us which we greatly appreciated. Definitely one of the better choices in the Glen so definitely check it out!
Alicia
Okay, the food was really good here. The Wagyu beef was cooked so well and was nice and soft. The salmon was good too. The only thing I didn’t love was how sweet the soft shell crab was, but still great.
The food is quite affordable and I’ll definitely be back to try more.
My other complaint would be that the dining experience would be much better if OMI had its own dining area. It was just a bit more annoying and hectic when it’s in the food court.

Edit: came back again and had the udon and that was even better than the rice.
HungrySquirrel
Had the salted egg karaage chicken with rice. It was a very forgettable experience. I felt that the different components in the bowl did not work particularly well together (I am aware this is fusion so not authentic Japanese). Quite overpriced given the serving and quality of the ingredients. Felt thirsty after the meal. Wouldn't go back as there are better places elsewhere.
Tedson
This shop is one of the most popular one in the shopping centre but I doubt if their Wagyu is genuine. I had signature Wagyu beef here and found it was tasteless.

- Food (4.5/5)
- Service (4/5)
- Ambiance (3.5/5)

Have visited both the Chadstone and The Glen locations a few times and overall the The Glen locations seems to be the stand out despite being a food court outlet. The stand out is the Salted Egg Karaage Chicken.

Ever since hearing a friend rave about his experience at Omi, coupled with such high ratings, we figured it was worth giving it a shot.

Without much contemplation, we decided on the Truffle Wagyu, Mentaiko Wagyu and a bowl of Salted Egg Fries to share.

If I ever had to write a thesis on “The “Sweetest” Meal Ever”, rest assured that the two wagyu dishes will get a well-deserved mention.

The sauce that coated the beef was so numbingly sweet that it punched the living flavours out of the beef, and mentaiko & truffle sauce that was served atop! Every mouthful was just sweetness upon sweetness that it got so sickly midway and eating turned into a chore. Why bother putting premium ingredients in if you don’t let them shine?

The much talked about Salted Egg Fries was disappointing to the palate as we were expecting a much relieved savoury burst of flavour as per name, yet it was oddly on the sweeter side. It didn’t help matters when the “dressing” was only drizzled on top, so basically it was just ordinary fries after that thin layer.

That was the last straw for us, as we left behind what we couldn’t stomach anymore and went elsewhere within the same complex for a more satisfying lunch, bringing along my cold hōjicha which was thankfully the only unsweetened order of the day.

If “sweet dreams are made of these, I’d be one to disagree”.
HildaLuv2Eat
A bit overrated? The price is slightly high as it is just one of the stalls in the food court... I tried their signature waygu beef don, fried chicken salted egg sauce with udon and truffle fries! The beef don was pretty good - the japanese poached egg gives a tasty moisture to the rice and the sweet beef sauce makes it very appetizing. The truffle fries and fried chicken were definitely over fried! The fries became cracker and a little bit oily, the chicken was quite dry...i would say the food is average only.
Tessa
The food served is quite theatrical with the blow torched meat. I had the wagyu beef and it was delicious. The soft poached egg was a good pairing. A little on the pricy side but is of high quality
Connie
I had the Singaporean chilli crab which was quite delicious and flavourful however after having it I was super thirsty (not sure what they added) - my friend who had the salmon was also super dehydrated afterwards. As the serving size was quite big, I asked for a takeaway bowl- and it cost $0.50, seems a bit unreasonable to be honest 😡
Pineapple San
I always enjoy dining at Omi. The quality is definitely top notch and it is obvious that care is gone to preparing all the food. I love the wagyu which is super tender and flavoursome. The chicken dishes and creme brulee are also worth a try! I reckon the wait time is a little longer than normal food court food but it is worth it!
However, it seems to me as if the serving size has been diminishing over the last few times I have visited. Portions of meat is still good, however there seems to be less rice nowadays which is disappointing. Hope they pick up their game because it is expensive!
Pyro
Ordered the Singapore Chilli Crab (Soft Shell), Sambal Karaage Chicken and Truffle Fries. The Singapore Chilli Crab consisted of tempura soft shell crab, poached egg, edamame beans, pickled ginger and rice with a beautiful seasoning. The dish as a whole was superb, the crab was cooked perfectly, nice and crispy, the rice wasn't bland and was delicious and the edamame beans were fresh. The sambal karaage was very juicy and tender with the same elements as the soft shell crab dish. Both dishes were superb and very delicious. The truffle fries were very unique which consisted of sprinkled truffle and green tea sea salt. Overall this place and service was great.

