Dragon Hot Pot is a unique dining experience. They have an amazing selection of soup bases and a variety of ingredients which you can pick yourself!! The quality of the ingredients is excellent! They have also adapted very well to COVID-19 restrictions and now offer DIY kits delivered straight to your door! Customer service is excellent, just a phone call away for any questions. I ordered online and was able to enjoy the meal (tastes just like at the restaurant) in the comfort of my own home.

This will always be my go to hotpot place. Love how you can customize the soup base and ingredients. Some of my favourites are their golden cheesy balls (glutinous rice inside with a liquid cheese centre!) and sweet potato noodles which are nice and chewy. My favourite soup base is their hot and sour malatang (choose fire hot or dragon hot level to turn up the heat 🔥)

Signature Ma La Tang (Hot Fire) with an assortment of seafood, greens and tofu.

Firstly, the soup base is deliciously still creamy even at spicier levels, however I do want to say that “hot fire” tasted very mild - if you are used to Asian cuisine, I would just go for the spiciest dragon hot, their soup base isn’t very numbing.

Unfortunately, they did give me the wrong base at first (mild instead of hot fire), service is average paced, prices are comparable at $3.30/100g. Selection of foods is diverse, but I was disappointed there was no bokchoy at 12pm, while operating at moderate busy-ness. I would definitely recommend getting a heap of Chinese cabbage, okra and Chinese spinach to get the most of the broth. Fish was standard, anything prawn was great, scallops were very mild in flavour, frozen tofu probably isn’t the best option to add any flavour (but that’s to be expected).

The area is also clean and the rice noodles were brilliant!

The hot pot craze continues unabated. Having been to the Dragon Hot Pot in Boxhill, we visited the Glen Waverley branch with some excitement. I was very disappointed that there was no condiment station here, which was a highlight for me at the other branch. Each table here had a container of chilli oil and that was it. No fresh garlic, no fresh coriander or spring onions.

Having said that though, their broths were all amazing. We had the spicy malatang, the collagen broth and the pickled mustard broth. Everything was flavoursome and all the ingredients we picked were cooked well. The pickled mustard broth was quite unique - this had a nice balance of saltiness and sourness.

Our bowls took awhile to arrive and the place was quite small so be prepared to literally rub shoulders and elbows with strangers.

The key to good hotpot is the broth and they have definitely nailed it when it comes to the broth. They have different broth options and you can go for the less spicy broths if you’re not a fan of spicy

Love the concept of being able to choose what you want and you get to pick your own ingredients and they weigh them accordingly.

I love how their ingredients are very fresh and they do get quite busy

Dragon Hot Pot has made a name for themselves, opening more and more shops around Melbourne so it’s no surprise when they decide to embrace veganism and release a vegan Ma La Tang soup base! So if you’ve never been here before, just walk in, get a table and then pick up a pot and put whatever the hell you want in the pot. From meat to seafood to fishcake and heaps of veggies, there’s something for everyone. Once you’ve got all your ingredients, shuffle over to the counter so they can weigh your pot and it’s $3.38 per 100g and the minimum weight you need is 400g. So you’ve guessed it, the more you put in your pot, the more you gotta pay.

Good to see Dragon Hot Pot has branched out into the suburbs, with Glenny being the only malatang joint (for now).

If you've been to the other branches, you know the drill. Good thing about this branch is that they also offer other styles like collagen broth (non spicy), pickled mustard, hot and sour, and a stir fry.

This time I've gone for a stir fry version. A basic mix of onions, garlic chives, garlic is added to your selected ingredients and stir fried together.

Key flavours you get from the stir fry is garlic, cumin seeds, sichuan pepper and obviously the dry firey chilli. Awesome flavours albeit a tad on the salty side, but I love it.

I knew it is not worth the money, I just couldn't stop getting more and more into my pot. I would recommend go for spicy and peppey. And don't go if your are starving unless you can control yourself, lol

Absolutely loved it... bit of a unique experience filling a bowl full of raw ingredients... but the Mal tang broth was superb... we chose hot to be safe but it wasnt hot at all so go fire hot or dragon hot if you like things spicy...
was very crowded and had a queue... pricing is actually reasonable when you consider what you are getting...

