☆彡 Had lunch here - reminds me of Calia but more affordable and in food court - which has lots of (neat/clean) seating in the Glen. Ordered: aburi salmon rice bowl, with teriyaki sauce ($16.9) and soft-shell crab rice bowl ($16.9) and salted egg fries
☆ The good:
- i actually loved the salted egg fries, the salted egg flavour was relatively strong and a really good twist to regular fries. Generous in quantity
- aburi salmon was tasty as expected; soft shell crab was massive and tasty
- service is quick and efficient
☆ Not so good:
- as with some rice bowls, after finishing salmon/crab you are left with a huge portion of rice :(
☆彡 Overall, am definitely returning to the more affordable yet quality Jap food :) it does not even feel like we are in a food court
OMI is a new addition in The Glen that is absolutely worth trying. OMI offers different types of bowls ranging from their famous Wagyu beef, soft shell crab and even more. They offer a lot of different sauces and their salted egg sauce is a definite must try. The portion of Wagyu in the Ultimate Wagyu bowl was lacking value for the price vs amount of meat. Despite this, the soft shell crab bowl was extremely good value.
Their crêpe cakes of the day however are absolutely divine and a great way to finish the meal.
OMI is inside the glen in the food court area. It's an open area and you can actually see them preparing your meal. I got the teriyaki salmon and my husband got the curry karrage chicken. We also got spicy mayo fries. Everything was delicious and great flavours. Definitely recommend for a quick meal.
We were so excited to be invited to OMI since we have been eyeing on this place for quite awhile. OMI Glen Waverley is located in the food court in the ground floor and it is so easy to find as you enter the food court area – just find the OMI light signage. OMI is well known for its simple on-rice dish with various proteins to choose from their speciality Wagyu Beef, Soft Shell Crab, Kaarage Chicken, Fish to vegetarian one that you can paired with lots of sauces that will confuse you because they are all delicious.
Yay: Wagyu Beef with black truffle, Salted Egg Crab, Matcha Layer Cakes
Nay: Truffle Fries was a tad too salty
OMG OMI 🤤
PROS
Great vibe, exciting menu with rice bowls and soups and a healthy variety of snacks. Tried the salted egg fries, don bowl with tempura fish with mentaiko sauce option, udon in soup with a soft egg and a side of grilled salmon with the optioned teriyaki sauce. Multiple sauce options for the dishes, you can customise your order (including veg optioned udon soup) and great service. Loved it!
CONS
Busy area, grab a good table first (in all fairness, was there during a peak period)
FYI
it's located on the ground floor food court area. So everyone can order from different restaurants 😁😁
Wow, how impressive is the new food court at The Glen?? Even among so many high quality vendors Omi stands out with their signature hand torched dishes that you can watch from behind the glass counter.
We came to try some of their new winter sauces and were blown away by how delicious everything was! We tried the wagyu don (large) with black pepper sauce, chicken karaage with wasabi mayo, fries with spicy mayo, yuzu creme brûlée and green tea crepe cake. The wagyu with soft boiled egg was amazing and really good value for the quality and size, I would definitely get this again! The black pepper sauce really packed a punch and was very heavy on the pepper which I liked, but could be overpowering for some. The karaage was perfectly crunchy and the wasabi mayo was probably my favourite sauce overall. Both desserts were amazing and I was pleasantly surprised when the brûlée had a clear and crisp ‘crack’. Loved that the crepe cake came with sauce and it was so lovely and light in texture.
Definitely recommend Omi for an A+ foodcourt dining experience!
We came to Omi to try their new sauce menu and absolutely loved it !
The curry sauce was extremely flavoursome and we loved it with the udon noodles soup!
The truffle sauce ( not new) paired with the pork ( new) was a winner - so much flavour with extremely tender pork
Of course we had to get the salted egg fries- one of the best salted egg fries in Melbourne !
For a food court meal Omi has never failed to impress
Thanks for having us
Absolutely fantastic! I’ve seen this place a few times but I’ve never thought to try it until now. It’s a lovely venue and boy does it smell amazing! The fried chicken with wasabi sauce was sooo delicious on the rice. The Wagyu with pepper tasted amazing! I can’t even describe it. We also had the fries with their mayo and they were good! I’d like to try the truffle next time. Then omg, you need to get the matcha layer cake, freaking hell, it was incredible! And the creme brûlée was sooo tasty! Would recommend you check this place out!
Such a long line and Why am I not surprised? OMI is OMG amazing! There menu for starters is so hard to pick from because there are so many delicious options. Every thing comes in a bowl. Great sauces and great flavours! I can't wait to go back... **Disclaimer: although the restaurant has generously invited me to their restaurant this review is still based on my genuine opinion.
OMI this is so yummy 😍. We had the Wagyu beef bowl, it was full of flavour and the beef was cooked via blow torch 🔥. Great snack or meal and located at various stores across Melbourne
Great little place for some udon noodle soup. Food was great and the service was great as well.
Overall good experience. The food comes out looking very much like the pictures. Truffle fries were nice and truffley. We had salted egg soft shell crab udon noodles. Crab was nicely done and salted egg sauce was good. Soup a tad on the sweet side. Also had teriyaki chicken rice. Chicken was tasty but also too sweet and rice was a bit underdone and mushy. Probably would still go back there another time.
Nic solace that serves good karaage chicken. We had the salter egg karage chicken which was pretty good and was served with udon noodles.
The place has ample seating in the common areas that are near this outlet on the same floor. The place does get crazy busy and then the service gets affected but it isn’t that bad. The food is always a served hot and that’s what matters when you want a quick lunch.
Bloody good stuff to be had here. Everything taste good with salted egg on top. Affordable price with a well sized serving. And with everywhere else charging you extra for additional sauce, OMI doesn't.
Very yummy black truffle source!! The soup with udon is good. Love it. The pork scotch is good. Quantity not very large but enough for asian.
Worth the wait, very tasty and filling!!!
Although it was a bit hard to find and the line to order our food was long, plus the preparation time, it was worth waiting. Beautifully presented, both the karage and wagyu were delicious. The fries were extra crunchy and to top it we had a green tea cream brulee, the green tea flavour wasn't too strong so people that don't like matcha or green tea flavours should try it.