I love Wagyu!! And this place is all about Wagyu! It's a bit more expensive than a regular bowl of Don but it's totally worth it! I would always go with the signature Wagyu and their new udon menu are silky smooth and tasty! Also, don't forget to try their salted karage and also truffle fries!
Kylie
Decent Japanese food served here. We ordered the signature Wagyu beef, the Singapore soft shell crab and truffle fries. The portion of the fries was much more than I was expecting, almost as big as the two rice dishes. With the two rice dishes, they included soft boiled eggs, edamame, and red radish. The eggs were perfectly cooked. It's also well seasoned and sauced. They don't use real truffle for the string fries and they serve it with parmesan, but I loved them. Wouldn't mind trying other dishes from here, particularly the salmon.

Edit: came back again and this time I tried the udon with soft shell crab and sriracha mayo sauce, as well as the soft shell crab rice bowl. Both were great, and I particularly liked how they separated the crab from the udon so it wouldn't get soggy. We also got truffle fries, which is the main reason I keep coming back, absolutely love the fries!

Although Omi is in food court and listed as a fast food restaurant, it’s food is far above food court standard. Some of the most popular dishes are truffle wagyu rice and salted egg fries. Truffle sauce goes unbelievable well with beef and pickles on the side. Salted egg fries are tasty, yet is dry enough for people to drink a whole bootle of water to finish the fries. Also the taste will become boring after you ate half of them, specially when you left it cold.
KN J
Enjoyed the signature wagyu dish and truffle fries. Wagyu wasn't drenched in sauce and egg was warm. It was a better experience here than what I've had at other sites.

A unique Japanese restaurant located in Glen Waverley. I really enjoyed the salmon, it was really flavoursome and well cooked. The wagyu was average but still enjoyable. They’re both decently price and the food didn’t take too long to come out. Really good place for a quick lunch.
SAM TEOH
Had the Salted Egg Salmon & Signature Wagyu rice bowl. To me this has been a little overhyped. Salted egg salmon should have been salty but for some reason it was sweet?! Also, did not really have the taste of the salted egg, the salmon had overpowered it. Whilst the signature wagyu was significantly better than the salmon it was still a little to sweet.

tldr: everything was pretty sweet
Slightly disappointed with my experience here.
Sunny Days Melbourne
Omi is becoming one of my favourite places to eat. It's obvious that they take a lot of care in preparing their dishes. Not only do they look amazingly attractive, they also taste delicious....that salted egg yolk, wow!
Love it on their chips, love it on their chicken.
The salmon was cooked to perfection and the condiments it came with made beautiful music together!
Can't wait for my next Omi fix!
SoloDiner PMJ
Given the high rating and positive feedback on Zomato, I decided to try Omi out a few week back. I had the signature wagyu which I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected. I quite like the rice itself and the other compliments. However I felt the sauce was way too salty for my taste, making the beef itself not enjoyable. It is definitely a let down for me. My colleague tried the same dish the other day. She also found the sauce was a bit salty.
I am keen to come back and try the other dishes though.
Levina
Affordable yet still very delicious. They use Good quality ingredients, unlike typical fast food chains. The wagyu is very very tender and well-seasoned. Overall, a very pleasant dining experience.
Ian Teh
The karage was nice but the Udon broth was horrible. Sickly sweet, i thought I was eating a desert dish except it would've been a weird desert. The karage was supposed to be a salted egg coated thing but it barely registered. Pretty ordinary. And given it was in a food court, was over priced
MissCat
I like anything with salted eggs, can’t resist it. Salted egg fries is a good idea! Too bad that the fries not too crispy and it gets soggy after a while...

Melb Foodie
Amazing food. The salted egg taste is mild. May make it more strong. I want to try for the matcha mile crepe cake but it’s sold out, may try it next time.
Bun's Food Diaries
Food was surprisingly good for a food court. The meat with black truffle wagyu bowl was so flavoursome and delicious! The meat with the other bowl we tried (I think it was the sambal wagyu) was better if you preferred chilli. The fries were crispy and well done. Really enjoyed the creme brulee too, very creamy and smooth.