@bite_me_melbourne and I decided to pop our hotpot cherry and see what all the fuss was about 🍒 i naturally assumed he knew what he was doing, for no other reason than the obvious 😅 (please do have a guess 😂) to my surprise we were both in the same boat! How did we proceed? 🤔 you guessed it! The old "just fill it up to the top with whatever you want" method! 🤗 fried chicken? Sure! Prawns? Do it! Cheese Sticks? Hell yeah! 🙌🏽 long story short, we expected one large bowl to share with all of our ingredients, only for them to bring out two GIANT bowls 😅 lets just say we hotpot till we dropped 🥘 definitely learned our lesson for next time! But hey, thats what wandering is all about right? 😉 p.s i don't actually think we've learnt our lesson and will probably just end up doing the same again next time 😂 EBS syndrome for life! 🙌🏽
.
☑ 8/10! I can only review the broth and the quality of available ingredients because at the end of the day, you put in what you want 😁
.
🔥 HIT - I loved the broth! 😍 packed with deep spicy flavour it compliments almost any of the ingredients you put it. I particularly loved the broth with the noodles and sliced pork 🐷 the pork adds a really tasty fatty flavour to the broth! 👌🏽 the cheese sticks were also a massive hit for me! 🧀 along with the crab meat patties 🦀
.
💨 MISS - these misses could be because im not an expert on how it works, so for the average joe i would stay away from the cuttlefish and octopus 🦑 these were rubbery and overcooked simply because everything cooks for the same time at the same temperature. I'd stick with meats that normally don't have specific cooking requirements ie. Chicken etc.
.
💡 TIP - its tough, but try not to put whatever you see in the pot and don't overfill 😅 you'd rather a few ingredients that work amazing than 20 that don't 😁

I must admit, I never had the intention of ever trying this place but was coerced by a few friends to give it a go. After trying it I can’t help but crave for more. Yes the food is frozen. Yes it is self service. But who cares? The broth is damn good along with the large selection of toppings; the making for a delectable bowl of noodles. If you dare to be more adventurous by all means get the spicy variant, but I found mild to be perfect for myself. Definitely will be back and recommend this place for all hot pot lovers!

I was finally able to head down to dragon hot pot and it did not disappoint at all. The ability to choose your foods and how much is obviously lots of fun and a very nice feature.
The ma la tang soup base is great (I got the spicy) and was such a nice level of spice.
The price is also very affordable. 100% will be back.

I don’t normally enjoy Chinese cuisines but I had to be back here again and again. I love the soup base here. The soup is very addictive spicy flavour might have to be careful. The space may be not enough big for some people and normally the queue is long to get in but still worth visiting here.

It took me so long to try this hot pot place because I was a sceptic until I had a try on the weekend and I will definitely come back due to few good reasons. Firstly, there are heaps of proteins, carbs and veggies to choose from and they're all tasty! Secondly, there are few broth options and I enjoyed the non spicy one. Finally, it's just a good classic hot pot served in a bowl.

N.B. the line can get insanely long, so keep that in mind when visiting.

Great value for money and can’t go wrong with the flavours, after all, it is your decision on what you want. We went a little overboard with one hotpot each and tried basic and spicy. Spicy is definitely that so you have been warned! Nothing we couldn’t handle though

Delicious hotpot at Glen Waverley. Flavour is powerful, and there’s absolutely nothing to complain about regarding the taste. This place always gets very busy, especially on the weekends. Need to wait for at least 15-20 minutes outside to get a table. Also, it’s easy to pay a lot if you aren’t careful with the weight that you’re putting in your hotpot

This place is so busy so there is a bit of a wait. i ordered the signature ‘hot’ and found it the perfect level of spice. My husband had the collagen broth which was pretty bland. The food can add up very quickly. Make sure to choose your items wisely and don’t get too excited at the beginning. Overall an enjoyable meal.

Here you're handed a pot and some tongs and given the freedom to self-select your own hot pot ingredients. The novelty of the idea is attractive but behind that, the soup bases and wide slection of ingredients is great. I did find that I would have liked a better selection of veges and proteins but if you like fish balls or tofu balls etc. you'll love this place.

Always fulfills my hotpot cravings without having to stuff myself at all you can eat hotpot places. I’m not too into spicy food so I go for the bone broth option and it’s so flavourful ! It does contains peanuts so be aware all my peanut allergy friends ! My favourite vegetable is Chinese cabbage it’s always a favourite at hot pot for me :) I will share with a friend because the servings are so big after we’ve picked everything we want to put in. I usually spend $25-30 for one bowl that serves 2

Having been to other branches, we knew we would enjoy our meal a Dragon Hotpot. First you get a massive bowl, where you can pick your own ingredients to be prepared for you in the kitchen. You then pay by the weight, the price is pretty reasonable as well. We went for the mild option and it wasn't too spicy, just enough to enjoy our meal.