Have been wanting to try this place in The Glen for a while now. And finally got a chance last Wednesday. I ordered the black truffle wagyu while my boyfriend had the signature wagyu. Both were nice dishes and I figured the only difference between black truffle wagyu and signature wagyu was the black truffle sauce. Not bad lunch place :)
Tina
My partner and I ordered the Signature Wagyu, Salted Egg Fries, Houjicha Creme Brulee, Salted Egg Soft Shell Crab, and Miso Soup. My partner enjoyed his Signature Wagyu as it was well seasoned and flavoursome, I really liked my Salted Egg Soft Shell Crab as every element in the dish complemented each other nicely, and we loved OMI's Salted Egg Fries! Would definitely recommend and return.

This location had really good reviews and I decided to give this place a shot with my family for lunch. I was looking for a place with affordable good quality wagyu and Omi did not disappoint. However, don’t come here expecting A5 grade wagyu—this is budget-friendly beef which can be enjoyed on a weekly basis. My only hope was that the beef would have more marbling (You couldn’t really hope for too much with such an affordable bowl) All the ingredients were well prepared—the salmon was absolutely divine, the onsen egg was perfectly cooked and all the flavours were on point. The truffle fries had just the right amount of truffle, considering I’m not a huge fan of truffle, I really enjoyed them! They were busy on the day I went but their service was still impeccable and the food came out pretty fast. I can’t wait to come back next time and try their karaage chicken and soft shell crab bowls and their creme brulees, but I would definitely recommend the salmon (still thinking about how perfectly cooked it was!)
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
😱Lizzie’s first impression: So sad they closed in Chaddy but their food hasn’t changed.

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: Their rice and seasoning of the wagyu is so addictive - I could literally have two bowls of it. The fried chicken dish is also just as amazing. You can’t come to Omi without ordering the fries - the truffle fries are so crispy and delicious!

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: its too far from me!! They need another store in the city.

🥇Lizzie rates overall:

Omi is located in the new food court and serves rice bowls. Friendly service and the food is made on the spot.

Ther truffle fries are amazing with a robust smell of truffle oil that infused in the chips and topped with shaved cheese.

The salted egg chicken karaage was disappointing. Instead of the salted egg being topped on the chicken, it was put on the seasoned rice, hence, the chicken tasted plain. The waygu was great on the other hand. Torch fired waygu is seared and tender.

The yuzu creme brulee was okay. Not in the best looking packaging but the yuzu was distinct and flavoursome. Only let down wss the sugar on top was burnt that it made the dessert go bitter.

Very good. Long queue yet the queue clears up pretty quick. We had wagyu bowl, truffle wagyu bowl, truffle fries, hojicha creme brulee and miso soup. Can give a miss to truffle fries and miso soup, actually wagyu bowl too. Reason being that truffle wagyu was much better than the usual bowl. I think it was a dollar more for that but the flavour was fantastic. Truffle fries was too dry for my liking- as in the fries was skinny and I felt it was deep fried too much. Prefer those to have some potato inside like maccas or kfc. Steak fries will be too much tho. Not much truffle flavour too. I tried the salted egg one at the other outlet and I felt that it tasted better. Not the texture of fries but the flavour of the salted egg. It was more intense. Miso soup was normal but the Creme brulee was creamy and rich.

Conveniently located in the glen food court, omi is my go to Friday dinner. Good value and filling meal with options like salmon, soft shell crab or chicken.

Last week's impromptu catch up brought me to Omi, conveniently located in the newly refurbished Glen shopping centre food court. The food court would usually be packed full on the weekends and having arrived just after the lunch period, we did not have to wait long before we could grab a bite. Black truffle wagyu - so many different variations to choose from be it with mentaiko, sambal or without any fancy dressing. The truffle version won us over and it was creamy and very indulgent. Wagyu pieces were well seared although I can't really tell for sure if it is wagyu or not. Bed of rice had also been lightly seared and topped with furikake (Japanese rice seasoning) before being covered by the beef and sauce. Onsen egg added another touch of creaminess to the dish.

Any truffle fans will love their Black Truffles Wagyu Beef Bowl. I can smell the aroma from a distance away. This dish is a well rounded dish, complete with creaminess of the egg yolk, crunchiness from the pickled red radiah and the char from the well cooked beef. An Instagramable picture. Will definately return. I feel healthier eating this dish, simple and clean.
Mad Dawg
Ordered the chilli crab don, salted egg karaage and fries. The crab was not as crispy as it should have been. The salted egg flavoring was underwhelming. Definitely not having the kick that I am used to. The karaage itself was juicy.

Went there last Saturday and my wife ordered a salted egg salmon bowl using my credit card. I just noticed it has been charged twice. Asked my wife and she told me that she was told by the staff the first transaction didn't get through. Tried to contact them but no one picked up the phone. I hope it isn't something dodgy.

Hi, my partner and I came here on the weekend. We ordered the Sambal salty egg and salmon on rice, special wagyu and both was good. The salmon was perfectly cooked. Price was around $12-$14 per dish. If they had a large sized option, I would of definitely ordered that. Overall for foodcourt food, this place is definitely fresh and gourmet.
Brandan Chong
Here we have the Black Truffle Wagyu bowl and the Vegetarian Tofu bowl! Both were delicious, but the standout was definitely the wagyu as it was extremely tender and juicy.

The only thing I didn't understand was the fact that they advertised 'free truffle fries' for students with any main meal on Instagram if you present your student card. But upon ordering and asking the kind staff whether they were aware of the deal, they simply replied 'no'. So I assume there may have been a miscommunication.

Nonetheless, the food at Omi were delicious and I would still try them again!
Flying Forward
I was pretty disappointed to see Omi’s Chadstone branch close up (temporarily), shortly after opening.
Luckily though the team has opened a branch in Glen Waverley’s new, modern food court.

Omi offers premium Japanese-fusion rice bowls, using quality Australian ingredients and suppliers.
The basic bowl is common throughout the menu – a bed of Japanese Koshihikari rice topped with furikake seasoning (providing a roasted seaweed & smokey flavour from bonito), soft onsen egg (with perfectly oozy yolk), edamame beans, and red pickled radish.

Salmon Mentaiko – it’s given the blowtorch treatment, and is actually well cooked – juicy and not dry. It flakes away pretty easily and the salmon-flavour is pretty mild, but you also get a bit of that flame-grill flavour as well. The mentaiko (salted roe) isn’t common, or well known as an ingredient but it’s growing in popularity. It’s mildly salty, seafoody, pungent, and it’s incorporated into mayo, so the flavour is approachable for the uninitiated.

Omi is an excellent concept and is perfect for the modern Australian diner – it’s fusion, instagrammable, relatively healthy, celebrates Australian produce and also importantly at an accessible price point.
Hungry Koala
Surprising good and lived up to the hype. The black truffle wagyu bowl was my favourite, it had a good smoky flavour and a good amount of wagyu. I would go back :)
Hangry Horace
We ordered the black truffle wagyu, salmon with mentaiko and salted egg fries. I thoroughly enjoyed the dishes as they were full of flavour and sizeable. The beef and salmon were well cooked too. The salted egg fries were also quite good. We decided to order the genmaicha creme brulee for dessert and it did not disappoint.
Foodie
Ordered the Spicy Sambal Karaage Chicken and sadly it wasn’t to my liking. I felt that the sambal was a little too overpowering and all I could taste on that dish was just the sambal. Even the pickles could not really cut through the strong flavour of the sambal and I got a little tired of it halfway through :( loved the richness of the onsen egg though!
Marina Ung
Did a takeaway today and got the spicy sambal chicken and truffle fries! The chicken wasn’t as crispy and inside was still very pink. The truffle fries weren’t of quality for the price of nearly $7. Unfortunately this place wasn’t as good as it seemed to be :(
Streaky Eats
Heard about the hype, went to try it out. Got the Spicy Sambal Karaage Chicken (unusual thing to get from a Japanese place, but was surprisingly one of the better options compared to what my friends got).

I had very high hopes for the Salted Egg Fries but it was quite a disappointment. It tasted like milk more than anything, I've had many salted egg dishes in Malaysia and this one just tasted off and weird, none of us could finish it.
Anh Nguyen
Hmmm really disappointing.