Went to this place late on a Fri night and it was packed! Grab a pot, grab all the food you want - and they have a great selection of different meats and balls and veggies etc. choose the soup base you want and they cook it up for you. I chose the mild spicy soup - it was light and a little creamy and a little spicy. I liked it. I also mixed 3 different types of noodles together. The price goes by weight so you may be getting more value from the wagyu beef slices and the seafood rather than the frozen fish balls. On the other hand it kinda feels like you can cook it at home on your own with maggi noodles and frozen fish balls. I wouldn’t mind going back for the soup base though.

Love how you get to physical pick up all the ingredients to be in your dish straight from the baskets, and that it's charged based on weight. Very affordable. The signature ma la tang was delicious, and I got the medium spice level. The beef, pork and lamb meats were delicious as were the fish balls, particularly the cheese and the fish roe ones. You can't go wrong with the dish when you build it yourself, I will definitely return when I feel like hot pot.

This hot pot place is very popular amongst teenagers or families to get together and share a big warm cozy bowl of hotpot, which stays hot for a long period of time, full of sweet salty and umami flavours. I got the mild soup base, which was slightly spicy but was delicious to eat. The meat, noodles, vegetables and toppings are all of your own choice which makes it fun and adventurous. I recommend the udon and clear flat noodles, as well as the cheese balls which are amazing. My new favourite place to eat, will be coming back here more often or in the city!

THE GOOD
The hot pot here is 💯
You get to pick your own ingredients and choose if you want it in the soup (hotpot) base or stir fry’d. They have different levels of spice so it can suit to everyone

You can also fill up one bowl with heaps of stuff and share it between two - three people :)

MEDIOCRE
You can get carried away picking the ingredients and the price adds up! These bowls are big so you don’t actually need to put in heaps after adding your noodles. I’ve spent $28 on a bowl before and didn’t come close to finishing it

The place is small and if you don’t get a good table you can find yourself sitting with a lot of people around you. It can become very busy around dinner time and I have even waited 20 mins for a table once, but in the pursuit of authentic hotpot it was a small sacrifice

Very nice place to have some quick and yummy hotpot. The price will add up so it is not very cheap. However the bowl is huge and the broth is very nice (collagen broth, and pickled mustard broth). There is a good selection of different toppings which are refilled quite frequently. There is also option to have the meal dry or with soup. Personally I find the dry version a bit too salty for my liking, so I prefer my soup base. Also, be aware that the minimum weight is 400g!

The setup is so cute and how you self serve is soo cute as well I loved having the freedom of being able to choose what goes into my soup. They had a wideee range of things to choose from. Having a few noodle options was great. They also had a lot of weird fish balls that I’ve seen but was never brave enough to try so it was rlly convenient to be able to put 1 in to try for urself. There was also rice cakes which was surprising. I think there was only
4 soup options to choose from which was pretty disappointing because I wanted something spicy but not something oily like mala. The whole process of it was fun but the overall taste was okay. The more you eat the more bland and bored. I would only come here occasionally wouldn’t be my first option when I go glen tho

This is place is dangerous when you have hungry eyes! You take what you want to add to your pot/bowl, and pay $3.20 per 100g (minimum of 400g). There's a surcharge for eftpos under $25.

It comes out cooked within 5 minutes and is satisfyingly hot.
I went with a mild Ma La Tang broth with wagyu, lamb, fish, lobster, scallops, mixed seafood ball & cake varieties, lotus root, rice cakes, sweet potato slices, bak choy, spinach, coriander, enoki mushroom, homemade instant noodles & sweet potato noodles.

Initially I thought I was crazy for getting so much. In the middle I was in heaven cos it seemed like the bowl was never ending. By the end I was sad that there was nothing left and I wanted more despite being stuffed!

I'd definitely come back again and would try the Sichuan broth for a change.