The beef was dry and didnt taste like anything. The egg was cold, or something was cold.
The truffle flavor was good, but got lost when we mixed everything through.
Fries had no truffle flavor whatsoever.
Far too much rice.
Lynne Nguyen
Surprisingly good for food court food. Would give it a 3.5 if I could but 3 just wouldn't do it justice. Salted egg yolk fries are a must, flavour was amazing and almost had a taste of cheese without the sickening feeling. We had the signature wagyu and it just melted in our mouths.
Good Food Good Mood
I was invited down to the new Omi branch at the newly launched food court in The Glen. This is a brand new food court unlike those you have known before and Omi redefines food court fare. I am well acquainted with their delicious offerings from my previous visit to their original chadstone store and I’m pleased to announce its as delicious as ever.
I am beyond obsessed with their salted egg fries. They were the first I’d ever tried and what a pleasant discovery. Those I have tried elsewhere since have been a bitter disappointment so these are a must.
I also opted for the flavoursome wagyu bowl and my husband had the salmon (except I ate most of it because it was sooo perfectly cooked and flaking apart). They both come with a perfect onsen egg- so unbelievably yummy and something quite different and unique. You can’t get this style of food at such premium quality anywhere else in Australia

OMI has recently moved from Chadstone to the newly re-vamped Glen Shopping Centre. It is at home in the new food court, with neighbours such as Healthy Habits, Huxtaburger, Schnitz & Sushi Jiro. We visited at lunch time and the line was massive (an indication of its popularity). They took orders quite quickly which was good, but the wait for the actual food was about 20 minutes. We ordered the Signature Wagyu Don, the Salted Egg Karaage Chicken, the Truffle Fries & the Houjicha crème brûlée.

Both of the rice bowl dishes had fluffy rice, a soft cooked egg, spring onion, picked radish and edamame beans. The wagyu beef was flame grilled right in front of your eyes, using a blowtorch and the chicken was fried in the kitchen. The truffle fries, which I thought was going to have an overwhelming flavour, were sprinkled with grated truffle cheese and tasted delicious. The Houjicha crème brûlée had a slight coffee flavour and was a wonderful way to finish the meal.

For what is effectively food court food, OMI are producing high quality Japanese cuisine for a very affordable price. If you are willing to wait and dine in, I can highly recommend visiting next time you’re in the Glen.
Willtravelforfood17
We ordered the truffle fries, salted egg karaage bowl and the mentaiko beef bowl. The truffle fries were soggy unfortunately and the truffle taste was very subtle. I would have preferred a stronger truffle taste. The salted egg karaage was well fried: crispy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. It was well seasoned too. The eggs were really well poached and were nice and runny. The rice was on the wetter side - I didn’t mind it because there was no sauce/gravy in the bowl and it was a little dry, but my partner did not like it. The mentaiko in the beef bowl tasted like it was from a tube - and although the beef was tender, it was too sweet from the marinade. If you have such good quality meat like wagyu, why would you cover it’s natural taste in marinade? Food is very well presented though.

Delicious and generous portions at reasonable prices. Have been here twice already and always good. Truffle fries definitely recommended. I like that they give you buzzers to alert when your order is ready so that we could find a seat and not stand around waiting for our orders while blocking traffic. Efficient system and friendly service.

Came in after watching their staff sear some meat which looked great, so we decided to give it a go. I got the truffle fries, was good, crispy, warm and well seasoned, which are what fries should be. Bf did point out that the food came out pretty quickly, almost immediately after sitting down, his was a chicken and rice meal (salted egg chicken don). Chicken didn’t taste that great.
Feeding My Tummy
I walked past and seen that the chef was cooking the food with a portable flame which caught the attention to my eye. We proceeded and decided to have a karaage chicken with rice and egg.

Within 3-5 minutes of ordering and sitting down the food was ready, which is a worrying sign as rice, and well karaage chicken being cooked should take a little longer than the time it was ready. The chicken was definitely cooked before we arrived to the restaurant and also felt the rice was done in a huge rice maker and not prepared fresh. Perhaps a fried rice would be more appealing. We were the only customers as well. So it definitely wasn’t busy. I would not go here again.

Espy Eats
I was so looking forward to tonight’s invite to try the new Omi store at The Glen, having tasted this quality store at their flagship Chadstone store late last year. They didn’t disappoint. Having tried the signature wagyu and salmon previously we opted for the black truffle wagyu and the Salmon with Mentaiko sauce. Both of these dishes were blow torch flamed and came with the 63 degree egg and plenty of flavour. The black truffle sauce was not subtle so if you aren’t fully committed to the truffle flavour go with something else. If , like me, you love truffle you will love this dish. Salted eggs fries were good (nice and salty) and our cream brûlée dessert the non matcha one was also blowtorched and absolutely delightful. This omi fit out was impressive and like Chadstone the flaming blow torch cooking clearly on display ... tonight this attracted quite the audience.

Thanks so much for having us.