I have been a regular at dragon hot pot for quite a while now because it is simply cheap & good! 😍 They charge $3.20/100g so if you know how much you can eat, you can be really strategic with it. Usually I end up spending about $12-16 pp & it is a really filling meal. 😋 I love that there is a wide variety of ingredients to choose from and the different spicy levels. 🌶 What is even better is that they have introduced some other flavours for their soups lately! I have tried all the spicy levels for their signature mala broth and definitely think that level 1/2 is the way to go! Even though my spice tolerane is quite high, the spice from level 3/4 is so overpowering that you cannot fully enjoy your meal. Of course, this may vary from person to person. They have the stir fry version as well but I am definitely more of a fan of the soupy one. I am keen to try their collagen broth on my next visit! 🤩 This has been such a staple for me especially because of the winter season! ❄️

With Melbourne’s winter weather in full force, finding a wholesome and hot meal is on everyone’s hit list these days. I decided to try this place out, after a friends recommendation. Upon arrival, it’s clear to see that most seated patrons chose a soup based bowl (there is an option for a stir fry instead). Choosing the items to add to your bowl was quite an overwhelming as there is a lot you can choose from. After the pot is filled, you pay up at the front and choose your spice levels depending on your liking and whether or not you want it soup based or stir-fried. The soup is very flavourful and definitely hits the spot on a cold winter night. Overall it was a good experience, however the problem is over-ordering ! You just want to try a bit of everything and realise you won’t be able to finish it all..

Something different in concept that you have to choose the ingredients what you really want in pot, went to counter and they weigh for you and pay and ask if you want in soup or stir fry and the only downside is you have to waiting a while if you come in group.
We waiting for 30 minutes...but it’s worthwhile.
We will comeback...try others ingredients

Had a late shift from work and had not yet eaten, at around midnight i was walking around glen seeing what was opened. Not a fan of hot pot but i actually went back again 2 days later because I I really enjoyed their soup base (non spicy at all). Also tasted a new japanese omelette thing that blew my mind. The last time I’ve been to a hot pot where you select your own ingredients was last year and I quite like this concept because it gives you the freedom to choose what you would like to eat.
In terms of the food quality, I thought it was alright . However , I found their hot pot soup to be a little spicy despite ordering mild. Overall a nice experience :)

If you’re a small eater but enjoys buffet like me, you would find delight at Dragon Hotpot.

First, you start off by grabbing a metal pot and filling it with ingredients that you fancy. There are many ingredients for you to choose including the meat section (lamb, beef, chicken etc), the MISC section (all types of fish balls and meat balls, noodles, quail eggs etc) and the veggies section (kelp, vegetarian items, bamboo shoots etc). I highly recommend trying the mushroom pork ball and fibrous thread!

My partner and I were walking around Kingsway and decided to try a new place.

We hadn’t experienced this exact concept - you grab a (very large) bowl and start putting various things in it - meatballs, mushrooms, tofu, seafood, vegetables... You then put it on the scales and pay $3.20/100g (we both paid around $23 per dish) and then you decide if you want your meal as a soup or a stirfry. Finally, you choose how hot you want your meal and you pay.

Our souls arrived within 5-6 minutes and were massive.

Man, this was one tasty soup!! And I had perfectly what I wanted in it! Such a great experience!!

Definitely can’t wait to go back and try it as a stirfry!

Definitely recommended!!

Best hot pot in town for sure. Excellent choice of meats, seafood, tofu, mushrooms, Asian vegetables, they have it all. My personal preference is the stir fry option, but the Signature soup seems to be the most popular and is delicious. Spicy for sure but in a good way, delicious and very satisfying.

This is a popular and busy location. Great selection of fresh ingredients and proteins, quite a wide variety too. The signature malatang soup base is delicious and the fiery hot heat level lives up to its name. The collagen bone broth is flavoursome too. Service is perfunctory but nothing more can be expected in a place like this. There's a small choice of beverages but they do have bottled beers.

I like the one at Kingsway (Glen Waverley area), instead of the one at Burwood Hwy. The one at Kingsway does their service fast, even for takeaways; and they also made the 'Dragon Hot' really hot, as what it should be. Whilst the one at Burwood Hwy does their service very slow. Looked like they did put the dine in as their priority, since the people who did put their orders after me for the dine in got their food before me, whilst I had to wait for almost an hour to get my takeaway ready. Ridiculous! I'm not impressed with the one at Burwood Hwy.

Tasty food. Noticed some inconsistency in the depth of flavour of the broth. I believe the amount of paste they mix varies each time I go there. Found some items like the yam pieces a bit raw. Could have been booked for a bit more. Nevertheless, I love how you can pick whichever food you want to taste. A good variety of selection and I would say fair price as well. Food is prepared soon and fresh.
